Economic inequality continues to increase as markets become more liberalized at the global level. Within the coffee sector in Central America, farmers have been on the losing end of liberalization, receiving lower prices for their coffee, and less of the profit, than in earlier times. In this paper, I ask what role religious values may make in the economic behavior of market actors. Does the faith of economic actors have any consequences in terms of economic outcomes? Through researching a faith-based network of coffee actors, I find that faith influences how they think about their business, their product, and their relationships with other businesses and local farmers. As a result, faith also has some important economic consequences for farmers in the region, such as bringing them higher prices for their coffee and providing them more power in the global coffee commodity chain.
