This paper examines how Nobel laureates' academic backgrounds relate to their economic contributions. The study covers laureates in Economics from 1969 to 2023 and reveals that 49% of laureates studied Economics at the undergraduate level, while the remaining 51% pursued other sciences. Moreover, 79% of laureates obtained their doctoral degrees in Economics and 21% in other sciences. The data also includes a breakdown of laureates' primary contributions in various fields of Economics, with the majority contributing to Macroeconomics (29%), followed by Microeconomics (15%) and Finance (14%), New Methods of Economic Analysis (19%), and General Equilibrium Theory (6%). The results further demonstrate that 17% of laureates have contributed to interdisciplinary research, establishing links between Economics and other sciences such as Psychology, History, Sociology, Philosophy, Politics, Law, and Organizational Sciences. Although Emsi and other market researchers have found that employers desire durable skills (formerly known as "soft skills") in new hires, there have been few studies dedicated to identifying how faculty perceptions of skill development differ in degree and by area, and how that might impact how such skills are embedded in classroom instruction. This study proposes to investigate the perceptions of faculty from different academic backgrounds and how their disciplines and experiences may contribute to their perceived role in curricular, cocurricular or extracurricular offerings that support durable skill development. Results from the study demonstrate the differing perspectives and expectations of faculty with regards to developing durable skills. Faculty primarily pointed to experiences outside of the classroom to develop and reinforce these skills, including internships, volunteering, student life--athletics and student clubs. Tourism academics are institutionalised to enhance values determined to be of benefit to some greater good, and to play their assigned roles in both conscious and unconscious ways. Many find themselves in different faculties, colleges, and schools, doing their jobs based on values determined by their institutional belonging, but also based on their personal beliefs, and educational backgrounds. This interplay of academic roles is important because it creates worlds, real and imagined, that students, colleagues, and community members build theirs from. Worlds are made and evaluated quite naturally, they form and are formed by the academics' values in interplay with the values of their contexts. Each tourism academic should therefore ask themselves: Why is tourism taught? This question might highlight vulnerabilities and viabilities of tourism studies. This article presents an investigation of tourism degrees offered at universities in the five Nordic countries. The data exposes what values dominate tourism education, but the significance of the argument in this paper arises from the theoretical framework, which is an axiological development of Jafar Jafari's original Platforms model and its later adaptions. The traditional educational systems in certain nations, such as those in the Arab world, use the previous year's scores to forecast academic achievement. Meanwhile, the science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) educational system also considers the student's talents and interests, in addition to their test results, for each of the years of study used to forecast academic achievement. However, despite the numerous variables that could potentially impact a student's future profession, the STEAM educational system accurately predicts the academic achievement of students in five to seven broad majors. A smart model, data, generative, factors (DGF), has been proposed to assign a specific major for each student based on their academic background, interests, skills, and main influencing factors. The DGF model uses the supervised deep neural network and is trained by the generative adversarial network (GAN) algorithm. The DGF model has the capability to predict a specific major among 17 different majors for every student, with a high learning performance (1.4133), a plausible error rate (0.0046), a rational number of learning epochs (206), and an optimal accuracy of 99.99%. Community colleges are increasingly important in the postsecondary landscape as close to twenty states have enacted free community college plans to help alleviate rising college costs. I analyze the effect of community college enrollment on bachelor's degree attainment among United States students, utilizing propensity score matching to address bias. Relative to students who started at open access four-year colleges, those who started at community colleges were 10% less likely to earn a bachelor's degree. Further, the community college penalty disproportionately impacts upper middle-income students, Hispanics, and students with weaker academic backgrounds, thus widening the attainment gap among some demographics. Purpose: This article investigates the influence of entrepreneurship education, self-efficacy, and educational background on the entrepreneurial intentions of vocational high school students in Indonesia. This article examines the moderating influence of institutional support on the relationship between entrepreneurship education, educational background, and entrepreneurial intentions of vocational high school students in Indonesia. Design / methodology / approach: The primary data from the final-year students was collected through the utilisation of survey questionnaires in the article. The study utilised the SPSS-AMOS software to assess the reliability of the data and examine the relationships between the variables. Findings: The results of the study demonstrate a positive correlation between entrepreneurship education, self-efficacy, and educational background with the entrepreneurial intentions of vocational high school students in Indonesia. The findings also revealed that the presence of institutional support plays a significant moderating role in the relationship between entrepreneurship education, educational background, and entrepreneurial intentions among vocational high school students in Indonesia. Research limitations/implications: The study provides guidance to regulatory bodies in developing regulations that aim to promote entrepreneurial intention through the implementation of effective entrepreneurship education, fostering self-efficacy, and emphasising a robust educational foundation. Originality/value: The cultivation of an entrepreneurial mindset has emerged as a crucial factor in the development of students' ability to compete in the market. Loss of a loved one is deeply emotional. This obituary paper is about Professor Gregory G. Maskarinec (May 16, 1951-June 16, 2022), a true friend, an academic intellectual and an honest researcher of medical anthropology. Working with him and sharing ideas with open mind was a great opportunity for me and many scholars in Nepal. Based on collaborative work, interaction and the interview with Professor Gregory, in his remembrance, I have highlighted his academic background and work experiences, friendship and collaborative work, my privilege and opportunities to write about him for his professorship and some of the dreams that could not happen due to his sudden demise. The most important challenge of modern society is quality education| sound academic background. The present study is part of an exploratory research study conducted to understand the Learning experiences of adult learners in Higher Education Institutes in India. The primary aim of the present study was to examine the motivational orientations of adult learners for lifelong educational courses and hence, the Educational Participation Scale (EPS) by Boshier was used to examine the motivational orientations among adult learners enrolled in selected lifelong courses. In total, seven motivational factors were identified among the adult learners to enrol in the Programmes: Communication skills and Social contact, Professional advancement, Intellectual recreation, Cognitive interest, Family Togetherness, Children Relationship and Educational Compensation. Age, gender, type of course and educational background had varying influences on the motivational orientation of the adult learners. Though professional advancement was found to be higher, Communication skills, social contact and family togetherness was found to be significantly higher among older research participants aged 50 years and above. Objective Isochronous substitution model was adopted to simulate different physical activities and sedentary behavior (SB) to examine the changes of cognitive function of the elderly. Methods 308 elderly people in Nanjing were selected by multi-stage and hierarchical sampling method. The time of SB, light physical activity (LPA) and moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) were measured by three-dimensional accelerometer. The cognitive function was measured by Montreal Cognitive Scale (MoCA). The isochronous substitution model was used to evaluate the relationships between SB, LPA and MVPA and cognitive function. Results ① After controlling age, educational background and wearing time, a positive correlation was found between physical activity and cognitive function. ② After 30-minute LPA isochronous substitution for SB, the computing ability of the elderly (β=0.080), directional ability (β=0.077) increased significantly (P<0.05). ③ After 30-minute MVPA isochronous substitution for SB, the performance function of the elderly (β=0.389), memory (β=0.611), attention (β=0.123), computing power (β=0.085), language ability (β=0.250), abstraction ability (β=0.168) and directional ability (β=0.080) were all significantly increased (P<0.01), otherwise it was decreased. ④ With the time increase of MVPA substitution for SB, the cognitive function increased rapidly; on the contrary, it decreased slowly. With the time increase of MVPA substitution for LPA, the cognitive function increased slowly; on the contrary, it decreased rapidly. Conclusion ① 30-minute LPA or MVPA substitution for SB can improve the cognitive function of the elderly in varying degrees. ② 30-minute MVPA isochronous substitution for LPA can also improve the cognitive function of the elderly. ③ With LPA substitution for SB, the cognitive function increases slowly; on the contrary, it decreases slowly. BACKGROUND Research shows that children's social background influences the extent to which they experience educational disadvantages when their parents separate. However, while some studies find larger separation penalties for children from lower social backgrounds than for children from higher backgrounds, other studies find the opposite. The present study builds on this research by examining heterogeneous parental separation effects by parental education for lower (mid-secondary) and higher (higher-secondary) educational thresholds. METHODS Analyses are based on a sample of children (and their siblings) born in the 1970s and 1960s (N = 6,855 children), drawn from the German Life History Study. A series of linear probability models are estimated; additional analyses include sibling-fixed-effects models. RESULTS No separation disadvantages for children from higher status backgrounds were found, for either outcome. Children from lower educational backgrounds had fewer chances of completing mid-secondary education; this was true to a lesser extent for higher-secondary education. Sibling fixed effects show the same pattern but also indicate that results may be partly due to unobserved family characteristics. CONTRIBUTION The findings of this study support the compensation perspective. In a context of high educational inequality and high socioeconomic disparities between children who experience parental separation and those who do not, children from lower educational backgrounds face the risk of not reaching mid-secondary and to a lesser extent highersecondary education if their parents separate. The shift from contact to online classes as universities sought to ensure continuity in its academic enterprise not only happened within a context of uncertainties, hesitancy, and contestations but it had huge implications on pedagogic access and educational success for students from disadvantaged academic and social backgrounds. This article uses an ethnographic approach that draws from a combination of personal interactions with 24 participants who included 12 extended students, 4 parents, 4 academic and 4 administrative staff drawn from two South African universities, one of them in an urban and the other in a rural setting. Two key objectives feature in the article, that is how students in the extended curriculum programme have experienced online pedagogies and with what effects on their academic access and success. The article's key findings highlight how through inclusive pedagogies with a holistic focus, the influences of societal and university ethos together with teacher competencies and other features become central when exploring pedagogic access and access nuances that confront students particularly the extended students within a setting featuring disruptions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The article further makes a case for the relevant pedagogies that can be adopted for dealing with student success issues especially under periods of disruptions. The article further highlights ways in which the move to online pedagogies has not just threatened the success of these students but the very foundations of the extended curriculum programme which aims at addressing issues of student exclusion and success. The article concludes that while the experiences of the extended students represent a microcosm of the broader challenges faced by university students in general, there is evidence that successful inclusive models are those that are holistic with a focus on addressing diverse issues associated with university teaching and learning especially when untested online pedagogies are adopted. The research theme is to measure the importance of educational background of the healthcare buyers who are not necessarily the patient but include guardians, employers, health insurer etc. in decision making for the selection of health care service providers. The study adopted the concept of 7 Ps of services marketing as product, price, place, promotion, people, process, and physical evidence with respect to the influence of educational background as the selection criteria. SWOT analysis based on the opinion collected through the interview presented as Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threats was carried on, and it is also a way to see how to improve and develop. The study is conducted in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, as it is the land of deprived society for healthcare services. Due to an exponential increase in the use of Internet by persons from different countries and educational backgrounds, the offensive online language detection has become a significant task facing natural language processing. Considering the major negative impact of this type of content in the case of youngers, detecting online toxic language to protect users' online safety becomes an urgent issue. The project has two main goals: (1) developing an annotated corpus of offensive content for Romanian language and (2) testing various machine learning algorithms to identify a best approach. Data was gathered with semi-structured questionnaires from 492 charcoal producers in three rural communities (Adaprase, Komfourkrom, and Papaase) in the Bono East Region of Ghana. This study assesses the demographics of charcoal producers, species used for charcoal, and how producers intend to sustain the charcoal industry in terms of acquisition of wood resources/raw materials. Seven major species, namely Vitellaria paradoxa (Shea tree), Anogeissus leiocarpus (Kane), Pterocarpus erinaceus (Krayie), Erythrophleum ivorense (Potrodom), Afzelia africana (Papao), Parkia biglobosa (Sorono), and Daniella oliveri (Senya) were identified for charcoal production. Among these species, Shea tree was ranked first in exploitation and used by about 80% of the entire population of charcoal producers in the researched communities and puts the future of this species at risk if no intervention. Meanwhile, shea tree has been identified as a very high economic value in Ghana. In addition, people with various genders, educational backgrounds, and occupations were engaged in charcoal production, but most of them were male and between the ages of 15–47. Most charcoal producers intend to establish plantations to sustain the industry while others believe in natural regeneration of species. The charcoal industry serves as a major source of income for over 90% of the inhabitants in these communities and is it therefore not recommend-able to close the industry but incorporate interventions towards sustainability. Understanding values of coastal areas that the public hold, and which values would potentially be impacted by non-indigenous marine species (NIMS) and subsequent management actions, are necessary to predict social responses to marine biosecurity interventions. With that in mind, we used survey data from a representative sample of the New Zealand population (n = 1001) to spatially identify the public's values of coastal areas, and societal 'hotspots', which are either value-rich or vulnerable to the impacts of NIMS and/or management actions, and examined socio-demographic patterns in the public's valuation of beaches and coastal areas. We used three different value categorisations to capture the large spectrum of public values in this dynamic context. Three value indices (i.e., intensity, richness, and diversity of values) were adopted for each categorisation. Our findings highlight the highly multidimensional characteristics of the values people held for marine and coastal areas; a large part of which were unrepresented using ecosystem service approaches. Moreover, the identified societal 'hotspots' were spatially different using different value categorisations and different value indices. These outcomes suggest a need for a comprehensive societal value typology that ensures that the public is heard, and that the identified values are accurate and meaningful. The public valuation of beach and coastal areas was different among gender, educational backgrounds, respondents' residential city sizes, and the relative location between respondents' hometown and their favourite beaches. Keywords refer to important words or concepts that represent the research foci and theoretical backgrounds of an academic study. They enable readers to glean a quick impression about what they are going to read from an academic article. Keywords also provide valuable information for researchers who intend to search for articles related to a particular field or conduct a survey related to a specific topic. Therefore, in selected academic journals, detailed guidelines are provided to help authors choose appropriate keywords for highlighting their research. In this editorial, we examine the role of keywords from several perspectives by reviewing the keywords adopted by AJET authors in recent years. Accordingly, we attempt to provide recommendations to AJET authors for their future submissions. The study evaluated the implementation of the Special Program for Information and Communication Technology (SP-ICT). Two hundred seventy teachers and forty-six school heads involve in the implementation of the program for the last three years served as respondents. Data were gathered by using a questionnaire. Data were statistically analyzed to determine what variables predict the extent on the implementation of the special program for ICT. Results revealed that the older the teacher, the more they are likely to be ready in the implementation of the SP-ICT as far as instructional supervision, manpower and learning resources are concerned. Young school heads with low educational backgrounds were found to have equipped with modern day technological knowledge and application. School and teachers' readiness in the implementation of SP-ICT were significantly correlated. Their readiness was significantly correlated to the extent of implementation of SP-ICT in terms of planning and implementation. Furthermore, research found out that technological knowledge and technological pedagogical knowledge were statistically significant predictors of planning the implementation of SP-ICT. Statistics is a critical subject for university students. Their achievement has been negatively impacted by statistical anxiety and the obligation to pass the statistics course. By predicting the achievement of 199 students from one of local higher educational institutions students using statistical anxiety, study mode, gender and programme specialization. A survey was used to select respondents from a variety of programs at a local university. A random sampling technique was applied in administering the questionnaire of Statistical Anxiety Rating Scale. The questionnaire consists of 51 items which has six factors that can be answered using Google form. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Statistics anxiety, age, gender, study mode, and program specialization all account for 27 percent of the variation in their achievement. It is possible to improve statistics teaching and learning among university students, despite the fact that the percentage is relatively small. This article examines the impact of gender and family educational background on the leisure satisfaction of Spanish secondary school-age students (12-16 years). The research design consisted of a quantitative study in the form of a questionnaire (the reduced version of Beard and Ragheb's (1980) Leisure Satisfaction Scale), which was completed by a sample of 1887 secondary school students in Galicia (Spain). The results indicate a moderate level of satisfaction with leisure activities among the teenagers surveyed, with significant variations observed in relation to gender and parental educational level. Girls from families with a low level of educational attainment were found to be more likely to pass up leisure opportunities than boys, revealing a double gap (educational and gender-based) with regard to leisure satisfaction and a greater risk of precarious leisure. Graduate education is changing, driven by social issues, expectations, and technology. Leaders of graduate education play important roles in understanding these changes. The purpose for conducting the study was to profile the professional setting of the graduate dean, exploring the roles, responsibilities, and challenges of the position. Using a research-team developed instrument, graduate education leaders were surveyed. Descriptive findings of the study included the nomenclature of titles who held full time appointments and had an academic background in the liberal arts. The impact of academic resilience and attitude on management performance was investigated in this study. Management Academic Resilience, Manager Background, and Manager Attitude are independent variables, while Performance is the dependent variable. The study topic is to investigate the link and influence of manager attitude on performance, as well as the influence of academic resilience and background. It was a methodical technique to finding a solution to a study problem by answering research questions with the following aims in mind: to understand the benefits of academic resilience for managers, to examine manager's background elements molding attitude, and to investigate the role of manager's attitude in performance. The study employed a standardized survey questionnaire with items relevant to all dimensions and demographical characteristics on a sample of 120 managers from Peshawar. SPSS 24 is used for data analysis, which includes reliability analysis, one-sample T-tests, and correlations regression analysis statistical tests. The findings and conclusion are based on an analysis that supports the idea and justifies all three hypotheses tested in the study, with all three conceptual hypotheses acknowledged as valid. The study outlines what motivates some secondary mathematics teachers to develop critically informed citizens in the mathematics classroom. Data was collected through eight semi-structured interviews which outlined the teachers’ own experiences and pedagogical approaches relating to developing students as critically informed citizens in the secondary mathematics classroom. An adapted version of Ernest’s model of mathematics-related belief systems was used as card sort prompts for the interview. The same model was also used to analyse the interview data and identify what motivated teachers to take this pedagogical approach. Evidence from the study suggests that teachers from diverse mathematical beliefs and academic backgrounds are motivated to develop students into informed citizens in the mathematics classroom because they have an underlying concern for the student. Research on the Advanced Placement (AP) program generally shows that students scoring 4s and 5s on AP exams outperform their non-AP peers in subsequent college courses. However, faculty and academic advisors often suggest that students with AP credit should repeat prerequisite courses in college before attempting advanced coursework. We compared grades of 20,409 students in 42 subsequent courses across three groups: students who used AP credit as a prerequisite, students who earned AP credit but repeated the prerequisite courses in college, and students without AP credit. Results with two-level cross-sectional multilevel modeling showed that AP students performed similarly in subsequent courses whether they chose to repeat prerequisites or not; both groups outperformed non-AP students with similar academic backgrounds. Prestigious academic scholarships are highly competitive, so using appropriate evaluation criteria is important. In this study, we analyzed 259 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) grantees in social sciences and humanities to see their composition in terms of productivity, educational background, mobility, and gender. Based on quantitative content analysis, linear regressions, and network analyses, the findings reveal that while most grantees significantly improved in their production after funding, there are many awardees with weak or even invisible publication records on Scopus both prior to and following their awards. Most of the scholars who had already been prolific prior to their grant continued to be productive after funding, while many awardees with weak past performances were even less productive after winning the scholarship. In terms of gender, we found no Matilda effect in the grant allocation process; while in terms of production, male scholars benefit more from the grant than females. The outcomes also show that Western countries dominate both the awardees' education trajectories and their host institutions. Our conclusion is that the geographic diversity among the awardees should be developed and that the evaluation process should focus on pre-MSCA performance to support the most promising applicants. To describe the ethnicity of domestic applicants for selection into the professional phase of veterinary education in Aotearoa New Zealand from 2003 to 2019, and to compare this with the ethnic composition of New Zealand society. This study also aims to explore whether there are differences in the demographic features and educational background of Māori applicants compared to non-Māori applicants that may be relevant to widening access to veterinary education. This study was conducted with a Kaupapa Māori research methodology. Data for all applicants to the Bachelor of Veterinary Science programme at Massey University (Palmerston North, NZ) from 2003 to 2019 were retrieved from the university's Student Management System and the School of Veterinary Science selection application databases. Self-identified ethnicity was analysed in four time periods (2003–2006, 2007–2012, 2013–2016, 2017–2019) defined by factors that might influence whether an individual chose to apply for selection into the veterinary programme. Gender, age, previous university experience, decile and type of high school, and being first in family to attend university were compared between Māori and non-Māori. From 2003 to 2019, 3,819 individuals submitted 4,802 applications for selection into the veterinary programme. Across all time periods, applicants who identified as Māori (274/4,802; 5.7%) or Pacific (56/4,802; 1.2%) were underrepresented compared to the New Zealand population (Māori 16.5%; Pacific 8.1%), while applicants who identified as European (4,035/4,802; 84%) were over-represented (70.2% of the New Zealand population). The proportion of Māori (p = 0.82) and Pacific (p = 0.31) applicants did not change over time, while the proportion of European applicants decreased from 853/968 (88.1%) to 823/977 (84.2%; p < 0.001). Compared to non-Māori, Māori applicants were more likely to have attended a lower decile school (p < 0.001), have attended a state rather than private or overseas school (p = 0.003) and to have been the first in their family to attend university (p = 0.001). Māori are underrepresented in the veterinary applicant pool and veterinary profession in comparison to the New Zealand population. Additionally, Māori applicants differed from non-Māori applicants in pre-university factors that are barriers to university attendance. Implementing activities and processes aimed at widening veterinary programme access with the eventual goal of improving the ethnic representation of the veterinary workforce needs to be a priority for the university and profession. A longitudinal analysis was used to investigate the relationships between school-level factors (poverty, location, size, ratings, and race/ethnicity) and visual arts achievement. Data were collected on 4th-grade students from 34 elementary schools that received Distinguished Arts Program grants in a southeastern state of the United States from 2011 to 2017. Students' individual multiple-choice visual arts scores were aggregated into school-level scores. The analysis revealed that school-level visual arts scores decreased over time from 2011 to 2017. Visual arts scores appeared to be significantly associated with school ratings, poverty, and race/ethnicity. The findings of the study may inform art educators, school administrators, and policy makers in their program offerings, planning, and targeted interventions around issues of art education. There is substantial variability in the effectiveness of group lifestyle interventions for weight loss. We examined associations between intervention weight loss counselors and participant weight loss and program engagement in a structured lifestyle intervention. Data were from 575 adults (87% female, 51 (12) years, baseline BMI: 32.4 (7.2) kg/m2) in an 11-week structured group lifestyle program. Participants self-enrolled in groups led by 11 weight loss counselors based on meeting times. All weight loss counselors received the same training. Linear mixed models were used to evaluate counselor predictors of participant percent (%) weight loss and program engagement (weight reporting throughout 11 weeks). Of the 575 participants, 415 (72%) defined as complete reporters, i.e. reported weight weekly, lost a mean 7.3% weight (range: +3.1% to 16.2%). Participant weight loss differed between weight loss counselors (p = 0.003), and adjusted mean participant weight loss by weight loss counselor ranged from 6% to 9%. Weight loss was greater for weight loss counselors with a graduate degree in nutrition than weight loss counselors with another graduate degree (8.3% versus 6.4%, p = 0.05), but was not different between weight loss counselors with and without graduate degrees. Higher counselor BMI was associated with higher participant weight loss (p = 0.005). These results demonstrate the potential for quantitatively important effects of weight loss counselor characteristics on participant success and engagement in structured lifestyle interventions, indicating a need for research in this area. Dynamic markets seem to be the norm today, and firms across many industries are facing disruptions for both inside and outside their industries. The Chief Innovation Officer (CINO) is a relatively new addition to the C-Suite, with a responsibility to accelerate change and increase firm value by driving innovation initiatives. The rapid rise of this position within executive ranks follows a similar pattern that has been seen with other C-Suite level positions, such as Chief Digital Officer and Chief Data Officer. Researchers are starting to explore the firm value and performance results from these "CXO" positions, but no studies have been found regarding the CINO position. We find that firm announcements result in negative market reactions, with the move of a CEO into the CINO role, firm size, intangible assets, and educational background of the individual as significant predictors of abnormal returns.
