This paper considers the downlink of a cognitive radio (CR) network formed by multiple primary and secondary transmitters, where each multiantenna transmitter serves a preknown set of single-antenna users. This paper assumes that the secondary and primary transmitters can simultaneously transmit their data over the same frequency bands to achieve high system spectrum efficiency. This paper considers the downlink balancing problem of maximizing the minimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the secondary transmitters subject to both the total power constraint of the secondary transmitters and the maximum interference constraint at each primary user due to secondary transmissions. This paper proposes solving the problem using the alternating direction method of multipliers, which leads to a distributed implementation through limited information exchange across the coupled secondary transmitters. This paper additionally proposes a solution that guarantees feasibility at each iteration. This paper presents a modified orthogonal propagator method (OPM) with spline interpolation for direction of arrival (DoA) estimation. The conventional OPM is based on the noise-free signal model. When noise exists, the main contribution of noise (additive temporally and spatially white Gaussian noise) is in the diagonal elements of the data covariance matrix. Therefore, the influence of noise can be minimized by restoring the noise free diagonal elements through an interpolation procedure and the propagator can then be directly extracted from the denoised data covariance matrix, which is the main idea of the proposed method in this paper. The performance of the proposed modified OPM is tested through numerical simulations. In concurrent spectrum sharing scenarios between radars and wireless communication systems, one strict approach to protect the radar from undesired interference is locating the base stations outside a guard (or exclusion) zone of the radar. As a result, users inside that zone experience bad communication coverage. This paper uses Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) to improve the base station coverage of users in the radar exclusion zone. The paper shows, through analysis and simulation, that joint optimization of base station and RIS locations improves the probability of coverage in the exclusion zone over the shared spectrum without disturbing the radar operation. As more and more people choose high-speed rail (HSR) as a means of transportation for short trips, there is ever growing demand of high quality of multimedia services. With its rich spectrum resources, millimeter wave (mm-wave) communications can satisfy the high network capacity requirements for HSR. Also, it is possible for receivers (RXs) to be equipped with antenna arrays in mm-wave communication systems due to its short wavelength. However, as HSRs run with high speed, the received signal power (RSP) varies rapidly over a cell and it is the lowest at the edge of the cell compared to other locations. Consequently, it is necessary to conduct research on RX beamforming for HSR in mm-wave band to improve the quality of the received signal. In this paper, we focus on RX beamforming for a mm-wave train-ground communication system. To improve the RSP, we propose an effective RX beamforming scheme based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL), and develop a deep Q-network (DQN) algorithm to train and determine the optimal RX beam direction with the purpose of maximizing average RSP. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme has better performance than the four baseline schemes in terms of average RSP at most positions on the railway. The performance of the recently proposed orientational beamforming (OBF) system for ultra-wideband (UWB) signals degrades seriously in multiuser situation. Although various techniques have been proposed in the literature to suppress multiuser interference in the time-hopping UWB system, there has been no research on interference suppression in the OBF UWB system. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear OBF system via a modified radial basis function (RBF) neural network, named the RBF-OBF system, to reject orientational UWB interferences caused by multiuser transmission in the OBF system. The RBF neural network is selected mainly because of its simple structure, convenient training process, and fast convergence speed. However, the conventional Euclidean-distance-based RBF neural network is not suitable for the training process used in this work, as the training samples are noiseless orientational steering vectors in frequency domain. Therefore, a modified RBF neural network is proposed in this paper, which evaluates the similarity between an input vector and the center vector of a hidden layer neuron by their signed complex correlation coefficient. Numerous simulations demonstrate that compared to the conventional OBF system, the proposed RBF-OBF system can significantly reduce the bit error rates (BERs) under different noise and interference situations. Millimeter wave (mmWave) frequency spectrum offers orders of magnitude greater spectrum to mitigate the severe spectrum shortage in conventional cellular bands. To overcome the high propagation loss in the mmWave band, massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) can be adopted at both transmitter and receiver to provide large beamforming gains. At the same time, hybrid architecture is applied to reduce the huge power consumption caused by devices operating at radio frequency (RF). However, because of the hybrid architecture and large number of antennas, it is hard to obtain the channel state information (CSI) which is crucial for obtaining desirable beamforming gains. Off-grid error and sparsity pattern (SP) estimation error are two main limiting factors of the performance of most existing compressive sensing (CS) based channel estimation (CE) algorithms. Off-grid error presents when the true angle does not lie on the discretized angle grid of mmWave channel in the spatial domain. In this paper, we first propose a fast Bayesian matching pursuit method with ‘virtual sparsity’ to improve the accuracy of SP estimation and name it as the improved Bayesian matching pursuit (IBMP). Then an enhanced algorithm, named off-grid IBMP (OG-IBMP), is developed to mitigate the off-grid problem, followed by a theoretical analysis of OG-IBMP. This method iteratively updates the selected grid points and updates the corresponding parameters based on the maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion. Numerical simulations are performed to validate our theoretical analysis and evaluate the performance of the proposed method. Compared to other existing methods, the results show that our proposed OG-IBMP algorithm greatly reduces the off-grid error and significantly enhances the accuracy of the SP estimation with low computational complexity. Recently, research on the design of relay structure and optimal precoding matrix in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay systems has been proposed in many works assuming that partial or all of the channel state information (CSI) is known. However, in the practical communication systems, the CSI is unknown and needs to be estimated. In particular, channel estimation is more difficult when the relay adopts a hybrid precoding structure. In this paper, we propose an efficient channel estimation scheme based on Tucker-2 tensor model for a multi-way massive MIMO hybrid relay system. The proposed algorithm provides all the CSI involved in the communication links at each user end. Compared with traditional channel estimation algorithms, the proposed algorithm has better estimation performance and requires few iterations to achieve convergence. In addition, we derive the analytical expression of the Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRB) for reference. This study is motivated by the fact that localization in millimeter wave(mmWave) Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication becomes a more critical problem because both the terminals of the communication link are in motion. The positional awareness merely based on GPS or local sensors has an error margin of around 10 meters, which can worsen in uncertain real-time conditions such as road topology and highway traffic. The paper analyses the relation between vehicle dynamics, beamforming, and beam alignment for highly directive antennas. When the subsystem models presented in this paper are taken into consideration, the joint vehicle dynamics-beamforming approach will optimize the link connectivity and SNR. The vehicle dynamics model is designed to be more realistic considering the non-linear acceleration based on the throttle-brake jerks due to induced noises. The Unscented Kalman Filter based prediction subsystem predicts the alignment values even during non-linear acceleration and jerks. Resource allocation in mmWave small cell is a key issue of the fifth generation (5G) systems. To solve this problem, we first present a hybrid beamforming structure for base station of small cell, which consists of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), identity matrix and switched-beam. Next, we formulate the joint allocation of the beam and transmitted power on the sub-carriers into a mixed integer non-linear programming problem (MINLP). Due to the non-convexity of this problem, we decompose it into two subproblems which are the beam selection and the power allocation. For the beam selection, we propose an algorithm based on cooperative games. For the power allocation, we present an optimal and sub-optimal solution based on Lagrange duality and non-cooperative games respectively. Simulation results show that the beam allocation algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively improve the sum rate of the system, and the optimal power allocation solution is far superior to the sub-optimal one in sum rate. This paper studies the electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna as a solution for beam pattern switching to implement blind interference alignment (BIA). The ESPAR antenna uses a single radio-frequency (RF) chain, and its beamforming is achieved by simply tuning the reactance loads of parasitic elements. Furthermore, ESPAR's beam pattern can be designed to enhance the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), thereby improving the performance of BIA. The focus of this work is the design of the ESPAR beam pattern to realize and improve BIA. In the first approach, each receiver ESPAR antenna dynamically selects the proper beam patterns from among the sector beam patterns, which are pre-designed to access different angular sectors with constant optimal antenna efficiency. We also propose a singular value decomposition (SVD) beamforming method, by means of the available channel state information at the receiver and a dynamic matching network for a high antenna efficiency. Mobile edge computing (MEC) has been recognized as a viable technology to satisfy low-delay computation requirements for resource-constrained Internet of things (IoT) devices. Nevertheless, the broadcast feature of wireless electromagnetic communications may lead to the security threats to IoT devices. In order to enhance the task offloading security, this paper proposes a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted secure MEC network framework. Furthermore, we investigate the max-min computation efficiency problem under the secure computation rate requirements, by jointly optimizing the local computing frequencies and transmission power of IoT devices, time-slot assignment, and phase beamforming of the RIS. To solve the formulated non-convex problem, we further develop an iterative algorithm, in which the Dinkelbach-type method and block coordinate descent (BCD) technique are utilized to tackle the fractional objective function and coupled optimization variables, respectively. In particular, the successive convex approximation (SCA) and penalty function-based methods are exploited to solve the transmit power control and reflecting beamforming optimization subproblems, respectively, and the closed-form expression for local computing frequencies optimization subproblem is derived. Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmission can effectively improve the energy/spectrum efficiency in wireless networks. This paper designs a low-complexity scheme to achieve the balanced tradeoff between the sum-rate and power consumption in a RIS-assisted NOMA system, which can be measured by energy efficiency. To solve the formulated problem effectively, the original non-convex problem is first decomposed into two subproblems, i.e., beamforming optimization and phase shift optimization. Alternating optimization is proposed to solve these two subproblems iteratively. In particular, successive convex approximation (SCA) is utilized to convert the non-convex constraints to convex ones. Security is a crucial feature of current (5G) and even more for future (6G) communication networks. While the innate nature of the wireless channel is an issue for guaranteeing security, its physical characteristics can be exploited for protecting confidential data. Physical-layer Security (PLS) mechanisms take advantage of unique features of the transmission media or of the user equipment to introduce an additional level of data protection. The physical-layer security (PLS) can be seen as the first level of defense. The noise-loop (NL) modulation is a PLS technique that intrinsically provides confidentiality. In this paper, we first provide the theoretical analysis to evaluate the reliability and security in multipath fading channels, and then the theoretical results are evaluated by experimentation. A Software Defined Radio (SDR) testbed that exploits the NL secure modulation was implemented and a measurement campaign has been carried out in an indoor environment, with passive and active malicious nodes. An evaluation of the complexity of the proposed system is also reported, showing that the NL has low hardware resource occupancy and low computational cost. As the number of antennas increases, the massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system can precisely point to user equipments (UEs) with narrow beams. Accurate and timely channel state information (CSI) feedback is crucial to keep UEs in service. Mobile UEs, however, may suffer from the narrow beam nature of the massive MIMO system since UEs can move out of the beam coverage. When intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is applied to the massive MIMO system, the adjustment of the IRS cannot be frequent as the IRS is controlled remotely by the base station (BS). Limiting the number of CSI feedback and the number of both BS and IRS adjustments significantly reduces the overhead of transmission and computation to the system. In this paper, we consider the UEs’ mobility adaptation problem in an IRS assisted multiuser massive MIMO downlink system with infrequent CSI feedback. We propose a beam control method that adapts to UEs’ mobility. The problem is constructed as a sum rate problem where both the BS and IRS are taken into account to jointly optimize the beamforming matrices. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can converge quickly and provide satisfactory performance for mobile UEs. At millimeter-wave (mm-wave) frequencies, narrow beamwidth and inaccurate channel estimation result in beam alignment errors, which degrade the achievable signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and rate. The extent of beam misalignment depends on the various link parameters, however, prior works ignored such a dependence and considered oversimplified array patterns. This paper formulates beam alignment errors for the uniform linear array at the base station as a function of the link parameters by using the Cramér Rao lower bound of angle-of-arrival estimates and proposes a tractable array pattern approximation to better reflect the effects of such alignment errors. Utilizing stochastic geometry and the statistics of the Student’s t-distribution, a novel and robust analytical technique is developed to obtain the downlink SNR and rate coverage probabilities due to beam misalignment, assuming a single antenna at the user. We show that beam alignment errors significantly affect the achievable SNR and rate for non line-of-sight (NLOS)/distant users whereas the effect is negligible for LOS/nearby users. It is also illustrated that the effects of alignment errors cannot be mitigated only by increasing the number of antennas. In this paper, we consider a cloud radio access networks (C-RANs) in which base stations (BSs) are uniformly distributed inside a disk. The outage probability and the ergodic rate achieved by these C-RANs are analyzed, where stochastic geometry is used to capture the randomness of BS locations. Compared with existing studies to C-RANs, more accurate analytical results are developed by applying the Gauss–Chebyshev integration, as confirmed by our simulation results. This paper analyzes the performance of a clustered small cell network, where the base stations (BSs) are equipped with multiple antennas and the network topology is modeled as Matern cluster process (MCP). For such a clustered multi-antenna network, serious intra-cluster interference is a main bottleneck of the system performance. Utilizing the intra-cluster coordinated beamforming scheme is an effective approach for the intra-cluster interference cancellation. From this, we firstly derive an approximate expression for the users’ average data rate based on stochastic geometry, and then we discuss the optimal number of the maximum degrees of freedom (DoF) used for coordinated beamforming at the BS, which maximize the average data rate. Simulation results confirm the accuracy of our derivations and also present the performance with the intra-cluster interference cancellation is much better than that with no intra-cluster interference cancellation. In this paper, we study the multiuser detection in a millimeter-wave (mm-wave) wireless communication system using hybrid beamformers, where uplink transmissions are considered under limited scattering. For a base station, with the condition that the number of radio-frequency (RF) chains is relatively smaller than that of users, we consider opportunistic beamforming with analog beams for multiple-signal detection and derive a closed form expression for system sum rate. By applying the minimum mean square error (MMSE)-filter with the proposed opportunistic hybrid beamforming algorithm, the system performance can be further improved. Through simulation results, it is shown that the proposed MMSE-based multiuser detection approaches are attractive for hybrid mm-wave systems to support a large number of users with a small number of RF chains. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) spatial multiplexing and beamforming are regarded as key technology enablers for the fifth-generation (5G) millimeter wave (mmWave) mobile radio services. Spatial multiplexing requires sufficiently separated and incoherent antenna array elements, while in the case of beamforming, the antenna array elements need to be coherent and closely spaced. Extensive 28-, 60-, and 73-GHz ultra-wideband propagation measurements in cities of New York City and Austin have indicated formation of two or more spatial lobes for the angles-of-departure and angles-of-arrival even for line-of-sight (LOS) transmission, which is an advantageous feature of mmWave channels, indicating that the transmitting and receiving array antenna elements can be co-located, thus enabling a single architecture for both spatial multiplexing and beamforming. In this paper, a two-level beamforming architecture for uniform linear arrays is proposed that leverages the formation of these spatial lobes. The antenna array is composed of sub-arrays, and the impact of sub-array spacing on the spectral efficiency is investigated through simulations using a channel simulator named NYUSIM developed based on extensive measured data at mmWave frequencies. Simulation results indicate spectral efficiencies of 18.5–28.1 bits/s/Hz with a sub-array spacing of 16 wavelengths for an outdoor mmWave urban LOS channel. The spectral efficiencies obtained are for single-user (SU) MIMO transmission at the recently allocated 5G carrier frequencies in July 2016. A zero forcing (ZF) assisted single layer beamforming is developed for spatial modulation (SM) and space shift keying (SSK) modulation multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems, termed as SZF-SM/SZF-SSK, to achieve both transmit beamforming and receive diversity gain in this paper. Specifically, the proposed SZF-SM/SZF-SSK maps part of the bits to spatial domain, simultaneously forming a ZF precoding assisted single layer data both in multiple input single output (MISO) and MIMO systems, that differs greatly from conventional ZF beamforming assisted MIMO systems. With MISO configuration, the ZF precoder of SZF-SM/SZF-SSK converges to the maximum ratio transmission (MRT), achieving only the transmit beamforming gain. With MIMO configuration, SZF-SM/SZF-SSK tranceiver could be further modified along with the MIMO channel to achieve single layer transmission and joint detection, attaining both the transmit beamforming and receive diversity gain in SM-MIMO system. The theoretical analysis and the simulation results of the proposed SZF-SM/SZF-SSK with MISO and MIMO configurations are presented in this paper respectively, which show an attractive performance gain over the conventional SM/SSK. Compared with the conventional ZF beamforming assisted MIMO systems and some other CSI assisted SM-MIMO schemes, the proposed scheme exhibits better performance, especially under highly correlated MIMO channels, rendering a new and practical way to achieve low rank MIMO transmission with good performance and high data rate. In this paper, we present unified performance analysis framework of distributed transmit beamforming (DTB) with residual phase errors which arise from various sources such as imperfect synchronization and channel feedback quantization. More specifically, we derive statistics of the receive signal-to-noise ratio of DTB in Rayleigh and Rician fading channels in the presence of residual phase errors. In the case of residual phase errors caused by channel feedback quantization, we show that the distribution of residual phase errors can be modeled by uniform distribution in Rayleigh fading channels and Gaussian distribution in Rician fading channels. Also, our results reveal that a small number of bits are sufficient for quantized feedback to achieve comparable performance to DTB with perfect channel feedback. This paper addresses energy-efficient power control for time-division-duplexing (TDD) multiple-input–single-output (MISO) systems. Assuming ideal channel reciprocity, the beamforming at the transmitter (TX) is based on the estimated channel state information (CSI) obtained from the pilot signal of the receiver (RX). We define the energy efficiencies of the TX and the RX separately and study their energy efficiency region. In addition, we seek a power control scheme that can achieve all the points on the Pareto boundary of the energy efficiency region. We propose to maximize the weighted system energy efficiency, which is the data rate divided by the weighted sum of the power consumption at the TX and the RX. A method based on the quasi-concavity of the weighted system energy efficiency is developed to solve the problem. Millimeter-wave (mmWave) cellular systems are power limited and susceptible to blockages. One promising approach to increasing mmWave connectivity and range is to use relays. Device-to-device (D2D) communications open the door to the vast opportunities of D2D relaying for mmWave cellular systems. In this paper, we study how to select a good relay for a given source–destination pair in a two-hop mmWave cellular system, where the mmWave links are subject to random Bernoulli blockages. In such a system, probing more relays could potentially lead to the discovery of a better relay but at the cost of more overhead. We find that the throughput-optimal relay probing strategy is a pure threshold policy: The system can stop relay probing once the achievable spectral efficiency of the currently probed two-hop link exceeds an optimized threshold. The combination of wireless energy transfer (WET) and mobile edge computing (MEC) has been proposed to satisfy the energy supply and computation requirements of resource-constrained Internet of Things (IoT) devices. However, the energy transfer efficiency and task offloading rate cannot be guaranteed when wireless links between the hybrid access point (HAP) and IoT devices are hostile. To address this problem, this paper aims at utilizing the intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS) technique to improve the efficiency of WET and task offloading. In particular, we investigate the total computation bits maximization problem for IRS-enhanced wireless powered MEC networks, by jointly optimizing the downlink/uplink phase beamforming of IRS, transmission power and time slot assignment used for WET and task offloading, and local computing frequencies of IoT devices. Furthermore, an iterative algorithm is presented to solve the non-convex non-linear optimization problem, while the optimal transmission power and time allocation, uplink phase beamforming matrixes and local computing frequencies are derived in closed-form expressions. Finally, extensive simulation results validate that our proposed IRS-enhanced wireless powered MEC strategy can achieve higher total computation rate as compared to existing baseline schemes. This paper investigates distributed beamforming networks composed of multiple groups of transmitters where each group consists of two transmitters. The goal is to jointly optimize the phase components at the transmitters and the orientation angles of the groups that maximize the radiated energy over an angular sector containing an adversary while placing a null towards the client in order not to obfuscate the client. Since the optimization problem is non-convex, it is intractable to obtain the optimal solution in closed-form. To this end, we propose a non-iterative closed-form solution by adopting a group-wise nullforming approach where each group independently creates a null to the client. In this paper, we investigate hybrid beamforming, user scheduling, and resource allocation optimization based on spectrum coexisting forward transmission in integrated terrestrial-satellite network (ITSN) with the purpose of improving system sum rate and energy efficiency. Considering the limitation of on-board beamforming, a hybrid analog-digital beamforming scheme is designed under the scenario of millimeter wave (mmWave) coexisting in the ITSN framework. Besides, in order to further mitigate intra-beam and inter-beam interference, we propose an adaptive user scheduling scheme, which first determines the cluster center based on adaptive threshold, and then selects users with less channel correlation into a scheduling cluster. Moreover, we model system sum rate maximization problem that incorporates maximum power constrains and minimum data rate requirements. Combined with the aforementioned hybrid beamforming and user scheduling strategy, we formulate the sum rate maximizing problem to a pure power allocation issue. In view of the non-convexity and high complexity, we propose a feasible optimization method based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion and logarithmic linearization to optimize the power allocation for each user terminal (UT). Simulation results show that our proposed joint beamforming and resource allocation optimization scheduling scheme can achieve an attractive gain in system sum rate and energy efficiency compared with conservative beamforming and allocations. This paper considers optimal joint time, frequency, and power allocation for energy-efficient device-to-device (D2D) communications in an overlay cellular network, where multiple D2D transmitters communicate with their corresponding D2D receivers while utilizing the energy harvested from a cellular base station (BS). Due to channel estimation error and feedback delays, the channel state information (CSI) available at the transmitters is usually imperfect, which can significantly deteriorate the energy efficiency (EE) of the considered system. To mitigate the impact of imperfect CSI, we formulate a non-convex robust optimization problem for the maximization of the EE (in bits/Joule) of the system while ensuring quality of service (QoS) requirements on the minimum data rata and the minimum amount of harvested energy for cellular and D2D users, respectively. We reveal that the optimal energy-efficient D2D transmission should exhaust all the harvested energy of each D2D transmitter. Exploiting this fact, we propose an efficient iterative algorithm for obtaining the optimal solution. To strike a balance between performance and computational complexity, we further propose a low-complexity suboptimal algorithm. Simulation results show that compared with several baseline schemes, both the proposed optimal and suboptimal algorithms can significantly improve the EE of wireless-powered D2D communications under imperfect CSI. The combination of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is an efficient solution to significantly enhance the energy efficiency of the wireless communication system. In this paper, a downlink multi-cluster NOMA network is considered, where each cluster is supported by one IRS. This paper aims to minimize the transmit power by jointly optimizing the beamforming, the power allocation and the phase shift of each IRS. The formulated problem is non-convex and challenging to be solved due to the coupled variables, i.e., the beamforming vector, the power allocation coefficient and the phase shift matrix. To address this non-convex problem, an alternating optimization based algorithm is proposed. Specifically, the primal problem is divided into two subproblems for beamforming optimization and phase shifting feasiblity, where the two subproblems are solved iteratively. Moreover, to guarantee the feasibility of the beamforming optimization problem, an iterative algorithm is proposed to search the feasible initial points. To reduce the complexity, a simplified algorithm based on partial exhaustive search for this system model is also proposed. In this paper, we study the joint cooperative beamforming and user association scheme for multi-cell multi-user full-dimension massive multiple-input multiple-out (MIMO) networks, where each user equipment is dynamically associated with one of the base stations. We propose to maximize the network capacity by jointly optimizing the beamforming vectors and a binary vector that represents the user association decisions. The binary vectors are further transformed into binary beam association factors (BAFs) as indicators of both the beamforming and the user association decisions. A three-step Gaussian belief propagation (GaBP) based distributed solver is proposed to solve the non-convex NP-hard problem considered in this paper. By relaxing the binary BAFs, we first transform the optimization problem into a linear programming. Subsequently, GaBP is used to efficiently obtain a feasible solution on BAFs in parallel, and two mapping algorithms are proposed to achieve different performance-complexity tradeoffs. Simulation results show that the proposed cooperative beamforming methods significantly outperform the benchmarks in the literature in terms of the network capacity with a low computation complexity. In this paper, secure primary transmission is proposed by using a multi-antenna secondary full-duplex non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) relay in cognitive radio (CR) networks. First, the primary signal is transmitted from the primary transmitter to the relay. Artificial noise is generated by using part of the antennas at the relay to disrupt eavesdropping, without affecting the primary transmission. Then, superimposed signals are transmitted from the relay to the primary receiver and secondary receivers via NOMA. The primary security is guaranteed by the modified decoding order and beamforming optimization, which is converted to convex and solved by an iterative algorithm. This paper proposes a robust beamforming (BF) scheme to enhance the physical layer security (PLS) of a multibeam satellite system operating at Ka band. By considering the effects of beam gain, path loss, and rain attenuation, we first formulate a constrained optimization problem to maximize the minimal achievable secrecy rate of multiuser under the assumption of imperfect eavesdropping channel and the constraint of total transmit power on the satellite. Since the problem is non-convex and mathematically intractable, we exploit the sequential convex approximation approach and S-procedure method to transform the original problem into one with a series of linear matrix inequality and second-order cone constraints, and then propose an iterative scheme to obtain the optimal BF weight vectors. This correspondence paper considers a multiple-input single-output non-orthogonal multiple access (MISO-NOMA) system that spatially multiplexes NOMA signals formed by superimposing two user symbols in the power domain. We aim to design practical beamforming (BF), power allocation (PA), and user clustering methods for the system by minimizing the transmit power under the rate constraints. The two-step BF and conditionally optimal PA are devised in closed-form expressions that facilitate user clustering based on message passing and effective channel correlation. In this paper, a low complexity channel estimation method is proposed for two-dimensional (2-D) massive MIMO systems with uniform rectangular arrays of antennas. Instead of assuming independent fading between different transmit–receive antenna pairs, an array-structure-based physical channel model that characterizes the realistic scattering environments via the angles and gains associated with different propagation paths is studied. A 2-D Fourier-transform (FT) based on elevation and azimuth steering factors is applied to derive the spatial spectrum of received signals in angular domain at base station. Based on the spectrum analysis, the spatial spectrum of the received data is used to estimate the channel parameters, including direction of arrival (incident azimuth and elevation angles) and the path amplitude of each resolvable path. Since the channel coefficients are estimated in spatial domain and the proposed 2-D FT can be realized by fast-Fourier-transform, the computational complexity is reduced significantly. Beamforming has a great potential for joint communication and radar sensing (JCAS), which is becoming a demanding feature on many emerging platforms, such as unmanned aerial vehicles and smart cars. Although beamforming has been extensively studied for communication and radar sensing respectively, its application in the joint system is not straightforward due to different beamforming requirements by communication and sensing. In this paper, we propose a novel multibeam framework using steerable analog antenna arrays, which allows seamless integration of communication and sensing. Different to conventional JCAS schemes that support JCAS using a single beam, our framework is based on the key innovation of multibeam technology: providing fixed subbeam for communication and packet-varying scanning subbeam for sensing, simultaneously from a single transmitting array. We provide a system architecture and protocols for the proposed framework, complying well with modern packet communication systems with multicarrier modulation. We also propose low-complexity and effective multibeam design and generation methods, which offer great flexibility in meeting different communication and sensing requirements. We further develop sensing parameter estimation algorithms using conventional digital Fourier transform and one-dimensional compressive sensing techniques, matching well with the multibeam framework. To promote the massive video content delivery and to realize the long-term overall cost, the caching and computing functions have to be installed at some intermediate nodes within the networks. This paper presents a cache-aware multicast beamforming design for multicell multigroup multicast, where information-centric networking and mobile edge computing techniques are brought in the multicell multicast system to cache and transcode the contents passing through the nodes. The proposed cache-aware multicast beamforming design jointly optimizes the multicast mode, the caching strategy, and the network-wide beamforming vector, and focuses on minimizing the energy cost of the caching, computing, and communications. To make the formulated problem tractable, a two step method is proposed in this paper, where the first step is devoted to the cache-aware multicast approach design, while the second step is focused on the sparse multicast beamforming design. Furthermore, in order to promote the stabilization of the system, we further design a robust joint optimization strategy for the scenario with the imperfect channel state information. The wireless-powered communication paradigm brings self-sustainability to the on-vehicle sensors by harvesting the energy from radiated radio frequency (RF) signals. This paper proposes a novel transmission and resource allocation strategy for the scenario where multiple wireless powered vehicle area networks (VAN) co-existed with high density. The considered multi-VAN system consists of a remote master access point (MAP), multiple on-vehicle hybrid access points (HAPs) and sensors. Unlike previous works, we consider that the sensors can recycle the radiated radio frequency energy from all the HAPs when HAPs communicate with MAP, so the dedicated signals for energy harvesting (EH) are unnecessary. The proposed strategy can achieve simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) without complex receiver architecture requirements. The extra EH and interference caused by the dense distribution of VANs, which are rarely explored, are fully considered. To maximize the sum throughput of all the sensors while guaranteeing the transmission from HAPs to the MAP, we jointly optimize the time allocation, system energy consumption, power allocation, and receive beamforming. Due to the non-convexity of the formulated problem, we address the sub-problems separately through the Rayleigh quotient, Frobenius norm minimization and convex optimization. This paper considers the downlink of an ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) system in which a base station (BS) serves multiple single-antenna users in the short (finite) blocklength (FBL) regime with the assistance of a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). In the FBL regime, the users' achievable rates are complex functions of the beamforming vectors and of the RIS's programmable reflecting elements (PREs). We propose the joint design of the transmit beamformers and PREs to maximize the geometric mean (GM) of these rates (GM-rate) and show that this approach provides fair rate distribution and thus reliable links to all users. The application of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to multi-layer multicast video streaming is envisioned to address the explosively growing demand for capacity which is dominated mostly by multimedia content. In this paper, a joint power allocation and subgrouping scheme is developed to enhance the performance of NOMA-based multi-layer multicast systems. An optimization problem is formulated to maximize the overall sum multicast rate whilst satisfying the maximum transmission power and proportional rate constraints. Due to the complexity of the optimization problem, we first derive two power allocation techniques for the 2-layer case considering arbitrary subgrouping which are based on the iterative implementation and closed-form analysis, respectively. We then generalize the low-complexity closed-form solution for the general multi-layer case. This scheme successively allocates power to each layer stream while assuring that the minimum target rate and proportionality are guaranteed, particularly for the transmission rate of the high-priority base layer stream. A sub-optimal joint power allocation and subgrouping scheme is also designed by incorporating the power allocation scheme into the proposed iterative subgrouping techniques. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the power allocation and subgrouping schemes in enhancing the sum multicast rate performance. In addition, the proposed power allocation scheme ensures substantially higher rates for the base layer stream, which is crucial in robust delivery of standard quality video to all users. In this paper, we investigate the performance of an intelligent omni-surface (IOS) assisted downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network with phase quantization errors and channel estimation errors, where the channels related to the IOS are spatially correlated. First, upper bounds on the average achievable rates of the two users are derived. Then, channel hardening is shown to occur in the proposed system, based on which we derive approximations of the average achievable rates of the two users. The analytical results illustrate that the proposed upper bound and approximation on the average achievable rates are asymptotically equivalent in the number of elements. Furthermore, it is proved that the asymptotic equivalence also holds for the average achievable rates with correlated and uncorrelated channels. Additionally, we extend the analysis by evaluating the average achievable rates for IOS assisted orthogonal multiple access (OMA) and IOS assisted multi-user NOMA scenarios. Simulation results corroborate the theoretical analysis and demonstrate that: i) low-precision elements with only two-bit phase adjustment can achieve the performance close to the ideal continuous phase shifting scheme; ii) The average achievable rates with correlated channels and uncorrelated channels are asymptotically equivalent in the number of elements; iii) IOS-assisted NOMA does not always perform better than OMA due to the reconfigurability of IOS in different time slots. This paper proposes a Hierarchical Rate Splitting (HRS)-based and Macro Base Station (MBS)-assisted cooperative content delivery scheme for Cache-enabled Cloud Radio Access Networks (C $^{2}$ -RANs). In this scheme, a user is served by a cluster of Small Base Stations (SBSs) that cache contents. If the user-requested content is missing in its cache, the SBS retrieves it from the central processor (backhaul link) and the MBS (wireless broadcast). We minimize the total delay of this system. We thus optimize user grouping, decoding order, RS variables, BS clustering, and beamforming subject to the transmit power and backhaul capacity constraints. This process formulates a non-convex problem, which we decouple into three subproblems. First, we must pair users to reduce intra-group interference. We thus develop a Low-Complexity User Pairing (LCUP) algorithm. Second, we optimize the decoding order to minimize the broadcast link delay. We, therefore, propose a Dynamic Delay-based Decoding Order Update (D $^{3}$ OU) algorithm. Third, we jointly design the RS variables, beamforming, and BS clustering. We use surrogate optimization via the Quadratic Transform (QT), Woodbury matrix identity, and Taylor expansion. We then recast this problem to a Two-Tier Alternating (TTA) problem, which we solve with closed-form (outer tier) and convex (inner tier) formulations. We integrate these algorithms to propose an overall algorithm. It achieves significant performance gains and a 3-fold reduction in time-complexity over the standard Semi-Definite Relaxation (SDR)-based algorithm and several benchmark schemes. Channel estimation is a challenging issue for millimeter wave (mmWave) and massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in the future sixth generation (6G) wireless systems, where the conventional estimation schemes may fail to track the fast varying channels, especially in high-speed mobile scenarios. In this paper, a novel tensor-based uplink channel estimation scheme is proposed for multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) systems over time-varying channels. In the proposed scheme, a low-overhead pilot transmission scheme is designed to track the varying channel. The received uplink signal at the base station (BS) is formulated as a third-order tensor which admits a CANDECOMP/PARAFAC (CP) model. The CP decomposition issue is then solved using blind matrix decomposition, in which the special structures of signals in the time dimension and the matrix subspace are utilized. By exploiting low-rank structure of the signal tensor, the channel parameters (angles of arrival/departure, path gains, and Doppler shifts) are estimated from the factor matrices. Moreover, the proposed scheme is theoretically analyzed and it is guaranteed with low pilot overhead. Simulation results verify that the proposed scheme can outperform the compressed sensing (CS) based scheme and the iteration-based scheme in terms of accuracy and stability. Massive MIMO is a promising air interface technology for 5G wireless communications. Such antenna systems offer capabilities to utilize channel correlations to create beams suitable for user specific transmissions. Most of the prior research is devoted to user-specific transmission in such systems, where a narrow beam is formed towards a user to improve its reception. Meanwhile, public-channel transmission to multiple users at once by means of broad beams has been understudied. In this paper, we introduce the concept of array-size invariant (ASI) beamforming, enabling generation of broad beams from very large antenna arrays where all elements are transmitting at maximum power. The ASI technique offers the possibility to achieve a perfectly flat array factor by exploiting the additional degree of freedom coming from the dual-polarization beamforming. The proposed technique is applicable to both uniform linear and rectangular arrays. The benefits of the method are shown by means of several numerical examples. In particular, the practical usefulness of the ASI beamforming, in terms of coverage and energy efficiency, is illustrated on an example of designing a cell-specific broad beam for public-channel transmission in a realistic network deployment. Mobile edge computing (MEC) and millimeter wave (mmWave) communications are capable of significantly reducing the network's delay and enhancing its capacity. In this paper we investigate a mmWave and device-to-device (D2D) assisted MEC system, in which user A carries out some computational tasks and shares the results with user B with the aid of a base station (BS). We assume partial offloading model and the task can be partitioned into two portions: the first part is computed locally at user A, while the second part is transmitted to the BS and computed by the MEC server. The computational results are then sent to user B through a D2D link and via the link from the BS to user B, respectively. To support computation offloading, both the users and the BS are equipped with multiple antennas and employ analog and digital (A/D) hybrid beamforming. Moreover, we propose a novel two-timescale joint hybrid beamforming and task allocation algorithm to reduce the system latency whilst cut down the required signaling overhead. Specifically, the high-dimensional analog beamforming matrices are updated in a frame-based manner based on the channel state information (CSI) samples, where each frame consists of a number of time slots, while the low-dimensional digital beamforming matrices and the offloading ratio are optimized more frequently relied on the low-dimensional effective channel matrices in each time slot. A stochastic successive convex approximation (SSCA) based algorithm is developed to design the long-term analog beamforming matrices. As for the short-term variables, the digital beamforming matrices are optimized relying on the innovative penalty-concave convex procedure (penalty-CCCP) for handling the mmWave non-linear transmit power constraint, and the offloading ratio can be obtained via the derived closed-form solution. In this paper, we study a novel reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) enabled symbiotic radio system, where a RIS is used to enhance the communication between the primary transmitter (PTx) and the primary receiver (PRx), and concurrently transmit its information (e.g., environmental monitoring information) to the PRx by varying the phase shifts. The objective is to cooperatively optimize the active transmit beamforming at the PTx and passive reflecting beamforming at the RIS to minimize the PTx's transmit power, subject to the signal-to-noise ratio constraints of primary and RIS transmissions. A new optimization problem is formulated where the RIS phase shifts are not only related to the channel state information (CSI), but also related to its message. First, we consider the perfect CSI setup to draw useful insights into the cooperative beamforming design between the PTx and RIS. Then, the worst-case robust beamforming design is carried out under the imperfect CSI setup. In particular, we take into account the imperfect successive interference cancellation at the PRx. In this paper, we address the problem of securing information transmission in very adverse environments, i.e., no eavesdropper channel state information (CSI) and imperfect legitimate channel CSI, by introducing a massive multiple-input–multiple-output (M-MIMO) relay. The relay is powered through wireless power transfer from the source, such that it can flexibly adjust its position according to the secrecy requirement. The benefits of a M-MIMO relay are fully exploited to enhance both power transfer efficiency and information transmission security. In particular, the challenging issues incurred by short interception distance and long transfer distance are well addressed simultaneously. The focus of this paper is on investigating the secrecy performance of two classical relaying protocols, namely amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF), and obtaining explicit expressions of secrecy outage capacity in terms of transmit power, channel condition, and antenna number. Current and future mobile network access technologies increasingly rely on multiantenna transmission techniques and on cell miniaturization to achieve orders-of-magnitude gains in capacity. In this paper, we propose and evaluate the idea of multiuser multiple-input–multiple-input-based (MU-MIMO) cell reassignments. Dense small-cell deployments make it possible to pair user equipment units (UEs), which were originally assigned to different cells, enabling multiuser MIMO (MU-MIMO) and resulting in performance improvements to both UEs. We discuss how such pairings can be accomplished, and we assess the potential gains in the resulting spectral efficiency and MU-MIMO usage. In this paper, we consider nonregenerative multipair two-way relaying systems, where a relay node supports $K$ pairs of two-way communications in the presence of imperfect channel state information (CSI). We employ a stochastic approach to model the channel uncertainties and study a robust beamforming design at the relay. It is shown that the proposed beamformer provides a reduction in the computational complexity, as well as good robustness against channel errors, compared with conventional designs. To reduce the estimation overhead at the users, we also suggest an efficient downlink training method to inform the users of the channel-dependent self-interference cancellation (SIC) parameters. With the training method, the additive noise may incur a malfunction of the SIC. To address this issue, we develop an intelligent selection criterion that decides whether the SIC should be adopted or not. We study multiuser detection for uplink transmissions using only analog beamformers in a millimeter-wave (mm-wave) communication system under a limited scattering environment in this paper. In particular, the successive interference cancelation (SIC)-based detection at a base station (BS) that is equipped with an antenna array is considered with the outputs of analog beamformers. We employ beam selection from a codebook of analog beams for low-complexity analog beamforming in the SIC-based detection and compressive sensing (CS)-based channel estimation that is suitable for the BS that only has analog beamformers. Through simulation results, we can see that the performance of the joint analog beam selection and SIC-based detection is comparable with the performance of the SIC-based detection (with ideal digital beamforming) at the cost of more antenna elements with lower complexity. Multicell coordinated beamforming (CB) can mitigate intercell interference (ICI). However, existing work on CB focuses on systems that maximize overall throughput. This paper considers CB for systems with multiple receive antennas and further extends the CB to multiuser and multistream transmission. We consider fairness and pay close attention to cell-edge users. CB that maximizes the harmonic sum of signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) can be derived into a low-complexity algorithm that favors cell-edge users. Two iterative algorithms are developed. From the simulation results, the proposed algorithms can provide a better fifth-percentile user throughput compared with the CB algorithms minimizing mean square error, maximizing uplink SINR, and maximizing weighted sum rate. Phase noise (PHN) and in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) imbalance are two major radio-frequency (RF) impairments in directconversion wireless transceivers. Beamforming and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) schemes have been adopted in broadband wireless standards due to their significant performance gains. In this paper, we analyze the impact of joint I/Q imbalance and PHN on beamforming OFDM direct-conversion transceivers. We derive an exact normalized-mean-square-error expression (NMSE) and examine several special and asymptotic cases to gain insights.
