In chapters 55-56 of Rabelais's Quart Livre, Pantagruel and his companions encounter a soundscape of inexplicable, disembodied voices and noises, which turn out to be sounds that have frozen into visible, tangible, sensory objects. This article uses the episode to think about words as objects in the world, with a physical presence and sensible properties. Considering first the widespread critical suspicion of the frozen words' materiality through the lens of the fetish, the article then turns to the material culture of textual production and focuses on the sixteenth-century printshop, where words, in the form of metal type, are also things. The article aims to take a new perspective on the materiality of the frozen words; to consider Rabelais's familiarity with the printing process; and to explore the impact of the technology of movable type on perceptions of meaning and error in Rabelais's work. Purpose: External ear reconstruction has been a challenging subject for plastic surgeons for decades. Popular methods using autologous costal cartilage or polyethylene still have their drawbacks. With the advance of three-dimensional (3D) printing technique, bioscaffold engineering using synthetic polymer draws attention as an alternative. This is a clinical trial of ear reconstruction using 3D printed scaffold, presented with clinical results after 1 year. Materials and Methods: From 2021 to 2022, five adult patients with unilateral microtia underwent two-staged total ear reconstruction using 3D printed implants. For each patient, a patient-specific 3D printed scaffold was designed and produced with polycaprolactone (PCL) based on computed tomography images, using fused deposition modeling. Computed tomography scan was obtained preoperatively, within 2 weeks following the surgery and after 1 year, to compare the volume of the normal side and the reconstructed ear. At 1-year visit, clinical photo was taken for scoring by two surgeons and patients themselves. Results: All five patients had completely healed reconstructed ear at 1-year follow-up. On average, the volume of reconstructed ear was 161.54% of that of the normal side ear. In a range of 0 to 10, objective assessors gave scores 3 to 6, whereas patients gave scores 8 to 10. Conclusion: External ear reconstruction using 3D printed PCL implant showed durable, safe results reflected by excellent volume restoration and patient satisfaction at 1 year postoperatively. Further clinical follow-up with more cases and refinement of scaffold with advancing bioprinting technique is anticipated. The present paper provides a historical context for chaos theory, originating in the 1960s with Edward Norton Lorenz's efforts to predict weather patterns. It introduces chaos theory, fractal geometry, nonlinear dynamics, and the butterfly effect, highlighting their exploration of complex systems. The authors aim to bridge the gap between chaos theory and oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) through a literature review, exploring its applications and emphasizing the prevention of minor deviations in OMFS to avoid significant consequences. A comprehensive literature review was conducted on PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases. The selection process adhered to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines and Leiden Manifesto principles. Articles focusing on chaos theory principles in health sciences, published in the last two decades, were included. The review encompassed 37 articles after screening 386 works. It revealed applications in outcome variation, surgical planning, simulations, decision-making, and emerging technologies. Potential applications include predicting infections, malignancies, dental fractures, and improving decision-making through disease prediction systems. Emerging technologies, despite criticisms, indicate advancements in AI integration, contributing to enhanced diagnostic accuracy and personalized treatment strategies. Chaos theory, a distinct scientific framework, holds potential to revolutionize OMFS. Its integration with advanced techniques promises personalized, less traumatic surgeries and improved patient care. The interdisciplinary synergy of chaos theory and emerging technologies presents a future in which OMFS practices become more efficient, less traumatic, and achieve a level of precision never seen before. Three-dimensional (3D) modeling and printing is an emerging technology in veterinary cardiovascular medicine allowing the fabrication of anatomically correct patient-specific models. These patient-specific models can be used for a wide range of purposes including medical teaching, assessment of cardiac function and movement of valve leaflets, design and assessment of devices created for interventional procedures, and pre-surgical planning [1–3]. Additionally, these 3D models can facilitate communication between the clinical team and the patient's owner. The process of creating 3D models starts with acquiring volumetric imaging data sets of the area of interest. Three-dimensional modeling and printing are reliable when high-quality volumetric imaging data are used to create these models. Currently, only ungated- and electrocardiogram (ECG)-gated computed tomography (CT), cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI), and 3D echocardiography provide the volumetric data sets needed to create these 3D models. These imaging data sets are imported into a software or open-source freeware platform and then segmented to create a virtual 3D model. This virtual 3D model can be further refined using computer-aided design (CAD) software and then be printed to create a physical 3D model. Cardiovascular 3D modeling and printing is a new medical tool which allows us to expand the way we plan interventional procedures, practice interventional skills, communicate with the medical team and owner, and teach future veterinarians. An antenna is a medium of communication in electronic systems and one of its branches is known as wearable antenna (embedded in clothing or other wearables). Antennas are found in a wide range of applications such as medical, military, sports, safety, fitness, satellite communication etc. Textile based antennas are considered a replacement of conventional communication systems in E-textiles as they are more flexible and comfortable as compared to their metallic counterparts and more efficient than transmission wires. Electronic wiring which is commonly used for data transmission is susceptible to damage because of bending or stretching in wearables and may cause interferences between signals and time delays. One of the most significant advantages of wearable antennas is the reduction of bulk of electronic components as they can act as a sensor and communicator at a time. The cost can also be reduced this way. The current work focuses on the review of different manufacturing techniques for wearable antennas. The scope of this review is to highlight main techniques, their advantages and limitations in comparison with each other as well as to describe the available solutions of associated problems. In this article, I analyze the material and technical means employed in a Jasper Johns painting in relation to its imagery and semantics. I suggest viewing the multiple quotations, the references to the printing procedures, and the ventriloquist motif as Johns's unique way of dealing with the concept of artistic originality. The vast majority of scholarship on Johns's Ventriloquist associates the references in the painting with the work's title--in both cases (of the references and ventriloquism), it appears that the voice comes from other sources. The emphasis there is on the act of cultural borrowing, a consideration of the painting as a Barthesian text, a "tissue of quotations." Accordingly, Johns's reference to Barnett Newman in 1983 was read in light of the "Death of the Author," similarly to the way his work was interpreted three decades earlier, as a revolt of a Neo-Dadaist against a central figure in Abstract Expressionism. Ventriloquism, however, not only problematizes authorship and originality, it also brings to mind the act of mediating the physical aspects and material means that are involved in expressing ideas through a medium. In this article, I show how Johns dealt with originality not as an abstract entity but as an element embodied in the medium of printing. By focusing on Johns's reference to Newman, I propose an additional perspective to the encounter between two artists in which "originality" finds itself in the material aspects of the artistic medium. In-house repositioning methods based on three-dimensional (3D)-printing technology and the use of pre-bent plates has been gaining popularity in orthognathic surgery. However, there remains room for further improvement in methods and investigations on clinical factors that affect accuracy. This single-centre, prospective study included 34 patients and aimed to evaluate the accuracy and factors influencing maxillary and mandibular repositioning using pre-bent locking plates. The plates were manually pre-bent on the 3D-printed models of the planned position, and their hole positions were scanned and reproduced intraoperatively with osteotomy guides. The accuracy of repositioning and plate-hole positioning was calculated in three axes with the set landmarks. The following clinical factors that affect repositioning accuracy were also verified: deviation of the plate-hole positioning, amount of planned movement, and amount of simulated bony interference. The median deviations of the repositioning and hole positioning between the preoperative plan and postoperative results were 0.26 mm and 0.23 mm, respectively, in the maxilla, and 0.69 mm and 0.36 mm, respectively, in the mandible, suggesting that the method was highly accurate, and the repositioning concept based on the plate hole and form matching was more effective in the maxilla. Results of the correlation test suggest that large amounts of bony interference and plate-hole positioning errors in the up/down direction could reduce mandibular repositioning accuracy. Although noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is administered to manage respiratory failure due to various causes, safety and effectiveness issues associated with the use of NIV masks have been reported. The present article aims to provide health professionals with a comprehensive review of the ergonomic considerations of NIV masks in terms of design, evaluation, and personalization. Based on a review of 93 papers, we provide guidelines for mask selection and troubleshooting during mask use as well as ergonomic approaches including face anthropometry, sizing systems, mask design, evaluation, and personalization. The comprehensive information presented in this review provides ergonomic perspectives to identify and prevent safety and usability problems associated with the use of NIV masks. In this article, which was delivered as a keynote address at the annual meeting of the Swedish Sociological Association on March 16, 2022 in Uppsala, the following argument is made. Two different approaches to theory in sociology are presented and discussed: theory as text and theory as activities. In the former, theory is seen as embodied in a text, and the focus is squarely on its content. Little attempt is made in the text to discuss how the theory was actually developed and how to use it. In theory as activities, in contrast, the main focus is on how to work with a theory in a concrete manner. The basic unit of analysis is here not just the theory, but the theory as part of the research process. Theory, method and facts are all linked together in this process and partly overlap. A number of activities that precede the publication of a theory as well as come after are also explored. Background: Currently, the EMA method is not used to control the thickness of the layer of plastic applied to a metal platform using 3D printing, which significantly limits the scope of its use. However, EMA flaw detectors are widely used to control the quality of the metal platform itself. The solution of the problem of radiation research will allow carrying out complex control of the thickness of the layer of plastic applied by 3D printing, which will increase the efficiency of ultrasonic flaw detection in the reliability and speed of work. Objective: This article considers the possibility of determining the thickness of the layer applied by 3D printing using electromagnetic-acoustic (EMA) method. Methods: The analysis of the relationship between the thicknesses of the layer of plastic applied by 3D printing on the acoustic pressure created in it during the control using EMA transducers. The influence of the thickness of the plastic layer applied to the metal platform by means of 3D printing on the acoustic parameters of the EMA transducer was investigated with the help of mathematical modeling. Experimentally obtained dependences showing the influence of the thickness of the layer applied by 3D printing on the generated acoustic pressure. Results. The effect of the thickness of the plastic layer applied to a metal platform using 3D printing on the acoustic parameters of the EMA transducer is studied using mathematical modelling. Dependences showing the effect of the thickness of the plastic layer applied to the metal platform using 3D printing on the created acoustic pressure are obtained experimentally. The maximum acoustic pressure is created when there is no thickness of the plastic layer applied to the metal platform using 3D printing. The pressure drops sharply, as the layer thickness increases. Conclusions: Good convergence of the outcome of theoretical and experimental studies is demonstrated, with the approximation error of experimentally obtained data generally not exceeding 5%. The study is based on a widely proven approach to analyzing the process of acoustic wave formation by an EMA transducer. Pathology of the navicular can be a difficult entity to treat, particularly when the injury has progressed to osteonecrosis. While various nonoperative and operative modalities have been described, the emerging field of additive manufacturing has become a potential solution to this difficult problem in certain scenarios. While these implants have largely been used for fusion in the past, the concept of joint sparing with 3D printed implants is also emerging, and this case highlights a patient treated with a talonavicular joint-sparing, patient-specific 3D printed total navicular replacement. Photodetectors convert light into electrical signals and are crucial for scientific research and practical applications. Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) have emerged as a superior material for fabricating printable next-generation QD photodetectors, allowing facile fabrication, cost-effectiveness, and high flexibility. Their ability to detect a broad spectrum of signals, from high-energy to infrared signals, facilitates diverse technological applications, including medical imaging, security screening, environmental monitoring, and communication systems. Over recent years, a range of deposition techniques for printed QD-based photodetectors have been developed, covering a broad spectrum of photodetection applications. Significant efforts are being made to overcome the challenges associated with various deposition techniques, aiming to enhance the performance of QD-based photodetectors for specific spectra detection, therefore facilitating their practical deployment. This review aims to provide a clear understanding of the state-of-the-art developments in the field of printed QD-based photodetection in terms of the deposition techniques and different spectrum photodetectors. The review begins with the fundamental properties of colloidal QDs and their suitability for printable electronics. Subsequently, various deposition techniques and photodetector structures are explored, highlighting the advancements and applications of these QDs in broad-spectrum photon detection. Furthermore, we discuss the current challenges and potential solutions for the development of QD-based photodetectors. The findings and recommendations of this review are expected to inspire future research on printed QD-based photodetectors. In July 2020, while Palestinians were enduring lockdown and isolation to counter the COVID-19 pandemic, and health protocols hampered cultural institutions, the Palestinian Museum launched an online version of the exhibition "Printed in Jerusalem: Mustamloun," (Tubi'a fial-Quds: mustamlun judud),1 originally scheduled to open in spring 2020. Reviewers Tarteel Muammar and Hasan Safadi take the readers on a tour of the exhibition, which was curated by Baha Jubeh and Abdel-Rahman Shabane, and share their observations within their critical and analytical framework, on the relationship of "printing" to the social, political, and economic conditions in Jerusalem, linking it to censorship, and the status of the city of Jerusalem. They attempt to raise questions about the vast trove of materials, which include historical prints and two hundred printing clichés, and knowledge presented, to stimulate debate and to invite further research into this subject from various perspectives. Objective: To validate the use of a three-dimensional printing system for metric and volumetric analysis of the segments of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Materials and Methods: In patients scheduled to undergo endovascular AAA repair, the computed tomography angiography (CTA) measurements obtained during the preoperative assessment of the patients were compared with those obtained by computed tomography of individualized three-dimensional biomodels. Results: The volumetric assessment showed a discrepancy of 3-12%, and the difference between the areas was 10-16%. Conclusion: Computed tomography measurements of 3D-printed biomodels of AAAs appear to be comparable to those of threedimensional CTA measurements of the same AAAs, in terms of the metric and volumetric dimensions. Objetivo: Validar a aplicação do método de impressão tridimensional de biomodelos para aferição métrica e volumétrica de segmentos de aneurisma de aorta abdominal. Materiais e Métodos: Compararam-se as medidas obtidas por tomografia computadorizada dos biomodelos tridimensionais com as realizadas no planejamento pré-operatório de pacientes submetidos a correção endovascular de aneurisma de aorta abdominal. Nylon fibres are commonly used in blends with elastane. One of the problems encountered in the printing of nylon/elastane blend fabrics is the necessity of long steaming times for fixation, which causes an increase in energy consumption. In this study, the possibility of printing polyamide fabrics with 1:2 metal complex dyes for short steaming times was investigated. For this aim, laboratory and sample scale trials were performed to develop a method of chemically modifying fibres so that polyamide fabrics can be printed in short steaming times. Based on the results obtained in both trials, it was noticed that the steaming time for fixation could be reduced from 30 minutes to 15 minutes by printing with 1:2 metal complex dyes without causing a loss of printing yield and without affecting the fastness adversly in case of applying cationisation pretreatment with a modified quaternary polyalkylamine compound based product. To evaluate the surgical accuracy of a new Maxillary Bone-Dental-Supported guide (MBDS) for osteotomy and maxillary positioning in orthognathic surgeries. The customized MBDS were prototyped through CAD-CAM technology (computer-aided design and manufacturing). The planning image (CT0) was superimposed on the computed tomography scan post-treatment (CT1) and the mean of positional differences between them were obtained tridimensionally at the axes: mediolateral (X), anteroposterior (Y) and vertical (Z). Eleven patients were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The mediolateral movement showed the best precision, with a greater mean difference of 0.34 mm at the CI point (central incisor) and less than 0.02 mm at the RM point (right molar). In the vertical direction, the largest mean discrepancy found was 0.50 mm and on the y-axis, anteroposterior, was 0.74 mm, as well as two at the CI point. The skeletal SNA point, on the other hand, showed the smallest average discrepancies: 0.10 mm (x-axis), 0.03 mm (y-axis) and 0 mm (z-axis). Overall, 99.24% of the discrepancies found were less than 2 mm. Our results suggests that the double support, osseous and dental, present in that new guide, favored the positional stability of the maxilla and promoted better control of its vertical axis. Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly that can be difficult to detect and often remains undiagnosed. PAPVR is diagnosed using non-invasive imaging techniques such as echocardiography, CT, and MRI. Image data are reviewed on a 2-dimensional (D) monitor, which may not facilitate a good understanding of the complex 3D heart structure. In recent years, 3D printing technology, which allows the creation of physical cardiac models using source image datasets obtained from cardiac CT or MRI, has been increasingly used in the medical field. We report a case involving a 3D-printed model of PAPVR with a biatrial connection. This model demonstrated separate drainages of the right upper and middle pulmonary veins into the lower superior vena cava (SVC) and the junction between the SVC and the right atrium, respectively, with biatrial communication through the right middle pulmonary vein. With particular reference to Birmingham's printing industry, this article considers how machines and materials, crafts and skills, alongside working practices and specialist knowledge were transferred between the local printing industry and the many and various trades active in the region during the long eighteenth century. It demonstrates how the effect of place and space and the unique combination of skills and materials available in the town assisted in the technical progress of the printing industry and gave rise to specialist forms of printing, some of which are still active in the region today. The present research work is aimed at designing the woven velour printed terry fabrics with improved overall performance. The influence of pile height, pick density and pile count (one ply and two ply both) on the water absorbency of fabric has been studied. Thirty samples have been prepared by changing variables as per Box - Behnken design of experiments. These variables are optimised for achieving high quality woven velour printed terry fabrics. The findings show that the absorbency of these fabrics increases with the increase in pile height and pick density. The results are found true for both the fabrics having one ply and two ply pile yarns. The absorbency of the fabrics having two ply pile yarn is always higher as compared to fabric having one ply pile yarn. The absorbency behaviour of these fabrics is different from the looped woven terry fabric which clearly indicates the importance of loop geometry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Today, we understand the phrase "grapevine telegraph" to be a code word for the underground communication networks that connected slave communities in the South. But the term appeared repeatedly in Northern newspapers and soldiers' language during the Civil War as a derisive motif for the unreliability of Confederate news. Union soldiers took up this motif in the dozens of regimental and occupation newspapers they printed on abandoned Southern presses, deploying it to contest the meaning and interpretation of the "news" during the war. In printing their own humorous "grapevine" news, Union soldiers relied on their knowledge as printers and typographers to poke fun at and undermine the triumphant tones of the Confederate presses they seized as they marched through the South. Their labor as printers played a key role in controlling information in the South, as they harnessed the materials of the printing press to transform the fake news of the grapevine telegraph into news of Union occupation. Moreover, soldier-printers' typographic interventions and their identity and fraternity as typographical laborers revise the customary "Bohemian Brigade" image of the Civil War correspondent. The article focuses on the woodblock artist of Wynkyn de Worde's 1498 and 1529 editions of Sir Thomas Malory's Morte Darthur created the only known original series of woodcuts for an incunable. It mentions about the woodcuts shape and determine an audience response to the role of women in the printed text. It also mentions that response to women several times moves counter to contemporary and modern views of woman's role in the late Middle Ages.

The aim of this study was to compare the scapular kinematics and scapulohumeral rhythm of healthy participants during arm elevation and lowering and to find the difference between active motion and passive motion of the shoulder. The study examined the shoulders of 10 healthy men (mean age, 23.5 years; age range, 22-28 years). The shoulders of participants were elevated and lowered while fluoroscopic images were taken, and 3-dimensional bone models were created from 2-dimensional to 3-dimensional images using model registration techniques. The Euler angle sequences of the models' scapular kinematics and scapulohumeral rhythm were compared during active and passive shoulder motion. There was a significant statistical difference of upward rotation during arm elevation between active and passive shoulder movements (P =.027). In particular, the upward rotation between 45° and 90° of elevation showed a statistically significant difference (P <.001). When the scapula was tilted posteriorly by active motion, it resulted in a statistically significant difference as there was more tilting in the high-degree range of motions than when it was tilted by passive motion (P <.001). There was no statistically significant difference between the 2 groups in scapular external rotation. However, during arm lowering, scapular kinematics did not show statistically significant difference between active and passive motion. The scapular kinematics showed statistically significant differences between active and passive motion of upward rotation and posterior tilting of the scapula during arm elevation, but there were none during lowering. A type of cationic decolourising agent was prepared and applied to printing and dyeing wastewater treatment. The effects of the concentration of the decolourising agent, the pH value and stirring speed on decolourisation efficiency were studied. The results show that the optimum decolourisation process of the decolourising agent is determined as follows: at room temperature, a dosage of the decolourising agent of 7 mg/l, pH =7.0, and a stirring speed of 150 rpm. The decolourising agent applied to decolourise a direct dye, strong acid dye, weak acid dye and reactive dye in simulated wastewater showed high decolourisation efficiency in all cases. Global warming is one of the serious issue that the world is now facing and the main reason for this is environmental pollution, which is contributed by many industries throughout the world. Consumers today choose the product which is non-toxic both to the human health and the society. This tendency of eco-friendly product has been extended to textile products.
