1. Analyzes of mealybug (Pseudococcus longispinus) virome reveal grapevine viruses diversity

Abstract: The long-tailed mealybug, Pseudococcus longispinus, is an important insect pest in grapevine growing areas in several countries, including Brazil. Metagenomic analysis of nucleic acids extracted from insect vectors makes it possible to study the diversity of insect viruses in addition to plant pathogenic viruses. In this study, insects (Ps. longispinus) were collected, and pooled throughout a plot of virus disease symptomatic vines, cultivated in growing beds, and analyzed by high throughput sequencing (HTS). The complete genome of grapevine leafroll-associated virus 2 and 3 (GLRaV-2 and -3) and a partial sequence of grapevine virus A (GVA) with two complete ORFs (coat protein and RNA-binding protein) were assembled from mealybug extracts and exhibited high nucleotide identities, up to 99%, with previously characterized homologous Brazilian isolates from grapevines. This information was validated by the detection of these viruses in the original symptomatic vines (N=76), from where mealybugs were collected, equivalent to an incidence of 34.2%, 89.5% and 36.8% for GLRaV-2, GLRaV-3 and GVA, respectively. Although one of these viruses is not transmitted by mealybugs (GLRaV-2), prospection of plant viruses infecting grapevine plants by analyzing the metagenome of insects could represent a relevant alternative to improve monitoring of viral diseases aiming at the management and control of viral diseases in vineyards or cultivation fields. This work is the first analysis of the Ps. longispinusvirome in Brazil focusing on grapevine viruses.

3. LIVING WITH THE MERCHANDISING RIGHT (OR HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE FREE-RIDING STORIES).

Abstract: Trademark scholars love to hate the merchandising right (i.e., the use of trademark law to give trademark owners control over product markets in which the trademark is the good--e.g., a BOSTON RED SOX baseball cap). We think that trademark law should protect consumer interests. If no one thinks that sports teams manufacture their own merchandise, then there's no possibility of source confusion. Rather than benefitting consumers, the merchandising right artificially increases consumer costs by giving trademark holders an unwarranted monopoly over the use of their marks as products. Nobody cares. Whatever law professors may think, people--and importantly, judges--generally believe that trademark holders should control merchandising markets. Hard-wired moral intuitions suggest that the resulting profits are a fair reward for creating popular brands and that others should not "free ride" off of these efforts. These intuitions are resistant to argument. We are therefore likely stuck with the merchandising right. Nonetheless, the merchandising right is inconsistent with fundamental trademark doctrine. Accommodating it creates difficulties that ripple throughout trademark law and reach cases that have nothing to do with merchandising logos. The problem is especially acute in those cases in which it is the trademark owner who is trying to capture an unearned benefit. These cases turn the intuitions behind the merchandising right on their head, but courts do not have a vocabulary for distinguishing them from "traditional" merchandising disputes. The result is a muddle that affects trademark law as a whole. We might ameliorate the problem by taking anti-free riding moral intuitions seriously. If they are to be part of trademark law, then they may be used to limit the merchandising right and reconcile it to trademark law. To be sure, living with the merchandising right is hardly an optimal result, but if the right is here to stay, we may as well contain its scope and craft a trademark doctrine that comports with the moral intuitions of the judges who implement it. Abstract: The concept of net-zero, climate-neutral buildings is attracting global attention, and it is widely recognised as a key solution for achieving climate neutrality targets in the construction sector. However, an increasing and confusing abundance of differing labels, definitions, and approaches is increasing worldwide. This article aims to chart the current progress of national net-zero building pathways and identify gaps and challenges that present a significant barrier to industry uptake and decarbonisation of the built environment worldwide. The national net-zero pathways include an analysis of building legislation, policy and voluntary frameworks in four selected countries, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States and Singapore, which are all leading regional actors in the race to zero and achieving a climate-neutral construction sector. Firstly, the study provides an overview of each country-specific context and motivation related to climate change adaptation and mitigation in the construction sector. Secondly, a review of the essential features from market-leading net-zero definitions, methodologies, schemes, and tools describing specific building approaches is conducted in each investigated country. Finally, based on the selected net-zero building case studies, the article presents the most promising design strategies for both embodied and operational environmental impact reductions, considering each specific climatic and country context. The research results indicated that the system boundaries for embodied and operational indicators (energy or GHG emissions) presented in investigated net-zero frameworks vary significantly. Consequently, there is an urgent need for a harmonised and transparent standardisation to provide coherence through performed life cycle assessments of buildings. In terms of the design strategies for achieving net-zero ambition according to the investigated frameworks, the common approach is the integration of the passive and active design strategies for operational energy or GHG emission reduction. However, it is evident that in some net-zero building examples, the consideration of the embodied environmental impacts and potential reduction strategies is missing because of not being included and mandatory in the national net-zero framework. This work is built upon the current body of knowledge on existing net-zero building frameworks and already constructed buildings and provides practical indications for building policy development and environmental impact reduction strategies in future climate-neutral, net-zero building projects. • A review of the net-zero building frameworks in Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States and Singapore is presented. • Examines design strategies for embodied and operational environmental impact reductions based on net-zero building cases. • System boundaries and compensation options vary significantly among analysed net-zero frameworks. • Integrating climate mitigation measures with resilience design strategies is missing in the current net-zero frameworks. 7. In vitro maturation of oocytes for fertility preservation: a comprehensive review

Abstract: The development of oncofertility over the past decade has renewed the interest in in vitro maturation (IVM) because of the specificity of some oncologic situations that may prevent the feasibility of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. Immature cumulus-oocyte complexes can be recovered from the small antral follicles in any phase of the menstrual cycle within a very short time frame, offering the possibility of vitrifying mature oocytes or embryos after IVM in urgent situations or when stimulation is contraindicated. Cumulus-oocyte complexes and immature oocytes can be harvested either transvaginally or directly in the laboratory from extracorporeal ovarian tissue. Although IVM is no longer considered experimental as a result of safety studies, it relies on the extremely complex process of oocyte maturation. Despite some live births obtained after IVM in the context of fertility preservation, the lower developmental competence of in vitro–matured oocytes demonstrates the need to improve IVM culture systems. Recent advances in IVM systems may improve oocyte competence after IVM, thus tending to reduce the gap between IVM and ovarian stimulation outcomes. Moreover, to optimize the chances of conception in cancer survivors, the combination of IVM and ovarian tissue cryopreservation is the preferred option when ovarian stimulation cannot be performed.

Abstract: AbstractMaternal nutrition is critical in mammalian development, influencing the epigenetic reprogramming of gametes, embryos, and fetal programming. We evaluated the effects of different levels of sulfur (S) and cobalt (Co) in the maternal diet throughout the pre- and periconceptional periods on the biochemical and reproductive parameters of the donors and the DNA methylome of the progeny in Bos indicuscattle. The low-S/Co group differed from the control with respect to homocysteine, folic acid, B12, insulin growth factor 1, and glucose. The oocyte yield was lower in heifers from the low S/Co group than that in the control heifers. Embryos from the low-S/Co group exhibited 2320 differentially methylated regions (DMRs) across the genome compared with the control embryos. We also characterized candidate DMRs linked to the DNMT1and DNMT3Bgenes in the blood and sperm cells of the adult progeny. A DMR located in DNMT1that was identified in embryos remained differentially methylated in the sperm of the progeny from the low-S/Co group. Therefore, we associated changes in specific compounds in the maternal diet with DNA methylation modifications in the progeny. Our results help to elucidate the impact of maternal nutrition on epigenetic reprogramming in livestock, opening new avenues of research to study the effect of disturbed epigenetic patterns in early life on health and fertility in adulthood. Considering that cattle are physiologically similar to humans with respect to gestational length, our study may serve as a model for studies related to the developmental origin of health and disease in humans.

Abstract: This study compared monophasic 100-μs pulses with high-frequency electroporation (HF-EP) bursts using an in vivo animal model. Myocardial damage was evaluated by histologic analysis. Compared with 10 monophasic pulses, 20 bursts of HF-EP at 100 and 150 kHz were associated with less damage. However, when the number of HF-EP bursts was increased to 60, myocardial damage was comparable to that of the monophasic group. HF-EP protocols were associated with attenuated collateral muscle contractions. This study shows that HF-EP is feasible and effective and that pulse frequency has a significant effect on extent of ablation.

Abstract: Actualmente, los avances en medicina y biología de la reproducción permiten ofrecer a las mujeres jóvenes que sufren una enfermedad neoplásica la esperanza de que algún día puedan quedar embarazadas a pesar de los tratamientos que deben recibir, a menudo gonadotóxicos. En efecto, las terapias contra el cáncer pueden afectar a la fertilidad femenina provocando insuficiencia ovárica prematura o, con menor frecuencia, hipogonadismo hipogonadótropo o afectación uterina. La vitrificación de ovocitos o de embriones, así como la criopreservación de tejido ovárico, idealmente realizadas antes de todo tratamiento gonadotóxico, permiten franquear el riesgo mutágeno. La consulta preconcepcional supone la mejor manera de informar a la pareja sobre los riesgos obstétricos que se asocian a la enfermedad inicial y a sus tratamientos. La planificación del embarazo siempre debe abordarse en estrecha colaboración con los equipos oncológicos. Según el tipo de cáncer y los tratamientos administrados, las complicaciones pueden diferir y ser objeto de tratamiento preventivo.

Abstract: Purpose: According to the Cognitive-Interpersonal Maintenance Model of anorexia nervosa, social factors are involved in the maintenance and development of this disorder. Therefore, this study aimed to test whether patients with restrictive-type anorexia nervosa (AN-R) experience malicious envy (negative emotions associated with the wish that others lack their superior quality), benign envy (negative emotions associated with the desire to reach and obtain the others’ superior quality) and Schadenfreude (pleasure at the misfortunes of others) with a higher intensity than healthy controls (HC). Methods: 26 AN-R patients and 32 HC completed scenarios that aimed to induce envy and Schadenfreude and completed questionnaires measuring envy, self-esteem and social comparison. Results: AN-R patients reported more benign envy than HC. Interestingly, higher body mass index (BMI) was associated with less Schadenfreude, malicious and benign envy in AN-R only. Conclusions: This study shows that AN-R patients present higher motivation to evolve when facing others’ superior quality (i.e., benign envy). It also underlines the importance of considering social factors in the maintenance of AN-R and the role of BMI when examining emotions related to others’ fortune. Abstract: Ces dernières décennies ont été marquées par l’augmentation de l’incidence du cancer du sein, y compris chez la femme jeune en âge de procréer. Les progrès diagnostiques et thérapeutiques considérables ont permis d’en réduire la mortalité, au prix de traitements potentiellement délétères pour la fonction de reproduction. De plus, la mise en différé d’un éventuel projet de grossesse réduit d’autant plus la fertilité des femmes jeunes guéries du cancer. Ainsi, il est actuellement recommandé que toutes les patientes devant recevoir un traitement potentiellement gonadotoxique soient informées des risques potentiels de la prise en charge du cancer sur leur fertilité ultérieure et sur les options de préservation de la fertilité (PF) disponibles. Ces techniques ont pour objectif de limiter l’impact négatif de la chimiothérapie sur les ovaires ou de préserver des gamètes avant l’initiation des traitements. Actuellement, la méthode de référence est la vitrification ovocytaire ou embryonnaire après stimulation de l’ovulation. De nouveaux protocoles de stimulation ont été développés qui permettent d’éviter une élévation de l’œstradiolémie et de s’affranchir de la phase du cycle. Quand celle-ci ne peut tout de même pas être mise en place, d’autres techniques comme la cryoconservation de tissu ovarien, la maturation in vitroou l’utilisation d’agoniste de la Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone(GnRH) peuvent être proposées. Cependant, il est primordial d’informer les patientes que ces techniques de PF ne représentent pas des garanties de grossesse.

22. Caregivers' perception of patients' interpersonal and psychiatric alterations: What is the impact on their health?

Abstract: Previous research conducted among caregivers of patients with cancer revealed a poor Quality of Life (QoL) and high levels of distress. In addition to the influence of patients' clinical state, caregivers' appraisals of patients' difficulties should be considered as another predictor of poor caregiver health. This study aims to test the association between caregivers' health (i.e., QoL, depression and anxiety) and their perception of patients' difficulties. 199 caregivers of patients with cancer completed an online survey based on questionnaires measuring their QoL, depression and anxiety, as well as their perception of patients' cognitive, emotional, functional, psychiatric and interpersonal difficulties. It was found that the appraisal of patients' impairments in all domains was mainly correlated with poor caregivers' QoL (Pearson correlations ranged from 0.14 to 0.45; p ≤.05). Furthermore, linear regression analyses showed that, after controlling for age, sex education level, professional activity and living with or without the patient, the appraisal of patients' interpersonal abilities (β = 0.25, p ≤.05), psychiatric difficulties (β = −0.25, p ≤.01) and living with the patient were the main predictors of caregivers' QoL. This study highlights the importance of better understanding the role of patients' social and psychiatric difficulties when examining caregivers' health. This indicates the importance of providing support and offering information to caregivers to alert them to the role of patients' social and psychiatric difficulties on their own health. Abstract: Modern systemic therapy has revolutionized the treatment of melanoma. Currently, patients with clinically involved lymph nodes require lymphadenectomy with associated morbidities. Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography (PET-CT) has demonstrated accuracy in melanoma detection and response to therapy. We aimed to identify whether a PET-CT directed lymphatic resection after systemic therapy is oncologically sound. Retrospective review of patients who underwent lymphadenectomy after systemic therapy for melanoma with a preoperative PET-CT. Examined demographic, clinical, and perioperative parameters including extent of disease, systemic therapy and response, and PET-CT findings compared to pathological outcomes. We compared patients with "as or less than expected" outcomes on pathology against those with "more than expected" pathological outcomes. Thirty-nine patients met inclusion criteria. In 28 (71.8%), pathological outcomes were "as or less than expected" by PET-CT, and in 11 (28.2%) pathological outcome were "more than expected". "More than expected" occurred more frequently with advanced disease at presentation with 75% presenting with regional/metastatic disease versus only 42.9% in the "as or less than expected" group (p = 0.015). Poor response to therapy also trended towards the "more than expected" group with only 27.3% favorable response versus 53.6% favorable response in the "as or less than expected" group, not statistically significant. Extent of disease on imaging failed to predict pathological concordance. PET-CT underestimates pathological extent of disease in the lymphatic basin in 30% of patients after systemic therapy. Abstract: Electrostatic interactions play important roles in the functional mechanisms exploited by intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). The atomic resolution description of long-range and local structural propensities that can both be crucial for the function of highly charged IDPs presents significant experimental challenges. Here, we investigate the conformational behavior of the δ subunit of RNA polymerase from Bacillus subtiliswhose unfolded domain is highly charged, with 7 positively charged amino acids followed by 51 acidic amino acids. Using a specifically designed analytical strategy, we identify transient contacts between the two regions using a combination of NMR paramagnetic relaxation enhancements, residual dipolar couplings (RDCs), chemical shifts, and small-angle scattering. This strategy allows the resolution of long-range and local ensemble averaged structural contributions to the experimental RDCs, and reveals that the negatively charged segment folds back onto the positively charged strand, compacting the conformational sampling of the protein while remaining highly flexible in solution. Mutation of the positively charged region abrogates the long-range contact, leaving the disordered domain in an extended conformation, possibly due to local repulsion of like-charges along the chain. Remarkably, in vitro studies show that this mutation also has a significant effect on transcription activity, and results in diminished cell fitness of the mutated bacteria in vivo. This study highlights the importance of accurately describing electrostatic interactions for understanding the functional mechanisms of IDPs.

Abstract: Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), known for its role during sexual differentiation, is a dimeric glycoprotein that belongs to the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) family. AMH has recently been identified as a reliable marker of ovarian reserve that can help predict early ovarian follicle loss and menopause onset. AMH levels also reflect the effects of damaging gynecologic surgeries or gonadotoxic treatments such as chemotherapy on ovarian reserve. Furthermore, AMH participates in the diagnosis of certain diseases such as granulosa cell tumors or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Currently used to establish patient profiles and predict ovarian response to stimulation, its role in ART techniques is crucial. Nevertheless, AMH appears to be a weak independent predictor of qualitative outcomes such as implantation, pregnancy, and live birth. As the reliability and reproducibility of AMH dosage have raised many doubts due to different existing standards and thresholds, an international consensus is still expected to improve AMH measurement and interpretation.

Abstract: AbstractObjective:To assess the cost-effectiveness (CE) of the originator follitropin-α(Gonal-F) in patients undergoing a medically assisted reproduction (MAR) program in comparison to its biosimilars Bemfola and Ovaleap in a French context.Methods:A CE model was developed for France with a National Health Service (NHS) perspective. Clinical, safety, and dosage data were derived from pivotal clinical trials that compared Gonal-F to Ovaleap and Bemfola. Costs pertaining to drugs, hospitalizations, specialist visits, and examinations were retrieved from the French Programme de Médicalisation des Systèmes d'Information (PMSI) hospital database, literature review, and French clinical experts using 2017 Euro tariffs. In order to test the robustness of results, deterministic one-way sensitivity analyses were carried out on the main variables to assess the impact of treatment cost, probability of birth, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) rates, and dosage.Results:The average incremental cost per live birth with OHSS and without OHSS was €259.56 and €278.39, respectively, for Gonal-F compared to the pooled biosimilars (i.e. Ovaleap and Bemfola). GONAL-F had an incremental efficacy of 0.06 over the pooled biosimilars. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio for Gonal-F with OHSS ranged from €3,274.80 to €4,877.76 compared to the pooled biosimilars, owing to the additional live births reported with Gonal-F. Sensitivity analyses also supported results from the base case analyses, with Gonal-F being cost-effective or the dominant strategy in most cases.Conclusion:Gonal-F seems to be a cost-effective strategy compared to its biosimilars Ovaleap and Bemfola, irrespective of the incidence of OHSS events, but further data are needed to confirm these results.

31. Imbalance between abstract and concrete repetitive thinking modes in schizophrenia.

Abstract: Objective Repetitive thoughts can be divided in two modes: abstract/analytic (decontextualized and dysfunctional) and concrete/experiential (problem-focused and adaptive). They constitute a transdiagnostic process involved in many psychopathological states but have received little attention in schizophrenia, as earlier studies only indexed increased ruminations (related to dysfunctional repetitive thoughts) without jointly exploring both modes. This study explored the two repetitive thinking modes, beyond ruminations, to determine their imbalance in schizophrenia. Methods Thirty stabilized patients with schizophrenia and 30 matched controls completed the Repetitive Response Scale and the Mini Cambridge-Exeter Repetitive Thought Scale, both measuring repetitive thinking modes. Complementary measures related to schizophrenic symptomatology, depression and anxiety were also conducted. Results Compared to controls, patients with schizophrenia presented an imbalance between repetitive thinking modes, with increased abstract/analytic and reduced concrete/experiential thoughts, even after controlling for comorbidities. Schizophrenia is associated with stronger dysfunctional repetitive thoughts (i.e. abstract thinking) and impaired ability to efficiently use repetitive thinking for current problem-solving (i.e. concrete thinking). Conclusion This imbalance confirms the double-faced nature of repetitive thinking modes, whose influence on schizophrenia's symptomatology should be further investigated. Abstract: This comparative non-interventional study using data from the French National Health Database (Système National des Données de Santé) investigated real-world (cumulative) live birth outcomes following ovarian stimulation, leading to oocyte pickup with either originator recombinant human follicle-stimulating hormone (r-hFSH) products (alfa or beta), r-hFSH alfa biosimilars, or urinaries including mainly HP-hMG (menotropins), and marginally u-hFSH-HP (urofollitropin). Using data from 245,534 stimulations (153,600 women), biosimilars resulted in a 19% lower live birth (adjusted odds ratio (OR) 0.81, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.76–0.86) and a 14% lower cumulative live birth (adjusted hazard ratio (HR) 0.86, 95% CI 0.82–0.89); and urinaries resulted in a 7% lower live birth (adjusted OR 0.93, 95% CI 0.90–0.96) and an 11% lower cumulative live birth (adjusted HR 0.89, 95% CI 0.87–0.91) versus originator r-hFSH alfa. Results were consistent across strata (age and ART strategy), sensitivity analysis using propensity score matching, and with r-hFSH alfa and beta as the reference group.

Abstract: Le surpoids et l’obésité ont vu leur prévalence augmenter dans la population féminine en âge de procréer et sont de plus en plus fréquents lors des consultations pour infertilité. Ils constituent un facteur non négligeable de baisse de la fertilité naturelle. La graisse abdominale par le biais de l’insulinorésistance, l’hyperinsulinisme et l’hyperandrogénie favorise sur un terrain prédisposé la survenue de troubles de l’ovulation. Le dépistage et la prise en charge du syndrome métabolique doit être systématique dans ce cadre. L’obtention d’une perte de poids même modérée suffit à améliorer l’ovulation spontanée ou l’efficacité des traitements inducteurs de l’ovulation. L’alimentation en ellemême affecte également l’ovulation. L’instauration d’un régime de type méditerranéen et d’une activité physique régulière sont des mesures simples à mettre en place. Elles doivent impérativement précéder la mise en route des thérapeutiques spécifiques et peuvent parfois suffire à elles-seules à l’obtention de la grossesse désirée. Un indice de masse corporelle bas est à l’inverse associé à un risque accru d’endométriose. Là aussi, l’alimentation peut jouer un rôle protecteur de cette pathologie. Chez les patientes ne présentant pas de troubles de l’ovulation, surpoids et obésité augmentent le délai nécessaire pour concevoir, diminuent les chances de succès des traitements et augmentent le risque de fausse couche. Là aussi, une alimentation de type méditerranéenne et la pratique d’une activité physique régulière sont associées à de meilleures chances de succès des traitements d’AMP. La prise en compte du style de vie et la correction des facteurs défavorables par des conseils appropriés ou une prise en charge spécifique devrait donc être systématique, tout comme la prescription d’acide folique, chez toute femme désirant concevoir un enfant. Overweight and obesity are increasingly prevalent in women of reproductive age, and are more and more frequent in patients consulting for infertility. Both are linked to a reduction of natural reproductive performance. Abdominal fat through insulin resistance, compensatory hyperinsulineamia and hyperandrogenism is responsible of ovulatory disorders in predisposed patients. Screening and management of metabolic syndrome must be systematically undertaken in anovulatory obese patients. A relatively small weight loss can restore spontaneous ovulation or improve the efficacy of ovulation induction treatment. Diet per se can also affect ovulatory function. A Mediterranean dietary regime and increased physical activity should be adopted as first line therapy. This simple approach has to precede the initiation of specific treatments and can be sufficient to obtain the expected pregnancy. A low body mass index is on the contrary associated with an increased risk of endometriosis. However, some dietary patterns are protective of the risk of this pathology. In patients without ovulatory disorders, overweight and obesity lengthen the time to pregnancy, decrease the likelihood of success of infertility treatment and increase the risk of miscarriage. Mediterranean dietary pattern and regular physical activity are linked as well to better chance of pregnancy following assisted reproductive treatment. Assessment of lifestyle and modification of unhealthy behavior by appropriate advice or specific management must be systematic, as is acid folic supplementation, in women willing to conceive.

37. Preserved Affective Sharing But Impaired Decoding of Contextual Complex Emotions in Alcohol Dependence

Abstract: Prior research has repeatedly shown that alcohol dependence is associated with a large range of impairments in psychological processes, which could lead to interpersonal deficits. Specifically, it has been suggested that these interpersonal difficulties are underpinned by reduced recognition and sharing of others’ emotional states. However, this pattern of deficits remains to be clarified. This study thus aimed to investigate whether alcohol dependence is associated with impaired abilities in decoding contextual complex emotions and with altered sharing of others’ emotions. Forty‐one alcohol‐dependent individuals (ADI) and 37 matched healthy individuals completed the Multifaceted Empathy Test, in which they were instructed to identify complex emotional states expressed by individuals in contextual scenes and to state to what extent they shared them. Compared to healthy individuals, ADI were impaired in identifying negative (Cohen's d= 0.75) and positive (Cohen's d= 0.46) emotional states but, conversely, presented preserved abilities in sharing others’ emotional states. This study shows that alcohol dependence is characterized by an impaired ability to decode complex emotional states (both positive and negative), despite the presence of complementary contextual cues, but by preserved emotion‐sharing. Therefore, these results extend earlier data describing an impaired ability to decode noncontextualized emotions toward contextualized and ecologically valid emotional states. They also indicate that some essential emotional competences such as emotion‐sharing are preserved in alcohol dependence, thereby offering potential therapeutic levers. Alcohol‐dependent individuals (ADI) are impaired for decoding others’ emotional states, which leads to interpersonal deficits. Our study aimed at exploring two remaining questions: are ADI able (1) to take advantage of contextual cues to improve their decoding abilities and (2) to share others’ emotions. The Multifaceted Empathy Test revealed that ADI are still impaired in identifying contextualized emotional states, but present preserved emotional sharing. Some key emotional abilities are thus preserved in alcohol‐dependence, and could be used as therapeutic levers.

Abstract: Un hecho notable de la última década es la preservación de la fertilidad femenina en el campo de la medicina y la biología de la reproducción, sobre todo gracias al control de la congelación de ovocitos y de tejido ovárico. Primero restringida a las mujeres jóvenes afectadas por patologías cancerosas que debían recibir tratamientos gonadotóxicos, se extendió a todas las enfermedades en las que su historia natural o sus tratamientos son capaces de alterar la fertilidad femenina. Hasta la fecha, la vitrificación de ovocitos y/o de embriones después de estimulación ovárica es el método que más se usa. La criopreservación de tejido ovárico y la extracción de ovocitos inmaduros para maduración in vitro es un método experimental. El concepto de preservación de la fertilidad femenina implica, además de la problemática de la competencia de los gametos y tejidos extraídos en contextos patológicos, diversos cuestionamientos éticos y morales.

Abstract: This present phytomedicinal study aims at both identifying the variety of the Croton cajucara lead molecule trans-dehydrocrotonin (DCTN), in all parts of 11/2 to 6 year old plants, and perform a general evaluation of its biological efficacy. In addition, the biochemical evaluation of trans-crotonin (CTN), trans-cajucarin B (t-CJC-B), cis-cajucarin B (c-CJC-B), acetyl aleuritolic acid (AAA), cajucarinolide (CJCR) and isocajucarinolide (ICJCR) were performed. The pharmacological action of bioactive extracts and semi-purified fractions of this Croton are discussed herein. The phytochemical investigation proved that only the stem bark of the mature plants (MP) is a rich source of DCTN (1.4% of dry bark), while 3- year-old plants contained only 0.26%. In young plants (YP) the triterpene AAA was the major component and in these the diterpene DCTN was not present. Phytochemical investigation of the C. cajucara stem bark yields AAA, CTN, DCTN, t-CJC-B, c-CJC-B, CJCR, ICJCR, trans-cajucarin A (t-CJC-A) and isosacacarin. In addition, the common metabolites 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-benzoic acid (vanilic acid), 4- hydroxy-benzoic acid and 2-methylamino-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid (N-methyltyrosine) were isolated. The structure elucidation of DCTN and CTN was revised using 600MHz NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectrum, confirming their original structure. Synthetic transformation of DCTN afforded great amount of semi-synthetic CTN, CJCR and ICJCR derivatives, which were submitted to pharmacological experiments. Among the pharmacological experiments, DCTN and CTN were studied for their in vivo antitumor activities on Ehrlich carcinoma and Sarcoma 180 (S-180), and in vivo release was evaluated. The in vitro antiproliferative effects of DCTN and CTN were determined on the cultured Ehrlich carcinoma cells. The cytotoxic effects of CJCR, ICJCR, t-CJC-B, c-CJC-B, a tea preparation, and a MeOH extract were evaluated for human K562 leukemia and Ehrlich carcinoma cells. The tea preparation was also studied for its hepatotoxic effects on the weight variations and glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) dosage in mice, in which GPT value variations revealed a dosage-response relation. The genotoxic action of DCTN was examined in Swiss mouse bone marrow cells in vivo, submitted to acute intraperitoneal treatment, by micronucleus (MN) and chromosomal aberration (CA) tests. Statistical analysis indicated that DCTN doses (50% and 75% of the LD50 via intraperitoneal or gavage treatments) were antimutagenic with regard to cyclophosphamide. The oral administration of DCTN and AAA (100 mg/kg) reduced gastrointestinal transit of mice and index of gastric mucosa damage (GMD) induced by cold stress. After pylorus ligature in rats, similar dose of DCTN decreased acid secretion and volume. These compounds (1 μM) also reduced the C-AP uptake induced by histamine (10-5 M); however, uniquely DCTN decreased the uptake induced by bethanechol. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dans le contexte de pathologies gynécologiques, où l’hyperestradiolémie induite peut être problématique, des protocoles de stimulation ovarienne spécifiques visant à réduire les taux sériques d’estradiol ont été développés. Abstract: Background Infantile myofibromatosis (IM) is a rare disorder of fibroblastic/myofibroblastic proliferation in children. Objectives We sought to document common and unusual characteristics of patients with IM. Methods This was a retrospective study of 28 children diagnosed with histopathologically confirmed IM between 1992 and 2012. Epidemiologic, clinical, and treatment data were reviewed. Results IM was more frequent in boys (60.8%). Skin lesions were congenital in 64.3% of cases. The solitary form accounted for 50% of cases. Most nodules were painless, arising in cutaneous or subcutaneous tissue. The multicentric form accounted for 39% of cases; the skin, subcutaneous tissue, or muscle was involved in 97.8% of cases, and the bones in 50% of cases. The generalized form had a mortality rate of 33% (one-third of cases). Multicentric and generalized forms regressed spontaneously; severe local complications were observed, and late recurrent nodules developed in a few cases. Limitations The retrospective review and the ascertainment of patients (from the departments of obstetrics and pediatrics) may have introduced bias in the analysis of severity of the different forms of IM. Conclusion The diagnosis of IM must be confirmed histopathologically because the clinical presentation can be misleading. The prognosis is usually good, although local morbidity can occur.
