Polymer-based V(tetracyanoethylene)x.y(solvent) magnets with low density, low power loss and high resistivity to wear and friction are used in low and static frequency magnetic shielding and inductive processes. The magnets have a high room temperature permeability value of 13 which is essential for all shielding applications.

The magnetic characteristics of a molecular-based quasi-1D anisotropic ferrimagnetic chain were investigated using isothermal remanent magnetization measurements. The results showed that both frustration and metamagnetic behavior was detected in the sample. At temperatures up to 5 K, strong magnetic hysteresis was observed. In addition, the sample featured a mainly half-integral spin character.

Unusual charge transport phenomena in the molecular-based magnet V(TCNE) was investigated using dc and audio frequency conductivity measurements. The results showed that the anomalously strong temperature dependent ac conductivity was caused by short-range ferrimagnetic correlations. Observations of the ac complex dielectric constant indicated that two relaxation mechanisms were present.

The influence of spinless solvent on the magnetic characteristics of V(TCNE) was investigated using temperature dependent ac susceptibility above 2.3 K. The results showed that the coordinating ability of the spinless solvent was a major factor in the magnetism of V(TCNE). These effects were brought about by the decrease in the number of nearest neighbor spin sites, reduced connectedness and the altered structural order.

The magnetic characteristics of decamethylchromocenium tetracyanoethanide were investigated. The results showed that the material featured a ferromagnetic transition with a critical temperature of 3.65 K. At higher temperatures, the material exhibited a strong one-dimensional ferromagnetic behavior. There was competition between the coupling constants and the residing spins.

Anomalous positive magnetoresistance (MR) in high temperature organic-based magnet V(TCNE)(sub x)(TCNE=tetracynoethylene) thin films is discussed. A large positive MR has been observed in the organic-based room temperature ferrimagnetic semiconductor V(TCNE)(sub x).
