The author provides an overview of Hong Kong's economic situation from a historical perspective considering the period from the 1940s to 1968, from the viewpoint of international trade, and includes an analysis of the area's strengths and weaknesses in industry and trade. Hong Kong's geography does not allow for agriculture and the area has compensated by becoming a center of trade and shipping. Hong Kong is part of Great Britain's commonwealth and enjoys a free trade agreement with Great Britain and China, as well as having favorable trade agreements with the U.S. and Canada. The country relies on small industry for much of its economy, yet small business owners are not well equipped to deal with many aspects of business management.
