Management of the patient with cirrhosis of the liver that requires surgical treatment has been relatively unexplored. In Mexico, there is currently no formal stance or expert recommendations to guide clinical decision-making in this context.

This study delves into the dynamic evolution of solids content in a pilot-scale through air drying tissue machine, aiming to enhance comprehension and refine optimization strategies for tissue manufacturing. It focuses on development of solids content throughout the process. Analyzing the interaction between process parameters and solids content provides deeper insights into water removal dynamics. The research employs solid contents monitoring techniques in pilot scale, offering a detailed view of solids content evolution from the wet web’s inception to the final tissue product. It significantly highlights the impact of key parameters, particularly pulp refining, on solids content across all positions of the pilot machine. Additionally, the study emphasizes the influence of vacuum system configurations, identifying the relationship between energy expended in the vacuum system and evaporation energy. Furthermore, the results indicate that compression and air displacement dewatering in vacuum boxes are less speed-sensitive compared to heat-driven evaporation in the TAD- and Yankee cylinders. Solid contents at all positions in the tissue machine correlates between various dewatering elements. Optimizing site-specific dewatering and evaporation strategies can potentially save drying energy in the Yankee drying phase which hold promise for enhanced energy and resource utilization, aligning with demands for sustainable manufacturing practices.

Evaluation of physical and mechanical heterogeneity in commercial paperboards is needed to promote their use in structural applications, especially within the field of packaging. Understanding the range of their behaviors is needed to compete with other materials in the current marketplace and expand in others. This work describes the physical and stiffness heterogeneities of twelve commercial materials using tensile tests in the cross-machine direction and several inverse analyses. The effects of grammage, thickness, and apparent density on tensile stiffness were evaluated in both the linear elastic and nonlinear regimes. Thickness and density provided the best explanation for elastic heterogeneous behavior in most of the materials; local grammage was not the best descriptor for any material. The analyses used here were not able to provide a good explanation of the nonlinear behavior, which was attributed to the development of large shear strains within the materials as they neared failure. This work provides a methodology for additional heterogeneous behavior examinations.

Surface Dial is a mass production PC accessory implementing a tangible interface for on‐and off‐screen interactions. It enables a dual‐handed interaction model in content creation tasks like drawing, video editing, presentation and data visualization. We delve into design considerations, including development of a capacitive approach for on‐screen detection and tracking.

Building models are used to predict energy consumption and CO2emissions under current and future conditions and serve as a basis for building design. The most important energy saving potentials in buildings can be achieved by improving the thermal performance of building and the efficiency of the district heating system. This study investigated energy savings in buildings in cold and hot regions of China and Africa and developed a modeling approach for energy savings in heating and cooling of residential buildings. We have provided an overview of long-term scenarios for energy demand and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Using the industry-renowned software RETScreen, parameter simulations and optimizations are performed over the three time periods (currently 2030 and 2050). As a result, it was found that energy consumption has also increased and the comfort level of high-rise houses is about 10–21% higher than that of cold regions. The comfortable temperature range in these different cities is between 20°C and 29°C. We have showed the difference between the observed values and the model simulations (model bias) for HDD and CDD in cold and hot regions of China and Africa. This model represents spatial patterns and scales observed in Harbin, Shenzhen and South Africa. These features are characterized by an increased north-south gradient in eastern China, a topographically dependent distribution in western China and an associated increase in average temperature. The most commonly used types of heating in residential areas are heat pumps (31%) and district heating (21%). This is also the preferred case for condensing boilers (17%). In non-residential areas, heat pumps (32%), district heating (27%) and condensing boilers (11%) are the most commonly used heating systems. The total energy demand in Africa and China will be increased from 2020 to 2050. It is expected that the total demand for primary energy in China will be 8770 Mtoe in 2050, which corresponds to an increase in demand for primary energy of 1.9%, while Africa will see an increase of 2.7%. Final energy consumption in China and Africa will be 5776 Mtoe and 970 Mtoe respectively.

Reflective LCDs have a great advantage of low power consumption, but the brightness is not consistently sufficient because ambient light is used as a light source. To increase light efficiency, we combined reflective LCDs and the Pancharatnam‐Berry deflector (PBD), a diffractive optical element that controls the propagation of incident light. We confirmed that on‐axis brightness is increased by 2.2 times against the incident collimated light from a polar angle of 30° when compared to a reflective LCD without PBD.

Cholesteric liquid crystal (ChLC) is a reflective display technology that utilizes ambient light sources to display images, eliminating the need for a backlight. With its bistable characteristics, ChLC displays only require voltage supply during screen updates, resulting in significant energy savings. To cater to various application scenarios, we have developed ChLC reflective displays with different functionalities and sizes. The 7.9‐ inch passive matrix ChLC reflective display offers features such as full‐color capability, wide viewing angles, and fast refreshing rate, making it suitable for electronic book applications. The 24.5‐ inch and 13.3‐inch displays are respectively the largest passive matrix ChLC reflective display and active matrix ChLC reflective display in the world. They incorporate wide temperature range materials and high contrast ratio driving methods, making them highly suitable for outdoor public information display applications.

The most effective way to improve display visibility in ambient light is to suppress the reflectance of the display. After conducting a thorough analysis of the factors contributing to unwanted reflection, specific layers were identified that required improvement. Subsequently, these elements were carefully optimized, resulting in a significant reduction of internal reflection to 0.53% for our 12.3” FFS‐mode prototype, compared to 1.12% in conventional LCDs. This improvement was achieved without the use of circular polarizers and has been demonstrated to provide excellent visibility in bright ambient conditions while allowing for reduced backlight brightness and lower power consumption.

We developed a flexible imager comprising low‐temperature polycrystalline silicon thin‐film transistors and organic photodiodes. The developed flexible imager has high‐resolution and high‐speed readout characteristics. Owing to these characteristics, pulse wave signals can be measured, and the images of fingerprints and veins can be obtained. Furthermore, we developed three‐axis tactile pressure sensors by integrating flexible optical components. The sensors can detect both normal and tangential pressures.

A low‐temperature technology for fabricating thin‐film transistors (TFTs) is essential for the realization of electronic systems on flexible substrates. Presently reviewed are improved techniques for forming the source/drain regions and reducing the population of channel defects in a metal‐oxide TFT. These have been applied to the construction of different TFT structures, including ones with bottom gate, top gate, and dual gates. The utility of the improved 300‐°C technology has been demonstrated by the realization of a variety of electronic systems, such as a gate‐driver on array for active‐matrix displays, an analog front‐end for acquiring biopotential signals, and an artificial neural network for neuromorphic computing.

Here we propose a foveated image transmission and compensation strategy with a rendering compression step, a re‐compression step and a decompression step. It is realized and tested on an FPGA‐based headset tester equipped with a high‐accuracy eye tracking system. Past human factors engineering experiments are reviewed and used to determine the proper boundaries for thefoveation zone division.

Vertical, organic, light‐emitting transistors (VOLETs) combine three of the four essential components of an active matrix lightemitting diode (AMOLED) pixel ‐ the drive transistor, the storage capacitor, and the OLED stack ‐ into a single, highly‐stable, selfemissive structure. VOLETs can be manufactured on amorphous silicon (a‐Si) thin‐film transistor (TFT) backplanes to enable lowcost AMOLED displays with improved brightness and lifetime characteristics. We report on the current status of VOLET development and prospective impact on the active‐matrix display industry.

Traditional chromaticity scopes and vectorscopes have limited ability to visualize color appearance attributes, which limits color grading and color correction. A new tool based on gamut rings can monitor the lightness, chroma, and hue distributions of the pixel colors of input images in a single 2D diagram. The perceptually intuitive visualization is expected to facilitate more efficient and effective color grading, thereby broadening the market's understanding of the benefits of wide gamut displays.

The Gamut Ring Intersection diagram extends the Gamut Ring diagram by representing how the color gamut of a test device covers a reference color gamut. The means of calculating and rendering a Gamut Ring Intersection diagram will be provided, and advantages demonstrated through analysis of measured and synthetic display gamuts.

The bending radius of the flexible OLED down border was reduced to 0.15mm from 0.25mm by an improved bending model for the extremely narrow bezel mobile. The stability of the optimized bending model was demonstrated by simulation, and the preliminary production and environmental reliability were assessed too.

We developed a novel method to minimize the bezel of flexible displays through backside bonding of a chip on film, resulting in the bezel width of less than 500 μm as compared to 1000 μm of conventional displays. The metal embedded in polyimide (MEP) layer is placed between the first and second polyimide (PI) substrates and connected to the metal lines of the backplane via the MEP contact (M‐CNT) hole. Subsequently, the nonconductive film (NCF) bonding and intense pulsed light sintering are performed using conductive ink. Conductive ink as the interconnect material capable of low‐temperature sintering is applied to avert thermal degradation and crack. At a high temperature (65 ℃) and humidity (90% relative humidity), the contact resistance was a drivable level for the display after 240 h. The normalized strain in the M‐CNT hole and MEP area were less than 0.4, indicating the absence of cracks during the NCF bonding. These results demonstrated that the backside bonding method was suitable for extremely narrow bezels of the nextgeneration flexible displays.

Eye‐tracking is vital in AR/VR/MR systems for display correction, rendering, accommodation, and more. However, existing eye‐tracking solutions fall short in accuracy, efficiency, form factor, and population coverage. Using Liquid crystal polarization hologram (LCPH) for eye‐tracking purposes offers a compact form‐factor with excellent performance.

There is a growing interest in developing displays with additional functions. We propose new microLED display architectures embedding Vis/NIR/SWIR emission/sensing. In the first, addressing full‐screen fingerprint application, there is no tradeoff between sensor performance and display brightness. In the second, related to near‐field touchless display application, the proposed solution reduced significantly the complexity.

MicroIC enables display attributes unattainable from polycrystalline thin‐film transistors, and the complimentary metal‐oxide semiconductor (CMOS) microICs support a wide range of applications beyond driving pixels. Integrating sensors within displays can add value to products, reduce costs and improve performance versus conventional solutions. As evidenced by touch and display integration in mobile displays via TDDI ICs, in‐cell sensing can reduce cost and improve performance to levels that are not available with all display types. Capacitive touch, optical touch, 3D scanning, and proximity sensing can also benefit from the inherent coordination between sensors and display. We present multiple sensing architectures and demonstrations of integration within microLED displays and describe CMOS microIC circuits for touch sensing applications. With diverse heterogenous semiconductor technology tightly woven into displays, the potential for intuitive gesture controls, adaptive interfaces, and enhanced sensory feedback paves the way for more natural and effortless interactions between humans and machines.

Recent gaming monitors claim high refresh rates of ≥240 Hz with response times ≤1 ms. However, these temporal metrics do not clearly reveal their true spatiotemporal resolution, which depends on the velocity at which the images are displayed. This is the first study to demonstrate the line‐based dynamic modulation transfer function (MTF) measurement method for comparing the performances of different gaming monitors. A single line was scrolled on the monitors, and a small region of the screen was captured with a high‐speed camera during one display refresh period. The dynamic MTF results elucidate the dependence of spatiotemporal resolution characteristics on the scroll speed, refresh rate, and response time of the monitors.

This article discusses the challenges of adopting high‐resolution AMLCD in 4K MR technology. Key innovations include LTPO for improved the aperture of VR LCDs by 20‐30%, especially for highres VR, and COA to reduce transmittance issues and enhance color uniformity in 4K VR LCDs.

Thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) and phosphorescent blue organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) have been developed to overcome the relatively low triplet exciton utilization of traditional fluorescent OLEDs. However, broad emission spectra originating from charge transfer process limits the commercial application of such blue OLEDs. Herein, an effective phosphor‐sensitized fluorescent (PSF) OLED device structure was designed. PSF OLED exhibited a maximum blue index (BI) of 508 cd/A/CIEy with CIEy of 0.060, which has been the highest efficiency result reported for PSF deep‐blue OLEDs. Impressively, the sensitized OLEDs maintained blue index of 407 cd/A/CIEy, narrow emission spectra (FWHM = 17 nm) and high color purity (CIEy = 0.046), revealing the attractive technical advantages and commercial application potential.

Development of high‐precision RGB patterning process is needed to implement high‐resolution micro display (OLEDoS) for next‐generation VR/AR products. In general, specially designed and manufactured masks are required to realize above 3,000ppi high‐resolution display in structured OLED material deposition. In this study, we implemented direct laser patterning IR‐fs optical system operating in MHz and GHz burst modes and evaluated its capability for precise micro‐drilling of alumino‐borosilicate glass materials. The fine hole‐shaped pattern is produced at a minimum of 5µm pitch level for about 0.6 inch area without sacrificing the glass strength. It is expected to contribute to the high precise manufacture of ultra fine mask (UFM) using thin glass platform corresponding to micro displays in the future.

We research measurement conditions that allow omitting stray light blocking masks in camera‐based halo measurements of FALD LCDs. The stray light induced error is reduced by using high magnifications and stray light optimized hardware and test patterns. Our findings simplify halo measurements and enable simultaneous peak luminance and uniformity measurements.

The efficiency and lifetime of inkjet‐printed QD‐LED displays are improved through the ligand exchange of Cd‐free QDs and optimal control of ink formulation. Dual ligands enhance colloidal stability and carrier transport properties. The introduction of appropriate additives in the mixed solvent system improves the inkjet processibility and the morphology of inkjet printed layers.

The irreversible threshold voltage (Vth) shift by polyimide (PI) charging is experimentally demonstrated. The Vth of device without PI electrode is positively moved during the release. Interestingly, the shifted Vth is not recovered to initial value up to one month. The mechanism for the irreversibility is suggested.

High‐end MNT, NBPC OLED displays require high resolution and high‐speed driving characteristics. In addition, as an OLED backplane, a high mobility and excellent reliability characteristics of TFT are required. We have developed high mobility devices by using Indium (In‐) rich a‐IGZO. In the In‐rich a‐IGZO TFT process, a relatively large amount of oxygen is used compared to conventional a‐IGZO (In:Ga:Zn 1:1:1) in order to control the variation of the threshold voltage (VTH) caused by high carrier concentration. However, the increase in excess oxygen leads to a decrease in reliability, making it even more difficult to satisfy both VTH dispersion and reliability at the same time. We have developed a‐IGZO TFTs that have excellent reliability characteristics while satisfying VTH dispersion and mobility by controlling the vertical and lateral distribution of oxygen and hydrogen. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the 27‐inch QHD OLED monitor, which incorporates high‐mobility a‐IGZO TFTs, satisfies the product reliability characteristics.

We have achieved CR 3000:1 for 4K ADS products including MNT & TV, while balancing such specifications of GTG, transmittance, driving voltage, color gamut etc. In this article, systematic analysis have been conducted and conclusions on the influences between high CR and negative LC, RGB, PVX and high‐collimation BLU have been drawn.

Blue phosphorescent materials typically have larger capacitance compared with commercialized blue fluorescent OLEDs. To improve capacitance‐related image quality issues, we need to reduce capacitance of devices without sacrificing other device's properties such as efficiency, lifetime, and operating voltage. In this study, we analyzed devices with phosphor sensitized TADF (PST) emission devices by impedance spectroscopy and revealed that the capacitance is largely affected by giant surface potential (GSP) of consisting layers. The influence of GSP on capacitance is sensitively changed by not only GSP value but also the position of GSP layers in the device. We revealed the effect of GSP of HTL, BIL etc. and explained the mechanism underlying on this phenomena based on device simulation.

Previous research compared the motion artifacts under tracking and fixating conditions with moving stimulus and suggested that shorter duty ratios resulted in enhanced display quality by minimize motion blur in tracking condition (Hoffman et al, 2014). However, in real‐world, interactions between eye movements and stimulus motion are more intricate than their experimental setups. We investigated the interaction further by employing various eye movement and stimulus motion combinations: A. Smooth Pursuit + Moving stimulus, B. Smooth Pursuit + Stationary stimulus, C. Fixation + Moving stimulus, D. Saccade + Stationary stimulus, and E. Saccade + Moving stimulus. Participants compared short duty ratio (10%) and a long duty ratio (90%) stimuli at 60 Hz to a reference stimulus of a 100% duty ratio at 1440 Hz. Participants perceived the short duty ratio stimulus as more closely resembling the reference stimulus in condition A as in the previous study. Interestingly, in conditions B and E, participants reported the long‐duty ratio stimulus is more similar to the reference stimulus. There was no significant difference between short and long duty ratios in conditions C and D. These findings challenge the conventional assumption that less motion blur (associated with short duty ratio) is inherently more natural and suggest that even strong motion blur (associated with long duty ratio) can be perceived as more natural under specific conditions. This study underscores the importance of considering the complex interactions between eye movements, duty ratio, and stimulus motion when evaluating display image quality.

Outdoor displays become rapidly digital in our digital world. These digital displays are typically emissive, implying a very high‐power consumption to be seen in the daylight, and light pollution in nighttime. Last year Etulipa announced and demonstrated a full colour reflective display based on Electro Wetting Display technology with 10mm pixel pitch. The vertically stacked Cyan Magenta Yellow architecture yields very bright colours. The high switching speed of electrowetting cells enable displaying of video content. The power consumption is 7 W/m 2implying that the displays can run on solar systems without any need for charging from the grid. The market feedback consists of several exciting applications which are reviewed. Street furniture is expected to be a very early application. Because the typical viewing distance for street furniture applications will be in the order of meters, the pixel pitch should be in the order of millimeters. This requirement defines a technical roadmap for development of the existing electrowetting architecture.

We evaluate the geometric distortion on video see‐through (VST) head‐mounted displays (HMDs) with single‐camera and dualcamera design. We present the experimental setup and metrology for geometric calibration and VST geometric distortion measurement. Physical geometric distortion is compared to the distortion of digital content on a VST HMD. We investigate the impacts of camera misalignment and depth distance on VST geometric distortion with angular‐based distortion correction.

We have developed a “Kirameki display” that can represent a real texture of materials. (“Kirameki” means a shining/glittering sense in Japanese.) In addition, we have investigated an improvement of “texture representation” by optimization of both an optical design and a software algorithm. Lastly, we discuss the future technical fields for texture representation on displays.

Polarization Volume Hologram (PVH) waveguide is an innovative liquid crystal‐based diffractive waveguide designed for augmented reality (AR) smart glasses, showcasing exceptional optical performance and simplified fabrication process. This presentation offers a comprehensive overview, including its working principles, advantages, performance optimization, process development, challenges and opportunities. The objective is to provide insights into PVH waveguide technology, from its inception to practical implementation.

We introduce new structure of oxide TFT, providing high current in a small footprint and suitable Von. The trench TFT consisted of lateral region of high current path and thin two vertical channels. This can suppress not only channel shortening, also negative Vonshift of high current driving oxide TFT.

We developed two symmetrical green MR‐TADF emitters, BpIC‐DPA and BpIC‐Cz, based on the rigidification and regulation of molecular orbitals (MO) engineering strategies. Both emitters exhibited pure green emission with narrow FWHM below 25 nm and high PLQY over 84%. Among the fabricated OLEDs, BpIC‐Cz‐device showed maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 25.7% with alleviated efficiency roll‐off characteristics (EQE1000nits= 24.3%) and longer device‐lifetime (LT90) of 291 h at the initial luminance of 1000 nits.

We achieved a high‐luminance and highly reliable tandem organic light‐emitting diode (OLED) designed for photolithography applications by developing a new intermediate connector with resistance to water and atmospheric elements. We succeeded in fabricating a side‐by‐side (SBS) tandem OLED display by our SBS pixel‐patterning method involving organic layer etching via photolithography.

Chromatic adaptation is an important mechanism in the human visual system, allowing a relative constant color appearance under different lighting conditions, in terms of light level and color. Technologies have been developed to adjust the display white point according to the ambient light color, but did not consider the ambient light level. This study was designed based on a recent study to reveal the necessity to consider ambient light level and display luminance together, which affects the viewing mode, when adjusting the adaptive display white point.

A new flexible low‐temperature polycrystalline silicon thin film transistors (LTPS TFTs) backplane on PI substrate with organic dielectric layer and low‐stress structure of island TFT is proposed. This new extremely low stress backplane is able to withstand 20,000 inward bending cycles at a bending radius of 1mm without any noticeable TFT degradation. After 200,000 bending inward cycles at bending radius of 1 mm, the stability test results show that the change of on‐current is 10.07% for hot carrier instability (HCI) test, the change of threshold voltage ‐0.31V for negative bias thermal instability (NBTI) test, the change of threshold voltage ‐0.24V for hysteresis test, and the breakdown voltage of gate insulator 7.73MV/cm, respectively. The AMOLED display panel manufacured with organic ILD does not show any visible degradation of panel image just after 200K rolling at rolling radius of 4mm or 200K folding at folding radius of 1mm.

We as a DOOH company have developed a customized LED module which needs less resources thus lowering complexity and raising flexibility in various DOOH projects. This specific LED module saves power, require fewer spare parts and reduces logistic which results in lower overall costs.

In this work, efficient QD‐photosensitive ligand system were designed. By direct photolithography, RGB pixel arrays with a single sub‐pixel size of 39 um × 5 um were successfully prepared on patterned PM substrates. While illuminated separately, there were no residual QD emission peaks from neighbor sub‐pixel in electroluminescence spectra. Experience on the PM substrate guided the successful preparation of a 4.7‐inch 650 ppi AM‐QLED display. This was the first AM‐QLED prototype prepared by direct lithography.
