Abstract

Hechtia argentea was described from a cultivated pistillate plant of unknown origin. The type specimen consists of a leaf fragment and a portion of a pistillate inflorescence. Hechtia argentea is part of a group of species with rosettes that bloom laterally, showing variation in dimensions and structure of the inflorescences of both sexes through the different years of flowering. Delimitation of species becomes more complicated where staminate and/or pistillate plants of different species are frequently similar, making it essential to have all plant structures available for accurate identifications. We designate an epitype for Hechtia argentea, consisting of a staminate plant, allowing for the unambiguous identification of the species. Species in Hechtia have restricted geographical distributions; thus, we provide precise locality data for H. argentea within Megamexico based on herbarium specimens. The species is endemic to the Sierra Madre Oriental and Mexican Plateau biogeographical regions, in the Mexican States of Hidalgo and Querétaro. In addition, we include for the first time a complete morphological description of both morphs, line drawings and photos of the species in situ, as well as a map showing the known distribution. 5. New Contributions to the Knowledge of Heilipus lauri Barber (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in Mexico.

Abstract

Biological aspects, preference, incidence of damage to fruits of Mexican criollo (Persea americana var. drymifolia) and Hass variety avocado, and new distribution sites of Heilipus lauri in the eastern region of the state of Hidalgo and states surrounding this zone are reported. The biological cycle had a duration of 79.66 ± 4.56 days, and there was a sex ratio of 1.07 females: 0.92 males. There was evident sexual dimorphism; females are larger than males and have a longer, thinner rostrum. The damage attributed to H. lauri was 30% in Hass avocados and 70% in Mexican criollo avocados. Fruits were perforated when they measured 2.0 cm wide and 3.0 cm long for criollo avocados, and 4.0 wide and 5.0 cm long in Hass avocados. There were between one and four perforations per fruit, but all seeds had only one larva inside. The highest percentages of damage occurred on the east-facing quadrant of the tree. Heilipus lauri is reported here at 2100 m above sea level in criollo avocado, yielding a reported elevational range of H. lauri in Mexico from 570 to 2100 m above sea level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

6. Findings in the Area of Chemicals and Chemistry Reported from Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo [Evaluation of Novel Fluorescent 1,5-naphthalene-bis(Allylcarbonate) Monomer Used In the Formulation of Dental Composite Resins].

Abstract

A study conducted at the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo in Mexico has explored the use of a novel fluorescent monomer, 1,5-naphthalene-bis(allylcarbonate) (1,5NBAC), in the formulation of dental composite resins. The researchers synthesized the 1,5NBAC monomer and formulated experimental composite resins by incorporating it along with other materials. The results showed that the 1,5NBAC-based composite resin had similar properties to the control resin, including flexural strength, elastic modulus, and polymerization shrinkage. Additionally, the 1,5NBAC monomer exhibited a high fluorescence quantum yield, making it potentially useful for creating esthetic dental materials with fluorescence similar to natural teeth. 7. Recent Findings from National Polytechnic Institute Provides New Insights into CDC and FDA (Augmented Reality To the Creation of Hybrid Maps Applied In Soil Sciences: a Study Case In Ixmiquilpan Hidalgo, Mexico).

A recent study conducted by researchers at the National Polytechnic Institute in Hidalgo, Mexico, explores the use of augmented reality (AR) technology in teaching earth sciences. The study focuses on the creation of an Interactive Hybrid Maps AR Application that combines edaphological, geographical, and cartographic information to enhance online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. 8. Studies from Autonomous University Further Understanding of Escherichia coli (Antimicrobial Effects of Aqueous Extract From Calyces of hibiscus Sabdariffa In Cd-1 Mice Infected With Multidrug-resistant Enterohemorrhagic escherichia...).

Abstract

A study conducted at the Autonomous University in Hidalgo, Mexico, investigated the antimicrobial effects of chloramphenicol and an aqueous extract from the calyces of Hibiscus sabdariffa on multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli (EHEC) and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium in CD-1 mice. The researchers found that the aqueous extract had a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 20 and 50 mg/mL, respectively, for both pathogens. Mice that were administered the aqueous extract showed no presence of EHEC and S. Typhimurium in their feces and recovered from the infection, while untreated mice or those treated with chloramphenicol alone continued to have pathogens in their feces and experienced some deaths. Abstract

David Moore provisionally and therefore invalidly published the name Ceratozamia fuscoviridis in 1878. The name was subsequently accepted with a brief description the year after in one of William Bull's horticultural catalogues, resulting in its valid publication. In 2006, Roy Osborne and co-authors intended to validate Moore's C. fuscoviridis, a name that they identified as applicable to a cycad occurring in the State of Hidalgo, Mexico. However, they were unaware of the protologue published by Bull and instead created an isonym with no nomenclatural status. Their holotype designation has no standing but that specimen is here designated as a neotype, therefore retaining the name C. fuscoviridis in use for the species from Hidalgo. Considerations regarding the increasing discovery of validly published names in historical literature are discussed as pertaining to the nomenclature of cycads, with the case of C. fuscoviridis providing an example of an old and obsolete plant name that is dealt with in a way that fosters nomenclatural stability. Abstract

• Geological feasibility and volumetry estimation for carbon capture CCS project in carbonates. • Characterization of geological samples and legacy data from oil and gas prospective wells. • Atmospheric pollution from the industrial corridor in Tula Mexico exceeds international limits. We describe a geological assessment for the development of a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project in the atmospherically polluted area of Tula de Allende, State of Hidalgo in Central México. This study targets a deep saline reservoir system (Soyatal and El Abra formations of Cretaceous age) by performing the first detailed analysis of the geological structure and petrophysical properties of the subsurface rocks in the study area. A comprehensive study of the stratigraphy and mineralogy was conducted with rocks from México's geologic repository (Litoteca Nacional). which included petrography, permeability, and CT scanning. The results were correlated with wireline logs and drilling reports of a dry well (Jasso-1) previously drilled for petroleum prospecting in the area. The integrated data identified a potential set of carbonaceous reservoir and caprock formations, with a preliminary storage capacity of 1.1 GTCO 2. The industrial corridor in Tula de Allende includes a 300 KBPD refinery, an 1800 MW high-sulfur fuel oil- power plant, and cement factories, which contribute to air pollution that exceeds international limits of air quality of carbon dioxide (CO 2), nitrogen oxides (NO x), sulphur oxides (SO x), and particulates. A CCS project would not only improve the environmental quality for local inhabitants, reducing the atmospheric pollution in the immediate area but additionally have the same effects in Mexico City. The latter is noted to have a population of over 20 million where the winds are key in transporting these pollutants from the source area of Tula de Allende. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
