We study the influence that research environments have in shaping careers of early-career faculty in terms of their research portfolio. We find that departments exert an attractive force over early-career newcomer faculty, who after their incorporation increase their within-department collaborations, and work on topics closer to those of incumbent faculty. However, these collaborations are not gender blind: Newcomers collaborate less than expected with female senior incumbents. The analysis of departments grouped by fraction of female incumbents reveals that female newcomers in departments with above the median fractions of female incumbents tend to select research topics farther from their department than female newcomers in the remaining departments -- a difference we do not observe for male newcomers. Our results suggest a relationship between the collaboration deficit with female incumbents and the selection of research topics of female early-faculty, thus highlighting the importance of studying research environments to fully understand gender differences in academia.

In this study, we investigate a one-dimensional (1D) unidirectional phononic waveguide embedded within a three-dimensional (3D) hexagonal close-packed phononic crystal, achieved by the introduction of a screw dislocation. This approach does not rely on the non-trivial topological characteristics of the 3D crystal. We discover that this dislocation induces a pair of helical modes, characterized by their orthogonal $x$- and $y$-directional displacements being out of phase by 90 degrees, which results in a distinctive rotational motion. These helical modes demonstrate directional propagation, tightly linked to the helicity of the screw dislocation. Through considerations of symmetry, we reveal that the emergence of these helical modes is governed by the symmetry of the screw dislocation itself. Our findings not only provide insights into the interplay between dislocation-induced symmetry and wave propagation in phononic systems but also open new avenues for designing directionally selective waveguides without relying on the crystal's topological properties., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

The symmetric edge polytope (SEP) of a (finite, undirected) graph is a centrally symmetric lattice polytope whose vertices are defined by the edges of the graph. SEPs have been studied extensively in the past twenty years. Recently, T\'othm\'er\'esz and, independently, D'Al\'i, Juhnke-Kubitzke, and Koch generalized the definition of an SEP to regular matroids, as these are the matroids that can be characterized by totally unimodular matrices. Generalized SEPs are known to have symmetric Ehrhart $h^*$-polynomials, and Ohsugi and Tsuchiya conjectured that (ordinary) SEPs have nonnegative $\gamma$-vectors. In this article, we use combinatorial and Gr\"obner basis techniques to extend additional known properties of SEPs to generalized SEPs. Along the way, we show that generalized SEPs are not necessarily $\gamma$-nonnegative by providing explicit examples. We prove these polytopes to be "nearly" $\gamma$-nonnegative in the sense that, by deleting exactly two elements from the matroid, one obtains SEPs for graphs that are $\gamma$-nonnegative. We generalize R. P. Stanley's celebrated theorem that the $h^\ast$-polynomial of the Ehrhart series of a rational polytope has nonnegative coefficients and is monotone under containment of polytopes. We show that these results continue to hold for weighted Ehrhart series where lattice points are counted with polynomial weights, as long as the weights are homogeneous polynomials decomposable as sums of products of linear forms that are nonnegative on the polytope. We also show nonnegativity of the $h^\ast$-polynomial as a real-valued function for a larger family of weights. We then target the case when the weight function is the square of a single (arbitrary) linear form. We show stronger results for two-dimensional convex lattice polygons and give concrete examples showing tightness of the hypotheses. Quantum simulation has the potential to be an indispensable technique for the investigation of non-perturbative phenomena in strongly-interacting quantum field theories (QFTs). In the modern quantum era, with Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum~(NISQ) simulators widely available and larger-scale quantum machines on the horizon, it is natural to ask: what non-perturbative QFT problems can be solved with the existing quantum hardware? We show that existing noisy quantum machines can be used to analyze the energy spectrum of a large family of strongly-interacting 1+1D QFTs. The latter exhibit a wide-range of non-perturbative effects like `quark confinement' and `false vacuum decay' which are typically associated with higher-dimensional QFTs of elementary particles. We perform quench experiments on IBM's ibmq_mumbai quantum simulator to compute the energy spectrum of 1+1D quantum Ising model with a longitudinal field. The latter model is particularly interesting due to the formation of mesonic bound states arising from a confining potential for the Ising domain-walls, reminiscent of t'Hooft's model of two-dimensional quantum chromodynamics. The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced new opportunities for health communication, including an increase in the public use of online outlets for health-related emotions. People have turned to social media networks to share sentiments related to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this paper we examine the role of social messaging shared by Persons in the Public Eye (i.e. athletes, politicians, news personnel) in determining overall public discourse direction. We harvested approximately 13 million tweets ranging from 1 January 2020 to 1 March 2022. The sentiment was calculated for each tweet using a fine-tuned DistilRoBERTa model, which was used to compare COVID-19 vaccine-related Twitter posts (tweets) that co-occurred with mentions of People in the Public Eye. Our findings suggest the presence of consistent patterns of emotional content co-occurring with messaging shared by Persons in the Public Eye for the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic influenced public opinion and largely stimulated online public discourse. This study investigated and compared public sentiment related to COVID-19 vaccines expressed on two popular social media platforms, Reddit and Twitter, harvested from January 1, 2020, to March 1, 2022. To accomplish this task, we created a fine-tuned DistilRoBERTa model to predict sentiments of approximately 9.5 million Tweets and 70 thousand Reddit comments. To fine-tune our model, our team manually labeled the sentiment of 3600 Tweets and then augmented our dataset by the method of back-translation. Text sentiment for each social media platform was then classified with our fine-tuned model using Python and the Huggingface sentiment analysis pipeline. Our results determined that the average sentiment expressed on Twitter was more negative (52% positive) than positive and the sentiment expressed on Reddit was more positive than negative (53% positive). Though average sentiment was found to vary between these social media platforms, both displayed similar behavior related to sentiment shared at key vaccine-related developments during the pandemic. Considering this similar trend in shared sentiment demonstrated across social media platforms, Twitter and Reddit continue to be valuable data sources that public health officials can utilize to strengthen vaccine confidence and combat misinformation. As the spread of misinformation poses a range of psychological and psychosocial risks (anxiety, fear, etc.), there is an urgency in understanding the public perspective and attitude toward shared falsities. A subset $S$ of vertices of a graph $G$ is called a perfectly matchable set of $G$ if the subgraph induced by $S$ contains a perfect matching. The perfectly matchable set polynomial of $G$, first made explicit by Ohsugi and Tsuchiya, is the (ordinary) generating function $p(G; z)$ for the number of perfectly matchable sets of $G$. In this work, we provide explicit recurrences for computing $p(G; z)$ for an arbitrary (simple) graph and use these to compute the Ehrhart $h^*$-polynomials for certain lattice polytopes. Nonreciprocal transport of electromagnetic waves within magnetized plasma is a powerful building block towards understanding and exploiting the properties of more general topological systems. Much recent attention has been paid to the theoretical issues of wave interaction within such a medium, but there is a lack of experimental verification that such systems can be viable in a lab or industrial setting. This work provides an experimental proof-of-concept by demonstrating nonreciprocity in a unit component, a microwave plasma circulator. We design an E-plane Y junction plasma circulator operating in the range of 4 to 6 GHz using standardized waveguide specifications. From both simulations and experiments, we observe wide band isolation for the power transmission through the circulator. The performance and the frequency band of the circulator can be easily tuned by changing the plasma density and the magnetic field strength. The type-PQ adjacency polytope associated to a simple graph is a $0/1$-polytope containing valuable information about an underlying power network. Chen and the first author have recently demonstrated that, when the underlying graph $G$ is connected, the normalized volumes of the adjacency polytopes can be computed by counting sequences of nonnegative integers satisfying restrictions determined by $G$. This article builds upon their work, namely by showing that one of their main results -- the so-called "triangle recurrence" -- applies in a more general setting. Formulas for the normalized volumes when $G$ is obtained by deleting a path or a cycle from a complete graph are also established.

Symmetry indicators are a modern tool for characterizing topological phases that require only minimal computational expense but provide an elegant means of designing practical devices. This paper demonstrates how a rotational symmetry indicator can be used to construct and characterize a topologically robust waveguide, which is then verified experimentally on a printed circuit board (PCB) platform. The design takes advantage of the real-space gauge-dependency of the symmetry indicators and adopts a $C_6$ lattice with simple shifts, forming a defect line supporting topological edge modes. It is shown that the modes can realize the same features as previous topological waveguides, but in addition possesses a greater degree of reconfigurability and the unique ability to form a one-way termination. Moreover, the design illustrates the critical role real space information plays in determining the topological properties of photonic crystals, enabling a wider range of possible realizations.

We describe the possibility for topologically robust edge states existing on interfaces of triangular lattices which are supported by rotational symmetries that are sensitive to boundary conditions. Such states are trivial from the perspective of Berry curvature, but result instead from an interplay between crystalline symmetries and finite boundary effects. Regardless, we show such states are in a distinct topological phase, provided the gauge-dependent symmetries are maintained. The latest advances in topological physics have yielded a rich toolset to design highly robust wave transfer systems, for overcoming issues like beam steering and lateral diffraction in surface acoustic waves (SAWs). However, presently used designs for topologically protected SAWs have been largely limited to spin or valley-polarized phases, which rely on non-zero Berry curvature effects. Here we propose and experimentally demonstrate a highly robust SAW waveguide on lithium niobate (LiNbO3), based on a line defect within a true triangular phononic lattice, which instead employs an intrinsic chirality of phase vortices and maintains a zero Berry curvature. The guided SAW mode spans a wide bandwidth and shows confinement in the lateral direction with 3 dB attenuation within half of the unit-cell length. SAW routing around sharp bends has been demonstrated in such waveguide, with less than ~4% reflection per bend. The waveguide has also been found robust for defect lines with different configurations. The fully on-chip system permits unidirectional SAW modes that are tightly bound to the waveguide, which provides a compact footprint ideal for miniaturization of practical applications and offers insight into the possibility of manipulating highly focused SAW propagation.

Symmetric edge polytopes, a.k.a. PV-type adjacency polytopes, associated with undirected graphs have been defined and studied in several seemingly independent areas including number theory, discrete geometry, and dynamical systems. In particular, the authors are motivated by the study of the algebraic Kuramoto equations of unmixed form whose Newton polytopes are the symmetric edge polytopes. The interplay between the geometric structure of symmetric edge polytopes and the topological structure of the underlying graphs has been a recurring theme in recent studies. In particular, ``facet/face subgraphs'' have emerged as one of the central concepts in describing this symmetry. Continuing along this line of inquiry we provide a complete description of the correspondence between facets/faces of a symmetric edge polytope and maximal bipartite subgraphs of the underlying connected graph.

Control and manipulation of electromagnetic waves has reached a new level with the recent understanding of topological states of matter. These metamaterials have the potential to revolutionize many areas in traditional electromagnetic design, from highly robust cavities to small footprint waveguides. Much of the past literature has been on the cutting edge of condensed matter physics, but there is now ample opportunity to explore their usage for practical microwave and optical devices. To assist the beginner, in this Tutorial we give a basic introduction to the essential concepts of topological phenomena in electromagnetic systems, including geometric phases, topological invariants, pseudospin states, and the integer/valley/spin quantum Hall effects. Our focus is on engineered photonic topological insulators (PTIs) in two-dimensional systems. We highlight methods for characterizing such structures and how they result in unique wave-guiding properties. In addition, we provide recipes on how to realize PTIs using photonic crystals and metasurfaces, examine differences between different types of PTIs, and discuss limitations and advantages of some of the existing enabling platforms., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, journal article

Reflexive lattice polytopes play a key role in combinatorics, algebraic geometry, physics, and other areas. One important class of lattice polytopes are lattice simplices defining weighted projective spaces. We investigate the question of when a reflexive weighted projective space simplex has the integer decomposition property. We provide a complete classification of reflexive weighted projective space simplices having the integer decomposition property for the case when there are at most three distinct non-unit weights, and conjecture a general classification for an arbitrary number of distinct non-unit weights. Further, for any weighted projective space simplex and $m\geq 1$, we define the $m$-th reflexive stabilization, a reflexive weighted projective space simplex. We prove that when $m$ is $2$ or greater, reflexive stabilizations do not have the integer decomposition property. We also prove that the Ehrhart $h^\ast$-polynomial of any sufficiently large reflexive stabilization is not unimodal and has only $1$ and $2$ as coefficients. We use this construction to generate interesting examples of reflexive weighted projective space simplices that are near the boundary of both $h^*$-unimodality and the integer decomposition property.

Personal health libraries (PHLs) provide a single point of secure access to patients digital health data and enable the integration of knowledge stored in their digital health profiles with other sources of global knowledge. PHLs can help empower caregivers and health care providers to make informed decisions about patients health by understanding medical events in the context of their lives. This paper reports the implementation of a mobile health digital intervention that incorporates both digital health data stored in patients PHLs and other sources of contextual knowledge to deliver tailored recommendations for improving self-care behaviors in diabetic adults. We conducted a thematic assessment of patient functional and nonfunctional requirements that are missing from current EHRs based on evidence from the literature. We used the results to identify the technologies needed to address those requirements. We describe the technological infrastructures used to construct, manage, and integrate the types of knowledge stored in the PHL. We leverage the Social Linked Data (Solid) platform to design a fully decentralized and privacy-aware platform that supports interoperability and care integration. We provided an initial prototype design of a PHL and drafted a use case scenario that involves four actors to demonstrate how the proposed prototype can be used to address user requirements, including the construction and management of the PHL and its utilization for developing a mobile app that queries the knowledge stored and integrated into the PHL in a private and fully decentralized manner to provide better recommendations. Recent advances in topologically robust waveguiding for electromagnetic systems have presented opportunities for improving practical photonic and microwave devices. To bring this rich area of physics within the reach of application, it is critical for such systems to be interfaced with classical, continuous waveguiding and transmission line technology. This Letter presents a compact, highly efficient transition from a classical metallic transmission line to a topologically nontrivial line wave emulating the quantum spin Hall effect. A zero-gap antipodal slot line is used as the starting transmission line, which is then coupled to the topological metasurface via a field matching procedure. Additional modifications to the interface between the two structures to eliminate unwanted edge coupling improves transmission further. A simulated loss analysis isolates the effect of the transitions from the rest of the structure, showing a loss contribution of only 2.1% per classical-to-topological conversion. Using the transition, a quantitative characterization of the robustness of common topologically protected devices is presented. This design lays the foundation to integrate topologically robust metasurface transmission lines to traditional systems, opening the door to future uses of such structures in systems., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures. Adjacency polytopes appear naturally in the study of nonlinear emergent phenomena in complex networks. The "PQ-type" adjacency polytope, denoted $\nabla^{\mathrm{PQ}}_G$ and which is the focus of this work, encodes rich combinatorial information about power-flow solutions in sparse power networks that are studied in electric engineering. Of particular importance is the normalized volume of such an adjacency polytope, which provides an upper bound on the number of distinct power-flow solutions. In this article we show that the problem of computing normalized volumes for $\nabla^{\mathrm{PQ}}_G$ can be rephrased as counting $D(G)$-draconian sequences where $D(G)$ is a certain bipartite graph associated to the network. We prove recurrences for all networks with connectivity at most $1$ and, for $2$-connected graphs under certain restrictions, we give recurrences for subdividing an edge and taking the join of an edge with a new vertex. Together, these recurrences imply a simple, non-recursive formula for the normalized volume of $\nabla^{\mathrm{PQ}}_G$ when $G$ is part of a large class of outerplanar graphs; we conjecture that the formula holds for all outerplanar graphs. Edge states protected by bulk topology of photonic crystals show robustness against short-range disorder, making robust information transfer possible. Here, topological photonic crystals under long-range deformations are investigated. Vertices of each regular hexagon in a honeycomb crystalline structure are shifted randomly to establish a deformed system. By increasing the degree of random deformations, a transition from an ordered system to an amorphous system are investigated, where the close of topological bandgap is clearly shown. We further present comprehensive investigations into excitation methods of the proposed deformed system. Due to the lack of strict periodicity, excitation of topological edge modes becomes difficult. Chiral and linearly polarized sources as two different methods are investigated respectively. It is found that chiral sources are sensitive and rely on the ordered lattice. Even a weak long-range deformation can bring fluctuations to transmission. We further designed and fabricated metal-dielectric-metal sandwich-like samples working in the microwave band. Using linearly polarized source, we detected the existence of topological transport in the deformed system. This work investigates excitation and robustness of bulk topology against long-range deformations and may open the way for exploiting topological properties of materials with a deformed lattice.

The design space of networked embedded systems is very large, posing challenges to the optimisation of such platforms when it comes to support applications with real-time guarantees. Recent research has shown that a number of inter-related optimisation problems have a critical influence over the schedulability of a system, i.e. whether all its application components can execute and communicate by their respective deadlines. Examples of such optimization problems include task allocation and scheduling, communication routing and arbitration, memory allocation, and voltage and frequency scaling. In this paper, we advocate the use of evolutionary approaches to address such optimization problems, aiming to evolve individuals of increased fitness over multiple generations of potential solutions. We refer to plentiful evidence that existing real-time schedulability tests can be used effectively to guide evolutionary optimisation, either by themselves or in combination with other metrics such as energy dissipation or hardware overheads. We then push that concept one step further and consider the possibility of using evolutionary techniques to evolve the schedulability tests themselves, aiming to support the verification and optimisation of systems which are too complex for state-of-the-art (manual) derivation of schedulability tests.

In the 1970s, O'Keefe and Dostrovsky discovered that certain neurons, called place cells, in an animal's brain are tied to its location within its arena. A combinatorial neural code is a collection of $0/1$-vectors which encode the patterns of co-firing activity among the place cells. Gross, Obatake, and Youngs have recently used techniques from toric algebra to study when a neural code is $0$- $1$-, or $2$-inductively pierced: a property that allows one to reconstruct a Venn diagram-like planar figure that acts as a geometric schematic for the neural co-firing patterns. This article examines their work closely by focusing on a variety of classes of combinatorial neural codes. The study of frequency synchronization configurations in Kuramoto models is a ubiquitous mathematical problem that has found applications in many seemingly independent fields. In this paper, we focus on networks whose underlying graph are cycle graphs. Based on the recent result on the upper bound of the frequency synchronization configurations in this context, we propose a toric deformation homotopy method for locating all frequency synchronization configurations with complexity that is linear in this upper bound. Loosely based on the polyhedral homotopy method, this homotopy induces a deformation of the set of the synchronization configurations into a series of toric varieties, yet our method has the distinct advantage of avoiding the costly step of computing mixed cells. We also explore the important consequences of this homotopy method in the context of direct acyclic decomposition of Kuramoto networks and tropical stable intersection points for Kuramoto equations.

Combinatorial neural codes are $0/1$ vectors that are used to model the co-firing patterns of a set of place cells in the brain. One wide-open problem in this area is to determine when a given code can be algorithmically drawn in the plane as a Venn diagram-like figure. A sufficient condition to do so is for the code to have a property called $k$-inductively pierced. Gross, Obatake, and Youngs recently used toric algebra to show that a code on three neurons is $1$-inductively pierced if and only if the toric ideal is trivial or generated by quadratics. No result is known for additional neurons in the same generality, part of the difficulty coming from the large number of codewords possible when additional neurons are used. In this article, we study two infinite classes of combinatorial neural codes in detail. For each code, we explicitly compute its universal Gr\"obner basis. This is done for the first class by recognizing that the codewords form a Lawrence-type matrix. With the second class, this is done by showing that the matrix is totally unimodular. These computations allow one to compute the state polytopes of the corresponding toric ideals, from which all distinct initial ideals may be computed efficiently. Synchronization in networks of interconnected oscillators is a fascinating phenomenon that appear naturally in many independent fields of science and engineering. A substantial amount of work has been devoted to understanding all possible synchronization configurations on a given network. In this setting, a key problem is to determine the total number of such configurations. Through an algebraic formulation, for tree and cycle graphs, we provide an upper bound on this number using the birationally invariant intersection index of a system of rational functions on a toric variety.

A frequent topic in the study of pattern avoidance is identifying when two sets of patterns $\Pi, \Pi'$ are Wilf equivalent, that is, when $|\text{Av}_n(\Pi)| = |\text{Av}_n(\Pi')|$ for all $n$. In recent work of Dokos et al. the notion of Wilf equivalence was refined to reflect when avoidance of classical patterns preserves certain statistics. The peak set of a permutation records the indices of its peaks. These sets have been studied in a variety of contexts, including recent work by Billey, Burdzy, and Sagan, which enumerated permutations with prescribed peak sets. In this article, we look at a natural analogue of the peak set of a permutation, instead recording the values of the peaks. We define the "pinnacle set" of a permutation w to be the set {w(i) : i is a peak of w}. Although peak sets and pinnacle sets mark the same phenomenon for a given permutation, the behaviors of these sets differ in notable ways as distributions over the symmetric group. We introduce new natural generalizations of the classical descent and inversion statistics for permutations, called width-$k$ descents and width-$k$ inversions. These variations induce generalizations of the excedance and major statistics, providing a framework in which the most well-known equidistributivity results for classical statistics are paralleled. We explore additional relationships among the statistics providing specific formulas in certain special cases. Two well-known polytopes whose vertices are indexed by permutations in the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ are the permutohedron $P_n$ and the Birkhoff polytope $B_n$. We consider polytopes $P_n(\Pi)$ and $B_n(\Pi)$, whose vertices correspond to the permutations in $\mathfrak{S}_n$ avoiding a set of patterns $\Pi$. For various choices of $\Pi$, we explore the Ehrhart polynomials and $h^*$-vectors of these polytopes as well as other aspects of their combinatorial structure. For $P_n(\Pi)$, we consider all subsets $\Pi \subseteq \mathfrak{S}_3$ and are able to provide results in most cases. To illustrate, $P_n(123,132)$ is a Pitman-Stanley polytope, the number of interior lattice points in $P_n(132,312)$ is a derangement number, and the normalized volume of $P_n(123,231,312)$ is the number of trees on $n$ vertices. The polytopes $B_n(\Pi)$ seem much more difficult to analyze, so we focus on four particular choices of $\Pi$. First we show that the $B_n(231,321)$ is exactly the Chan-Robbins-Yuen polytope. Next we prove that for any $\Pi$ containing $\{123,312\}$ we have $h^*(B_n(\Pi))=1$. Finally, we study $B_n(132,312)$ and $\widetilde{B}_n(123)$, where the tilde indicates that we choose vertices corresponding to alternating permutations avoiding the pattern $123$. In both cases we use order complexes of posets and techniques from toric algebra to construct regular, unimodular triangulations of the polytopes. The posets involved turn out to be isomorphic to the lattices of Young diagrams contained in a certain shape, and this permits us to give an exact expression for the normalized volumes of the corresponding polytopes via the hook formula. Finally, Stanley's theory of $(P,\omega)$-partitions allows us to show that their $h^*$-vectors are symmetric and unimodal. A long-standing open conjecture in combinatorics asserts that a Gorenstein lattice polytope with the integer decomposition property (IDP) has a unimodal (Ehrhart) $h^\ast$-polynomial. This conjecture can be viewed as a strengthening of a previously disproved conjecture which stated that any Gorenstein lattice polytope has a unimodal $h^\ast$-polynomial. The first counterexamples to unimodality for Gorenstein lattice polytopes were given in even dimensions greater than five by Musta{\c{t}}{\v{a}} and Payne, and this was extended to all dimensions greater than five by Payne. While there exist numerous examples in support of the conjecture that IDP reflexives are $h^\ast$-unimodal, its validity has not yet been considered for families of reflexive lattice simplices that closely generalize Payne's counterexamples. The main purpose of this work is to prove that the former conjecture does indeed hold for a natural generalization of Payne's examples. The second purpose of this work is to extend this investigation to a broader class of lattice simplices, for which we present new results and open problems., Comment: 15 pages

In Ehrhart theory, the $h^*$-vector of a rational polytope often provide insights into properties of the polytope that may be otherwise obscured. As an example, the Birkhoff polytope, also known as the polytope of real doubly-stochastic matrices, has a unimodal $h^*$-vector, but when even small modifications are made to the polytope, the same property can be very difficult to prove. An interesting open problem in Ehrhart theory is to classify those lattice polytopes having a unimodal $h^*$-vector. Although various sufficient conditions have been found, necessary conditions remain a challenge. In this paper, we consider integrally closed reflexive simplices and discuss an operation that preserves reflexivity, integral closure, and unimodality of the $h^*$-vector, providing one explanation for why unimodality occurs in this setting. We also discuss the failure of proving unimodality in this setting using weak Lefschetz elements.

Motivated by examples of symmetrically constrained compositions, super convex partitions, and super convex compositions, we initiate the study of partitions and compositions constrained by graph Laplacian minors. We provide a complete description of the multivariate generating functions for such compositions in the case of trees. We answer a question due to Corteel, Savage, and Wilf regarding super convex compositions, which we describe as compositions constrained by Laplacian minors for cycles; we extend this solution to the study of compositions constrained by Laplacian minors of leafed cycles. Connections are established and conjectured between compositions constrained by Laplacian minors of leafed cycles of prime length and algebraic/combinatorial properties of reflexive simplices.
