Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as an innovative technology with the potential to revolutionize various industries including libraries and information science. Academic libraries are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance services, improve efficiency, and enhance user experience. This study utilizes a bibliometric approach to comprehensively analyze current research on AI in academic libraries (AI in ALs). This study employed bibliometric indicators to identify key trends, patterns, and research gaps in the existing literature. A comprehensive dataset of 373 research papers on AI in ALs published between 2002 and 2022 was collected and analyzed using the Scopus database. Various bibliometric tools, such as Biblioshiny, VOSviewer, and BibExcel, have enhanced this analysis. The findings of this study provide important insights. By 2022, there were 64 publications, constituting 17.16% of the total corpus, accompanied by 65 citations. In contrast, 2019 witnessed only 33 publications yet accumulated a substantial number of citations, amounting to 294, representing 8.85% of the overall citations. Conference papers exhibited the highest frequency among different publication types, with 165 publications, whereas journal articles had the highest citation count, accumulating 217 citations. Geographically, China emerged as the leading contributor with 119 publications, and Wuhan University stood out as the most prominent affiliation. Notably, the "Lecture Notes in Computer Science" series emerged as the most prolific source title, publishing 15 articles, of which eight were cited. This paper provides information on the characteristics of the research output from the chemistry and biochemistry faculty publications at the University of Arkansas over a ten-year period (2011–2020). The faculty publications were used to identify (a) a core set of journals and other resources they are publishing in and citing over this period; (b) the characteristics of the journals in which they publish and cite (i.e., scatter of publications, Bradford distribution, major publishers, ranking and subject categories based on the Journal citation Reports (JCR); (3) the degree of openness of their publications; their citation advantage, if any, using both the Web of Science and SciFinder; and (4) the age of resources that are referenced. Based on the findings, the authors were able to gain a very good overview of the characteristics of the research publications and were able to identify how well the library is catering to those needs. This paper selected the library of the College of Engineering, Nanjing Agricultural University as a subject and then surveyed four groups of samples: new-book replica rate, book-use rate, book-borrowed number, and number of books in the collection. Results were obtained by inspecting these data via the statistical methods of correlation and regression analyses, and two relationships were found: 1) the quadratic curve between the new-book replica rate and book-use rate; and 2) the power equation between the book-borrowed number and the number of books in the collection. Finally, after the new-book replica rate and the number of books in the collection were compared and predicted, respectively, this paper formulates a reasonable strategy for the library's hard-copy book purchase procedure. It would be helpful for the librarians who are interested in document resource developing or purchase of hard-copy books; however, this paper provides a method specific to engineering colleges. Students in Organic Chemistry for Majors were required to write a paper as the culminating course assignment. Prior to completing this assignment, students could attend a library instruction session covering relevant databases and resources. Upon submission of their papers, bibliographies from 53 students were collected. Calculations were made to attempt a holistic account of costs associated with completing the assignment. Hackathons are time-bound, competitive coding contests that are often judged for prizes. Their name originates from joining hacking, playful exploration of hardware and software issues, with marathons, endurance competitions. The intent is to challenge participants to build working prototypes of hardware or software in a short time period, anywhere from one day to several weeks, though typically between 24–28 hours. While they are a mainstay in computer science fields, they are becoming increasingly popular in other domains, including libraries. Libraries have long championed life-long learning, a democratization of data, and access to information. These are similar mentalities of the maker movement, echoed in hackathons. Rapid iteration, problem solving, and cooperative learning are regularly present at events and within library systems. This paper details a case study of one institution's growth from a hackathon event host to deeper library engagement and partnership with an informal learning program. The authors will highlight benefits that both partners observed and will end with a pitch for why other libraries should consider hosting similar events. The role of reference and information service has been redefined in some Chinese university libraries. In these libraries the focus of reference and information service has transformed into information analysis. University libraries have been a participant in the management and evaluation in scientific research, technological innovation, and discipline construction. The information analysis service of Zhejiang University Library is a typical case. Zhejiang University library established an information analysis group in 2009 in reference and information service division. To further guarantee the professionalism of service, the information analysis service center was set up in 2018 as a separate division. Over the past decade, information analysis service has played the potential of library in supporting decision-making, scientific research and innovation, discipline construction, research performance evaluation, etc. Information analysis service makes the popularity and status of the university library improve continuously. The evolution of information analysis service of Zhejiang University Library is reviewed in this paper, from the initial stage to the expansion stage, and then to the establishment of professional division. Approaches to promote the progress of information analysis service are summarized. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the service quality of Nanjing Agricultural University library in China based on LibQUAL, to improve the library service level. Based on the situation of Nanjing Agricultural University library, LibQUAL was modified for localization, and a new scale was created comprising four dimensions and twenty-two indexes. Subsequently, a service-quality questionnaire in paper format was designed. Finally, the service quality of Nanjing Agricultural University library was surveyed and assessed. This localization scale is suitable for the service-quality assessment of Nanjing Agricultural University library. Every new scale based on LibQUAL should be examined in terms of its reliability and validity. The new scale is helpful to other libraries. After modification, it should be suitable for other university libraries to assess their own service levels. Over time, the ways that academic institutions make needed information and resources available to students have evolved, from paper pathfinders to online versions and to new technologies such as podcasts, wikis, and other Web 2.0 approaches. There exist many difficulties for the college libraries of western China to develop digital libraries. These difficulties are shortage of funds, restriction of information infrastructure, library leadership, short- age of technical knowledge and user training. After analysis of these problems, this paper sums up some experiences and lessons learned. The growing use of GIS in university research and teaching environments has created a demand for data, software, and technical support that is best accommodated by a central GIS service provider. The library is a natural candidate for this role. While some academic libraries only provide GIS-formatted data, others offer exhaustive services, ranging from GIS courses to contract GIS work for students and faculty upon demand. This paper discusses how the Stanford University Library System has integrated GIS support into its suite of services offered to patrons across all academic disciplines. Increased efforts to diversify science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in the United States have drastically increased the number of studies offering insight into the experiences of women in STEM programs in higher education. This paper presents a thematic review of the literature regarding their status from 2007 to 2017 including journals, trade magazines, theses, and dissertations. It focuses on areas of recruitment, retention, barriers, and faculty issues. Stereotypes, biases, campus culture, classroom experiences, identity, and sense of belonging are also explored. The modern academic library is characterized by technological innovation, optimum Internet connectivity, and boasts of numerous electronic resources and services that are accessible remotely. Library patrons can now `visit' the library and conduct research without ever entering the library building. Furthermore, enabling technologies have led to the exponential growth of distance education programs in many higher education institutions. Students can now participate in college and university programs without leaving their geographical locations because technology facilitates virtual delivery of academic programs. This has in turn led to the emergence of virtual academic communities. These virtual communities require the services and resources of various academic support units much in the same way as traditional campus communities. In order to remain relevant within this milieu, academic libraries are changing rapidly and being transformed to meet the changing needs of the evolving academic communities they serve. To that end, libraries are increasingly providing services and support to virtual patrons, by facilitating access to and navigation of electronic resources and providing value-added support services that optimize effective use of these resources. The public service areas that have undergone the greatest technology-enabled transformation to meet the needs of virtual patrons are access, reference, and instruction. As technology changes, it will continue to define the capability of libraries to meet the changing needs of library patrons. This paper reviews some of the recent developments in electronic access, reference and instruction in light of services to virtual patrons, particularly college and university students. As electronic journals, or e-journals, have become more prevalent, publishers, libraries, and users have all had to adapt to a new paradigm, to new methods for publishing, acquiring, providing access to, preserving, and searching for research articles. Publishers offer new and constantly changing subscription and pricing models, and the prices of many commercial journals have been increasing at rates far exceeding the rate of inflation. The resulting budget crunch has driven significant changes in the way libraries develop their collections as they strive to reformulate their traditional role as provider and preserver of information. Some libraries are working more in consortium with other libraries to purchase large bundled journal packages now offered as one of the new subscription models developed by publishers. While this appears to be a win-win situation for libraries and users in the consortium, potential drawbacks to e-journals and the big bundled packages may impact libraries and researchers alike. This study investigates some of the potential effects of a move toward e-journal only collections, large bundled journal packages, and consortial purchasing including archival, economic, content, and research impact issues. Future predictions are difficult in the current, rapidly changing scholarly publishing environment, but a number of initiatives provide hope for the future of academic libraries and their users. Funding agency mandates have issued memorandums requiring applicants to submit a data management plan as well as the inclusion and support for public access to research data. This inclusion and access indicates growing trends among journal publishers. This article examines twenty-eight engineering journal research data policies to better understand the current state of data sharing, the relationship to open access, how data are shared with supplementary files, and how can we measure if the strength of data-sharing policies influences the observed pervasiveness of sharing data. The purpose of this study is to determine the pervasiveness and quality of data-sharing policies as reflected in editorial policies and the instructions to authors. As the traditional role of academic subject librarian evolves to that of a partner in research and innovation, citation analysis and visualization studies are emerging as a valuable contribution to the process. Bibliometrics, or citation analysis, studies quantitative aspects of published information and allows researchers to analyze the dissemination of knowledge within research areas. An increased demand for these analyses is likely, particularly in support of technology commercialization initiatives. Using readily available open access tools, the authors review current techniques for identifying emerging research fronts and illustrate the process with step-by-step methodology. This study explores data management perspectives of aerospace, industrial and mechanical science engineering faculty affiliated with (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)). The author conducted fourteen semi-structured interviews and analyzed them using a qualitative inductive coding method. This study builds upon previous work and seeks to explore how the elements of data management planning align with researchers' workflow, challenges, and awareness to research data services. Overall, the goal of this study is to gain a better understanding of these researcher's data management practices and enhance the research data services provided to faculty and research groups. Open Access (OA) publications can be useful for developing collections in academic libraries during times of fiscal hardship. Bibliometric analysis is a tool that librarians can use to aid their collection decisions. This study gathered data on engineering OA publications from a research university to determine the number and OA models most used in Web of Science (WoS) and Ei Compendex, and then analyzed 5 Journal Impact Factor and CiteScore rankings. The purpose of this survey is to analyze aviation-related online research guides to find what resources librarians are sharing. Online research guides from AABI accredited institutions were reviewed to find what databases, periodicals, books, professional organizations and associations, and government information sources were recommended. An online survey, conducted in 2009, of New Jersey academic libraries' provides data for studying different types of reference models being used in a subset of libraries involved in science, engineering, medical, nursing, or allied health subject areas. Based on the results, the traditional library reference desk is still the primary mode for delivering reference services. However, some of these libraries are supplementing the traditional service with nontraditional forms of reference and are experimenting with a variety of virtual, Web 2.0 tools. An increasing number of journals and publishers have data-sharing policies and data availability statements. This study examines data-sharing policies of faulty affiliated in medicine. More so, it addresses the following research questions: (1) What are the data-sharing policies of these research journals, (2) What is the relationship between data sharing, open access and journal impactor? and (3) What are current journal articles' applicability to Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) Sharing Principles. The data identified and examined in this study are retrieved from a visualization tool detailing authors, coauthors, articles, number of citations, grants that used visualization mapping to indicate the impact of research groups. This results in an analysis of sixty articles. Twenty-three percent of the journals have no research data policy, seventeen percent have strong data policies and sixty percent have policies that encourage research data sharing. Seventy-two percent of the journals are open access. All the articles are Findable, and a majority are accessible. There were challenges accessing articles' applicability to Interoperability and the results of reusability were inconclusive. Overall, data-sharing policies vary, no correlation between high impact factor and research data policies. Publishers with supportive data-sharing statements and journals with no policies create complexities in interpretation and application of data sharing. The study was on blog technology and constraints to implementation in public university libraries in South-East, Nigeria. The study design was descriptive survey. Questionnaire was used for data collection. The sample size was 49 respondents. The study revealed that the respondents' level of awareness regarding the use of library blog was very high. Also, inadequate electricity provision and inadequate skilled librarians to manage the technology were the main bane of use of Library weblog and other social media tools in the libraries. Chemists in academic institutions utilize a variety of resources and strategies to remain current and to track scholarly information, patents, and news. To explore how chemists in academic institutions remain current, librarians at four Canadian university institutions surveyed 231 and interviewed 14 chemistry faculty, staff, and graduate students on their information seeking behaviors and attitudes. According to survey results, a minority of chemists (13.9 percent) acknowledged that they were successfully keeping up to date, while 50.6 percent indicated that they were somewhat successful. However, a significant number of chemists (35.5 percent) indicated that they were unsuccessful and could do better in remaining current with information. Investigators analyzing focus group data identified three emergent themes related to remaining current: (1) there is "too much information - and not enough time." No single information seeking strategy works; (2) "patents are important - but messy." Chemists find themselves largely suspicious about the value and credibility of patents; and (3) chemists "could do better" in keeping up to date with new and emerging technologies. Chemists continue to be open to new tools and resources yet readily acknowledge that they are too often not sure which information seeking behaviors, resources, or strategies work best. A journal overlap analysis was performed between the academic library databases Meteorological & Geoastrophysical Abstracts (MGA) and Web of Science. This overlap analysis determined that there are 1263 serial titles common to both Web of Science and MGA with a full 87 percent of the 1447 MGA journals/serials indexed in Web of Science. In all, 5.47 percent of Web of Science journals are indexed in MGA. The size of this overlap may have potential implications for library collections. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In 2015, the J. Murrey Atkins Library recruited faculty, staff, alumni, and students to submit digital images of photomicrographic art, which were printed and placed on exhibit in the library’s main lobby.Visualizing Science: Microscopic Images from UNC Charlottecelebrated research with 43 intriguing images, bringing science to the lay community. Events included an open house, publicity in a local newspaper, and the presentation of a student seminar to guests from a local retirement community. Additionally, the images were accessible in an online version. Libraries are encouraged to organize similar exhibits after evaluating the approaches taken by the exhibit committee. Since 2011, Georgia Tech Library has been undergoing a series of changes to redefine the 21st century research library. At the beginning of these changes were combining reference, circulation, and technology support into a one-stop-shop service model. In October 2004 a survey was mailed to theEngineering News Record’s Top 500 Design firms asking about their information resources and whether there was a degreed librarian on staff. The article resulting from this research (Napp 2004) has been widely cited in the literature in the past decade. In light of the economic crisis in the United States during the decade since 2004, it was decided that a follow-up survey to learn what had changed would be useful. The goal of both surveys was to assess the state of library services in U.S. design firms. Findings from the current survey help illuminate the information landscape into which engineering students enter after graduation. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has enriched many fields through its scientific discoveries and new technologies, but its impact on information science, though lesser known, may be among its most significant contributions. This case study details how a data services librarian and a science librarian collaborate to provide embedded data management support for the research-oriented Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at Rutgers University–Newark. In 2003, a team of anthropologists made the shocking discovery of some very unusual skeletal remains at a cave on the island of Flores, Indonesia. The team had discovered a group of tiny bipedal human-like hominins who survived on Flores until very recently, overlapping with modern humans. International students may experience cultural, linguistic, and educational barriers when using US university libraries, thereby disadvantaging their academic success. University libraries may compound the disadvantage if they are not attuned to international students' information behavior. Faculty and graduate students in the geosciences at the University of Oklahoma were surveyed online about their familiarity with and usage of electronic resources, then observed using e-books via different provider platforms on a computer. E-books from ebrary, Elsevier, Knovel, and Springer platforms were discussed and evaluated by the participants in the study. From the survey and user observation, unique features of geoscience scholarly research are identified that have implications for e-book publishers who wish to make the e-book format viable for the discipline. University of Oklahoma librarians invited faculty in the pure and applied sciences to discuss current and potential e-book use in research and instruction. A detailed comparative analysis of three platforms of the geoscience database GeoRef is presented. Detailed comparisons are presented in the areas of general features, search features, display options, retrieval options, and search results algorithms for the GeoRef platforms produced by OvidSP, EBSCO, and Engineering Village. These platforms prove to be comparable in many respects. The CIC consortium includes 12 major Midwestern Universities. Their libraries have decided to share the cost of a joint project (2003-2006) aimed at better understanding the mechanisms by which emerging technologies and standards can facilitate metadata sharing and the creation of value-added services for their users. The CIC metadata portal project has performed advanced work in the area of Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting, collection-level descriptions, metadata transformation and enrichment, and practices and usability of metadata standards. It has provided an opportunity for increased collaboration between CIC academic libraries and a way to highlight the wealth of digital resources held by the participating libraries. This article describes the project and enumerates project accomplishments. The project has helped to better the way in which partner institutions share information about digital content and provide access to digital resources.
