This paper examines the origin and evolution of the Scholarship for Amazonian Native Communities, Beca 18 (CNA) in Peru from 2014 and 2021, focusing on the perspective of both the national indigenous federation, Aidesep and the National Program of Scholarships and Educational Credit (Pronabec). The research methodology combines the analysis of institutional documents and in-depth interviews with members of both institutions. We highlight Aidesep's initiative to establish a dialogue with Pronabec in 2013, the collaborative efforts between Aidesep and Pronabec during the early years of the scholarship, and the lack of publicly available statistics, particularly regarding the retention and graduation of indigenous university students. Both institutions identify the "loss of the scholarship" as amajor limitation, though each has different views on providing support to students to help them complete their studies. The Amazonian notion of 'getting usedd to' (acostumbrarse) emerges as a key element of the indigenous approach to supporting indigenous students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El espíritu de este ensayo es poner en diálogo las nociones de ‘cuerpo’ y ‘alma’ narradas por los indígenas qom del Gran Chaco Argentino y los sucesos desplegados por la actual pandemia de Sars-Cov-2. Iniciaremos nuestro desarrollo contemplando la escena de la llegada de los españoles a América y la inversión que hoy se presenta respecto a los diacríticos expresados en aquella época. Con el fin de ‘familiarizar’ al virus, lo llamaremos ‘Covi-cho’ y lo situaremos en tensión con la entidad patogénica que los indígenas componen. A su vez examinaremos diversos fines de mundo experimentados por los colectivos indígenas de Argentina. El objetivo será detallar qué nos enseñan estos otros fines de mundos con sus devenires particulares y cuáles son los tips que, poniendo en tensión una multiplicidad de cuerpos e interioridades humanas y no-humanas, podríamos agregar a los ya consabidos y promocionados desde las esferas estatales.

Lately, the concept of domestication, like depicted in the Great Narrative with its basis in the history of Near East, is passing through strong criticism. In the context of the discussion about Anthropic Amazon, the concept has gained different shades and has been amplified and dissociated from the notion of agriculture and sedentarism. This work has a double objective: near or intertwine the narrative lines between the bias of the debate about the domestication of Amazonian forests; and show there are other practices or kinds of relations between humans and plants that are out of range to the idea of domestication. We intend to point out in this brief reflection the constitution of spaces for debates and political struggle that indigenous populations in the state of Roraima have been carrying out and disseminating through electronic sites and virtual media, given the critical framework of care and public health service provision in the midst of to the Covid-19 pandemic, calling attention to the negative impacts that exogenous presence in indigenous lands cause, many of them due to the invasion and exploitation of territories against the will of these populations. The "new disease" is associated with political problems concealed by the developmentalist discourse, which are inserted in the governmental economic agendas for the Amazon. In this context, the disease represents a violent mechanism to control these populations, which, in addition to not being immune to the virus, are also not immune to the non-indigenous presence and all its technological paraphernalia. In this study we present an overview of the dissemination of the new Coronavirus (SARS-Cov-2) in the municipalities of the Alto Solimões micro-region in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. The data used comes from the Monitoring System of cases of COVID-19 infection in the municipalities of the State of Amazonas, and from the Monitoring System of cases of COVID-19 among indigenous peoples in Brazil, which are organized in the database and WebSig coordinated by researchers from the federal universities of Rio Grande do Sul and Amazonas, and the university of the State of Amazonas. We systematize and analyze information from municipal and state public agencies responsible for preventing and combating the pandemic, giving special attention to data on indigenous health, present in the bulletins of the Special Secretary of Indigenous Health, but, which are questioned by reports made by indigenous organizations. By comparing these data with the geographical, political and socio-economic characteristics of the Alto Solimões microregion, the numbers of new coronavirus infections and of deaths resulting from complications of the disease, we forecast a scenario of vulnerability and risk for the population, especially for the indigenous peoples. The ineffectiveness of public health policies in the context of the pandemic reveals a worsening of situations in which the services and actions of health professionals are deficient, which favours the spread of the virus in a cross-border context. En general, el conocimiento que se tiene sobre la situación de los modos de vida indígena en la Amazonia colombiana se caracteriza por una falta de información sobre sus particularidades y los impactos más relevantes de las políticas y acciones de desarrollo en sus territorios. El artículo se propone dar a conocer un diálogo de saberes a nivel intercultural que permitió la construcción de una propuesta de Indicadores del Bienestar Humano (ibhi) para pueblos indígenas, sobre la base de un concepto de bienestar humano en términos de la “abundancia”, que se sustenta en valores como el conocimiento tradicional, el reconocimiento social y cultural, los códigos de conducta éticos y espirituales en relación con la sociedad y la naturaleza. Los ibhi son un instrumento de información que sirve de soporte en los procesos de discusión y negociación sobre las políticas públicas que lleve adelante el Estado con los pueblos indígenas en la Amazonia colombiana. Permiten además evaluar los modos de vida indígena en el marco de las siguientes capacidades de las sociedades indígenas en la Amazonia colombiana: control colectivo de los territorios, agencia cultural autónoma, autosuficiencia alimentaria, lograr un ambiente tranquilo, el cuidado y la reproducción.

The paper presents an integrating approach of conceptual issues to evaluate the wellbeing in indigenous communities. The approach recognizes the consensual absence of a “wellbeing” definition. Therefore, understanding the local concepts of wellbeing could help develop planning tools for decision-makers in indigenous societies contexts. The approach is based on the concept of capacities developed by A. Sen in which a group of human wellbeing indicators are constructed and where cultural issues might be included without affecting the power of the indicator. A study with Uitoto (múrui-muina-mɨnɨka) and the called People of the Center indigenous groups of the Northern Amazonia has been done to discuss their particular idea of what wellbeing is. It is a concept the People of the Center summarizes in the word monifue (abundance). This concept is the result of the analysis of their symbolic and ritual contexts. The concept has been actualized through the time and today integrate issues of their contemporary life style. The paper describes some elements derived of this concept, and contributes to the conceptualization of issues that might be used in a valid model to describe the life style of these indigenous societies. The discussion of the paper is not based on technical issues of the model yet. The discussion define some limits where the variables to measure and relate should be placed. This is an important result about the understanding of the concept wellbeing of these indigenous societies and the elements that require to be transformed in concrete indicators.

Through ethnographic methods applied to the 2011 elections for Governor of the department of Amazonas and for Mayor of its capital city, Leticia, the main purpose of this article is to analyze the electoral behavior of Amazonian populations and the economic and political forces involved in its institutional and social control; these facts reflect a political reality that appears to repeat itself in history, and, specifically, in future elections. The central discussion is aimed to understand the complex social, economic and cultural networks that participate in the political exercise of the department of Amazonas, a convoluted scenario configured by broad international borders with Peru and Brazil, tense cultural encounters between indigenous and non-indigenous populations and by the participation of national policy-makers whose interest is to control local realities.
