In this paper, we propose enhanced fundamental diagrams based on different water film depths by considering the effects of hydroplaning using a physical method. Various factors are calculated to describe the total safe distance headway of main vehicle components. These factors include the driver reaction times, reaction distances, vehicle braking times, and vehicle braking distances corresponding to different water film depths. An excellent match is found between the computed braking distance, the braking time calculated using the proposed numerical model, and the results published in other papers. These calculations are performed to estimate the distance headway and quantitatively analyse the relationships between the speed, density, and water film depth. By using three road-specific parameters estimated by our proposed model, namely, the free-flow speed, jam density, and capacity flow, a link transmission model is developed to analyse the dynamic impact of the water film depth.

Coordinate transformation (CT) theory has shown great potentials in manipulating both time-varying and static fields for different physics ranging from electromagnetism and acoustics to electrostatic and thermal science. Nevertheless, as inhomogeneous and anisotropic materials are required to be realized for the implementation of CT-based devices, the applicability of this method is restricted due to difficulties in the fabrication process. In this paper, based on transformation electrostatic (TE) methodology, the design principle of an arbitrary shape dc electric concentrator is established which yields the enhancement of static electric fields in a predefined region with only one homogeneous conductivity, named as dc null medium (DNM). It is shown that one constant DNM is sufficient for localizing steady electric current in any arbitrary shape region, which in turn obviates the tedious mathematical calculations that conventional methods suffer from. In other words, the same DNM can be used for different concentrators regardless of their cross-section geometries, which makes the presented approach suitable for scenarios where reconfigurability is of utmost importance. Several numerical simulations are performed in order to demonstrate the capability of the proposed dc electric concentrator in localizing steady electric fields into the desired region. Moreover, by utilizing the analogy between electrically conducting materials and resistor networks, the attained DNM is realized with low-cost resistors and then exploited for fabricating a square shape dc electric concentrator on a printed circuit board (PCB). It is demonstrated that the measurement results agree well with the theoretical predictions and numerical simulations, which corroborate the effectiveness of the propounded method. The presented idea of this paper could find applications in scenarios where highly confined electric fields/currents are of critical importance such as electronic skin devices and electrical impedance tomography.

E-mail has become the main carrier of spreading malicious software and been widely used for phishing, even high-level persistent threats. The e-mail accounts with high social reputation are primary targets to be attacked and utilized by attackers, suffering a lot of probing attacks for a long time. In this paper, in order to understand the probing pattern of the e-mail account attacks, we analyse the log of email account probing captured in the campus network based on graph mining. By analysing characteristics of the dataset in different dimensions, we find a kind of e-mail account probing attack and give it a new definition. Based on the analysis results, its probing pattern is figured out. From the point of probing groups and individuals, we find definitely opposite characteristics of the attack. Owing to the probing pattern and its characteristics, attacks can escape from the detection of security devices, which has a harmful effect on e-mail users and administrators. The analysis results of this paper provide support for the detection and defence of such distributed attacks.

Biological systems are spatially organized. This microscopic heterogeneity has been shown to produce emergent complex behaviors such as bistability. Even though the connection between spatiality and dynamic response is essential to understand biological output, its robustness and extent has not been sufficiently explored. This work focuses on a previously described system which is composed of two monostable modules acting on different cellular compartments and sharing species through linear shuttling reactions. One of the two main purposes of this paper is to quantify the frequency of occurrence of bistability throughout the parameter space and to identify which parameters and in which value ranges control the emergence and the properties of bistability. We found that a very small fraction of the sampled parameter space produced a bistable response. Most importantly, shuttling parameters were among the most influential ones to control this property. The other goal of this paper is to simplify the same system as much as possible without losing compartment-induced bistability. This procedure provided a simplified model that still connects two monostable systems by a reduced set of linear shuttling reactions that circulates all the species around the two compartments. Bistable systems are one of the main building blocks of more complex behaviors such as oscillations, memory, and digitalization. Therefore, we expect that the proposed minimal system provides insight into how these behaviors can arise from compartmentalization. Fil: Tenenbaum, Debora.
