Information about several papers discussed at the 13th International Symposium on Electromagnetic (EM) Launch Technology which was held on May 22-25, 2006 in Berlin, Germany is presented. The event was attended by 169 researchers and engineers from 15 countries. Featured keynote speakers include: Marilyn Freeman from Army's Office of the Secretary; Elizabeth D'Andrea, program manager for the Navy EM Railgun program; and Roger Nadeau from the Army Research, Development and Engineering Command.

Magnetoquasistatic models commonly feature nonlinear materials. In high-energy synchrotrons, dipole magnets with aperture fields approaching 2 T are required to keep the ionized beam on a circular track. At these field magnitudes, the ferromagnetic yoke material is heavily saturated, causing a significant deterioration of the aperture field quality. In order to quantify the field quality, 3-D nonlinear finite-element simulations are carried out. The approach is tested for the SIS100 magnet of the FAIR project at the GSI, Darmstadt, Germany.
