Utilizing hydrophone arrays for detecting underwater acoustic communication (UWAC) signals leverages spatial information to enhance detection efficiency and expand the perceptual range. This study redefines the task of UWAC signal detection as an object detection problem within the frequency–azimuth (FRAZ) spectrum. Employing Faster R-CNN as a signal detector, the proposed method facilitates the joint prediction of UWAC signals, including estimates of the number of sources, modulation type, frequency band, and direction of arrival (DOA). The proposed method extracts precise frequency and DOA features of the signals without requiring prior knowledge of the number of signals or frequency bands. Instead, it extracts these features jointly during training and applies them to perform joint predictions during testing. Numerical studies demonstrate that the proposed method consistently outperforms existing techniques across all signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), particularly excelling in low SNRs. It achieves a detection F1 score of 0.96 at an SNR of −15 dB. We further verified its performance under varying modulation types, numbers of sources, grating lobe interference, strong signal interference, and array structure parameters. Furthermore, the practicality and robustness of our approach were evaluated in lake-based UWAC experiments, and the model trained solely on simulated signals performed competitively in the trials. Mirroring public ideologies and value systems in legislative discourse, stance not only functions as a powerful instrument for legislators to balance legal values and stakeholders' interests but also acts as a valuable reference for individuals to understand legislative texts. This study conducts a corpus-driven analysis of stance expressions in legislative discourse. Using three self-compiled corpora that incorporate data protection laws from the United States, the European Union, and China, we apply Hyland's stance model to contrastively analyse evidence of hedging, boosting, self-mention, and attitude markers across these jurisdictions and eventually propose a specialised research model of stance in law. This study unveils the nature of modesty and sufficient discursive space of data protection laws, as well as legislative values and public ideologies conveyed by different jurisdictions within the broader socio-legal cultural context. Besides uncovering the legal constructiveness of data protection laws, the results also suggest that the overall representation of stance in data protection legislation aligns with its performance in legislative discourse, which showcases a legislative tendency to achieve an overtly neutral appearance through covert stance expressions. ObjectivesMethodsResultsDiscussionThe study aimed to explore whether TP could improve memory in the aged type 2 diabetic rat model by regulating microbiota-immune-synaptic plasticity axis.The experiment was divided into two parts. Firstly, to investigate the effects of TP on the physiopathology of the aged T2DM model rats, rats were randomly divided into the Normal control group, the aged group, the Aged T2DM model group, the TP 75, 150, 300 mg/kg groups, the 150 mg/kg Piracetam group and the 3 mg/kg Rosiglitazone group. Then, to further verify whether TP improved memory in aged T2DM rat model by regulating intestinal flora, the fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from the rats in the 300 mg/kg TP group into the rats in the aged T2DM model group was carried out. Effects on gut microbiota, colonic integrity (epithelial tight junction proteins), and endotoxemia (serum LPS) were examined, along with synaptic structure, synaptic plasticity-related structural proteins and inflammation signaling of the hippocampus in our study.Our results demonstrated that TP alleviated memory impairments in the aged T2DM rat model. The specific outcomes were as follows: TP 300 mg/kg corrected the gut dysbacteriosis, alleviated intestinal permeability reduction and peripheral/central inflammation, inhibited the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway. Meanwhile, TP improved the synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus of the aged T2DM model rats, whose expressions of SYN, PSD 95, NMDAR1 and GluR1 in hippocampus were significantly up-regulated. Surprisingly, rats of the FMT group displayed the same changes.TP improves the memory in aged T2DM rat model. The mechanism may be related to the alteration of gut flora, which can inhibit hippocampal TLR4/NF-κB signaling to attenuate neuroinflammation, then improve synaptic plasticity. The advancement of laser-induced graphene (LIG) technology has streamlined the fabrications of flexible graphene devices. However, the ultrafast kinetics triggered by laser irradiation generates intrinsic amorphous characteristics, leading to high resistivity and compromised performance in electronic devices. Healing graphene defects in specific patterns is technologically challenging by conventional methods. Herein, we report the rapid rectification of LIG's topological defects by flash Joule heating in milliseconds (referred to as F-LIG), whilst preserving its overall structure and porosity. The F-LIG exhibits a decreased ID/IG ratio from 0.84 – 0.33 and increased crystalline domain from Raman analysis, coupled with a 5-fold surge in conductivity. Pair distribution function and atomic-resolution imaging delineate a broader-range order of F-LIG with a shorter C-C bond of 1.425 Å. The improved crystallinity and conductivity of F-LIG with excellent flexibility enables its utilization in high-performance soft electronics and low-voltage disinfections. Notably, our F-LIG/polydimethylsiloxane strain sensor exhibits a gauge factor of 129.3 within 10% strain, which outperforms pristine LIG by 800%, showcasing significant potential for human-machine interfaces. This study employs a corpus-assisted critical discourse analysis to demystify the dominant patterns of representations around 5G in the Chinese and British press. Keyword analyses identify four thematic categories around the representation of 5G: the nature of 5G, social actors in 5G discourse, actions around 5G and timing in 5G discourse. Findings suggest that the Chinese press tends to use positive evaluative expressions to depict 5G as a trustworthy and beneficial issue and stress China's strong support for 5G development. In contrast, the British press prefers to frame 5G as a product of geopolitical rivalry and an issue with scientific uncertainties and controversies by repeatedly employing negative language patterns related to 5G risks and conspiracy theories. Besides, a subtle but varying "self versus other" schema is constructed by the two presses. The Chinese press is inclined to use positive predication strategies to construct a positive self-representation, whereas the British press tends to adopt negative predication strategies to portray China as an outgroup and meanwhile use scapegoating strategies to profile Britain as a positive self by using recurrent patterns denoting the pressure exerted on Britain by the United States. The rising global population and improved living standards have led to an alarming increase in non‐communicable diseases, notably cardiovascular and chronic respiratory diseases, posing a severe threat to human health. Wearable sensing devices, utilizing micro‐sensing technology for real‐time monitoring, have emerged as promising tools for disease prevention. Among various sensing platforms, graphene‐based sensors have shown exceptional performance in the field of micro‐sensing. Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) technology, a cost‐effective and facile method for graphene preparation, has gained particular attention. By converting polymer films directly into patterned graphene materials at ambient temperature and pressure, LIG offers a convenient and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional methods, opening up innovative possibilities for electronic device fabrication. Integrating LIG‐based sensors into health monitoring systems holds the potential to revolutionize health management. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the discovery of LIG, this work provides a comprehensive overview of LIG's evolution and the progress of LIG‐based sensors. Delving into the diverse sensing mechanisms of LIG‐based sensors, recent research advances in the domain of health monitoring are explored. Abstract Aging and obesity pose significant threats to public health and are major contributors to muscle atrophy. The trends in muscle fiber types under these conditions and the transcriptional differences between different muscle fiber types remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate distinct responses of fast/glycolytic fibers and slow/oxidative fibers to aging and obesity. We found that in muscles dominated by oxidative fibers, the proportion of oxidative fibers remains unchanged during aging and obesity. However, in muscles dominated by glycolytic fibers, despite the low content of oxidative fibers, a significant decrease in proportion of oxidative fibers was observed. Consistently, our study uncovered that during aging and obesity, fast/glycolytic fibers specifically increased the expression of genes associated with muscle atrophy and inflammation, including Dkk3, Ccl8, Cxcl10, Cxcl13, Fbxo32, Depp1, and Chac1, while slow/oxidative fibers exhibit elevated expression of antioxidant protein Nqo-1 and downregulation of Tfrc. Additionally, we noted substantial differences in the expression of calcium-related signaling pathways between fast/glycolytic fibers and slow/oxidative fibers in response to aging and obesity. Treatment with a calcium channel inhibitor thapsigargin significantly increased the abundance of oxidative fibers. Our study provides additional evidence to support the transcriptomic differences in muscle fiber types under pathophysiological conditions, thereby establishing a theoretical basis for modulating muscle fiber types in disease treatment.

Background: The newly released Asian Working Group for Cachexia (AWGC) criteria share similar diagnostic items with the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria. This study aims to compare the AWGC cachexia and GLIM malnutrition in patients with gastric cancer and investigate whether one diagnosis continues to be a prognostic factor in individuals diagnosed with the other condition., Methods: Data of patients who underwent radical gastrectomy for gastric adenocarcinoma were prospectively collected from 2013 to 2019. The AWGC and GLIM criteria were applied to diagnosis cachexia and malnutrition, respectively. Univariate and multivariate logistic and Cox regression were used to verify the effect of relevant factors on postoperative complications and overall survival., Results: A total of 1420 patients were included, among whom 174 (12.3 %) were diagnosed with AWGC-cachexia alone, 85 (6.0 %) were diagnosed with GLIM-malnutrition alone, and 324 (22.8 %) had both AWGC-cachexia and GLIM-malnutrition. Both AWGC-cachexia and GLIM-malnutrition were independent risk factors for complications and overall survival. When they coexisted, the odds ratios (OR) and hazard ratios (HR) tended to be higher. In the AWGC-cachexia subset, GLIM-malnutrition remained an independent risk factor (HR = 1.544, 95 % CI = 1.098-2.171, P = 0.012) for overall survival after the adjustment of confounding factors. Similarly, in the GLIM-malnutrition subset, AWGC-cachexia remained an independent risk factor for overall survival (HR = 1.697, 95 % CI = 1.087-2.650, P = 0.020). The three most common kinds of urologic malignancies are prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer, which typically cause substantial morbidity and mortality. Early detection and effective treatment are essential due to their high fatality rates. As a result, there is an urgent need for innovative research to improve the clinical management of patients with urologic cancers. A type of small noncoding RNAs of 22 nucleotides, microRNAs (miRNAs) are well-known for their important roles in a variety of developmental processes. Among these, microRNA-21 (miR-21) stands out as a commonly studied miRNA with implications in tumorigenesis and cancer development, particularly in urological tumors. Recent research has shed light on the dysregulation of miR-21 in urological tumors, offering insights into its potential as a prognostic, diagnostic, and therapeutic tool. In most types of erectile dysfunction, particularly in advanced stages, typical pathological features observed are reduced parenchymal cells coupled with increased tissue fibrosis. However, the current treatment methods have shown limited success in reversing these pathologic changes. Recent research has revealed that changes in autophagy levels, along with alterations in apoptosis and fibrosis-related proteins, are linked to the progression of erectile dysfunction, suggesting a significant association. Autophagy, known to significantly affect cell fate and tissue fibrosis, is currently being explored as a potential treatment modality for erectile dysfunction. However, these present studies are still in their nascent stage, and there are limited experimental data available. This review analyzes erectile dysfunction from a pathological perspective. It provides an in-depth overview of how autophagy is involved in the apoptotic processes of smooth muscle and endothelial cells and its role in the fibrotic processes occurring in the cavernosum. Urologic oncology is a significant public health concern on a global scale. Recent research indicates that long chain non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and autophagy play crucial roles in various cancers, including urologic malignancies. This article provides a summary of the latest research findings, suggesting that lncRNA-mediated autophagy could either suppress or promote tumors in prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers. The intricate network involving different lncRNAs, target genes, and mediated signaling pathways plays a crucial role in urological malignancies by modulating the autophagic process. Dysregulated expression of lncRNAs can disrupt autophagy, leading to tumorigenesis, progression, and enhanced resistance to therapy. The research history, hot spots and frontier trends of acupuncture and moxibustion for Alzheimer's disease (AD) were explored using knowledge graph technology. The articles on acupuncture and moxibustion for AD were searched from 6 databases, i.e. CNKI, VIP, Wanfang, SinoMed, Pubmed and Web of Science, from January 1st, 1993 to January 1st, 2023. Using CiteSpace6.2.R2 Advance and VOSviewer V1.6.19 softwares, the knowledge map was graphed and the visual analysis was performed. A total of 1 228 Chinese and 309 English articles were included. The high-frequency keywords were generally divided into the keywords of clinical diseases (AD, dementia), those of therapeutic methods (electroacupuncture, acupuncture-moxibustion and acupuncture) and those of mechanism study (β-amyloid, mice). Thirteen keyword clusters were formed among the articles of Chinese version, e.g. acupuncture-moxibustion, dementia, acupuncture and electroacupuncture; and 8 clusters were obtained among English articles, e.g. electroacupuncture, drug therapy and hippocampus. The high-frequency keywords of acupoints included Baihui (GV 20), Dazhui (GV 14), Yintang (GV 24 + ), Zusanli (ST 36), Fenglong (ST 40), etc. Six clusters of "acupuncture techniques → acupoints" were obtained for the treatment of AD with acupuncture and moxibustion. The therapeutic methods and modes of AD with acupuncture and moxibustion are constantly progressed, the development of clinical research tends to the evaluation of novel therapeutic mode and clinical effect, and the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion for the effect on AD are more deeply explored. Among the various therapeutic methods, acupuncture-moxibustion, acupuncture and electroacupuncture have been early predominant; while, many novel methods are gradually displayed later, such as music electroacupuncture and hydro-acupuncture. In recent 30 years, among Chinese and English articles for the studies of AD treated with acupuncture and moxibustion, the theme of them focuses on the two aspects, the observation of clinical effect and the mechanism research. It is found that the clinical therapeutic methods have been gradually improved and the mechanism exploration been deepened.

Background: RPT193 is an orally administered small molecule antagonist of the human C-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (CCR4) that inhibits the migration and downstream activation of T-helper Type 2 (Th2) cells. We investigated single- and multiple-ascending doses of RPT193 in healthy subjects, and multiple doses of RPT193 in subjects with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD)., Methods: This was a first-in-human randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 1a/1b monotherapy study (NCT04271514) to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and CCR4 surface receptor occupancy in eligible healthy subjects and subjects with moderate-to-severe AD. Clinical efficacy and skin biomarker effects of RPT193 monotherapy were assessed as exploratory endpoints in AD subjects., Results: In healthy (n = 72) and AD subjects (n = 31), once-daily RPT193 treatment was generally well tolerated, with no serious adverse events reported and all treatment-emergent adverse events reported as mild/moderate. In AD subjects, numerically greater improvements in clinical efficacy endpoints were observed with RPT193 monotherapy versus placebo up to the end of the treatment period (Day 29), with statistically significant improvement, compared to Day 29 and placebo, observed 2 weeks after the end of treatment (Day 43) on several endpoints (p < .05). Moreover, significant changes in the transcriptional profile were seen in skin biopsies of RPT193-treated versus placebo-treated subjects at Day 29, which were also significantly correlated with improvements in clinical efficacy measures., Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first clinical study with an oral CCR4 antagonist that showed clinical improvement coupled with modulation of the cutaneous transcriptomic profile in an inflammatory skin disease., (© 2023 The Authors. Background: The necessity of localization of pulmonary nodules lies in ensuring the ability to locate the nodule quickly and accurately during surgery, thereby improving the success rate of the operation. The accuracy and risk of preoperative localization of pulmonary nodules need further exploration. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the factors of accuracy and safety of computed tomography (CT)-guided localization of pulmonary nodules using a flexible wire hook positioner., Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional analysis, 281 patients with a single pulmonary nodule underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) following localization with a soft hook-wire guided by CT scan from January 2021 to July 2022 at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital. The patients underwent VATS to remove pulmonary nodules within 24 hours after localization. The demographic, pulmonary nodule, and technical factors were analyzed retrospectively. Univariate and multivariate analysis were used to analyze the identified factors that influence pulmonary nodule localization accuracy and complications., Results: Localization was successfully performed in 280 patients, with only 1 patient being excluded due to a displaced positioner and the hook wire failing to enter the lung parenchyma as a result of pneumothorax. Out of the total cases, 191 (68.2%) were accurately positioned in group G0, whereas 89 cases (31.7%) were inaccurately positioned in group G1. Hemorrhage and self-limited hemoptysis were observed in 64 patients (22.8%), whereas pneumothorax was observed in 84 patients (29.9%). There were no serious complications such as air embolism or death. The accuracy of localization was found to be influenced by both the depth of pulmonary nodules [odds ratio (OR) =22.610, 95% confidence interval (CI): 10.351-49.391, P=0.001] and the depth of the needle used (OR =0.322, 95% CI: 0.136-0.765, P=0.010). Additionally, postoperative hemorrhage was found to be affected by several important factors, including the diameter (P=0.036) and depth of the nodule (P=0.011), as well as the thickness of the chest wall (P=0.043) and the depth of the needle used (P=0.005)., Conclusions: The CT-guided flexible wire hook positioner has been found to be a safe and effective device for locating pulmonary nodules. Aldo-Keto Reductase Family 1 Member C3 (AKR1C3), also known as type 5 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (17β-HSD5) or prostaglandin F (PGF) synthase, functions as a pivotal enzyme in androgen biosynthesis. It catalyzes the conversion of weak androgens, estrone (a weak estrogen), and PGD2 into potent androgens (testosterone and 5α-dihydrotestosterone), 17β-estradiol (a potent estrogen), and 11β-PGF2α, respectively. Elevated levels of AKR1C3 activate androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathway, contributing to tumor recurrence and imparting resistance to cancer therapies. The overexpression of AKR1C3 serves as an oncogenic factor, promoting carcinoma cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis, and is correlated with unfavorable prognosis and overall survival in carcinoma patients. Inhibiting AKR1C3 has demonstrated potent efficacy in suppressing tumor progression and overcoming treatment resistance. As a result, the development and design of AKR1C3 inhibitors have garnered increasing interest among researchers, with significant progress witnessed in recent years. Novel AKR1C3 inhibitors, including natural products and analogues of existing drugs designed based on their structures and frameworks, continue to be discovered and developed in laboratories worldwide. The AKR1C3 enzyme has emerged as a key player in carcinoma progression and therapeutic resistance, posing challenges in cancer treatment.
