It is so important to select the suitable materials from the 100.000 materials used in industry, but this is not an easy process. A technical person (an engineer or technologist) cannot select the suitable materials for an application area without having the sufficient knowledge about the structure and properties of materials. Errors can reach to enormous extents; this situation makes difficult for the selector of materials and other related units. In this article, first the importance of the selection of materials is mentioned and then fundamentals of materials' selection are explained.
