This paper analyzed the Series of Nine Old Books of JinZang Rongxu’s Book of Jin Supplement I, Book of Jin, Ben Cao Yan Yi from the Song Dynasty, Renewed Classic of Tea written by Lu Tingcan in the Qing Dynasty and other documents. It was found that the earliest accurate record of tributed tea was from Wen Qiao, prefectural governor of Jiangzhou in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, who tributed a thousand pieces of tea and three hundred jin of tea to Emperor Cheng of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The time of tribute was from the first year of the reign of Emperor Xianhe (326) when Wen Qiao was appointed as the leader of Jiangzhou, to the fourth year of that period, and the second and third year was the most likely time.
