Tissue-resident memory T cells (TRMs) are plentiful in the memory T cell pool and persist in barrier sites without recirculating. Increasing evidence has shown that some kinds of CD8+ TRMs and CD4+ TRMs are resident in the gastrointestinal tract (GI), playing an important role in the context of microbiota-immune interactions, infections, maintenance of tissue homeostasis, and tumor surveillance. Although sharing some similar phenotypes, functional properties, and transcriptional regulation with other tissue-TRMs, gastrointestinal tract TRMs (GI-TRMs) have unique phenotypic and functional characteristics reshaped by the local microenvironment. In this review, we will summarize current knowledge on the regulation, maintenance, and function of the CD8+ TRMs and CD4+ TRMs in GI, exploring how these cells contribute to local immune defense, tissue homeostasis, and tumor surveillance.

Changes and challenges in employment are inevitable under the measures enacted to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. Early evidence suggests that the pandemic would disproportionately affect women compared to men. Focussing on women workforce in construction, this exploratory study examines the challenges associated with changes in their job situations, the adopted strategies in addressing the challenges and their opinions on employment situation of women workforce during the pandemic. Results of a content analysis show that the top ranked challenges are: (i) overworked; (ii) working space; (iii) social interactions; (iv) collaboration; and (v) parenting. The most cited strategies in addressing these challenges are: (i) increased visual communication; (ii) a dedicated workspace; (iii) self-scheduling; (iv) flexible working arrangements; and (v) breaking out work time and personal time. The evidence is suggestive that most challenges are interrelated, and the strategies adopted by the respondents are multi-level and interdependent. The results also show that the most mentioned opinion is the increased caring and domestic responsibilities among women workforce. Under the uncertainty about the duration of the pandemic and future contagion waves, these findings are critical in informing employing organizations’ human resource management challenges to better support their female employees during pandemic time and beyond.

In recent years, with the rapid development of minimally invasive concept, from laparoscopic operation to three-dimension laparoscopic technique and to robotic surgical system, treatment modalities have changed a lot. Pancreatic diseases, including multiple lesions, have different prognoses. An appropriate surgical procedure should be selected while ensuring the radical treatment of disease, so as to minimize the injury to patients and the impairment of organ function. Minimally invasive technique is of great significance in the surgical treatment of pancreatic diseases.

Neonicotinoid insecticides, such as imidacloprid, are selective agonists of insect nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) and are used extensively to control a variety of insect pest species. Previously, we have identified a nAChR point mutation (Y151S) associated with insecticide resistance in the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens. Although this mutation has been identified in two different N. lugens nAChR subunits (Nlα1 and Nlα3) because of difficulties in heterologous expression of Nlα3; its influence on agonist potency has been examined only in Nlα1-containing nAChRs. Here we describe the cloning of a novel nAChR subunit from N. lugens (Nlα8), together with evidence for its co-assembly with Nlα3 in native and recombinant nAChRs. This has, for the first time, enabled the functional effects of the Nlα3Y151S mutation to be examined. The Nlα3Y151S mutation has little effect on agonist potency of acetylcholine but has a dramatic effect on neonicotinoid insecticides (reducing Imax values and increasing EC50 values). The apparent affinity of neonicotinoids was higher and the effect of the Y151S mutation on neonicotinoid agonist potency was more profound in Nlα3-containing, rather than Nlα1-containing nAChR. We conclude that Nlα3- and Nlα1-containing nAChRs may be representative of two distinct insect nAChR populations.
