Purpose - A brief critical review of the existing literature on the topic of integrity opens up the scope for a detailed approach to the meaning of social integrity, or integrity in its social relational sense. The tenor of explanation of this concept is then taken up as a subspace of the meaning of the supreme good and therein the concept of goodness. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach - All such concepts are studied in the relational sense of epistemic origin of values. Such ethical values arise from the epistemic ontology of the moral law. They are contrasted with the contrary meanings under the episteme of rationalism. Findings - Rationalism as philosophy of mind and matter devoid of a substantive acceptance of the divinely inspired functional ontology of the moral law is also critically and formally studied. Research limitations/implications - More empirical work needed and which indeed can be done both statistically as well as by quantitative mathematical models. The scope for this extension remains wide open in the paper. Practical implications - The paper presents an immense import in the study of cognitive economics, behavioral finance, and decision making in the area of ethical finance and organizational behavior as a conscious institution. An example is provided. Many more areas are indicated. Altogether a vast scope of conception and applications in the area of endogenous ethics and socio-scientific field remains open. Originality/value - The paper is truly original crossing the boundaries of social cybernetics and systems into mathematical algorithmic treatment exemplified by a game-theoretic example of the imminent place of the meanings of the good, goodness, and the trait of integrity in social behavior. All these are together embedded in the study of embedded social system and cybernetic study. Purpose - The aim of this paper is to investigate whether protection of core capabilities requires a greater level of control, i.e. ownership, even if it is at the cost of lower flexibility. Despite the significant research interest in equity alliances, knowledge of strategic orientation of acquiring companies is still incomplete. Design/methodology/approach - The study examines two main generic organizational forms, hierarchy and market, their benefits and threats for acquiring companies while protecting their core capabilities in equity alliances. Findings - The protection of core capabilities is becoming an important strategic objective in the processes of forging equity alliances which are based on ownership and legal relationships. Ownership brings more control over core capabilities which mean competitive advantage through hierarchical organizational structure on the one hand but less flexibility as otherwise benefited in market organizational structure on the other. Research limitations/implications - Further studies are required in order to corroborate the assessment of presented organizational forms and to explore these relationships over a longer period of time. Practical implications - The topic is relevant for designing strategies in acquiring companies or those companies becoming a part of global networks. Better understanding of strategic orientation and concept of control could significantly enhance the success rate in M&A activity. Originality/value - The paper explores as to when and why a certain organizational structure, hierarchy or market, is the preferred one for companies. Trust relationship is an effective basis for reducing the dimensionality of decision makers (DMs) for group decision making (GDM) problems in the context of social networks, and have received extensive attention in the past few years. However, most existing studies describe the trust relationship only from the single perspective of the interpersonal relationships between DMs, which easily leads to inaccurate decision-making results. In this paper, we propose a dynamic consensus method using a dual-trust relationship-based social network (DTRSN) to solve large group emergency decision-making (LGEDM) problems. First, to more accurately reflect the trust relationship among DMs, a DTRSN based on familiarity-based trust and similarity-based trust is developed, which can comprehensively model the interpersonal relationships and opinion similarity between DMs simultaneously. Next, a DTRSN-based clustering method that considers dual-trust relationships is introduced to divide the large-group DMs into several clusters. Subsequently, to improve the efficiency of LGEDM, the exit-delegation mechanism is modified and introduced into our study, which can speed up consensus by excluding some subgroups whose opinions differ greatly from other subgroups and reserve their influence. Subsequently, a dynamic consensus method based on the modified exit-delegation mechanism is proposed to help DMs reach an agreement quickly. Finally, a case study regarding emergency alternative selection to deal with heavy rainstorms in Zhengzhou, China, is conducted to verify the efficiency of our study, and several comparison and simulation analyses are also conducted to demonstrate the feasibility and practicality of the proposed method. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop some 2-tuple linguistic aggregation operators based on Muirhead mean (MM), which is combined with multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) and applied the proposed MAGDM model for supplier selection under 2-tuple linguistic environment. Design/methodology/approach – The supplier selection problem can be regarded as a typical MAGDM problem, in which the decision information should be aggregated. In this paper, the authors investigate the MAGDM problems with 2-tuple linguistic information based on traditional MM operator. The MM operator is a well-known mean type aggregation operator, which has some particular advantages for aggregating multi-dimension arguments. The prominent characteristic of the MM operator is that it can capture the whole interrelationship among the multi-input arguments. Motivated by this idea, in this paper, the authors develop the 2-tuple linguistic Muirhead mean (2TLMM) operator and the 2-tuple linguistic dual Muirhead mean (2TLDMM) operator for aggregating the 2-tuple linguistic information, respectively. Some desirable properties and special cases are discussed in detail. Based on which, two approaches to deal with MAGDM problems under 2-tuple linguistic information environment are developed. Finally, a numerical example concerns the supplier selection problem is provided to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed methods. Findings – The results show that the proposed can solve the MAGDM problems within the context of 2-tuple linguistic information, in which the attributes are existing interaction phenomenon. Some 2-tuple aggregation operators based on MM have been developed. A case study of supplier selection is provided to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed methods. The results show that the proposed methods are useful to aggregate the linguistic decision information in which the attributes are not independent so as to select the most suitable supplier. Practical implications – The proposed methods can solve the 2-tuple linguistic MAGDM problem, in which the interactions exist among the attributes. Therefore, it can be used to supplier selection problems and other similar management decision problems. Originality/value – The paper develop some 2-tuple aggregation operators based on MM, and further present two methods based on the proposed operators for solving MAGDM problems. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to show how individual acts of goal-setting of two persons or systems A and B determine, which modes of coexistence become possible in an interaction of the two. Design/methodology/approach – Some person or system A can approach another person or system B with an inclination to realize one of four goal-setting processes: first, A sets goals for B; second, A sets no own goals; third, A pursues own goals alone; and fourth, A and B develop mutual goals. And an interaction of A and B can lead to just four modes of coexistence: first, conflict – A and B fight; second, hierarchy – A submits to B; third, independence in niches – A and B do not interact; and fourth, cooperation – A and B work together. Findings – Placing the inclinations of A and B to realize one of the four goal-setting processes in a 4×4 matrix leads to the interaction matrix. It shows that individual goal-setting processes predetermine and limit the available modes of coexistence, i.e. cause certain patterns of interactions. Practical implications – The interaction matrix can be applied to all interactions between persons, groups and social units generally. Originality/value – The paper introduces a theoretical framework covering all options of goal-orientated behavior. It explains the interrelation between individual goal-setting of persons and systems and the resulting behavioral options in interactions. It is applicable to all behavioral sciences.
