The reaction of [Mo(CN)8]3− with Dy3+ in DMF solvent leads to a new binuclear complex, [Mo(CN)8Dy(DMF)4(H2O)3]·H2O (1) (DMF = N,N′-dimethylformamide). Magnetic measurements confirm that 1 presents probably a ferromagnetic interaction between the binuclear complexes.

A novel cyano-bridged Mn 2 III Cr III complex {Cr(CN) 4 [CNMn(salen)(MeOH)] 2 }{[Mn(salen)(CH 3 OH)(H 2 O)] 2 }[Mn(salen)(MeOH)] 2 [Cr(CN) 6 ] · 6CH 3 OH ( 1) (salen = N , N ′-ethylene-bis-salicylideneaminato) has been synthesized and structurally characterized. X-ray structure analysis reveals that in 1 , except for the trinuclear Mn 2 III Cr III unit, there exist two mononuclear Mn III and one dimeric Mn III Schiff-base units. All these structural units are linked by hydrogen bond into a 3D network. The magnetic characterization shows that compound 1 displays a weak ferromagnetic behavior.

Two novel 3d-4f polymers [La(H2O)(4)][M(2)TTHA(SCN)(2)]center dot H3O+ (M = Ni(1), Cu(2), H-6 TTHA = triethylenetetraaminehexaacetic acid) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, elemental analysis, IR and magnetic properties. Two lanthanide coordination polymers, [{Ln 2 (bpdc) 3 (phen) 2 (H 2 O) 2 } · (H 2 O) 6 ] n (Ln = Dy ( 1 ); Ho ( 2 )) were obtained from 2,2′-bipyridine-3,3′-dicarboxylic acid (H 2 bpdc), 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and corresponding lanthanide oxides by hydrothermal synthesis. Polymers 1 – 2 are found to be isostructural. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction shows that 1–2 are all one-dimensional zigzag chain structures and extend to two-dimensional networks through π–π interactions and hydrogen bonds. Thermogravimetric analysis of 1 – 2 displays a considerable thermal stability. The variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility of both compounds was measured. Photoluminescence measurement indicates that 1 is a strong yellow emitter.

A novel complex, [Gd(hfac)3(NIT-5-Br-3py)]2 (hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonat, NIT-5-Br-3py = 2-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-3-oxylimidazoline-1-oxide)-5-bromo-3-pyridine) has been synthesized and characterized structurally and magnetically, in which a NIT-5-Br-3py molecular acts as a bridge ligand linking two Gd(III) ions through the oxygen atom of the N–O group and nitrogen atom from the pyridine ring to form a four-spin system. The fitting result of the magnetic susceptibility shows two different magnetic interactions between Gd(III) ion and NIT-5-Br-3py in one complex: a weak ferromagnetic interaction (J1 = +2.60 cm−1) through the N–O group, and a much weaker antiferromagnetic (J2 = −0.24 cm−1) interaction through pyridine ring.

The first complex [Mn(H2O)6][NiCo(TTHA)(H2O)2] · 4H2O 1 (TTHA6− = triethylenetetraminehexaacetate) containing MnII–CoII–NiII three different 3d metal ions is synthesized and magnetic measurement suggests that ferromagnetic interactions occur between Ni2+ ions and rarely found low-spin Co2+ ions.

A novel nickel macrocyclic complex {[Ni 2 (cyclam) 2 ( μ 3 -C 2 O 4 )]} n · (ClO 4 ) 2 · H 2 O has been synthesized and structural characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex forms a chain-like one-dimensional structure linked through a novel μ 3 -oxalato-bridging mode, which has never been reported for nickel. The complex adopts both trans -III configuration with the R , R , S , S arrangement of the four chiral nitrogen centers and cis -V conformation with the R , R , R , R nitrogen configuration. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility studies indicate the existence of weak antiferromagnetic ( zj = −1.07 cm −1 ) coupling.

A new manganese polymer Mn3(ptc)2(H2O)4 (1) (H3ptc = Pyridine-2,4,6-tricarboxylic acid) has been solvothermally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal diffraction, IR, TGA and elemental analysis. Compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P 1 ¯ and shows a fairly complicated structure, which should be attributed to the high connectivity of H3ptc ligand. Meanwhile, we defined a novel trinodal (42 · 84)(43 · 63)2(46 · 63 · 86)2 topology net, two types of Mn(II) ions in different chemical environment and ptc3− anion act as four-connected, four-connected and six-connected node, respectively. The magnetic measurement in the temperature range of 2–300 K displays weak antiferromagnetic coupling interaction between the Mn(II) ions.
