We numerically demonstrate the modulation of plasmon resonances in a metamolecule composed of metal bars and L-shaped nanoparticles by using the finite difference time domain method. Due to the dependence of electromagnetic coupling on polarization of the incident light, we show that the superradiant and subradiant states can be switched from ON and OFF resonantly. These two resonances are continuously adjustable as the polarization angle of incident wave changes. This feature reveals a possibility of dynamically switching the coupled plasmon resonances of an artificial microstructure and to construct functional metamaterials, which is helpful for nanophotonic devices such as filters and optical switches. The field shift and mass shift parameters of the 2s2p 3,1P1 → 2s21S0 transitions in Be-like ions (70 ≤ Z ≤ 92) are calculated using the multi-configuration Dirac–Hartree–Fock and the relativistic configuration interaction methods with the inclusion of the Breit interaction and the leading QED corrections. We find that the mass shift parameters of these two transitions do not change monotonously along the isoelectronic sequence in the high-Z range due to the relativistic nuclear recoil effects. A minimum value exists for the specific mass shift parameters around Z = 80, especially for the 2s2p 3P1 → 2s21S0 transition. In addition, the field shifts and mass shifts of these two transitions are estimated using an empirical formula, and their contributions are compared along the isoelectronic sequence. To overcome the shortcomings of the traditional passive ranging technology based on image, such as poor ranging accuracy, low reliability and complex system, a new visual passive ranging method based on re-entrant coaxial optical path is presented. The target image is obtained using double cameras with coaxial optical path. Since there is imaging optical path difference between the cameras, the images are different. In comparison of the image differences, the target range could be reversed. The principle of the ranging method and the ranging model are described. The relationship among parameters in the ranging process is analyzed quantitatively. Meanwhile, the system composition and technical realization scheme are also presented. Also, the principle of the method is verified by the equivalent experiment. The experimental results show that the design scheme is correct and feasible with good robustness. Generally, the ranging error is less than 10% with good convergence. The optical path is designed in a re-entrant mode to reduce the volume and weight of the system. Through the coaxial design, the visual passive range of the targets with any posture can be obtained in real time. Nanowires, nanofibers and nanotubes have been widely used as the building blocks in micro/nano-electromechanical systems, energy harvesting or storage devices, and small-scaled measurement equipment. We report that the surface effects of these nanobeams have a great impact on their deflection and internal forces. A simply supported nanobeam is taken as an example. For the displacement and shear force of the nanobeam, its dangerous sections are different from those predicted by the conventional beam theory, but for the bending moment, the dangerous section is the same. Moreover, the values of these three quantities for the nanobeam are all distinct from those calculated from the conventional beam model. These analyses shed new light on the stiffness and strength check of nanobeams, which are beneficial to engineer new-types of nano-materials and nano-devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electroluminescence (EL) and temperature-dependent photoluminescence measurements are performed to study the internal quantum efficiency droop phenomenon of blue laser diodes (LDs) before lasing. Based on the ABC mode, the EL result demonstrates that non-radiative recombination rates of LDs with threshold current densities of 4 and 6 kA/cm2 are similar, while LD with threshold current density of 4 kA/cm2 exhibits a smaller auger-like recombination rate compared with the one of 6 kA/cm2. The internal quantum efficiency droop is more serious for LD with higher threshold current density. A new type of superconductive true random number generator (TRNG) based on a negative-inductance superconducting quantum interference device (nSQUID) is proposed. The entropy harnessed to generate random numbers comes from the phenomenon of symmetry breaking in the nSQUID. The experimental circuit is fabricated by the Nb-based lift-off process. Low-temperature tests of the circuit verify the basic function of the proposed TRNG. The frequency characteristics of the TRNG have been analyzed by simulation. A phase-slip flux qubit, exactly dual to a charge qubit, is composed of a superconducting loop interrupted by a phase-slip junction. We propose a tunable phase-slip flux qubit by replacing the phase-slip junction with a charge-related superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) consisting of two phase-slip junctions connected in series with a superconducting island. This charge-SQUID acts as an effective phase-slip junction controlled by the applied gate voltage and can be used to tune the energy-level splitting of the qubit. In addition, we show that a large inductance inserted in the loop can reduce the inductance energy and consequently suppress the dominating flux noise of the phase-slip flux qubit. A strong coupling meta-diatom-plasmonic nanocavity is proposed and numerically investigated. When the meta-diatomic sizes are gradually increased, the meta-diatomic electric dipole and quadrupole resonances could strongly couple to those of the nanocavity. The characteristic anticrossing behaviors of three hybrid modes manifest the occurrence of the strong coupling from the transmission spectra, with Rabi-type splittings at about 40.8 meV and 128.4 meV for dipole interaction, and 11.8 meV and 72.7 meV for quadrupole interaction, respectively. We also present the coupling strength dependence on meta-atomic positions, in which one meta-atomic position is fixed and the other is changed. The average Rabi-type splittings of three polariton modes are used to evaluate the coupling strength of the meta-atomic position dependence. The corresponding Rabi-type oscillation in the time domain is also presented, which is obviously different from the one of a single meta-atom strongly coupling to a nanocavity. Ion photon emission microscopy (IPEM) is a new ion-induced emission microscopy. It employs a broad ion beam with high energy and low fluence rate impinging on a sample. The position of a single ion is detected by an optical system with objective lens, prism, microscope tube and charge coupled device (CCD). A thin ZnS film doped with Ag ions is used as a luminescent material. Generation efficiency and transmission efficiency of photons in the ZnS(Ag) film created by irradiated Cl ions are calculated. A single Cl ion optical microscopic image is observed by high quantum efficiency CCD. The resolution of a single Cl ion given in this IPEM system is 6 μm. Several factors influencing the resolution are discussed. A silicon diode is used to collect the electrical signals caused by the incident ions. Effective and accidental coincidence of optical images and electronic signals are illustrated. An array of high power InGaN/GaN multi-quantum-well laser diodes with a broad waveguide is fabricated. The laser diode structure is grown on a GaN substrate by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. The laser diode array consists of five emitter stripes which share common electrodes on one laser chip. The electrical and optical characteristics of the laser diode array are investigated under the pulse current injection with 10kHz frequency and 100 ns pulse width. The laser diode array emits at the wavelength of 409 nm, which is located in the blue-violet region, and the threshold current is 2.9 A. The maximum output light peak power is measured to be 7.5 W at the wavelength of 411.8 nm under the current of 25 A. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report on the formation of Ohmic contacts with low resistance and high thermal stability to N-face n-GaN for vertical structure light emitters using a Ti(50nm)/Pt(50nm)/Au(50nm) metal scheme, where the Pt layer is introduced as a blocking layer to suppress the diffusion of Au onto the N-face n-GaN surface. It is shown that unlike the conventional Ti/Al/Ti/Au contacts, the Ti/Pt/Au contacts exhibit an Ohmic behavior with a relatively low specific contact resistivity of 1.1×10-4 Ω·cm2 even after annealing at 350°C. A wideband tunable frequency-doubling optoelectronic oscillator (FD-OEO) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated based on a polarization modulator and an optical bandpass filter (OBPF). The central frequency of the correspondingly fundamental OEO could be adjusted by tuning the bandwidth and central frequency of the OBPF, which could also be regarded as a photonic-assisted tunable microwave filter. The frequency tuning range of the FD-OEO covers from 9.5 to 32.8 GHz, and the single sideband phase noise of the fundamental signal is lower than −100 dBc/Hz at an offset of 10 kHz. Moreover, the frequency stability of the generated signal is investigated by measuring its Allan deviation. The Allan deviation of the generated fundamental signal at 10 GHz is 2.39×10−9. We present a new method to achieve an optical vector network analyzer (OVNA) based on a polarization multiplexing electro-optic modulator (PM-EOM) without an optical bandpass filter. Optical single sideband (OSSB) modulated signals with a tunable optical carrier-sideband ratio (OCSR) are obtained at the output of the PM-EOM. The OCSR can be flexibly tuned by controlling bias voltages of the PM-EOM. The dynamic range of the OVNA is expanded by taking the improvement of the OCSR into account. The transmission response of an optical device under test (ODUT) is measured based on one-to-one mapping from optical domain to electrical domain. By optimizing the OCSR of the OSSB modulated signals, the dynamic range of the OVNA can be effectively improved with 3.7 dB. An analytical model is derived to describe the transfer function of the ODUT. The magnitude and phase responses of a fiber Bragg grating are characterized with a large dynamic range. Due to its complicated matrix effects, rapid quantitative analysis of chromium in agricultural soils is difficult without the concentration gradient samples by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. To improve the analysis speed and accuracy, two calibration models are built with the support vector machine method: one considering the whole spectra and the other based on the segmental spectra input. Considering the results of the multiple linear regression analysis, three segmental spectra are chosen as the input variables of the support vector regression (SVR) model. Compared with the results of the SVR model with the whole spectra input, the relative standard error of prediction is reduced from 3.18% to 2.61% and the running time is saved due to the decrease in the number of input variables, showing the robustness in rapid soil analysis without the concentration gradient samples. Increasing the detection efficiency (DE) is a hot issue in the development of the superconducting nanowire single photon detector (SNSPD). In this work, a cavity-integrated structure coupled to the SNSPD is used to enhance the light absorption of nanowire. Ultra-thin Nb films are successfully prepared by magnetron sputtering, which are used to fabricate Nb/Al SNSPD with the curve of 100 nm and the square area of 4 × 4 μm2 by sputtering and the lift-off method. To characterize the optical and electrical performance of the cavity-integrated SNSPD, a reliable cryogenic research system is built up based on a He3 system. To satisfy the need of light coupling, a packaging structure with collimator is conducted. Both DE and the dark count rates increase with lb. It is also found that the DE of SNSPD with cavities can be up to 0.17% at the temperature of 0.7K under the infrared light of 1550 nm, which is obviously higher than that of the SNSPD directly fabricated upon silicon without any cavity structure. High efficiency, stable organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on 2-pheyl-4′-carbazole-9-H-Thioxanthen-9-one-10,10-dioxide (TXO-PhCz) with different doping concentration are constructed. The stability of the encapsulated devices are investigated in detail. The devices with the 10 wt% doped TXO-PhCz emitter layer (EML) show the best performance with a current efficiency of 52.1 cd/A, a power efficiency of 32.7 lm/W, and an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 17.7%. The devices based on the 10 wt%-doped TXO-PhCz EML show the best operational stability with a half-life time (LT50) of 80 h, which is 8 h longer than that of the reference devices based on fac-tris(2-phenylpyridinato)iridium(III) (Ir(ppy)3). These indicate excellent stability of TXO-PhCz for redox and oxidation processes under electrical excitation and TXO-PhCz can be potentially used as the emitters for OLEDs with high efficiency and excellent stability. The high-performance device based on TXO-PhCz with high stability can be further improved by the optimization of the encapsulation technology and the development of a new host for TXO-PhCz. We observe the Autler—Townes splitting effect in a Δ-type quantum three-level system, using the lowest three levels of a SQUID-type Al/AlOx/Al transmon qubit embedded in a three-dimensional copper microwave cavity. A control tone at different strengths is applied in resonance with the transition between the first and second excited states, while the spectra between each of them and the ground state are probed by another microwave tone. A test result of a module for the collision centrality detector array (CCDA), a simple detector array for the event classification of the centrality, is presented. The CsI(Tl) module has PMTs on both ends to read out signals. The beam test results indicate that it provides a good light charged particles (LCP) identification and a reasonable energy resolution. We present the experimental and numerical results of two-dimensional x-ray imaging due to fast electron transport in a solid target. A 40-μm-thick copper film target is irradiated by a 100 mJ, 50 fs normal incident laser pulse. The full width at half maximum of the x-ray photon dose is 25 μm, and the divergence angle of fast electrons is 25°–30°, which is detected by the pin-hole x-ray imaging technique. The target surface plasma layer is compressed by a ponderomotive force into a depth of 0.2λ. The plasma wave accompanied by fast electrons transporting into the target is studied by dividing the plasma into layers in a radial direction. A narrow fast electron channel, which is approximately 8 μm–10 μm in width, mainly contributes to the x-ray dose. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
