Higher education teaching abruptly changed during the COVID-19 pandemic to remote, on-line learning and teaching. The use of on-line communication software to teach became the norm and remains at many institutions. This software contains features, such as the chat, that offer teaching and learning advantages; however, potential benefits can be challenging to realise for academics used to traditional modes of lecture delivery. In most cases a solo-taught lecture designed for a physical room does not transition well to the on-line space. Co-teaching, which involves two or more academics teaching the same class, is a pedagogy that can improve engagement and satisfaction for students and academics alike. However, how co-teaching can transition to the on-line space and take full benefit of the communication software features is not well known. We recognised that some aspects of sports announcing (commentating) align with desirable qualities of co-teaching on-line. In this paper we use these features to develop a practical framework for co-teaching in the on-line space and evaluate the model in a second-year university science subject. Using data from student surveys, we found that the coteaching model helped integrate the chat functionality into the main lecture and led to improved engagement and enjoyment of on-line classes. The model also assisted students in identifying key learning outcomes. Using the framework as a practical guide for how to incorporate co-teaching into online classes helps realise the benefits of contemporary communication software. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper intends to demonstrate how teaching and research of political communication have some inherent flaws in India. There is a huge amount of research literature available in the field of political communication in relation to communication campaigns, alternative strategies, populism, public relations, etc. But on the other hand, there is also a research gap in this literature cornering the ideological asymmetries, which makes media debates in India very complex and contradictory at the same time. Within the broad discussion about media debates and political communication, this paper confines its scope to the inquiry of political debates in print, visual and social media. Inconsistencies and irregularities in the comparison of political behavior in India, in relation to the general description of political communication are explicit in the existing research. This gives space to the formulation of research problem in teaching/research of political communication in the Indian context. Although aspects of sustainability in communication such as nonviolence are discussed from time to time, hardly any theoretical basement with an empirical validation can be found. In the broadest sense, sustainability refers to the ability to maintain or support a process continuously over time. This paper asks for the theoretical approach that helps to understand the challenges of teaching in schools of diverse societies (2) and explains some core aspects of the ongoing research on sustainability and communication (3). After that, this paper presents the research question this project tried to answer (4) and explains the used instruments, the data, and some of the most relevant outcomes of this study (5). Finally, some conclusions describe the opportunities and threats of sustainable communication for teacher education. The outcome of this paper is that a specific theory of sustainable communication is missing. Furthermore, the results of the empirical investigation show that intercultural communication, nonviolent communication, cooperation, problem solving and, reflection are statistically related as constructs and predictors of sustainable communication. Information and Communication Technology has led to many recent developments which can be embedded in various designs of engineering laboratories, the idea of virtual laboratory is one of them. Laboratories being the soul of Engineering disciplines put a greater impact on the overall learning experience in the education system. Virtual Laboratories can be cost efficient as these keep capabilities to replace the high-cost hardware device. In this paper we proposed a scheme to implement some of the modulation techniques from the Digital communication namely BPSK, QPSK, QAM and MSK on the FPGA board using MATLAB/Simulink inbuilt System Generator environment and Xilinx ISE 14.2. This paper verifies that the desired system proposed can be implemented on FPGA and the students will be able to develop concrete understanding of subject in simplified manner. The paper is basically a meta-analysis of the topic indicated in the title. It expounds the notion of context as an integral component in the process of teaching communication. In making an attempt to comprehend and subsequently produce a message, inevitably, it is the cohesive grasp of context that determines the rate of success in attempts to organize and sketch the process of communication one is about to take part in. Taking into account the theories offered by Cummins (1984b/2008), as well as the critical analysis offered by Baker (1996) and Song (2010), this paper indicates both the function context performs in the process of interaction organization and the position it is usually ascribed in FL education. Finally, an attempt to analyse, explain and briefly summarize the importance of appropriate FL teaching methods and presentation of context to foreign language learners is discussed. This paper investigated the perspectives of tutors in integrating information and communication technologies into their teaching. There is universal recognition of the need to use information and communication technologies in education as this is an era of globalization where the flow of information via satellite and the internet dominates information dissemination. This study is underpinned by the uses and gratifications theory, and a quantitative research design was used with a purposive sampling technique to select 120 tutors from Ghanaian colleges of education. The findings of the study revealed that most of the tutors have knowledge of information and communication technologies and they integrate information and communication technologies in their teaching and learning process. Furthermore, the tutors' level of knowledge of information and communication technology positively affects their information and communication technology integration in the teaching and learning process. Today's employee has to prepare himself for all possible ways to interact with people, be it in person, video conference, tele-conference, Skype, presentation, etc. It becomes inevitable for today's aspiring Engineers to jump in for key posts in the corporate world to master their presentation skills. The need for our students to excel in presentation skill prompted us to go for a small experiment with a sample size of 10 freshman students. After we had a detailed discussion with the stakeholders (HODs, Placement officer, Deans and sample group of students) on campus before revisiting the Professional Communication course content which is delivered to the freshman students; we learnt that our students required an immediate intervention in improving their presentation skills. This prompted us to research and go in for a pedagogical experiment. This paper talks about the approach that was coined in detail after years of teaching Professional Communication Course for freshman students of Engineering at KLE Technological University, Hubli. We called it The Vis-a-Vis Approach as Vis-a-Vis basically is a French word which means "face to face". This approach was coined keeping in mind as to help the students know themselves and their shortcomings better through a thorough discussion which happens one on one between the faculty and the student away from the class environment after the assessments. The discussion actually begins by getting to know the students and his life and his parents back home and his hobbies. The purpose of this paper is twofold. The first part focuses on the difficulties and challenges that the students face in communicating efficiently. The second part of the paper emphasises how literature can be an effective tool in developing speaking skills. The use of literature evokes a personal response in the reader or listener. The material used in literature is authentic. It provides exposure to real language; it can relate to the learners' need more closely with a more creative approach and have a positive effect on the learners' motivation. Literature also provides interesting language practice materials in the form of drama, poetry and prose. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how these three areas: Poetry, Prose and Drama expand and encourage the learners in acquiring speaking skills. The emphasis has been laid on how these areas assist learners to comprehend the language effortlessly. When a teacher narrates a story, his aim should be to make the students interact by giving his opinions, feelings and personal experiences. Similarly teaching poetry will also motivate the students to discuss the characters and theme, or debate the moral issues. Furthermore, my focus will also be on drama which is again a very valuable tool to work on the speaking skills, especially pronunciation. Drama bridges the gap between the course book dialogue and its natural usage and when the learners play, move and act at the same time with drama, they become more confident in communicating and it elevates their learning process. This paper revisits the intellectual development of cultural studies in Latin America in order to assess current challenges and identify lines of research. It is argued that much of the literature has failed to seriously consider key points of cultural studies, namely, the need to be critical about its own epistemological premises and the need to study culture within broad social formations. Since the landmark studies by Néstor García Canclini and Jesús Martín Barbero laid the foundations in the 1980s, the field of cultural studies has generally aimed to illustrate original arguments instead of using them as a point of departure to analyze media and cultural phenomena. Consequently, many scholars have produced work that while it proves and illustrates original arguments about the hybrid nature of cultures and the complexity of cultural mediation, it does not push the field in new theoretical directions. An additional problem is that, often, the study of culture has been divorced from a close inspection of the linkages between cultural, political, and economic processes, and from the articulations between high and low culture. Consequently, the political underpinnings of the enterprise of cultural studies, as outlined by Raymond Williams and Stuart Hall, have been in the background. This choice has, arguably, restrained the intellectual development and undermined the potential to move theory‐building and the debate forward. Additionally, the disinterest in critically exploring theoretical premises has diminished the potential to transcend the boundaries of “area studies” in order to engage with the study of media and culture as well as cultural studies globally. The objective of the paper is to show how a trainer has to mould his teaching especially when he or she teaches communication skills and personality development, so that their meets the requirements of the corporate world. The first part of the paper discusses the difficulties existing in the present teaching world. Campus training should not be confined to classroom teaching. The classroom teaching impacts you alone, while at work your performance impacts the organization as a whole, your bosses and your co-workers. The second part of the paper deals with proper curriculum which will be entirely practiceoriented. Students will get acquainted with an environment identical to corporate world where they will be trained to meet the deadlines. Second Life (SL) is a three dimension virtual world imagined and created by its users. To explore various facets of language learning within SL, faculty members of an American university and a Chinese university took an evaluation research approach to search for appropriate ways to integrate SL into an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) program. This paper reports a part of the research efforts with a focus on the Chinese students' perspectives of an EFL Program in SL. Specifically included in this paper are (a) the Chinese students' perceived technology readiness to use SL for EFL learning, (b) their perceptions of SL, and (c) the EFL Program implemented in SL. The paper reviews related literature and theoretical support, describes the study's context and its implementation procedures, and discusses the evaluation results and implications. This paper argues for the importance of including salient aspects of intercultural communication (ICC) in the teaching of English as a foreign language, with particular reference to pedagogic contexts in Thailand. The paper begins by considering what is meant by intercultural communication and goes on to examine its relevance to language education. It continues by reflecting on the links between language, communication and culture, and then relates these to Thailand, with some examples to illustrate points made. The paper concludes by stressing that increased intercultural communicative competence (ICC competence) is likely to produce more proficient users of English as a foreign language. Recently I completed a performative (creative) PhD in the School of Creative Communication (now the Faculty of Design and Creative Practice) at the University of Canberra, Australia, where such doctorates were established only in 2002. Since I completed in 2006, I have been contemplating some process issues that emerged during my three and a half year's studies. While conferring with fellow students and colleagues at three universities in England, I found that the many of the problems they encountered were similar and so were not due uniquely to the innovative phase that I encountered, but were part of a wider scenario. At my university, the requirements for a creative doctorate are a creative component (equivalent to about 60,000 words) and a theoretical component (exegesis) of about 30,000 words. The physical outcome of my thesis is two artist's books: one, Tissue, is autobiographical, while questioning the nature of autobiography, memory and identity. The other, Re-Picturing My Life, is the theoretical component, examining several paradigms including issues of methodology; the value of art as research; theories of memory, identity, autobiography, and human interactions with objects. I have placed some of my text/images in this paper to provide a taste of the work in my thesis. My paper reflects on performative work in the context of academic research, and the resilience, determination and sense of humour needed to complete a doctorate successfully in this valuable area of endeavour. If we accept the view that teaching is one form of social interaction and highly a communication process, then it is possible to argue that different forms and kinds of social influence are established between a teacher and a pupil, and not only the influence of teacher on the pupil, but vice versa as well, the influence of pupil on the teacher. This paper emphasises the importance of social context in motivating the pupil by certain stimulative measures, which is substantiated by the results of the study performed in primary schools in Belgrade. The technique of systematic observation was applied and it comprised monitoring the classes of regular teaching and the frequency of stimulative measures in regular classes. The aim of research was to determine the significance of difference between the quality of communication between teachers and pupils and the frequency of stimulative measures. The quality of communication encompassed the course of verbal communication, expressing of initiative in class on the part of pupils, two kinds of pupils' responses and the possibility of combining those kinds and, finally, the dominant form of class work. The art of communication is the language of leadership. Being able to communicate effectively is the most important of all life skills. Presently, businesses are hiring fewer people and expecting them to do more and hence, employers have increased their expectations for potential employees. The employers do, however, continue to seek employees with commendable communication skills. According to a 2010 survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), communication skills are ranked first among a job candidate's 'must have' skills and qualities. It is an art that comes with regular practice. As proven, practice makes perfect; one has to keep practicing dedicatedly till he reaches perfection. Often, students do not realize the value of possessing these dynamic skills, and they assume that mere knowledge acquisition within their discipline is enough to get through that all-important Recruitment Process. In this crucial stage, faculty members must willingly accept their changing roles as facilitators and importantly, 'practice educators' to assist students in a positive way and reinforce what business executives expect in students who are going out into their workforce. Encouraging the students to participate in debate, discussions and presentations or seminars are some of the ways by which teachers can actually help their students to enhance and sharpen their oral communication skills. Written communication skills can be promoted by giving more assignments to the students that require their own thinking and writing skills. Further, a better and excellent way to impress the young learners can be achieved with the use of technological support that enhances both their written and oral communication skills under the sound guidance of their teachers. English has emerged as an international language and now it is a window to the world. Man has been using language as a tool of communication for centuries and it is the most widely used instrument. Today language is one of the most prized possessions of man. It acts as a repository of wisdom. As communication plays a vital role in the smooth functioning of an organization, the need to impart communication skills has assumed greater importance but it is still not free from ignorance, prejudice and superstition. Researches in this area have shown that 70% to 80% of the total working time of a professional is spent on communication. In India 64.14% is communicating in English. Communication is an important skill, but how do we, as teachers, teach this to our students? This question will present many challenges to the course designer. We all know that language is the means of communication among human beings and it is necessary for second language learners to take control of communication. So, designing the courses for communication will be placed in a special place. Among the communication ways, conversation with oral language is an easy way. Making a conversation is an ability that appeared from breaking the speaking ability into its sub-skills. Communicative competence of learners includes this ability. Course designer and textbook writers have to focus on different dimensions of this skill and pay attention to the conditions of their learners in different societies. Formats of the syllabus have many types in relation to the given guidelines, tasks types, or other features. One of them is Topic-based syllabus. This paper argues that, contrary to received wisdom, political economy lay at the core of the project of communication study at its originating academic moment in North America. It makes that case by reconstructing persistent political economic dimensions in the work of Charles Horton Cooley, who more than anyone else deserves to be called the intellectual founder of communication study in the U.S. Drawing out previously neglected aspects of Cooley's thought, it sketches how his pragmatist, social democratic brand of political economics took a holistic, historically informed view of the communicative constitution and social organization of selves, institutions, and political cultures. Cooley provides a starting point for a revised understanding of the history of political economic thinking about communication and ways that it has intersected with sociology, cultural study, and democratic theory. The present paper explores technical and pedagogical prospects in linking multimedia and language laboratory to teach communication skills to technical students. A variety of data, audio and visual sources, is used in the study for the analysis. Learners are given the opportunity to get exposure to various real world environments using the target language in the language laboratory. This exposure facilitates the students to observe and imitate model users of English. Through this, the processes that the learners actually engaged in while interpreting and carrying out multimedia tasks and group activities are illustrated. A process and eclectic-driven study is made with the ultimate goal of using the laboratory technology effectively. The study focuses on teaching listening, speaking, reading, writing skills, nonverbal communication and speech receptive behaviour using multimedia and language laboratory. The findings emerged from the teaching learning process in computeraided language learning laboratory are critically examined. In the end, factors that help the integration of multimedia and language laboratory into the training of communication skills to technical students are inferred from the study. The sharp downturn in the U.S. economy and the collapse of the economic model for media industries in the country had dramatic impact on the job market for communication workers in 2008-2009. Evidence exits that work has shifted away from organizational settings and become more individualized and that a type of deprofessionalization of the communication occupations is underway. Any such deprofessionalization of an occupation necessarily raises questions about the necessity for and components of educational training for entry to the occupation. Those questions are the central topic of this paper, which argues that curricula need to be reformulated and the role of the educational institutional institutions need to be reexamined. Using a survey of students from two national groups as an example, this paper shows how culture-contrastive research can be performed utilizing an extended version of the critical incident analysis (ECIA). Although it is a classic intercultural research instrument, the use of critical incidents can present methodological problems. Based on a study which was aimed at identifying communication barriers between German and Polish students at a cross-border university, an analysis method which combines traditional qualitative methods with critical incident analysis was created. The ECIA was developed as a response to the common criticisms of approaches based on critical incident analysis. By linking problem-centered interviews (WITZEL, 2000), the introduction of indicators, a codification of data, and expert opinions to critical incident analysis, the ECIA presents an application-oriented qualitative method that can be used to identify specific, relevant sources of problems in intercultural encounters. The present paper is based on a three year research conducted by an interdisciplinary team of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Communication and Public Relations (Faculty of Letters, University of Bucharest) and aimed at identifying and analyzing the role and functions of current structures of public relations in key public institutions in Romania.1 Three main types of public institutions have been targeted: administration (central and local), institutions of education and research, and cultural institutions. On the one hand, the reform in the public administration imposes the professionalism of its personnel, as well as of other professional categories from the public domain, in order to ensure the access to information, the free and fluent circulation of information and the public responsibility for the information transmitted. The issue of the reform in the public administration sector has had a very important stake for the 2004 Romania, considering the strategic objective of the admission in 2007 in the great family of EU member states. Within the process of reform, the public administration has been subject to important changes, restructuring, personnel reductions or augmentations. New laws and regulations target the increase of the public administration transparency and the lining up of the quality of the services offered to the citizen to the European standards. Art Communication occupies a particular place within the ‟orchestra„ of social communication and has got a number of specific and irreducible features. Under the pressure of avant-garde movements, which caused a rift between arts and public in the field of theory researchers and studies on aesthetic perception and reception have been promoted. They acquired a more consistent basis wile the expansion of semiotic approaches. Particularities and complexity of artistic communication are directly related to the specific artistic language. This study redefines some aspects of the theme, while highlighting the contribution of Romanian thinkers in defining and understanding the artistic language, in contrast to the language of science. I had in mind, mainly Tudor Vianu's theory on ‟double intention of language„ (transitive/reflexive), then the theory of Pius Servien, an author less known, but who anticipated certain current perspectives regarding the dependence of the significance of expression in the poetical language, and the complex theory of Solomon Marcus, recognized author and commented within the international scientific community, who developed a table of systematic oppositions between scientific and artistic language. Approaching rhetoric as the study of persuasive interchange, this paper considers the relevance of Aristotle's Rhetoric for the study of human group life. Although virtually unknown to modern day social scientists, this text has great relevance for contemporary scholarship. Not only does Aristotle's text centrally address influence work (and resistance), identities and reputations, deviance and culpability, emotionality and deliberation, and the broader process of human knowing and acting in political, character shaping, and courtroom contexts, but Aristotle also deals with these matters in remarkably comprehensive, systematic, and precise terms. Attending to the human capacity for agency, Aristotle also works with a sustained appreciation of purposive, reflective, adjustive interchange. Hence, whereas this text is invaluable of as a resource for the comparative transhistorical analysis of human interchange, it also suggests a great many ways that contemporary scholarship could be extended in the quest for a more adequate, more authentic social science. Since the propagation of global communications, information technology (IT) plays a very important role in improving quality of limb. Educational institutions have the responsibility to educate students with knowledge in this field. A fundamental IT educational program is currently conducted in the College of Engineering, National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan. This IT program is bused on three main IT technology subjects: system, design and fabrication. Five subprograms are designed, based on the interrelationships between these three subjects. In this paper, we present the leaching goal curriculum design and teaching outcome of one of these subprograms aiming for enhancing the students' ability in communication component fabrication. We focus particularly on the students' ability in system integration including theory, microfabrication, packaging and testing. Course teaching is accompanied with hands-on experiments performed in the supported laboratories. From the student projects, it was found that this subprogram successfully achieved the educational goal. Depreciative activities and high annual visitation levels threaten the health and sustainability of the giant Sequoia. Signage is one route to managing visitor behavior. Research suggests a two-by-two conceptualization of normative messages in signs. Messages may present the "ought" (injunctive) or the "is" (descriptive) of behavior and may be stated positively (prescriptive) or negatively (proscriptive). This paper summarizes findings from an experiment testing normative messages and presents evidence for injunctive-proscriptive messages as the most effective route in gaining desired behavior. Under this condition off-trail hiking was less likely to occur, compared to the incidence of off-trail hiking under four other conditions (including a control under which no additional sign was posted). In contrast, the incidence of off-trail hiking was greatest when the descriptive-proscriptive message was used (when compared to three other message types). The injunctive-proscriptive message is most appropriate when a behavior is desired shortly after exposure to a message and may not be most effective when longer-term maintenance of actions is desired. Today, when we refer to the competence profile of a teacher in a traditional manner, understood that this must have multiple skills such as those related to curriculum, but also by teaching field, research, lifelong learning, negotiation and communication, ICT competencies, all forming the „professional side‟, and emotional skills or socio-cultural and environmental. In this context the question could arise: „Ask the world of tomorrow a teacher, share the same skills as before or future teacher must submit another profile?‟ In research conducted in 2007, the labor world in 2020, Michael Rendell talks about the three worlds of the future: blue - specify large corporations, world environmentalists and the green-world-world careers flash orange. Based on these three worlds and the employee profile for each such scenario, this paper aims to outline the profile of teachers, so that it can be interpreted as part of the corporate world, and as a militant activist and ecologically, as a member of the guild and professional portals. We will try to answer the question whether the current training is sufficient, or the teacher the world of tomorrow will be to complete the profile with new abilities and skills, the nature of the world to meet future challenge. This paper looks at the Korean language classroom as a cultural hybrid of Korean and perceived American culture. It is based around the idea of the language classroom as a subculture. Through discussions of classroom geography, Confucianism, and identity construction, the paper concludes that this hybrid subculture offers an opportunity to explore new cultural identities within a subculture without having to join subcultural groups in normal life. The paper concludes this is significant since teachers need to be prepared with accurate intercultural expectations. The paper offers that more empirical research in specific teacher/student and student/student relationships is needed, as well as looking at other cultures to see if classroom cultural hybridity is unique to Korea. The common, basic course is becoming more widespread among Communication departments across the country. By drawing on Bakhtin's notion of heteroglossia, this paper suggests that the common classroom experience privileges certain individuals and ways of knowing by silencing the many voices that exist in a classroom situation. As such, this paper initiates a "radical" departure from the colonial branding of contemporary Communication curricula and the common classroom in a move toward a more democratic and critical engagement of course "instruction." Although a radicalized notion of a critical Communication pedagogy rejects formulaic prescriptions of teaching, the final part of the paper offers concrete examples for how a more democratic pedagogy, which recognizes diversity and difference, can exist for Communication departments. Introduction. Genre analysis is an approach to study communication patterns and thus it can be applied to the specific context of meetings. This research investigates the use of genre analysis in the design of electronic meeting systems. Background. The primary goal of genre analysis is to understand how virtual communities use digital communication to collaborate. This knowledge is fundamental for informing the design of information systems, particularly in areas where communication and informality are paramount. However, the research literature does not report any experiments where genre analysis has been used to inform the design of electronic meeting systems. Problems. The paper tackles the following common problems found in current electronic meeting systems: (1) reduced organizational integration, neglecting many contextual cues and explaining factors necessary to make meeting outcomes usable within the organization; (2) lack of support to specific communities of users, stressing the dependency on a facilitator to configure and manage the technology; and (3) lack of support to meeting occurrences that span long time periods. Conclusions. The paper describes how genre analysis was used to develop electronic meeting systems for several organizations and meeting genres. It covers the complete design process, from genre elicitation to validation. The obtained results demonstrate that the genre approach produces electronic meeting systems focused on organizational integration, pre-configured to communities of users, supporting long-term usage and added organizational value. Background. The question whether old media are driven out of existence by new media has been a long concern in academic and industrial research but has received no definitive answer. Aim. This paper goes beyond most previous studies of Internet impact on traditional media, which have placed their relationship within a competition-based framework, to specifically investigate the complementary effect of online news and information usage on traditional sources. Method. Secondary data analysis of a national survey of 4270 Australians conducted in late 2003, employing hypothesis testing for the mean, partial correlations, and a linear regression analysis. Results. Online news and information usage at different usage levels is positively associated with the use of traditional news and information sources, especially those that are more information-intensive. Those who relied on the Internet the most for news and information still used traditional sources substantially. Conclusion. The findings suggest that even if a displacement effect takes place, there will be no replacement (absolute displacement): traditional media will still exist to complement the Internet in serving human beings' news and information needs.
