Taking Luliang County, Qujing City, Yunnan Province as an example, the spatial and temporal distribution data of carbon storage in the study area were obtained through five periods of land use data and carbon density data in 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2020. The carbon stor- age module of GIS and InVEST was used to analyze the characteristics of carbon storage changes in Luliang County in the past 20 years. The re- sults showed that over the 20-year period, the area of cultivated land and forest land had slightly decreased, while the grassland area had de- creased significantly, and the areas of water bodies and construction land had increased significantly, with unused land decreasing noticeably. The overall carbon storage showed a declining trend, especially during the period from 2015 to 2020, which was consistent with changes in land use. There were significant differences in carbon storage changes among different land types, with forest land having the highest average carbon storage, while construction land, waters and unused land had relatively low average carbon storage. The spatial distribution of carbon storage had not changed significantly, high-value areas mainly distributed in forest areas, and low-value areas mainly distributed in construction land and cultivated land concentration areas. In summary, there was a close correlation between land use change and carbon storage change. Factors such as urbanization and reduced cultivated land may lead to a decrease in carbon storage, while measures such as protecting forests and wetlands may help maintain or increase carbon storage.
