The article presents information on the Wetland and Wetland CH4 Intercomparison of Models Project (WETCHIMP) that was created to evaluate the simulation of large-scale wetland characteristics and their associated methane (CH4) emissions. In WETCHIMP, there were three methods were used to estimate wetland extent, that were based on wetland distribution maps, prognostic relations between hydrological states that were based on satellite observations, and hydrological mass balances.

The article explores the impact of carbon-nitrogen on the University of Victoria Earth System Climate Model (UVic ECSM), which contains terrestrial carbon (C) pools and nitrogen (N) pools. It suggests that the UVic CV-coupled version depicts similar features in terms of C and N pool and fluxes to other CN-coupled Earth System Models. The availability of N in terrestrial ecosystems and its significant effect on the global carbon cycle is discussed.

The article discusses the incorporation of a model that stimulates methane emissions from northern peatlands into a dynamic global vegetation model. Several areas including peatland hydrology, permafrost dynamics, and peatland vegetation were stimulated through the modification of the model LPJ-Wetland Hydrology and Methane (LPJ-WHyMe). A mechanistic approach was used for the stimulation of methane emissions by LPJ-WHyMe.
