Due to its impact on all human activity, the new virus has therefore aroused increased interest in research. A large number of medical papers related to COVID-19 have been published as a result of the scientific community response to this emerging infectious disease. All measures that combat the spread of the disease came at a cost and the people had to add one more hardship which contributed to the rise in social inequality. Moreover, the costs for internet access, proper equipment to support online education, private healthcare, facemasks, and disinfectants have become a burden for a segment of Romanian society. In this study, 18 Romanian universities a Medicine bachelor specialisation, both public and private, were analysed to determine the dataset query from Web of Science. Our research aimed to assess the impact of COVID-19 papers written by authors affiliated with Romanian universities with a medicine specialisation, which are the factors that influence the likelihood of a paper being cited and how the number of citations varies by university type. The obtained results reveal that University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" from Bucharest records the highest number of published papers, while "APOL-LONIA" University of Iași has the highest number of citations in both WOS Core Collection and in all WOS Databases per research. Furthermore, there is a significant difference in the number of citations between papers with and without a PUB MED ID. Logistic models show that neither the type of university nor the property type of the university (public or private) are determinants of the likelihood of an article being cited in the WOS core collection or in all WOS databases. In the context of an ever growing interest upon environmental protection issue, the study comprises an analyze of the organization and the effectiveness of the public sanitation services both at a union and a national level, starting from the premises of the two dedicated principles: the priority of selective waste collection and the principle „Pay-as-you-throw“, a practical application of a more general „the polluter pays“ principle. Both of these are going to be analyzed from a double perspective: the EU Law (Directive 2008/98/EC) and EU recommendations, on one side, the national law (Law no. 51/2006 of community services of public utilities, GEO no. 92/2021 regarding the waste regime, Law no. 101/2006 of the public sanitation services, Framework Regulation of the public sanitation services etc.), on the other. As this study will show, EU and national law are abundant in regulations determining and detailing these two principles: thus, the theory seems to be clear. These principles are no longer that clear when it comes to their concrete application, due to the lack of detailed rules. The selective waste collection remains, in fact, a simple wish, mostly because the users of the public sanitation service have not received previous proper instruction in this regard, as there are no concrete rules related to how to classify a waste into one of the paper/plastic and metal/glass/biodegradable categories. But also „The polluter pays“ principle is rather an illusion than a reality; even though national laws force its implementation, there are plenty of hurdles in applying it: the inadequate use of the available instruments that determines the waste produced by each individual, or to the difficulties related to condominiums. The article focuses on the analysis of all of these acute issues, taking into account two factual examples -- waste management in the Metropolitan Area of Cluj and Bucharest, -- proposing solutions attempting to ease the implementation of these two key principles concerning public sanitation services. The International Colloquium of Social Sciences and Communication ACUM (NOW) took place in Brasov in between 17th and 19th of October 2019, over three sunny autumn days. The event was organized by the Faculty of Sociology and Communication of the University Transylvania and by the Society of Sociologists of Romania. The keynote speakers were: Bogdan Voicu (R.I.Q.L.) with a communication about migration as a double osmosis, Robbie Gilligan (University of Dublin), with a paper about working with vulnerable young people, Sylvie Huet, (University of Clermond), who investigated the "glass ceilings", and Mihai Burlacu, from the Bucharest Polytechnic, with a reconsideration of the anthropological space as heterotopia. The colloquium organized by SSR is already part of a local university tradition of national and international openness. Slowly but steadily, a real international character of scientific manifestations in Romania is formed, much less cosmopolitan than similar conferences in the global West, but with a constant presence of foreign guests and participants who bring a much needed diversity of perspectives and research themes. During the works, we received a very careful reception from colleagues in sessions that put together various contributions, from long-term individual research topics to recent exploratory research.The event was one that confirmed its success over the years, thus strengthening Brasov's place on the map of social sciences in Romania. This paper examines the connection between the change in 10-year government bond yields, as a proxy of the long-term interest rates and the stock returns for Romania, between April 2020 and December 2023. The stock prices were represented by the reference index BET (Bucharest Exchange Trading) of the Romanian stock market, Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE). The regression analysis showed an inverse linear connection, of medium intensity, between the exogenous variable, the change in government bond yields, and the dependent variable, the stock returns listed by BSE. The increase in interest rates will lead to a decrease in the price of the companies' stocks, the increase in the cost of financing for companies will decrease the value of their investments, and therefore the investors will anticipate the decrease in future cash flows. The purpose of the paper is to observe and analyze how the dynamics of macroeconomic factors impact the evolution of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) during the latest crisis (Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukrainian war), through the lens of various market stock indices (BET, BetPlus, BET-FI and BETNG). After the monthly values of both the macroeconomic factors (inflation rate, unemployment rate, RONEURO exchange rates, industrial production index, average salary, money supply, interest rate and oil price) and Bucharest Stock Exchange indices were collected, during the period January 2020-June 2023, the descriptive statistics was used to describe all the observed data (mean value, standard deviation, minimum/maximum value). The Fourth Industrial Revolution had a major impact on the labor market. There are many consequences of the digitalization of the economy, but this research shows the changes in supply structure on the Romanian labor market. The companies that are operating in Romania usually publish job opportunities on recruitment platforms. Using the web scraping techniques we will identify which jobs are currently available on the Romanian labor market, in which cities, but also the field of activity. First of all, we will analyze the concentration of jobs in cities. We will classify these jobs based on an official classification code used by the Romanian state, because the job offer is very wide. Moreover, we will analyze the level of experience and the level of training that the candidate must have. In Romania, the main economic centers are Bucharest, Timisoara and Cluj-Napoca. In these three cities we also identify the highest concentration of jobs. There are many jobs in the IT field and those jobs that involve communication. Candidates with at least one year of experience in the field are preferred, as well as candidates who are willing to work full time. It can be noted that jobs with repetitive activity have almost disappeared, because they have been replaced by industrial robots. Also, it can be seen that employers are looking for candidates with higher education. In this step we will talk about job polarization phenomenon. Finally, the paper aims to indicate the stage of development of the Romanian labor market and what young people need to know before choosing their future career. The financing of the activity represents an important part of the company's financial policy. The working capital represents the resources that the company needs to finance its current production activity. Maintaining a balance between working capital and needs is a goal that supports the smooth running of the activity, which suggests that financial balance influences profitability, so the purpose of this paper is to verify this. In this sense, 20 tourism companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange were selected, using a data set for the period 2008-2022, processed through regression analysis. The results obtained indicate a correlation between the net profit margin (dependent variable) and the working capital ratio (independent variable). This paper was written on the occasion of 120 years anniversary since Professor Henry H. Stahl’s birthday. A member of the Sociological School in Bucharest (founded by Dimitrie Gusti), H.H. Stahl became the most important and original Romanian sociologist and historian of the last century. Despite this, the author of the paper emphasizes that his life and activity are not sufficiently known. For this reason, the homage of this scientist must be the beginning of new research. This paper explores the dynamics of women's fashion marketing in advertisements and promotional materials related to Western ideas, materials or products, published in interwar Bucharest. The aim is to ascertain the degree and nature of Western women's fashion influence in interwar Romania as a reflection of larger social, political, cultural and economic phenomena at a local, regional, European and global level. The study also offers an overview of the various individuals and entities involved in the textile and fashion industry of interwar Bucharest, with various budgets and means of propagation, and possible ethical and accuracy concerns regarding their messaging. Also discussed are the major trends in interwar Romanian advertising in relation to the West, namely the import of ideas, raw materials and finished goods. The recourse to semiotics and discourse analysis offers a wider understanding of interwar Romania through the lens of fashion as marketed to interwar Bucharesters, covering all aspects relevant to the fashion industry, from conception, production and dissemination to consumption and interpretation. This study looks at the multi-criteria hierarchy of Romanian regions from the standpoint of the digital economy using particular information and communication technology statistics released by EUROSTAT. The multi-criteria hierarchy of regions' practical application comes from the fact that it enables experts, national and local public authorities, to understand the actual situation and the place of each region in the ranking. In relation to these positions, the existing interregional disappearances are highlighted and necessary measures can be taken to reduce them at the expense of special and regional programs. What is specific to this paper is the application of methods other than those commonly used in regional analysis. It is about the methods of competitive analysis of companies, namely: the synthetic indicator procedure, the comparison matrix procedure, the distance procedure and the final ranking procedure. These procedures have been adapted to the regional analysis. The target time period was 2008-2020. The results of the analysis revealed once again the existence of the two regional poles of Romania from the perspective of the digital economy. This present paper analyzes the correlation between the financial performance and the risks based on a sample of 40 companies listed on Bucharest Stock Exchange. The period subjected to observation was in amount of three years (2016-2018). The performance is quantified on the basis of accounting indicators: return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE). Also the financial risk is determined through financial leverage (level of indebtedness). The aim of this paper work is to determine the financial risk in order to obtain financial performance, as well as testing the relation between the financial performance and risks. The statistic analyze of data is based on statistic software SPPS, and also on Pearson coefficient. As a result, the statistic correlation between the rate of return equity (ROE) as a dependent variable and independent variables: return of assets (ROA), the rate of interest (IR), financial leverage (FR), is verified. The main objective of this paper is to observe the effects that a long-term online work program have on the importance of having an office to go to work to. I talked with nine white-collar workers (back-office and administrative responsibilities) from an international company with branch-offices in Bucharest, in order to collect their impressions about their current work environment and arrangements. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they had to work from home for the last two years. Through discussions, I have concluded that, for them, the home`s environment has helped them when it came to their daily professional tasks. At the same time, they were in agreement that the only advantage of having an office was the chance to better socialize with coworkers. For this study`s participants, work-from-home meant no time wasted on the way to the office and back and more time either to increase their work efficiency or to unwind. Before the pandemic hit, they saw the office as indispensable. After the pandemic, the office has lost this role and became more important as a central place for employees to gather and socialize. If we consider road traffic in urban areas, one of its major problems encountered nowadays is that of traffic congestion. The paper aims to provide an improvement, in terms of reducing traffic congestion, by analyzing different traffic light cycles. A traffic light cycle is determined by the red and green duration of the traffic lights. Traditionally these two have a fixed duration and controlling road traffic can be achieved by modifying it, resulting in a congestion reduction. We present a comparison between the fixed and an improved fixed situation, as well as a QL algorithm to further reduce the congestion at an intersection. Urban traffic can thus be optimized, in terms of reducing congestion, on an existing traffic light system. The paper provides a nuanced reading of the ways in which conditions of precarity arising from forced evictions are 'made' and 'unmade' in their unfolding, offering a way to appreciate their performative politics. Grounded in an activist ethnography of evictions against Roma people in Bucharest, Romania, the work provides a reading of urban precarity as not only an embodied product, but also a producer of the urban political. It advances an innovative methodology to investigate the politics of urban precarity, which focuses around four intersecting processes: the historical pre-makings of precarity; the discursive and material displacement of its in-making; embodied resistance as a form of un-making; and authoritarian responses as its re-making. Through its theoretical and methodological insights, the paper contributes to scholarship interested in a critical understanding of embodiment, politics, and urban precarity beyond the analysed case. In recent years, there has been a considerable increase in awareness of the importance of promoting entrepreneurship to the younger generation. The paper aims to analyse the effect of intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence and creativity on students' entrepreneurial intention. A quantitative approach was used in the form of a survey questionnaire, which was administered to a sample of 197 students in the Faculty of Business and Administration, University of Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania. Bucharest City is the capital of Romania and also the biggest city. Situated in an alluvial plane, the geological settings are represented by a series of overlaying Quaternary strata of aquifers and aquitards. Some of these aquifers are used for water supply (the deeper aquifers) and the shallow and medium ones are characterized by an intense interaction with the urban infrastructure. The paper presents the drivers and also the architecture of the urban groundwater monitoring systems developed in the last years in order to observe the urban impact upon the first two aquifers layers. This paper aims to analyze the reforms that shaped the fiscal policies of Greater romania, amid the changes brought forth within the country after the Great Union of 1918. The addition of the new provinces, with special emphasis on Transylvania, prompted the government in Bucharest to tailor a comprehensive set of measures in the areas of direct and indirect taxation, meant to take into account the specific development of the former, as well as to further the modernization efforts emblematic of romania's orientation in the interwar period. The data from Statistical Yearbooks published at that time provides us with an insight into the types of taxes envisaged, the manner in which budgets were executed, and the contribution of each province to the overall national budget. This short paper is, in fact, a brief presentation of the independent research group the "Gusti Cooperative", which has been investigating, for twenty years, the history of the Sociological School of Bucharest from a social history perspective. In the article a take a critical stance towards the diachronic practice of the history of sociology promoted from the 1960s onwards, advocating, instead, for a synchronic approach to the Gustian phenomenon. Therefore, in this short exploration, I emphasize that it is necessary to continue in-depth research of the contexts in which the School was active, as well as the need for auxiliary tools, while not attempting to make any kind of synthesis. Over the last decades, an increasing number of researchers and practitioners have expressed their interest for sustainable development and sustainability. Since it was introduced in 1987, the concept of sustainable development was addressed by the United Nations through various ways, which are of reference not only to countries, but also to companies. Yet, there is still a lack of a clear understanding regarding how organisations should address sustainability, despite all the efforts to encourage businesses to improve their triple bottom line. Nowadays, corporate responsibility reporting has become common practice among world's largest companies, as individuals begin to consider environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in particular into their investment decisions. Nevertheless, adapting to a business environment where responsible investment becomes the norm poses a number of challenges to organisations. Although non-financial disclosure is gradually gaining momentum and receiving more and more attention in Europe, on the Eastern side of the continent there is still a considerable emphasis placed on financial reports. With a pro-foreign investment stance, Romania stands out at regional level, being among the top emerging markets. Also, trading on the Bucharest Stock Exchange Market (BVB) has become attractive to investors due to a number of reasons which include high dividends, a growing market potential and an increasing transparency of the issuers. Therefore, the aim of the present paper is to provide a content analysis of non-financial reports issued by the top ten companies listed on Bucharest Stock Exchange Market regarding the way they embed sustainability considerations into their business discourse. Decorative apple species are used in different fields: breeding, landscape architecture, feeding of the birds during winter, etc. This paper presents the physicohemical characteristics of some ornamental apple genotypes grown and developed in the Northern area of Bucharest and the degree of pollen germination, according with area’s climatic conditions. The results show that some fruits have a high total soluble content, up to 26.98% and dry matter up to 33.18%, these ornamental apple genotypes can be recommended to be used in breeding to obtain new types of fruits for human consumption that have certain characteristics. The maximum percentage of pollen germination was 54.90% for the studied period, when during the efflorescence and blooming period massive rainfall occurred, but important for further research. Stocks, bonds, derivatives and structured products listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange are, still, financial instruments often used by investors in the construction of investment portfolios. An important role in this process have indices, and this for several reasons: indices reflect the evolution of the stock exchange as a whole, but also of some companies in representative sectors; the composition of the indices includes important companies, attractive for the investors; by the way they are constructed, indices can be used as underlying for structured products or derivatives. The aim of this paper is to examine the correlations between the six companies which are the constituents of the BETFI index (Bucharest Exchange Trading Investment Funds), the first sectorial index launched by Bucharest Stock Exchange. To achieve this objective, we use a dynamic conditional correlation (DCC) model using daily data over the period February 2011-October 2016. We hope that this paper can be a useful tool for investors in formulating the right investment policies for asset allocation in order to obtain the best results in terms of risk and return. This paper aims to present some of the most popular multi-temporal differential interferometry (DInSAR) techniques that are used for monitoring surface deformations in different types of areas. We focus on the urban area of Bucharest, where we applied the PS (Persistent Scatterers) and SBAS (Small BAseline Subset) techniques. The PS approach analyzes interferograms generated with a common master image, looking at point targets that remain stable over time, generating signal that remains coherent from an acquisition to another. The SBAS approach relies on small baseline interferograms that maximize the spatial and temporal coherence. In this paper we compare these techniques by applying them to the urban area of Bucharest using TSX data.. Both PS and SBAS methods generate millimetre ground displacement rates. The PS subsidence values range from -22 mm/yr to 22 mm/yr while the SBAS value rates are lower, from -10 mm/yr to 10 mm/yr. The subsidence rate maps are compared from a quantitative and qualitative point of view, taking into account also the type of movements that the techniques can derive. The current paper is mainly methodological oriented, aiming to present the PS and SBAS techniques in a comparative way. The purpose of this research is to cluster Romania's 41 counties, along with the municipality of Bucharest, based on 2016 data retrieved from both public and the private health systems. This paper classifies the counties in 3 separate clusters, considered low, medium or high-level groups, using the K-means cluster analysis. Various factors are taken into consideration, such as: the number of hospitals, pharmacies, dental practices, as well as the number of physicians, pharmacists and mid-level practitioners. The major findings as the result of the analysis, are the emphasizing differences between Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj and all the other 39 counties regarding the number of healthcare providers andhealthcare institutions. The paper discusses die events of December 1989 in Romania. Were they "a revolution"? The claim can be made that there was a rupmre in sovereignty in Romania represented by the transfer of power from the Romanian Communist Party to the National Salvation Front. There were competing centers of power in Timisoara after the establishment of the Romanian Democratic Front on 20 December in opposition to the remnants of the Communist Party organization in die county council building; indeed, such a duality of power can be extrapolated to distinguish Timi§oara from the rest of the country in the period 20-25 December. Are we to disqualify the use of the term "revolution" in the Romanian context not because a rupmre took place in sovereignty but because there was no rupmre in continuity, i.e. communists took over power? Or is it that some see the authenticity of a revolution defined not only in policy change, but also in a change of mentality? We can argue that Nicolae Ceau§escu's overthrow was not a coup d'etat. His retreat from the center of Bucharest in the face of vociferous protest bears the mark of revolution, as does the mass mobilization, widespread violence, spontaneous creation of revolutionary institutions, and subsequent fierce straggle between the revolutionary contenders on the streets of Romania's cities. That multiple sovereignty did not last longer can be explained by two conditions; firstly, high levels of coercion prevented the appearance of an effective opposition prior to the revolution and, secondly, at the same time, such was the advanced level of state breakdown in Romania that in the end the regime needed only a limited challenge before it collapsed. The aim of the paper is to examine and analyze the long-term spatial dynamics of LULC (Land Use/Land Cover) and the impact of their changes on the SUHI (Surface Urban Heat Island). The study covered the area of Bucharest Municipality, the capital of Romania and its neighboring areas, and involved a series of Landsat images, taken in the summer, and ranging from 1984 to 2016. To achieve the goal the following were accomplished: (i) a supervised image classification, done with good accuracy and (ii) a post classification change detection approach was used to assess the LULC changes; (iii) the thermal signature for each land use category was determined using LST (Land Surface Temperature); also, iv) NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) has been used to determine a relationship between the thermal behavior and the characteristics of each land use category. The results have revealed that by 2016 there has been an increase in the built-up areas and the fallow land areas and a decrease in the croplands and forested areas. Also, there were observed the increase in surface temperature and a decrease for the difference between the average temperature of the urban area and the surrounding areas of the city indicating the extension of the area where the phenomenon of the Urban Heat Island of Bucharest occurs. The Romanian stock market plays an important role in a capital allocation process and has a fundamental role in the growth of the industry and commerce of the country. The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) was founded on June, 21, 1995 as a public non-profit institution based on the Decision of the National Securities Commission (CNVM) no. 20/1995. In July 2005, BVB became a stock company. Starting June 8, 2010, the Bucharest Stock Exchange SA is listed on its own regulated spot market, with the BSE symbol and is included in the Premium Category. BSE is the main market operator in Romania and manages the regulated market and the AeRO market. In the last few years Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) started to build a competitive capital markets in the Central-Eastern Europe, trying to compete, on the national level, with other segments of the financial market (such as the banking market, the foreign exchange market) and, on the international level, with other stock exchanges from countries located in the region (Czech Republic-Prague Stock Exchange, Croatia-Zagreb Stock Exchange, Hungary-Budapest Stock Exchange and Poland-Warsaw Stock Exchange). Internal migration is one of the most important drivers for reducing poverty and facilitating economic development. However, the factors that affect population mobility within a country, as well as the relationship between internal migration and economic development, are difficult to understand. This paper aims to provide an analysis of the population mobility in Romania, so that one understands the relationship between the economic development and internal migration. In order to achieve this objective, official data provided by the National Institute of Statistics as well as various statistical and econometric techniques (simple regression, entropy) are used. The research led to three major findings: (i) the internal migratory process is characterized by 7 historical periods, highly related to the social, economic and political phenomena that shaped the Romanian history; (ii) economic development of a county and the internal migration inflows are highly dependent; (iii) internal migration flows concentrate towards just four counties: Bucharest, Timisoara, Cluj and Constanta, leading to major agglomerations. This paper highlights the influence of the independent variables: the Rotation of the current assets (ROTA), the Rate of return of the consumed resources from exploitation (RRCE), the Current Liquidity Rate ((RLC), and the Return on Assets (ROA) on the change of the dependent variable - the Income rate of return (RRV) at 35 companies from the manufacturing industry in Romania, listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, listed at the premium and standard category, during the period of time 2007-2016. The results obtained in the regression model, confirmed it's validity, there being interdependence between the change of the independent variables and the Income rate of return. This paper aims at empirically investigating the relationship between CSR and corporate performance by using both accounting-based performance measures (e.g. ROA, ROE, and ROS), as well as market-based firm performance measures (e.g. PER, EPS, and PBV), for a sample of companies listed on the BSE during the period 2008-2011. In addition, there were considered several control variables that cover firm's characteristics including size, indebtedness, as well as the company's tenure. By employing panel data regression models without cross-section effects, we found a negative relationship between CSR and ROS, as well as a positive association between CSR and EPS. Furthermore, by estimating fixed-effects panel data regression models, the positive relationship between CSR and EPS was reinforced. In addition, we have performed several robustness checks such as the presence of autocorrelation in the residuals, as well as the variance inflation factors towards multicollinearity. The novelty of the current paper consists in the consideration of a multifarious set of performance ratios. Financial series tend to be characterized by volatility and this characteristic affects both financial series of developed markets and emerging markets. Because of the emerging markets have provided major investment opportunities in last decades their volatility has been widely investigated in the literature. The most popular volatility models are the Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedastic (ARCH) or Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedastic (GARCH) models. This paper aims to investigate the volatility of Bucharest Stock Exchange, BET index as an emerging capital market and compare forecasting power for volatility of this index during 2000-2014. To do this, this paper use GARCH, TARCH, EGARCH and PARCH models against Generalized Error distribution. We estimate these models then we compare the forecasting power of these GARCH type models in sample period. The results show that the EGARCH is the best model by means of forecasting performance. The financial crisis has hurt almost all the countries in the world, strengthening the role of the international financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Given that Romania turned to the IMF to cushion the impact of the crisis, our paper investigates the influence of the IMF programs on the macroeconomic indicators of the Romanian economy in the recent years and the effects on the investment environment represented by the volume of transactions on Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE). The method used to achieve our goal is the analysis of the time series consisting of the monthly moving average of the volume of transactions on BSE, the consumer price index (CPI), the credit interest rate (Lombard) and the Euro/Ron rate of exchange fluctuation in the last 10 years. The contribution of the paper comes from its findings which draw an interesting and useful conclusion on the effects of the interventions of the IMF in Romania that can work as a guideline for further interventions. 1939 marks the culmination of the Bucharest Sociological School (BSS) led by Dimitrie Gusti. In recognition of its achievements, the XIVth International Congress of Sociology has been scheduled to take place in Romania. The foreign papers sent to the organizing committee are published in five volumes (whith five additional ones planned to appear after the Congress). According to documents here published for the first time, over one hundred Romanian papers are in preparation. And then, suddenly, WWII broke out. The Congress had to be postponed. During the war, however, the BSS continues its publishing activities in view of the Congress. Betwen 1946 and 1947 Gusti travels to New York and presents a project for an Social Institute of Nations to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and to colleague sociologists from Columbia University. In 1948 the communist regime will ban sociology from universities and schools and suppress the Romanian Social Institute. Some of the School's members will be arrested. In 1950, despite organizer's Corrado Gini insistent and repeated invitations, Gusti will not be allowed to participate in the XIVth International Congress of Sociology finally held in Rome. The 4th edition of the Social Work International Conference (SWIC) took place in Bucharest between the 7th and 8th of November 2019. The conference is organised by the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, University of Bucharest, in collaboration with the Association of Schools of Social Work in Romania (ASSWR). Of all 8 ministers of France in Bucharest between 1880 and 1916, the name of Camille Blondel is the most known. It couldn't be different. The French diplomat succeeded, during his mission in Bucharest, to contribute to a rapprochement between Romania and France at the beginning of XX century. In this paper, we have been looking to surprise aspects of his activity in Romanian Old Kingdom before the outbreak of First World War and after 1914. During the period of Romania's neutrality he had intense activity until May 1916, when he was suddenly replaced. Retrofitting apartments represents an important necessity for Bucharest, as the city's main body of residential construction was built during the communist era. The purpose of this paper is to reiterate the necessity of retrofitting apartments in Bucharest, through an analysis on the residential market on a large data sample of 19.795 transactions with apartments between 2013 and 2017. 19% of the sample consists of retroffited apartments. Our analysis included spatial references relative to both retrofitted and non-retrofitted apartments, in order to include in the discussion whether there is a random distribution on the decision to retrofit the main constructions. The paper aims to assess the effects of financing and risk management on firm value of companies and to provide additional evidence in the area of empirical debates. For these purposes, we performed a regression analysis (based on the fixed-effects model), which reflects the effects of the two policies (i.e. financing and risk management) on the value of the firms listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. The dependent variable was value of the firm; we used Tobin's Q as a proxy. Independent variables were: financial structure, risk management, financial return and firm size. The findings reveal that two of the four examined variables yield significant positive effects on the value of firms (financing structure and return on assets); for the other two independent variables analysed (risk management and firm size), the hypotheses were rejected. This paper presents the results of an analysis aiming to evaluate the quality of public transport services in Bucharest. The analysis was performed from two perspectives: the perceived quality of passengers and the quality desired by them. The purpose of the paper was to highlight the qualitative changes in the tongue of stroke patients and to explain the possible etiopathogenic mechanisms, in correlation with local and general risk factors. The working method consisted in a multidisciplinary study, using a rigorous working programme, on 91 patients of both genders, aged between 50 and 90 plus, hospitalised in the National Institute of Neurology and Neurovascular Diseases - Bucharest, based on a standard medical observation record, employing classical exploration, through a specialised clinical exam, as well as modern investigation means, and, when possible, metabolic research, in connection with the pathology of cerebrovascular diseases. The results indicated a 25, 27% frequency of glossitis in stroke patients, as well as a wide variety of clinical manifestations. We studied a series of factors that may be incriminated in glossitis etiopathogeny, related to the clinical characteristics of the disease, the occurrence of comorbidity and the localisation of cerebrovascular lesions. The data of the study are presented in graphs and exemplified through the presentation of some significant cases. The important conclusion of the paper is that the high frequency of glossitis in cerebrovascular disease sufferers, the etiopathogeny, can be justified not only by the existence of local-regional conditions and comorbidity but also by the fact that an important percentage of glossitis occurred in patients of any age and especially in elderly ones could be explained considering the most important disease of the century, atherosclerosis. The paper approaches an aspect belonging to a broad research topic we have focused on during the past years concerning the Romanian-Portuguese diplomatic relations. Using the definition and relation between politics, culture and propaganda, we will attempt to show the presence and influence of cultural propaganda on settling and developing the cultural relations between the two states considering that we mainly refer to the interwar period. Our paper has as central character Marfinho de Brederode and the way in which he understood to reach the objectives of strengthening the economic relations between Portugal and Romania by using the cultural aspect of his mission in Bucharest.
