Inspired by the emerging field of twistronics, moiré photonic structures have attracted great interest. In this paper, we introduce the concept of the moiré Kagome lattice (MKL), which arises from the overlapping of a Kagome lattice at a commensurable angle of 38.211°. MKL exhibits a significantly broader main photonic bandgap (PBG) when compared to the traditional Kagome lattice. Through numerical simulations, we delved into the adjustable properties of the PBG of MKL by varying lattice parameters, including filling factors and materials. Meanwhile, we also observed the presence of photonic flatbands within the MKL structure. Specifically, the emergence of a super flat isolated flatband aids in achieving single-mode omnidirectional lasers and enhancing the omnidirectional electromagnetic interaction of materials, thereby expanding the applications of moiré photonic crystals. In this paper, an ultra-thin metamaterial absorber (UMA) in the S-band is designed. The overall structure adopts a three-layer design. The top layer is a magnetic material, and the middle layer of the UMA is composed of a centrally symmetrical open square ring (four edges are opened) and a circular pattern placed at the center, which is etched on the FR4 dielectric substrate by printed circuit board technology. The absorptivity of the absorber is more than 90% in 1.73–4.04 GHz under normal incidence, and the fractional bandwidth is 80.1%. The total thickness of the absorber is about 3.4 mm, corresponding to 0.02 λ L at the lowest operating frequency. Moreover, it also has good polarization insensitivity and wide-angle incident characteristics. The absorption mechanism of the UMA is analyzed from the aspects of power loss density and surface current. Finally, a sample was fabricated and measured. In this paper, a wideband polarization reconfigurable omnidirectional antenna (PROA) based on a single-substrate active metasurface is proposed. By controlling the states of the PIN diodes, the antenna can selectively radiate an omnidirectional linearly polarized wave and an omnidirectional circularly polarized wave. The reflection coefficient, axial ratio (AR), radiation pattern, and gain of the proposed antenna have been analyzed from the perspective of simulation and measurement. The measured results show that the PROA has a wide overlapped bandwidth from 2.87 to 3.67 GHz (relative bandwidth 24.46%). To the authors' best knowledge, this is the first reported wideband PROA based on a single-substrate reconfigurable polarization converter. This study not only offers a novel approach to design PROAs, but also greatly reduces the design complexity of the feed source compared with the traditional design method of PROAs. When a cubic lattice is confined by a surface layer, the effective thermoelastic properties can be tailored by the prestress produced by the surface. The thermal expansion coefficient, temperature derivative of elasticity, and the equation of state (EOS) of the solid depend on the potential of each bond and the lattice structure, which can be predicted by the recently developed singum model. This paper first uses a granular lattice confined by a spherical shell to demonstrate singum modeling of the thermoelastic behavior of the cubic lattices and then extends it to atomic crystal lattices by considering the surface tension and long-range interactions. Given the elasticity and the EOS of a cubic crystal, the interatomic potential can be inversely derived. As the bond length changes with thermal expansion and pressure, the singum model predicts the temperature- and pressure-dependent elasticity. Using the orientational average, isotropic elastic constants can be obtained for polycrystals. The case study of copper (Cu) demonstrates the versatility of the model for different cubic lattices and predicts the experimental results of pressure- and temperature-dependent elasticity. The singum model is general for different lattice types and EOS forms and provides clear physical and mechanical meanings to correlate the interatomic potential, EOS, and elasticity in the closed-form formulation, which is very useful in engineering design and analysis of metal structural members in fire, geothermal, and space applications without the needs of large-scale numerical simulations. Fractures in body-centered-cubic metals and alloys below the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature are brittle. This is theoretically explained by the notion that the critical stress intensity factor of a given crack front for brittle fracture is smaller than that for plastic deformation; hence, brittle fracture is selected over plastic deformation. Although this view is true from a macroscopic perspective, such a fracture is always accompanied by small-scale plastic deformation near the crack tip, that is, crack tip plasticity. This paper investigates the origin of this plasticity using atomistic modeling with the machine learning interatomic potential of α -Fe. Some plastic modes are activated by rapid crack propagation, whereas no plasticity is activated when the crack tips are gradually fractured. Two-dimensional (2D) piezoelectric nanomaterials have widely been studied recently due to their promise for various applications in technology. Investigation of vertical piezoelectricity will contribute to a deeper understanding of the intrinsic mechanism of piezoelectric effects in the 2D structures. In this paper, we report a first-principle study for the structural, electronic, piezoelectric, and transport properties of new-designed Janus WSi Z 3 H (Z = N, P, and As) monolayers. The structural stability of WSi Z 3 H is theoretically confirmed based on the energetic, phonon dispersion, and also elastic analyses. At the ground state, while WSiN 3 H is an indirect semiconductor, both WSiP 3 H and WSiAs 3 H are predicted to be direct semiconductors with smaller bandgaps. When the spin-orbit coupling effects are taken into account, a large valley spin splitting is observed at the K point of WSi Z 3 H materials. Interestingly, a giant Rashba spin splitting is found in WSiP 3 H and WSiAs 3 H with Rashba constant α R up to 770.91 meV Å. Additionally, our first-principles study indicates that Janus WSi Z 3 H monolayers are piezoelectric semiconductors with high out-of-plane piezoelectric coefficient | d 31 | , up to 0.15 pm/V, due to the broken mirror symmetry. Besides, with high electron mobilities and also possessing direct band gaps, WSiP 3 H and WSiAs 3 H monolayers are favorable for applications in optoelectronics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We use a 2.5D hybrid simulation to study the breathing mode (BM) dynamics in Hall thrusters (HTs). This involves a 1D Euler fluid simulation for neutral dynamics in the axial direction, coupled with a 2D axial–azimuthal Particle-in-Cell (PIC) simulation for charged species. The simulation also includes an out-of-plane virtual dimension for wall losses. This setup allows us to replicate the BM's macroscopic features observed in experiments. A comprehensive analysis of plasma parameters in BM's phases divides it into two growth and two decay sub-phases. Examining 1D axial profiles of electron temperature, gas and plasma densities, and particle creation rate shows that an increase in electron temperature alone cannot sustain ionization. Ionization seems to be influenced by the spatial correlation between electron and gas densities and the ionization rate coefficient. Investigating ion back-flow reveals its impact on modulating neutral flux entering the ionization region. The hybrid simulation's outcomes let us assess the usual 0D predator–prey model's validity and identify its limitations. The ionization and ion convection term approximations hold, but the gas convective term approximation does not. Introducing an alternative gas convective term approximation involving constant density ejection from the ionization region constructs an unstable BM model consistent with simulation results. In addition, this paper explores how varying the imposed voltage and mass flow rate impacts the BM. The BM frequency increases with imposed voltage, aligning with theoretical predictions. We deduce equations to calculate coupling coefficients of diamond micro-ring resonators. The equations can be used universally at any wavelength but not limited to the transmission peaks/valleys, and can be adapted with triangular cross-sections and tapered waveguides. Consequently, we build three models in accordance to different diamond processing technologies. These models deal with ring resonators with either rectangular cross sections, or triangular cross sections, or with tapered bus for triangular cross sections. The calculated coupling coefficients can be well fitted by exponential decay functions of gap d. Due to geometrical limitations, triangular-cross-sectional diamond resonators are shown to have much smaller (factor 20) coupling coefficients than those of rectangular-cross-sectional resonators. A tapered bus is shown to be beneficial to increase the coupling coefficient. Besides the calculation of coupling coefficients, the method presented in the paper can also be used to calculate the bending loss of micro-ring resonators, as a complement to the existing methods. This paper investigates a systematic theoretical study of the lattice dynamical, electronic, and thermoelectric transport properties of PbTe, which is subjected to hydrostatic pressure and uniaxial stress along the [100], [110], and [111] directions, by using first-principles calculations. Our study demonstrates that stress is an effective tool for regulating thermoelectric properties in materials, and different types of stress affect these properties through distinct mechanisms. Specifically, under hydrostatic pressure and uniaxial stress along the [100] direction, PbTe exhibits similar electronic behavior but different lattice dynamical properties. Bandgap closure and reopening are observed under hydrostatic pressure and uniaxial stress along the [100] direction, whereas only the gap opposite trends are seen for uniaxial stress along the [110] and [111] directions. Under uniaxial stress along the [100] direction, phonon lifetimes decrease, leading to low thermal conductivity. In contrast, under hydrostatic pressure and uniaxial stress in the [110] and [111] directions, phonon lifetimes are enhanced due to a weakening of the anharmonic effect. With the in-depth study of open optical systems, the topological phases of non-Hermitian metasurfaces have attracted increasing attention due to their topological protection properties. Here, in this paper, a tunable non-Hermitian metasurface with bidirectional anisotropism is proposed. By incorporating the phase change material vanadium dioxide (VO2) into the metasurface, two topological exceptional points (EPs) appear in the system by adjusting the conductivity of VO2 and chiral responses appear at both EPs. This research shows that the conductivity significantly affects the reflection of the metasurface, and the zero-reflection points correspond to the EPs of the non-Hermitian system. Further results prove that circling around EPs leads to a 2π phase change, which is topologically protected and independent of the encirclement path. Therefore, this study employs an active control approach to realize two topological EPs. Through comprehensive investigations into the topological properties and chiral performance at EPs, we elucidate the mechanism for the chirality generation in non-Hermitian metasurfaces, which offers feasible solutions for the development of chiral topological devices and light transmission and modulation in future applications. In the present paper, we apply a blind fitting algorithm to model two-dimensional energy-incidence angle maps of soft x-ray resonant reflectivity measured in nanoscale epitaxial multilayers of multiferroic ε-Fe2O3 grown by pulsed laser deposition. The possibility of fitting the spectral shape of the complex refraction index across the Fe L3 absorption edge without having an initial guess about the optical constants has been demonstrated. The spectral shape fitting of the real (f1) and imaginary (f2) parts of the atomic scattering factor has been carried out by using a specially designed software utilizing OpenCL fast calculations on graphical processing units. The Kramers-Kronig relations between f1 and f2 are automatically taken into account by the fitting algorithm. A reasonable agreement between blindly generated and reference scattering factor spectra derived independently from an x-ray absorption spectroscopy experiment has been demonstrated. The blind fitting has been compared with the alternative refinement routines, in which small free variations of the reference spectral shapes (or no variations at all) have been allowed. The presented approach to the resonant x-ray reflectometry modeling makes it unnecessary to acquire the optical constant spectral shapes in advance and, thus, is especially helpful when such spectra cannot be physically measured, e.g., for a buried layer of a multilayer system. Copper (Cu) interconnections have been widely used in advanced electronic packaging due to their outstanding thermal and electric properties. Preparing a smooth and uniform Cu seed thin layer is one of the critical processes to obtain high-reliability Cu interconnections. The barrier layer between Cu and silicon (Si) devices is necessary to prevent the inter-diffusion between Cu and Si. However, little work has been done on the surface roughness analysis of the Cu seed layer deposited on the diffusion barrier layer. In this paper, the influences of deposition thickness, incident energy, barrier layer temperature, and surface morphology on the surface roughness of the Cu seed layer deposited on α-titanium (α-Ti) barrier layer were studied in detail by the molecular dynamics (MD). The simulation results indicated that appropriate parameters have a beneficial effect on reducing the surface roughness, and the surface morphology of the Cu seed layer strongly connects with that of the barrier layer. Quantum Dot Cellular Automata (QCA) and reversible logic have emerged as promising alternatives to conventional CMOS technology, offering several advantages, such as ultra-dense structures and ultra-low-power consumption. Among the crucial components of processors, the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) has witnessed significant advancements in reversible computing, leading to energy-efficient and high-speed computing systems, particularly beneficial for Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications. Conventional ALUs, reliant on irreversible logic, encounter energy inefficiencies due to information loss during computations, resulting in increased power consumption. Moreover, they may face limitations in processing speed, impacting real-time processing capabilities, especially for complex DSP tasks involving intensive arithmetic and logic operations. In response to these challenges, a research paper presents a pioneering approach, proposing a novel reversible ALU design using QCA nanotechnology. The proposed design ingeniously incorporates Modified Fredkin (MF) gates, and a coplanar reversible full adder based on the HNG gate, skillfully leveraging the unique features of QCA nanotechnology to optimize the ALU's energy-efficient and high-speed performance for DSP applications. This revolutionary QCA reversible ALU comprises 330 QCA cells arranged in a compact 0.41 μm2 area, skillfully realized through the coplanar clock-zone-based crossover approach. Its core computational elements, the three MF gates, and the innovative coplanar reversible full adder empower the ALU to execute a remarkable array of 20 distinct arithmetic and logic operations, showcasing its versatility in handling diverse DSP tasks. The proposed structure undergoes extensive simulations utilizing QCADesigner version 2.0.3 to confirm its performance. The evaluation results manifest substantial improvements compared to previous designs, boasting a 30% reduction in area occupancy, a 20% decrement in cell count, a 10% reduction in latency, and a 10% decrease in quantum cost compared to the best-known previous structure. The band-anticrossing (BAC) model provides the basis for the self-consistent Green's function method that we have previously developed to calculate the density of states of GaN x As 1 − x dilute nitride alloys. In this paper, we extend this Green's function method to include the complex energy states and to find the poles of the Green's function, thereby allowing one to calculate the dispersion relation, group velocity, and the carrier decay rate in disordered dilute nitride alloys. Two different models of the N states have been studied to investigate the band structure of these materials: (1) the conventional two-band BAC model, which assumes that all N states are located at the same energy, and (2) a model which includes N states distributed over a range of energies, as expected in actual dilute nitride samples. Our results for the second model show a much shorter carrier mean-free path, and lower carrier mobility for GaN x As 1 − x , with the magnitude of the calculated mobility in good agreement with the experimental data. This paper presents a new conformal mapping method to solve 2D Laplace and Poisson equations in MOS devices. More specifically, it consists of an analytical solution of the 2D Laplace equation in a rectangular domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions, with arbitrary values on the boundaries. The advantages of the new method are that all four edges of the rectangle are taken into account and the solution consists of closed-form analytical expressions, which make it fast and suitable for compact modeling. The new model was validated against other similar methods. It was found that the new model is much faster, easier to implement, and avoids many numerical issues, especially near the boundaries, at the cost of a very small loss in accuracy. Two-dimensional magnetic materials have been increasingly studied and discussed in the field of spintronics due to their unique electronic properties, high spin polarizability, and a variety of magnetic properties. In this paper, we report a new two-dimensional bilayer hexagonal monolayer material bilayer hexagonal structure (BHS)-CrN2 by first-principles calculations. The BHS-CrN2 nanosheet is an intrinsic ferromagnetic semiconductor material, and the Curie temperature obtained by Monte Carlo simulation is 343 K. The absence of a significant imaginary frequency in the phonon spectrum indicates the dynamic stability of BHS-CrN2. After ab initio molecular dynamics simulation, the supercell of BHS-CrN2 remains a complete structure, indicating its thermal stability. The calculated elastic moduli satisfy the Born–Huang criterion, indicating that the BHS-CrN2 system has good mechanical stability. Interestingly, the compressive strain and O atom doping can transform the electronic structure of BHS-CrN2 from a semiconductor to a half-metal, and the Curie temperature of BHS-CrN2 can be further increased to 1059 K when a 5% tensile strain is applied. Furthermore, the BHS-CrN2 in the ferromagnetic state shows a significant in-plane magnetic anisotropy energy of 0.01 meV per Cr, and the CrP2 and CrAs2 show a large out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy energy of 0.207 and 0.988 meV per Cr, respectively. The results show that the intrinsic ferromagnetic semiconductor BHS-CrN2 has good stability, high Curie temperature, and tunable magnetic properties, which is a promising material for room-temperature spintronic devices. Low-noise fluxgate magnetometers are normally comprised of three separate devices: a power supply, the sensor head/electronics and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). This paper presents a parallel rod fluxgate magnetometer in a single printed circuit board of size = 5 × 12 cm, weight = 45 g, and sensor head average power dissipation = 40 mW. The open-loop noise spectral density = 5 p T r m s / Hz @ 1 Hz , competitive with state-of-the-art devices. This is realized using a new amorphous wire core material and programmable mixed-signal electronics with low amplifier and ADC noise. We have compared the sensor performance to a low-noise observatory magnetometer and found sub-nT correlation when tracking the Y (East-West) component of the Earth's geomagnetic field. With the proportional reduction of metal–oxide–semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) devices, the short channel effect, the parasitic effect, and the field strength effect are significantly enhanced, the proportion of parasitic resistance increases, and the non-intrinsic noise also increases, which seriously affects the working efficiency of the device. However, existing research mainly focuses on the intrinsic noise of MOSFET, and there is little research on the non-intrinsic noise; furthermore, the models describing the relationship between non-intrinsic noise, device structure, and bias have not yet been addressed. Therefore, in this paper, 90, 65, 32, 10, and 5 nm MOSFETs are studied. The rate of the intrinsic ballistic parameter is introduced to set up the source–drain current model and the non-intrinsic noise model. The source–drain current model is consistent with the theoretical model, numerical simulation, and experimental results in the literature. Finally, the relationship between the non-intrinsic noise and the bias and the device parameters are analyzed, and the conclusion is helpful to improve the working efficiency, lifetime, and response speed of nanoscale MOSFET devices. Underwater pulsed spark discharge has been widely used in industrial fields as a source of shock waves or acoustic waves, and numerical modeling of the discharge and pressure wave characteristics is necessary to improve the application performance. In this paper, a numerical model is proposed that couples the circuit equation, the mass and energy conservation equations, and a momentum conservation equation based on the Rankine–Hugoniot conditions. A tabulated wide range equation of state and conductivity data of water are used, and various physical processes during the plasma channel expansion are considered, including the energy flow and mass exchange between the channel and the surrounding water due to thermal radiation, evaporation, and condensation. The model self-consistently solves the circuit current and voltage, the plasma channel parameters including composition, temperature, conductivity, pressure, etc., and the pressure profile at a certain distance from the discharge channel. The calculated results show good consistency with the experimental measurements, and three sets of experimental results from other literature are tested to further verify the applicability and effectiveness of the model. Metasurface analogs of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) are attracting sustaining attention due to their ability to maintain transparency windows accompanied by extreme dispersion of propagating waves, which are important for slow light devices and highly sensitive optical sensors. In this paper, we study theoretically, numerically, and experimentally the conditions for the existence of multi-band transparency windows in the metasurface supported by the interaction of dipole modes in an asymmetric unit cell. The unit cell is composed of a single bright resonator and several dark resonators made in the form of rectangular metal patches. The manifestation of EIT is studied for different metasurface configurations by varying the number and positions of resonators used within the unit cell. To validate the slow-down effect caused by EIT, a prototype of the metasurface is fabricated and tested, providing a measurement of the group delay and bandwidth-delay product features. The obtained results clearly confirm the presence of four EIT-like transparency windows in the metasurface transmission spectra originating from the coupling between either quasi-TE or quasi-TM modes of the resonators. Active thermography using pulsed heating is a fast and reliable method for detecting flaws in composite and metallic materials. This paper analyzes the temperature decay that occurs immediately after flash heating the front surface of stainless steel specimens as a function of time, based on a novel application of the equivalent circuit approach (ECA). The temperature decay from the front surface is equated to the discharge of a capacitor. The ECA is based on the charging (temperature rise due to flash heating) of a capacitor, followed by its discharge (temperature decay) through a series of resistors (which depends on the conductivity of the material) and capacitance (which depends on the thermal capacitance of the layers) through which the heat is dissipated. The proposed approach analyzes the sequences of temperature data obtained at each pixel location during cooling from a step wedge and a specimen with multiple flat-bottom holes. Time constant maps derived from the analysis are used to ascertain the thickness of the step wedge, detect the flaws, and evaluate the remnant thickness of the flaws. In this paper, we report an analysis of reverse current mechanisms observed in GaN Schottky barrier diodes leading to hysteretic behavior of the I–V curves at low temperature. By means of DC measurements from 33 to 475 K, we demonstrate the presence of two leakage mechanisms when comparing the experiments with the results obtained using a unified model to predict the ideal reverse current of the diode. Poole–Frenkel emission is the dominant mechanism for temperatures above 200 K, while trap-assisted tunneling prevails for lower temperatures, where also, hysteresis cycles are revealed by means of DC dual-sweep voltage measurements. The energy of the corresponding traps has also been determined, being around 0.2 and 0.45 eV, respectively. The hysteresis phenomenon is attributed to the bias-induced occupancy of the energy states originating the leakage-current processes, which leads to the reduction of the reverse current after a high negative voltage is applied to the diode. Electrospinning is a cost-effective but very intricate method of producing polymeric nanofibers at room temperature. Unfortunately however, it is extremely difficult to predict the diameter or other properties of the fibers produced via electrospinning a prior. In this paper, we present a new approach to simulate fiber formation during electrospinning. Our work builds on the mathematical framework that was originally developed by Reneker and Yarin in 2000. Our approach incorporates the 3D electrostatic field that surrounds the fiber in a Lagrangian discrete particle tracking algorithm that tracks the trajectory of the fiber in air and predicts its deposition velocity and diameter. We investigate the effects of electrostatic field spatial variation on fiber electrospinning and compare our results with those obtained using a constant electrostatic field, the traditional approach, and with experiments (conducted using polyurethane). We considered three different electrospinning configurations of single-needle-plate-collector, single-needle-drum-collector, and two-needles-drum-collector to investigate how different electrostatic fields impact fiber formation. Acoustic holography (AH) provides a promising technique for arbitrary acoustic field reconstruction, supporting many applications like robotic micro-nano manipulation, neuromodulation, volumetric imaging, and virtual reality. In AH, three-dimensional (3D) acoustic fields quantified with complex-valued acoustic pressures are reconstructed by virtue of two-dimensional (2D) acoustic holograms. Phase-only hologram (POH) is recently regarded as an energy-efficient way for AH, which is typically implemented by a dynamically programmable phased array of transducers (PATs). As a result, spatiotemporal precise acoustic field reconstruction is enabled by precise, dynamic, and individual actuation of PAT. Thus, 2D POH is required per arbitrary acoustic fields, which can be viewed as a physical inverse problem. However, solving the aforementioned physical inverse problem in numerical manners poses challenges due to its non-linear, high-dimensional, and complex coupling natures. The existing iterative algorithms like the iterative angular spectrum approach (IASA) and iterative backpropagation (IB) still suffer from speed-accuracy trade-offs. Hence, this paper explores a novel physics-iterative-reinforced deep learning method, in which frequency-argument contrastive learning is proposed facilitated by the inherent physical nature of AH, and the energy conservation law is under consideration. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for acoustic field reconstruction, highlighting its significant potential in the domain of acoustics, and pushing forward the combination of physics into deep learning. The dual-scrambling scheme that combines position transformation and bit-plane transformation is a popular image encryption scheme. However, such schemes need more key information, and the encryption and decryption processes are complicated. In addition, the existing quantum image dual-scrambling schemes mainly deal with square images. In this paper, we propose a hybrid scrambling encryption scheme for multi-mode quantum image representation (MQIR) images based on random permutation, in which the H × W quantum image is represented in MQIR. A random number generator factor s uniquely associates one of the random permutations of integers from 1 to a positive integer, so as to hybrid scramble both the pixel position and the binarized position of each pixel value. Meanwhile, the quantum circuits and some examples of scrambling are given. Furthermore, various analyses of the performance of this scheme were conducted, including effectiveness, key space, and computational complexity. By modifying the random generation factor to construct multiple binary grayscale images, the simulated results on the IBM Quantum Cloud platform demonstrate that the proposed quantum image encryption scheme is effective. In comparison to existing quantum image dual scrambling schemes, it is both simple and effective, offering a large key space, lower computational complexity, and applicability to non-square quantum images. Realization of microwave-absorbing materials with "small thickness, light weight, broad bandwidth, and low reflectivity" is an invariable topic. In this paper, Sm2Fe14BHx/polyurethane (SFBH/PU) composites with planar anisotropy were prepared by reduction–diffusion (R/D) and water bath hydrogenation (WBH) process. A minimum reflection loss (RL) value reaches −59.7 dB at the perfect matching frequency of 13.79 GHz with a thickness of only 1.035 mm. Compared with unhydrogenated SFB, the bandwidth and reflectivity are significantly improved. It is mainly attributed to the fact that introduction of hydrogen atoms effectively modulates the electromagnetic parameters and increases the Snoek limit ((μ i − 1) f r) , which leads to the improvement of the high-frequency microwave absorption performance. While existing research has explored control strategies in multi-dimensional fields, the interconnectedness between electromagnetic and vibrational fields remains relatively uncharted. To explore this intersection and harness its potential, we propose an intelligent programmable metasurface that modulates electromagnetic fields based on vibration intensity information. This paper introduces a groundbreaking approach that synergizes the physical fields of mechanical (vibrational) waves with electromagnetic waves, facilitating the detection and manipulation of information from both fields. By combining a programmable metasurface, vibration sensors, and microcontroller units, we have achieved regulation of the electromagnetic field through utilization of vibration intensity information. In this work, we have introduced six coding patterns that facilitate dual-beam scanning with variable deflection angles. A 20 × 20 metasurface is fabricated and measured, and the measured results are in good agreement with the simulated results. This research opens a new avenue for manipulating electromagnetic waves. The vibration of a transformer core induced by magnetostriction is closely related to the environment and safety of devices. The DC bias excitation leads to the over saturation of the transformer core and causes more severe vibration. In this paper, a magnetic-mechanical strong coupling model based on a fixed-point time-periodic 2D finite element method with excitation voltage and DC bias current as the input is established in which the vector magnetic potential A, winding current I, and displacement in the core u are simultaneously taken as solution variables, and the fixed-point reluctivity is introduced to deal with the nonlinear problem of the core. In this model, the magnetic field and mechanical field are associated with the piezomagnetic equations and variational principle, and the circuit and magnetic fields are connected through the law of electromagnetic induction. The equivalent thickness of the core model and the determination of the initial value are discussed. A test transformer with a laminated core is made for experimental measurement. The accuracy and efficiency of the model proposed are verified by comparing the calculated results with the experimental results, and the influence of DC bias components on the magnetic characteristics and vibration of the transformer core is analyzed. Cytoskeletal gels are engineered prototypes that mimic the contractile behavior of a cell in vitro. They are composed of an active polymer matrix and a liquid solvent. Their contraction kinetics is governed by two dynamic phenomena: mechanotransduction (molecular motor activation) and solvent diffusion. In this paper, we solve the transient problem for the simple case of a thin gel slab in uniaxial contraction under two extreme conditions: motor-limited or slow motor (SM) activation regime, and diffusion-limited or fast motor (FM) activation regime. The former occurs when diffusion is much faster than mechanotransduction, while the latter occurs in the opposite case. We observe that in the SM regime, the contraction time scales as t / t 0 ∼ (λ / λ 0) − 3 , with t 0 being the nominal contraction time, and λ and λ 0 being the final and initial stretches of the slab. t 0 is proportional to 1 / w ˙ , where w ˙ is the average mechanical power generated by the molecular motors per unit reference (dry polymer) volume. In the FM regime, the contraction time scales as t / t 1 ∼ (1 − λ / λ 0) 2 , with t 1 being the nominal contraction time, here proportional to the ratio L 2 / D , where L is the reference (dry polymer) thickness, and D is the diffusivity of the solvent in the gel. The targeted concentration of acoustic waves has significant implications for industrial nondestructive testing, ultrasound diagnosis, and medical treatment. Most conventional sound-focusing metasurfaces suffer from an untunable focus, narrow bandwidth, and fixed geometric configurations, which severely constrain their practical utility. In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable acoustic coding metasurface composed of two coding units with high transmittance and transmitted phases of 0 and π for realizing tunable and broadband sound focusing. Through the straightforward manipulation of each unit structure and alterations in the coding sequences, precise control of the focus position across the entire working plane is attainable, enabling both tunable axial-axis and off-axis sound-focusing effects. Moreover, the sound-focusing performance of the proposed metasurface is excellent within a broad frequency range from 3000 to 5500 Hz. The experimental results are consistent with theoretical expectations and numerical simulations. Influence of chemical composition on the bandgap of AlGaInAs deposited on InP is often calculated using models for unstrained composition and then corrected for strain-induced bandgap energy changes using deformation potentials. This method relies on up to 25 coefficients, many of which are burdened with large uncertainty. In this paper, a large set of experimental data is used to verify the accuracy of existing approaches and to search for optimal deformation potentials. It is shown that the main source of inaccuracy is not the deformation potentials, but the unstrained bandgap formulas. Additionally, a novel model is proposed, yielding the highest accuracy on our dataset. For the first time, composition determination of a quaternary alloy on InP is reported using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry, which is used as a benchmark for modeling. Coherent Ising Machine (CIM) is a network of optical parametric oscillators that solve combinatorial optimization problems by finding the ground state of an Ising Hamiltonian. In CIMs, a problem arises when attempting to realize the Zeeman term because of the mismatch in size between interaction and Zeeman terms due to the variable amplitude of the optical parametric oscillator pulses corresponding to spins. There have been three approaches proposed so far to address this problem for CIM, including the absolute mean amplitude method, the auxiliary spin method, and the chaotic amplitude control (CAC) method. This paper focuses on the efficient implementation of Zeeman terms within the mean-field CIM model, which is a physics-inspired heuristic solver without quantum noise. With the mean-field model, computation is easier than with more physically accurate models, which makes it suitable for implementation in field programmable gate arrays and large-scale simulations. First, we examined the performance of the mean-field CIM model for realizing the Zeeman term with the CAC method, as well as their performance when compared to a more physically accurate model. Next, we compared the CAC method to other Zeeman term realization techniques on the mean-field model and a more physically accurate model. For over half a century, traditional silicon-based integrated circuits (ICs) have been the basis of computational electronics and are widely used in computers, cell phones, and other fields. With the rapid development of human society, silicon-based semiconductor technology is approaching its physical and engineering limits. Our increasing diversity of non-traditional computing needs, such as ultra-small, ultra-fast, ultra-low-power wearables, and space radiation protection, is driving the search for new electronic materials. Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWCNTs) have many excellent electrical properties, such as high carrier mobility and high ballistic transport, making them strong candidates for new semiconductor materials in the post-Moore era. Carbon-based electronic technology has been developed for over 20 years, and the fundamental issues such as the material purification of s-SWCNTs, preparation prospects of s-SWCNT-based field-effect transistors (CNT FETs), and device physics based on CNT FETs have been basically solved. However, the chiral diversity of s-SWCNTs may lead to problems such as fluctuations in the electrical performance of CNT FETs, limiting the application of s-SWCNTs in high-end ICs. Monochiral s-SWCNTs not only have excellent electrical properties but also have a controllable structure and uniformity, which are crucial for the high-end IC of CNTs. However, some problems exist in the purity and yield of monochiral s-SWCNT preparation and the optimization of monochiral CNT FETs. Therefore, the chiral sorting of CNTs is reviewed in this paper, and the progress of polymer reprocessing in chiral separation is highlighted. Then, the research progress of monochiral CNT FETs is introduced, and possible development directions are summarized and analyzed. Efficient absorption of solar radiation holds the key to photothermal utilization; however, realizing solar absorber designs with high absorption efficiency remains challenging. Herein, a nickel-based metamaterial selective solar absorber with a nanopillar array structure was proposed to realize nearly perfect optical absorption over a broad spectrum. The average absorbance is up to 96% in the 300–2033 nm wavelength range. Notably, a reasonably detailed analysis of the physical mechanism of the proposed absorber was performed in this paper, attributing the exceptional broadband absorption to the concurrent interaction with surface plasmon resonance, quarter-wavelength resonance, and electric dipole resonance. The absorption efficiency declines significantly when λ > 2.5 μm, with only 20% absorptivity at λ = 6 μm in the radiation-absorbing transition region. This decline is desirable, as it contributes to reducing the emissivity in the mid-infrared range and, therefore, prevents self-radiation. The results demonstrate that the selective absorber possesses the potential to capture solar energy within a broadband, while avoiding undesirable self-radiation, thereby enhancing the integral efficiency of the solar energy conversion system. Moreover, the absorption spectrum shows insensitivity to polarization and angle of incidence. Due to the incoherent superposition of various color light transmission matrices (TMs) in space, it has always been a challenge to measure the multi-color light TMs directly or indirectly in the field of wavefront shaping. In this paper, a hybrid algorithm for indirectly measuring the TMs of multi-color light is proposed. The prominent feature of this algorithm is that the spatial and frequency domain information of the speckle patterns is simultaneously input into the multi-input fully connected neural network. Compared with previous spatial data-driven methods, our method can better learn the mapping relationships hidden behind the color samples, making the measurement of the TMs of multi-color light through the scattering media more accurate. Experimental results show that the enhancement factor of multi-point multi-color light focusing using the hybrid algorithm is improved by about 27% compared with the genetic algorithm, and the number of iterations is reduced by about 47%. The described method is intended for application as a diagnostic tool for a nonstationary, short-lived plasma (in particular, for the laser-produced plasma). It is based on taking into account the lifetime of a laser-produced plasma, which is so short (several nanoseconds) that it is not enough for the ionization equilibrium to be established. Among mechanisms leading to appearance of an ion with a given charge Z in the plasma, only the electron-collisional ionization is considered, because contributions of other phenomena turn out to be negligible. The method is discussed as an example of a plasma excited on the Xe gas-jet target. The necessary collisional cross sections of ions from+7Xe to+16Xe have been calculated specifically for this study using a quantum-mechanical numerical simulation, with its principles and features being also presented in the paper. To demonstrate capabilities of the method, it has been applied to one of the experimental cases when the plasma was produced by the laser beam focused on the Xe gas-jet target. The time-integrated energy of laser radiation absorbed in the plasma was measured, and the absorption coefficient, μ, was derived from it with a correction for the plasma lifetime, which was several times shorter than the laser pulse. Using the method described here, the values of ⟨ Z ⟩ and then μ were calculated as a function of temperature. The time-averaged plasma temperature, T, in the above-mentioned experiment was believed to be equal to that at which the calculated and experimentally determined values of μ coincided. In this paper, we investigated the properties of transition metal (TM)-doped α - G a 2 O 3 using first-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulations. α - G a 2 O 3 is a wide-bandgap semiconductor material with enhanced performance and lower fabrication costs on sapphire substrates compared to β - G a 2 O 3 . Doping with TMs can modify electrical transport, optical absorption, and magnetic properties, yet theoretical studies on this are scarce. Our study focused on V, Cr, Mn, and Fe impurities. We introduced a newly proposed scheme for efficiently determining the ground-state defect configuration during structural relaxation. We adopt a recent, novel image charge correction method to accurately calculate formation enthalpy and thermodynamic transition levels for spin-polarized transition metal ion doping, without employing the empirical dielectric constant. Results showed Cr ions tend to neutral substitutional Ga, while V, Mn, and Fe impurity ions tend to carry a negative charge in common n-type α - G a 2 O 3 . Magnetic moments and spin-splitting impurity levels primarily arise from transition metal impurities and their d orbitals. We used the generalized four-state method to calculate exchange interaction constants between substitution lattice sites and identified (anti) ferromagnetic couplings at specific distances in a 120-atom supercell, which are negligible in total energy calculations. Monte Carlo simulations indicated a Curie temperature of 360 K in n-type α - G a 2 O 3 : Mn system with 12.5% doping, suggesting intrinsic ferromagnetic ordering based on the Heisenberg model. Our study contributes to understanding TM-doped α - G a 2 O 3 electronic structure and magnetic properties through improved methodologies. This paper investigates the optimization of the inner thermal layout in nanofluid-filled horizontal annular pipes under natural convection conditions. Two-dimensional models of annular pipes are established using a numerical simulation approach. Then, using this as the simulation tool, the layouts of single-, triple-, and quadruple-heat-source annular pipes are optimized. The coordinates of the inner cylinders are defined as the decision variables, and the average Nusselt number (Nu) on the cold wall surface as the objective function. For the single-cylinder model, both the Bayesian optimization algorithm (BOA) and the genetic algorithm (GA) derive the same results: an axisymmetric layout where the single heat source is positioned slightly above the axis of the annulus. However, the BOA takes much less computational time than the GA and, consequently, is chosen for cases with more complex geometry. The optimization layout of the three-cylinder model also shows an axisymmetric distribution, while the result for the four-cylinder model presents a centrally symmetric distribution. Compared to the original average Nu, the optimized ones are enhanced by 17.83%, 8.36%, and 6.18% for single-, triple-, and quadruple-heat-source annular pipes, respectively. In this paper, we examined the effects of proximity-induced interactions such as Rashba spin-orbit coupling and effective Zeeman fields (EZFs) on the optical spectrum of n -type and p -type monolayer (ML)-MoS 2. The optical conductivity is evaluated using the standard Kubo formula under random-phase approximation by including the effective electron–electron interaction. It has been found that there exist two absorption peaks in n -type ML-MoS 2 and two knife shaped absorptions in p -type ML-MoS 2 , which are contributed by the inter-subband spin-flip electronic transitions within conduction and valence bands at valleys K and K ′ with a lifted valley degeneracy. The optical absorptions in n -type and p -type ML-MoS 2 occur in THz and infrared radiation regimes and the position, height, and shape of them can be effectively tuned by Rashba parameter, EZF parameters, and carrier density. The interesting theoretical predictions in this study would be helpful for the experimental observation of the optical absorption in infrared to THz bandwidths contributed by inter-subband spin-flip electronic transitions in a lifted valley degeneracy monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides system. The complex permeability and power losses are very important parameters for soft magnetic materials. In this paper, the temperature dependence of these two parameters is investigated for Mn–Zn ferrite. The Hopkinson peak was observed at 440 K below the Curie temperature (TC), and the domain-wall resonance peaks and the natural resonance peaks gradually move to lower frequencies until the Hopkinson temperature (TH). Further, the domain-wall resonance peaks from relaxation type to resonance type are observed by fitting the permeability spectrum, which is related to the reduction of the loss factor. In addition, the power losses were measured from 245 to 365 K and divided into hysteresis loss (Ph), eddy current loss (Pe), and excess loss (Pexc). Each loss contribution was discussed to be dependent on temperature. In this paper, we have investigated red light (∼ 660 nm) and magnetic field dependence of impedance across (100 − x)% ZnO(zinc oxide)– x % rGO(reduced graphene oxide)/La 0.7 Sr 0.3 MnO 3 (LSMO)/ITO (x =0,0.6,0.8,100) heterostructure devices. Field-induced scattering due to the spin filter effect and spin polarized tunneling (SPT) have been extracted from the zinc oxide–reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite/LSMO space charge region (ZnO–rGO/LSMO SCR) and the LSMO active region of the devices, respectively. Higher SPT leads to higher LSMO SCR scattering across the devices. Devices with higher rGO contents could not be fitted with two RC circuits as resistance values because the two phenomena are incomparable with each other. Light-induced scattering has been observed at the ZnO–rGO nanocomposite active region and ZnO–rGO/LSMO SCR of the devices. For composite devices with x =0.8 and 0.6, higher photocarrier generation at ZnO–rGO nanocomposite active layer leads to enhanced scattering at LSMO SCR with light illumination. Light-dependent scattering at both regions, however, follows almost same decreasing trend for bare devices with x =0, 100. The decreasing trend of light-dependent scattering for ZnO/LSMO/ITO and rGO/LSMO/ITO bare devices suddenly gets reversed and, eventually, follows an increasing trend at magnetic field ambiance of 0.5 and 1 kOe, respectively. The LSMO SCRs of the bare devices got enhanced with the field, leading to a light-dependent response similar to composite devices at the higher field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Period phase gradient metasurface plays a great role in promoting the innovation of acoustic application devices. However, harnessing the internal thermal viscosity of the period phase gradient metasurface to realize sound absorption and non-reciprocal transmission faces the narrow working frequency band and uncontrollable efficiency. In this paper, we propose a lossy metasurface by embedded microperforated walls to realize sound redirection and absorption with high efficiency than 90% simultaneously. The phase modulation is realized using an opening channel, which can cover the 2 π phase range in a broadband frequency range by changing the channel depth. The loss introduced by the microperforated walls can achieve efficient sound energy dissipation when negative reflection occurs. The functions can be switched between wave redirection and wave absorption by rotating the metasurface. In addition, this metasurface can redirect the incident wave below −10° and absorb the incident wave above 25° over a wide frequency range from 1500 to 6500 Hz. The simulation and experiment results of our design are in excellent agreement. This research provided a new bridge to integrate wave redirection and absorption with microperforated walls and may have potential applications in acoustic sensing, sound source identification, and mechanical fault diagnosis. This paper reviews the evolution of the charge pumping (CP) technique and its applications from the micrometer-scale to the atomic-scale device era. We describe the more significant milestones of the CP technique (CPT) over the past couple of decades, giving insight into its potentialities. This paper presents polarization loss and imprint in bilayer ferroelectric tunnel junctions as a function of relaxation time (< 1 s) and after different SET/RESET pulses. Measurements were performed on Hf 0.5 Zr 0.5 O 2 /Al 2 O 3 stack at room temperature and systematically compared to reference samples without Al 2 O 3. The experimental results were interpreted using self-consistent simulations coupling the polarization dynamic with charge trapping at the FE/DE interface. From this, mechanisms playing on short-term retention and imprint were explained dynamically. Phonons confined in mechanical resonators can be coupled to a variety of quantum systems and are expected to be applied to hybrid quantum systems. Diamond surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are capable of high efficiency in phonon interaction with color centers in diamond. The temperature dependence of the quality factor is crucial for inferring the governing mechanism of coupling efficiency between phonons and color centers in diamond. In this paper, we report on the temperature dependence of the quality factor of an AlN/diamond SAW device from room temperature to 5 K. The temperature dependence of the quality factor and resonant frequency suggests that the mechanism of SAW dissipation in the AlN/diamond SAW resonator at 5 GHz is the phonon–phonon scattering in the Akheiser regime and that further cooling can be expected to improve the quality factor. Due to their potential applications in energy production based on waste heat, direct solar radiation or other energy sources, semiconductor materials have for years attracted the attention of theoretical and experimental researchers. The focus has been on improving the performance of thermoelectric devices through several strategies and special interest has been placed on materials with spatially inhomogeneous transport properties. Inhomogeneity can be achieved in various ways, all of them leading, to a greater or lesser extent, to an improvement of the thermoelectric performance. In this paper, general linear heat and electric charge transport processes in inhomogeneous materials are addressed. The guiding idea followed here is that there exists a relationship between inhomogeneity (structuring), minimum entropy production and performance which may be fruitfully exploited for designing more efficient thermoelectric semiconductor devices. We first show that the stationary states of such materials are minimum global entropy production states. This constitutes an extension of the validity of Prigogine's minimum entropy principle. The heat and charge transport equations obtained within the framework of classical irreversible thermodynamics are solved to find the stationary profiles of temperature and self-consistent electric potential in a one-dimensional model of a silicon–germanium alloy subjected to an external temperature difference. This allows us to assess the effect of the spatial inhomogeneity on the thermoelectric performance. In this paper, we designed double V-shaped Al/Ni multilayer energy-containing microdevices with different V-angles, and we performed finite element modeling and simulation of the heat transfer process of the designed energy-containing microdevice. Temperature-dependent resistivity was introduced to effectively simulate the phase change during ignition. We simulated the temperature and current density distribution in the central region of the Al/Ni multilayer energy-containing microdevice and predicted the ignition voltage threshold for the specific device structure. Al/Ni multilayer energy-containing microdevices with different V-angles were prepared by electron beam evaporation technology, and ignition experiments on the prepared devices under the excitation of 47 μF capacitance were conducted. The experimental results show that the critical voltage of ignition increases with the increase in the V-angle, which verifies the correctness of the proposed finite element model. This paper is on the motion of a neutrally buoyant but circular slip particle in a clockwise double-lid-driven square cavity. The slip flow at the particle surface is implemented by the lattice Boltzmann method with corrected slip boundary schemes. The effects of slip length (Ls), initial particle position, Reynolds number (Re), and particle size (D) are studied on the migration of the slip particle. The motion of the circular slip particle is dominated by the centrifugal and boundary-repulsion forces. The results show that the cavity center is the unique fixed point, and once the slip particle initially deviates from the cavity center, it is always stabilized at the same limit cycle. With the increase in slip length, the limit cycle of the circular slip particle is closer to the cavity boundaries, which brings a stronger centrifugal force to balance the increased boundary-confinement effect. As the slip length, Ls, exceeds 0.02D, the limit cycle forms more quickly than the circular no-slip particle. When Re increases to within 1000, the limit cycle is squashed along the leading diagonal of the cavity and pushed toward the boundaries; however, when Re increases beyond 1000, two developing secondary vortices confine the limit cycle to shrink toward the cavity center. With the increase in particle size, the enhanced boundary confinements lead to the shrinkage of the limit cycle toward the cavity center. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, polarization-stable and spectrally single-mode operation of oxide-confined multi-junction vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are achieved by using a non-circular integrated anti-phase transverse mode filter. A record-high single-mode output power is obtained by radially reducing effective mirror reflectivity at the surface areas where the higher order modes are expected to lase, leading to an increase in the threshold gain for these transverse modes, all the while minimal losses are introduced to the fundamental mode. The polarization control of such devices is achieved by using a non-circular mode filter in order to perturb the cylindrical symmetry of the cavity. An elliptically etched surface relief is shown to be effective in realizing a single-mode single-polarization device over a wide range of operating bias currents and temperatures. The continuous-wave light–current–voltage characteristics of 8-junction 940 nm VCSELs show single-mode output power >13 mW at room temperature, spectrally measured with a side-mode suppression ratio of >30 dB. This single-mode performance can be achieved depending on the ratio between the relief opening and the oxide aperture size. Additionally, the single-polarization behavior of such devices (with an extinction ratio of >15 dB) is shown to be dependent on the orientation of the elliptical mode filter, where the light is mainly polarized along the minor axis of the elliptical feature. Overall, combined with a multi-junction active region, the elliptical model filter is able to achieve highly efficient single-mode linearly polarized VCSELs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
