The paper examined the challenges of maintenance of paper based archival information materials and strategies for enhancement in academic libraries in South East, Nigeria which doubled as the objectives of the study. Descriptive survey research method was used for the study. The population consisted of 277 library staff in academic libraries of government owned institutions. Questionnaire and structured interview guide was used to collect data which was analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Mean scores and standard deviation were used to analyze data generated for the two research questions while ttest was used for the hypothesis. Real limits of numbers were used to determine the bench mark. The major findings of the study showed the challenges involved in maintenance of archival materials to include inadequate funding and tropical climate that breeds insects. The strategies involved in archival maintenance practices include: recruiting adequate personnel in libraries, provision of maintenance policies, adequate funding of libraries for proper maintenance of archives, proper control of insect by the use of insecticides and adequate training of maintenance personnel. The hypothesis tested revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean ratings between the male and female library staff in respect to strategies for maintenance practices of paper based archival paper materials in the academic libraries. Due to the increasing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) in developed countries, this paper examines the adoption of AI for effective library services in academic libraries in Nigeria. The paper defines artificial intelligence while chronicling its history. He also identified the advantages of adopting artificial intelligence in academic libraries, which include ease of use, endless functionality, and the ability to perform complex work, among others, and the challenges faced by library management towards adopting artificial intelligence, which include financial uncertainty, job loss, and technological defects, among others. The paper concluded that adoption of AI in academic libraries sets a new level of efficient and effective library service delivery, but adoption in developing countries such as Nigeria is low due to some identified challenges. The quality of teaching and learning is the key to sustainable development. This has inspired innumerable educational stakeholders to search for means of restoring quality teaching and learning in Nigeria's education system. To accomplish this, significant epistemological efforts have been made over the years on teaching methods/models, student learning styles, and curriculum content reforms. However, the role of academic libraries has not been given any significant consideration. It is, therefore, the conviction of this paper that sustainable development depends profoundly on the availability of information provided and accessed through a well-managed library for effective teaching, learning, and research. So, using desktop literature review and the author's experience, this paper examines the roles of academic libraries in restoring quality teaching and learning for sustainable development in Nigerian institutions of higher learning. This paper expounds the application and perceived impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic libraries in Nigeria. Libraries especially in developing countries may become moribund in the 21 century unless they begin to harness new, smart and intelligent technologies for improved operations and service delivery. The introduction of assistive resources within academic libraries in the 20th century positively affected library users (patrons) since they eased information access challenges for patrons living with impairments. However, most academic libraries in developing countries are still grappling with challenges relating to ensuring adequate services to patrons with visual impairment. Given this problem, this paper seeks to provide a better overview and understanding of what provisioning of assistive resources entails. ICT has greatly changed how research, teaching and learning is done. In the past, these activities were aided mainly by manual databases consisting of paper or print material records. However, over the period of time this has dramatically changed to digital electronic formats such as portable document format (PDF). The goal of this paper was to examine the use of online databases by Nuclear Scientists of Ghana Atomic Energy Commission and review the literature available. A systematic review of 20 articles from 1970 to 2021 was conducted. The review covered studies on both quantitative and qualitative research approaches both locally and abroad. The findings revealed that from the older literature, awareness of the existence of online databases by patrons in their institutions was low. However from the current literature the trend has changed with patrons now been much aware of these online databases. Some problems identified as hindering the access to online databases included low bandwidth speed, and cost of infrastructure which are stumbling blocks especially in developing countries of which Ghana is a part. Recommendations included the provision and expansion of infrastructure, training programmes, information literacy, subscription to current and relevant online databases, conducting regular surveys and funding and financing of electronic resources. The paper discussed the employment of competitive intelligence for improving patronage of the 21st century academic libraries. It explored literature on; the concept of competitive intelligence, characteristics of the twenty first century academic library, attributes of competitive advantage in academic libraries and competitive intelligence activities in Nigerian academic libraries. It was discovered that funds and the necessary skill-sets were required for an academic library to develop to the point of having a competitive edge over other libraries. Also literature revealed that only few libraries especially private university libraries were already treading the path of gaining the competitive advantage for attracting increased patronage. The paper concluded that having competitive advantage is a function of better application of knowledge gained through competitive intelligence as a major factor for staying relevant and be able to attract the 21st century academic sophisticated library clientele. Also adequate provision of funds for innovation and upscale facilities and services is key to attracting patrons. The paper is about Application of Technology Resources to Library Information Processing in Academic Libraries in Nigeria. The electronic age has made users search beyond print media while looking for information resources. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to promote and share the research output of Bennett University (BU), India through Digital Repository Services (DRSs). It aims at encouraging, assisting and accelerating the research fraternity of the university. Design/methodology/approach -- This paper explains about the initiatives adopted by the LRC at BU for developing DRS using open-space software, Dspace for long-term preservation of intellectual assets and increase the visibility of the institute in global landscape. Findings -- DRS at BU was developed with an aim to preserve and disseminate the intellectual assets of BU, encourage budding talents and increase BU's visibility in global landscape. Despite the constraints at the experimental phase, DRS at BU collected over 707 publications (October 2021) and the number is ever increasing. Though there were some initial glitches before and after the implementation process but keeping a flexible approach, LRC will continue mapping solutions for BU. Originality/value -- This paper briefs the case study of one of the core services' initiation (DRS) including its design, development and implementation at LRC-BU using open-source software Dspace (Version 5.5). More than seventy online studies were reviewed to identify awareness, usage, satisfaction, and challenges of using information resources and services in academic libraries by users. The main objective of this study is to review the literature on information resources and services regarding awareness, usage, impact, challenges, satisfaction levels of users of various academic libraries. The study includes research papers published in national and international journals and other sources available on the internet. A review of various studies revealed that users use library resources and services for various purposes. Studies reveal that most users are satisfied with print resources, but they face problems while accessing online resources due to lack of skills to use these resources. Most students today rely on online resources, but a lack of training prevents them from getting the information they need. Most of the studies have suggested that the library should play an important role in providing information literacy program and user studies at regular intervals in their institutions to provide better library and information services to the users. This paper reports an examination of effective serials management practices in some academic libraries in Niger state. The study specifically investigated the types of serial materials in the libraries. It also examined the acquisition methods as well as methods applied in organizing serial materials in the studied libraries. Challenges bedeviling effective management of serial information sources also form the objective. The study further made a review from different sources on management of serials in libraries. The population of the study consisted of twenty three (23) staff manning the serials units of the affected libraries. Questionnaire and observation check-list were used as the instruments for data collection. 23 copies of questionnaire and observation check-list were distributed, filled and completely (100%) returned for data analysis. Descriptive statistics of frequency and percentages was used for data analysis. The study revealed that Newspapers, magazines and academic journals are the major serial materials available in the academic libraries. Direct purchase from book vendors, Constant subscription of physical serials and online databases were the main methods applied in acquiring serials in the libraries. It discovered that shelving and shelf reading, carding among other were the organizational techniques adopted by the libraries. Paucity of funds, Inadequate ICT facilities as well as inadequate working tools was the factors bedeviling effective serials management in the libraries. The study thus recommended among others that adequate funds be allocated to the libraries, online subscription be enhanced, conducive working environment for library personnel, independent power sources be provided to the academic libraries. The paper examines the awareness and adoption of mobile technology-based library services in Federal Polytechnic in Southwest Nigeria. To achieve the set objectives, the study adopted descriptive survey with a mixed method that is quantitative and qualitative approaches. The targeted population for the study was registered users for 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions of Federal Polytechnics in Southwest Nigeria. The sample size for the study was 390 registered users which represented 10% of the student's population and 10 library staff was justified by the recommendation made by Nwana (1992). The convenience sampling technique was be used. The data were analysed using Statistical Products for Service Solutions (SPSS) version 22.0. The study revealed that there is profound appreciation and demand for mobile technology-based library services among students of the Federal Polytechnics in Southwest Nigeria, which is yet to be met. It was also revealed that library management plan to introduce the following mobile technology- based library services in the future; mobile online public access catalogue (MOPAC), mobile SMS alert services among others. It was concluded that there is a strong awareness of mobile technology- based library services among students. The study recommended that academic libraries should put in place a program to continuously develop their human resources through recruitment and professional training; there must be a culture of training for the entire library staff to ensure that they keep abreast with trends and changes in technology in relation to library service provision among others. This paper studied the impact of industrial action on academic libraries in Nigerian Universities. The study adopted descriptive survey design with one research question and one hypothesis was formulated. The population of the study comprised of entire students and staff (academic and non-academic) of Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi and Benue State University formed the population of the study these give a total figure of 59,039. Sample size and sampling Technique Out of a population figure of 59,039, a sample size of 810 was chosen using Taro Yamen technique. Method of data collection was Questionnaire, oral interview and participant observation were used in gathering primary data. The data analysis of the study was based on the responses obtained through the research instruments. These were tabulated and computed using mean(x) percentage (%) chi-square (x2) and T-test statistics. Chi-square was chosen to test the hypotheses of the study and analyzed with stratified package for the social sciences (SPSS) version 21 while T-test was used to compute significant difference in students' results taken in academic session that was disrupted by strike and the one that was not in selected departments in Federal University of Agriculture and Benue State University Makurdi. Evolution is one recurrent phenomenon that affects almost every facet of human endeavour. Libraries have had their own share in many ways. The green library concept, although, a relatively new-sprung initiative, have not been given full attention. The understanding of librarians, and the levels of adoption of the green library concept in Nigeria is reported herein. The descriptive survey approach was used. Results showed that librarians have the right perception about the concept, and have implemented or currently translating their policies, practices, and services in compliance with environmental sustainability objectives. However, much more needs to be done as the libraries also have not sufficiently engaged in climate change sensitization activities with patrons or their immediate community. The libraries do not collect rain water, recycle paper or reduce the use of plastics as stipulated. In implementing the initiative, low awareness, poor funding, lack of collaboration with environmental agencies among others have bedeviled their efforts. The establishment of a Nigerian Green Building Council (NGBC) for building standardisation with the support of the Nigerian Library Association is thus recommended for on-thespot redesigning of already built antique libraries. This paper examined the online social networking tools used as techniques for effective marketing of services in selected academic libraries in Imo State. The study was guided by three research questions and objectives. A survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was fifty nine (59); comprising Heads of departments/units and librarians working in the libraries studied. The population also served as the sample due to its manageable nature, hence the adoption of census enumeration technique. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics involving mean scores. The findings revealed that: the mostly used social networking tools to market library products and services in the academic libraries studied are Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter; that some of the benefits of social networking tools in academic libraries are: promotion of library resources; knowledge creation and sharing among libraries/librarians; helping to publicize special events and programmes of the library; enhancing research and scholarly publications among librarians and others; and that the academic libraries are being affected by a lot of challenges in their quest to use social networking tools to market their products and services to the public which include, inadequate funding, lack of qualified ICT librarians, network problems, erratic power supply, among others. It was therefore recommended that academic libraries should endeavour to embrace other forms of social networking tools in addition to Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter to market their products and services to users and install solar energy in order to tackle the issue of erratic power supply. This paper describes the transactional patterns of Ebook Library (EBL), one of the aggregator platforms owned by ProQuest, e-book titles at the Edith Cowan University (ECU), Western Australia to know the way and extent of usage. This study is longitudinal, involving three years’ worth of EBL usage data, investigating information seeking behavior by scholarly users of e-books employing statistical log analysis of the metadata datasets (logs) that describe e-book use. This study compares three years’ transaction logs for EBL e-book titles used by the ECU community. The metrics used include aggregate trends, views, minutes spent, titles used, users, academic calendar, sessions, searches, and item type. This paper may be useful for librarians to make evidence-based informed decisions while selecting the e-book acquisition model of aggregator/supplier platforms. Since 1986, when library anxiety phenomenon was first mentioned by Mellon, numerous scientific papers have been written on this subject. The main purpose of this paper is to analyse and summarize existing scientific literature regarding library anxiety with a special emphasis on academic libraries. Purpose: This paper makes a broad investigation on the libraries of universities in Gujarat, India. The paper features the job of library experts in checking book robbery, mutilation, vandalism, and planning strategy to control and beat the issue in scholastic libraries. This examination additionally explores the security challenges in the libraries of universities. The investigation expects to distinguish the causes and defenselessness of book burglary, mutilation and vandalism and the weakness of library arrangements and safety efforts. Methodology: The examination depends on information got through the dispersion of survey in the colleges of Gujarat to know the present circumstance of library and the familiarity with library experts in regards to human/man-made security. It was an organized survey planned for gathering information from the library experts in Gujarat, India. Findings: The percentage of weakness is less than 50% for unsecured windows, multiple entries/exits, and untrained library staff and unfamiliarity with proper security techniques. Most of the libraries have CCTV cameras, but very few libraries have RFID systems. More than 74% libraries take inventory regularly, fifty percentage data received that librarians' workplace under lock and key system and 87% libraries operate by single door entry-exit. Originality: The result of this research contribute to all the academic university libraries regarding the security against theft, mutilation, vandalism. This study also aware the libraries regarding the upgraded and viable security through sufficient enrollment, preparing, library strategy and selection of innovation like CCTV and RFID. Research Limitation: This study has been carried out on only academic libraries of Gujarat state in India from the perspectives of human/manmade security. Practical implications: The important result in this study is that the enough text books is required to reduce the theft. Library have to change the rules of circulation and increase the loan period for books. Unawareness also observed from student side and at the time of examination they are suffer for the library books. Many libraries are not implemented grills on widow for security purpose. Library policy have to update as per the requirement and implementation is also necessary to control human security. The significant implication is RFID system not available in many libraries due to budget issue for that university management could develop the additional budget on security measures for libraries. The main objective of this paper is to justify the need for Nigerian libraries which have not automated their functions to adopt of Koha ILMS as their automation software. The paper therefore examined the need for automation, the reasons for the choice of Koha ILMS and potential benefits accruable to the libraries, and functions that Koha can facilitate their perform in their libraries. The paper identified the need for automation to include need to handle information explosion, for effective management of library operations, to improve operation speed, resource sharing etc; the choice of Koha was informed by its features and benefits which include Koha in Nigeria libraries could be linked to its powerful features which include MARC 21 compatibility, Z39.50 search, Customizability to suit individual library needs and taste, sustainability etc; the paper identified the library operations facilitated by Koha to include acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, patron management, OPAC etc. the paper however highlighted data migration and lack of skilled manpower as limitations to Koha adoption. As part of feasibility study, the committee should visit libraries where Koha is in use for on the spot assessment. Purpose -The purpose of the paper is to recognize different errands and responsibilities that the UAE academic libraries must undertake towards the trendy changes in researchers' information seeking behavior, and fulfill to the advancements carried in by the emergence of Research 2.0. Design/methodology/approach- The researchers comprehensively reviewed the appropriate literature related to the academic libraries' activities viz., information literacy (IL) education, research data services (RDS), awareness-raising, and support individual faculty members in the United Arab Emirates. Findings - The UAE librarians organize information literacy education for the students of all programs, primarily to research scholars and faculty in both Arabic and English languages. The faculty members are supported with discipline-specific databases, print and digital versions of books and journals along with other online services. The main focus of the present research study reports on the information services, status of library building, sections and infrastructure facilities in selected Government Degree Colleges Libraries of North Costal Andhra Pradesh, India. Out of the 15 libraries studied, 10 do not have a separate building for library and they are housed either in administrative or part of class rooms. The degree college libraries of Srikakulam district have reported with adequate furniture, space for users, seating accommodation and toilet facilities. To understand the services offered to the users under the information services are studied-the reference services, question papers services and news paper clipping services are reported in all the studied 15 libraries. Since the adoption of the sustainable development goals, Nigeria has continued to demonstrate its commitment to the SDGs promise through leadership and ownership of the implementation process. Despite the government continued demonstration and commitment to the SDGs promises, it is observed that these goals have not had any desirable impact or effect on the rural communities as poverty level is still high, health condition and over all well-being is poor and mortality rate is on the increase not to mention the number of out of school children. To forestall the deterioration that would accrue from non-realization of the SDGs in rural communities, this paper explored Nigerian academic libraries as an alternative to delivering Sustainable Development Goals to rural communities. It discussed the potential of academic libraries in Nigeria towards deliveringSustainable Development Goals to the rural communities since some of the libraries are situated in the rural areas. Academic librarians from two academic libraries in Imo State were used for the study. Descriptive survey research method was adopted to investigate a total population of 45 Academic librarians while structured questionnaire was used to collect data for the research out of which 31 were duly filled and returned for analysis. Findings shows that academic libraries possess some potentials in delivering sustainable development goals to the rural communities. It also listed some strategies that will help in actualizing this programme to include organizing sensitization campaign on the different SDGs to rural communities, Partnering with health-related NGOs for health activities and Repackaging information for user. The study also identified some challenges affecting the accomplishment of these programmes by academic libraries to include administrative bottlenecks from university management, inadequate finance to cater for logistics and implementation, poor relationship between university and rural communities, societal and environmental threats. Academic libraries play a key role in the promotion of user centered services through the provision of information resources and services for the information needs of the library clienteles. With the emergence of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the traditional library services have no place in satisfying the curiosity of the library users. This paper looked at the traditional and hybrid services that are easy to access and more convenient for the library users as a way of promoting clientele centered services in academic libraries. Collection development policy (CDP) is an essential working tool for effective collection development activities as it provides guidelines for selection, acquisition, evaluation, and weeding of library materials. However, despite its importance in developing library collection, collection development policy (CDP) has not yet been implemented in most academic libraries in Nigerian and this has greatly affected the collection development activities of the library. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine factors that could facilitate CDP implementation in Nigerian academic libraries as perceived by academic librarians. The study employed a quantitative methodology using a survey research design. One hundred and thirty-six (I36) academic librarians were recruited from three selected academic libraries in the Northwestern zone of Nigeria using random sampling. A paper-based questionnaire was used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The findings of the study revealed that factors that could facilitate CDP implementation are librarians' awareness of the importance of CDP, knowledge of CDP, and management support. Hence, to ensure CDP implementation in Nigerian academic libraries, the librarians must not only be made aware of the importance of CDP but must also be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for CDP implementation. Also, library management support is necessary for CDP implementation. This study has contributed to the body of knowledge by exploring the vital factors that could facilitate CDP implementation and tried to resolve the important issue of CDP implementation by developing a framework. The importance of Social media in academic libraries cannot be denied and overstated. The rapidly growing need for social media and its associated tool are creating problems and comfort for both uses and producers. The academic libraries have accepted the changes due to the demand, need, and expectation of library users. The prime objectives of the study were to find out the perception, use, issues, factors and marketing among the library professional in academic libraries of Balochistan, the descriptive survey method were used to complete this paper. The sample size was comprised of 67 library professionals. The data has been collected through structured questionnaires. The collection has been analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of the study revealed that Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and LinkedIn were the top using social media among academic library staff. The library staff uses these media to disseminate library services. The findings expressed that social media also used for the marking of library services. On the other hand some of the issues that were creating problems for the library staff to prevent using social media such as poor internet, authority support too many social media to learn, and so on. On the basis of these findings, some recommendations have been forwarded that the higher authority should incorporate internet facilities that enable library staff to use social media. Resource sharing is an important and widely well-known concept in the field of library science. The concept is recognized by the term library networking which deals with the interconnection of libraries so that the participating libraries can share information and resources effectively. It aids to overcome the limitations like enormous cost of purchase, bibliography handling, storage of material etc. as a result of the exponential growth in the information produced. Resource sharing is a solution to optimize library resources. Thus, resource sharing in libraries has become essential in current scenario, and it commands world-wide acceptance. The paper is on capacity building for sustainable digital information services in 21st century administration of academic libraries in Nigeria. Capacity building is termed as the building or the development of organization's facilities, equipment, provisions, features, amenities, infrastructures and resources (human and physical) to foster growth and expansion. The role of the library is vital in all types of education - traditional as well as distance mode. The purpose of this paper is to know the distance learner's satisfaction with library resources, services and facilities in Kuvempu University Library. This study used questionnaire-based survey method to collect the data from the PG distance students of Kuvempu University. 1435 questionnaires were distributed, out of which 1435 duly filled in questionnaires were received back. The study suggested that advanced training for users at different levels should be started. The paper considered leadership and innovation behaviours in the academic libraries of the 21st century. Based on an extensive review of literature it explored concepts in leadership behavior that can engender innovation in academic libraries. It was discovered that change is inevitable in environment due to the emergence of a pervasive application of information technology and communication to its operations. The study aimed to determine the information resources provided to remote clients by the distance education academic libraries in Gauteng Province of South Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. The positivism research paradigm anchored this paper and used the quantitative research approach. Microsoft Form was used to design the questionnaire to collect data from the academic library staff. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis. Cluster sampling was adopted as the actual number of the target population was not known. The findings revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic brought changes in the provision of information resources to remote clients in academic libraries in a distance education environment in the Gauteng province of South Africa; therefore, adaptation is essential for advancement in academic libraries operating in the distance education environment. Purpose: This paper examined the challenges to transforming library and information services (LIS) for effective service delivery in three academic libraries in Imo state. Design/Methodology/Approach: The survey method was adopted for this study with questionnaire as the instrument for data collection. The target population comprises of library and information science professionals in three academic libraries in Imo State Nigeria. Availability and purposive sampling techniques was used to select the participant. The generated data were analysed using descriptive statistics, frequency counts and percentage was well illustrated. Findings: The findings revealed the challenges to effective transformation of academic libraries in the 21st century to include: poor funding, indifferent attitudes of library managers, absence of well-defined and uniform library policies and non-compliance with the demands of ICT. Transformation of library and information centres is all about improving product and services offered in Nigerian libraries to meet the needs and demands of knowledge society. Among other benefits, it enhances the capability of libraries to contribute positively to the reality of knowledge society in contemporary Nigerian society. Virtual reference services (VRS) is increasingly being implemented and used to muster increase real time interaction between library users and the libraries. While the implementation and the use of the VRS in academic libraries is growing rapidly in today’s world, particularly in the developed countries, in the developing countries, the development has recorded a medium of success. This study presents an extensive synthesis of literature on VRS from different electronic databases, including EbscoHost, Elsevier, Emerald, Google Scholar, JSTOR, Science Direct and Taylor & Francis Online. Consequently, four commonly used VRS communication technologies that can help ease the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in meeting library user’s information needs are presented. Purpose The main purpose of this study is to determine the awareness and extent use of Web 2.0 technology in the academic libraries of Islamabad, Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach The survey research methods was employed in this exploratory study through google forms on Awareness of Web 2.0 tools, the questionnaire were distributed among 100 library professionals of 43 Public and private sector universities based on Islamabad were selected for this study, 72 questionnaires were received, showing a response rate of 72% per cent, the data were scrutinized and tabulated using MS Excel 2010 and SPSS. Findings -The study imply that the young library professionals are more interested in the activities of web 2. technology. In Web 2.0 applications the social networking sites are more usable for the marketing library services, so these tools can be used in order to provide latest and up-to-date information to the end users. The time consumption and and fear of misusing peroneal information are some major obstacles by using Web 2.0 technologies in the library services. Research limitations/implications As this research covering only Islamabad region of Pakistan, so, the research in future may be conducted in order to know more about these kind of applications in future in library services of Pakistan. This paper investigated the provision of library services for people in wheelchairs in two university libraries in Tanzania. The paper studied access to the information materials collected in the libraries and the building structure of the two university libraries. At a wider aspect the paper looked at significance of access to library information as the basic right, specifically in higher learning institutions. The study used pragmatism paradigm which is a mixed method approach. Statistical package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23 was used to analyze quantitative data while thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data. The results revealed that the two academic libraries are not complying with library universal services to users in wheelchairs. The study therefore suggested that the libraries should strive to offer services that are inclusive to all users including those in wheelchairs. It was also recommended that the two libraries should formulate policies that would cover issues on the provision of library services for physically challenged users. In addition, it was suggested that library buildings should be modified to accommodate users with developmental disabilities, particularly, those in wheelchairs to access housed resources. The paper aims to present the results of a survey of academic libraries about the adoption and perceived impact of Web 2.0 technologies. A total of 26 college libraries affiliated with Solapur University participated among the members. It was found that each library was using some form of technology, such as RSS, blogs, social networking sites, wikis, and instant messaging. Analyzing the entire college web technology usages, it is observed from the results that most of the web technologies are not used by the mainstream of the users due to lack of awareness, training, etc. Accurate and appropriate training should be conducted by the colleges' Libraries according to the necessities of the users. Theses and projects constitute a very important aspect of resource materials found in libraries. They are not published by any conventional means. This makes it a necessity for libraries to ensure that they are properly processed, preserved and made accessible for teaching, learning and research. This paper looks at the management of theses and projects in selected university libraries in Ogun State of Nigeria. The paper discovered that the methods of processing these materials include indexing and classification among various other methods. The major facilities for shelving and storing theses and projects as evident in the research are wooden shelves and cabinets. In order to checkmate the entrance of pests and rodents, eating is prohibited in the theses section. This helps in preservation of the materials. It was discovered that only twenty four respondents attested to digitization as a means of preserving the resources. The use of CCTV in monitoring the misuse of theses and projects is not a common practice. Only sixteen respondents maintained that CCTV are installed in the theses section of the library. The research also discovered that the major problems hindering effective theses and projects management include lack of storage facilities, insufficient skilled manpower, and lack of fund, among others. The work finally recommends that theses and projects should be catalogued, classified and abstracted. This paper presents findings for a research study which investigated the information behaviour of final students of Mzuzu University in Malawi. Even after being imparted with necessary skills in how to search and locate relevant information, the author observed that students still find difficulties to find information that they require. A paper based questionnaire was designed and administered to two hundred and fifty four (254) final year students belonging to the five faculties of the University of which two hundred and forty three (243) responded to the questionnaire A mixed method questionnaire survey was used. Stratified sampling in which students were divided into different strata according to the faculty they belong to was adopted. The Kuhlthau's Information Search Process model was used as a guiding theoretical framework for this study. The results show that most of the students relied heavily on the Internet (64.6%), search engines like Google (56.2%) and the OPAC (45%). When searching for information, the majority of students did not use truncation (98.3%) or Boolean logic (98.8%). This paper aims to primarily investigate among faculty the reasons for non use of library services and resources at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the category of non users and also how to improve usage. The study adopts a descriptive survey design. Fifty-six (56) out of 1018 faculty respondents were identified as non users and this formed the basis of the study. Data was mainly collected by questionnaire. The information sources respondents mostly used included their own textbooks; Internet; electronic journals and ebooks etc. Reasons adduced for non use of library services included: no time to visit the library; no need for the library; the library is uninviting; buy my own books; and difficulty to find books in the library. It was recommended that to stem the tide of non use, the academic libraries must reinvent themselves and create room for user driven services and resources, redesign floor spaces, bridge communication gap between the library and prospective users. Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to investigate the present status of RFID application, benefits realised after implementing RFID, problems faced during RFID adoption and its implementation in the libraries and information centres of Northern India. Design/methodology/approach - The survey method of research was adopted in this research. In order to assess the required information about the implementation of RFID technology from the librarian/Incharge of the library of the nine selected institutions of Northern India, the data was collected through a questionnaire method. Moreover, the respondents were also interviewed to obtain more information. Findings - The present study shows that all the selected libraries in Northern India are in the initial stages of RFID implementation and they are realizing the benefits of its implementation which include reduction in queue at circulation desk /counter, extended hours of circulation without additional staff, library collection has become more secure, etc. At the same time, library staff is facing some problems with the use of RFID technology. Research limitations/implications - The present study is limited to the Central, State and Deemed universities recognised by the UGC and IITs situated in Northern region of India which have implemented RFID in their libraries. Further, due to time and cost restrictions, it was not possible to cover all type of institutions. Practical implications - It is hoped that the outcome of the present study will give some useful suggestions/recommendations to the librarians who have implemented RFID technology in terms of its better utilisation and at the same time, it will also help the librarians who want to implement RFID system in their libraries. Social implications - Across the world, university libraries are increasingly adopting and implementing RFID solutions to provide better and efficient library services such as self checkout/check-in of library materials, security of library books and efficient tracking of library materials throughout the library. As a small number of libraries in India have introduced RFID, it is high time to study the application of RFID technology in libraries, keeping in view its problems and benefits. Motivation is of enormous importance with regard to enhancing performance in any organisation. This paper discusses motivation and performance of librarians in public universities in Ghana. The study examined motivation of librarians, the effect of motivation on performance, the views of librarians on motivation, the level of satisfaction of librarians and the effort the public university managements are making to motivate librarians. Through literature review, the concept of motivation and its effects on performance were discussed. Using a survey method, questionnaire were designed and distributed to seventy-two targeted librarians in six public universities in Ghana, out of this, sixty returned the duly completed questionnaire. The questionnaire sought to identify intrinsic and extrinsic factors which motivate librarians and how it affects their performance. The study revealed that the motivational level of librarians in public universities in Ghana is high and that the motivational level affects majority of librarians positively. The public university managements have made some efforts to motivate librarians but they need to do more to improve the current situation. The study concludes with some recommendations on how to improve motivational systems in place in public university libraries. The discussions in the paper provides some insights into intrinsic and extrinsic factors that motivate librarians in public universities in Ghana. The paper will therefore be of great value to managers in the public university libraries in Ghana and other developing countries in getting the best out of their staff if adequately motivated. Electronic resources are becoming an integral part of the modern education system, especially in higher education settings. Due to the need of medical professionals for high quality, authoritative, relevant, accurate and timely information, students studying in healthcare institutions need to know the various e-resources and the best suitable way to track and access them in order to support their learning and evidence-based medical practice. The present study has tried to assess and compare the awareness and usability level of medical students of two different colleges at Al-Jouf University in using the subscribed electronic resources. The main purpose was to determine students' knowledge and use of e-databases, and to identify the areas in which further training and research needed. A questionnaire, supplemented by an unstructured interview was used to collect data from 300 randomly selected undergraduate medical students. The study found that the awareness and utilization level of students related to available e-databases varied significantly especially when comparing individual colleges and databases. The overall knowledge and use of e-databases by medical students was much higher than the dental students and those who were aware of the existence of e-resources found using e-books' databases more than those containing journal publications and EBM. The overall low response from dental students and lack of e-resources useful to them, are very much evident from the study. The study also found that those dissatisfied with the subscribed e-resources tend to use general search engines and databases of other university in order to meet their information needs. The paper concludes that the medical students lack the necessary information literacy skills needed to meet their academic and research requirements. It is recommended that the medical librarians and faculty should come together and intensify their efforts through proper information literacy programs in order to educate students how to use these resources effectively.
