This work deals with promoting the efficiency of removing the cationic and ionic dyes by new aerogel-carbon nanostructures. For cleaner production the rice straw-pulping black liquors, which regards serious environmental risk during routine disposing, is used in preparing the aerogel precursors. These aerogels (AGBs) depend on using pulping black liquor in hybrid with resorcinol and the less carcinogenic formaldehyde butyraldehyde. Black liquors from five pulping processes are used, Elemental, thermogravimetric (TGA and DTG), and FTIR-ATR analyses are used to characterize the carbon precursors. While their adsorption behavior toward cationic and anionic dyes are accessed via iodine-value, adsorption capacity and kinetic models, textural characterization, and SEM. The TGA measurements reveal that AGBs from BLs of neutral sulfite and soda-borohydride pulping reagents have higher activation and degradation energies than other aerogels. In terms of cationic and anionic dyes adsorption as well as textural characterization, the AGB-CNSs surpass that made from BLs. The discarded KOH/NH 4 OH black liquor is used to synthesize the best aerogel precursor for producing cationic methylene blue dye (MB) adsorbent, where it provides an adsorption capacity 242.1 mg/g. The maximum anionic brilliant blue dye (BB) adsorption capacity, 162.6 mg/g, is noticed by Kraft BL-aerogel-CNSs. These finding data overcome the literature carbon adsorbents based on lignin precursors. All examined CNSs toward MB dye follow the Langmuir adsorption equilibrium; while primarily the Freundlich model for BB dye. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model well fits the adsorption kinetics of investigated AGB-CNSs. Drainage and deforestation of tropical peat swamp forests (PSF) in Southeast Asia cause carbon emissions and biodiversity loss of global concern. Restoration efforts to mitigate these impacts usually involve peatland rewetting by blocking canals. However, there have been no studies to date of the optimal rewetting approach that will reduce carbon emission whilst also promoting PSF regeneration. Here we present results of a large-scale restoration trial in Sumatra (Indonesia), monitored for 7.5 years. Water levels in a former plantation were raised over an area of 4800 ha by constructing 257 compacted peat dams in canals. We find peat surface subsidence rates in the rewetted restoration area and adjoining PSF to be halved where water tables were raised from ~ - 0.6 m to ~ - 0.3 m, demonstrating the success of rewetting in reducing carbon emission. A total of 57 native PSF tree species were found to spontaneously grow in the most rewetted conditions and in high densities, indicating that forest regrowth is underway. Based on our findings we propose that an effective PSF restoration strategy should follow stepwise rewetting to achieve substantial carbon emission reduction alongside unassisted regrowth of PSF, thereby enabling the peat, forest and canal vegetation to establish a new nature-based ecosystem balance., (© 2024. Compared with conventional electrochemical supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries, the novel amorphous cellulose nanofibre (ACF) supercapacitor demonstrates superior electric storage capacity with a high-power density, owing to its fast-charging capability and high-voltage performance. This study unveils introduces an ACF supercapacitor characterised by a substantial energy density. This is achieved by integrating a singular layer of pseudo-solid water molecules (electrical resistivity of 1.11 × 10 8  Ω cm) with cellulose nanofibers (CNFs), establishing forming an electric double layer at the electrode interface. The enhanced energy storage in these high-energy density capacitors (8.55 J/m 2 ) is explicated through the polarisation of protons and lone pair electrons on oxygen atoms during water electrolysis, commencing at 1.23 V. Improvements in energy density are attainable through CNF density enhancements and charging-current optimisation. This work demonstrated enhanced adsorption capabilities of lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) synthesized via a straightforward hydrotropic method compared to pristine lignin (PL) powder for removing methylene blue dye from aqueous solutions. Kraft lignin was used as a precursor and p-toluenesulfonic acid as the hydrotrope to produce spherical LNPs with ~ 200 nm diameter. Extensive characterization by SEM, AFM, DLS, zeta potential, and BET verified successful fabrication of microporous LNPs with fourfold higher specific surface area (14.9 m 2 /g) compared to PL (3.4 m 2 /g). Significantly reduced particle agglomeration and rearranged surface chemistry (zeta potential of -13.3 mV) arising from the self-assembly of lignin fractions under hydrotropic conditions enabled the application of LNPs and superior adsorbents compared to PL. Batch adsorption experiments exhibited up to 14 times higher methylene blue removal capacity, from 20.74 for PL to 127.91 mg/g for LNPs, and ultrafast equilibrium uptake within 3 min for LNPs compared to 10 min for PL. Kinetic modeling based on pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equations revealed chemisorption as the predominant mechanism, with a rate constant of 0.032825 g/mg·h for LNPs-over an order of magnitude higher than PL (0.07125 g/mg·h). Isotherm modeling indicated Langmuir monolayer adsorption behavior on relatively uniform lignin surface functional groups. The substantially augmented adsorption performance of LNPs arose from the increased surface area and abundance of surface functional groups, providing greater accessibility of chemically active binding sites for rapid dye uptake. Overall, this work demonstrates that tailoring lignin nanoparticle structure and surface chemistry via scalable hydrotropic synthesis is a simple and sustainable approach for producing highly efficient lignin-based nano-adsorbents for organic dye removal from industrial wastewater., (© 2024. The efficient dirubidium cobalt bis(dihydrogendiphosphate) dihydrate compound is successfully synthesized in a solution and used as a reactive sorbent for the CO 2 and CH 4 gases adsorption and storage. A crystal of this Rb 2 Co(H 2 P 2 O 7 ) 2 ·2H 2 O compound has been isolated and characterized by single X-ray diffraction analysis and was found to crystallize in the triclinic system ( P 1 ¯ ) with the cell parameters (Å): 6.980(1), 7.370(1), 7.816(1), 81.74(1), 70.35(1), 86.34(1); V = 374.68(9) Å3, Z = 2. The crystal-packing consists of a three-dimensional framework made upon corners and edges sharing of [RbO 7 ], [H 2 P 2 O 7 ] and [CoO 6 ] entities, furthermore linked by a network of H-bonds. The UV-Vis spectroscopy revealed usual transitions between the ground state 4T1g and the upper levels 4T2g, 4A2g and 4T1g (P). Moreover, the CO 2 and CH 4 gases sorption measurements were successfully performed at two different temperatures (25 and 45 °C) and various pressures ranging from vacuum to 50 bar. Our results show that rate of CO 2 and CH 4 capturing was 3.10 mmol/g and 2.35 mmol/g at temperature 25 °C and pressure 50 bar, respectively. This compound showed a clear potential for CO 2 /CH 4 adsorption and storage thereby paving the way towards its exploration and adaptation for capturing and collecting carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases from the air, and their conversion into hydrocarbon fuels using existing mature technologies. We have also conducted density functional theory calculations to study the CO 2 and CH 4 adsorption properties of Rb 2 Co(H 2 P 2 O 7 ) 2 ·2H 2 O. Sepiolite is a silicate mineral that improves the fire properties in solid wood when mixed with a water-based coating. The present study was carried out to investigate and evaluate the effects of sepiolite addition to acrylic-latex paint on the pull-off adhesion strength, as an important characteristic of paints and finishes used in the modern furniture industry and historical furniture as well for preservation and restoration of heritage objects. Sepiolite was added at the rate of 10%, and brushed onto plain-sawn beech (Fagus orientalis L.) wood specimens, unimpregnated and impregnated with a 400 ppm silver nano-suspension, which were further thermally modified at 185 °C for 4 h. The results showed that thermal modification had a decreasing effect on the pull-off adhesion strength, primarily as a result of the thermal degradation of cell-wall polymers (mostly hemicelluloses). Still, a decreased wettability as a result of condensation and plasticization of lignin was also partially influential. Based on the obtained results,thermal modification was found to have a significant influence on pull-off adhesion strength. Sepiolite addition had a decreasing effectin all treatments, though the effect was not statistically significant in all treatments. The maximum and minimum decreases due to sepiolite addition were observed in the unimpregnated control (21%) and the thermally-modified NS-impregnated (4%) specimens. Other aspects of the sepiolite addition, and further studies that cover different types of paints and coatings, should be evaluated before coming to a final firm conclusion in this regard., (© 2024. This work deals with providing a green pulping process of rice straw with zero waste discharged, via valorization of its by-product as a promising precursor for production of carbon nanostructures. The carbon nanostructures (BL-CNSs) from rice straw pulping liquors (BLs) are prepared in one step with phosphoric acid activation. The carbon nanostructures (BL-CNSs) from rice straw pulping liquors (BLs) are prepared in one step with phosphoric acid activation. The optimal pulping approach for achieving effective adsorbent (BL-CNSs) of cationic and anionic dyes is recommended from using different BLs precursors resulting from different reagents (alkaline, neutral, and acidic reagents). The carbon precursors are characterized by elemental, thermal (TGA and DTG) and ATR FTIR analyses. While the impact of pulping route on performance of CNSs is evaluated by their adsorption of iodine, cationic dye and anionic dye, as well as ATR-FTIR, textural characterization, and SEM. The data of elemental analysis displayed a high Carbon content ranges from 57.85 to 66.69% suitable for CNSs preparation, while the TGA showed that Sulphur-containing BLs (Kraft, neutral sulfite and acidic sulfite) have higher degradation temperature and activation energies as compared with other BLs. The optimum BL-CNSs adsorbent is prepared from the disposed neutral sulfite black liquor, with the following characteristics: cationic dye adsorption capacity 163.9 mg/g, iodine value 336.9 mg/g and S BET 310.6 m 2 /g. While the Kraft-CNSs provided highest anionic adsorption (70.52 mg/g). The studies of equilibrium and kinetic adsorption of dyes showed that the adsorption equilibrium of all investigated BL-CNSs toward MB follow the Langmuir and mainly Freundlich models for BB adoption. Their adsorption kinetics are a good fit with the pseudo-second-order model. This study was conducted to evaluate the properties of lightweight sandwich panels made from low diameter bamboo particles, Phyllostachys Bambusides collected from Gilan province, Iran, as core layer, combined with thin wall bamboo strips as faces. The effects of three individual variables such as density of core layer (350-550 kg/m 3 ), resin consumption in core layer (7.5-9.5%) and resin consumption in faces (175-275 g/m 2 ) on some important physical, mechanical and thermos-acoustic properties of the panels were investigated. Response surface methodology was used to statistically analyse the results and optimization process. The average values for the mechanical properties of the sandwich panels were obtained as 17.16 MPa, 5669 MPa, 0.02 MPa, 17.60 MPa, 1.83 MPa, 0.03 MPa, and 913.3 MPA for modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, internal bonding, compression strength parallel to face grain, compression strength perpendicular to face grain, shear strength, and screw holding, respectively. Finally, thermal conductivity and noise reduction coefficient of the panels were respectively gained as 0.01 W/mk and 0.31. The results of technical and thermo- acoustic properties of the panels showed that the light weight sandwich panels from bamboo residues would be a suitable and sustainable alternative as an insulation material for sustainable and green construction., (© 2023. The performance of electric double-layer capacitors and lithium-ion batteries deteriorates with increasing humidity. The desirable effect of bound water on the energy-storage properties of physically dry cellulose nanofiber (Na-ACF) supercapacitors with sodium (Na) carboxylate radicals was investigated using infrared and near-infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, alternating current impedance analyses, and first-principles calculations. The storage capacity decreased gradually upon heating to 423 K and reached zero upon exceeding 483 K, accompanied by increasing electrical resistance, forming a distorted semicircle in Nyquist diagram and drawing the phase angle to zero in Bode diagram. This is attributed to the water in the hydration gel bound to the Na + -ions that cross-link the cellulose chains, evaporating as the temperature increases, and finally becoming Na 2 O. The increased band-gap energy from the increase in bound water prevents leakage from the supercapacitor. Although submerged membrane bioreactor (MBR) are widely used in treating municipal wastewater and recovery of potential resources, membrane operational parameters and membrane fouling control remain debated issues. In this study, the treatment of municipal wastewater by MBR at high-biomass sludge (MLSS (g/L) ranging from 5.4 g/L to 16.1 g/L) was assessed at an organic loading rates (OLRs) ranging from 0.86 to 3.7 kg COD/m 3 d. The correlation between trans-membrane pressure and total fouling resistance was thoroughly investigated in this study. According to the findings, greater OLRs of 0.86 to 3.7 kg COD/m 3 d caused a decrease in COD, BOD, and NH 4 -N removal efficiency, and higher OLRs of 3.7 kg COD/m 3 d resulted in a higher increase in total fouling resistance (R t ). The economic study of using the MBR system proved that for a designed flow rate of 20 m 3 /d, the payback period from using the treated wastewater will be 7.98 years, which confirms the economic benefits of using this MBR for treating municipal wastewater. In this study, the oxidation of microcrystalline cellulose using NaIO 4 to yield the corresponding cellulose aldehyde utilized microwave irradiation as a green tool, the obtained cellulosic aldehyde was confirmed through spectral analysis and it has an active site to react with the synthesized uracil acetamide to afford the corresponding arylidene cellulosic MDAU(4), the latter compound which can easily due to presence of active CH=group behind a cyano group react with nitrogen nucleophile's and cyclized with hydrazine hydrate to give pyrazole cellulosic MDPA(5). The spectral analysis of the obtained cellulosic derivatives was confirmed with FT-IR, NMR, and SEM. Additionally, a neutral red uptake analysis has been used to investigate the cytotoxic activity of the cellulosic compounds MDAC(2), MDAU(4), and MDAP(5) against the cancer cells A549 and Caco2. After 48 h, Compound MDAU(4) had a stronger inhibitory effect on the growth of A549 and Caco2, compared to standard values. Then, using QRT-PCR, the appearance sites of the genes -Catenin, c-Myc, Cyclin D1, and MMP7 in A549 cells were examined. By reducing the expression levels of the Wnt signaling cascade genes -Catenin, c-Myc, Cyclin D1, and MMP7 when administered to A549 cells, compound MDAU(4) was shown in this investigation to be a viable candidate compared to lung cancer. Upscaling the utilization of polymer wastes together with the valorization of undesirable waste rice straw (RS) will minimize the environmental impact of waste disposal by traditional tools. This present work assesses the utilization of polyethylene terephthalate wastes in enhancing the production of polyester-(high density polyethylene) HDPE from Rice straw polyol composites. In this respect, the polyester from rice straw polyol in hybrid with glycolysis polyethylene terephthalate wastes (Gly-WPET) was assessed in comparison with that resulted from RS-polyol, using FTIR, non-isothermal analysis, and mechanical tests. The data showed the positive role of Gly-WPET in hybrid with RS-polyol in production polyester with high thermal stability and mechanical properties. It provided an increase in activation energy of degradation, elongation, Young's Modulus, and modulus of toughness from 184.5 to 1201 kJ/mole, from 4.7 to 9.8%, from 47.5 to 66.5 MPa, and from ~ 4.0 to 23 J/m 3 , respectively. This behavior was reflected in the properties of HDPE-polyester polyol (PEPO) composites, especially in improving elongation (from 55.4 to 72%). In this paper, three kinds of micro-nano bamboo powder (MBP) and alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) were added to the polyvinyl alcohol/cellulose nanofiber (PVA/CNF) coating to prepare PVA/CNF/MBP coated paper and PVA/CNF/M-MBP/AKD coated paper. The results showed that MBP improved the oleophobicity of PVA/CNF coating, and the grease resistance grade of PVA/CNF/B-MBP and PVA/CNF/M-MBP coated papers reached the highest level, with a kit number of 12. Among the PVA/CNF/MBP coated papers, the PVA/CNF/M-MBP coated paper has the best hydrophobic properties, with the water contact angle and Cobb value of 74° and 21.3 g/m 2 , respectively. In addition, when the AKD dosage was 0.2% in the PVA/CNF/M-MBP/AKD coating, the kit number of the coated paper was 11, the Cobb value was 15.2 g/m 2 , the water contact angle was 103°, and the tensile strength was found to increase slightly. Therefore, compared with PVA/CNF coated paper, PVA/CNF/M-MBP/AKD coated paper has good strength and excellent hydrophobic and oleophobic properties., (© 2023. The Author(s).)

Paper coating plays an important role in the paper properties, printability and application. The nanocoating is a multifunction layer that provides the paper with unique features. In this work, nanocoating formulas were prepared using a green method and component. The nanocoating formulas were based on biopolymers nanostarch NSt and nanochitosan NCh (NCS) decorated with Egyptian kaolinite Ka doped with zinc nanoparticles NCS@xka/ZnONPs (x represents different ratios) support for multifunctional uses. The nanocoating formulas were characterized using a physiochemical analysis as well as a topographical study. FTIR, XRD, SEM and TEM techniques were used. Additionally, the antimicrobial activity of the tested samples was assessed against six microorganisms including Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. The prepared nanocoating formulas affirmed excellent antimicrobial activity as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial active agent with excellent activity against all representative microbial communities. The nanocoating with the highest ratio of Ka/ZnONPs (NCS@40 ka/ZnONPs) showed excellent antimicrobial activity with an inhibition percentage of more than 70% versus all microorganisms presented. The paper was coated with the prepared suspensions and characterized concerning optical, mechanical and physical properties. When Ka/ZnONPs were loaded into NCS in a variety of ratios, the characteristics of coated paper were enhanced compared to blank paper. The sample NCS@40 ka/ZnONPs increased tensile strength by 11%, reduced light scattering by 12%, and improved brightness and whiteness by 1%. Paper coated with NCh suspension had 35.32% less roughness and 188.6% less porosity. When coated with the sample NCS@10 ka/ZnONPs, the coated paper's porosity was reduced by 94% and its roughness was reduced by 10.85%. Biomass waste streams are a possible feedstock for a range of eco-friendly products and a crucial alternative energy source for achieving carbon neutrality; therefore, the efficient management of biomass waste has taken on a greater significance in recent years. Due to its well-comparable physic-chemical properties with fossil diesel, biodiesel is a potential substitute for fossil fuel. This study aimed to synthesize biodiesel from the widely available non-edible seed oil of Sisymbrium irio L. (a member of the Brassicaceae family) via a transesterification procedure over a homemade TiO 2 catalyst. At 1:16 oil to methanol ratio, 93% biodiesel yield was obtained over 20 mg catalyst at 60 °C and 60 min. The ASTM methods were used to analyze the fuel properties. The quantitative and qualitative analysis was performed by FT-IR, GC-MS, and NMR spectroscopy. GC-MS study confirms 16 different types of fatty acids of methyl esters. FT-IR analysis showed important peaks that confirm the successful occurrence of biodiesel. 1 H-NMR and 13 C-NMR showed important peaks for converting triglycerides into corresponding FAMEs. The acid value (0.42 mg KOH/mg/kg), flash point (106 °C), and water content (0.034) of biodiesel are below the specified limit of ASTM D6751 whereas kinetic viscosity (3.72 mm 2 /s), density (0.874 kg/L), cloud point (- 4.3 °C) and pour point (- 9.6 °C) and high heating value (41.62 MJ/kg) fall within the specified range of ASTM D6751 test limit. The Unsaturation degree and oxidative stability of biodiesel are above ASTM D6751 test limit. The physic-chemical properties of the SIB confirm that it is eco-friendly fuel and a competitive source for manufacturing biodiesel on a commercial scale. The chromium adsorption behavior from aqueous solution by the amphoteric Janus nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (AJ-N-CQDs) was investigated. The pseudo-first-order and the second-order adsorption kinetics models were employed to analyze the experimental data; the second-order adsorption kinetics model presented a better correlation to the experimental data, suggesting a chemisorptions process. The values obtained in the pseudo-first-order are still suitable for describing the Kinetics of Cr(VI) sorption. These values elucidate the surface processes involving chemisorption and physisorption in the adsorption of Cr(VI) by AJ-N-CQDs. The R 2 of the Boyd model gave a better fit to the adsorption data of AJ-N-CQDs (i.e., external diffusion), which means the surface processes involving external Cr(VI) adsorption by AJ-N-CQDs. The higher value of α may be due to the greater surface area of the AJ-N-CQDs for the immediate adsorption of Cr(VI) from the aqueous solution. The reaction of cyanoethyl cellulose with para-bromo diazonium chloride resulted in the creation of a novel bromo-containing cellulosic (MCPT). The dispersion stability of MCPT has been improved by its dispersion into 1% waterborne polyurethane acrylate (WPUA). TEM, particle size, and zeta potential were used to track the dispersion stability of aqueous MCPT and MCPT in 1% WPUA and particle size. The prepared MCPT has been utilized as a unique green colorant (dye) for the printing of cotton, polyester, and cotton/polyester blend fabrics using a silkscreen printing technique through a single printing step and one color system. Color improvement has been achieved by printing different fabrics with a printing paste of MCPT dispersed in 1% WPUA. The MCPT and MCPT in 1% WPUA printed fabrics were evaluated for rubbing, light, washing, and perspiration fastness, UV blocking activity, and antibacterial activity. Pulp fibre reinforced cement (fibre cement) has the potential to become a forerunner in mitigating the carbon dioxide (CO2) footprint of non-structural materials for residential and commercial structures. However, one of the significant bottlenecks in fibre cement is its poor chemical stability in the alkaline cement matrix. To date, probing the health of pulp fibre in cement is lengthy and laborious, requiring mechanical and chemical separations. In this study, we have demonstrated that it is possible to understand the chemical interactions at the fibre-cement interfaces by tracking lignin in a solid state without using any additional chemicals. For the first time, multidimensional fluorometry is employed for the rapid assessment of the structural change (degradation) of lignin in fibre cement as an indicator of pulp fibre health; providing an excellent platform for the germination of resilient fibre cement with high content of natural lignocellulosic fibre., (© 2023. Bee propolis is one of the most common natural extracts and has gained significant interest in biomedicine due to its high content of phenolic acids and flavonoids, which are responsible for the antioxidant activity of natural products. The present study report that the propolis extract (PE) was produced by ethanol in the surrounding environment. The obtained PE was added at different concentrations to cellulose nanofiber (CNF)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), and subjected to freezing thawing and freeze drying methods to develop porous bioactive matrices. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations displayed that the prepared samples had an interconnected porous structure with pore sizes in the range of 10-100 μm. The high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) results of PE showed around 18 polyphenol compounds, with the highest amounts of hesperetin (183.7 µg/mL), chlorogenic acid (96.9 µg/mL) and caffeic acid (90.2 µg/mL). The antibacterial activity results indicated that both PE and PE-functionalized hydrogels exhibited a potential antimicrobial effects against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Streptococcus mutans, and Candida albicans. The in vitro test cell culture experiments indicated that the cells on the PE-functionalized hydrogels had the greatest viability, adhesion, and spreading of cells. Contamination of water resources by industrial effluents containing heavy metal ions and management of solid waste from agricultural and food industries is a serious issue. This study presents the valorization of waste walnut shells as an effective and environment-friendly biosorbent for sequestrating Cr(VI) from aqueous media. The native walnut shell powder (NWP) was chemically modified with alkali (AWP) and citric acid (CWP) to obtain modified biosorbents with abundant availability of pores as active centers, as confirmed by BET analysis. During batch adsorption studies, the process parameters for Cr(VI) adsorption were optimized at pH 2.0. The adsorption data were fitted to isotherm and kinetic models to compute various adsorption parameters. The adsorption pattern of Cr(VI) was well explained by the Langmuir model suggesting the adsorbate monolayer formation on the surface of the biosorbents. The maximum adsorption capacity, q m, for Cr(VI) was achieved for CWP (75.26 mg/g), followed by AWP (69.56 mg/g) and NWP (64.82 mg/g). Treatment with sodium hydroxide and citric acid improved the adsorption efficiency of the biosorbent by 4.5 and 8.2%, respectively. The endothermic and spontaneous adsorption was observed to trail the pseudo-second-order kinetics under optimized process parameters. In this work heat transfer papers were loaded with a new core-shell pigment based on precipitating thin shell of titanium dioxide on a core of rice husk silica ash TiO 2 /RHSA to be applied in dye sublimation printing of textile fabrics. Besides, 0.1% (w/w) cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) and 1% (w/w) bentonite (Bt) were also added sequentially to improve drainage and filler retention of the paper hand-sheets made from bleached kraft bagasse pulps. The effect of the new core-shell pigment on the mechanical and barrier properties, thermal stability and surface morphology of modified paper sheets were investigated. In addition, the study of transfer printability and ease of dye release from paper to fabric in this heat transfer printing of polyester fabrics using silk-screen printing under different transfer parameters were studied. Paper and packaging materials a lignocellulose-based natural biodegradable polymer that spontaneously releases acetic acid, aldehydes, alcohol, and ester-based volatile organic compounds (VOCs) upon ageing and these VOCs start degrading the paper products and decline their mechanical strength properties. The reactivity of the paper of unbleached wheat straw pulp towards acetic acid and hexanal, which has been proven to have more degrading effects on paper than other VOCs, was considered in this work. The papers were exposed to these volatile compounds for 90 days in an air-tight vessel under ambient environmental conditions. The results showed that hexanal was more destructive than acetic acid with regards to cellulose degradation and depletion in the mechanical strength properties. The paper properties like, tensile, tear and burst index, viscosity, pH and carbonyl group content was measured. The growth of the carbonyl group, evidence of the ageing effects in the paper, detected more in the paper exposed to acetic acid. However, the strength of paper properties declined more with hexanal. FE-SEM analysis of the sample showed the development of pores and damage of cellulose fibre upon ageing. Similarly, the damaging effects of VOCs on cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin were confirmed by significantly reduced peak detection through FT-IR \analysis. The high crystallinity index of the paper products due to exposure to VOCs was detected by XRD analysis, which confirmed the degradation of the low molecular weight cellulose molecule. Activated carbon produced from biomass exhibits a high specific surface area due to the natural hierarchical porous structure of the precursor material. To reduce production costs of activated carbon, bio-waste materials receive more and more attention, which has led to a steep increase in the number of publications over the past decade. However, the characteristics of activated carbon are highly dependent on the properties of the precursor material used, making it difficult to draw assumptions about activation conditions for new precursor materials based on published work. Here, we introduce a Design of Experiment methodology with a Central Composite Design to better predict the properties of activated carbons from biomass. As a model precursor, we employ well-defined regenerated cellulose-based fibers which contain 25 wt.% chitosan as intrinsic dehydration catalyst and nitrogen donor. The use of the DoE methodology opens up the possibility to better identify the crucial dependencies between activation temperature and impregnation ratio on the yield, surface morphology, porosity and chemical composition of the activated carbon, independent of the used biomass. This work prepared a composite of orange peels magnetic activated carbon (MG-OPAC). The prepared composite was categorized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and vibrating-sample magnetometer (VSM) analyses. The MG-OPAC composite showed the surface area (155.09 m 2 /g), the total volume of pores (0.1768 cm 3 /g), and the mean diameter of pores (4.5604 nm). The saturation magnetization (Ms = 17.283 emu/g), remanence (Mr = 0.28999 emu/g) and coercivity (Hc = 13.714 G) were reported for the prepared MG-OPAC. Likewise, at room temperature, the MG-OPAC was in a super-paramagnetic state, which could be collected within 5 S (< 5 S) with an outside magnetic field. Influence of time of contact, absorbent dose, starting concentration of Cr 6+ ions, and pH were tested to adjust the absorption process. The absorption behavior of MG-OPAC for hexavalent chromium was investigated by Langmuir (LIM), Freundlich (FIM) and Temkin (TIM) isotherm models (IMs). Applicability of LIM specifies that Cr 6+ ions absorption procedure may be monolayer absorption. The maximum monolayer capacity (Q m ) premeditated by LIM was 277.8 mg/g. Similarly, the absorption process was tested with different kinetic models like intraparticle diffusion (IPDM), pseudo-first-order (PFOM), Elovich (EM), pseudo-second-order (PSOM), and Film diffusion (FDM). Hardwood vessel elements generate problems in industrial uncoated wood-free printing paper operation, causing vessel picking and ink refusal. These problems are mitigated using mechanical refining at the cost of paper quality. Vessel enzymatic passivation, altering its adhesion to the fiber network and reducing its hydrophobicity is a way of improving paper quality. The object of this paper is to study how the enzymatic treatment by xylanase and by an enzymatic cocktail containing cellulases and laccases affect elemental chlorine free bleached Eucalyptus globulus vessel and fiber porosities, bulk, and surface chemical compositions. Thermoporosimetry revealed the vessel structure to be more porous, surface analysis showed its lower O/C ratio and bulk chemistry analysis its higher hemicellulose content. Enzymes had different effects on porosity, bulk and surface composition of fibers and vessels, affecting vessel adhesion and hydrophobicity. Vessel picking count decreased 76% for papers containing vessels treated with xylanase and 94% for the papers with vessels treated with the enzymatic cocktail. Fiber sheet samples had lower water contact angle (54.1º) than vessels rich sheets (63.7º), that reduced with xylanase (62.1º) and cocktail (58.4º). In this study, a certain percentage of lignin in original bamboo kraft black liquor (BKBL) was separated, and the residual BKBL with low lignin content was expected to be fed into the alkali recovery boiler to reduce the heat transfer load of the alkali recovery boiler. With the decrease in lignin content, the rheological properties/volumetric isothermal expansivity (VIE) of BKBL change. When the lignin content was 70% remaining in the original BKBL, the viscosity of BKBL with low lignin content is close to that of the passivated BKBL at the same solids content, the dynamic viscoelasticity is superior, and the VIE decreases by 57.2%. When the amount of desilication agent is 1.5%, the viscosity of BKBL with low lignin content did not change much, and the VIE increased sharply and was 62.7% higher than that of the passivated BKBL. Therefore, the combination of partial lignin separation process and sodium aluminate desilication process can effectively improve the ability of alkali recovery boiler to deal with BKBL and reduce the influence of "silicon interference"., (© 2023. In the current work, rice straw nanofibers (RSNF) with the width of elementary fibrils (~ 4-5 nm) were isolated from rice straw. The isolated nanofibers were used with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) to prepare flexible nanopaper films. Tensile strength and electrical properties of the prepared RSNF/ZnONPs nanopaper were investigated. The addition of ZnONPs to RSNF nanopaper did not deteriorate its mechanical properties and showed a slight improvement in tensile strength and Young's modulus of about 14% and 10%, respectively, upon the addition of 5% of ZnONPs. Microscopy investigation using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed the inclusion of the ZnONPs within the RSNF. Electrical conductivity and dielectric properties as a function of frequency at different temperatures were studied. The ac-electrical conductivity increased with frequency and fitted with the power law equation. The dc- electrical conductivity of the samples verified the Arrhenius equation and the activation energies varied in the range from 0.9 to 0.42 eV. The dielectric constant decreased with increasing frequency and increased with increasing temperature, probably due to the free movement of dipole molecular chains within the RSNF nanopaper. In this study, calcium carbonate, sepiolite, and commonly used diatomite (DE) carriers were mixed to prepare calcium carbonate or sepiolite mixed DE/nano-titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ). The analyses of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope confirmed that the particle size of nano-TiO 2 was about 20-24 nm in DE/nano-TiO 2 , and the particles were relatively uniform. When (calcium carbonate and sepiolite + DE)/nano-TiO 2 was used, the Ti content in the composite remained unchanged, while the particle size of nano-TiO 2 increased to a certain extent. Among them, the use of (calcium carbonate + DE)/nano-TiO 2 increased the Ti content in the composite material significantly. In this study, a simple method based on non-ionic surfactant polysorbates-80 was used to create mesoporous γ-Al 2 O 3 NPs. The properties of the prepared mesoporous alumina nanoparticles (Al 2 O 3 NPs) were verified using ATR-FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, DLS, and BET surface area analysis. Then, thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) nanofiltration membranes were fabricated by interfacial polymerization of embedded polyamide layers with varied contents (0.01 to 0.15 wt.%) of mesoporous γ-Al 2 O 3 NPs. The surface roughness, porosity, pore size, and contact angle parameters of all the prepared membranes were also determined. The performance of the fabricated membranes was investigated under various mesoporous γ-Al 2 O 3 NPs loads, time, and pressure conditions. Mesoporous γ-Al 2 O 3 NPs revealed an important role in raising both the membrane hydrophilicity and the surface negativity. The addition of 0.03 wt.% mesoporous γ-Al 2 O 3 NPs to the TFN membrane increased water flux threefold compared to the TF control (TFC) membrane, with maximum water flux reaching 96.5, 98, 60, and 52 L/(m 2 .h) for MgSO 4 , MgCl 2 , Na 2 SO 4 , and NaCl influent solutions, respectively, with the highest salt rejection of 96.5%, 92.2%, 98.4%. The TFN-Al 2 O 3  membrane was also able to soften water and remove polyvalent cations such as Mg 2+ with a highly permeable flux. The TFN-Al 2 O 3 membrane successfully removed the hardness of the applied water samples below the WHO limit compared to using merely the TFC membrane. The promising features of most bacterial celluloses (BC) promote the continuous mining for a cost-effective production approach toward wide and sustainable applications. Herein, cantaloupe peels (CP) were successfully implemented for sustainable BC production. Results indicated that the enzymatically hydrolyzed CP supported the maximum BC production of approximately 3.49 g/L when used as a sole fermentation media. The produced BC was fabricated with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (Ch), and loaded with green synthesized copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) to improve its biological activity. The novel composite showed an antimicrobial activity against several human pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas fluorescens. Furthermore, the new composite revealed a significant in vitro anticancer activity against colon (Caco-2), hepatocellular (HepG-2), and breast (MDA) cancer cells, with low IC 50 of 0.48, 0.27, and 0.33 mg/mL for the three cell lines, respectively. On the other hand, the new composite was remarkably safe for human skin fibroblast (HSF) with IC 50 of 1.08 mg/mL. Interestingly, the composite membranes exhibited lethal effects against all stages of larval instar and pupal stage compared with the control. This study deals with the production of natural fiber plastic composites (NFPCs) to reduce environmental pollution with agricultural and plastic waste. Where the NFPCs were prepared from waste/pure polyethylene (WPE) (pure polyethylene (50%)/recycled polyethylene (50%)) and modified sunflower waste via an eco-friendly and economic biological process. The sunflower fibers (SF) were treated via whole selective fungal isolate, namely, Rhizopus oryzae (acc no. OM912662) using two different incubation conditions; submerged (Sub), and solid-state fermentation (SSF) to enhance the fibers' compatibility with WPE. The treated and untreated fibers were added to WPE with various concentrations (10 and 20 wt%). The morphology and structure of fibers were characterised by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR). Furthermore, the mechanical properties, morphology, biodegradation and water vapour transmission rate (WVTR) for the prepared NFPCs were investigated. Recent breakthroughs in the field of nanoparticle-based therapeutic delivery methods have changed the standpoint of cancer therapy by effectively delaying the process of disease development. Nanoparticles have a unique capacity of good penetrating ability than other therapeutic leads used in traditional therapeutics, and also, they have the highest impact on disease management. In the current study isolongifolene-loaded Chitosan nanoparticles have been formulated, synthesized and then characterized by the use of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy. Further, the characterized chitosan nano formulation was evaluated for hemocompatibility, plasma stability, and in-vitro release. Isolongifolene-loaded chitosan nanoparticles were found to be compatible with plasma and also, they exhibited a constant release pattern. This study aims to investigate novel applications for chicken feather waste hydrolysate through a green, sustainable process. Accordingly, an enzymatically degraded chicken feather (EDCFs) product was used as a dual carbon and nitrogen source in the production medium of bacterial cellulose (BC). The yield maximization was attained through applying experimental designs where the optimal level of each significant variable was recorded and the yield rose 2 times. The produced BC was successfully characterized by FT-IR, XRD and SEM. On the other hand, sludge from EDCFs was used as a paper coating agent. The mechanical features of the coated papers were evaluated by bulk densities, maximum load, breaking length, tensile index, Young's modulus, work to break and coating layer. The results showed a decrease in tensile index and an increase in elongation at break. These indicate more flexibility of the coated paper. The coated paper exhibits higher resistance to water vapor permeability and remarkable oil resistance compared to the uncoated one. Furthermore, the effectiveness of sludge residue in removing heavy metals was evaluated, and the sorption capacities were ordered as Cu ++  > Fe ++  > Cr ++  > Co ++ with high affinity (3.29 mg/g) toward Cu ++ and low (0.42 mg/g) towards Co ++ in the tested metal solution., (© 2022. Recently, cellulose nanocrystals (CNs) have attracted wide attention owing to their superior properties compared to their bulk materials. For example, they represent an outstanding model for fabricating green metallic/metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs). In this study, two CNs (carboxylated CNs and sulfated CNs) extracted from agro-wastes of palm sheath fibers were used as templates for the facile and green synthesis of ZnO NPs by employing the sono-co-precipitation method. The obtained nanomaterials were characterized using TEM, EDX, UV-visible, DLS, FT-IR, and XRD analysis. As a result, the size and concentration of synthesized ZnO NPs were inversely proportional to one another and were affected by the CNs utilized and the reaction temperature used. Contagious diseases incited by multifarious toxigenic bacteria present severe threats to human health. The fabricated bio-nanocomposites were evaluated in terms of their antimicrobial efficacy by agar well diffusion method and broth microdilution assay, showing that CN-ZnO bio-nanocomposites were effective against the tested Gram-negative (Escherichia coli and Salmonella) and Gram-positive (Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria. The influence of the subinhibitory concentrations of these suspensions on the expression of the most critical virulence toxin genes of the tested strains was effective. Significant downregulation levels were observed through toxigenic operons to both fabricated CN-ZnO bio-nanocomposites with a fold change ranging from 0.004 to 0.510, revealing a decline in the capacity and virulence of microorganisms to pose infections. Therefore, these newly fabricated CNS-ZnO bio-nanocomposites could be employed rationally in food systems as a novel preservative to inhibit microbial growth and repress the synthesis of exotoxins., (© 2022. Rotogravure printing cylinders are engraved by electro-mechanical engraving (EME) process in India used for printing purpose. But this process has drawbacks of the emissions of hazardous gases, solid and water pollution. EME cylinders are better in cell size, depth and needed higher copper and chrome plating thickness. By laser engraving (LE) copper and chromium thickness were reduced by 75 µm and 5 µm in a cylinder by laser engraving with also a reduction in power consumption and plating time. The effect of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coating on the hydrophobic, oleophobic, and strength properties of paper were investigated. The results showed that the size of bamboo fibers (BFs) decreased significantly and the crystallinity increased significantly after biological enzyme treatment. The average length of CNFs obtained by high pressure homogenization was 2.4 µm, the diameter was 28.7 nm, and the crystallinity was 63.63%. When the coating weight of PVA/CNF was 2.0 g/m 2 and the CNF dosage was increased from 0.0% to 3.0%, the paper grease resistance grade was increased from 7 to 9, the Cobb value was decreased from 22.68 ± 0.29 g/m 2 to 18.37 ± 0.63 g/m 2 , the contact angle was increased from 67.82° to 93.56°, and the longitudinal and transverse tensile index were increased from 67.72 ± 0.21 N m/g and 37.63 ± 0.25 N m/g to 68.61 ± 0.55 N m/g and 40.71 ± 0.78 N m/g, respectively. When the CNF dosage was 3.0% and the coating weight of PVA/CNF was 4.0 g/m 2 , the grease resistance grade of the paper was 12, the Cobb value was 21.80 ± 0.39 g/m 2 , and the longitudinal and transverse tensile indices were 72.11 ± 0.43 N m/g and 42.58 ± 0.48 N m/g, respectively. Photoabsorption properties of cellulose fibres under continuous and modulated irradiation were investigated in situ by the use of reversed double-beam photoacoustic spectroscopy (RDB-PAS). This photoacoustic (PA) measurement enabled observation of ultraviolet- and visible light-induced, electron trap filling, and reductive change on the surface of the fibres. Energy-resolved measurements and analysis of the kinetics of photoinduced de-excitation suggested that electrons that accumulated in the different cellulose crystalline phases had moderate reactivity toward molecular oxygen. Saturation limits of the intensities of the PA and RDB-PAS signals under de-aerated conditions in the presence of surface-adsorbed methanol were estimated for softwood and hardwood cellulose samples. The results suggest that the RDB-PAS technique is a feasible method for the estimation of the electron trap distribution, which is a potential measure of the density of crystalline cellulose defects., (© 2022. The application of green and sustainable anticorrosive coatings is becoming of upsurge interest for the protection of metallic materials in aggressive environments. Herein, a stable crystalline chitosan/gum Arabic composite (CGAC) nanopowder was successfully synthesized and characterized by various methods. The CGAC nanopowder with different doses (25, 50, 100, and 200 ppm) was used to coat mild steel samples and examined its anticorrosion ability in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution using gravimetric, electrochemical measurements, and surface characterization techniques. All methods yielded consistent results revealing that nanocomposite coatings can impart good anticorrosive properties to the steel substrate. The obtained protection efficiency was enhanced with increasing CGAC dose in the applied surface layer achieving 96.6% for the 200 ppm-coating. SEM and AFM surface morphologies of uncoated and coated samples after the inundation in the saline solution showed that CGAC coating can block the active corrosive sites on the steel surface, and prevent the aggressive Cl - ions from attacking the metallic substrate. The water droplet contact angle gave further support as it increased from 50.7° for the pristine uncoated surface to 101.2° for the coated one. Different surface micromorphologies influence osteoblast movements and impact the osteogenesis around implants. In this study, a biomimetic chip that simulates the microenvironment of the implant and bone in vitro was developed (tissue-on-chip of group T and group C) to study the correlation of cell movement velocity (CMV), direction (CMD), acceleration (CMA), and cell attachment number (CA) with the surface micromorphology of the Titanium material. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used for flow analysis. Changes in intraosseous pressure (IOP), local blood perfusion index (LBPI), new bone microstructure, microvessel density (MVD), and bone-implant contact (BIC) in beagle dogs were detected as implant surface alterations. Surface skewness (Ssk) and surface arithmetic mean height (Sa) were the most important negative factors for high CMV, accounting for 51% and 32%, respectively, of all the influencing factors. Higher Ssk (Ssk T  > 0, Ssk C  < 0) and Sa (Sa T  > Sa C ) resulted in lower CMV (CMV T :CMV C  = 0.41:1), greater CA (CA T :CA C  = 1.44:1), and higher BIC (BIC T :BIC C  = 3.06:1) (P < 0.05). The surface micromorphology influenced the CMD of MG-63 cells within 20 μm from the material surface. The current rationale is exploring new eco-friendly UV- shielding films based on cellulose and thiazolidine. Cellulose was oxidized to dialdehyde cellulose (DAC) and tricarboxy cellulose (TCC) by periodate and TEMPO/periodate/hypochlorite, respectively. While E-3-amino-5-(phenyldiazenyl)-2-thioxothiazolidin-4-one (TH) was synthesized by coupling diazonium salt with the 5-methylene of 2-thioxo-4-thiazolidinone. DAC was then coupled with TH via Schiff base reaction and incorporated onto TCC with different ratios to get UV-shielding films. 1 HNMR, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to investigate the chemical structure of the synthesized materials. In addition, the films' morphology, thermal, mechanical, and UV-shielding properties were investigated. The UV-shielding studies revealed that the film with 10% DAC-TH has 99.88, 99.99, and 96.19% UV-blocking (UVB), UV-absorbance (UVA), and Ultra-violet protection (UPF), respectively. Moreover, the prepared films demonstrated promising antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. Ultraviolet/ozone (UV/O 3 ) treatment has been reported to be an effective method to modify properties such as wettability, adhesion or adsorption of plastic surfaces. The change in the surface is measured by contact angle analysis, which employs liquids and their surface tensions (ST) to estimate the surface energy (SE). We found two different practices in the scientific community: (1) the majority of researchers adopted the ST value of liquids from the literature, while (2) other researchers conducted real-time measurements in the lab under ambient conditions prior to SE estimation. To the best of our knowledge, there is no study that compares the difference between the two practices. One study was found to show different SE methods generating unequal SE values for the same substrate. However, there was no definitive conclusion backed by general thermodynamics rules. In this study, we presented (1) a statistical significance test that showed the literature and experimental ST values are significantly different, and studied (2) the effect of different liquid pairs on the SE estimation for UV/O 3 treated poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) substrate. Modification techniques such as atmospheric pressure plasma or chemical modification were studied previously to examine PET's wettability and the SE. The UV/O 3 treatment was studied to improve adhesion and to modify its chemical properties for adsorption. In contrast, we studied (3) the effect of UV/O 3 on wettability at different timeframes and addressed (4) how to control unequal SE based on a method that was refined on a rigorous thermodynamic three-phase system. It must be noted that this method can be generalized to other types of solid surfaces to estimate thermodynamically self-consistent SE values. The electric charge storage properties of amorphous cellulose nanofiber (ACF) supercapacitors with different metal carboxylate radicals (COOM; M: Na(I), Ca(II), Al(III)) was investigated in terms of charging/discharging behaviours, alternating current impedance analysis, and plane-wave-based first-principles density functional calculations. Na-ACF exhibited a higher storage effect than Ca- and Al-ACFs. The charge storage mechanism for an Na-ACF supercapacitor was proposed using an electric double layer model in a C 12 H 17 O 11 Na electrolyte with an electrical resistivity of 6.8 × 10 3 Ω cm, based on the migration of protonic soliton. Bacterial cellulose (BC) is an ecofriendly biopolymer with diverse commercial applications. Its use is limited by the capacity of bacterial production strains and cost of the medium. Mining for novel organisms with well-optimized growth conditions will be important for the adoption of BC. In this study, a novel BC-producing strain was isolated from rotten fruit samples and identified as Lactiplantibacillus plantarum from 16S rRNA sequencing. Culture conditions were optimized for supporting maximal BC production using one variable at a time, Plackett-Burman design, and Box Behnken design approaches. Results indicated that a modified Yamanaka medium supported the highest BC yield (2.7 g/l), and that yeast extract, MgSO 4 , and pH were the most significant variables influencing BC production. After optimizing the levels of these variables through Box Behnken design, BC yield was increased to 4.51 g/l. The drug delivery capacity of the produced BC membrane was evaluated through fabrication with sodium alginate and gentamycin antibiotic at four different concentrations. All membranes (normal and fabricated) were characterized by scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and mechanical properties. The antimicrobial activity of prepared composites was evaluated by using six human pathogens and revealed potent antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus mutans, with no detected activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans., (© 2022. Bacterial infectious diseases are serious health problem which extends to economic and social complications. Moreover, bacterial antibiotic resistance, lack of suitable vaccine or emergence of new mutations is forcing the development of novel antimicrobial agents. The objective of this study is to synthesize and characterize star-like zinc oxide nanoparticles for the application of antibacterial activities in cellulose based hygiene products. ZnO NPs were in situ synthesized via precipitation method on the surface of cellulose fibers. Since bactericidal activity of nanoparticles in part depends on the concentration in the growth medium, various amount of ZnO was incorporated into cellulose matrix ranging from 1 to 3 wt%. Microscopic (TEM, SEM) and spectroscopic (FT-IR, XRD) methods were utilized to investigate the final products. The infrared absorption spectra analysis supported by theoretical finding that during the reaction, ZnO nanoparticles could be bonded with cellulose fibers via hydrogen bonding. The yield of functionalization was determined through thermogravimetric analysis. Collected data proved the successful functionalization of the cellulose fibers with nanoparticles. Static contact angle measurements were carried out showing absorptive character of as prepared fabrics. All the samples were tested for the antibacterial properties and the results were compared to the samples prepared from the pristine cellulose fibers. Moreover, mechanical tests were performed revealing that the addition of only 2 wt% of the nanofiller boosted tensile, tearing and bursting strength by a factor of 1.6, 1.4 and 2.2 in comparison to unfunctionalized paper sample, respectively. Fabricated fabric presenting high hydrophilicity and antibacterial properties have gained increased applications in fabric industry, including hygiene product industry and hence the result of this study would be a welcomed option., (© 2022. Cellulose fibers are a major industrial input, but due to their irregular shape and anisotropic material response, accurate material characterization is difficult. Single fiber tensile testing is the most popular way to estimate the material properties of individual fibers. However, such tests can only be performed along the axis of the fiber and are associated with problems of enforcing restraints. Alternative indirect approaches, such as micro-mechanical modeling, can help but yield results that are not fully decoupled from the model assumptions. Here, we compare these methods with nanoindentation as a method to extract elastic material constants of the individual fibers. We show that both the longitudinal and the transverse elastic modulus can be determined, additionally enabling the measurement of fiber properties in-situ inside a sheet of paper such that the entire industrial process history is captured. The obtained longitudinal modulus is comparable to traditional methods for larger indents but with a strongly increased scatter as the size of the indentation is decreased further., (© 2021.
