The aim of this paper is to present the potential of quantitative methods for the research of proper names (mostly personal and place names) as units operating in Czech texts. Three case studies treat particular research topics on the background of the development of Czech onomastics in the 20th century and in the first decades of the 21st century. They are aimed at 1) quantification of relational (semantic) patterns; 2) collocation analysis; 3) morphological categories of proper names. The study focuses on toponyms and their role in "Silesian Songs" by Petr Bezruč (1867-1958), an important Silesian poet and bard. The authors build on their previous quantitative-linguistic research on Bezruč, which focused on anthroponyms ("Géro versus Ondra. Anthroponyms in Silesian Songs as Seen through the Prism of Keywords and Collocations"), and thus present a comprehensive picture of proper names in this poetry collection. The aim of the study is to use quantitative methods -- frequency and collocation analyses and keyword detection -- in order to clarify the functioning of place names in "Silesian Songs", to classify their interrelationships, and to compare them with the system of Bezruč's anthroponyms. Analyses show that proper names make up 30% of the keywords of "Silesian Songs", they are thus an important feature of the poet's poetics. Anthroponyms and toponyms are equally frequent. The distribution of geographical names corresponds to the Zipf distribution -- Bezruč prefers a narrow range of names, while many others are only used occasionally. Furthermore, most toponyms are oriented towards Silesia, but there are also localities associated with the Habsburg monarchy, Antiquity, and exoticism, which usually serve as building blocks of metaphors. In the context of Silesia, Bezruč places his poems primarily in the Těšín region; the Opava and Hlučín ones are in most cases the settings of his intimately-tuned poems. Other important traits of the collection are the tension between the names of inhabited and natural places and the multifaceted lyrical subject, which links, via collocations, the four most frequent geographical names of the text -- Těšín, Beskydy, Ostravice, and Dombrová. This study focuses on the methodology behind digital literary cartography and quantitative analysis of narrative texts, while attempting to show, through specific examples, one of the ways they can functionally interconnect. The first part of the study presents an overview, focusing on selected foreign literary-cartographic projects, while the second part presents some original research, focusing on the literary-cartographic mapping of Prague's fictional topography in 19th century Czech prose. In addition to cartographic models, the study also presents basic models for quantitative analysis of selected criteria relating to fictional narratives. The ultimate aim of the paper is both to show the opportunities for combining the two basic types of models and to demonstrate their potential for informing the way literary works are interpreted. It is not only the coronavirus crisis that has caused shortages on the labour market. The lack of workers has affected the Czech market across industries. Companies in the Czech Republic were already struggling with labour shortages before Covid-19. Companies are looking abroad for the employees they need, and are forced to use innovative approaches to attract them. The paper presents the results of quantitative research among expatriates conducted at one of the SKODA AUTO's plants that is a pillar of the Czech automotive industry. The aim of the research was to identify the degree of application of internal personnel marketing through a questionnaire survey. It further investigated why expatriate employees chose SKODA AUTO as their employer, what the source of information about a particular job there is, whether they perceive cultural differences in the workplace that may influence them, and other. Based on the research findings, the paper formulates recommendations, in theform of the 4Ps in personnel marketing, leading to the attraction and stabilization of foreign employees.

This article aims to present the results of a quantitative analysis of bibliographical data about the Czech literary criticism in 2021. The source of these data is the Czech literary bibliography article database. The database contains information not only about print periodicals but also about online sources. For this reason, the article compares results from these two areas. The analysis shows differences and similarities between print and online criticism - which books or writers were evaluated and who created literary discourse. The literary criticism is examined from the point of view of gender and age of critics too. The article brings new information mainly about online literary criticism, which has not recieved much attention yet. Electoral integrity is one of the principle conditions of free political competition among parties and candidates. The electoral processes must be transparent and controllable in all its aspects, so that voters can trust the results of the elections. Representatives of every democratic society must therefore minimize such acts that can lead to questioning the vote and the results of the elections. The main aim of our article is to analyze the various types of electoral malpractice and fraud that occur at the polling stations. Based on quantitative and qualitative research, we have created a set of issues that can be identified in the process of election administration at the level of electoral districts. Part of the article is also a set of proposals which are amendments to legal and subordinate standards and will lead to a higher electoral integrity in the Czech Republic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article is focused on assessment of the model of competency to lead others for graduates of the Faculty of Military Leadership of the University of Defence. This competency to handle the initial demands of a command post, to which graduates of the Faculty of Military Leadership may be enrolled immediately after their studies. The main aim of the research was to define, structure and evaluate the model of competency to lead others for the graduates of the Faculty of Military Leadership based on the experiences of the commanders which serves in the Army of the Czech Republic. Questionnaire survey of own construction for two groups of respondents (young commanders and their closest superiors) was used to obtain the data. Those data were evaluated by parametric and nonparametric statistical analy-sis. The results of the analysis showed that abilities defined in the model of competency are used in daily military life by addressed commanders.

In the present article, we reflect on the victimization survey conducted as part of the research project BRIZOLIT (Security Risks in Socially Excluded Localities). Our main focus is on the methodological, epistemological and ethical problems which appeared during the survey among inhabitants of the so-called socially excluded localities in April — August 2016. More specifically, we will deal with the issues related to the construction of our research object, interviewing strategies, as well as problems of validity of survey data with regard to the complex processes of victimization in socially excluded localities. In other words, we will try to answer three rather basic questions: „Who did we research? How did we do it? How did we record our findings?“ and hope to provide clues for future researchers facing similar problems.

This article aims to incorporate prosodic features into the transcribed text, originated by a Standard Chinese speaker. Subsequently, the text will be used as a basis for the thorough analysis for which purposes the Chinese actress Yang Zi, born in Beijing, was chosen. In the research, I focus on speech speed to determine the average length of sentences, colas, and segments. Then I deal with the linear structure of the colas and the structure of the segments. The detailed quantitative analysis results show that the analysed sample consists of 118 sentences, 386 colas, 913 segments, 2237 words, and 3166 syllables. The most frequent sentences consist of 2 cola, while colas made of one segment are the most frequent ones. Within the segments, the most productive is the acronymic rhythmical sequence. The speed of speech in default analysed recording is 252,3 syllables per minute. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study deals with the prosodic level of the language. The research aims to answer the fundamental questions of the character of the Chinese text. It is based on the extensive lifelong work of prof. PhDr. Oldřich Švarný, CSc. (1920–2011), who consistently devoted himself to the issue of Chinese prosodic features and created an outstanding work within the context of world sinology. The scope and nature of the source material, which is prosodically transcribed according to the rules of Oldřich Švarný, was chosen to achieve objective and accurate results of quantitative analysis, in which the attention on particular prosodic phenomena is focused. Specifically, a detailed analysis is dedicated to linear segmentation, consisting of evaluating the number and average lengths of smaller sentence units, such as colas, segments, and syllables. Music ensembles - bands, brass bands, or orchestras - are divided by genres by the public. But in the background of their success, fame and reproduction stands not only composing and musical art. We need to consider the amount of organisational, legal, managerial, and production work. This study focuses on these less discussed aspects in the functioning of several musical ensembles in the Czech Republic. Through qualitative questioning, the study aims to map current managerial and production management modus operandi as well as lay the foundation to further quantitative research. Bibliographic databases have recently received increased attention from researchers which explore the possibilities of data-driven research based on bibliographical data . This paper briefly overviews the current state of digital literary studies and tries to summarize the development and current situation of data-driven research on bibliographical databases which led to the emergence of so-called bibliographical data science . The specific problems of quantitative research on bibliographical data both from the methodological as well as technical point of view are discussed in more detail and intensive dialogue between data curators and data researchers is advocated for . The paper reflects on a freely accessible program to annote, analyze and visualize literary texts called CATMA, which is developed by the narratological team led by Jan Christoph Meister in Hamburg, which follows the tradition of the German research into the area of digital or quantitative narratology. The design of the annotation program develops the conceptual apparatus of classical narratology and these (e.g. Genettian types of anisochrony) are implemented in digitally supported analysis and interpretation of semantics in the genre of short story. Furthermore, annotation and visualization do not replace quantitative analysis, what they do is prepare for a literary scientist a kind of a cognitive map which may help them notice potentially interesting (ir)regularities of texture of the work (grammatical, morphological, semantic features). The CATMA tool thus opens possibilities not only for quantitative study of authors'corpora but also for analysis of motifs which are in the sense of narrative semantics of fictitious worlds as formulated by Lubomír Doležel intentionally expressed by means of distribution of linguistic signs. The paper is an attempt at a quantitative corpus related approach to the subject of multilingualism in contemporary Czech poetry (published both in books and on literary servers). The authors of the paper examine the frequency and distribution of foreign (i.e., non-Czech) lexical units, raising questions about the forms and functions of individual lexemes. Three selected poets (T. Kafka, M. Šanda, M. Torčík) are then analyzed more in-depth. The paper is also a report about a currently developed database - The Corpus of Contemporary Czech Poetry - and possibilities of using it. It suggests how beneficial the quantitative data analysis in the first phase of linguistically oriented literary research can be, pointing to the necessity of interconnecting the quantitative and qualitative approaches. It is only the researcher's interpretative competence that can define the boundaries of the research field and the significance of its elements. Purpose - The paper is focused on the problems of sound carriers' preservation among museums of the Czech Republic. This theme was not enough examined yet. In the Czech Republic, it stands in the background of public interests. The paper is a research study. Design/Methodology/Approach - The research uses quantitative methodology. The survey was carried out by using the questionnaire. The recoverability of the 1078 institutions was 28%. Results - The most common sound carriers among museums are optical carriers. But there are also other types and exotic ones in the collections. These are often near their physical lifespan end. There are not all sound collections which were fully processed and because of that, there are not many details about them. Digitization stands for the key theme both the research and the paper. Nowadays, it is a mean of sound preservation, but it is also a process which is problem abundant. In case the collection is not processed, it is not possible to think about its digitization. In case it is processed, the digitization could not be carried out due to lack of funds or personnel. Originality/Value - The paper is focused on peripheral theme which was not examined in the past sufficiently. Based on the research of sound carriers among museums of Czech Republic, there are problems identified. De facto states have moved from a periphery to the center of academic attention during the last two decades. The objective of the paper is an identification of characteristic development trends within a set of these non-state territorial political units, and it investigates the relation between the degree of their internal sovereignty and their level of partial international recognition. The quantitative method for assessment of the degree of internal sovereignty is based on a set of seven indicators and an aggregate "indicator of internal sovereignty". The set of de facto states is composed of 26 entities whose development is analyzed from 2001 to 2018. The results confirmed a relationship between the development of world politics and the development trends within the set of de facto states, a significant influence of partial international recognition on the level of internal sovereignty, and a close relation between security and political indicators of sovereignty. This paper focuses on fundamental historical source important for recognition of judicial praxis in the early modern era: Books of Sentences of Appeal Court in Prag. This court was established in 1548 and since that year were the sentences taped down to books of sentences in two language rows: czech and german. The study analyzes both the outside of the source (font, language, graphical form of the decision) and, above all, its internal structure. At the same time, some particular requirements (which included each decision) are identified, and then the possibilities of their interpretation in individual and in context are presented. The paper is based on the knowledge of dozens of ortel books across the 250 year period for which the study is written. Its contribution lies mainly in describing some general elements that touch this source. A contribution with a regional focus will concentrate its attention on the West Bohemian borderland, specifically the Karlovy Vary Region. For centuries, it was largely shaped by the German-speaking population. The authors will focus here on the question of historical consciousness of the Karlovy Vary Region current residents, when it comes to the German past of the region in which they live. Using a quantitative survey and visualisation by means of comparative mental maps of the Gould and Lynch type, they examine the views of and attitudes to selected historical milestones in Czech-German relations, historical consciousness of the existence of the German population and its effect in the region under study and, last but not least, the relationship to the current German ethnic minority.

The paper deals with the growth and phenotypic characteristics of Norway spruce in three separate core zones of the Gene Conservation Unit (GCU) No. G102-1 Trčkov-Šerlišský kotel-Vrchmezí in the Orlické hory/Eagle Mts. at the Czech-Polish border. The research was carried out in representative stands of all three parts of the GCU, which were selected in the direction from their core towards the periphery and outside the border. In total, 15 stands were evaluated. In each stand, dendrometric measurements and phenotypic surveys were performed on representative sets of sample trees. Tree growth characteristics reached their maximum in the core zones of all three parts of GCU, but also in the exceptionally high-quality stand T2.1, whose above-average parameters influenced the results of analyzes. Another stands, V2 and T2, situated relatively close to the core zones, were found of rather average quality according to cluster analysis, however. In the statistical analysis, the stands V3.1, V3, V3.2 and T2.1 proved to be most outlying, because of their lower (V3.1, V3) or exceptionally high (T2.1, V3.2) production and quality. In summary, according to the best growth parameters of trees, three parts of GCU can be sorted in descending order as follows: Trčkov, Vrchmezí, Šerlišský kotel. It can be concluded that the most valuable groups of trees are located in the central parts of GCU, and thus represent an important genetic resource to be protected from negative effects of a gene flow from surrounding lower quality inferior stands. Results of this study could be used for an objectification of the method of incorporation the stands into GCU complexes. Purpose – The aim of the survey which is presented in this research study, was to obtain information on senior literacy competences in the field of information literacy and their interest in learning on various topics related to Internet and ICT work. The main research question was focused on finding the topics in which seniors want to be educated. Design/Methodology/Approach – This research is a component of the empirical part of the dissertation thesis and is based on already published results of qualitative research that examined the needs of seniors in the work with the Internet. The obtained results were subsequently verified on the level of generalizability by means of quantitative research. The questionnaire survey obtained more than 750 responses. The research design was set to the parameters of applied research and quantitative research was one of its sections. Results – Research has shown that seniors are generally very interested in learning through the libraries network. Topics that are interesting to them are more often related to content (such as editing photos) than to using software and using e-mail, text editors, etc. At the same time, elderly people declare a relatively high degree of competence in everyday internet activities and technology. Originality/Value – Due to the fact that the process of education of seniors in libraries is not dealt with in a general and systematic manner and each library prepares lessons itself, ten topics that emerged from the research were didactically transformed into educational lessons. The article aims to identify which coping strategies (positive, neutral, negative) socially excluded persons use. Social exclusion is a multidimensional issue that gravely puts a strain on a person and lowers their quality of life. In the Czech Republic, social exclusion also has a significant ethnic dimension since the Romani make up approximately 80% of the socially excluded persons. The article determines how selected socio-demographic variables (gender, age, education) can influence coping strategies (either emotion-focused or problem-focused coping), which strive to manage external and internal factors that stressed persons perceive as threatening their resources. The quantitative research sample consists of socially excluded persons that live in České Budějovice (N=90) between the ages 18 and 55 (meaning the adult population). The respondents were randomly selected disregarding their ethnicity. The questionnaires were anonymously distributed with informed consent during spring 2018. The research method of this study is based on the SVG 78 standardized questionnaire and includes the mapping of 78 items focusing on behavior in various challenging situations. The questionnaire was assembled as a Likert scale for the respondents to fill out. The data was subsequently processed and categorized into 13 areas representing either negative (tendency to flee, blaming oneself for the situation, or perseverance), neutral (seeking social support, avoiding the issue), or positive coping strategies (situation control, reaction control, undervaluation, etc.). These areas were then statistically tested in the SPSS program by using double-choice t-tests and ANOVA. The p-value was set to 95%. The statistical analysis of the data did not confirm a relevant relation between coping strategies and the gender of the respondents. According to the results, there is a certain connection between gender and the choice of coping strategies, in which female respondents tend to make use of emotion-focused coping strategies. There was some degree of correlation between the choice of coping strategies and age of the respondents. The data showed that negative coping strategies are frequently used by younger respondents - strategies that can make persons using them inflexible and can even lead to psychological disorders. According to the data, there is no relevant connection between coping strategies and the education level. These results are very interesting since previous research stated that persons with lower education levels tend to use negative coping strategies more often than persons with higher education levels. Another interesting result is the data on which coping strategies are used the most frequently by socially excluded individuals. The respondents of this study chose to most often use neutral coping strategies such as social support. The assumption at the start of the research was that such persons would rather use negative coping strategies. The article concludes that the issue of coping strategies and socially excluded persons needs to be further explored and expanded by more factors that could influence the use of certain coping strategies. Who are initiators of local referendas in the Czech Republic? This topic is not deeply examined in the Czech space. Most of the research are focused on legislative rules and their using or on quantitative analysis, where and when the referendas were held and if they were successful. However, there is one important thing which is not explained. There is missing explanation, which is focused on initiation of referenda and actors who participate in this process. The answer is very important, because as we can see from different kind of research – the political actor – is very often the most important part of the process. Goals. The aim of the paper is to support the process of differentiation of the victims affected by bullying in the workplace as based on behavioral and subjective indicators of workplace as same as to examine the characteristics of the mental state of the bullied employees with the support of factual significance in individual subgroups. Sample and method. The survey sample consisted of 7,103 employees, aged 18-68 (26.26% men and 73.74% women, M = 42, SD = 11.03). The variables were recorded using the Czech version of the revised Negative Acts Questionnaire (NAQ-R) and the Structure and Dynamics of Subjective States (SUPSO) including the anamnestic questionnaire. Statistical analysis. Using the Statistica 12 program, the descriptive values, t-tests, including two vectors of the average values of the Hotelling test were carried out. The effect size (Cohen' s d) were calculated using the formula from the basic numerical characteristics. Results. The results of the survey showed that bullying at the workplace is related with psychological well-being, activity, impulsiveness, tension, depression, anxiety and depression in the defined subgroups of bullied employees. Limitations. The major limitations of the study include the methodological limitations of the questionnaire. The questionnaire NAQ-R is also associated with limited comparability of the empirical findings concerning the prevalence of workplace bullying in different countries, due to the cultural, social, organizational and other specifics of the already realized studies. Also, choosing the local SUPSO method can open the question of comparability. The limit of research is also non-representativeness of selected sample of workers, as well as the unequal representation of men and women or the disparity between the state, non-profit and private sector. In the present article, we reflect on the victimization survey conducted as part of the research project BRIZOLIT (Security Risks in Socially Excluded Localities). Our main focus is on the methodological, epistemological and ethical problems which appeared during the survey among inhabitants of the so-called socially excluded localities in April - August 2016. More specifically, we will deal with the issues related to the construction of our research object, interviewing strategies, as well as problems of validity of survey data with regard to the complex processes of victimization in socially excluded localities. In other words, we will try to answer three rather basic questions: "Who did we research? How did we do it? Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are among the most severe disorders of mental health in children and their prevalence in the society is increasing. The fundamental symptoms of ASD are defi cits in communication and social behavior, restricted interests or difficulties in the adaptation to the unknown environment. Th e daily routine activities in the life of families with children with ASD thus become challenging in many aspects. Visits to the doctor’s office can be exceptionally stressful for children with ASD, but also for their parents and the medical stuff . Our article summarizes the trends in providing the healthcare to children with ASD in the Czech Republic and abroad. These trends served as the basis for conducting a quantitative research with 474 participating parents. Our major fi ndings are that parents with children with ASD visit doctors more oft en than other parents, they are less satisfi ed with the provided care and, in general, they are more stressed by all kind of visits to the doctor’s office. In this article, we deal with the topic ofattitudes towards the Roma minority expressed byprimary and secondary school teachers. We present the findings of our research carried out in 2014–2015.First, we introduce the basic theoretical concepts behind the term “multiculturalism” as well as the broadterm “Roma identity”. We then describe our methodology and research techniques. In the central part ofour paper, we focus our interpretation on the specificways teachers perceive the Roma minority, such as theascription of characteristics or traits. Their perceptionis usually influenced by personal experience with Romastudents. We presume that the teachers’ attitudes caninfluence the attitudes of their students. We will alsoshow that their negative approach towards the Romacan be transferred onto the students in the form ofmisrepresentations and stereotyping.
