This study aimed to explore the co-application of MnSO 4 (Mn) and biochar (BC) in nitrogen conversion during the composting process. A 70-day aerobic composting was conducted using swine slurry, supplemented with different levels of Mn (0, 0.25%, and 0.5%) and 5% BC. The results demonstrated that the treatment with 0.5MnBC had the highest levels of NH 4 + -N (3.07 g kg -1 ), TKN (29.90 g kg -1 ), and NO 3 - -N (1.94 g kg -1 ) among all treatments. Additionally, the 0.5MnBC treatment demonstrated higher urease, protease, nitrate reductase, and nitrite reductase activities than the other treatments, with the peak values of 18.12, 6.96, 3.57, and 15.14 mg g -1 d -1 , respectively. The addition of Mn 2+ increased the total organic nitrogen content by 29.59%-47.82%, the acid hydrolyzed ammonia nitrogen (AN) content by 13.84%-57.86% and the amino acid nitrogen (AAN) content by 55.38%-77.83%. The richness of Chloroflexi and Ascomycota was also enhanced by the simultaneous application of BC and Mn. Structural equation modeling analysis showed that Mn 2+ can promote the conversion of Hydrolyzed Unknown Nitrogen (HUN) into AAN, and there is a positive association between urease and NH 4 + -N according to redundancy analysis. Firmicutes, Basidiomycota, and Mortierellomycota showed significant positive correlations with ASN, AN, and NH 4 + -N, indicating their crucial roles in nitrogen conversion. In recent years, there has been a marked increase in the production of excess sludge. Chain-elongation (CE) fermentation presents a promising approach for carbon resource recovery from sludge, enabling the transformation of carbon into medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). However, the impact of sulfate, commonly presents in sludge, on the CE process remains largely unexplored. In this study, batch tests for CE process of sludge anaerobic fermentation liquid (SAFL) under different SCOD/SO 4 2− ratios were performed. The moderate sulfate reduction under the optimum SCOD/SO 4 2− of 20:1 enhanced the n-caproate production, giving the maximum n-caproate concentration, selectivity and production rate of 5.49 g COD/L, 21.4% and 4.87 g COD/L/d, respectively. The excessive sulfate reduction under SCOD/SO 4 2− ≤ 5 completely inhibited the CE process, resulting in almost no n-caproate generation. The variations in n-caproate production under different conditions of SCOD/SO 4 2− were all well fitted with the modified Gompertz kinetic model. Alcaligenes and Ruminococcaceae_UCG-014 were the dominant genus-level biomarkers under moderate sulfate reduction (SCOD/SO 4 2− = 20), which enhanced the n-caproate production by increasing the generation of acetyl-CoA and the hydrolysis of difficult biodegradable substances in SAFL. The findings presented in this work elucidate a strategy and provide a theoretical framework for the further enhancement of MCFAs production from excess sludge. During the long-term stabilization process of landfills, the pressure field undergoes constant changes. This study constructed dynamic pressure changes scenarios of high-pressure differentials (0.6 MPa) and low-pressure differentials (0.2 MPa) in the landfill pressure field at 25 °C and 50 °C, and investigated the sulfate reduction behavior in response to landfill dynamic pressure changes. The results showed that the pressurization or depressurization of high-pressure differentials caused more significant differences in sulfate reduction behavior than that of low-pressure differentials. The lowest hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) release peak concentration under pressurization was only 29.67% of that under initial pressure condition; under depressurization, the highest peak concentration of H 2 S was up to 21,828 mg m−3, posing a serious risk of H 2 S pollution. Microbial community and correlation analysis showed that pressure had a negative impact on the sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) community, and the SRB community adjusted its structure to adapt to pressure changes. Specific SRBs were further enriched with pressure changes. Differential H 2 S release behavior under pressure changes in the 25 °C pressure environments were mediated by Desulfofarcimen (ASV343) and Desulfosporosinus (ASV1336), while Candidatus Desulforudis (ASV24) and Desulfohalotomaculum (ASV94) played a key role at 50 °C. Methane-driven hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) reduction in a microbial fuel cell (MFC) has attracted much attention. However, whether the presence of sulfate (SO 4 2−) affects the reduction of Cr(VI) is still lacking in systematic studies. This study involved constructing a MFC-granular sludge (MFC-GS) coupling system with dissolved methane (CH 4) was used as the electron donor to investigate the effect of SO 4 2− on Cr(VI) bioreduction, sludge characteristic, and functional metabolic mechanisms. When the SO 4 2− concentration was 10 mg/L, the average removal rate of Cr(VI) in the anaerobic stage decreased to the lowest value (22.25 ± 2.06%). Adding 10 mg/L SO 4 2− obviously inhibited the electrochemical performance of the system. Increasing SO 4 2− concentration weakened the fluorescence peaks of tryptophan and aromatic proteins in the extracellular polymeric substance of sludge. Under the influence of SO 4 2−, Methanothrix_soehngenii decreased from 14.44% to 5.89%. The relative abundance of methane metabolic was down-regulated from 1.47% to 0.98%, while the sulfur metabolic was up-regulated from 0.09% to 0.21% when SO 4 2− was added. Sulfidation enhances the reactivity of zero-valent iron (ZVI) for Cr(VI) removal from groundwater. Current sulfidation methods mainly focus on chemical and mechanical sulfidation, and there has been little research on biosulfidation using sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and its performance in Cr(VI) removal. Herein, the ability of the SRB-biosulfidated ZVI (SRB-ZVI) system was evaluated and compared with that of the Na 2 S-sulfidated ZVI system. The SRB-ZVI system forms a thicker and more porous FeS x layer than the Na 2 S-sulfidated ZVI system, resulting in more sufficient sulfidation of ZVI and a 2.5-times higher Cr(VI) removal rate than that of the Na 2 S-sulfidated ZVI system. The biosulfidated-ZVI granules and FeS x suspension are the major components of the SRB-ZVI system. The SRB-ZVI system exhibits a long-lasting (11 cycles) Cr(VI) removal performance owing to the regeneration of FeS x . However, the Na 2 S-sulfidated ZVI system can perform only two Cr(VI) removal cycles. SRB attached to biosulfidated-ZVI can survive in the presence of Cr(VI) because of the protection of the biogenic porous structure, whereas SRB in the suspension is inhibited. After Cr(VI) removal, SRB repopulates in the suspension from biosulfidated-ZVI and produce FeS x , thus providing conditions for subsequent Cr(VI) removal cycles. Overall, the synergistic effect of SRB and ZVI provides a more powerful and environmentally friendly sulfidation method, which has more advantageous for Cr(VI) removal than those of chemical sulfidation. Paper mill Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) ash contains a mixture of alkali metal chloride (34.2 %) and sulfate (84.2 %) which has serious negative effects on the environment and makes it more expensive and constrained to dispose ESP ash. Therefore, handling and recycling ESP ash demands extra thought when disposing of it. Present study, aimed to separate chloride and sulfate from ESP ash using electrochemical membrane technology. Three different concentrations of ESP ash solution such as 200 g L -1 , 320 g L -1 and 450 g L -1 were used as the electrolyte. Ti/TiO 2 -IrO 2 -RuO 2 and titanium (Ti) are used as anode and cathode respectively. Caustic and sulfate solutions were recovered at the respective compartments. The collected sulfate solution was dried by solar light to convert 99 % sulfate salts as confirmed by Energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) analysis. Recovered sulfate salt was used for the dye fixing process, in which the colour fixing difference of ΔE value was about 2.10 and the strength of the dye was about 86.72 %. Coagulation with inorganic Mg-based coagulants is an efficient technology for dyes removal. However, the promising poly-magnesium-silicate (PMS) coagulant with better aggregation abilities can only be used in a very limited pH range. In this study, poly-magnesium-titanium-silicate (PMTS) was prepared by using titanium sulfate modified PMS. For the treatment of Congo red dye wastewater, PMTS(S), PMTS(Cl) and PMTS(N) synthesized under different acid media (H 2 SO 4 , HCl and HNO 3) were used. PMTSs had the highest coagulation efficiency at Ti/Mg molar ratio of 0.75 and B value of 1.5. PMTSs outperformed PMS in the initial pH range of 5.50–9.00, with a dye removal efficiency of over 90% at 17.1 mg/L. Under optimal conditions, PMTS(S) had higher coagulation efficiency than that of PMTS(Cl) and PMTS(N), and the settling rate of the four Mg-based coagulants followed an order of PMTS(S) > PMS > PMTS(Cl) > PMTS(N). The coagulation mechanisms of PMTSs on Congo red dye were elucidated by further analysis of coagulation precipitates using UV, FT-IR, SEM and EDS. These results showed that the basis mechanism for floc formation was charge neutralization, while the key to floc formation was chemical combination. Based on the SEM and FTIR results, PMTSs could be found to have special shapes and chain structures, such as Si–O–Ti, Si–O–Mg, Ti–O–Ti, Mg–OH and Ti–OH. Combined with the results of zeta potential, the dominant mechanisms of PMTSs were more likely to be adsorption-interparticle bridging and net-sweeping. Over 24 million hectares of the world's coastal floodplains are underlain by acid sulfate soils (ASS). Drainage of these sediments has led to widespread environmental degradation, raising serious health concerns. To date, onsite rehabilitation has been complicated by differing stakeholder priorities, with resources often allocated to sites with more vocal proponents rather than those exposed to more significant environmental impacts. To address this issue, this paper introduces the Coastal Floodplain Prioritisation (CFP) Method; a novel, data driven and spatially explicit multi-criteria assessment that ranks floodplain catchment areas according to their risk of transferring acidic drainage waters to an estuary. Results can be used to prioritise where remediation actions are likely to have the greatest benefit. The method was applied across six different estuaries in south-east Australia, with major field campaigns undertaken at each site. Within each estuary, the largest acid fluxes and impacts are identified with relevant mitigation measures provided. On a catchment scale, the results reflect the broader hydrogeomorphic characteristics of each estuary, including the historic acid formation conditions and recent anthropogenic drainage activities. Low-lying backswamps were identified as the highest risk zones within each estuary. These areas are also the most vulnerable to sea level rise. Intercropping technology and stabilizing materials are common remediation techniques for soils contaminated with heavy metals. This study investigated the feasibility of the Gynostemma pentaphyllum (G. pentaphyllum)/Helianthus annuus L. (H. annuus) intercropping system on arsenic (As) contaminated farmland through field and pot experiments and the regulation of plant As absorption by the application of mixed stabilizing materials in this intercropping system. Field experiments demonstrated that intercropping with H. annuus increased the As concentration in G. pentaphyllum leaves to 1.79 mg kg -1 but still met the requirements of the national food standard of China (2 mg kg -1 ) (GB2762-2017). Meanwhile, G. pentaphyllum yield in the intercropping system decreased by 15.09%, but the difference was insignificant (P > 0.05). Additionally, the As bioconcentration (BCA) per H. annuus plant in the intercropping system was significantly higher than that in the monoculture system, increasing by 76.37% (P < 0.05). The pot experiment demonstrated that when granite powder, iron sulfate mineral, and "Weidikang" soil conditioner were applied to the soil collectively, G. pentaphyllum leaf As concentration in the intercropping system could be significantly reduced by 42.17%. Rhizosphere pH is the most crucial factor affecting As absorption by G. pentaphyllum in intercropping systems. When these three stabilizing materials were applied simultaneously, the As bioaccumulation (BCA) per H. annuus plant was significantly higher than that of normal intercropping treatment, which increased by 71.12% (P < 0.05), indicating that the application of these stabilizing materials significantly improved the As removal efficiency of the intercropping system. Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration in the rhizosphere soil is the most pivotal factor affecting As absorption by H. annuus. In summary, the G. pentaphyllum-H. annuus intercropping model is worthy of being promoted in moderately As polluted farmland. Boosting acetate production from waste activated sludge (WAS) fermentation is often hindered by the inefficient solubilization in the hydrolysis step and the high hydrogen pressure ( [Formula: see text] ) during the acidogenesis of C3-C5 short-chain fatty acid (SCFAs), i.e., propionate (HPr), butyrate (HBu) and valerate (HVa). Therefore, this study employed persulfate (PS) oxidation and C3-C5 incomplete-oxidative sulfate reducing bacteria (io-SRB) metabolizers to tailor SCFAs conversion from WAS fermentation. The decomposition efficiency, performance of SCFAs production was investigated. Results showed that the PS significantly promoted WAS decomposition, with a dissolution rate of 39.4%, which is 26.0% higher than the un-treated test. Furthermore, SCFAs yields were increased to 462.7 ± 42 mg COD/g VSS in PS-HBu-SRB, which was 7.4 and 2.2 times higher than that of un-treated and sole PS tests, respectively. In particular, the sum of acetate and HPr reached the peak value of 85%, indicating that HBu-SRB mediation promoted the biotransformation of HBu and macromolecular organics by reducing the [Formula: see text] restriction. Meanwhile, sulfate radical (SO 4 ∙ - )-based oxidation (SR-AOPs) was effective in the decomposition of WAS, the oxidative product, i.e., sulfate served the necessary electron acceptor for the metabolism of io-SRB. Further analysis of Mantel test revealed the cluster of the functional genus and their interaction with environmental variables. Additionally, molecular ecological network analysis explored the potential synergistic and competitive relationships between critical genera. Disinfection and decontamination of water by application of oxidisers is an essential treatment step across numerous industrial sectors including potable supply and industry waste management, however, could be greatly enhanced if operated as advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). AOPs destroy contaminants including pathogens by uniquely harnessing radical chemistry. Despite AOPs offer great practical opportunities, no reviews to date have highlighted the critical AOP virtues that facilitate AOPs' scale up under growing industrial demand. Hence, this review analyses the critical AOP parameters such as oxidant conversion efficiency, batch mode vs continuous-flow systems, location of radical production, radical delivery by advanced micro-/mesoporous structures and AOP process costs to assist the translation of progressing developments of AOPs into their large-scale applications. Additionally, the state of the art is analysed for various AOP inducing radical/oxidiser measurement techniques and their half-lives with a view to identify radicals/oxidisers that are suitable for in-situ production. It is concluded that radicals with short half-lives such as hydroxyl (10 -4  μsec) and sulfate (30-40 μsec) need to be produced in-situ via continuous-flow reactors for their effective transport and dosing. Meanwhile, radicals/oxidisers with longer half-lives such as ozone (7-10 min), hydrogen peroxide (stable for several hours), and hypochlorous acid (10 min -17 h) need to be applied through batch reactor systems due to their relatively longer stability during transportation and dosing. Complex and costly synthesis as well as cytotoxicity of many micro-/mesoporous structures limit their use in scaling up AOPs, particularly to immobilising and delivering the short-lived hydroxyl and sulfate radicals to their point of applications. This work presents a case study of waste incorporation, where precast concrete block rejects were reincorporated into the production of new recycled concrete blocks which stands for a technically and environmentally viable alternative to natural aggregates. This study therefore evaluated the technical feasibility, first, and the leaching performance, after, of recycled vibro-compacted dry mixed concrete blocks using different percentages of substitution of recycled aggregates (RA) coming from precast concrete block rejects in order to identify those that presented a better technical performance. According to the results, concrete blocks with a 20% of RA incorporation presented an optimum physic-mechanical behaviour. The environmental evaluation based on leaching tests was carried out to identify the most conflictive elements legally regulated according to their pollutant release levels and investigate their different release mechanisms. The leaching study performed in concrete monoliths showed that in blocks with 20% of RA incorporation: Mo, Cr, and sulphate anions presented a higher mobility during the diffusion leaching tests; Sb and Cu presented an average mobility; Ba and Zn exhibited lower mobility levels and their corresponding release mechanisms for each of them. The fly ash (FA) from the combustion of heavy oil in power stations is characterized by fine particles containing toxic metals. The sample utilized in this study was gathered from the dust precipitators of seven heavy-oil-consuming Iranian power plants. Substantial quantities of heavy metals, particularly vanadium, iron, and nickel, have been detected in the sample, indicating both its potential utility and hazard to the soil and groundwater. The harmful consequences of FA disposal on the environment have led to the adoption of recycling as a treatment approach in this study. The valorization of FA was investigated by producing nickel ferrite (NiFe 2 O 4 ) and vanadium pentoxide (V 2 O 5 ) through a novel approach using a combination of pyro-hydrometallurgical processes, which resulted in proposing a recycling closed-loop flowsheet. Roasting was first practiced to form NiFe 2 O 4 by reacting the nickel and iron content of the FA. The NiFe 2 O 4 showed a low dissolution against inorganic acids (H 2 SO 4 , HCl, and HNO 3 ). The vanadium content of the FA showed a remarkable recovery in H 2 SO 4 (91%) and HCl (95.6%), while the dissolution of Ni was limited to 16.85% and 17.5%, respectively. The produced NiFe 2 O 4 acted well in response to the magnetic field, and its purity was further increased to 95-96% through a two-stage process consisting of grinding and magnetic separation. The nano-sized spherical NiFe 2 O 4 with saturation magnetization of 34.66 and 30.82 emu. g -1 was obtained from H 2 SO 4 and HCl residues, respectively. The dissolved vanadium was recovered as V 2 O 5 via oxidation-precipitation in sulfate media and oxidation-ammonium precipitation in chloride solution. The purity of V 2 O 5 in sulfate and chloride media was 93% and 98.5%, respectively. Finally, a life cycle assessment (LCA) study was performed on the suggested methods to track the ecological effects of extracting V and Ni from oil combustion FA. In this study, Fe-Al layered double hydroxide (Fe-Al LDH) was prepared and applied to activate persulfate to condition sewage sludge and improve its dewaterability. The results showed that Fe-Al LDH activated persulfate to generate a large amount of free radicals, which attacked extracellular polymeric substances and reduced their content, disrupted microbial cells, released bound water, decreased sludge particle size, increased sludge zeta potential, and improved sludge dewaterability. After sewage sludge was conditioned with Fe-Al LDH (0.20 g/g total solids (TS)) and persulfate (0.10 g/g TS) for 30 min, the capillary suction time of the sludge dropped from 52.0 s to 16.3 s, while the moisture content of the sludge cake decreased from 93.2% to 68.5%. The dominant active free radical produced by the Fe-Al LDH-activated persulfate was SO 4 - •. The maximum Fe 3+ leaching of the conditioned sludge was only 102.67 ± 4.45 mg/L, thus effectively alleviating the secondary pollution of Fe 3+ . The rapid increase in urbanization and intensive coal mining activities have accelerated the deterioration of surface water quality. Environmental problems caused by the accumulation of nitrate and sulfate from natural, urban, and agricultural sources have attracted extensive attention. Information on nitrate and sulfate sources and their transformations is crucial for understanding the nitrogen and sulfur cycles in surface water. In this study, we monitored nitrate and sulfate in three representative rivers in mining cities in northern China. The main pollution sources and biogeochemical processes were identified by using stable isotopes (δD, δ18O H2O , δ15N, δ18O NO3 , δ34S and δ18O SO4) and hydrochemistry. The contribution of natural and anthropogenic sources was quantitatively estimated based on a Bayesian mixed model. The results indicated a large variation in sulfate and nitrate sources between the different rivers. Nitrate in the Tuohe River mainly derived from manure/sewage (57.9%) and soil N (26.9%), while sulfate mainly derived from manure/sewage (41.7%) and evaporite dissolution (26.8%). For the Suihe River, nitrate was primarily sourced from chemical fertilizer (37.9%) and soil nitrogen (34.8%), while sulfate was mainly sourced from manure/sewage (33.1%) and chemical fertilizer (21.4%). For the Huihe River, nitrate mainly derived from mine drainage (56.6%) and manure/sewage (30.6%), while sulfate predominantly originated from mine drainage (58.3%) and evaporite dissolution (12.9%). Microbial nitrification was the major pathway for the migration and transformation of nitrate in the surface water. However, denitrification and bacterial sulfate reduction (BSR) did not play a significant role as aerobic conditions prevailed. In this study, we elucidated the sources and transformation mechanisms of nitrate and sulfate. Additionally, we provided a reference for formulating a comprehensive strategy for effective management and remediation of surface water contaminated with nitrate and sulfate in mining cities. The effectiveness of liquid carbon additions to enhance zinc removal in laboratory-scale short hydraulic residence time (19 h) compost bioreactors receiving synthetic mine water with a high influent zinc concentration (45 mg/L) was investigated. Effective removal of such elevated zinc concentrations could not be sustained by sulfate reduction and/or other attenuation processes without carbon supplementation. Propionic acid addition resulted in improved and sustained performance by promoting the activities of sulfate reducing bacteria, leading to efficient zinc removal (mean 99%) via bacterial sulfate reduction. In contrast, cessation of propionic acid addition led to carbon limitation and the growth of sulfur oxidising bacteria, compromising zinc removal by bacterial sulfate reduction. Sintering dust from the steelmaking industry is a hazardous waste that is rich in valuable metals. The purpose with the present study has been to design an efficient process for the preparation of K 2 SO 4 and NH 4 Cl fertilizers by using sintering dust as raw material. The K, S, and Cl in the sintering dust were selectively and efficiently leached using water. The leaching of Ca impurities was then greatly reduced and the appearance of Zn and Mg was avoided. The Cl - ions in the leachate were, thereafter, adsorbed by a 201 × 7 resin to form a K 2 SO 4 solution. Finally, the loaded Cl - on the resin was desorbed to form a NH 4 Cl solution, and the resin was regenerated and recycled. The purified solutions were crystallized to prepare K 2 SO 4 (s) and NH 4 Cl(s) products, which met the national standard of China for superior potassium sulfate and ammonium chloride, to be used for agricultural use. The recoveries of K, Cl, and S from the sintering dust were 80.78%, 92.63%, and 93.92%, respectively. Notably, the Mn content in the leaching residue increased from 9.08% to 14.19%. This could be used for the conversion of Mn impurities into recyclable manganese-rich raw materials. pH is notably known as the main variable defining distinct metabolic pathways during sugarcane vinasse dark fermentation. However, different alkalinizing (e.g. sodium bicarbonate; NaHCO 3 ) and/or neutralizing (e.g. sodium hydroxide; NaOH) approaches were never directly compared to understand the associated impacts on metabolite profiles. Three anaerobic structured-bed reactors (AnSTBR) were operated in parallel and subjected to equivalent operational parameters, except for the pH control: an acidogenic-sulfidogenic (R1; NaOH + NaHCO 3 ) designed to remove sulfur compounds (sulfate and sulfide), a hydrogenogenic (R2; NaOH) aimed to optimize biohydrogen (bioH 2 ) production, and a strictly fermentative system without pH adjustment (R3) to mainly evaluate lactic acid (HLa) production and other soluble metabolites. NaHCO 3 dosing triggered advantages not only for sulfate reduction (up to 56%), but also to enhance the stripping of sulfide to the gas phase (75-96% of the theoretical sulfide produced) by the high and constant biogas flow resulting from the CO 2 released during NaHCO 3 dissociation. Meanwhile, molasses-based vinasse presented higher potential for bioH 2 (up to 4545 mL-H 2 L -1 d -1 ) and HLa (up to 4800 mg L -1 ) production by butyric-type and capnophilic lactic fermentation pathways. Finally, heterolactic fermentation was the main metabolic route established when no pH control was provided (R3), as indicated by the high production of both HLa (up to 4315 mg L -1 ) and ethanol (1987 mg L -1 ). The proportion of activated persulfate (PS) oxidation technology in the remediation of domestic organic contaminated sites has increased every year, and the potential corrosion risk of site reuse caused by residual oxidants and by-products has also attracted the attention of researchers. In this work, the potential corrosion degree such as the mass reduction rate and surface crack width of standard iron flakes under different conditions, including with different PS dosages and release times, was monitored quantitatively over a long period, and the corresponding corrosion risk was quantitatively assessed. The results showed that when n (Na 2 S 2 O 8 ):n (PAHs) increased from 5:1 to 100:1, the higher the oxidizer dosage, the more severe the corrosion weight loss and surface crack width, indicating that the oxidizer dosage was positively correlated with the potential corrosion risk. In addition, the corrosion crack width of the standard iron flake had a significant positive correlation with the reaction time and a significant negative correlation with the mass change. According to the changes in the standard iron flake, the corrosion process could be divided into three stages, in which the corrosion risk from high to low followed the order of oxidant corrosion stage > oxidant and salt corrosion stage > salt and microbial corrosion stage. Therefore, the dosage of chemicals should be controlled, the molar ratio of oxidizer to contaminant should not exceed 25:1, and a natural recovery period of at least one year should be left post remediation. In treating mine-impacted waters using sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), metal inhibition and substrate selection are important factors affecting the efficiency of the bioprocess. This work investigated the role of the substrate (i.e. lactate, formate, glycerol and glucose) on Ni inhibition to SRB with sulfate-reducing activity tests at initial pH 5, 7 and 9 and 100 mg/L of Ni. Results indicated that the type of substrate was a significant factor affecting Ni inhibition in SRB, which was the most negligible in the lactate system, followed by glycerol, glucose, and formate. Although less significant, Ni inhibition also varied with the pH, leading for instance, to a reduction of 77% in the sulfate reducing activity for the formate system, but only of 28% for lactate at pH 5. The added substrate also influenced the precipitation kinetics and the characteristics of the precipitates, reaching Ni precipitation extents above 95%, except for glucose (83.2%). Biological reduction of selenium oxyanions is widely used for selenium removal from wastewater. The process is, however, limited by the availability of a suitable, efficient and low cost electron donor. In this study, selenite and selenate reduction by waste activated sludge using hydrogen as the electron donor was investigated. Both selenite and selenate (80 mg/L) were completely removed using H 2 within 8 days of incubation. In the presence of sulfate in the medium, the Se removal efficiency decreased to 77.8-95.4% (for selenite) and 88.2-99.4% (for selenate) at different temperatures and initial sulfate concentrations. Thermophilic conditions (50 °C) were better suited for both selenite and selenate reduction using H 2 as electron donor with a 0.8-13.5% increase in overall Se removal. Similarly, sulfate reduction also increased from 69.1- 88% at 30 °C to 72-94.6% at 50 °C. Most of the H 2 utilized was diverted towards Se and sulfate reduction with minimal production of byproducts such as methane (<0.32 mM) or volatile fatty acids (<0.92 mg/L). The elemental Se produced from selenite and selenate reduction ranged between 33.9 and 52.1 mg/L. The elemental selenium nanoparticles produced as a result of selenite and selenate reduction were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) spectroscopy. The large amount of trace organic contaminants (TrOCs) in wastewater has caused serious impacts on human health. In the past few years, Sulfate radical (SO 4 •-) based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs) are widely recognized for their high removal rates of recalcitrant TrOCs from water. Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and persulfate (PS) are stable and non-toxic strong oxidizing oxidants and can act as excellent SO 4 •- precursors. Compared with hydroxyl radicals(·OH)-based methods , SR-AOPs have a series of advantages, such as long half-life and wide pH range, the oxidation capacity of SO 4 •- approaches or even exceeds that of ·OH under suitable conditions. In this review, we present the progress of activating PS/PMS to remove TrOCs by different methods. These methods include activation by transition metal, ultrasound, UV, etc. Possible activation mechanisms and influencing factors such as pH during the activation are discussed. Finally, future activation studies of PS/PMS are summarized and prospected. This review summarizes previous experiences and presents the current status of SR-AOPs application for TrOCs removal. Arsenic (As) is a highly poisonous heavy metal with major environmental ramifications. Inorganic components such as zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe), as well as organic vermicompost, have been used as management solutions, with limited attempts of using them together. The current study involved preparing non-enriched vermicompost as well as six distinct Zn and Fe enriched vermicomposts and analyzing their chemical composition using the standard procedures. Organic fractions from these seven vermicompost and arsenic polluted soils of West Bengal, India were recovered and separated into humic (HA) and fulvic acid (FA) fractions. Potentiometric titrations, viscometric assays, and visible spectrophotometry were used to characterize the HA and FA samples. In aqueous phase the stability constant (log K) of the complexes formed with As indicates that stability of FA extracted from enriched vermicompost V 4 (Zn and Fe sulphate @ 10% w/w dry weight basis of composting substrates before application of vermiworms) was maximum as 10.20 with a mole ratio (x) value of 1.36. Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) studies confirmed the complexation of As with HA/FA. The mechanism of nitrogen transformation of sulfate radical (SO- 4⋅) in the process of composting is unclear. The objectives of this study were to investigate the influence of SO- 4⋅ on nitrogen biotransformation during composting and to compare the differences in physicochemical parameters and metagenomics analysis between CK (fresh dairy manure and bagasse pith) and PS (the composting raw materials added with potassium persulfate). The results indicated that SO - 4 ⋅ guides electron transfer in the conversion of NH + 4 -N to NO- 3-N and breaches the extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) structure to promote nitrogen removal. Aminomonooxygenase (AMO) and nitrate reductase (NR) levels displayed an interactive relationship between microorganisms and substrates. Metagenomics analysis revealed distinct microbial community compositions and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways between nitrification and denitrification. Correlation analysis indicated that Methanobrevibacter, Bacillus and Pseudomonas were closely related to these processes. Releases of hydrogen sulphide (H 2 S) and sulphur ions (S 2- ) through sulphate reduction in black-odorous waterbody is a great environmental health concern. Aquatic planting for blackening and odour controls has received great attention in research and practice. Nitrate concentration in black-odorous waterbody can vary significantly but little is known about the responses of aquatic plants on H 2 S and S 2- releases under different nitrate levels. This controlled laboratory study explored the changes of H 2 S and S 2- releases in simulated black-odorous waterbody planted with Vallisneria natans and artificial plants (control). V. natans growth was stimulated by additional nitrate (6.6 mg/L NO 3 - -N), resulting in an increase of dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH in overlying water and an 11.0% decrease in removal efficiency of chemical oxygen demand (COD). At relatively low nitrate level (i.e., 2.0 mg/L NO 3 - -N in the absence of additional nitrate), V. natans after the 48th day inhibited H 2 S and S 2- releases by 81.5% and 66.8%, respectively, and their inhibition efficiencies were improved to 95.7% and 98.8% by the presence of additional nitrate. Additional nitrate reduced the relative abundance of sulphate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in the sediments while increased the relative abundance of sulphur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB) and nitrate-reducing sulphur-oxidizing bacteria (NR-SOB) in the leaf biofilms of V. natans and artificial plants. Genus compositions in leaf biofilms showed host specificity. Pearson correlation analysis showed that DO, pH, and nitrate concentration had a positive correlation with the relative abundance of SOB (Aeromonas) and NR-SOB (Hydrogenophaga), while were negatively correlated with the relative abundance of SRB (MSBL7). These results indicated that V. natans under additional nitrate altered microbial community to be unfavourable for H 2 S and S 2- releases. In this study, combined Dark Target and Deep Blue (DTB) aerosol optical depth at 550 nm (AOD 550 nm ) data the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying on the Terra and Aqua satellites during the years 2003-2020 are used as a reference to assess the performance of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Services (CAMS) and the second version of Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA-2) AOD over Bangladesh. The study also investigates long-term spatiotemporal variations and trends in AOD, and determines the relative contributions from different aerosol species (black carbon: BC, dust, organic carbon: OC, sea salt: SS, and sulfate) and anthropogenic emissions to the total AOD. As the evaluations suggest higher accuracy for CAMS than for MERRA-2, CAMS is used for further analysis of AOD over Bangladesh. The annual mean AOD from both CAMS and MODIS DTB is high (>0.60) over most parts of Bangladesh except for the eastern areas of Chattogram and Sylhet. Higher AOD is observed in spring and winter than in summer and autumn, which is mainly due to higher local anthropogenic emissions during the winter to spring season. Annual trends from 2003-2020 show a significant increase in AOD (by 0.006-0.014 year -1 ) over Bangladesh, and this increase in AOD was more evident in winter and spring than in summer and autumn. The increasing total AOD is caused by rising anthropogenic emissions and accompanied by changes in aerosol species (with increased OC, sulfate, and BC). Large quantities of landfill sludge (LS) with higher water content (WC) were stored underground, and excavation and re-dewatering of LS is a sustainable and economic strategy to save landfill space and reduce the leaching of contaminants. In this study, polyferric silicate sulfate (PFSS) was first applied in the conditioning of excavated LS, and the effects of the Si/Fe mass ratio and PFSS dosage on physicochemical properties, dewaterability and rheological properties were investigated. At the best Si/Fe of 0.18, PFSS conditioning obtained compact aggregates with the strongest internal structure, thus achieving the lowest WC. Large sludge flocs were formed, and slime and loosely-bound extracellular polymeric substances were effectively removed with the PFSS dosage above 100 mg/g dried solids, which made the WC to be lower than 51.4%. The whole mechanical compression process of conditioned LS can be described by the modified Terzaghi-Voigt model, and increasing the PFSS dosage induced the release of bound water and migration of the consolidation stage from ternary to secondary. Solvent extraction separation of molybdenum (Mo) from the sulphate mediated leach solution bearing Aluminium (Al) and Nickel (Ni) was carried out using N-Methyl-N, N, N-tri-octyl-ammonium chloride. Extensive investigation for extraction study molybdenum in the function of time, Eq.pH, extractant concentration, diluents, temperature, strip solution concentration and phase ratio(A:O) for both extraction and stripping was examined to attain a suitable condition on its selective and enriched extraction. As per the equilibrium study and increasing trend of Eq. pH (pH e) at the correspondence initial pH, it was apparent about association of 1 mol of H+ ion during extraction which with was further supported on extraction of Mo as HMO 4 - at the pH e of 3.48. The association of 1 mol of exrractant during the extraction of Mo was also well evident from the slope analysis study. This indicates about anion exchange phenomenon due to Cl− ion of the N-Methyl-N, N, N-tri-octyl-ammonium chloride (extractant) with HMo 4 − from aqueous phase during complex formation reaction. The FTIR of the organic sample before and after extraction further confirms in support of the complex formation of the molybdenum with the extractant during extraction. The extraction isotherm was constructed at optmum extraction condition: pH e of 3.48 with 0.08M N-Methyl-N, N, N-tri-octyl-ammonium chloride predicts on need of 2-counter current stages for quantitative extraction of Mo at A:O = 3:1. To investigate the regeneration behaviour of adopted extractant along with enriched stripping of molybdenum, ammoniacal reagents were used in stripping study. The stripping of Mo showed promising and efficient using the mixture of the ammoniacal reagents (NH 4 OH + NH 4 Cl) over the either of the solo reagents. The stripping Mc-Cabe Thiele diagram was plotted using 2M NH 4 OH + NH 4 Cl ensures on quantitative stripping of Mo at SO: SS = 2:1 at 2 no. of stages. Both extraction and stripping isotherm results are validated at predicted isotherm conditions by 6-cycles counter current simulation (CCS) study leading to obtain 6-fold enrichment of Mo in stripped solution phase. The subsequent enriched content of Mo (∼60 g/L) in stripped solution phase was precipitated out followed by calcinations 400 °C to obtain a high pure MoO 3. The recovered calcined product as MoO 3 resulted through the proposed processing approach was as ascertained from XRD analysis. Ultrasonication has been mechanically applied widely in the recycling of spent lithium-ion (SLI) batteries while its influence on chemical pathways has barely been reported. In this study, ultrasonication and sulfate radicals were used in a coupling system to obtain efficient recoveries of Co and Li from SLI batteries. The synergistic effect of ultrasonication and sulfate radicals on recycling was quantitatively analysed by significance analysis and surface responses in a central composite design. The employment of persulfate significantly affected the whole recycling process during the sonication. Factors including acoustic time, operating powers, and temperature all had a significant effect on the recoveries of Co and Li. The maximum recovery efficiencies of Co and Li of 97.33% and 99.25%, respectively, and the minimum loss rate of Al of 4.13% were simultaneously obtained by the fitting predictor. The optimal combination of factors for the sonication system included an acoustic time (min) of 5.5, an operating power (W) of 168, a temperature (°C) of 86, and a ratio of cathode foil to S-solution (mg/mL) of 1:60. A moiety of cathode active material was directly separated from the aluminium collector by sulfate radical-related reactions. Co and Li cations dissolved from LiCoO 2 by carbon dioxide radicals were reprecipitated by excess oxalate. The research demonstrated the positively synergistic influence caused by ultrasonication and sulfate radicals on achieving efficient recoveries of Co and Li from SLI batteries, explicitly expanding the technical choices for the recycling procedure. A multi-unit passive treatment system was constructed for co-treatment of synthetic acid mine drainage (AMD) and domestic sewage supplemented with silage fermentation broth as carbon source. AMD and domestic sewage mixing pretreatment (unit 1) improved influent quality with pH increase, metals removal and nutrients supplement. The generated metal-rich sludge in unit 1 retained the metals (69.95% of Fe, 97.36% of Cu, 96.53% of Cd, 72.52% of Zn, and 8.59% of Mn) of influent prior to entering subsequent bioreactors. Silage fermentation broth performed well to promote bacterial sulfate reduction in sulfate reducing bioreactor system (unit 2). Residual metals (Mn) and organic/nutrient pollutants were further polished in surface-flow aerobic wetland (unit 3), where relatively high pH (7.4-8.6), aerobic condition, potential Mn-oxidizing bacteria, limestone layer and low concentrations of Fe(II) (0.04-3.5 mg/L) favored the efficient removal of Mn. After 210-day continuous flow-through experiment, this passive treatment system demonstrated the efficient performance, increasing pH from 2.5 to 8.0 with removal of metals (99%), sulfate and organic/nutrient pollutants. Diverse sulfate reducing bacteria including complete organic oxidizers (e.g. Desulfobacter) and incomplete organic oxidizers (e.g. Desulfovibrio) promoted sulfate reduction and organic/nutrient pollutants removal. Ammonia oxidizing bacteria (e.g. Nitrosomonas) and nitrite oxidizing bacteria (e.g. unidentified&#95;Nitrospiraceae) were the potential nitrifiers for ammonia removal. Collaboration of anaerobic denitrifiers (e.g. Denitratisoma) and potential heterotrophic nitrifying and aerobic denitrifiers (HN-AD) achieved effective nitrate removal. Sites polluted by dense non-aqueous phases (DNAPLs) constitute an environmental concern. In situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) application is limited since oxidation often occurs in the aqueous phase and contaminants are usually hydrophobic. In this work, ISCO enhanced by the surfactant addition (S-ISCO) was studied for a complex liquid mixture of chlorinated organic compounds (COCs) using persulfate (PS) activated by alkali (PSA) as oxidant and Emulse-3® as a commercial non-ionic surfactant. The reaction between E3 and PSA was investigated in the absence and presence of solubilized COCs in the following concentration ranges: COCs 1.2-50 mM, PS 84-336 mM, NaOH:PS molar ratio of 2, and surfactant concentration 1-10 g·L -1 . In the experiments carried out in the absence of COCs, the unproductive consumption of PS was studied. The higher the surfactant concentration, the lower the ratio PS consumed to the initial surfactant concentration due to more complex micelle structures hindering the oxidation of surfactant molecules. This hindering effect was also noticed in the oxidation of solubilized COCs. The reduction of chlorobenzenes by PSA was negligible at surfactant concentrations above 2.5 g·L -1 , independently of the COCs concentration solubilized. Instead, a surfactant concentration of about 1 and PS concentration of 168 mM yielded a significant decrease in the time required to abate a mass of DNAPL, compared with an ISCO process, with a bearable increase in the unproductive consumption of PS., (Copyright © 2022 The Authors. Colonization by sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in environments associated with oil is mainly dependent on the availability of sulfate and carbon sources. The formation of biofilms by SRB increases the corrosion of pipelines and oil storage tanks, representing great occupational and operational risks and respective economic losses for the oil industry. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the addition of acetate, butyrate, lactate, propionate and oil on the structure of biofilm formed in carbon steel coupons, as well as on the diversity of total bacteria and SRB in the planktonic and sessile communities from petroleum produced water. The biofilm morphology, chemical composition, average roughness and the microbial diversity was analyzed. In all carbon sources, formation of dense biofilm without morphological and/or microbial density differences was detected, with the most of cells observed in the form of individual rods. The diversity and richness indices of bacterial species in the planktonic community was greater than in the biofilm. Geotoga was the most abundant genus, and more than 85% of SRB species were common to all treatments. The functional predicted profile shown that the observed genres in planktonic communities were related to the reduction of sulfate, sulfite, elementary sulfur and other sulfur compounds, but the abundance varied between treatments. For the biofilm, the functions predicted profile for the oil treatment was the one that most varied in relation to the control, while for the planktonic community, the addition of all carbon sources interfered in the predicted functional profile. Thus, although it does not cause changes in the structure and morphology biofilm, the supplementation of produced water with different carbon sources is associated with changes in the SRB taxonomic composition and functional profiles of the biofilm and the planktonic bacterial communities., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Increasing metal demand is accelerating the mining and processing of minerals, however to ensure sustainable growth innovative approaches are required to better manage associated effluents. Biochar from the fast pyrolysis of residues from fishery and forestry operations has been studied as a low-cost, environmentally and economically friendly method for treating mine tailings and processing effluents. However, the bulk of the studies focus on terrestrial biomass (e.g. wood) and do not include potential inhibition/enhancement of adsorption due to pH controlling compounds. In this work biochar generated from snow crab (Chionoecetes Opilio) processing was studied as an adsorbent for copper solutions containing sulfate (a key compound in sulfide ore mining waters) with the objective of assessing adsorption capacity and the impact of sulfate on copper adsorption. The biochar, a porous structure comprised of calcite (CaCO 3 ), was alkaline and has a negative zeta potential under neutral and basic conditions. The crab biochar removed over 99% of Cu 2+ from a 100 mg/L solution (sourced as CuSO 4 ) at a dosage of 5 g/L, which was higher than lignocellulosic biochar at the same biochar dosage. While metal adsorption can often be impacted at acidic conditions, Cu 2+ adsorption was not impacted by initial acidic pH due to the biochar's buffering capacity. The Pseudo-Second Order (PSO) model fit the adsorption rate with maximum adsorption achieved in approximately 2 h. The maximum adsorption isotherm capacity was 184.8 ± 10.2 mg/g for Cu 2+ , much higher than existing commercial activated carbons and previously studied lignocellulosic biochars and followed the Freundlich isotherm. The adsorption mechanism responsible for removal of Cu 2+ was found to be precipitation, in the form of the mineral posnjakite (Cu 4 [(OH) 6 SO 4 ]·H 2 O). These results indicate for the first time that crab-based biochars are capable of adsorbing large quantities of Cu 2+ from sulfate-rich solution, while also buffering solution pH, demonstrating promise as an acid mine drainage treatment for removal of harmful metals and reduction of acidity., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. A biotic iron (Fe 0 ) treatment system combined with mixed microorganisms was applied to remediate cadmium (Cd)-contaminated groundwater under the intervention of sulfate. Due to hydrogenotrophic desulfuration effect, severe iron corrosion was observed in this microbe-collaborative Fe 0 system according to surface morphology analysis as lots of secondary minerals (e.g. magnetite, green rust and lepidocrocite) were generated, which was essential for Cd(II) adsorption and immobilization. The sulfate-mediated biotic Fe 0 system thereafter achieved a significantly enhanced Cd(II) removal efficiency of 86.1%, over 3.3 times than that in the abiotic Fe 0 system. Increasing initial sulfate concentration could improve the removal of cadmium, which further proved that hydrogenotrophic desulfuration played a key role for enhanced Cd removal. According to the experimental results and current reports, the mechanism of Cd(II) removal was revealed into three pathways including adsorption to secondary iron minerals, co-precipitation with iron (hydr)oxides and formation of cadmium sulfide precipitation. Increasing Fe 0 dosages showed positive correlation to Cd(II) removal and neutral pH was preferred to sulfate-mediated biotic Fe 0 corrosion. These results indicated that sulfate-mediated biotic Fe 0 corrosion could greatly relieve the limitation of Fe 0 in Cd(II) immobilization, which could be a promising method to eliminate Cd(II) pollution from groundwater., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Microalgae are known as renewable, potential, and sustainable feedstocks for biofuel production. The present work investigated the efficient valorization of green microalgae Chlorella sp. to produce sugars and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) using thermochemical conversion with a metal-salt (ferric sulfate) as catalyst using a statistical approach and two-step conversion. A statistical approach with a Box–Behnken design was introduced to optimize the conversion for producing sugars. As a result of optimization, 86.46% sugar yield (68.32% glucose yield) was achieved under the condition of 5% biomass and 0.6 g-catalyst/g-biomass at 155 °C and 40 min. Two-step thermochemical conversion was introduced to produce 5-HMF from microalgae. In the first step, sugars were produced from the above optimum condition; in the second step, sugar hydrolysates were converted into 5-HMF by thermochemical conversion without an additional catalyst. In two-step conversion, the maximum 5-HMF yield (37.23%) was achieved at 170 °C and 60 min from the sugar hydrolysate of microalgae obtained from the first-step thermochemical conversion with ferric sulfate. Neonicotinoids pesticides were introduced to the market in the 1990s to control various pests. Its accumulation in the environment supposes a severe problem that can affect human health. This study investigates the electrochemical degradation of four common neonicotinoid pesticides; thiamethoxam (TMX), imidacloprid (ICP), acetamiprid (ACP) and thiacloprid (TCP), in different natural surface waters by a boron-doped diamond anode (BDD). The most influencing variable was the current density (j), and to a lesser extent, the supporting electrolyte concentration (C e ). In optimal conditions (j = 34.14 mA cm -2 and C e  = 10.00 mM, using Na 2 SO 4 as electrolyte) pesticide removals for TMX, ICP, ACP and TCP were 97.2, 96.9, 87.8 and 98.2 %, respectively. The obtained results with different support electrolytes (Na 2 SO 4 , NaCl, NaNO 3 and HK 2 PO 4 ) suggest that sulphate electrolyte was the optimum for TMX, ICP and ACP. However, for TCP, a total removal was achieved in less than 10 min using NaCl. It was also verified that the initial pH of the solution did not significantly influence the process in the range 3-9. All these results were rationalized in this paper. Finally, to evaluate the matrix influence, some experiments were carried out in different natural surface water matrices (river, reservoir and two different WWTP effluents). The factors influencing the process were the conductivity of the solution and the organic matter content. It was noticeable that the specific energy consumption (SEC) reduced by approximately 15 % for river water and WWTP effluent. The competition between sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and methanogenic archaea (MA) depends on several factors, such as the COD/SO 4 2- ratio, sensitivity to inhibitors and even the length of the operating period in reactors. Among the inhibitors, salinity, a characteristic common to diverse types of industrial effluents, can act as an important factor. This work aimed to evaluate the long-term participation of sulfidogenesis and methanogenesis in the sulfate-rich wastewater process (COD/SO 4 2-  = 1.6) in an anaerobic structured-bed reactor (AnSTBR) using sludge not adapted to salinity. The AnSTBR was operated for 580 d under mesophilic temperature (30 °C). Salinity levels were gradually increased from 1.7 to 50 g-NaCl L -1 . Up to 35 g-NaCl L -1 , MA and SRB equally participated in COD conversion, with a slight predominance of the latter (53 ± 11%). A decrease in COD removal efficiency associated with acetate accumulation was further observed when applying 50 g-NaCl L -1 . The sulfidogenic pathway corresponded to 62 ± 17% in this case, indicating the inhibition of MA. Overall, sulfidogenic activity was less sensitive (25%-inhibition) to high salinity levels compared to methanogenesis (100%-inhibition considering the methane yield). The wide spectrum of SRB populations at different salinity levels, namely, the prevalence of Desulfovibrio sp. up to 35 g-NaCl L -1 and the additional participation of the genera Desulfobacca, Desulfatirhabdium, and Desulfotomaculum at 50 g-NaCl -1 explain such patterns. Conversely, the persistence of Methanosaeta genus was not sufficient to sustain methane production. Considering the reduction and resource utilization of landfill sludge (LS) and fresh sludge (FS), Fe 2+ activated Na 2 S 2 O 8 is proposed. The effects of the molar ratio of Fe 2+ /S 2 O 8 2- and the addition of Na 2 S 2 O 8 on the dewatering performance of sludge were studied by vacuum filtration experiments. Consolidation tests were conducted on the sludge with different Na 2 S 2 O 8 dosage, and the compression, consolidation, and permeability characteristics of the sludge were researched. Besides, via particle size distribution (PSD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) test, the variation of particle size of sludge was studied from the microscopic perspective. The results are as follows: the specific resistance of filtration (SRF) of LS and FS decreases by 99.3%, 95.2% at an optimal dosage (the molar ratio of (Fe 2+ /S 2 O 8 2- ) = 1, 30% Na 2 S 2 O 8 ); the particle size of LS and FS is significantly smaller; the consolidation and permeability coefficients are increased by 1-2 orders of magnitude compared with non-conditioned sludge; the water content of LS and FS drops from 86.5% to 58.4%, 82.4%-59.7%.
