8. Investigation of Strong Metallic Ta Reduction in ZrO2/Ta2O5 Multi-Laminate Layer Growth

Abstract

Thin ZrO2/Ta2O5 multi-laminate layer of ~10 nm was grown by atomic layer deposition (ALD) method and it was discussed about the metallic Ta reduction at the interface between ZrO2 and Ta2O5. Metallic Ta 4f7/2 peak was observed inside of the layer from the result of XPS analysis and it is thought that strong metallic Ta reduction was happened between Ta2O5 and as-coming Zr source (or ZrO2). Also, these results were supported by the Gibbs free energy calculations.

9. A method of multiobjective optimization using a genetic algorithm and an artificial immune system

Abstract

The immune system has pattern recognition capabilities based on reinforced learning, memory, and affinity maturation interacting between antigens (Ags) and antibodies (Abs). This article deals with an adaptation of artificial immune system (AIS) into genetic-algorithm (GA)-based multi-objective optimization. The present study utilizes the pattern recognition from an AIS and the evolution from a GA. Using affinity measures between Ags and Abs, GA-based immune simulation discovers a generalist Ab that represents the common pattern among Ags. Non-dominated Pareto-optimal solutions are obtained via GA-based immune simulation in which dominated designs are considered as Ags, whereas non-dominated designs are assigned to Abs. This article discusses the procedure of identifying Pareto-optimal solutions through the immune system-based pattern recognition. A number of mathematical function problems that are described by discontinuity or disconnection in the shape of Pareto surface are first examined as test examples. Subsequently, engineering optimization problems such as rotating flywheel disc and ten-bar planar truss are explored to support the present study.

10. Cytotoxicity of yellow sand in lung epithelial cells

Abstract

The present study was carried out to observe the cytotoxicity of yellow sand in comparison with silica and titanium dioxide in a rat alveolar type II cell line (RLE-6TN). Yellow sand (China Loess) was obtained from the loess layer in the Gunsu Province of China. The mean particle diameter of yellow sand was about 0003 ± 0.001 mm. Major elements of yellow sand were Si(27.7 ± 0.6%), Al(6.01± 0.17%), and Ca(5.83 ± 0.23%) in that order. Silica and yellow sand significantly decreased cell viability and increased [Ca2+]i. All three particles increased the generation of H2O2. TiO2 did not change Fenton activity, while silica induced a slight increase of Fenton activity. In contrast, yellow sand induced a significant increase of Fenton activity. Silica, yellow sand and TiO2induced significant nitrite formations in RLE-6TN cells. Silica showed the highest increase in nitrite formation, while yellow sand induced the least formation of nitrite. Silica and yellow sand increased the release of TNF-α. Based on these results, we suggest that yellow sand can induce cytotoxicity in RLE-6TN cells and reactive oxygen species, Fenton activity and reactive nitrogen species might be involved in this toxicity.

Abstract: We report on a high statistics study of π0 and η production in continuum events and in direct decays of the Γ(1S) and Γ(2S) resonances. The measured production rates per event are $$\left\langle {n_{\pi ^0 } } \right\rangle$$ =3.22 0.07 0.31 (3.97 0.23 0.38) and 〈n η〉=0.19 0.04 0.04 (0.40 0.14 0.09) for continuum events (direct Γ(1S) decays).

Abstract

The decay ofB mesons into the baryonsp, ? and?- has been studied. The measured inclusive branching ratios for these decays are Br(B?p X) =(8.2±0.5-1.0+1.3)%, Br(B??X)=(4.2±0.5±0.6)% and Br(B??-X)<0.51% at the 90% confidence level. In addition investigations onp ", and? " and? " correlations were performed, yielding an approximately equal rate of protons and neutrons. From this one can derive a total baryonic branching ratio Br(B?baryons) of (7.6±1.4)%.

Abstract

Two-photon production of the exclusive final statesp "+nπ (n=0, 1, 2, and 3) has been investigated using the ARGUS detector at thee+e− storage ring DORIS II at DESY. The reactionsγγ→p "π andγγ→p "π+π−π0 have been observed for the first time, as have theΔ++ and " baryons in the final statep "π+π−. No evidence was found forΔ++ " production. Topological cross sections for two-photon production ofp ",p "π0,p "π+π− andp "π+π−π0, as well as the crosssection forγγ→Δ++ "π+π−+c.c., have been measured. Upper limits are given for the cross section forγγ→Δ0 ",γγ→Δ++ " andγγ→Λ ".

Abstract

Using the ARGUS detector at the DORIS II storage ring we have searched for radiative decays Υ(1S)→γX, whereX decays into two oppositely charged pions, kaons, or protons. Upper limits on branching fractions are presented. In the π+π- invariant mass region 290–570 MeV/c2 the upper limit obtained varies from 3 to 4.5×10−5. These values are lower than the theoretical prediction of about 5×10−5 for Higgs production, which includes perturbative QCD radiative corrections to the Wilczek formula and the estimate Br(H0→π+π-), accounting for Higgs coupling to gluons via heavy quark loops. Previous experimental results do not exclude the existence of a standard minimal Higgs in this mass region.

Abstract

We have found the first evidence for the Cabibbo suppressed, color suppressed decay B → ψπ in a data sample of 4 million B decays obtained by the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR). The branching ratio is found to be (4.3±2.3)% of the Cabibbo allowed B → ψ K decay mode, which is consistent with theoretical expectations.

Abstract

The production cross sections for the ?, S0, ?-, S0 (1385), ?0 (1530) and O- hyperons have been measured, both in the continuum and in direct ? decays. Baryon rates in direct ? decays are enhanced by a factor of 2.5 or more compared to the continuum. Such a large baryon enhancement cannot be explained by standard fragmentation models. The strangeness suppression for baryons and mesons turns out to be the same. A strong suppression of spin 3/2 states is observed.

Abstract

We report a study of the decay t-?t-t+t-vt using the ARGUS detector at the DORIS II storage ring. Tau pairs were produced bye+e- annihilation at centre-of-mass energies near 10 GeV. We have observed about 1,700 events, corresponding to a branching ratio for t-?t-t+t-vt of (5.6±0.7)%. The dominant mode for this decay is observed to be?0p- in aJp=1+ spin state. The?0p- mass spectrum shows a broad enhancement near 1.10 GeV/c2, which has the properties expected for theA1.

Abstract

Cryogenically sensitive nuclear emulsion was placed inside the 15-foot bubble chamber of FNAL and exposed to a wide-band energy (up to 200 GeV) neutrino beam. 194 charged-current neutrino interactions and 13 decays of charmed particles were registered. Using the nuclear emulsion as a vertex detector with the good spectrometric properties of the 15-foot bubble chamber has allowed the decays of charmed particles to be effectively analysed. Attentions is focussed on the new physical results. ?c+ baryon andDs+ meson decay channels, production of charmed ?c baryons and ?c+ via ?c. For the first time an event interpreted as production of the excited (c ")-state with mass ~2790 MeV/c2 has been registered.

Abstract

Using the ARGUS detector at thee+e- storage ring DORIS II, we have investigated inclusive production of p±,K±,Ks0 and " in multihadron events at 9.98 GeV and in direct decays of the ?(1S) meson, i.e. from quark and gluon fragmentation. The most pronounced difference is the rate of baryon production. The Lund Monte Carlo program gives a reasonable qualitative description, although it cannot reproduce our data in detail.

Abstract

Using the ARGUS detector at DORIS II, we have determined the branching ratios for the decays τ−→K*−vτ and τ−→ρ−vτ to be (1.23 ±0.21−0.21+0.11)% and (21.5±0.4±1.9)%, respectively. These results are in agreement with theoretical expectations based on the standard model.

Abstract

We report on a high precision measurement of ϕ-meson production in continuum events and in direct decays of the Υ(1S)- and Υ(2S)-mesons. The ratio of the total production rate of ϕ-mesons in direct Υ(1S)- and Υ(2S)-decays over that in continuum events is 1.32±0.08±0.09 and 1.07±0.13±0.11 respectively. This is compatible with the corresponding ratio obtained for lighter mesons, but is appreciably smaller than the relative baryon production rate.

These factors are structured into a hierarchy for the application of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Computer software,Expert Choice, was used in model hierarchy development and judgmental elicitation process. The model result can be applicable to eliciting the perceptions, insights, and understanding of health-care decision-makers for strategic human resource planning.

Abstract

This paper presents the development of a goal programming (GP) model as an aid to strategic planning and allocation for limited human resources in a health-care organization. The purpose of this study is to assign the personnel to the proper shift hours that enable management to meet the objective of minimizing the total payroll costs while patients are satisfied. A GP model is illustrated using the data provided by a health-care organization in the midwest area. The goals are identified and prioritized. The model result is examined and a sensitivity analysis is performed to improve the model applicability. The GP model application adds insight to the planning functions of resource allocation in the health-care organizations. The proposed model is easily applicable to other human resource planning process.

Abstract

We report on the first observation of Δ(1232)++and Δ(1232)++¯baryons in e+e−annihilation at energies around 10 GeV, using the ARGUS detector at DORIS II. The sum of the rates of Δ++and Δ++¯per hadronic event in the continuum is measured to be 0.040±0.008±0.006, and the rate in direct ϒ(1S) decays is 0.124±0.016±0.015. The momentum spectrum of Δ++baryons in direct ϒ(1S) decays has been measured.

Abstract

An experiment has been performed with the Fermilab 30-inch bubble chamber and Downstream Particle Identifier to study inclusive charged pion production in the high energy interactions of p±,K+,p and " with thin foils of magnesium, silver and gold. The laboratory rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are presented separately for p+ and p- production. Comparisons are made with data from hadron-proton interactions and theA dependence of the cross sections in the different kinematic regions is discussed. We investigate the dependence of the cross sections on the number of observed protons ejected from the nucleus. By using our p-A data from two different beam energies, we study the energy dependence of these spectra. Comparisons are made with the VENUS string model Monte Carlo.

Abstract

The production of η-mesons in τ-decays has been studied with the ARGUS detector at the DORIS II storage ring. τ+τ− events were selected by their characteristic 1-versus-3 charged particle topology. The π+π− invariant mass distribution was used to search for evidence of η production in τ-decays. No signal was observed, leading to upper limits at 95% CL of Br(τ−→ηπ−π0vτ)<1.1%, Br(τ−→ηηπ−vτ)<0.8%, Br(τ−→ηηπ−π0vτ)<0.9% and Br(τ−→ηπ−π0π0vτ)<1.2%. A search for the decay τ−→ηπ−vτ, where the π0 from the decay η→π+π−π0 is also reconstructed, yield an upper limit at 95% CL of Br(τ−→ηπ−vτ)<0.9%. In addition, the inclusive value (1.65±0.3±0.2)% for Br(τ−→ωX−vτ) follows from this analysis.

Abstract

Using the ARGUS detector at DORIS, we have investigated the hadronic transitions of the Υ(2S) to the Υ(1S). The decays to Υ(1S)π+π−, Υ(1S)π0π0 and Υ(1S)η where the Υ(1S) subsequently decays intoe+e− and Υ(1S)η have been investigated. The transition via two charged pions has also been studied inclusively. We obtain branching ratios of the Υ(2S) into Υ(1S)π+π− of (18.1±0.5±1.0)%, into Υ(1S)π0π0 of (9.5±1.9±1.9)% and into Υ(1S)η of less than 0.5% with 90% confidence. From the exclusive events we find the leptonic branching ratios of the Υ(1S) to beBee=(2.42±0.14±0.14)% andBμμ=(2.30±0.25±0.13)%. Kinematical parameters of the two pion transitions have been investigated in detail and found to be consistent with current algebra and colour-field multipole expansion.

This paper presents procedures for battery testing for the diagnosis and monitoring of treatment of patients' bleeding disorders. Specifically, it describes the testing performance for a group of bleeding disorders, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). The value of three batterytesting procedures is examined by using a PERT technique, based on the clinical data obtained from the Saint Louis University Hospitals. The study reveals that a grouping of test procedures provides better patient care and improved utilization of clinical laboratory, while reducing the operational costs.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper deals with the development of the standardized disease classification system, which generates usable statistics for comprehensive health care planning. It is used by ARCH (a regional health planning agency) to obtain a measure of acute hospital utilization and regional health status. A sample of 35.000 patients discharged from 39 acute-care facilities in the St. Louis bistate region was examined and tested. The existing disease classification systems (three versions of ICD and SNDO) were converted into the standardized system. Its application results in a better conceptualization of current health problems. It aids in the formulation and monitoring of health problems.

39. A Hierarchical Goal-Programming Approach to Reverse Resource Allocation in Institutions of Higher Learning

Abstract

As universities react to severe financial pressures, there is a danger that too much emphasis will be placed on ‘balancing the budget’ at the expense of the academic goals of the institution. Therefore, the overall objective of this paper is to design and implement a model for reducing the operating budgets of the academic units of a university, while reflecting the diverse goals of the academic community. It recognizes that faculty, department chairmen and deans should share the responsibility of ‘reverse’ resource allocations or budget reductions. The model utilizes a goal-programming approach to reflect the multiple-phased model to allow for some degree of decentralization of decision making. The model is applied to a small private university. The solution to the model reveals the distribution of budget reductions among the schools and within the departments. A survey of potential users reveals a definite preference for the model results over the actual budget procedure.

40. A Horizon Sensitivity Simulation of a Multistage Linear Programming Aggregate Operations Model

Abstract

A firm that uses an aggregate operations planning model faces an important problem. Because it is multiperiod, solutions of a model with different horizon lengths can result in significantly different decisions, especially if aggregate shortages are allowed. This study illustrates methods of reducing the horizon length effects of a general linear programming model used by a plastic product manufacturer. As shown, that model originally had solutions of dubious value because of horizon effects. These effects were greatly reduced by eliminating aggregate shortages, but that precluded their use during peak seasonal demands. A more effective method was to penalize shortages during only the last period of a horizon. This improved the model's solutions without increasing its complexity, and also made it acceptable to responsible managers. Similar benefits should occur to users of analogous operations models which allow aggregate inventory shortages.

Abstract

Using the ARGUS detector at thee+e− storage ring DORIS II at DESY, we have studied the distribution of various topological quantities on the Υ(1S) resonance and in the nearby continuum. With the help of the second Fox-Wolfram moment we determine the two-jet contribution to direct Υ(1S) decays to be less than 5.3% with 95% confidence.

Abstract

We report the results of a search for monoenergetic photons in the decay of both theY(1S)- and theY(2S)-meson. Photons converted in the beam tube or the drift chamber inner wall, and photons detected with the barrel shower counters of the ARGUS detector, respectively, have been used in the analysis. No narrow peak is observed in the energy interval 0.5 GeV≦Ey≦4.0 GeV.

Abstract

Using the ARGUS detector at thee+e− storage ring DORIS-II, we have observed the decays of γ(9,460) andΥ'(10,023) into muon pairs. The ratio of the two observed rates determines Bμμ(γ') largely independent of acceptance uncertainties and absolute luminosity calibration, ifBμμ(γ) is known. From data with an integrated luminosity of 6.11/pb on the γ and 9.93/pb on the γ, using the present world averageBμμ(γ)=(2.9±0.2)%, we obtainBμμ(γ)=(1.57±0.59±0.68)%.

Abstract

Backward emitted protons with momentump>0.3 GeV/c in interactions of neutrino in the energy range 10–200 GeV with photoemulsion nuclei were investigated. Energy spectrum slope parameter of backward protons was measured to beT0=48.9±7.9 MeV. TheA-dependence power index of relative mean yield of backward protons was found to bea=0.68±0.12. A drop in the mean yield of backward protons at the four momentum squared over ~15 (GeV/c)2 (the neutrino energy over ~50 GeV) was observed.

49. Investigation of Strong Metallic Ta Reduction in ZrO2/Ta2O5Multi-Laminate Layer Growth

Abstract

Thin ZrO2/Ta2O5multi-laminate layer of ~10 nm was grown by atomic layer deposition (ALD) method and it was discussed about the metallic Ta reduction at the interface between ZrO2and Ta2O5. Metallic Ta 4f7/2peak was observed inside of the layer from the result of XPS analysis and it is thought that strong metallic Ta reduction was happened between Ta2O5and as-coming Zr source (or ZrO2). Also, these results were supported by the Gibbs free energy calculations.
