A Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chamber (MRPC) equipped with heaters to improve the counting rate capability was designed for the BM@N experiment in Dubna. The measurements were performed using a muon beam at IHEP U-70 accelerator in Protvino. The MRPC at 40$^0$C tolerates counting rate up to 6 kHz/cm$^2$ with time resolution ~65 ps and efficiency ~95\% which complies with the conditions of the experiment., Comment: 7 pages, 13 figures

The π 0, η, K 0, ω, and f 2(1270) masses were measured at the HYPERON-Msetup in meson-nucleus interactions at a momentum of 7 GeV/c by using six nuclear targets: Be, C, Al, Cu, Sn, and Pb. The experiment in question proved to be insensitive to the expected effects of a modification to the omega-meson mass in nuclear matter. As for the f 2(1270) meson, its mass and width values averaged over all experimental data, $$m_{f_2 }$$ = 1275.8 ± 1.0(stat.) ± 0.4(syst.) MeV/c 2 and $$\Gamma _{f_2 }$$ = 190.3 ± 1.9(stat.) ± 1.8(syst.) MeV/c 2, agree well with the world-average values. At the same time, our experimental data do not rule out the possible effect of an in-medium modification to the f 2(1270)-meson mass for heavy nuclei at a level better than 0.4%.

It is shown that a multigap resistive plate chamber made of commercial float glass is capable of sustaining high counting rates at an increased operating temperature. Two glass chambers were investigated on the test beamline of the U-70 accelerator at the Institute for High Energy Physics. The required radiation flux density at the detector was produced by means of radioactive sources. The time resolution of 80 ps or better was attained at a rate of ∼20 kHz/cm2 and an operating temperature of 45°C.

The MultiPurpose Detector (MPD) is designed to study heavy-ion collisions at the Nuclotron-based heavy Ion Collider fAcility (NICA) at JINR, Dubna. Its main components located inside a superconducting solenoid are a tracking system composed of a silicon microstrip vertex detector followed by a large volume time-projection chamber, a time-of-flight system for particle identification and a barrel electromagnetic calorimeter. A zero degree hadron calorimeter is designed specifically to measure the energy of spectators. In this paper, all parts of the apparatus are described and their tracking and particle identification (PID) parameters are discussed in some detail.

An accurate data base for the analyzing power of thick CH2 analyzers for high energy protons has been at the basis of several research efforts in a number of laboratories. Starting in the late eighties such data were collected at SATURNE in Saclay, and with the Synchrophasotron in Dubna, and led to an extensive program of study of polarization phenomena in pd interaction, either backward elastic scattering or breakup [1–6]. At about the same time it became evident that measuring polarization observables in elastic ep was going to be the best approach to determine the form factors of the proton, GEp and GMp, as had been predicted by Akhiezer and Rekalo [7].

A 6-gap glass resistive plate chamber with a strip readout was tested on the beam of the U-70 accelerator at the Institute for High Energy Physics. A time resolution of ∼45 ps was attained at an efficiency of >98%. The position resolution along a strip was estimated to be ∼1 cm.

A structure of the multicomputer data acquisition complex for the Hyperon-M experiment at the U-70 accelerator (Protvino, Russia) is described. This complex has been designed to collect and merge data from several particle detectors, the electronic systems of which are made either to the MISS or SUMMA standard. The MISS system is autonomously operated under control of a special ЛЭ-74 controller that collects information in its internal buffer storage during a beam spill. The data acquired are combined with the information from the SUMMA electronics and are copied to an external storage device (a hard disk of a computer) in intervals between spills. On the contrary, software control is needed for the SUMMA electronics to read data on each event. Software-and hardware-based methods are used to provide joint operation of the electronic systems made to diverse standards and guarantee that the streams of incoming data are correctly merged. The problems of net interactions between different parts of the multicomputer system and monitoring of this system are analyzed.

The prototype of the hadron calorimeter module consisting of 66 scintillator/lead layers with the 15x15 cm^2 cross section and 5 nuclear interaction lengths has been designed and produced for the zero degree calorimeter of the BM@N experiment. The prototype has been tested with high energy muon beam of the U-70 accelerator at IHEP. The results of the beam test for different types of photo multipliers and light guides are presented. The results of the Monte-Carlo simulation of the calorimeter response and energy resolution are presented for the 2-16 GeV protons., 16 pages, 12 figures

A thick gaseous electron multiplier is used as an active element in designing radiation-resistant fast-response detectors (hadron calorimeters, tracking detectors, etc.). Design and technological efforts have been made in order to optimize the structure of the element. Results of measurements and the nearest plans are presented.
