Three-dimensional SAR imaging of urban buildings is currently a hotspot in the research area of remote sensing. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) offers all-time, all-weather, high-resolution capacity, and is an important tool for the monitoring of building health. Buildings have geometric distortion in conventional 2D SAR images, which brings great difficulties to the interpretation of SAR images. This paper proposes a novel Rotating SAR (RSAR) mode, which acquires 3D information of buildings from two different angles in a single rotation. This new RSAR mode takes the center of a straight track as its rotation center, and obtains images of the same facade of a building from two different angles. By utilizing the differences in geometric distortion of buildings in the image pair, the 3D structure of the building is reconstructed. Compared to the existing tomographic SAR or circular SAR, this method does not require multiple flights in different elevations or observations from varying aspect angles, and greatly simplifies data acquisition. In recent years, the development of neural networks has significantly advanced their application in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) ship target detection for maritime traffic control and ship management. However, traditional neural network architectures are often complex and resource intensive, making them unsuitable for deployment on artificial satellites. To address this issue, this paper proposes a lightweight neural network: the Multi-Scale SAR Ship Detection Network (MSSD-Net). Initially, the MobileOne network module is employed to construct the backbone network for feature extraction from SAR images. Subsequently, a Multi-Scale Coordinate Attention (MSCA) module is designed to enhance the network's capability to process contextual information. This is followed by the integration of features across different scales using an FPN + PAN structure. Lastly, an Anchor-Free approach is utilized for the rapid detection of ship targets. To evaluate the performance of MSSD-Net, we conducted extensive experiments on the Synthetic Aperture Radar Ship Detection Dataset (SSDD) and SAR-Ship-Dataset. Our experimental results demonstrate that MSSD-Net achieves a mean average precision (mAP) of 98.02% on the SSDD while maintaining a compact model size of only 1.635 million parameters. The spaceborne high-resolution and wide-swath synthetic aperture radar (HRWS-SAR) system combined with the ground moving target indication (GMTI) mode provides a promising prospect in the realization of wide-area target surveying and high-resolution target imaging. In this paper, a system design method is proposed for an HRWS-SAR-GMTI system with ideal reconstruction configuration. In the proposed method, the whole azimuth receiving channels are uniformly divided into multiple groups, where HRWS-SAR imaging is implemented in each sub-group and then GMTI processing is performed based on the reconstructed SAR images. Then, an optimal candidate PRF is properly selected with respect to the optimal reconstruction configuration. After that, the digital beam forming scanning on receive (DBF-SCORE) technique is applied to further enlarge the range swath and improve the noise equivalent scattering coefficient (NESZ). Based on the predesigned system, HRWS-SAR image-based GMTI processing can finally be accomplished. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by simulated experiments. Tomographic Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) allows the reconstruction of the 3D radar reflectivity of forests from a large(r) number of multi-angular acquisitions. However, in most practical implementations it suffers from limited vertical resolution and/or reconstruction artefacts as the result of non-ideal acquisition setups. Polarisation Coherence Tomography (PCT) offers an alternative to traditional tomographic techniques that allow the reconstruction of the low-frequency 3D radar reflectivity components from a small(er) number of multi-angular SAR acquisitions. PCT formulates the tomographic reconstruction problem as a series expansion on a given function basis. The expansion coefficients are estimated from interferometric coherence measurements between acquisitions. In its original form, PCT uses the Legendre polynomial basis for the reconstruction of the 3D radar reflectivity. This paper investigates the use of new basis functions for the reconstruction of X-band 3D radar reflectivity of forests derived from available lidar waveforms. This approach enables an improved 3D radar reflectivity reconstruction with enhanced vertical resolution, tailored to individual forest conditions. It also allows the translation from sparse lidar waveform vertical reflectivity information into continuous vertical reflectivity estimates when combined with interferometric SAR measurements. This is especially relevant for exploring the synergy of actual missions such as GEDI and TanDEM-X. The quality of the reconstructed 3D radar reflectivity is assessed by comparing simulated InSAR coherences derived from the reconstructed 3D radar reflectivity against measured coherences at different spatial baselines. The assessment is performed and discussed for interferometric TanDEM-X acquisitions performed over two tropical Gabonese rainforest sites: Mondah and Lopé. The results demonstrate that the lidar-derived basis provides more physically realistic vertical reflectivity profiles, which also produce a smaller bias in the simulated coherence validation, compared to the conventional Legendre polynomial basis. This paper investigates the airborne synthetic aperture radar via outfield experiments based on carrier-free ultra-wideband signals with fifth-order Gaussian pulses with imaging using the backward projection algorithm. Typical blanket jamming is selected in the study, and NAM, NFM, and SFM are used as jamming signals to investigate the backward projection BP imaging effect of airborne synthetic aperture radar when subjected to blanket jamming in a real-world environment. Subsequently, a variational modal decomposition algorithm is proposed, aiming at the anti-jamming processing of airborne synthetic aperture radar. Further, the variational modal decomposition algorithms are compared with the empirical modal decomposition for the anti-jamming effect, which verified the effectiveness and high efficiency of the method. This study provides a new solution for the imaging problem of airborne synthetic aperture radar when subjected to blanket jamming, and a helpful reference is provided for the selection of anti-jamming processing methods. With respect to the detection and recognition of an Artificial Modulation Target (AMT) with different modulated types, the state-of-the-art methods generally suffer the deficiencies of overfitting and insufficient generalization of existing neural network solutions. To address these problems, this paper proposes a multi-scale amplitude-phase feature discrimination method for AMTs in SAR images. First, a multi-type modulated AMT Dataset is generated (AMT Detection and Modulation Type Recognition Dataset, ADMTR Dataset), wherein the factors of jamming position, jamming-to-signal ratio (JSR), and the modulated parameter are considered to enhance the generalization. Second, a Multi-Input Multi-Output Fusion Wavelet Neural Network (MIMOFWTNN) is established, which not only uses the amplitude information of the scene but also adequately makes use of the phase and high-frequency information. This empowers us to detect the AMT in a higher dimensional feature space such that the type recognition can be implemented with more certainty. Analysis and discussions conducted on comparison experiments and ablation experiments demonstrate that the proposed network can achieve an average accuracy of 96.96% on the cross-validation set and a correct rate of 99.0% on the completely independent test set, which outperforms the compared methods. Accurate snow depth estimation is of significant importance, particularly for preventing avalanche disasters and predicting flood seasons. The predominant approaches for such snow depth estimation, based on deep learning methods, typically rely on passive microwave remote sensing data. However, due to the low resolution of passive microwave remote sensing data, it often results in low-accuracy outcomes, posing considerable limitations in application. To further improve the accuracy of snow depth estimation, in this paper, we used active microwave remote sensing data. We fused multi-spectral optical satellite images, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images and land cover distribution images to generate a snow remote sensing dataset (SRSD). It is a first-of-its-kind dataset that includes active microwave remote sensing images in high-latitude regions of Asia. Using these novel data, we proposed a multi-scale feature perception and aggregation neural network (MFPANet) that focuses on improving feature extraction from multi-source images. Our systematic analysis reveals that the proposed approach is not only robust but also achieves high accuracy in snow depth estimation compared to existing state-of-the-art methods, with RMSE of 0.360 and with MAE of 0.128. To address the challenge of achieving both temporal consistency and spatial continuity in Earth observation data of polar regions, this paper proposes an innovative concept of Moon-based/Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO) Spaceborne Bistatic Synthetic Aperture Radar (MH-BiSAR), with transmitters on the Moon and receivers on HEO satellites. By utilizing ephemeris data and an orbit propagator, this study explores MH-BiSAR's geometric coverage capabilities in polar regions and conducts a preliminary analysis of its characteristics. The findings reveal that MH-BiSAR could provide continuous multi-day revisit observations of polar regions within each sidereal month, presenting a significant advantage for monitoring high-dynamic and large-scale scientific phenomena, such as polar sea ice observations. Speckle reduction is a key preprocessing approach for the applications of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data. For many interpretation tasks, high-quality SAR images with a rich texture and structure information are useful. Therefore, a satisfactory SAR image filter should retain this information well after processing. Some quantitative assessment indicators have been presented to evaluate the edge-preservation capability of single-polarization SAR filters, among which the non-clean-reference-based (i.e., blind) ones are attractive. However, most of these indicators are derived based only on the basic fact that the speckle is a kind of multiplicative noise, and they do not take into account the detailed statistical distribution traits of SAR data, making the assessment not robust enough. Moreover, to our knowledge, there are no specific blind assessment indicators for fully Polarimetric SAR (PolSAR) filters up to now. In this paper, a blind assessment indicator based on an SAR Ratio Gradient Operator (RGO) and Confidence Interval Estimation (CIE) is proposed. The RGO is employed to quantify the edge gradient between two neighboring image patches in both the speckled and filtered data. A decision is then made as to whether the ratio gradient value in the filtered image is close to that in the unobserved clean image by considering the statistical traits of speckle and a CIE method. The proposed indicator is also extended to assess the PolSAR filters by transforming the polarimetric scattering matrix into a scalar which follows a Gamma distribution. Experiments on the simulated SAR dataset and three real-world SAR images acquired by ALOS-PALSAR, AirSAR, and TerraSAR-X validate the robustness and reliability of the proposed indicator. This paper presents a statistical approach to identify the underlying roughness characteristics in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) intensity data. The physical modeling of this kind of data allows the use of the Gamma distribution in the presence of fully developed speckle, i.e., when there are infinitely many independent backscatterers per resolution cell, and none dominates the return. Such areas are often called "homogeneous" or "textureless" regions. The G I 0 distribution is also a widely accepted law for heterogeneous and extremely heterogeneous regions, i.e., areas where the fully developed speckle hypotheses do not hold. We propose three test statistics to distinguish between homogeneous and inhomogeneous regions, i.e., between gamma and G I 0 distributed data, both with a known number of looks. The first test statistic uses a bootstrapped non-parametric estimator of Shannon entropy, providing a robust assessment in uncertain distributional assumptions. The second test uses the classical coefficient of variation (CV). The third test uses an alternative form of estimating the CV based on the ratio of the mean absolute deviation from the median to the median. We apply our test statistic to create maps of p-values for the homogeneity hypothesis. Finally, we show that our proposal, the entropy-based test, outperforms existing methods, such as the classical CV and its alternative variant, in identifying heterogeneity when applied to both simulated and actual data. SAR image target recognition relies heavily on a large number of annotated samples, making it difficult to classify the unseen class targets. Due to the lack of effective category auxiliary information, the current zero-shot target recognition methods for SAR images are limited to inferring only one unseen class rather than classifying multiple unseen classes. To address this issue, a conditional generative network with the category features from the simulated images for zero-shot SAR target recognition is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the deep features are extracted from the simulated images and fused into the category features that characterize the entire class. Then, a conditional VAE-GAN network is constructed to generate the feature instances of the unseen classes. The high-level semantic information shared in the category features aids in generalizing the mapping learned from the seen classes to the unseen classes. Finally, the generated features of the unseen classes are used to train a classifier that can classify the real unseen images. The classification accuracies for the targets of the three unseen classes based on the proposed method can reach 99.80 ± 1.22% and 71.57 ± 2.28% with the SAMPLE dataset and the MSTAR dataset, respectively. The advantage and validity of the proposed architecture are indicated with a small number of the seen classes and a small amount of the training data. Urban planning has, in recent years, been significantly assisted by remote sensing data. The data and techniques that are used are very diverse and are available to government agencies as well as to private companies that are involved in planning urban and peri-urban areas. Synthetic aperture radar data are particularly important since they provide information on the geometric and electrical characteristics of ground objects and, at the same time, are unaffected by sunlight (day–night) and cloud cover. SAR data are usually combined with optical data (fusion) in order to increase the reliability of the terrain information. Most of the existing relative classification methods have been reviewed. New techniques that have been developed use decorrelation and interferometry to record changes on the Earth's surface. Texture-based features, such as Markov random fields and co-occurrence matrices, are employed, among others, for terrain classification. Furthermore, target geometrical features are used for the same purpose. Among the innovative works presented in this manuscript are those dealing with tomographic SAR imaging for creating digital elevation models in urban areas. Finally, tomographic techniques and digital elevation models can render three-dimensional representations for a much better understanding of the urban region. The above-mentioned sources of information are integrated into geographic information systems, making them more intelligent. In this work, most of the previous techniques and methods are reviewed, and selected papers are highlighted in order for the reader-researcher to have a complete picture of the use of SAR in urban planning. The significant differences in data domains between SAR images and the expensive and time-consuming process of data labeling pose significant challenges to terrain classification. Current terrain classification methodologies face challenges in addressing domain disparities and detecting uncommon terrain effectively. Based on Style Transformation and Domain Metrics (STDMs), we propose an unsupervised domain adaptive framework named STDM-UDA for terrain classification in this paper, which consists of two steps: image style transfer and domain adaptive segmentation. As a first step, image style transfer is performed within the image space to mitigate the differences in low-level features between SAR image domains. Subsequently, leveraging this process, the segmentation network extracts image features, employing domain metrics and adversarial training to enhance alignment between domain gaps in the semantic feature space. Finally, experiments conducted on several pairs of SAR images, each exhibiting varying degrees of differences in key imaging parameters such as source, resolution, band, and polarization, demonstrate the robustness of the proposed method. It achieves remarkably competitive classification accuracy, particularly for unlabeled, high-resolution broad scenes, effectively overcoming the domain gaps introduced by the diverse imaging parameters under studies. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) change detection provides a powerful tool for continuous, reliable, and objective observation of the Earth, supporting a wide range of applications that require regular monitoring and assessment of changes in the natural and built environment. In this paper, we introduce a novel SAR image change detection method based on principal component analysis and two-level clustering. First, two difference images of the log-ratio and mean-ratio operators are computed, then the principal component analysis fusion model is used to fuse the two difference images, and a new difference image is generated. To incorporate contextual information during the feature extraction phase, Gabor wavelets are used to obtain the representation of the difference image across multiple scales and orientations. The maximum magnitude across all orientations at each scale is then concatenated to form the Gabor feature vector. Following this, a cascading clustering algorithm is developed within this discriminative feature space by merging the first-level fuzzy c-means clustering with the second-level neighbor rule. Ultimately, the two-level combination of the changed and unchanged results produces the final change map. During the process of the airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system platform in space, platform attitude deflection is inevitable. However, large attitude deflection angles are unacceptable for polarimetric calibration using point targets, especially the dihedral, which is very sensitive to the pointing angle of the radar. To mitigate the impact of attitude angles on calibration accuracy, attitude compensation of the corner reflector is necessary during the calibration process. The conventional approach to attitude compensation typically maps the three-dimensional attitude angle information to the one-dimensional polarimetric orientation angle (POA) information. However, the reduction of dimension inevitably results in information loss, leading to errors that affect calibration performance when the attitude angle is large. In order to ensure the accuracy of point target calibration, this paper proposes a novel point target compensation method based on the reflection theory of electromagnetic waves. This method is based on three-dimensional attitude angle information and has higher reliability than the POA method. Finally, this paper calculates the distance between the scattering matrices obtained after compensation based on the proposed method and the POA method to obtain the difference in the performance of the two methods. Through a simulation, this paper finds that when the attitude angle is small, the results of the two schemes are approximately the same, but as the attitude angle increases, the error between the two gradually increases. This suggests that the proposed method has greater advantages in the case of attitude deflection. With the rapid development of Earth system science, a new understanding of the complete Earth system has highlighted the crucial importance of integrated observations, especially in research involving large-scale geoscience phenomena. As an active sensor with all-time and all-weather capabilities, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has been widely used in recent decades for Earth observation. However, the existing spaceborne, airborne, and ground-based SAR systems have difficulty providing temporally consistent and spatially continuous Earth observation data on a global scale. As Earth's only natural satellite, the Moon is a very promising Earth observation platform. By deploying a transmitter on the Moon and a receiver on the high-orbit satellite, a Moon-based/spaceborne bistatic synthetic aperture radar (MS-BiSAR) can be formed. In this paper, the MS-BiSAR geometric model of Earth observation was established using ephemeris and orbit propagators with reference system transformations, and three different MS-BiSAR configurations were used to calculate and analyze their geometric characteristics and Earth observation coverage. The results show that with the advantage of wide swaths, continuous observation capabilities, and large coverage, such an MS-BiSAR could significantly contribute to monitoring and understanding large-scale geoscience phenomena. Recently, deep learning techniques have been extensively used to detect ships in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The majority of modern algorithms can achieve successful ship detection outcomes when working with multiple-scale ships on a large sea surface. However, there are still issues, such as missed detection and incorrect identification when performing multi-scale ship object detection operations in SAR images of complex scenes. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a complex scenes multi-scale ship detection model, according to YOLOv7, called CSD-YOLO. First, this paper suggests an SAS-FPN module that combines atrous spatial pyramid pooling and shuffle attention, allowing the model to focus on important information and ignore irrelevant information, reduce the feature loss of small ships, and simultaneously fuse the feature maps of ship targets on various SAR image scales, thereby improving detection accuracy and the model's capacity to detect objects at several scales. The model's optimization is then improved with the aid of the SIoU loss function. Finally, thorough tests on the HRSID and SSDD datasets are presented to support our methodology. CSD-YOLO achieves better detection performance than the baseline YOLOv7, with a 98.01% detection accuracy, a 96.18% recall, and a mean average precision (mAP) of 98.60% on SSDD. Due to the advantages of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), the study of Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) has become a hot topic. Deep learning, especially in the case of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), works in an end-to-end way and has powerful feature-extracting abilities. Thus, researchers in SAR ATR also seek solutions from deep learning. We review the related algorithms with regard to SAR ATR in this paper. We firstly introduce the commonly used datasets and the evaluation metrics. Then, we introduce the algorithms before deep learning. They are template-matching-, machine-learning- and model-based methods. After that, we introduce mainly the SAR ATR methods in the deep-learning era (after 2017); those methods are the core of the paper. The non-CNNs and CNNs, that is, those used in SAR ATR, are summarized at the beginning. We found that researchers tend to design specialized CNN for SAR ATR. Then, the methods to solve the problem raised by limited samples are reviewed. They are data augmentation, Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), electromagnetic simulation, transfer learning, few-shot learning, semi-supervised learning, metric leaning and domain knowledge. After that, the imbalance problem, real-time recognition, polarimetric SAR, complex data and adversarial attack are also reviewed. The principles and problems of them are also introduced. Finally, the future directions are conducted. In this part, we point out that the dataset, CNN architecture designing, knowledge-driven, real-time recognition, explainable and adversarial attack should be considered in the future. The model-based polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) target decomposition decodes the scattering mechanism of the target by analyzing the essential scattering components. This paper presents a new general three-component scattering power decomposition method by establishing optimization problems. It is known that the existing three-component decomposition method prioritizes the contribution of volume scattering, which often leads to volume scattering energy overestimation and may make double-bounce scattering and odd-bounce scattering component power negative. In this paper, a full parameter optimization method based on the remainder matrix is proposed, where all the elements of the coherency matrix will be taken into account including the remaining T13 component. The optimization is achieved with no priority order by solving the problem using semi-definite programming (SDP) based on the Schur complement theory. By doing so, the problem of volume scattering energy overestimation and negative powers will be avoided. The performance of the proposed approach is demonstrated and evaluated with AIRSAR and GF-3 PolSAR data sets. The experimental results show that by using the proposed method, the power contributions of volume scattering in two sets of data were reduced by at least 2.6% and 3.7% respectively, compared to traditional methods. And the appearance of negative power of double-bounce scattering and odd-bounce scattering are also avoided compared with those of the existing three-component decomposition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LuTan-1 (LT-1) is a bistatic synthetic aperture radar (BiSAR) system consisting of two identical L-band SAR satellites. The bistatic mode of LT-1 plays a critical role in generating high-precision digital elevation models (DEMs), which requires precise geometric calibration of initial range and azimuth times for both SARs to ensure the reliability and quality of geolocation. However, existing geometric calibration methods predominantly focus on monostatic SAR systems, with limited literature on slave SAR calibration in bistatic systems. This research addresses this gap by establishing geometric calibration models for both SARs based on signal echo history and the range–Doppler model. The geometric errors are effectively resolved using corner reflector data from Xinjiang, China. Through statistical analysis of LT-1 SAR images acquired between July and November in bistatic mode, this paper has demonstrated range delay accuracy of better than 5 ns and azimuth time accuracy of better than 0.1 ms. This level of precision translates into a positional accuracy better than 0.8 m. The proposed models have been successfully applied to geometric calibration, providing precise geolocation for LT-1, thus enhancing its utility for a wide range of Earth observation applications. This paper is the first endeavor to present the assessment of the geometric calibration and geolocation accuracy of LT-1 and discuss the results of the bistatic geometric calibration of the master and slave SARs in a BiSAR formation. To explore the degree of constraint by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) data on the Maduo earthquake within a layered earth model structure and to gain an insight into the seismogenic mechanism and the seismic risk in the surrounding area, this study employs D-InSAR technology to acquire the InSAR co-seismic deformation field of the Maduo earthquake on 22 May 2021. Utilizing both GNSS and InSAR data, the inversions constrained by single and joint data are conducted and compared to determine the co-seismic slip model and fault plane stress distribution of the Maduo earthquake. Additionally, this paper calculates the Coulomb stress changes induced by 14 M ≥ 7 strong earthquakes, considering co-seismic effects, post-seismic viscoelastic relaxation, and inter-seismic tectonic stress loading, on 19 fault segments within the Bayan Har block research area (96°E~106°E, 29°N~36°N) since 1900. The findings are as follows: (1) The maximum line-of-sight (LOS) deformation was approximately 0.9 m. The joint inversion rupture was primarily located in the Dongcao Along Lake section (~98.6°E), aligning with previous research outcomes. (2) The cumulative Coulomb stress at the Maduo earthquake's source location was −0.1333 MPa, while the inter-seismic stress loading amounted to 0.0745 MPa. The East Kunlun Fault, Maduo–Gande Fault, Ganzi–Yushu Fault, and Dari Fault C exhibited considerable stress loading, warranting attention due to heightened seismic risk. (3) Based on three different co-seismic slip models, the stress disturbance results caused by the Maduo earthquake to the surrounding area and fault did not differ significantly. Ship classification using the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images has a significant role in remote sensing applications. Aiming at the problems of excessive model parameters numbers and high energy consumption in the traditional deep learning methods for the SAR ship classification, this paper provides an energy-efficient SAR ship classification paradigm that combines spiking neural networks (SNNs) with Siamese network architecture, for the first time in the field of SAR ship classification, which is called the Siam-SpikingShipCLSNet. It combines the advantage of SNNs in energy consumption and the advantage of the idea in performances that use the Siamese neuron network to fuse the features from dual-polarized SAR images. Additionally, we migrated the feature fusion strategy from CNN-based Siamese neural networks to the SNN domain and analyzed the effects of various spiking feature fusion methods on the Siamese SNN. Finally, an end-to-end error backpropagation optimization method based on the surrogate gradient has been adopted to train this model. Experimental results tested on the OpenSARShip2.0 dataset have demonstrated the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed SAR ship classification strategy, which has the advantages of the higher accuracy, fewer parameters and lower energy consumption compared with the mainstream deep learning method of the SAR ship classification. An efficient spectrum reconstruction algorithm based on the Tikhonov regularization for terahertz (THz) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) azimuth non-uniform sampling is proposed in this article. The high bandwidth, high azimuth resolution, and high frame rate characteristics of THz SAR contribute to its wide application prospects in both military and civilian remote sensing fields. However, the higher azimuth sampling rate also leads to the more severe non-uniform sampling issues of THz SAR. Traditional methods based on the hardware adjustment of pulse repetition frequency (PRF) and simple interpolation for azimuth resampling struggle to meet the higher imaging quality requirements. The back projection algorithm (BPA) can accurately focus non-uniformly sampled data but requires significant computational resources. The algorithm proposed in this paper, which can reconstruct the wavenumber spectrum of SAR azimuth non-uniformly sampled signals, transforms the spectrum reconstruction problem into a linear equation system and solves it using Tikhonov regularization, thereby exhibiting higher computational efficiency compared to BPA. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm is derived from precise theoretical formulations and controls the solution error by utilizing a regularization parameter, leading to a superior imaging quality compared to the azimuth resampling algorithm. In this paper, an accurate spectrum reconstruction formula of non-uniform sampling signals with a finite length is derived, the influence of noise error on the solution is analyzed, and the THz SAR azimuth non-uniform sampling signals are processed from the wavenumber domain. InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) is widely recognized as a crucial remote sensing tool for monitoring various geological disasters because it provides all-day and all-weather monitoring. Nevertheless, the current interpretation methods for InSAR heavily depend on the interpreter's experience, which hinders efficiency and fails to meet the requirements for the timely detection of geologic hazards. Furthermore, the results obtained through current InSAR processing carry inherent noise interference, further complicating the interpretation process. To address those issues, this paper proposes an approach that enables automatic and rapid identification of deformation zones. The proposed method leverages IPTA (Interferometric Point Target Analysis) technology for SAR data processing. It combines the power of HNSW (Hierarchical Navigable Small Word) and DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) algorithms to cluster deformation results. Compared with traditional methods, the computational efficiency of the proposed method is improved by 11.26 times, and spatial noise is suppressed. Additionally, the clustering results are fused with slope units determined using DEM (Digital Elevation Model), which facilitates the automatic identification of slopes experiencing deformation. The experimental verification in the western mountainous area of Beijing has identified 716 hidden danger areas, and this method is superior to the traditional technology in speed and automation. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image change detection is one of the most important applications in remote sensing. Before performing change detection, the original SAR image is often cropped to extract the region of interest (ROI). However, the size of the ROI often affects the change detection results. Therefore, it is necessary to detect changes using local information. This paper proposes a novel unsupervised change detection framework based on deep learning. The specific method steps are described as follows: First, we use histogram fitting error minimization (HFEM) to perform thresholding for a difference image (DI). Then, the DI is fed into a convolutional neural network (CNN). Therefore, the proposed method is called HFEM-CNN. We test three different CNN architectures called Unet, PSPNet and the designed fully convolutional neural network (FCNN) for the framework. The overall loss function is a weighted average of pixel loss and neighborhood loss. The weight between pixel loss and neighborhood loss is determined by the manually set parameter λ. Compared to other recently proposed methods, HFEM-CNN does not need a fragment removal procedure as post-processing. This paper conducts experiments for water and building change detection on three datasets. The experiments are divided into two parts: whole data experiments and random cropped data experiments. The complete experiments prove that the performance of the method in this paper is close to other methods on complete datasets. The random cropped data experiment is to perform local change detection using patches cropped from the whole datasets. The proposed method is slightly better than traditional methods in the whole data experiments. In experiments with randomly cropped data, the average kappa coefficient of our method on 63 patches is over 3.16% compared to other methods. The unique P-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) instrument, BIOMASS, is scheduled for launch in 2024. This satellite will enhance the estimation of subcanopy topography, owing to its strong penetration and fully polarimetric observation capability. In order to conduct global-scale mapping of the subcanopy topography, it is crucial to calibrate systematic errors of different strips through interferometric SAR (InSAR) DEM (digital elevation model) block adjustment. Furthermore, the BIOMASS mission will operate in repeat-pass interferometric mode, facing the atmospheric delay errors introduced by changes in atmospheric conditions. However, the existing block adjustment methods aim to calibrate systematic errors in bistatic mode, which can avoid possible errors from atmospheric effects through interferometry. Therefore, there is still a lack of systematic error calibration methods under the interference of atmospheric effects. To address this issue, we propose a block adjustment model considering atmospheric effects. Our model begins by employing the sub-aperture decomposition technique to form forward-looking and backward-looking interferograms, then multi-resolution weighted correlation analysis based on sub-aperture interferograms (SA-MRWCA) is utilized to detect atmospheric delay errors. Subsequently, the block adjustment model considering atmospheric effects can be established based on the SA-MRWCA. Finally, we use robust Helmert variance component estimation (RHVCE) to build the posterior stochastic model to improve parameter estimation accuracy. Due to the lack of spaceborne P-band data, this paper utilized L-band Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS)-1 PALSAR data, which is also long-wavelength, to emulate systematic error calibration of the BIOMASS mission. We chose climatically diverse inland regions of Asia and the coastal regions of South America to assess the model's effectiveness. The results show that the proposed block adjustment model considering atmospheric effects improved accuracy by 72.2% in the inland test site, with root mean square error (RMSE) decreasing from 10.85 m to 3.02 m. The continuous downward movement exhibited by the Lashagou landslide group in recent years poses a significant threat to the safety of both vehicles and pedestrians traversing the highway G310. By integrating geomorphological interpretation using multi-temporal optical images, interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) measurements, and continuous global navigation satellite system (GNSS) observations, this paper traced the formation period of the Lashagou landslide group, and explored its kinematic behavior under external drivers such as rainfall and snowmelt. The results indicate that the formation period can be specifically categorized into three periods: before, during, and after the construction of highway G310. The construction of highway G310 is the direct cause and prerequisite for the formation of the Lashagou landslide group, whereas summer precipitation and spring snowmelt are the external driving factors contributing to its continuous downward movement. Additionally, both the long-term seasonal downslope movement and transient acceleration events are strongly controlled by rainfall, and there is a time lag of approximately 1–2 days between the transient acceleration and heavy rainfall events. This study highlights the benefits of leveraging multi-source remote sensing data to investigate slow-moving landslides, which is advantageous for the implementation of effective control and engineering intervention to mitigate potential landslide disasters. The efficient and timely identification of oil spill areas is crucial for ocean environmental protection. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is widely used in oil spill detection due to its all-weather monitoring capability. Meanwhile, existing deep learning-based oil spill detection methods mainly rely on the classical U-Net framework and have achieved impressive results. However, SAR images exhibit high noise, blurry boundaries, and irregular shapes of target areas, as well as speckles and shadows, which lead to the loss of performance in existing algorithms. In this paper, we propose a novel network architecture to achieve more precise segmentation of oil spill areas by reintroducing rich semantic contextual information before obtaining the final segmentation mask. Specifically, the proposed architecture can re-fuse feature maps from different levels at the decoder end. We design a multi-convolutional layer (MCL) module to extract basic feature information from SAR images, and a feature extraction module (FEM) module further extracts and fuses feature maps generated by the U-Net decoder at different levels. Through these operations, the network can learn rich global and local contextual information, enable sufficient interaction of feature information at different stages, enhance the model's contextual awareness, and improve its ability to recognize complex textures and blurry boundaries, thereby enhancing the segmentation accuracy of SAR images. Polarimetric features extracted from polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) images contain abundant back-scattering information about objects. Utilizing this information for PolSAR image classification can improve accuracy and enhance object monitoring. In this paper, a deep learning classification method based on polarimetric channel power features for PolSAR is proposed. The distinctive characteristic of this method is that the polarimetric features input into the deep learning network are the power values of polarimetric channels and contain complete polarimetric information. The other two input data schemes are designed to compare the proposed method. The neural network can utilize the extracted polarimetric features to classify images, and the classification accuracy analysis is employed to compare the strengths and weaknesses of the power-based scheme. It is worth mentioning that the polarized characteristics of the data input scheme mentioned in this article have been derived through rigorous mathematical deduction, and each polarimetric feature has a clear physical meaning. By testing different data input schemes on the Gaofen-3 (GF-3) PolSAR image, the experimental results show that the method proposed in this article outperforms existing methods and can improve the accuracy of classification to a certain extent, validating the effectiveness of this method in large-scale area classification. The imaging of high-speed high-squint synthetic aperture radar (HSHS-SAR), which is mounted on maneuvering platforms with curved trajectory, is a challenging task due to the existence of 3-D acceleration and the azimuth spatial variability of range migration and Doppler parameters. Although existing imaging algorithms based on linear range walk correction (LRWC) and nonlinear chirp scaling (NCS) can reduce the range–azimuth coupling of the frequency spectrum (FS) and the spatial variability of the Doppler parameter to some extent, they become invalid as the squint angle, speed, and resolution increase. Additionally, most of them ignore the effect of acceleration phase calibration (APC) on NCS, which should not be neglected as resolution increases. For these issues, a modified frequency nonlinear chirp scaling (MFNCS) algorithm is proposed in this paper. The proposed MFNCS algorithm mainly includes the following aspects. First, a more accurate approximation of range model (MAARM) is established to improve the accuracy of the instantaneous slant range history. Second, a preprocessing of the proposed algorithm based on the first range compression, LRWC, and a spatial-invariant APC (SIVAPC) is implemented to eliminate most of the effects of high-squint angle and 3-D acceleration on the FS. Third, a spatial-variant APC (SVAPC) is performed to remove azimuth spatial variability introduced by 3-D acceleration, and the range focusing is accomplished by the bulk range cell migration correction (BRCMC) and extended secondary range compression (ESRC). Fourth, the azimuth-dependent characteristics evaluation based on LRWC, SIVAPC, and SVAPC is completed to derive the MFNCS algorithm with fifth-order chirp scaling function for azimuth compression. Consequently, the final image is focused on the range time and azimuth frequency domain. The experimental simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. With a curved trajectory, HSHS-SAR imaging is carried out at a 50° geometric squint angle and 500 m × 500 m imaging width. The integrated sidelobe ratio and peak sidelobe ratio of the point targets at the scenario edges approach the theoretical values, and the range-azimuth resolution is 1.5 m × 3.0 m. Single-phase center multiple azimuth beam (SPC MAB) mode is an effective method for high-resolution wide-swath (HRWS) SAR imaging. The traditional azimuth spectrum reconstruction method for SPC MAB mode is based on the combination scheme from which fake targets along the azimuth direction arise because the inter-beam interference is not considered. When the real antenna mode is inconsistent with the ideal one, the disadvantages of the combination scheme become more serious. In this paper, based on the basic theory of the low-pass, band-limited, multiple-channel under-sampling and reconstruction, a novel digital beam-forming method is proposed for the SPC MAB imaging mode with ideal antenna mode first. The method analyzes the system functions of the sub-beams, based on which digital beam-forming filters are designed for all the sub-beams. The designed filters can reconstruct the correct wide-bandwidth azimuth spectrum and suppress the inter-beam interference simultaneously. Furthermore, the proposed method is extended to SPC MAB mode with the non-ideal antenna mode. As the demand for precise navigation of aircraft increases in modern society, researching high-precision, high-autonomy navigation systems is both theoretically valuable and practically significant. Because the inertial navigation system (INS) has systematic and random errors, its output information diverges. Therefore, it is necessary to combine them with other navigation systems for real-time compensation and correction of these errors. The SAR matching positioning and navigation system uses synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image matching for platform positioning and compensates for the drift caused by errors in the inertial measurement unit (IMU). Images obtained by SAR are matched with digital landmark data, and the platform's position is calculated based on the SAR imaging geometry. However, SAR matching positioning faces challenges due to seasonal variations in SAR images, the need for typical landmarks for matching, and the lack of elevation information in two-dimensional SAR image matching. This paper proposes an airborne platform positioning method based on interferometric SAR (InSAR) interferogram matching. InSAR interferograms contain terrain elevation information, are less affected by seasonal changes, and provide higher positioning accuracy and robustness. By matching real-time InSAR-processed interferograms with simulated interferograms using a digital elevation model (DEM), three-dimensional position information about the matching points has been obtained. Subsequently, a three-dimensional positioning model for the platform has bene established using the unit line-of-sight vector decomposition method. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has the advantage of continuous observation throughout the day and in all weather conditions, and is used in a wide range of military and civil applications. Among these, the detection of ships at sea is an important research topic. Ships in SAR images are characterized by dense alignment, an arbitrary orientation and multiple scales. The existing detection algorithms are unable to solve these problems effectively. To address these issues, A YOLOV8-based oriented ship detection and classification method using SAR imaging with lightweight receptor field feature convolution, bottleneck transformers and a probabilistic intersection-over-union network (R-LRBPNet) is proposed in this paper. First, a CSP bottleneck with two bottleneck transformer (C2fBT) modules based on bottleneck transformers is proposed; this is an improved feature fusion module that integrates the global spatial features of bottleneck transformers and the rich channel features of C2f. This effectively reduces the negative impact of densely arranged scenarios. Second, we propose an angle decoupling module. This module uses probabilistic intersection-over-union (ProbIoU) and distribution focal loss (DFL) methods to compute the rotated intersection-over-union (RIoU), which effectively alleviates the problem of angle regression and the imbalance between angle regression and other regression tasks. Third, the lightweight receptive field feature convolution (LRFConv) is designed to replace the conventional convolution in the neck. This module can dynamically adjust the receptive field according to the target scale and calculate the feature pixel weights based on the input feature map. Through this module, the network can efficiently extract details and important information about ships to improve the classification performance of the ship. We conducted extensive experiments on the complex scene SAR dataset SRSDD and SSDD+. The experimental results show that R-LRBPNet has only 6.8 MB of model memory, which can achieve 78.2% detection accuracy, 64.2% recall, a 70.51 F1-Score and 71.85% mAP on the SRSDD dataset. The utilization of deep learning in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) has witnessed a recent surge owing to its remarkable feature extraction capabilities. Nonetheless, deep learning methodologies are often encumbered by inadequacies in labeled data and the protracted nature of training processes. To address these challenges and offer an alternative avenue for accurately extracting image features, this paper puts forth a novel and distinctive network dubbed the Capsule Broad Learning System Network for robust SAR ATR (CBLS-SARNET). This novel strategy is specifically tailored to cater to small-sample SAR ATR scenarios. On the one hand, we introduce a United Division Co-training (UDC) Framework as a feature filter, adeptly amalgamating CapsNet and the Broad Learning System (BLS) to enhance network efficiency and efficacy. On the other hand, we devise a Parameters Sharing (PS) network to facilitate secondary learning by sharing the weight and bias of BLS node layers, thereby augmenting the recognition capability of CBLS-SARNET. Experimental results unequivocally demonstrate that our proposed CBLS-SARNET outperforms other deep learning methods in terms of recognition accuracy and training time. Furthermore, experiments validate the generalization and robustness of our novel method under various conditions, including the addition of blur, Gaussian noise, noisy labels, and different depression angles. Ground deformation is one of the crucial issues threatening many cities in both societal and economic aspects. Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) has been widely used for deformation monitoring. Recently, there has been an increasing availability of massive archives of SAR images from various satellites or sensors. This paper introduces Multi-Satellite SBAS that exploits complementary information from different SAR data to generate integrated long-term ground displacement time series. The proposed method is employed to create the vertical displacement maps of Almokattam City in Egypt from 2000 to 2020. The experimental results are promising using ERS, ENVISAT ASAR, and Sentinel-1A displacement integration. There is a remarkable deformation in the vertical direction along the west area while the mean deformation velocity is −2.32 mm/year. Cross-validation confirms that the root mean square error (RMSE) did not exceed 2.8 mm/year. In addition, the research findings are comparable to those of the previous research in the study area. Consequently, the proposed integration method has great potential to generate displacement time series based on multi-satellite SAR data; however, it still requires further evaluation using field measurements. Frequency synchronization error, as one of the inevitable technical challenges in distributed synthetic aperture radar (SAR), has different impacts on different SAR systems. Multi-monostatic SAR is a typical distributed configuration where frequency synchronization errors are tiny in distributed airborne and low earth orbit (LEO) SAR systems. However, due to the long time delay and long synthetic aperture time, the imaging performance of a multi-monostatic geosynchronous (GEO) SAR system is affected by frequency oscillator errors. In this paper, to investigate the frequency synchronization problem in this configuration, we firstly model the echo signals with the frequency synchronization errors, which can be divided into fixed frequency errors and random phase noise. Secondly, we talk about the impacts of the two kinds of errors on imaging performance. To solve the problem, we thirdly propose an autofocus back-projection (ABP) algorithm, which adopts the coordinate descent method and iteratively adjusts the phase error estimation until the image reaches its maximum sharpness. Based on the characteristics of the frequency synchronization errors, we further propose the Node ABP (NABP) algorithm, which greatly reduces the amount of storage and computation compared to the ABP algorithm. High-resolution wide-swath (HRWS) imaging is the research focus of the modern spaceborne synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) imaging field, with significant relevance and vast application potential. Staggered SAR, as an innovative imaging system, mitigates blind areas across the entire swath by periodically altering the radar pulse repetition interval (PRI), thereby extending the swath width to multiples of that achievable by conventional systems. However, the staggered mode introduces inherent challenges, such as nonuniform azimuth sampling and echo data loss, leading to azimuth ambiguities and substantially impacting image quality. This paper proposes a sparse SAR imaging method for the low-oversampled staggered mode via compound regularization. The proposed method not only effectively suppresses azimuth ambiguities arising from nonuniform sampling without necessitating the restoration of missing echo data, but also incorporates total variation (TV) regularization into the sparse reconstruction model. This enhances the accurate reconstruction of distributed targets within the scene. Although graph convolutional networks have found application in polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image classification tasks, the available approaches cannot operate on multiple graphs, which hinders their potential to generalize effective feature representations across different datasets. To overcome this limitation and achieve robust PolSAR image classification, this paper proposes a novel end-to-end cross-level interaction graph U-Net (CLIGUNet), where weighted max-relative spatial convolution is proposed to enable simultaneous learning of latent features from batch input. Moreover, it integrates weighted adjacency matrices, derived from the symmetric revised Wishart distance, to encode polarimetric similarity into weighted max-relative spatial graph convolution. Employing end-to-end trainable residual transformers with multi-head attention, our proposed cross-level interactions enable the decoder to fuse multi-scale graph feature representations, enhancing effective features from various scales through a deep supervision strategy. Additionally, multi-scale dynamic graphs are introduced to expand the receptive field, enabling trainable adjacency matrices with refined connectivity relationships and edge weights within each resolution. Experiments undertaken on real PolSAR datasets show the superiority of our CLIGUNet with respect to state-of-the-art networks in classification accuracy and robustness in handling unknown imagery with similar land covers. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (InSAR) is a well-established remote sensing technique capable of providing accurate topographic information of an area. Multiple scattering occurring at different heights within a single resolution cell, however, cannot be resolved using a single baseline and results in a degradation of the height accuracy. Techniques such as polarimetric InSAR and SAR tomography tackle this problem using additional measurements to obtain the three-dimensional structure of the volume. However, polarimetry-based methods assume orthogonal and deterministic scattering mechanisms and tomography requires numerous observations. This paper presents a novel approach to retrieving the three-dimensional structure of semitransparent media using wide fractional bandwidth InSAR. The frequency dependency of the InSAR coherence is exploited to retrieve the three-dimensional structure, assuming that signals with wide fractional bandwidth are available, as is the case for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones. As the extinction is, in general, frequency-dependent, a third observation may improve the inversion results. Simulations of different scenarios show that the frequency profile can be inverted to obtain information about the three-dimensional scattering structure. The acquired data also enable retrieval of the phase center depth as a function of frequency. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite image ortho-rectification requires pixel-level calculations, which are time-consuming. Moreover, for SAR images with large overlapping areas, the processing time for ortho-rectification increases linearly, significantly reducing the efficiency of SAR satellite image mosaic. This paper thoroughly analyzes two geometric positioning models for SAR images. In order to address the high computation time of pixel-by-pixel ortho-rectification in SAR satellite images, a GPU-accelerated pixel-by-pixel correction method based on a rational polynomial coefficients (RPCs) model is proposed, which improves the efficiency of SAR satellite image ortho-rectification. Furthermore, in order to solve the problem of linearly increasing processing time for the ortho-rectification of multiple SAR images in large overlapping areas, a multi-GPU collaborative acceleration strategy for the ortho-rectification of multiple SAR images in large overlapping areas is proposed, achieving efficient ortho-rectification processing of multiple SAR image data in large overlapping areas. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) plays a crucial role in maritime surveillance due to its capability for all-weather, all-day operation. However, SAR ship recognition faces challenges, primarily due to the imbalance and inadequacy of ship samples in publicly available datasets, along with the presence of numerous outliers. To address these issues, this paper proposes a SAR ship classification method based on text-generated images to tackle dataset imbalance. Firstly, an image generation module is introduced to augment SAR ship data. This method generates images from textual descriptions to overcome the problem of insufficient samples and the imbalance between ship categories. Secondly, given the limited information content in the black background of SAR ship images, the Tokens-to-Token Vision Transformer (T2T-ViT) is employed as the backbone network. This approach effectively combines local information on the basis of global modeling, facilitating the extraction of features from SAR images. Finally, a Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) model is incorporated into the backbone network to enhance the network's focus on essential features, thereby improving the model's generalization ability. To assess the model's effectiveness, extensive experiments were conducted on the OpenSARShip2.0 and FUSAR-Ship datasets. The performance evaluation results indicate that the proposed method achieves higher classification accuracy in the context of imbalanced datasets compared to eight existing methods. Oceanic targets, including ripples, islands, vessels, and coastlines, display distinct sparse characteristics, rendering the ocean a significant arena for sparse Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging rooted in sparse signal processing. Deep neural networks (DNNs), a current research emphasis, have, when integrated with sparse SAR, attracted notable attention for their exceptional imaging capabilities and high computational efficiency. Yet, the efficiency of traditional unfolding techniques is impeded by their architecturally inefficient design, which curtails their information transmission capacity and consequently detracts from the quality of reconstruction. This paper unveils a novel Memory-Augmented Deep Unfolding Network (MADUN) for SAR imaging in marine environments. Our methodology harnesses the synergies between deep learning and algorithmic unfolding, enhanced with a memory component, to elevate SAR imaging's computational precision. At the heart of our investigation is the incorporation of High-Throughput Short-Term Memory (HSM) and Cross-Stage Long-Term Memory (CLM) within the MADUN framework, ensuring robust information flow across unfolding stages and solidifying the foundation for deep, long-term informational correlations. Surface water is a vital component of the Earth's water cycle and characterizing its dynamics is essential for understanding and managing our water resources. Satellite-based remote sensing has been used to monitor surface water dynamics, but cloud cover can obscure surface observations, particularly during flood events, hindering water identification. The fusion of optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data leverages the advantages of both sensors to provide accurate surface water maps while increasing the temporal density of unobstructed observations for monitoring surface water spatial dynamics. This paper presents a method for generating dense time series of surface water observations using optical–SAR sensor fusion and gap filling. We applied this method to data from the Copernicus Sentinel-1 and Landsat 8 satellite data from 2019 over six regions spanning different ecological and climatological conditions. We validated the resulting surface water maps using an independent, hand-labeled dataset and found an overall accuracy of 0.9025, with an accuracy range of 0.8656–0.9212 between the different regions. The validation showed an overall false alarm ratio (FAR) of 0.0631, a probability of detection (POD) of 0.8394, and a critical success index (CSI) of 0.8073, indicating that the method generally performs well at identifying water areas. However, it slightly underpredicts water areas with more false negatives. We found that fusing optical and SAR data for surface water mapping increased, on average, the number of observations for the regions and months validated in 2019 from 11.46 for optical and 55.35 for SAR to 64.90 using both, a 466% and 17% increase, respectively. The results show that the method can effectively fill in gaps in optical data caused by cloud cover and produce a dense time series of surface water maps. Ground-Based Synthetic Aperture Radar (GB-SAR), due to its high precision, high resolution, and real-time capabilities, is widely used in the detection of slope deformations. However, the weak scattering coefficient in low-coherence areas poses a great challenge to the observation point selection accuracy. This paper introduces a selection process for reliable observation points that integrates phase and spatial information. First, for various observation points with differentiated stability, we propose to utilize maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) methods to achieve stability assessment. Second, a phase correction approach is proposed to address unwrapped phase errors encountered at less stable points. Third, adaptive filtering for deformation information at observation points is achieved using estimated variance combined with wavelet filtering thresholds. Finally, in dealing with unknown deformation trends, we propose utilizing a clustering method to accurately identify these trends, thereby enhancing the precision in identifying reliable observation points (ROPs). The experimental results demonstrate that this method enhances the accuracy of observation point selection in low-coherence areas, providing a broader observational field for deformation detection. Operating mode identification is an important prerequisite for precise deceptive jamming technology against synthetic aperture radar (SAR). In order to solve the problems of traditional spaceborne SAR operating mode identification, such as low identification accuracy, poor timeliness, and limitation to main lobe reconnaissance, an efficient identification method based on sidelobe reconnaissance and machine learning is proposed in this paper. It can identify four classical SAR operating modes, including stripmap, scan, spotlight and ground moving target indication (GMTI). Firstly, the signal models of different operating modes are presented from the perspective of sidelobe reconnaissance. By setting the parameters differently, such as the SAR trajectory height, antenna length, transmit/receive gain and loss, signal–noise ratio, and so on, the feature samples based on multiple parameters can be obtained, respectively. Then, based on the generated database of feature samples, the initialized neural network can be pre-trained. As a result, in practice, with the intercepted sidelobe signal and the pre-trained network, we can precisely infer the SAR operating mode before the arrival of the main lobe beam footprint. Finally, the effect of SNR and the jammer's position on the identification accuracy is experimentally detailed in the simulation. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an important tool for observing the oceanic internal wave phenomenon. However, owing to the unstable imaging quality of SAR on oceanic internal waves, the texture details of internal wave images are usually unclear, which is not conducive to the subsequent applications of the images. To cope with this problem, a texture enhancement method for oceanic internal wave SAR images is proposed in this paper, which is based on non-local mean (NLM) filtering and texture layer enhancement (TLE). Since the strong speckle noise commonly present in internal wave images is simultaneously enhanced during texture enhancement, resulting in degraded image quality, NLM filtering is first performed to suppress speckle noise. Then, the denoised image is decomposed into the structure layer and the texture layer, and a texture layer enhancement method oriented to the texture characteristics of oceanic internal waves is proposed and applied. Finally, the enhanced texture layer and the structure layer are combined to reconstruct the final enhanced image. Experiments are conducted based on the Gaofen-3 real SAR data, and the results demonstrate that the proposed method performs well in suppressing speckle noise, maintaining overall image brightness, and enhancing internal wave texture details. Geosynchronous spaceborne–airborne (GEO-SA) ultra-high-frequency ultra-wideband bistatic synthetic aperture radar (UHF UWB BiSAR) provides high-precision images for marine and polar environments, which are pivotal in glacier monitoring and sea ice thickness measurement for polar ocean mapping and navigation. Contrasting with traditional high-frequency BiSAR, it faces unique challenges, such as the considerable spatial variability, significant range–azimuth coupling, and vast volumes of echo data, which impede high-resolution image reconstruction. This paper presents an improved bistatic nonlinear chirp scaling (NLCS) algorithm for imaging oceanic scenes with GEO-SA UHF UWB BiSAR. This methodology extends the two-dimensional (2-D) spectrum up to the sixth order via the method of series reversion (MSR) to meet accuracy demands and then employs an elliptical model to elucidate the alterations in the azimuth frequency modulation (FM) rate mismatch. Initially, the imaging geometry and signal model are introduced, and then a separation of bistatic slant ranges based on the configuration is proposed. In addition, during range processing, after eliminating linear range cell migration (RCM), the derivation process for the sixth-order 2-D spectrum is detailed and an improved filter is applied to correct the high-order RCM. Finally, during azimuth processing, the causes of the FM rate mismatch are analyzed, a cubic perturbation function derived from the elliptical model is used for FM rate equalization, and a unified sixth-order filter is applied to complete the azimuth compression. Experimental results with point targets and natural oceanic scenes validate the outstanding efficacy of the proposed NLCS algorithm, particularly in imaging quality enhancements for GEO-SA UHF UWB BiSAR. The accurate estimation of forest aboveground biomass is of great significance for forest management and carbon balance monitoring. Remote sensing instruments have been widely applied in forest parameters inversion with wide coverage and high spatiotemporal resolution. In this paper, the capability of different remote-sensed imagery was investigated, including multispectral images (GaoFen-6, Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8) and various SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) data (GaoFen-3, Sentinel-1, ALOS-2), in aboveground forest biomass estimation. In particular, based on the forest inventory data of Hangzhou in China, the Random Forest (RF), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Convolutional Neural Networks Long Short-Term Memory Networks (CNN-LSTM) algorithms were deployed to construct the forest biomass estimation models, respectively. The estimate accuracies were evaluated under the different configurations of images and methods. The results show that for the SAR data, ALOS-2 has a higher biomass estimation accuracy than the GaoFen-3 and Sentinel-1. Moreover, the GaoFen-6 data is slightly worse than Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8 optical data in biomass estimation. In contrast with the single source, integrating multisource data can effectively enhance accuracy, with improvements ranging from 5% to 10%. The CNN-LSTM generally performs better than CNN and RF, regardless of the data used. The combination of CNN-LSTM and multisource data provided the best results in this case and can achieve the maximum R2 value of up to 0.74. It was found that the majority of the biomass values in the study area in 2018 ranged from 60 to 90 Mg/ha, with an average value of 64.20 Mg/ha. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Building change detection (BCD) plays a vital role in city planning and development, ensuring the timely detection of urban changes near metro lines. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has the advantage of providing continuous image time series with all-weather and all-time capabilities for earth observation compared with optical remote sensors. Deep learning algorithms have extensively been applied for BCD to realize the automatic detection of building changes. However, existing deep learning-based BCD methods with SAR images suffer limited accuracy due to the speckle noise effect and insufficient feature extraction. In this paper, an attention-guided dual-branch fusion network (ADF-Net) is proposed for urban BCD to address this limitation. Specifically, high-resolution SAR images collected by TerraSAR-X have been utilized to detect building changes near metro line 8 in Shanghai with the ADF-Net model. In particular, a dual-branch structure is employed in ADF-Net to extract heterogeneous features from radiometrically calibrated TerraSAR-X images and log ratio images (i.e., difference images (DIs) in dB scale). In addition, the attention-guided cross-layer addition (ACLA) blocks are used to precisely locate the features of changed areas with the transformer-based attention mechanism, and the global attention mechanism with the residual unit (GAM-RU) blocks is introduced to enhance the representation learning capabilities and solve the problems of gradient fading. The effectiveness of ADF-Net is verified using evaluation metrics. The results demonstrate that ADF-Net generates better building change maps than other methods, including U-Net, FC-EF, SNUNet-CD, A2Net, DMINet, USFFCNet, EATDer, and DRPNet. As a result, some building area changes near metro line 8 in Shanghai have been accurately detected by ADF-Net. Tidal flats are some of the most dynamic coastal environments in the world, where traditional coastal mapping and monitoring provide insufficient temporal resolution to reliably map channels and sand flats. Satellite-based Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) enables regular cloud-penetrating detection of water flowing through channels within the tidal flats, referred to as tidal channels. This paper presents a method for detecting a path through tidal channels, using satellite imagery, that supports our understanding and safe exploitation of this valuable coastal environment. This approach is the first proposed to identify navigable paths in all conditions, with SAR images susceptible to variation due to weather and tidal conditions. Tidal channels are known to vary in SAR presentation, and we find that tidal flat presentation is also influenced by conditions. The most influential factor is the wind, with high winds causing an inversion in how both tidal flats and tidal channels present in SAR images. The presented method for the automatic detection of tidal channels accounts for this variability by using previous channel paths as a reference to reliably correct imagery and detect the latest path. The final algorithm produces paths with minor errors in 17.6% of images; the error rate increases to 71.7%, with an almost tenfold increase in errors, when the SAR image and paths are not adjusted to account for conditions. This capability has been used to support the Nith Inshore Rescue in attending call-outs from their base in Glencaple, UK, while the insights from monitoring tidal channels for a year demonstrate how periods of high river flow preceded major changes in the channel path.
