It can be considered important that members of scientific disciplines, including sociologists, have a reflection on their work and their research activities. Methodology as one aspect of these activities is a set of rules on the use of different research methods and techniques. The author of this dissertation started from the assumption that it is possible to identify patterns of use of different methodological approaches in sociology and that some broader context is needed to explain their occurrence. Regarding the theoretical framework of this dissertation, concepts from the sociology of science and knowledge and concepts from social theory about reflexivity were used to explain the research subject. Theoretical concepts from the sociology of knowledge and the sociology of science were used to explain and define the research subject in this dissertation. Also, concepts from these disciplines were used to explain what it means for a sociological community to have a scientific tradition that depends on the broader social context that needs to be explained. As for the concepts from the sociological theory of reflexivity, they were used to explain why it was important to conduct the research about the topic from this dissertation and which factors needed to be taken into account when explaining it. The main subject of this dissertation can be described as observing the changes in the methodological characteristics of research papers in Croatian sociology from the 1960s to the present time. Another subject of this dissertation was to explain the connection between the observed changes in the methodology of the analyzed research papers and the socio – political context in which these changes took place. To obtain a broader picture of the investigated problem, methods from two methodological approaches were used. The first method was a quantitative analysis of the content of the observed scientific papers and on this basis, an insight into the characteristics of the methodological characteristics of these papers was obtained. A total of 2526 papers were analyzed, of which 702 were estimated to be primarily sociological papers. For the second method, semi – structured interviews were conducted with a group of sociologists employed by research institutions. A total of 17 participants from 8 different scientific research institutions positioned in Zagreb, Osijek, and Zadar participated in the interviews. The discussion in the interviews was about the socio – political context in which the analysed papers were published. Specifically, five thematic blocks were represented in the interviews: (1) the state of sociology during the observed period; (2) the socio – political context during the 1990s, which could have influenced the development of sociology; (3) discussion about the results obtained in this dissertation; (4) discussion about the implications of the results; (5) and discussion about the guidelines for the future development of sociology. The research confirmed that there were changes in the methodological features of the papers. In the observed period, there was an increase in the complexity of the methodology used in Croatian sociology. Also, the descriptions of the used methodology were becoming more detailed. This means that in the observed period, more and more different methodological approaches and statistical tests began to be used. Both quantitative and qualitative solutions to research problems began to be part of the methodology used in the papers. Also, the authors of the research papers have progressed from the use of primarily descriptive statistics on their data and began to use different tests from the corpus of bivariate and multivariate statistics. Regarding the progress on the detail of the methodological descriptions, the authors of the research papers began to provide more and more new pieces of information about the procedures they used in their research. Based on this finding, the first hypothesis from this dissertation was confirmed. In the second part of the research, four potential factors that can serve to describe the socio – political context were identified and explained. These factors are political changes as the main factor; institutional changes; generational changes; and international influences on the development of sociology in this area. Based on the results it can be concluded that identified socio – political factors may have had an impact on the increased number of research papers and the greater thematic diversity of these papers during the observed period. Also, it is necessary to conclude that no completely clear link was found between these factors and the development of more complex methodologies in the observed papers. These results only partially support the second hypothesis. It can be considered that all the results from this dissertation represent a fruitful space for further research and discussions on this or similar topics.

Analizom sadržaja je uočen jako mali broj radova usmjerenih k teorijskim definicijama spola i roda te pitanju reprodukcije, dok se najčešće piše o temama koje se vežu uz tržište rada, majčinstvo, očinstvo i rad u kući, zatim pitanja seksualnosti, transrodnosti i queer identiteta te feminizma, feminističke kritike znanosti i postmodernizma, "Sex" and "gender" are still perceived as synonyms, but there are clear distinctions between them, so unlike gender, which refers to the biological characteristics we are born with, gender represents social, cultural and historical differences and roles and expectations which society assigns to women and men. One of the most interesting topics for sociology is gender inequality, by analyzing this historical relationship, it is understood that men and women have always been unequal, against women to whom in addition to their subordinate position, were also assigned the private sphere and the care of children and the household. Although we can say that we are still a society with patriarchal values, Croatia began its journey towards social equality in parallel with the beginning of negotiations for entry into the European union, passing various laws on gender equality and combating discrimination, as well as establishing the Office for Gender Equality of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and Ombudsperson for gender equality. Using the research methods of bibliometric analysis and content analysis, the representation of articles in scientific journals is considered in relation to the year of publication, but thematic areas are also investigated, in relation to the areas dealt with in the sociology of sex and gender. A total of 93 articles or 4% of all published works were analyzed in the time period of two decades of publishing, i.e. from 2001.-2021. years. The analysis of the content revealed a very small number of works focused on theoretical definitions of sex and gender and the issue of reproduction, while most often it is written about topics related to the labor market, motherhood, fatherhood and work at home, then issues of sexuality, transgender and queer identity, and feminism, feminist critiques of science and postmodernism

This paper describes Croatian translations of Beatrix Potter's works based on bibliographic and peritextual data and provides a comparative analysis of characters' names and two segments of the source text and its translations focusing on the selected tale. Seven different Potter's books including 27 different stories among themselves have been published in Croatian. There are multiple translations of six stories, four of which have two, and two have three translations. The comparative textual analysis focuses on Croatian translations of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which is not only the most popular Potter's tale, but also the most frequently published in Croatian, translated three times. The analysis shows that the translations of characters' names are mostly domesticated and traceable in retranslations and that there are narrative-semantic shifts in the target texts in comparison with the source text. CONTEXTUAL analysis , *LOCAL history , *CONTENT analysis , *GRAPHIC design , *HISTORICAL analysis - Abstract
Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to present appraisal models of visual material printed in the newspapers. Furthermore, the aim is to analyse aspects of its description and reformatting in the context of heritage institutions. Methodology. The research presented in this paper was conducted on the sample of Jastrebarske novine (1964-1991) and based on the analysis of historical and contemporary contexts of the newspaper's creation and use. In addition, a quantitative and qualitative content analysis was conducted on the same sample. Findings. Visual material and elements of graphic design in the newspapers are important from the perspective of their content and are often inseparable from the textual parts of the articles. The societal and political discourses of the visual material printed in Jastrebarske novine is of less importance compared to their significance as the resources for better comprehension of local history and everyday life. When reformatting newspapers in which visual contributions are valued as significant, it is necessary to take into consideration the visual elements. Originality. This paper validates the need to appraise individual newspapers in their historical and contemporary context and from the perspective of their visual material. Moreover, the reformatting methods are examined, and emphasis put on the importance of inductive and analytical approach during conversion to other media. According to our current knowledge, this paper for the first time presents a content analysis of visual material in the newspapers based on a contextual analysis of a local newspaper and from the perspective of reformatting policies and practices. In today's modern shipping business environment, there is a shift from traditional to digital marketing. Social media has the most significant potential for companies to reach consumers; thus, this paper aims to discover the intensity and content of the marketing activities of shipping companies through social media. Two different types of companies, the container and multi-purpose ones, are the objects of research, primarily analyzed based on the number of followers, posts, likes, comments, and shares on social media. The results show the highest intensity of Facebook usage for shipping companies. It was also discovered that shipping companies actively use Facebook, and this form of online representation is considered more precise regarding brand awareness and public engagement. The content analysis revealed that shipping companies have no intention of selling services using social media. Namely, there are limited network-building or customer relationship efforts, but activities in Corporate Social Responsibility activities, Employee Brand Management, and Sustainability increase. The paper revealed that shipping companies use digital marketing toward the internal public and employees, increasing marketing and human resource management activities. This paper opens up the possibilities of a more significant application of marketing in the shipping industry, bearing in mind the trends of digitization of maritime operational processes and supply chains.

ELECTRONIC books , *ACADEMIC libraries , *COVID-19 pandemic , *COMPARATIVE method , *LIBRARY science , *CONTENT analysis - Abstract
Purpose. This paper aims to research and analyse data about acquisition policies of Croatian academic libraries in respect to e-books, librarians' satisfaction regarding databases and e-book suppliers, problems they encounter, and the impact of COVID-19 pandemics on acquisition and lending policies. An additional aim is to clarify the reasons of slow integrations of e-books into collections of academic libraries. Approach/methodology/design. A questionnaire survey was conducted using the LimeSurvey application. The questionnaire was designed at the Universities of Boras and Gothenburg and used for the research of e-book impact at Swedish publishing, bookselling and librarianship. The same questionnaire was also used in Lithvania and finally in Croatia. A quantitative analysis of the results was performed, while in their interpretation a comparative method was used to compare the results of the research with the content analyses of available recent literature. Findings. Croatian academic libraries, with one single exception, do not purchase e-books. However, they have experience in e-book use and lending, either through database subscriptions or through using open access contents. As purchase for permanent ownership is the dominant or important model in comparable markets, the possible causes of such a difference are analysed in the conclusion. Research limitations/implications. Since only one academic library purchases e-books for permanent ownership, the survey results regarding acquisition policies are not highly representative. Originality/value. This is the first paper that investigates the issue of integration of e-book in the collections of Croatian academic libraries. Among the most important contributions are the guidelines for the model of an ideal e-book lending system (e.g. one platform for all books, removal of DRM restrictions, etc.) from librarians' point of view, and final recommendations for a more functional system of e-book acquisition and lending models based on an analysis of recent literature overview and comparable foreign experiences. TAGS (Metadata) , *LIBRARY catalogs , *SUBJECT headings , *LITERARY research , *SOCIAL impact , *LINGUISTIC analysis , *ONLINE library catalogs - Abstract
Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to present a research concerning user tagging of literary texts. The research was conducted with the aim to determine the peculiarities of the folksonomic approach to literature tagging and thematic informativity of user tags assigned to literary works of art, and to compare them with the subject heading terms from library catalogs and present the considerable potential of folksonomy in improving the traditional approach to constructing and assigning subject headings for works of fiction. Approach/methodology/design. The first section of the paper presents the basic theoretical elements of content analysis from the viewport of librarian classification, subject analysis and user tagging. The second section depicts the research results of the user tags, conducted in two phases - first, the user tag analysis on a linguistic, functional and semantic levels and then the comparison of the tags to subject headings collected from the online library catalogues. Results. The research has revealed that user tags possess a greater thematic informativity than subject headings assigned by experts and as such may serve as a good foundation for the improvement of traditional systems for content analysis of literary works. Research limitations. The research part of the paper was conducted on the author's selection of literary works and the collection of corpora of tags from the online catalogues of the National and University Library in Zagreb, the Zagreb City Library, the Library of Congress in Washington DC and the "LibraryThing" network system. Practical implications. The research can serve as an initial step for further studies of content analysis of literary works in library systems, and as a first step towards their improvement in order to provide the best possible search results for literary and artistic texts. Social implications. The results of the research imply the possibility of involving a nonlibrarian reading community and their direct contribution to the development of library systems. Originality. The paper presents a research that, for the first time in one place, shows a comparison of user tags for the prose, dramatic and poetic literary works of art with the subject headings from library catalogs. LIBRARY administration , *SOCIAL distancing , *CONTENT analysis , *COVID-19 , *SOCIAL impact , *PUBLIC libraries - Abstract
Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to present impact management and library management examples of best practices in Zagreb City Libraries during 2020, especially during full closures due to the epidemic. Approach/methodology. Authors present an overview of the library services that were organized continuously all the time and some new ones that were introduced and implemented in order to satisfy various social, cultural, educational, and even psychological needs of their users. The abovementioned services were analyzed and compared to library services implemented on the national and international levels. The authors have also presented their example of best practice in creating high-impact communication and gave an overview of results of quantitative and content analysis of e-mail communication with users and all press releases. Findings. The comparison of library services that were organized continuously and the new ones with library services implemented on national and international levels have shown a high level of compatibility and consistency, while the results of quantitative and content analysis of communication with users and all press releases confirm reasonableness of the used model of impact management and high-impact communication. Practical implications. Practical implications of the presented impact management and library management examples of best practice and results are immense for all public libraries in Croatia. Social implications. The impact of COVID-19 on library management is unprecedented, causing closure of all libraries and organization of services under strict preventive measures and social distancing. The management of the Zagreb City Libraries was even more aggravated due to an earthquake that hit Zagreb in March and the floods that occurred in July. This paper supports claims that libraries have always promptly reacted to various challenges. Originality/value. The examples of best practices used in impact management and high-impact communication, together with an overview of library services, present a valuable contribution to a related overview on the national level and for further discussion. Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the presence of academic libraries at the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek on the social network Facebook, and to analyze their activity. A quantitative and qualitative analysis of the seven academic libraries' posts that have their own Facebook pages was carried out to determine which content on the sites is most popular and how much Facebook can help libraries to promote their activities and establish better communication with users. Approach/methodology/design. By browsing the websites of all University components that have libraries, it was found that 7 out of 15 libraries have their own Facebook pages. By determining the number of „likes" and the number of followers, the popularity of each library Facebook page was estimated. In the next step, the activity of librarians on the Facebook pages was observed by counting published photos, videos, events, and notes. The data on the posts published by the libraries and the reactions of the followers were analyzed in detail quantitatively and qualitatively for the period from January 1st to April 30th 2020. Finally, the most popular posts on library Facebook pages were highlighted. Results. The analysis showed that less than half of the libraries of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek do not have their own Facebook page. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has the largest numbers of „likes" and followers on their page. We have not been able to prove the assumption that the numbers of „likes" and followers of the pages are influenced by the size of the total number of students of a certain faculty, the date of creation of the site, and whether the faculties belong to the social sciences or STEM. The popularity of the Facebook pages, however, depends mostly on the type and content of the posts, the number of photos, videos, and events. The best indicator of popularity is the number of reactions to the posts, the number of comments and shares. According to these indicators, we found that the Facebook page of the library of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is the most popular library Facebook page at the University. Originality/value. The paper brings previously unpublished data on the presence of academic libraries of the University of Osijek on the social network Facebook, the quantitative and qualitative data on their activity, and the overall user acceptance of the posts written by the libraries. The detailed content analysis of the libraries' posts on their Facebook pages can serve as a guide for libraries in strategic planning and identifying the needs of their users, primarily students. LIBRARY catalogs , *SCIENTIFIC knowledge , *FAKE news , *SUBJECT headings , *CONTENT analysis , *PUBLIC libraries - Abstract
Aim. The aim of the paper is to give an overview of the current approaches to the subject analysis of unreliable nonfiction materials in the Croatian public libraries, and to research the potential of the existing subject analysis tools to differentiate between such materials and those that are based on scientific and expert knowledge. Approach/methodology. In this paper, the subject analysis of unreliable nonfiction materials in public libraries is approached in relation to the role of libraries in preventing the spread of false news, disinformation, and pseudoscientific ideas. Subsequently, the characteristics of scientifically unreliable publications are examined, and current approaches to the subject analysis of such materials are illustrated through five publications whose classification classes, subject headings, and annotations were examined by browsing the online catalogues of the public libraries combined into three extensive union catalogues according to their library software: CROLIST, MetelWIN, and ZaKi. Results. The catalogue records of the selected publications reveal that there is no distinction made in the Croatian public libraries between unreliable nonfiction materials and materials based on current scientific paradigms through the classification class numbers, the assigned subject headings, and annotations, which exposes users to possible disinformation when browsing nonfiction materials in both open-stack collections and online. Originality/value. Taking into account the importance of libraries in promoting reliable information and preventing false news, this paper indicates the need to reevaluate the current procedures of the subject analysis of unreliable nonfiction materials whose production has intensified during the last decades and which constitute a portion of the nonfiction collections in public libraries. Even though scientists have been warning about the dangers of the spread of pseudoscientific information for a number of years, and librarians encounter issues related to this topic in the interaction with users on a daily basis, this is the first paper that focuses on subject analysis of such materials in the Croatian public libraries and emphasizes the social responsibility of librarians regarding this issue. Current trends in educational sciences can best be evaluated by assessing the master and doctoral theses defended at the universities. The goal of the present paper was to do a qualitative content analysis of the titles of master theses defended at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Total of 393 master theses defended in the period from 2012 to 2021 were the subject of this analysis. Of these, 287 were defended at the department for teacher education and 106 at the department for preschool education. As expected, most of the studies dealt with early elementary school students and preschool children. Many studies contained the term “development” in its title, and it was referring to all domains from speech to socioemotional and motor development. Several studies examined parental and teachers’ attitudes towards various topics. In relation to the subject, most studies dealt with science education, followed by physical education and language. A number of studies had special education as the main topic, covering issues of teacher competencies, creativity, support to students with developmental disabilities, to the quality of life. Students have studied various relevant topics. In the future, we expect to see an increase in studies covering digital competencies of teachers and evaluation of online education.

The main goal of the paper is to establish to which extent it is justified to label a newly established Croatian party The Bridge (Most) a populist party. In order to answer this question, the paper relies on theoretical, methodological and empirical insights from contemporary literature on populism. The study is based on inclusive approach to populism and accordingly developed categories for content analysis. The analysis only partially confirms the assumption that Most is a populist option. The authors suggest that Most is best described as a combination of centrist populism and an anti-establishment reform party. They suggest that populism research would benefit from distinguishing between anti-elitist and anti-establishment position of parties and politicians. Finally, they argue that the ‘curiosity’ of Most stems primarily from their awkward and paradoxical relationship towards Croatian political elite: Most’s politicians criticise political elite for being incompetent and corrupt, while at the same time advocating alliance with this same elite in order to implement reforms and bring prosperity to Croatian society.
