The Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) is an integral part of the maritime safety package and has, in fact, become mandatory in key seaports and coastal areas with heavy shipping traffic. The high efficiency of the VTMS is confirmed by numerous examples from foreign and domestic VTMS practice, where the actions of operators prevented accidents and prevented the development of emergencies in a timely manner. Nevertheless, the current state and trends of maritime transport in the 21st century, such as the imminent emergence of crewless ships, dictate the need for further improvements in VTMS. As prospective directions of VTMS development, it is necessary to note the application of new types of radar stations with the improved characteristics, the introduction of subsystems for providing decision-making by operators, use of computer 3D-graphics for a display of navigational situations, transfer of information from VTMS centres to portable pilot tablets, integration of VTMS into the concept of electronic navigation (E-Nav). The aim of the study is the possibility of optimising the radar coverage areas of the Kerch Strait radar stations. The object of the study is to analyse the radar coverage areas of the radar stations. In the modelling, we used the software Cambridge Pixel's Radar Coverage Tool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
