Abstract—: The paper completes a series of works about the unique Schlema-Alberoda deposit. The data on sources of vein and ore minerals and their relation to the processes of regressive alteration of rocks from the contact metamorphism zone are refined. The correlation between stages of mineral formation and their directed change are shown. A general scheme for the sequences in formation stages of the deposit’s hydrothermal ores is oriented on a joint analysis of geological and mineralogical–geochemical evolution of potentially ore-bearing provinces.

Current research on Y2O3:Ho3+phosphors highlight their promising luminescence properties, but often lacks an environmentally friendly synthesis method and comprehensive analysis of their applications. In this study, we address these gaps by successfully synthesizing Y2O3:Ho3+phosphors using a green synthesis route with varying concentrations of Ho3+. Our work provides detailed characterization of their photoluminescence (PL) and thermoluminescent (TL) properties. The PL excitation (PLE) spectra reveal a distinct peak at 439 nm, attributed to the 5I8→(5K5; 5G5) transition of Ho3+ions. Upon excitation at 439 nm, the emission spectra show a sharp emission peak around 660 nm from the 5F5→5I8transition, with the 0.1 mol% Ho3+phosphors exhibiting particularly strong red emission, indicating their suitability for indoor plant cultivation under LED lighting. Additionally, TL properties were evaluated after gamma-ray exposure, with the highest emission intensity at 0.1 mol% Ho3+concentration. TL glow curves were analyzed for various radiation doses using the Computerized Glow Curve Deconvolution (CGCD) method, and TL trapping parameters were determined through Chen's peak shape and the Initial Rise methods. This work demonstrates significant potential for using these phosphors to enhance indoor plant growth and for applications in thermoluminescent dosimetry (TLD).

As a result of integrating geological, mineralogical, and geochemical data on the unique Schlema–Alberoda five-element uranium deposit situated in Federal Republic of Germany and explored in detail down to a depth of 2 km, it has been shown that its formation for more than 100 Ma has been caused by combination of internal and external factors. The latter comprise favorable metallogenic specialization of the region, injection of intrusive bodies bearing the necessary stock of energy, and periodic pulses of tectonic reactivation. The internal factors of self-development involve evolutionary processes, which occur in host rocks at the consecutive stages of prograde and retrograde metamorphism giving rise to alteration of rocks in consistence with physical and chemical laws at variable temperature and degree of system opening.

The paths of the movements of hydrothermal solutions are considered in the case of one of the world’s largest uranium vein deposits, the Schlema-Alberoda, which was mined by the Soviet-German corporation Wismut JSC in the second half of the 20th century. Detailed geological exploration to a depth of 2 km was accompanied by specialized research, the results of which have remained practically unpublished due to confidentiality. The data obtained show that the region adjoining the largest fault was draining rather than ore-conducting. This circumstance specifies and supplements the current concept concerning the movement of hydrothermal fluids.

To supplement the earlier identified European family of the highly homologous α-galactosidase MEL1–MEL11genes and the African family of the divergent MEL12–MEL14genes, a new MEL15gene was found in several Saccharomyces cerevisiaestrains isolated from maize dough in Ghana. Southern blotting and restriction enzyme analysis assigned the MEL15gene to the African family and mapped it to chromosomes IV/XII, which migrate together in electrophoresis. Tetrad analysis ruled out the MEL15location in the left arm of chromosome IV or the right arm of chromosome XII, which respectively contain the known MEL5and MEL10genes.

Partial genetic isolation of twoSaccharomyces bayanusvarieties, 5.bayanusvar.bayanusandS. bayanusvar.uvarumcomb, nov., was established by hybridological analysis. The hybrids of these two varieties were semisterile: their ascospores were characterized by low survival. Earlier, the new variety was described as a group of cryophilic wine yeast cultivars capable of fermenting melibiose.

Thirty-five yeast strains of the genusWilliopsis, analyzed by the polymerase chain reaction with the universal primer N21, were found to belong to two sibling species,W. saturnusandW. suaveolens. Such affiliation of the strains studied agrees well with the results of genetic and physiological investigations.

High resolution intravital videomicroscopy has provided a powerful tool for directly observing steps in the metastatic process, and for clarifying molecular mechanisms of metastasis and modes of action of anti-metastasis therapeutics. Cells previously have been identified in vivo using exogenously added fluorescent labels, limiting observations to a few cell divisions, or by natural markers (e.g. melanin) expressed only by specific cell types. Here we tested the utility of stable green fluorescent protein (GFP)-transfected cells for monitoring and quantifying sequential steps in the metastatic process. Using CHO-K1 cells that stably express GFP, we document the visualization and quantification by intravital videomicroscopy of sequential steps in metastasis within mouse liver, from initial arrest of cells in the microvasculature to the growth and angiogenesis of metastases. Individual, non-dividing cells, as well as micro- and macrometastases could clearly be detected and quantified, as could fine cellular details such as pseudopodial projections, even after extended periods of in vivo growth. We quantified the size distribution of micrometastases and their locations relative to the liver surface using 50 micrometer thick formalin-fixed tissue sections. The data suggest preferential growth and survival of micrometastases near the liver surface. Furthermore, we observed a small population of single cells that persisted over the 11 day observation period, which may represent dormant cells with potential for subsequent proliferation. This study demonstrates the advantages of GFP-expressing cells, coupled with real-time high resolution videomicroscopy, for long-term in vivo studies to visualize and quantify sequential steps of the metastatic process.

Abstract:  In order to study the molecular evolution of the yeasts grouped in the Saccharomyces sensu stricto species complex by analysis of the MEL gene family, we have cloned and sequenced two new species-specific MEL genes from Saccharomyces yeasts: S. paradoxus (MELp) and a Japanese Saccharomyces sp. (MELj). The clones were identified by sequence homology to the S. cerevisiae MEL1 gene. Both clones revealed an ORF of 1413 bp coding for a protein of 471 amino acids. The deduced molecular weights of the α-galactosidase enzymes were 52 767 for MELp and 52 378 for MELj. The nucleotide sequences of the MELp (EMBL accession no. X95505) and the MELj (EMBL accession no. X95506) genes showed 74.7% identity. The degree of identity of MELp to the MEL1 gene was 76.8% and to the S. pastorianus MELx gene, 75.7%. The MELj coding sequence was 75.1% identical to the MEL1 gene and 80.7% to the MELx gene. The data suggest that MEL1, MELj, MELp, and MELx genes are species-specific MEL genes. The strains studied each have only one MEL locus. The MELp gene is located on the S. paradoxus equivalent of S. cerevisiae chromosome X; the MELj gene was on the chromosome that comigrates with the S. cerevisiae chromosome VII/XV doublet and hybridizes to the S. cerevisiae chromosome XV marker HIS3.

Biochemical characteristics (enzyme activities, contents of vitamins, phytohormones, nucleic acids, proteins, saccharides, etc. ) in germinating seeds and developing seedlings are summarized, and the inhibitory and stimulatory actions of these compounds on plant growth and development are discussed.

Genetic and karyotypic studies of naturalSaccharomyces sensu stricto yeasts from Finland, Holland and Slovakia revealed three wild sibling-species:Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Saccaromyces bayanus andSaccharomyces paradoxus.

1.Analysis of the microstructure and fine structure of Fe-C-Si alloys with different concentrations of silicon and carbon makes it possible to determine the optical (for mechanical properties) silicon and carbon concentrations while retaining adequate corrosion resistance. We also measured the variation of the silicon ferrite lattice paramter with the concentrations of carbon and silicon.2.With 12–16% Si and 0.3–0.7% C the best combination of mechanical and casting properties is observed in alloys with carbon and silicon concentrations approaching the eutectic. Due to the absence of brittle metastable phase (silicon carbide), the mechanical properties of these alloys are 50–100% higher than those of alloys with silicon carbides.3.Annealing of alloys with silicon carbides at 900°C leads to their decomposition and increases the mechanical properties by 20–30%.
