Today, the manufacture of engine and fuselage parts of flying platforms such as helicopters and aircraft is largely based on solvable and indecipherable joining techniques. Especially in parts where unsolvable joining techniques are used, adhesive is used in limited places, but to a large extent Rivet, welding and solder connections are used and work is being done on new, lighter and more durable joining processes with higher connection efficiency. Especially in these days when the construction of domestic and national aircraft and helicopters is being accelerated, the understanding of these joining techniques and joining philosophy on behalf of our country is of greater importance for our country’s engineers. In this study, information is given about joining technologies, materials and joining concept used extensively in the manufacture of aircraft and current technologies are explained. It is so important to select the suitable materials from the 100.000 materials used in industry, but this is not an easy process. A technical person (an engineer or technologist) cannot select the suitable materials for an application area without having the sufficient knowledge about the structure and properties of materials. Errors can reach to enormous extents; this situation makes difficult for the selector of materials and other related units. In this article, first the importance of the selection of materials is mentioned and then fundamentals of materials' selection are explained.
