Canadian literature, in general, consists of two mainstreams, French and English writings. French writings in Canada often describe Quebec and English writings in Canada often describe Ontario. The Nobel Laureate Alice Munro paints the rural Ontario in most of her works. They are very regional and often becoming the colourful threads of a national dream. She was once called as a regional writer for her regional descriptions. Reading her in deep, a reader can understand the supreme universal themes. She gives clear picture of landscape, environment and climatic condition in her works. She focuses more on places than on human characters. Her works frequently centres on the culture of rural Ontario, Canada. The descriptions of those regional elements spring from the joys and sorrows of the local people and their longings to bring about healthy changes. The layers of Munro's works are simultaneously the old and the new and the regional and the national. Hence, Alice Munro's short story Collection Dear Life can be called as "Literature of Ontario". The paper explores the dimensions of focalization from the point of view of cognitive poetics leaning on the idea that focalization directly affects the reading experience and, therefore, the reception of the narrative discourse. The importance of deixis, their referential value in the storytelling process and reception, is illustrated on the example of the short story “Something I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You” by Alice Munro. Focalization is treated as a rhetorical instrument modifying various layers of the narrative discourse and strategically guiding the process of reception. The first section presents the theories relevant for the understanding of the concept of focalization, and it includes a short overview of deixis from the point of view of cognitive poetics. The analysis of the short story by Alice Munro follows to serve as an illustration of the rhetorical flexibility of storytelling. Alice Munro published in 2012 her last collection of short stories, Dear Life, which includes "Finale", a quartet of stories introduced by the author in semiautobiographical terms. The relevance of the themes addressed is, as may be inferred, significant in relation to her life and previous work. In fact, they echo her first two collections of short stories --Dance of the Happy Shades (1968) and Lives of Girls and Women (1971)-- not only in motifs and events, but also in style. This paper analyses and compares this last section --Munro's conclusive contribution to the literary world-- with her early work to establish joint features and similarities in order to support and extend the often-claimed autobiographical dimension of Munro's fiction from this unexplored perspective. In his introduction to Scottish Literature and Postcolonial Literature, Michael Gardiner argues for bringing together these two separate bodies of texts which are intimately joined. Within the context of the "'postcolonial' spaces of Scotland and Canada" (Gittings, 1995: 135), in this article I offer a comparative reading from the standpoint of Sara Ahmed's affect theory of the post-millennial short stories of A. Three Alice Munro stories – 'Material', 'Family Furnishings' and 'Fiction' – feature readers who react to fiction based on material from their own lives. 'Fiction' is alone in this group as the story in which the reader is pleased, rather than otherwise, with the story she reads. This different reaction is traced to important aspects of the reader's characterization. Only in 'Fiction' is the reader unrelated to the internal story's author and not also a writer herself. These traits make her a reader who consistently revises her ideas about the story she reads, as well as one who can be said to resolve a persistent conflict in this small set of stories. The article discusses the significance of place in the works of Canadian writer Alice Munro. Topics covered include Munro's first book "Dance of the Happy Shades," which is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary in 2018, her manuscript "Places at Home," which consisted of descriptive sketches intended to accompany photographs of Ontario, and her imagined place of Alice Munro Country.

My study addresses major gender issues from cultural and psychoanalytical perspectives, with the help of an archetypal reading of characters in English Canadian fiction by Carol Shields and Alice Munro, as well as the bonds created by love within the couple or family.I will examine the way in which women and men are represented in these authors' fiction, by establishing a correspondence between their characters and the symbolic significance of mythical figures of the Greek Pantheon. Love understood as a spiritual gift giving creates bonds that cannot be untied unless the feeling itself has gone. This psychological enchaining has the power to govern the life of an individual or of a couple, with both private and social implications. Since it has so many possible manifestations and intensity degrees, the only way to study love coherently may be to choose archetypal patterns. From Freud to Irigaray, and Dinnerstein in psychoanalysis, from Frye in literary criticism to contemporary relational psychology, this has been a path of patterning into classification of typologies. This article examines the last part of the novel "The Ottawa Valley" by Alice Munro. According to Munro, the last paragraph of the book expresses dissatisfaction with art. The story focuses on the narrator's memory of a trip made with her mother and sister to her mother's old home in Ottawa Valley. The author argues that the ending is compelling because it has been foreshadowed by a series of humiliations that constitutes the story. The author concludes that Munro learned to foreground her guilt by reaching a new level of self-reflexivity.
