Purpose: The present paper presents developments and advanced practical applications of Rasch's theory and statistical analysis to construct questionnaires for measuring a person's traits. The flaws of questionnaires providing raw scores are well known. Scores only approximate objective, linear measures. The Rasch Analysis allows you to turn raw scores into measures with an error estimate, satisfying fundamental measurement axioms (e.g., unidimensionality, linearity, generalizability). A previous companion article illustrated the most frequent graphic and numeric representations of results obtained through Rasch Analysis. A more advanced description of the method is presented here. Conclusions: Measures obtained through Rasch Analysis may foster the advancement of the scientific assessment of behaviours, perceptions, skills, attitudes, and knowledge so frequently faced in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, not less than in social and educational sciences. Furthermore, suggestions are given on interpreting and managing the inevitable discrepancies between observed scores and ideal measures (data-model "misfit"). Finally, twelve practical take-home messages for appraising published results are provided. The current work is the second of two papers addressed to rehabilitation clinicians looking for an in-depth introduction to the Rasch analysis. The first paper illustrates the most common results reported in published papers presenting the Rasch analysis of questionnaires. There is increasing interest in measuring wellbeing and mental health in a range of settings and services outside conventional mental health care settings. However, ensuring that measurement does not intrude on the primary service activity whilst promoting inclusion through minimizing literacy demands, requires ultra-brief and easy to use tools. To develop and test a brief emoji-based tool to assess mental health, wellbeing, resilience and community connection. In study 1, 672 adults completed an online questionnaire study comprising a new emoji measure and established questionnaires assessing mental health, resilience, community connection and wellbeing. In study 2, 415 participants completed a paper-and-pencil version of the emoji measure, mental health and community connection, with 212 individuals providing data at a second time point. Multidimensional scaling revealed a meaningful structure to the emoji measure with validity demonstrated through relationships to existing scales. Stability over time and sensitivity to change were also demonstrated. The emoji-based measure presented here provides an ultra-brief measure of mood and current experience, with minimal literacy demands on participants. Cognitive cognitive load theory (CLT) has been conceived for improving instructional design practices. Although researched for many years, one open problem is a clear definition of its cognitive load types and their aggregation towards an index of overall cognitive load. In Ergonomics, the situation is different with plenty of research devoted to the development of robust constructs of mental workload (MWL). By drawing a parallel between CLT and MWL, as well as by integrating relevant theories and measurement techniques from these two fields, this paper is aimed at investigating the reliability, validity and sensitivity of three existing self-reporting mental workload measures when applied to long learning sessions, namely, the NASA Task Load index, the Workload Profile and the Rating Scale Mental Effort, in a typical university classroom. These measures were aimed at serving for the evaluation of two instructional conditions. Evidence suggests these selected measures are reliable and their moderate validity is in line with results obtained within Ergonomics. Additionally, an analysis of their sensitivity by employing the descriptive Harrell-Davis estimator suggests that the Workload Profile is more sensitive than the Nasa Task Load Index and the Rating Scale Mental Effort for long learning sessions. In this paper, a new computer-supported collaborative learning-based groupware is proposed for supporting problem-based collaborative learning in computer programming education setting. The geo-distributed learners can collaboratively with their tutor resolve the common programming problem within a shared workspace. The proposed system embeds some synchronous and asynchronous collaborative tools that allow learners and tutor to interact with each other to develop a shared source code of the program. This research work has two main objectives. First, it attempts to present the proposed groupware functionalities. Second, it discusses the experimental study adopted to assess the acceptability of the Groupware. Such study is an empirical method based on the model of unified theory of the acceptance and use of technology to determine learners' Behavioural Intention (BI) to accept to use such Groupware in Algerian higher education setting. The aim of this work was to develop a measurement for the expectations of pregnant women about breastfeeding and examine the psychometric properties of the scale. The study was conducted with two separate samples, including women who were ≥28 weeks pregnant. The first sample, comprising 322 women aged 19 to 49 years (M = 28.19; SD = 4.86), was formed to conduct an exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The second sample, which consisted of 274 women aged 18 to 42 years (M = 28.16; SD = 4.85), was formed to conduct a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The Prenatal Attachment Inventory and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale were administered. Data were collected between April and November 2021. In the EFA, two factors were obtained: "1: Enthusiastic Expectations of Breastfeeding" and "2: Fearful/Anxious Expectations of Breastfeeding." In the CFA, path diagrams and goodness-of-fit criteria showed that psychometric properties of 12-item and two-factor structure of the scale were sufficient. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of the overall scale and subscales were 0.88, 0.81, and 0.89, respectively. The scale was valid and reliable, and it performed well in measurement of pregnant women's expectations of breastfeeding about their future breastfeeding experiences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Treatments for cystic fibrosis (CF) are complex, labour-intensive, and perceived as highly burdensome by caregivers of children with CF. An instrument assessing burden of care is needed. A stepwise, qualitative design was used to create the CLCF with caregiver focus groups, participant researchers, a multidisciplinary professional panel, and cognitive interviews. Preliminary psychometric analyses evaluated the reliability and convergent validity of the CLCF scores. Cronbach's alpha assessed internal consistency and t-tests examined test-retest reliability. Correlations measured convergence between the Treatment Burden scale of the Cystic Fibrosis Questionnaire-Revised (CFQ-R) and the CLCF. Discriminant validity was assessed by comparing CLCF scores in one vs two-parent families, across ages, and in children with vs without Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA). Six Challenge subscales emerged from the qualitative data and the professional panel constructed a scoresheet estimating the Time and Effort required for treatments. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were adequate. Good convergence was found between the Total Challenge score and Treatment Burden on the CFQ-R (r=-0.49, p = 0.02, n = 31). A recent PA infection signalled higher Total Challenge for caregivers (F(23)11.72, p = 0.002). Citizenship Education is currently interpreted as a multidimensional education, even Citizenship Education includes various disciplines related to citizenship issues. One of the actual citizenship problems is about environmental damage, because it is a problem experienced by all nations in the world. This study aimed to develop an instrument to measure students' attitudes related to students' ecological citizenship behavior as one of the outputs of Citizenship Education course in middle school. This study was using development method (R&D) which included several stages, namely preliminary research, development research, effectiveness measurement, and dissemination. The results of the expert assessment of the content and content validation test stated that the digital citizenship-based political participation instrument was assessed according to the CVI 1 (Relevant) value, while the broad-scale analysis of the questionnaire items was obtained with valid results of 26 questionnaire items with reliability value of 0.98. This study found that the instrument was relevant to measure civics learning outcomes in the form of students' ability to apply attitudes in accordance with the value of ecological citizenship. Autobiographical reasoning is a process by which an individual creates a coherent life account. The degree of coherence in autobiographical reasoning has been related to psychological health correlates such as depression and self-esteem in previous studies, but with inconsistent findings. Similarly, the basic psychological processes required to achieve coherence have been previously studied with regard to intelligence, but infrequently, and also with mixed findings. In the present study, we first developed and evaluated a German version of the Awareness of Narrative Identity Questionnaire (ANIQ) as an established measure of self-reported coherence. Second, we tested for cognitive dependencies on intelligence and memory indices. Third, we analysed its associations with psychological health correlates. We assessed a sample of 272 participants and thereof 189 participants again two-weeks later. Results supported the assumptions of the German ANIQ's psychometric qualities (factor structure, test-retest reliability, invariance) and validity (with regard to self-consciousness, self-concept clarity, and written accounts of personal turning points). We found coherence to be independent of intelligence and verbal memory, but partially dependent on figural memory. Coherence was related to depression, positivity, self-esteem, and self-esteem stability, but not to anxiety, substantiating its salutogenic effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Interprofessional education within clinical teaching sites is a key part of training for pre-professional students. However, the necessary characteristics of these interprofessional clinical teaching sites is unclear. We developed a tool, the Interprofessional Education Site Readiness, or InSITE, tool, for individuals at a site to use as a self-assessment of the site's current readiness for providing interprofessional education. The tool progressed through six stages of development, collecting evidence for validity and reliability, resulting in a final tool with 23 questions distributed across five domains. Data from 94 respondents from a variety of national sites were used for the item analysis showing acceptable item-to-total correlations. Internal reliability testing gave a Cronbach's coefficient alpha of more than 0.70 for each group level comparison. Known groups validity testing provides strong evidence for its responsiveness in detecting differences in sites where IPE is implemented. The results of the testing lead us to conclude that the InSITE tool has acceptable psychometric properties. Additionally, we discovered that the process in which the InSITE tool was used demonstrated that it can facilitate learning in practice for the health professionals and can help make implicit, informal workplace learning and the hidden curriculum explicit. Many childhoods and adolescent psychosocial problems involve dysfunctional emotion regulation. A programme has been developed called Affect regulating Arts Therapies (ArAT) to address emotion regulation problems in children and adolescents. The theoretical concepts and techniques have been described in the ArAT programme, but insight into which specific therapeutic actions contribute to the benefits in clinical practice is still lacking. This study aims to construct a measurement instrument (checklist) to test whether the main therapeutic actions are applied in line with the ArAT programme. To develop the measurement instrument, we performed desk research on existing documents and additional literature. In addition, developers were interviewed, and group meetings took place. Finally, to develop the instrument further and investigate the reliability of the measurement instrument, film clips from therapeutic sessions were used and scored by multiple raters. Typical therapeutic actions were defined from attachment, trauma, affect-regulating, mentalising, art therapeutic theories and treatments, and could be divided into the three theoretical phases of the ArAT programme: tension regulation, attention regulation, and affect regulation. A first draft item list of 83 items was based on qualitative analysis. In three phases, the draft item list was reduced to 15 items, of which twelve items met reliability criteria. The therapeutic core of the ArAT programme lies in enhancing the self-regulatory abilities of children/adolescents through art therapeutic actions that target the regulation of tensions, attention, and affects. The set of 15 items is considered a starting point to further investigate the ArAT programme's treatment integrity. This study was aimed at devising and validating a questionnaire on EFL teachers' perceptions of reflective practice. To this end, seven experts in the field of Applied Linguistics were invited to check the face and content validity of the questionnaire with a checklist. They were also asked to rate the questionnaire items on a 5- point Likert scale. Based on the experts' viewpoints (removing 3 items and making some revisions on 8 items) and the review of the relevant literature on teacher reflective practice, 45 items were selected and maintained for the initial scale. To validate the instrument, entailing 45 items, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA, CFA) were used. Based on the EFA results, 3 items were removed from the scale due to their ineffective loading on the factors and scree plot indicated that 5 factors (interpersonal, intrapersonal, critical, behavioral, and strategic) had acceptable eigenvalue that corresponded to the tentative model. The result of CFA also reduced the scale to 33 items. This validated instrument can be used to determine EFL teachers' attempts to be reflective and their perceptions of reflective practice. This study aimed to translate the Lymphedema Quality of Life Questionnaire-leg into Korean (K-LYMQOL-leg) and test its reliability and validity. The LYMQOL-leg was translated forward and backward from English to Korean. Fifty-five patients with lower limb lymphedema completed the K-LYMQOL-leg and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (EORTC-QLQ-C30) at the first visit, and the K-LYMQOL-leg was re-administered within a week. Reliability was tested by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and the Cronbach's alpha for each domain. Face validity was evaluated, and concurrent validity was verified by comparing the K-LYMQOL-leg domain scores with the corresponding EORTC-QLQ-C30 and limb volume scales. The known-group construct validity was then assessed. Excellent reliability was confirmed by internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficient, 0.851–0.878) and test-retest reliability (ICC, 0.901–0.936) in the four domains. A significant correlation was confirmed in the appearance domain with limb volume (r = 0.424) and in the other domains [function, symptom, and mood], with the EORTC-QLQ-C30 scales (r = −0.779, 0.712, and −0.783). Known-group validity was confirmed in all four domains. The K-LYMQOL-leg verified in this study can be used in clinical practice to evaluate the Quality of Life (QOL) of patients with lymphedema or in research as an outcome. Among cancer treatment-related complications, lymphedema of the lower extremities severely and persistently reduces the health-related quality of life of cancer survivors. The Korean version of the Lymphedema Quality of Life Questionnaire-leg (K-LYMQOL-leg) is an easy, reliable and valid questionnaire for patients with lower limb lymphedema. This study developed the Japanese version of the Valued Living Questionnaire Adapted to dementia Caregiving (J-VLQAC) and assessed its reliability and validity. A 2-wave longitudinal survey with an interval of two weeks was conducted with Japanese dementia family caregivers (n = 521 at T1; n = 424 at T2). Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated a poor fit to our data for the original 2-factor model. Exploratory factor analysis resulted in a new 3-factor model (i.e., Own Values, Family Values, and Health Values). Both models showed similar good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) and test-retest reliability. Significant correlations between the J-VLQAC and the Valuing Questionnaire (VQ) and measures assessing related constructs (e.g., cognitive fusion) supported good criterion validity and acceptable level of construct validity for both models. Compared to the original 2-factor model, the new 3-factor model showed higher incremental validity, which was assessed through the hierarchical regression analysis examining whether the J-VLQAC predicts depression, anxiety, and life satisfaction over and above the VQ. The J-VLQAC has good reliability and acceptable validity. Based on literature and available questionnaires, the present study aimed at creating and validating the Perceived Social Support Questionnaire (PSSQ): a 4-item scale assessing the perceived social support in older adults. Normative scores were also computed. Three hundred and two participants (mean age 87.68) selected from ongoing population-based studies completed a phone interview. Among these, 247 completed a second interview 4 months later allowing assessing the questionnaire fidelity over time. The factor analysis evidenced two dimensions: availability of social support and satisfaction with it. Both dimensions had a satisfactory internal consistency but weak intraclass correlation coefficient. Univariate analyses revealed that age, number of calls per week and living environment marginally associated with the availability score. The satisfaction score was associated with perceived health status, sadness, depressive mood, feeling of loneliness, anxiety, and the perception of social support during the pandemic context. The norms computed were stratified on age. The PSSQ is a short and easy-to-administer tool allowing assessing perceived social support in older population. Despite a weak fidelity that could actually be explained by changes in perceived social support over time, the questionnaire revealed good psychometric qualities and validity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to present the construction process of the Coping Inventory for Paralympic Athletes in Competition Situations (ICAP) and, as well, evidence of its content validity. The ICAP was developed to evaluate coping strategies in Paralympic athletes aged 18 years and older, possessing physical and/or visual impairment. The instrument is self-reported and includes the dimensions of Self-Reliance, Support-Seeking, Problem-Solving, Information-Seeking, Accommodation, Negotiation, Delegation, Social Isolation, Helplessness, Escape, Submission, and Opposition. Development of the instrument involved: (1) theoretical foundation based on the motivational theory of coping; (2) construction of the preliminary version of the instrument; (3) items analysis by expert judges; (4) semantic analysis of the items; and (5) pilot study. These procedures enabled the creation and refinement of the instrument. Some items were deleted and modified, reaching a final version of 91 items. This exhaustive process is considered to have ensured the content validity of the instrument. To develop and explore underlying dimensions of the Self-Regulation Assessment (SeRA) and psychometric features of potential components. Further, to identify associations between the SeRA and disability-management self-efficacy, type of diagnosis, and type of rehabilitation. Based on a previously developed model of self-regulation, expert and patient opinions, and cognitive interviews, a list of 22 items on self-regulation (the SeRA) was constructed. The SeRA was included in a cross-sectional survey among a multi-diagnostic group of 563 former rehabilitation patients. Exploratory analyses were conducted. Respondents had a mean age of 56.5 (SD 12.7) years. The largest diagnostic groups were chronic pain disorder and brain injury. Four components were found within the SeRA, labelled as "insight into own health condition," "insight into own capabilities," "apply self-regulation," and "organization of help." Cronbach's alpha was high (total scale: 0.93, subscales: range 0.85–0.89). Only scores on the first subscale showed a ceiling effect. Subscale three showed the highest correlation with a self-efficacy measure. Small differences in SeRA total scores (range 71.6–78.1) were found between different diagnostic groups. The SeRA is a new self-regulation measure with four subscales. Further research is needed to establish the validity and reliability of the SeRA. The Self-Regulation Assessment (SeRA) was developed to provide a comprehensive measurement of self-regulation among rehabilitation populations. The SeRA could potentially be used to identify persons with self-regulation problems at the start of rehabilitation treatment and measure outcomes of rehabilitation for self-regulation. Self-disgust is a complex emotion related to feeling aversion or revulsion about internal and personal physical attributes, personality, functioning and behaviours. The aim of the present study was to adapt, validate and examine the psychometric properties of the Multidimensional Self-Disgust Scale, in a sample of Portuguese adolescents (MSDS-A). Participants were 540 adolescents (n = 308females, 57%), with ages between 13 and 18 years. Data were analysed through SPSS and MPLUS was used to perform a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Self-report questionnaires were used to assess several indicators of psychopathology and self-compassion. Results from the CFA showed that a 4-factor model with a second order factor presented good fit indices. The full scale and its factors showed good internal consistency, adequate temporal stability, and good convergent, divergent and incremental validity. Facial weakness and its functional consequences are an often underappreciated clinical feature of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) by healthcare professionals and researchers. This is at least in part due to the fact that there are few adequate clinical outcome measures available. We developed the Facial Function Scale, a Rasch-built questionnaire on the functional disabilities relating to facial weakness in FSHD. A preliminary 33-item questionnaire was created based on semi-structured interviews with 16 FSHD patients and completed by 119 patients. For reliability studies, 73 patients completed it again after a two-week interval. Data were subjected to semi-automated Rasch analysis to select the most appropriate item set to fit model expectations. This resulted in a 25-item unidimensional, linear-weighted questionnaire with high internal consistency (person separation index = 0.92) and test–retest reliability (patients' locations ICC = 0.98 and items' locations ICC = 0.99). Good external construct validity scores were obtained through correlation with the Communicative Participation Item Bank questionnaire, examiner-reported Facial Weakness Score and facial weakness subscale of the FSHD evaluation score (respectively r = 0.733, r = −0.566, and r = 0.441, all p < 0.001). This study provides a linear-weighted, clinimetrically sound, patient-reported outcome measure on the functional disabilities relating to facial weakness in FSHD, to enable further research on this relevant topic. Nursing applicants' desire to work in nursing has been identified as an important aspect to consider in nursing student selection, but relevant instruments are missing. To describe the development and psychometric testing of the Desire to Work in Nursing instrument. A mixed-methods design. The development phase included the collection and analysis of two types of data. First, three focus group interviews were organised with volunteer nursing applicants (n = 18) after the entrance exams of three universities of applied sciences (UAS) (in 2016). The interviews were analysed inductively. Second, scoping review data from four electronic databases were collected. Thirteen full-text articles (published between 2008 and 2019) were included in the review and analysed deductively based on the results of the focus group interviews. The items for the instrument were generated by synthesising the results of the focus group interviews and the scoping review. The testing phase included 841 nursing applicants who participated in the entrance exams of four UAS on 31 October 2018. The psychometric properties were analysed by examining internal consistency reliability and construct validity by principal component analysis (PCA). The desire to work in nursing was classified into four categories: nature of the work, career opportunities, suitability for nursing and previous experiences. The internal consistency reliability of the four subscales was satisfactory. The PCA found only one factor with an eigenvalue over one, explaining 76% of the total variance. The instrument can be considered reliable and valid. Although theoretically the instrument contains four categories, a one-factor solution should be considered in the future. Evaluation of applicants' desire to work in nursing may provide a strategy to retain students. Individuals choose the nursing profession for variety of reasons. However, there is very little understanding of why nursing applicants desire to work in nursing. With the current challenges in the adequate staffing in the nursing workforce, it is important to understand any aspects that may be associated with student recruitment and retention. In this study, it was identified that nursing applicants desire to work in nursing because of the nature of the work, career opportunities, being suitable for nursing and of previous experiences. Instrument to measure this desire was developed and tested. The tests revealed that the instrument can be used reliably in this context. It is suggested that the developed instrument could be used as a pre-screening or self-assessment tool before applying to nursing education to provide further insights to applicants about their reasons for applying and an opportunity to reflect on their decision. Globally teachers are mandated by law to report suspected child sexual abuse (CSA). The Teachers' Reporting Questionnaire (TRQ) was constructed to assess teachers' intentions to report CSA suspicions in Australia. The current research examines the development of the Teacher Reporting Questionnaire for South African foundation phase educators (TRQ-SA) and provides an evaluation of the TRQ-SA as a survey instrument for utilization in other studies. The TRQ-SA is a self-administered survey instrument used in a cross-sectional quantitative study that investigated teacher reporting intentions using the theory of planned behavior (TPB). A stratified random sample of 399 teachers from the eight school districts in the Western Cape province of South Africa was achieved. Before the TRQ-SA was developed, a qualitative elicitation study was conducted. Once developed, the questionnaire was pre-tested before the quantitative central study survey was administered. Cronbach's alpha was used to indicate reliability of scales, where a minimum α coefficient of.7 is considered acceptable. In the quantitative survey, the TRQ-SA had the following results: α =.74 was achieved for the attitude towards reporting scale, α =.78 for the subjective norm scale, α =.74 for the perceived behavioral control scale and α =.79 for the intention to report scale. The study aim was to develop and assess the measurement properties of the Functional Impact of Augmentative and Alternative Communication – Educator (FIAAC-E) scale – an educator-reported measure designed to detect change in factors associated with communicative participation in students who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). The study had three phases. In phase 1 (content validity), 22 content specialists independently rated the relevancy of 22 dimensions proposed for the new scale. In phase 2 (item generation, face validity), 8 educators independently completed a preliminary version of the FIAAC-E scale and flagged items that were unclear. Next, these educators adjusted the wording of unclear items during consensus-building sessions. In phase 3 (item reduction, reliability, convergent validity), 62 educators completed an online survey that included the revised FIAAC-E scale. Survey data were used to shorten the scale, estimate its reliability, and evaluate support for its convergent validity. In phase 1, the 11 dimensions ranked most highly by content specialists were selected for inclusion in the preliminary scale. In phase 2, educators reviewed 113 items and revised 33 to improve clarity. In phase 3, correlational statistics informed the selection of 77 items for the shortened scale. Subsequent data analyses indicated acceptable levels of internal consistency and test-retest reliability and support for convergent validity of the preliminary measure. The study provides emerging evidence that supports the FIAAC-E scale as a reliable way to evaluate communicative participation in children and youth who use AAC systems at school. Using a reliable means to measure the effectiveness of AAC for children and youth at school may reveal important factors that influence successful communicative, academic, and social participation in school. The role of universities in health promotion has been strengthened by institutional policies and the Health Promoting Universities movement. Together they seek to identify behaviours that are harmful to the health of university students and implement programs or interventions to promote the health of students within the physical environment of universities. However, the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly increased the number of students learning by distance. Under these circumstances, there is an increased need to assess the knowledge, attitudes and health practices of students in distance learning. To develop a KAP (knowledge, attitude and practice) questionnaire on the health of distance learning students. Development was carried out in four stages: 1) literature review to identify existing health programs in universities; 2) formulation of questions based on WHO theoretical frameworks, National Health Promotion Policy and the literature review; 3) selection of interdisciplinary expert judges and submission of the KAP-Health questionnaire for analysis of appearance, efficiency/consistency, clarity/understanding, pertinence of content and sequence of items; and 4) content validation by applying the content validity coefficient (CVC). The mean CVCs obtained were all equal to or greater than 0.96, 0.95 and 0.93 for the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices domains, respectively; all comfortably above the cut-off score of 80% (CVCt = 0.80). At this stage of the study, the judges consider the content of the KAP-Health questionnaire adequate to identify issues related to the health of students in distance learning. However, it is important to note that the next step is to test the usefulness of this questionnaire. We believe that our KAP-Health instrument is both original and useful for planning institutional policies in order to implement assertive strategies to promote the health of remote-learning students in Brazil and in other parts of the world. Few available measures include culturally salient stressors and support systems for caregivers of offspring with disabilities in Asia. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a self-report measure that included relevant stressors and sources of support for caregivers of offspring with disabilities. Open-ended interviews with eight caregivers in Singapore, along with existing measures were used to develop items. The original 34 items were administered to caregivers of offspring with disabilities in Singapore (n = 234, 85% mothers). Based on an examination of factor loadings, internal consistency, and feedback from professionals, the scale was revised and administered to 370 caregivers (78% mothers), along with other measures of stress, support, depression, and well-being. Exploratory factor analysis of the original 34-item scale yielded two factors, Sources of Stress and Sources of Support. After scale revision, confirmatory factor analysis showed that a two-factor structure demonstrated a fair fit. The subscales showed adequate internal consistency and test-retest reliability, and significant associations in expected directions with other measures of stress and support, as well as with depressive symptoms and well-being. The measure has adequate reliability and validity, with implications for use by local service providers. Caregivers face unique challenges, such as stressors associated with caregiving, with varying support systems available to reduce the stress. A psychometrically-sound measure can be used to assess sources of stress and support, monitor services, and address service gaps for caregivers. With the outbreak of the COVID-19 and the need for physical distancing, the provision of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) services via telepractice has been essential. One of the first steps in this field is the need to study telepractice among Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs). However, there is currently no specific instrument to measure telepractice in SLP to achieve this aim. The present study was conducted to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of a questionnaire to investigate telepractice among SLPs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study comprised of two stages: (1) development of the questionnaire according to an in-depth literature review and (2) evaluation of the validity and reliability of the questionnaire. The content validity of the instrument was determined by 10 experts in the field of SLP. To check the face validity of the questionnaire, 10 SLPs were interviewed and their opinions were incorporated in the questionnaire. A total of 221 SLPs completed the questionnaire to determine the construct validity and the internal consistency. To evaluate the test-retest reliability, 30 SLPs completed the questionnaire twice with two weeks of interval. The final version of the questionnaire comprised of three sections and 31 items. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients for different sections of the questionnaire ranged between 0.902 and 0.92 and the Intra-class Correlation coefficients of the sections were found to be between 0.9 and 0.96 in the test-retest reliability. The present study investigated the utility and validity of the Social Emotional Health Survey-Higher Education (SEHS-HE) among Turkish students (N = 345) in higher education. Confirmatory factor analysis found acceptable data-model fit statistics for a priori SEHS-HE latent measurement models and its second-order covitality latent construct. The covitality latent construct was associated with higher levels of mental wellbeing, higher academic achievement, and lower levels of psychological symptoms. Findings provided preliminary evidence supporting the use of the SEHS-HE to measure Turkish university students' social-emotional strengths. Research is needed to further evaluate how the SEHS-HE can be used to inform prevention and intervention services on university campuses that aim to improve students' social, emotional, and mental health and wellbeing. Intolerance of uncertainty, generally measured through the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale - Short form (IUS-12), is a significant trans-diagnostic characteristic determining anxiety disorders and depression. Nevertheless, there are fewer studies on the factor structure of intolerance of uncertainty in non-western countries. In the present study, using confirmatory factor analysis, we studied the factor structure, measurement invariance, and psychometrics of the IUS-12 (Hindi version) on a sample of 862 college students (age: M = 21.42, SD = 3.1) in India. Results show that whereas the different models (i.e. the single-factor, the correlated two-factor, the truncated bi-factor, and the full bi-factor models) were a good fit with the data, the full bi-factor model was the best fitting model. The general factor was a stable and reliable construct that explained most of the variance and, thereby, showed the unidimensionality of the scale. In addition, there was strong measurement invariance in the IUS-12 across gender. Thus, the present study supports the reliability and validity of the IUS-12 and indicates cross-cultural validity of the intolerance of uncertainty. To present the process used to develop the low back pain (LBP) assessment tool including evaluation of the initial content validity of the tool. The development process comprised the elements: definition of construct and content, literature search, item generation, needs assessment, piloting, adaptations, design, and technical production. The LBP assessment tool was developed to assess the construct "functioning and disability" as defined by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Involvement of patients and health professionals was essential. The elements were collapsed into five steps. In total, 18 patients and 12 health professionals contributed to the content and the design of the tool. The LBP assessment tool covered all ICF components shared among 63 ICF categories. This study presents the process used to develop the LBP assessment tool, which is the first tool to address all ICF components and integrate biopsychosocial perspectives provided by patients and health professionals in the same tool. Initial evaluation of content validity showed adequate reflection of the construct "functioning and disability". Further work on the way will evaluate comprehensiveness, acceptability, and degree of implementation of the LBP assessment tool to strengthen its use for clinical practice. A biopsychosocial and patients-centred approach is a strong foundation for identifying the many relevant aspects related to low back pain (LBP). Responding to a lack of tools to support a biopsychosocial and patients-centred approach the LBP assessment tool was developed using a robust, multi-step process with involvement of patients and health professionals. Business collaboration in the era of digital transformation requires the exchange of operational data. Since data are hardly controllable once they have been published or shared with others, it is highly important that users are clearly informed about who has access to which data and how certain settings can prevent the disclosure of sensitive data. However, giving end users more control over their data through increased transparency could also lead to information overload. This is particularly true in the field of agriculture, where tight schedules put pressure on employees of small enterprises. We conduct an empirical prestudy with 52 German farmers to investigate current data sharing scenarios. From these insights, we derive requirements and a concept for data sharing solutions providing data flow transparency for users. To investigate the behavior of users and the effects of transparent UI controls, we evaluate a prototype with 18 persons. Our evaluation shows that farmers demand flexible and secure tools that adjust to their workflows. Also, data should be stored and processed locally, granting farmers data sovereignty. Stroke is the third most common cause of disability worldwide. In order to effectively study the disability status experienced by stroke survivors, it is important to identify reliable and valid tools to measure disability that can be administered to this population. No previous study had been conducted on the Indonesian version of the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0). The aim of this study was to develop and validate the Indonesian version of the WHODAS 2.0 for stroke survivors in Indonesia. Following translation and back-translation, the Indonesian version of the WHODAS 2.0 was administered to 183 stroke survivors. We used all six domains of the WHODAS 2.0, with the exception of four items of "work or school activities" in domain 5. Internal consistency was measured by Cronbach's alpha, the inter-rater reliability was measured by interclass correlations (ICCs), and the construct validity was tested with an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The range of Cronbach's alpha was 0.86–0.92, which indicated excellent reliability, and ICC was very good at 0.87–0.99. The EFA and CFA for the main 32-item questionnaire exhibited a total variance of 95% (KMO) and a p value of <0.05. The factor loadings per items were >0.4, and all the model fit indices were acceptable. The WHODAS 2.0 was adapted for use in Indonesia and showed good results for all six domains. Therefore, the Indonesian version of the WHODAS 2.0 can be applied to assess disability in Indonesian stroke survivors. Reduced efforts to form and maintain social bonds can exist in the context of a sufficient desire for social connection. Thus, social impairment common across many psychiatric conditions may often reflect failures in social effort exertion, despite normative levels of social liking and wanting. Although there are many questionnaires available that assess sociability, desire, or lack thereof for connection and perceived social support, there is no current self-report assessment of the behavioral outputs of social motivation. We aimed to develop and validate a measure of the social effort in college students and the general population. College students (n = 981) and a broader sample of adults via Amazon's Mechanical Turk (MTurk; n = 506) participated in the study. We identified two factors that represented content related to general social effort and social effort in adherence with social norms; we named the measure the Social Effort and Conscientiousness Scale (SEACS). Results suggest the SEACS is a reliable and valid measure of social effort. Lower scores on the SEACS were associated with symptoms of depression and anxiety, highlighting the scale's potential utility in clinical populations. Body experience is an important facet of psychosocial functioning and health. However, to date no test exists to measure body experience in adults with mild intellectual disability and borderline intellectual functioning (MID-BIF). We therefore adapted the Body Experience Questionnaire (BEQ) to this group, resulting in the BEQ-mb, and evaluated its usability, comprehensibility, and reliability. The BEQ-mb was developed in five stages: concept development, focus group, verbal reports, pilot testing, and evaluation. The BEQ-mb is applicable in, and comprehensible by, adults with MID-BIF. Internal consistency is good for the total scale and the body awareness and body satisfaction subscales, but low for the body attitude subscale. Test–retest reliability is excellent for the total scale and the subscales. The BEQ-mb unlocks new opportunities for clinical examination and research on body experience. Objectives: Measuring the perceived mental and physical health status of older adults living in long-term residential care (LTRC) is central to patient-centered care. This study examined the qualitative content validity of the Veterans RAND 12 Item Health Survey (VR-12) for LTRC and, based on the findings, the authors developed an adapted version of the generic patient-reported outcome measure for this population. Methods: Content validity was evaluated in two steps: (1) initial resident feedback (n = 9) and research team consensus discussions and (2) cognitive interviews with residents (n = 18) and a research team consensus discussion. The cognitive interviews examined comprehension, acceptability, and relevance of the VR-12 items. Results: Two VR-12 items had limited acceptability in the LTRC setting, the reference to "work" in items was irrelevant to residents, and the lack of a frame of reference ("During the past week ... ") impacted comprehension of several items. Conclusions: Study findings informed the development of an adapted version of the VR-12 for older adults living in Canadian LTRC homes and provided content validity evidence regarding its relevance and appropriateness for this population. Agility is a crucial fitness component for success in sports and daily playful activities for children. The purpose of this study was to develop a multicomponent agility test, N-challenge, to determine the content validity and reliability of N-challenge, and to investigate the enjoyment level of N-challenge among elementary school boys. N-challenge consisted of six sections and total running time. The running time of N-challenge was measured in a single trial concomitantly with timing/speed gates. Content validity was assessed by eight experts in sports science. To measure reliability, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and standard error of measurement (SEM) were calculated using a test-retest procedure. The enjoyment levels of the boys who performed N-challenge were assessed using a questionnaire. The item-content validity index of the total running time of N-challenge was 1.00. The ICC of the total running time of N-challenge was 0.97 (95% confidence interval: 0.96–0.98), which was categorized as an almost perfect level of reliability. The SEM of N-challenge was 0.18 s (1.9%), indicating good absolute reliability. Approximately 95% of the boys showed enjoyment after performing the test. The aim of this study was to develop a questionnaire that allows researchers to investigate and measure the impact of physical disability on pregnancy and the management of motherhood. Such a questionnaire requires good internal consistency. The tool was developed following a study conducted in 2013 in the United States consisting of a semi-structured interview with open-ended questions. A team of three experts drafted and refined the questions, generating 31 retrospective, self-rated, and predefined questions (answered using a 5-point Likert scale). A statistical analysis of the instrument was also included, to assess its reliability and internal consistency. The Pregnancy and Motherhood Evaluation Questionnaire (PMEQ) was prepared. It is a self-administered questionnaire consisting of an initial section and three subscales. In this phase of the study, 35 women with different pathologies leading to physical disability were recruited and completed the questionnaire. The PMEQ was found to have a good internal consistency. Cronbach's α was 0.812 (p > 0.05). The PMEQ has proven to be a valid, reliable, and rapid administrative tool useful for investigating and measuring the impact of physical disability on the management of pregnancy and motherhood. This study provides researchers and clinicians a new tool for the evaluation of motherhood and pregnancy in women with physical disabilities. We use self-determination theory to extend the conceptual understanding of flu vaccine hesitancy among health professionals. The scale sheds light on the role played by motivational factors above and beyond traditional cognitive factors such as biased risk judgements and health beliefs. Across five phases using data from 718 healthcare professionals we establish factor structure, reliability, discriminant, convergent, criterion-related, incremental validity, and measurement invariance of the Treatment Self-Regulation Questionnaire assessing healthcare professionals' motivation for flu vaccination scale (TSRQ-Flu). In addition to the four factors of the TSRQ-Flu (autonomous, introjection, external and amotivation regulations), we assess intentions to vaccinate, past vaccination behaviour and validate the scale using measures of cognitive empowerment, vaccine attitudes and social desirability. Our findings indicate that the newly developed 11-item scale is distinct from and contributes over and beyond other psychosocial measures of flu vaccination intentions and can be used to understand the motivation of both vaccinated and not-vaccinated healthcare professionals. This new scale has the potential to make a marked change in the conceptualisation of the roots of vaccine hesitancy among healthcare professionals and aid healthcare managers in developing evidence-based interventions to promote vaccination among their staff. Research implicates psychological factors in low uptake of lung cancer screening. We developed and psychometrically tested a standardised measure of these psychological determinants in preparation for a prospective, longitudinal cohort study of screening uptake. Leventhal's Common-Sense Model of Self-Regulation of Health and Illness provided the theoretical framework to generate the initial item pool. Items were refined during expert review and cognitive interviews which tested for face validity, redundancy, acceptability and comprehensibility. An online survey piloted the refined pool with 1500 current and former (quit ≤ 15 years) smokers aged 55–80. The response distributions, internal reliability and factor structure determined the final retained constructs. Regression analyses examined these constructs' associations with screening intention, smoking status and demographics. The final measure included seven factor-derived subscales (consequences, personal control, treatment control, illness coherence, emotional representation, behavioural response and appraisal, risk perception) with Cronbach's alphas ranging from 0.59 to 0.91 and four single-item questions (response efficacy for smoking cessation, treatment intention, perceived stigma and lung cancer survival). Most constructs were associated with smoking status and screening intention (p's <.05). The Self-Regulatory Questionnaire for Lung Cancer Screening (SRQ-LCS) is an acceptable, reliable and valid measure for investigating the psychological determinants of screening uptake. Manual wheelchair users are more vulnerable, in situations such as road crossings, hazardous sidewalks or curbs and crossing of buildings and facilities threshold. Geospatial assistive technology (GAT) can help with route planning. However, it is important to ensure the usability of such products, as well as the satisfaction of persons with reduced mobility. The study's aim was (1) to develop and validate a questionnaire on the satisfaction of GAT, in English and French, and to (2) assess satisfaction, efficacy and efficiency of a GAT with manual wheelchair users following a filmed trial in a dense urban area. A methodological study was conducted (development of the questionnaire, assessment of its content validity, feasibility and practicability) followed by a trial and post-observations with the videos. Two questionnaires (English, French) were concurrently validated by two groups of experts (n = 8), and then field-tested by wheelchair users (n = 8), using Google Maps Pedestrian routeing tool. The Evaluation of satisfaction with geospatial assistive technology (ESGAT) consists in a user profile and their experience with the technology, followed by 12 satisfaction criteria rated from 1-not satisfied to 5-very satisfied. Both questionnaires were rated as feasible and practicable to complete. The usability of Google Maps Pedestrian routeing tool was measured as "moderate" by manual wheelchairs since the total satisfaction score at the ESGAT was 3.9/5 (quite satisfied). The items with the lowest score were navigation assistance, hands-free function and security. The GAT was effective (87.5% have completed their destination) but not efficient (37.5% needed help). The Students' Perceptions of Physician-Pharmacist Interprofessional Clinical Education and its revision (SPICE, SPICE-R) were designed to understand medicine and pharmacy students' perceptions of interprofessional education and collaborative practice in managing complex health problems. The SPICE-R authors, however, suggested for additional items for subscales "roles and responsibilities for collaborative care" and "patient outcomes from collaborative practice". We added two items and introduced SPICE-R3 to differentiate it from the 10-item SPICE-R2 and to adapt the scale to a wider range of healthcare members. We administered the SPICE-R3 to healthcare students at the height of the COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong in February 2020. Using data from 225 students from Chinese medicine, medicine, nursing, and pharmacy, confirmatory factor analysis indicated nine items having acceptable item coefficients. Our data obtained a good fit to the three-factor, nine-item model suggesting construct validity. Results of the between-network analysis suggest that the three subscales of SPICE-R3 correlated systematically with other theoretically relevant variables in the nomological network suggesting convergent validity. The SPICE-R3 is a valid measure to examine Hong Kong healthcare students' interprofessional attitudes in online interprofessional education even during the pandemic. Objective The psychometric properties of a measure of social determinants of health for college students entitled, The LIFESCREEN-C was developed. Participants: A sample of 226 college students completing an online survey during the 2018-2019 academic year. Methods: Tetrachoric correlations were used to confirm a three factor model. Results: Results found model fit; convergent validity with a measure of general health; and adequate internal reliability. This research project aimed to develop and validate a rowing-specific reinvestment scale. In Study 1, a 24-item questionnaire was developed and the content validity was assessed using experts (N = 7) and pilot-tested in rowers (N = 24). Next, rowers (N = 282) completed the questionnaire with the remaining items, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted. This further reduced the number of items and revealed two factors, rowing specific conscious motor processing (RS-CMP) and movement self-consciousness (RS-MSC). In Study 2, rowers (N = 270) completed the scale that was evaluated using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Moreover, the construct validity of the scale was investigated by asking them to complete measures of movement-specific reinvestment, perceived performance, self-consciousness, and state anxiety. Actual performance was also determined based on their race finishing position. Study 1 EFA resulted in a 2-factor model with six items assessing RS-CMP and six items assessing RS-MSC. Study 2 supported the factor structure of scale; CFA indicated an acceptable model fit with good internal consistency. Content validity was also supported, with evidence of concurrent, convergent, discriminant, and predictive validity. Social and emotional development in early childhood has been shown to predict long-term outcomes, including school readiness and academic achievement. Early years practitioners need robust assessment tools to adequately identify early signs of social, emotional, behavioural and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. The current study aimed to develop and validate the Early Years Boxall Profile (EYBP). A total of 510 children were assessed by preschool practitioners using the EYBP and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. We found that the EYBP showed limited accuracy in screening children with SEMH difficulties. However, the EYBP had good internal consistency and excellent convergent and concurrent validity. Results suggest that the tool may be helpful to identify early signs of SEMH needs. Future research is needed to explore the structural validity of the assessment tool and to improve its diagnostic abilities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the current study was to develop a reliable instrument for the Active Communication Education (ACE) programme evaluating changes in communication strategies and the emotional consequences, knowledge and acceptance of hearing loss and to examine its reliability and face, content and construct validity. Semistructured interviews and questionnaires were conducted with participants and clinicians engaged in the ACE intervention. The psychometric properties were evaluated in two phases for two samples of adults with hearing loss who participated in the ACE programme, including 61 and 41 participants, respectively. The final Communication and Acceptance Scale (CAS) contained 18 items, and the reliability of the overall scale (Cronbach's alpha 0.86) and the test–retest reliability (r = 0.89, p < 0.001) were good. The construct validity, evaluated with principal component analysis, suggested a five-factor solution explaining 72% of the variance. The questionnaire revealed statistically significant short- and long-term effects of the ACE programme. Both participants and clinicians found the questionnaire relevant, useful and easy to administer. The CAS questionnaire was found to be valid and reliable, but because of the low sample size, further analysis with a larger population is needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article demonstrates the advantages of using both confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and item response theory (IRT) in the development and evaluation of social work scales with dichotomous or polytomous items. Social work researchers have commonly employed CFA and internal consistency reliability tests to validate scales for use in research- and evidence-based practice; IRT has been underused. We report findings from CFA and IRT analyses of a short social isolation scale for elementary school students to demonstrate that scale development and validation can benefit from complementary use of the two methods. Results provided evidence that scores from the scale are statistically sound, and each method contributed valuable information. Data collected from 626 third- through fifth-grade students using the social isolation scale from the Elementary School Success Profile (ESSP) were examined with both CFA and IRT. Complementary CFA and IRT results provide detailed information about item and scale performance of the social isolation scale. Evidence-based practice requires scales with known properties; knowledge of those properties is more complete when researchers use both CFA and IRT. This study aimed to develop and validate the Life-view Scale. In study one, a sample of 182 university students completed the questionnaire. The scale had good internal consistency (alpha =.81). Exploratory factor analysis of the initial scale resulted in five factors (satisfaction, purpose, search, direction, and doubt). Factors were significantly inter-correlated, except the Doubt factor which was not correlated with Search and Direction factors. In study two, a sample of 59 university students participated in answering the questionnaire on two occasions with an interval of 15 days. The test–retest correlation of the questionnaire was good (r =.81). In study three, a sample of 71 university lecturers completed the questionnaire alongside measures of burnout and job satisfaction. The Life-view Scale was found to be positively correlated to job-satisfaction only. In summary, the Life-view Scale was found to possess satisfactory measures of internal reliability, temporal stability, and convergent validity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding medical students' motivational regulation strategies is particularly salient to monitor their quality and quantity of motivation. This study aims to develop and validate a questionnaire to measure metamotivational strategies in medical students. A Metamotivational Strategies in Medical Students Questionnaire (MSMQ) was developed by using the seven steps presented in 'developing questionnaires for educational research: AMEE Guide No. 87'. First, in a systematic search, related articles extracted and nine instruments were identified. Then, in a qualitative study, the metamotivational strategies of medical students were explained. In the next step, the identified strategies were conceptually compared with previous studies, and the MSMQ items were developed. Finally, expert validation, cognitive interviews, exploratory factor analysis, and reliability analysis were conducted. The MSMQ consisted of 7 factors and 28 items. CVI >0.79 in terms of relevance, clarity, and simplicity. In exploratory factor analysis, seven subscales explained 67.5% of the variance. Cronbach's alpha = 0.89. ICC = 0.76 − 0.87. The MSMQ has reasonable psychometric properties, with adequate internal reliability and strong evidence of structural validity.
