Purpose This paper aims to investigate the conceptualisation of corporate communication management (CCM) and its dimensionality from the practitioners' perspectives. It proposes to validate an operational definition and dimensions of the CCM construct, which have not been identified in the literature.Design/methodology/approach The initial concepts are based on academic literature and followed by 12 face-to-face interviews with corporate communication practitioners and consultants from Malaysia to confirm the practicality of each dimension. QSR Nvivo Version 9.0 software is used to analyse the qualitative data. Then, the data are classified through deductive content analysis based on key words or themes.Findings The diverse perspectives are shown from the practitioners and consultants on the dimensionality of CCM. Most of the interviewees suggest that CCM dimensions include corporate advertising, corporate affairs, investor relations and employee communication within the corporate communication and other departments. They also found the public relations and media relations are clearly under corporate communications manager's supervision. This research confirms the concept of CCM and its dimensionality to operationalise the CCM construct. The CCM dimensions also offer opportunities for further research to develop the measurement scales.Originality/value This research contributes to the clarification on the subject matter by developing clear concepts of the CCM and by offering insights about the role of the CCM dimensions, which help managers to more successfully incorporate the CCM dimension into the corporate management strategy. Purpose — To provide an overview of how corporate sponsorships can be successfully used by libraries. Design/methodology/approach — Using successful examples from St Louis Public Library, the topic of corporate sponsorships and their value to libraries is presented. Findings — Corporate sponsorship of services and events can be a valuable source of support for libraries. However, it is important to accurately determine what project costs are, and what the value of the partnership is for the corporation. Originality/value — Not everyone agrees that corporate sponsorships are a good idea for libraries, but getting involved in them does not mean that you have to compromise the library's mission. Purpose - Aims to investigate the suggestion that the library-funding crisis is real and that it is far more serious if one looks at it as a national and international phenomenon. Design/methodology/approach - Surveys recent library literature to ascertain the current health of library budgets. Specific examples are used. Findings - The changed focus in funding libraries reflects a change in civic values and institutional approaches to funding. Rather than rely on past strategies that once worked, new initiatives need to be developed. Purpose - To guide library directors and their boards when financial issues arise - especially in finding a good balance on the level of involvement that the library board should have. Design/methodology/approach - Uses a list of nine key responsibilities that can guide library board members when they deal with library finances. Findings - It is impossible to have a library board and not have it involved in financial issues important to the management of the institution. Without proper guidance and management, board members cannot participate with the library in these issues in a meaningful way. Originality/value - By listing nine responsibilities as examples, library directors can determine what responsibilities they want for their boards, and avoid some problems others have witnessed in other boards. This article depicts how the Baylor libraries staged two cost-effective celebrations to address challenges of migrating to a new online catalog. A New Orleans-style funeral provided a humorous backdrop for library staff to relive the tragedies and successes of the old system as it was laid to rest. Several months later, a christening brought together a significant segment of the campus community to launch the new OPAC. By these rites of passage, library employees entertained and educated campus administrators, faculty, students, and community patrons.
