A 54 year old white male died three months after hospitalization for hematemesis and melena due to a duodenal ulcer and two months after the subsequent onset of progressive ascites and edema. At necropsy, lesions characteristic of "lymphomatoid granulomatosis" as delineated by Liebow et al. were found in the liver, retroperitoneal lymph nodes, and mesenteric and retroperitoneal adipose tissue. This case appears to be the first case of "lymphomatoid granulomatosis" confined to the abdomen. This report further broadens the clinical spectrum of the newly delineated "lymphomatoid granulomatosis" and adds another situation to the differential diagnosis of space occupying lesions of the liver.

The clinicopathologic features of a rare case of hepatic "inflammatory pseudotumor" are described and compared with those of three similar cases reported in the literature. In all four cases symptoms were systemic. The marked reduction in tumor size and the changing cellular composition, from a predominance of fibroblasts to a predominance of histiocytes, confirmed the reactive nature of the lesion in the present case. The etiology is obscure, and the significance of the associated occlusive phlebitis remains to be determined.

A rare case of primary clear cell carcinoma of the salivary gland is described, and the literature is reviewed. All primary clear cell tumors of the salivary glands are at least low-grade carcinomas. Morphologically, these tumors can be divided into two variants: bimorphic and monomorphic clear cell carcinomas. The bimorphic variant, of which the present case is an example, is morphologically unique and is composed of tubules lined by an inner layer of eosinophilic cells and an outer layer of clear cells. The monomorphic variant is composed of solid nests and cords of clear cells. The clear cells in both variants are nonmucinous and may or may not contain abundant glycogen. The clear cells in one bimorphic tumor showed features of myoepithelial differentiation ultrastructurally, but no such features were found in several cases of monomorphic tumor similarly studied. However, a close histogenetic relationship between these two tumor types is suggested by the occurrence of tumors that contained elements of both.

Multiple genital tract tumors, including bilateral ovarian sex cord tumors with annular tubules, adenoma malignum of the cervix, and bilateral ovarian mucinous tumors, developed in a female patient with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. Although each of these tumor types has been reported to occur in this syndrome, the present case appears to be the first in which the syndrome was complicated by tumors of all three types.

A 30-year-old man with a 6-month history of flank pain was found to have a large retroperitoneal seminoma. A subsequent ultrasound examination revealed an inhomogeneous echo pattern in the normal-sized right testicle, which on orchiectomy showed extensive intratubular germ cell neoplasia. Level sectioning of the entire testicle revealed no extratubular extension of the tumor cells. The retroperitoneal and testicular lesions could represent double primaries. However, the possibility exists that an apparently intratubular germ cell neoplasm may not actually be an in situ lesion and that the retroperitoneal tumor in our case represents a metastasis from the intratubular germ cell neoplasia of the testicle.

A case of adenomatous polyp of the colon with focal squamous metaplasia is reported. Squamous metaplasia has been described in both neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions of the colon. However, it has not previously been documented to occur in adenomatous polyp. The histogenesis, possible predisposing factors, and clinical significance of the lesion are discussed.

A case of classic (large vessel) polyarteritis nodosa in which the disease was apparently confined in the kidneys is described. The findings in this case support the concept of renal-limited polyarteritis nodosa.
