Introduction: The study focused on examining the overall food environment influencing the dietary choices of school children in public primary schools in Morogoro Municipality. Four primary schools--Magadu, SUA, Mlimani, and Kikundi--were purposively sampled to represent the broader school landscape in the municipality. SUA and Mlimani were in urban and peri-urban areas, Magadu represented peri-urban settings, and Kikundi was in the town center. Data collection involved administering a structured questionnaire to 97 school childrenselected through convenient sampling based on their availability on the day of data collection. Results showed that most children were aware of healthy foods (62.9%) but demonstrated lower awareness of unhealthy foods (52.6%). Only 52% of children brought food from home, while the majority purchased items from vendors around the school premises. The most consumed junk foods included biscuits (83.5%), chips (75.3%), chocolates (74.2%), and fried buns (72.2%). Notably, school regulations or bylaws governing the sale of food to children were absent. Discussion: The findings suggested that children were more conscious of healthy foods than unhealthy options, possibly leading them to consume the latter unknowingly. The study emphasized the prevalence of unhealthy food consumption among school children and highlighted the absence of regulatory measures in place. Food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes is abundantly present in nature and accountable for sporadic and epidemic cases of listeriosis in humans. The objective of this study was to screen common food sources for L. monocytogenes using biochemical and molecular methods to detect and characterise its toxin genes as well as for biofilm formation. A total of 92 samples, comprising dairy and street food products, were randomly collected from various sources for this investigation. The collected samples were processed for biochemical and molecular methods to detect L. monocytogenes. Additionally, virulence factors associated genes, antibiogram profiles and biofilm formation related assays were determined. L. monocytogenes presence was confirmed using molecular detection methods targeting prs and lmo 1030 genes, along with MALDI-TOF MS. Following 16 S rRNA sequencing, the identified Listeria species were further categorised into two groups. L. monocytogenes was detected in two (2.17%) food samples tested (L-23 and L-74). Multiplex PCR indicated the presence of seven virulence-related genes in L. monocytogenes isolates, i.e., inl A, inl B, prf A, iap , act A, plc B, and hly A. In addition, 17 antibiotics were tested, whereby two isolates showed resistance to clindamycin and azithromycin, while one isolate (L-74) was also resistant to nalidixic acid, co-trimoxazole, ampicillin, norfloxacin, and cefotaxime. L-23 and L-74 isolates showed biofilm formation, especially at pH 8.6 and 37°C. Besides the demonstration of the presence of L. monocytogenes in some dairy and street food products, this study underscores the need to increase the standards of hygiene on the one hand and the importance of the surveillance of food-borne pathogens on the other. Nutritional anthropology is the study of human subsistence, diet and nutrition in comparative social and evolutionary perspective. Many factors influence the nutritional health and well-being of populations, including evolutionary, ecological, social, cultural and historical ones. Most usually, biocultural approaches are used in nutritional anthropology, incorporating methods and theory from social science as well as nutritional and evolutionary science. This review describes approaches used in the nutritional anthropology of past and present-day societies. Issues of concern for nutritional anthropology in the world now include: understanding how undernutrition and food insecurity are produced at local, regional and international levels; how food systems are constructed using social, biological and biocultural perspectives; and obesity from a biocultural viewpoint. By critiquing framings of present-day diet in an evolutionary context, nutritional anthropology asks 'what should be eaten?', rather than 'what can be eaten?', and 'how cheaply can people be fed?'. Licchavi kingdom was an ancient kingdom in Nepal, which existed in the Kathmandu Valley from approximately from ca. CE 300 to ca. 879. Centuries earlier at the start of the Buddhist era, a powerful republic known as Licchavi existed in what is today Bihar. It is to be mentioned here, some legendary sources from the Kathmandu Valley also describe the Kirātas as early rulers there, taken over from earlier Gopāls or Ᾱbhiras, both of whom may have been cow herding tribes. The food habit of ancient inhabitants of Nepal was very simple. Paddy was the most important food grain. Different kinds of fishes were available at that time. Pāniya-goṣṭhikās, Pranālī - goṣṭhikās were formed to supply water for various purposes. The preservation custom seems to be practiced from very ancient time. The oil press (Tailaśālā), copper smithies (Tāmrakuṭaśālā), Pharmaceutical laboratories (Ārogyśālā) and indigo processing workshops (Nīlīśālā) were given lands. This study aimed to identify consumers knowledge about the quality and safety of food products. The quality and safety of food are the main concern of consumers, so it is very important to know about the safety of food and the quality of food products to avoid serious problems that we can encounter from food products because the consequences of unsafe food bring great consequences and can be serious. Food safety is important as it helps protect the consumer from the risk of foodborne illness. One of the factors that influence the choice of a food product is the price as an element or determinant of a quality product. Knowing the importance of food safety and food product quality, such a study should be done first. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to identify consumers' knowledge about the quality and safety of food products. The methodology of this study is the quantitative method. The sample of the selection of participants was random, where the data of this paper were collected through direct interviewing by means of a structured (printed) questionnaire. The sample size consisted of 100 citizens of the Republic of Kosovo in 3 different cities (Prizren, Pristina, Ferizaj). The questionnaire consisted of two sections. The first section contained questions aimed at basic data on the respondents (age, gender, place of residence). The second section focused on citizens' perception of food quality and safety. These data were then analyzed and interpreted through the analysis method and the SPSS program. The results of this study show that a significant part of the respondents 35% think they have knowledge regarding the topic of food safety and 60% of the respondents think that the price plays a role in determining a quality product and being for sure. Purpose Cultural differences in complementary infant foods across countries and regions are unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the differences in guidelines and recommendations for complementary infant foods worldwide, especially focusing on foods that infants eat first and the order in which they are consumed. Methods Web questionnaires were sent to midwifery associations or nurses' associations in 166 countries that are members of the International Council of Midwives (ICM) or the International Council of Nursing (ICN). Midwives or nurses were asked about recommended foods for infants to eat first and recommendations for the order in which they should be eaten. For the analysis, we categorized the recommendations for complementary foods in each country, focusing on the order in which they were consumed. Chi-square test was used to analyze the differences in eating order classification and region. Results Responses were received from a total of 46 countries. Thirty-seven out of 46 countries, or 80.4%, responded that they had guidelines on complementary foods. Six patterns were found for complementary diets, including 2 patterns starting with grains and 3 with vegetables and patterns of parents' and infant-led diets. Grains were the most common starting pattern in Asia and Africa, while vegetables were the most common in Europe and America. Conclusion We believe that international nutritional intake and disease prevention guidelines should be considered as recommendations for complementary foods suitable for each country and region. Background: Food and nutrition insecurity continues to be one of the persistent challenges in Ethiopia. The country has been responding to the challenges in various ways to foster sustainable development. Objectives: The objective of the study is to assess national food and nutrition security policy and strategic responses. Method: A qualitative review of policies, strategies, programs, guidelines, and a government commitment, document was conducted. Interviews with experts from food and nutrition-implementing governmental and nongovernmental organizations were also employed. Thematic analysis with description was used. Results: The results of the study revealed that global initiatives stimulated Ethiopia to progressively take various strategic directions to address the ongoing food and nutrition challenges. In addition to various policy directions, the country has been implementing nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programs under the multisectoral approach. The concepts and practices of food and nutrition security shifted from simply balancing the demand and supply of food to a broader and more inclusive food system approach with the involvement of multiple actors. However, more has been said than done. The policy, strategic objectives, and initiatives have not been adequately translated into practices. Actions toward ensuring food and nutrition security, on the other hand, are constrained by institutional, environmental, technological, and emerging priorities like an outbreak of a pandemic and political instability. Conclusion: The study concluded that available policy and strategic intents have sufficiently addressed food and nutrition challenges in documents and need to be fully translated into practices. This comparative analysis looks at a range of songs from different tradition-bearers whose words have been recorded from the late nineteenth century into the twenty-first. HACCP is a systematic approach to the identification, evaluation, and control of food safety hazards. Hygiene of food refers to is the measures and conditions necessary to control the dangers (biological, chemical and physical) and to guarantee the specific character of the food. Human consumption of food taking into account the intended use and also is defined as a set of simple rules to help prevent food poisoning so that food can be consumed without in complete safety. The implementation of this system at the Student Cafeteria (University of Saida), has allowed us to retain some CCPs linked to microbiological risks at the preparation and distribution levels, as well as surfaces, materials, air and personnel. The results show non-compliance with hygiene practices for the premises, materials and equipment. The hygiene and behavior of staff during the preparation and the distribution of food was unsatisfactory. The storage conditions for raw foods were unacceptable. In order to guarantee student safety, we have proposed certain corrective measures to remedy any malfunctions. Employee awareness and training in food quality and safety is essential. In Jordan, the public is still unaware of the fate and impact of pesticide application. This study aimed to evaluate the attitudes, knowledge and practices of undergraduate students enrolled in various academic departments at the Faculty of Agriculture, Mutah University, Jordan toward pesticides' residues in food and feed. Students were questioned about their social aspects, and food and feed safety knowledge and resources. Responses have been obtained from 209 responding students. Results indicated that the cross-section through the Faculty of Agriculture, Mutah University, Jordan appears a satisfactory. The findings show that respondents are very highly concerned about human health, food safety, and the risk of environmental pollution, and they have a real desire to reduce the use of pesticides. Respondents had a moderate level of knowledge about food safety, pesticides' side effects, pesticides' residues in food or feed, and usage of pesticides in homes and gardens. According to the respondents, the most common way that people are exposed to pesticide residues is by consuming pesticide residues in food. The respondents expressed a moderate level of concern about their attitudes toward organic farming adoption. Correlations between demographic variables and knowledge of food and feed safety, involving a workshop on food/feed safety, care about human health as well as environmental pollution, and looking for information on food/feed safety were reported in the study. This paper studies an emergent sociocultural phenomenon involving the construction of Hanoi's old town as a signifier of taste, tradition and identity. Starting with the insights gotten from ethnographic observation and analysis, it then draws on local literary works to provide an account of narratives having been put together around the old Hanoi's superior cuisine, prestigious tradition, and noble identity. In light of the Bourdieusian thesis of taste and social distinction supported by further theoretical developments from the perspective of post-modern culinary consumption, it wraps up by discussing the impacts of these narratives on the commodification of food and foodways in the old town and the construction of contemporary Hanoian identity. The results show that this phenomenon embodies a yearning for sociohistorical belonging, an appeal for identity status enhancement, and an elevation of cultural nationalism in post-reform Hanoi. Protein-rich animal sourced foods play a crucial role in improving the quality of human health in Indonesia. This study aims to investigate the impact of price increases on consumption patterns and demand for animal source foods as a source of protein among households in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. Data from the 2021 National Socio-Economic Survey were utilised, and the Quadratic Almost Ideal Demand Systems (QUAIDS) model approach was employed to analyse the data. A sample of 3,227 households was used for the analysis. The results reveal that all animal source foods except for eggs are elastic, with beef exhibiting the highest elasticity of demand at 1.71, followed by fish (1.61), poultry (1.39), milk (1.32), and eggs (0.67). Beef and milk were found to be substitute goods, while fish and milk are complementary goods with poultry. Moreover, all animal source foods are identified as luxury goods with income elasticity of beef at 2.20, followed by milk (1.84), poultry (1.44), and fish (1.07). In contrast, eggs are a normal good with an income elasticity of 0.38. These findings suggest that rising prices and income significantly influence the consumption patterns and demand for animal source foods in Jakarta. To make animal source foods a normal good rather than a luxury item, income policies may be more effective than price policies for beef, poultry, and milk. On the other hand, price policies may be more effective than income policies for fish and eggs. These findings can provide important insights into strategies for improving the consumption patterns and demand for animal source foods as a source of protein in Jakarta, Indonesia. The need for underutilized leafy vegetables as food has been greatly emphasized owing to the increase in knowledge of the value of the essential nutrients they can provide. In this study, an assessment of the nutritional value of underutilized leafy vegetables collected in Southwestern Nigeria, and their content for mineral nutrients (K, Na, P, Ca, and Mg), essential vitamins (A, C, and E), and proximate composition was carried out on ten vegetables: Jatropha tanjorensis, Solanum nigrum, Talinum triangulare, Solanecio biafrae, Vernonia amygdalina, Crassocephalum crepidoides, Telfairea occidentalis, Amaranthus hydridus, Launaea taraxacifolia and Solanum macrocarpon. From this study, it was observed that the ten vegetables provide mineral concentrations exceeding 0.01%, essential vitamins exceeding 0.5%, ash exceeding 5%, moisture exceeding 5% of plant dry matter, crude fiber exceeding 10%, protein, crude fat exceeding 5%, and carbohydrate exceeding 30%. High levels of potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C, crude fat, and carbohydrates were noticed in Jatropha tanjorensis. High levels of both sodium and calcium were noticed in Solanecio biafrae. Amaranthus hydridus, Vernonia amygdalina, and Solanum nigrum were noted to be good sources of protein. The range of values of mineral nutrients, essential vitamins, proximate composition, and recommended dietary allowances of the studied leafy vegetables are very similar to those obtained in typical conventional edible leafy vegetables. The results therefore provide evidence that these underutilized leafy vegetables are well endowed with essential nutrients and could be important contributors to improving the nutritional content of humans. Induction heating has recently gained prominence as a preferred technology in industrial, medical, and household systems, owing to its superior advantages over traditional heating methods. The key to devising an energy-efficient methodology for heat treatment of food raw materials using an induction heated pasteurization tank lies in the effectiveness of the process automation system. Addressing the automation issue pertaining to a pasteurization induction unit, the authors explore the capabilities of AVR and ARM microcontrollers. These are employed to establish a comprehensive development environment for managing, constructing, testing, and deploying an embedded microcontroller application. Utilizing the Thonny development environment, Python programming language version 3 is implemented to write and execute programs on the Raspberry Pi microcomputer. This microcomputer is wielded to regulate the operation of the pasteurizer prototype and its various associated peripherals, including sensors that measure diverse milk pasteurization parameters. Throughout the operation of the unit, all components maintain communication with the controller. The control panel facilitates the management of the installation and renders data output. As a result of this study, a control program and algorithm were developed for a prototype of an induction-type installation, empowering control and surveillance of milk pasteurization processes. What lessons have we learned from the changing landscape of the food habitus in Okinawa? This study focuses on the narrative of a centenarian regarding his childhood memories of food. Food is closely related to the environment; hence, inhabitants internalize their environment through food habitus. Okinawa was famous for its longevity, but now, owing to globalization and Americanization, it has lost its prestigious status. Nostalgically remembering the past is not enough to create a sustainable future. We need to notice the importance of the present: the present will be the past when seen from the viewpoint of the future. With such transition of standpoint, the present food habitus should be viewed differently. Our centenarian's long life resulted from his life on the island. Islandness, or fudo in this study, supported his hundred years of life. However, repeating his life is impossible for us. We can look our past and future in order to observe our present differently. Food markets were a vital element in the economic life of Britain over many centuries, and the arrival of railways into urban spaces during the nineteenth century provided unprecedented opportunities for them to expand the range and volume of good that they sold. This article examines the impact of railways on these markets during the decades following the arrival of trains into London through a case study of Borough Market. This important London fruit and vegetable market is examined through the prism of its financial records. Detailed analysis of the Market's income produces a timeline for growth, while the records for the goods ported through the Market help to explain the change. The case study also highlights developments in trading techniques at Borough Market that enabled it to prosper during the second half of the nineteenth century, despite limitations placed on its expansion created by the impact of railways on the urban physical environment. Supplier evaluation has a crucial role in maintaining efficiency in the food industry supply chain. Machine learning approaches can be employed to formulate models aimed at analyzing and evaluating supplier performance. Previous research has successfully designed decision tree and neural network models for assessing suppliers in the food industry with accuracies of 84.2% and 92.8% separately. Recognizing the opportunity to improve the model's performance, this study aims to advancing the machine learning models accuracy for analyzing and evaluating suppliers in the food industry. Two main models are proposed to enhance model accuracy: ensemble methods and support vector machine. This research has successfully designed a supplier evaluation model and demonstrated that the ensemble method - gradient boosting model outperforms other ensemble methods and support vector machine which is achieved a accuracy of 93.6% on a cross-validation dataset. The development of a dashboard is required to implement the supplier evaluation model using machine learning, facilitating decision-makers in evaluating and controlling supplier performance. Polyphenol-rich foods have beneficial properties that may lower cardiometabolic risk. We aimed to prospectively investigate the relationship between intakes of dietary polyphenols, and metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components, in 676 Danish residents from the MAX study, a subcohort of the Danish Diet, Cancer and Health–Next Generations (DCH-NG) cohort. Dietary data were collected using web-based 24-h dietary recalls over one year (at baseline, and at 6 and 12 months). The Phenol-Explorer database was used to estimate dietary polyphenol intake. Clinical variables were also collected at the same time point. Generalized linear mixed models were used to investigate relationships between polyphenol intake and MetS. Participants had a mean age of 43.9y, a mean total polyphenol intake of 1368 mg/day, and 75 (11.6%) had MetS at baseline. Compared to individuals with MetS in Q1 and after adjusting for age, sex, lifestyle and dietary confounders, those in Q4 – for total polyphenols, flavonoids and phenolic acids–had a 50% [OR (95% CI): 0.50 (0.27, 0.91)], 51% [0.49 (0.26, 0.91)] and 45% [0.55 (0.30, 1.00)] lower odds of MetS, respectively. Higher total polyphenols, flavonoids and phenolic acids intakes as continuous variable were associated with lower risk for elevated systolic blood pressure (SBP) and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) (p < 0.05). Total polyphenol, flavonoid and phenolic acid intakes were associated with lower odds of MetS. These intakes were also consistently and significantly associated with a lower risk for higher SBP and lower HDL-c concentrations. • Dietary polyphenols have been associated with improved health outcomes. • Limited evidence on dietary polyphenols and cardiometabolic risk factors are available. • Prospective observational analysis, including data collection by three timepoints over 1 year of follow up. • Flavonoid and phenolic acid were associated with systolic blood pressure and HDL-c. • Dietary polyphenol intake might be a key dietary factor on metabolic syndrome. Geoffrey Chaucer's Pardoner's Prologue and Tale offers a rich case study of the dynamic materiality of food and its relation to literary practice. A particularly complex version of what Jane Bennett describes as "edible matter," spices challenge our assumptions about material passivity, both because of their well-documented allure and because of their charismatic but finally insubstantial quality as a foodstuff. Typically ground, sieved, and combined with other ingredients in such a way that their tangible material substance virtually disappeared, their presence was known only by the traces of flavor, aroma, and color that they imparted. Spices thus model a recombinative materiality that was attractive to Chaucer precisely because spice can do what rhetorical and literary language can do: it can color, it can add flavor, it can obscure, it can augment, it can make one thing appear to be another thing. Food is a central aspect of care in late life. This article focuses on the growing number of elderly Muslim immigrants in Denmark who on the basis of Service Act §94 can have a family member employed by the municipality as their "self-appointed helper." The task is often given to a spouse, daughter or daughter-in-law, whose task is then to provide the care services for which the elderly person has been referred. Usually this would be undertaken by professional care workers, but instead a close family member is employed to fulfil the tasks. Food and meals is an area of conflicts between the elderly citizens, their self-appointed helpers and the municipality, since they often have different approaches to and understandings of the aim, function and meanings of food and meals. It is the ambition of the so-called universal Scandinavian welfare state to treat all citizens equal. However, the ambition and efforts of municipal care managers (visitatorer) to create the same conditions and equal opportunities for all elderly citizens, paradoxically result in elderly Muslims immigrants (and their families), being further marginalized in Danish society. Our research addresses the link between the palatability of food and ethnic acceptance within dominant cultures. Specifically, we explore considerations of fusion Korean food in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. Within our exploration, our paper not only reveals how our four Korean chefs construct fusion Korean food, but how that construction has co-created the acceptability of Korean migrants within Aotearoa New Zealand's socio-culture. In these ways, our paper provides a unique insight into the politics of palatability, recognizing the key role that food plays in constructs of identity and social acceptance. Consequently, our paper's considerations of fusion Korean food provide a template of understanding for other ethnic groups seeking recognition and acceptance within a dominant socio-culture. The problem of environmental pollution with plastic is becoming more and more acute every year. Due to the low rate of decomposition of plastic, its particles get into food and harm the human body. This chapter focuses on the potential risks and toxicological effects of both nano and microplastics on human health. The main places of distribution of various toxicants along with the food chain have been established. The effects of some examples of the main sources of micro/nanoplastics on the human body are also emphasised. The processes of entry and accumulation of micro/nanoplastics are described, and the mechanism of accumulation that occurs inside the body is briefly explained. The article locates the caste-spaces in India through the sensoriality of smell emitted by food in different gastronomical zones and its influence on the socio-political condition of Dalit women. It focuses on the embedded olfactory value of food to inform the contested nature of the Indian caste system and enables an understanding of the gendered aspect of the caste-spaces. By examining caste as spatial, sensorial and corporeal, the article confronts the crucial gaps in caste and food studies by deconstructing the order and odour of foodways in U.R. Ananthamurthy's Samskara (1976) and Urmila Pawar's The Weave of My Life: A Dalit Woman's Memoirs (2008). While critiquing the caste system narrative, the selected texts map different olfactory zones in intercultural culinary landscapes. The article argues how the caste society is built on the gastronomic idea of 'we are/smell what we eat' by mapping the ways in which the two texts explore the physical and sensorial consumption of food in different socio-cultural spaces. It is argued that gendered meanings around smell are invariably connected to the caste system, and that Dalit women's relationships to food and smells should be foregrounded in the olfactory politics of caste. The article traces the ways in which smellscapes highlighted in the selected texts create invisible boundaries of spatial and moral stratification (order) through the invisible medium of smell (odour). It also situates the praxis of deodorisation as a tool of dissent by Dalits, and especially Dalit women. The article raises critical inquiry into how the olfactory effect of food is not just a chemical by-product, but rather a symbolic agent which can work both to oppress − through spatial and corporeal discourses − or be opened up to rigorous inquiry. Throughout history, social relationships surrounding food have traditionally been divided along gender lines. That the food chain is gendered from kernel to platter is therefore probably to repeat a truism. Afterall, the most fundamental form of care, providing food, is still mostly carried out by women in the majority of societies today. In addition, despite having a duty to feed others, women may in many geo-political locations frequently fail to do so providing for their own needs. In this perspective, I consider gender and food related-relationships by exploring gender dynamics in the modern agrifood system. Firstly, I investigate the relationship between food and women's subjugation and the sublimation of feminist consciousness. Secondly, I ask, how gender relations related to food are configured in the context of three categories of food − material, socio-cultural, and corporeal − that characterise women's interactions with food (Allen & Sachs 2007). In each of these areas, gender is expressed in ways that I argue reflect women's social disadvantage. Linkages between women's work with food in the fields and labour market, their responsibilities for food provision in the care economy, and relationship with eating are explored. It is argued that these are integral to the field of food studies and research which has tended to ignore the normalisation of 'women's work', undervalued domestic reproductive and productive labour. Integrating feminist studies with political economy can provide food studies with a theoretical framework that is able to throw light on some of the critical elements that shape gender relations in the agrifood system. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of current evidence for the association between food groups, dietary patterns, and breast cancer risk among the Asian population. This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We performed a systematic literature search up to December 2022 in English in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane databases. Risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were extracted as effect sizes. Publication bias was estimated by two different funnel plot methods. We collected the data from 15 cohort studies and 34 case−control studies meeting the search criteria. The meta-analysis found that the consumption of fruits and, likewise, vegetables were associated with a 29% lower risk of breast cancer, respectively [RR = 0.71 (0.55, 0.93); RR = 0.71 (0.53, 0.95)]. By contrast, no significance was found between meat, soy foods, and green tea consumption and breast cancer risk (P > 0.05). However, soy protein and isoflavone intake could lower breast cancer risk by 35% and 32%, respectively [RR = 0.65 (0.51, 0.83); RR = 0.68 (0.55, 0.82)]. As for the dietary pattern, high adherence to a healthy dietary pattern and, similarly, to a healthy eating index was associated with a 38% and 51% reduction in breast cancer risk, respectively [RR = 0.62 (0.44, 0.88; RR = 0.49 (0.27, 0.87)], while high adherence to an unhealthy dietary pattern was associated with a 44% increased risk [RR = 1.44 (1.06, 1.96)]. Considering alcohol consumption, a 75% increased risk of breast cancer was found [RR = 1.75 (1.33, 2.30)]. The present meta-analysis found that high intakes of fruits, vegetables, soy protein, and soy isoflavone significantly reduced the risk of breast cancer, while high intake of alcohol had a significantly increased risk. Meat, soy food, and green tea consumption were not significantly associated with breast cancer risk. Considering dietary patterns, high adherence to a healthy eating index and a healthy dietary pattern may reduce breast cancer risk. Conversely, adherence to unhealthy dietary patterns may increase breast cancer risk. However, further studies are needed to confirm the associations between dietary patterns and breast cancer in the Asian population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many brands, including food brands, draw on connotations of luxury to elevate the favorability of consumer perceptions. This is often undertaken using cues in marketing communications; however, no research has examined the psychophysiological effect of luxury cues on consumer attention. Evidently, this study is the first experiment to use eye-tracking and skin conductance analysis to investigate how luxury cues in marketing communications can influence consumer perceptions of a food product. Our findings demonstrate that the use of luxury verbal cues can significantly enhance the attention to hedonic processing and elevate food brand perceptions. Specifically, consumers pay greater attention to the imagery of marketing communications when exposed to luxury verbal cues, which, in turn, enhance arousal and positive brand evaluations. Our research provides valuable theoretical and managerial implications for food brands using communications such as content marketing and advertising to build favorable brand connotations and elevate brand positioning.
