Purpose: Mastering technical procedures is a key component in succeeding as a newly graduated medical doctor and is of critical importance to ensure patient safety. The efficacy of simulation-based education has been demonstrated but medical schools have different requirements for undergraduate curricula. We aimed to identify and prioritize the technical procedures needed by newly graduated medical doctors.Methods: We conducted a national needs assessment survey using the Delphi technique to gather consensus from key opinion leaders in the field. In the first round, a brainstorm was conducted to identify all potential technical procedures. In the second round, respondents rated the need for simulation-based training of each procedure using the Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation Needs Assessment Formula (CAMES-NAF). The third round was a final elimination and prioritization of the procedures.Results: In total, 107 experts from 21 specialties answered the first round: 123 unique technical procedures were suggested. Response rates were 58% and 64% in the second and the third round, respectively. In the third round, 104 procedures were eliminated based on the consensus criterion, and the remaining 19 procedures were included and prioritized. The top five procedures were: (i) insert peripheral intravenous catheter, (ii) put on personal protection equipment, (iii) perform basic airway maneuvers, (iv) perform basic life support, and (v) perform radial artery puncture.Conclusion: Based on the Delphi process a final list of 19 technical procedures reached expert consensus to be included in the undergraduate curriculum for simulation-based education. Within the last decade, the number of technical procedures in respiratory medicine and thoracicsurgery has grown and created a higher demand for effective and evidence-based education. Today, traineesare often allowed to perform procedures unsupervised on patients after obtaining a course certificate from atheoretic course and having performed a fixed number of supervised procedures. However, these methods donot ensure adequate competence. Well-structured and effective educational programmes including validatedtests are needed to reduce economic expenses, optimize time spend, and ensure patient safety. The aim ofthis article is to summarize current state of educational strategies for technical procedures within respiratorymedicine and thoracic surgery. Thus, to discuss future recommendations for curriculum development andassessment of competences based on Kern’s framework. The approach by Kern consists of six topics, whichneeds to be considered and evaluated and in order to educate physicians and surgeons most effective andevidence-based. We present a practical guide contributing to future educators’ considerations on (I) problemidentification and general needs assessment, (II) targeted needs assessment, (III) goals and objectives, (IV)educational strategies, (V) implementation, and finally (VI) evaluation and feedback. Aircraft maintenance has always been a significantly important area as it ultimately deals with the safety of all passengers and cargo traveling in the aircraft. Aircraft mechanics that handle such operations have always been in danger concerning their safety. This study concerns with the impact of maintenance workers in an aircraft chassis maintenance. The main aim of the study is to find out whether it has a positive or negative impact on mechanics. This paper summarizes the literature outline and evidence of the relationship between certain exposures important to the maintenance of the aircraft's chassis on the health of mechanics and the causes of this. This part of the studies consisted of relevant chemical components, individual company health danger reports, and limited case study notes documenting symptoms of exposure intoxication, which may have been a result of the database and search form that was used. This study will thus result ultimately in the safety of aircraft mechanics and the methods that have to be followed in order to do so. Çalışmanın temel amacı, teknisyen üzerinde olumlu veya olumsuz bir etkisinin olup olmadığını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Bu makale, uçak gövde bakımı için önemli olan teknisyenlerin sağlığı üzerindeki belirli maruziyetler ve nedenleri arasındaki ilişkinin literatür taslağını ve kanıtını özetlemektedir. Çalışmaların bir bölümü, kullanılan veri tabanı ve arama formunun bir sonucu olabilecek ilgili kimyasal bileşenler, bireysel şirket sağlık tehlike raporları ve maruziyet zehirlenmesi semptomlarını belgeleyen sınırlı vaka çalışması notlarından oluşmaktadir. When dealing with barbells, we appreciate both the lifted weight and the technical aspect. In barbell exercises the technique of weight lifting is of outmost importance. In practice, the appreciation of the technical degree of the weightlifters’ training is not always given enough importance. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to emphasise the specific characteristics, components and methodology of learning and acquiring the weight lifting technique in barbell exercises, criteria which would help us appreciate the very important technical training.

Winkler-Schwartz et al have set out to determine if some combination of machine learning algorithms can differentiate participants according to their stage of practice (ie, neurosurgeon, fellow, senior or junior resident, or medical student) based on their performance of a complex simulated neurosurgical task. A total of 250 simulated surgical resections performed by 50 participants were studied using a prospective, observational case series design. The best-performing algorithm (K-nearest neighbor) had 90% accuracy for prediction and used 6 machine-selected metrics. Three of the 4 algorithms used in the study misclassified a medical student as a neurosurgeon.

OBJECTIVE: Simulation-based training is well recognized in the transforming field of urological surgery; however, integration into the curriculum is often unstructured. Development of simulation-based curricula should follow a stepwise approach starting with a needs assessment. This study aimed to identify technical procedures in urology that should be included in a simulation-based curriculum for residency training.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A national needs assessment was performed using the Delphi method involving 56 experts with significant roles in the education of urologists. Round 1 identified technical procedures that newly qualified urologists should perform. Round 2 included a survey using an established needs assessment formula to explore: the frequency of procedures; the number of physicians who should be able to perform the procedure; the risk and/or discomfort to patients when a procedure is performed by an inexperienced physician; and the feasibility of simulation training. Round 3 involved elimination and reranking of procedures according to priority.RESULTS: The response rates for the three Delphi rounds were 70%, 55% and 67%, respectively. The 34 procedures identified in Round 1 were reduced to a final prioritized list of 18 technical procedures for simulation-based training. The five procedures that reached the highest prioritization were cystoscopy, transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy of the prostate, placement of ureteral stent, insertion of urethral and suprapubic catheter, and transurethral resection of the bladder.CONCLUSION: The prioritized list of technical procedures in urology that were identified as highly suitable for simulation can be used as an aid in the planning and development of simulation-based training programs.

Os procedimentos técnicos da tradução foram identificados pela primeira vez no trabalho de Vinay e Darbelnet ([1958] 1977). Dentre esses procedimentos, o da adaptação foi então descrito, de forma local, como a adequação cultural ou situacional do texto da língua de partida no texto da língua de chegada. Na atualidade, mais que um procedimento local, teóricos como Bastin ([1998] 2011) consideram a prática da adaptação como um procedimento global, que envolve diversos outros procedimentos secundários de tradução. Sendo assim, os objetivos principais deste trabalho foram sistematizar uma categorização dos procedimentos secundários do processo de adaptação e aplicar tal categorização à análise de uma tradução/adaptação da peça Hamlet, de William Shakespeare, para o português brasileiro realizada por Bruno S. R. and illustrated by Sam Hart, comparing it with other traditional translations of the play whenever necessary.

To describe the clinical characteristics, indications, technical procedures, and outcome of a consecutive series of laparoscopic distal pancreatic resections performed by the same surgical team.Laparoscopic distal pancreatic resection has increasingly been described as a feasible and safe procedure, although accompanied by a high rate of conversion and morbidity.A consecutive series of patients affected by solid and cystic tumors were selected prospectively to undergo laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy performed by the same surgical team. Clinical characteristics as well as diagnostic preoperative assessment and intra- and postoperative data were prospectively recorded. A follow-up of at least 3 months was available for all patients.Fifty-eight patients underwent laparoscopic resection between May 1999 and November 2005. All procedures were successfully performed laparoscopically, and no patient required intraoperative blood transfusion. Splenic vessel preservation was possible in 84.4% of spleen-preserving procedures. There were no mortalities. The overall median hospital stay was 9 days, while it was 10.5 days for patients with postoperative pancreatic fistulae (27.5% of all cases). Follow-up was available for all patients.Our experience in 58 consecutive patients was characterized by the lack of conversions and by acceptable rates of postoperative pancreatic fistulae and morbidity. Laparoscopy proved especially beneficial in patients with postoperative complications as they had a relatively short hospital stay. Solid and cystic tumors of the distal pancreas represent a good indication for laparoscopic resection whenever possible.

The paper attempts to attract high school pupils to practice a game (basketball), whose techniques were used as drive means for developing combined motor quality – speed regime skill - only for the experimental group (grade: 10th B). In the case of the control group (grade: 10th E), the development of speed and skill was achieved by conventional drive means, complying with the requirements of the specialized syllabus. Besides highlighting the progress achieved from one test to the other, as a hypothesis, it was also examined the extent of learning the game of basketball. The experiment took place at “Constantin Brâncoveanu - Târgovişte” Technological High School, during the 2013-2014 school year. The outcomes were compared both between the two tests (in the case of the experimental group the outcomes being significant, of p = 0.01) and between groups (the outcomes being significant for the experimental group, of p> 0.01). The manners of influencing the motor performance – speed regime skill - have proven effective, after applying the means in question an improvement being recorded in the case of the pupils belonging to the experimental group, those pupils assimilating more easily the game of basketball in comparison with the ones from the control group.

Destes espécimens o patologista deverá emitir um diagnóstico, tendo, dessa forma, importante papel no estabelecimento do estadiamento clínico e patológico. A prioridade do patologista na avaliação de um tumor pulmonar, para fazer um diagnóstico histológico específico, reside na avaliação do espécimen histológico; contudo, pode ser acompanhada de preparados citológicos. Aqui pode fazer-se necessária a suplementação por técnicas histoquímicas e imunoistoquímicas. Se houver adequadas condições de fixação do tecido, técnicas especiais como microscopia eletrônica, imunoistoquímica em material congelado, citogenética e estudos moleculares poderão ser realizados. Exceção será feita se o material for muito pequeno, quando então deverá ser totalmente submetido à técnica de rotina; neste caso, se o diagnóstico não puder ser elaborado, biópsias subseqüentes poderão ser prospectivamente obtidas e direcionadas para a técnica especial de estudo. Este é o caso freqüentemente encontrado nos linfomas malignos, nos quais os espécimens de biópsia poderão ser muito pequenos e insuficientes para o diagnóstico definitivo sem imunofenotipagem. O estadiamento patológico de tumor primário de pulmão será alcançado quando houver adequado estudo macro e microscópico. Pathologists should diagnose these specimens and then participate in the clinical and pathologic staging of the tumor. The first priority of pathologists when evaluating a lung tumor with specific histologic diagnosis can usually be accomplished with routine cytological or histologic preparations. These may be supplemented as necessary with ancillary histochemical or immunohistochemical studies. If adequate diagnostic tissue is available, special studies such as electron microscopy, frozen section immunostaining, cytogenetics, and molecular studies can be performed. In the case of small specimens, all tissue should be routinely processed; if a diagnosis cannot be rendered, subsequent biopsies can be prospectively triaged for the necessary and appropriate special studies. This is typical in cases of malignant lymphoma, in which biopsy specimens may be too small for definitive diagnosis without the aid of immunophenotype studies. The pathologic staging of a primary lung tumor is contingent on appropriate gross and microscopic examination of resection specimens. Standardized and unified staging schemes are necessary for comparative and collaborative studies of lung tumors. The following approach can be applied to segmentectomy, lobectomy, pneumectomy, en bloc resections, and tracheal or bronchial sleeve resections.

VetoFocus started with the release on-line of the author’s large photo collection of clinical cases of bovine diseases, with the help of a colleague in charge of a communication’s agency. In less than five years, regular contributions from practitioners, academics and students supervised by academics greatly enriched the collection. After a strict organisation of the site, cases were divided into three headings : clinical cases, technical procedures, and a collaborative heading «I need your opinion » where diagnostic or therapeutic questions can be posted. By the end of September 2012, the website had been visited by 7458 registered users from some forty French-speaking and European countries. VetoFocus offers a platform to exchange practical knowledge between veterinary practitioners, but also between practitioners and teachers or experts, which sometimes works both ways., Le point de départ de VetoFocus a été la mise en ligne de l’importante collection photographique de cas cliniques de l’auteur, en pathologie bovine, avec l’aide d’un confrère responsable d’une agence de communication. En moins de cinq ans, les contributions régulières de praticiens, d’universitaires et d’étudiants encadrés par des universitaires, ont considérablement enrichi la collection. Après une stricte organisation du site, les cas ont été divisés en trois rubriques : cas cliniques, gestes techniques et une rubrique collaborative intitulée «J’ai besoin de votre avis» qui reçoit les questions diagnostiques ou thérapeutiques. À la fin de septembre 2012, le site avait été consulté par 7458 inscrits depuis une quarantaine de pays francophones et de pays européens.
