With the aim of investigating diversity in the addiction journal publishing field, information about 41 peer-reviewed addiction journals and their total content for the year 2018 were collected. Quantitative and qualitative content analytical methods were employed to map geographic and gender representation among authors and editors as well as the level of epistemic heterogeneity in terms of the share of qualitative research publications. Affiliations among authors and editors showed an overwhelming US and Anglophone dominance. Representation of low-income countries was close to zero, there was also a negligible number of author and editor affiliations in middle income countries. Editors-in-chief were mostly male (80 %). Claims of applicability and closeness to a use context were expressed as important for all journals in their declarations of scope and aims. The study concludes with encouraging journals in the addiction field to build up strategies to deal with lack of heterogeneity. Rationale and Objectives: We examined female representation on editorial boards of four prominent radiology journals. We compared editorial board representation to female academic radiology career advancement and the proportion of female authorship in three journals over four decades., Methods: We collected data on the gender of editorial board members as listed on mastheads of Radiology, American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR), Academic Radiology, and the Journal of the American College of Radiology in 5-year intervals plus the most recent year available (1973-2017), and the gender of their editors-in-chief for all years since each journal's inception. We compared Radiology, AJR, and Academic Radiology data to published data on gender of the journals' authors, all US medical students, and academic radiologists over time., Results: Gender was determined for 171 editors-in-chief (100%) and 2139 (100%) editorial board members listed in the selected journals for each of the study years. The proportion of women on editorial boards increased from 1.4% (1 of 69) in 1978 to 18.8% (73 of 388) in 2013 (P < .001), but remained below the proportion of female first authors (7.5% in 1978 and 27.1% in 2013) and female faculty in radiology (11.5% in 1978 and 28.1% in 2013). None of the four general radiology journals had a female editor-in-chief during the study period., Conclusions: Female representation on editorial boards has increased over time, but still lags behind increases seen in female first authorship in radiology journals and radiology faculty appointments over the last four decades. This article investigates whether editorial board members of selected economic journals publish their research papers in their 'own' journal. Journals were selected from the Journal Citation Report ® from the categories Business; Business, Finance; and Economics. Only research articles published between 2012 and 2015 were included in the analysis. We recorded ratios concerning the share of articles authored by editorial board members, the share of editorial board members publishing in their own journals and ratios representing their publication output. The average share of articles authored by editorial board members ranges from 0.6 to 17.5%. The average share of editorial board members publishing in their own journals ranges from 5.6 to 24.4%. Considering only editorial board members publishing in their own journals, the share of their articles in their journals ranges from 8.2 to 71.4%. While the share of board members publishing only in their own journals, to the number of board members publishing in their own journals, the ratio in a quarter of journals is equal to zero, with a maximum reach of 85.7%. All observed ratios are significantly positively correlated with the gap between impact factor and impact factor without Journal Self Cites; and negatively correlated with the Article Influence Score. A cluster of journals in which a high proportion of editorial board members publish and simultaneously these members publish in their own journal at a high rate was identified.

The Family Journal (TFJ) has experienced increases in manuscripts submitted for publication, especially from international scholars and quantitative researchers. This reverses a previous trend to publish more practice-oriented articles for our clinical readership. The journal will take efforts to balance theory, research, and practice. Some manuscripts are rejected for distribution to the editorial board (or "unsubmitted") due to problems conforming to the APA Publication Manual 7th Edition guidelines. Some submissions would benefit from reviews by colleagues and securing the services of an editor. Authors are asked to attend to guidelines concerning levels of headings and formatting of citations and references. Most importantly, authors should follow bias-free language guidelines. There are additional considerations in the desk review process such as including practice implications for Marriage and Family Counselors in the article and incorporating relevant previously published articles from TFJ in the literature review. Cochrane devolves most editorial governance of the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), including title prioritization, protocol registration, peer‐review, editorial oversight and subsequent review deposition, to specific Cochrane Review Group (CRG) editorial boards. Current Cochrane policy stipulates authors of reviews who are also members of the supporting CRG declare this non‐financial conflict of interest and confirm no involvement in the review editorial process. The aim of this cross‐sectional analysis was to assess adherence to Cochrane's editorial conflict of interest policy. All 260 published Cochrane reviews (CR) in issues 1 to 6 from 2019 of the CDSR were reviewed. A total of 133 (51.2%, 133/260) of CRs had at least one author that was also listed as an editor in the CRG. Of these, only five (3.8%, 5/133) appropriately declared the conflict according to Cochrane policy. In 6.5% (17/133) CRs, the contact author had a leading editorial position within the CRG and in only four of 17 was this declared according to Cochrane policy. No CR with the contact author who also had a leading editorial position described methods to prevent any potential issues related to this scenario during the editorial process in accordance with Cochrane policy. Purpose: This article aims to provide prospective authors guidelines that will hopefully enable them to submit more competitive manuscripts to journals publishing careers research. Design/methodology/approach: Based on their experience as an author, reviewer and editorial team member, the authors identify the main criteria that a quantitative study must meet to be considered for publication in international peer-reviewed journals covering career-related topics. They emphasize the importance of contributing to the careers literature and of designing the study in accordance with the research question. Findings: Manuscripts are rejected because they are insufficiently innovative, and/or because sample, instruments and design are not appropriate to answer the research question at hand. Cross-sectional designs cannot be used to answer questions of mediation but should not be discarded automatically since they can be used to address other types of questions, including questions about nesting, clustering of individuals into subgroups, and to some extent, even causality. Originality/value: The manuscript provides an insight into the decision-making process of reviewers and editorial board members and includes recommendations on the use of cross-sectional data. Background: Women have historically been underrepresented as editors of peer-reviewed medical journals. Studies have demonstrated that there are differences in editorial board reviewer behavior based on gender, suggesting that greater representation by women on editorial boards may improve the quality and diversity of the review process. Therefore, the current representation of women on the editorial boards of orthopaedic journals, particularly compared with peer-reviewed surgical and medical journals, is of interest.Questions/purposes: (1) What is the representation of women as members of editorial boards of prominent orthopaedic surgery journals? (2) How does it compare with representation on the editorial boards of journals in general surgery and internal medicine?Methods: The top 15 journals with a strong clinical emphasis based on Impact Factor (Clarivate Analytics) calculated by the 2018 Journal Citation Reports were identified for orthopaedic surgery, general surgery (and all general surgical subspecialties), and internal medicine (with representative internal medicine subspecialties). Clinical publications with their primary editorial office located in the United States led predominantly by physicians or basic scientists were eligible for inclusion. The members of an editorial board were identified from the journals' websites. The gender of editors with gender-neutral names (and editors whose gender we considered uncertain) was identified by an internet search for gender-specific pronouns and/or pictures from an institutional profile. Fisher exact tests and t-tests were used to analyze categorical and continuous variables, respectively. Significance was set at p < 0.05.Results: Of the editors analyzed, women made up 9% (121 of 1383) of editorial boards in the orthopaedic journals with the highest Impact Factors, compared with 21% (342 of 1665) of general surgery journals (p < 0.001) and 35% (204 of 587) of internal medicine journals (p < 0.001). The overall mean composition of editorial boards of orthopaedic journals was 10% ± 8% women, compared with that of general surgery, which was 19% ± 6% women (p < 0.001), and that of internal medicine, which was 40% ± 19% women (p < 0.001).Conclusion: Women make up a smaller proportion of editorial boards at orthopaedic surgery journals than they do at general surgery and internal medicine journals. However, their representation appears to be comparable to the proportion of women in orthopaedics overall (approximately 6%) and the proportion of women in academic orthopaedics (approximately 19%). Ways to improve the proportion of women on editorial boards might include structured mentorship programs at institutions and personal responsibility for championing mentorship and diversity on an individual level.Clinical Relevance: Increasing representation of women on editorial boards may improve the diversity of perspectives and quality of future published research, generate visible role models for young women considering orthopaedics as a career, and improve patient care through enriching the diversity of our specialty. The World Journal of Surgery (WJS) has announced that Wiley will be its new publisher, replacing Springer after 47 years. The decision to switch publishers was driven by the changing landscape of journal publishing and the need for a firm commitment to society-owned journals. Wiley was chosen for its support of the WJS's hybrid format and commitment to high-quality peer-reviewed content. Objectives: In the first issue of 2016 of the Korean Journal of Child Studies (KJCS), development strategies were proposed. It aimed to examine the changes made in response to each proposal and to suggest steps for further improvement. Methods: Changes in the characteristics and status of the journal from 2016 to 2020 were described, and new suggestions for further development strategies were proposed. Therefore, this article is a follow-up study of past data. Results: Among the development strategies proposed in 2016, the following aspects improved: specific aims and scope, official ISO abbreviations, open access declarations, international-level layout, manuscript editing, detailed instructions to authors, and digital standards including Journal Article Tag Suite XML. However, further improvements remain to be made with regard to changing the journal title, obtaining permission to use others' measurement tools, requiring statements of institutional review board (IRB) approval and informed consent, ensuring the long-term tenure of an editor-in-chief, and internationalizing the editorial board membership. The 2015 Web of Science impact factor was calculated as 0.009, while that of 2019 was 0.04. In contrast, the number of cites per 2 years in Scopus rose from 0.03 in 2015 to 0.07 in 2019. Conclusion: The above results showed that digital standards have been implemented perfectly. However, articles should specify whether permission was received to use measurement tools and whether IRB approval and informed consent were obtained. This paper examines the gender composition of editors and editorial board members of seven top criminal justice and criminology (CCJ) journals from 1985 through 2017. The findings indicate that women have historically been, and continue to be, underrepresented in these positions. From 1985 through 2017, women comprised 14% of all Editors-in-Chief, 27% of all Associate Editors, and 22% of all Editorial Board members. While there was a period during the early 2000s when Justice Quarterly and Criminology achieved gender parity in representation across all of the editorial roles, this equality was short lived. The other journals have never achieved gender parity, and, on average, women have comprised 3.8% to 35.2% of the editorial positions at each of the journals. The implications of this imbalance for women's scholarship and professional success are discussed, and recommendations for changes to CCJ journal policies and practices to ensure more equity are provided. Social media has become a key component of contemporary medicine, and the rheumatology subspecialty is not an exemption. We found that just six of the 40 key peer-reviewed rheumatology journals have found it sensible to incorporate the new appointment of a Social Media Editor—or a similar designation—into their Editorial Boards. We propose that the role of a social media editor is a trinomial: not only a technological work to promote digital engagement but also an activity of ethical guidance and a cultural challenge dealing with worldwide cultural and mindset diversity. Insights: the UKSG Journal switched to a continuous publication model in early 2018, following a decision by the Editorial Board in November 2017. The prospect of a switch had been discussed a number of times previously. In the event, the decision was quickly made and the transition largely smooth. Given UKSG's position as a membership organization including many publishing members, it was considered that a case study of the process would be useful in helping members and other publishers to consider and execute a similar transition.
