U 20. stoljeću Fabijan Kaliterna kreira studiju izgradnje obale. I dalje je aktualno pitanje rušenja hotela Marjan., West coast is situated in the immediate vicinity to the city nucleus, Diocletian's Palace. It is an area that includes Matejuška harbor, Trumbić's coast, Knez Branimir's coast and Baluni Bay. In the beginning, there were arable fields and vineyards and over time buildings were built. Matejuška has retained her role to this day. Over time, churches were built, and the Sustipan road led to the Sustipan peninsula and the abbey of St. Stjepan. During the 19th century, three-story buildings were built, as well as a cement factory. In the 20th century, Fabijan Kaliterna created a study of coastal construction. Regulatory plans alternated, and the West Coast, even though it was not fully developed, did not prevent swimming and leisure. Kodl designed the Home of the Gusar rowing club, which was demolished on the eve of the Homeland War. The Hotel Ambasador, the Banovina building, the Čorak house, the Matijević house, the maritime industry building and the Hotel Marjan hotel in the very center were built. In 2013, the City of Split announced a competition for an urban-architectural solution, and the award went to architecture graduate students Bešlić and Jurić in collaboration with architect Mirna Đilas. Thus, an interesting but unachievable solution was awarded. The west coast was renovated in three phases, and in 2015 a promenade was built in front of the Hotel Ambasador. The issue of the demolition of the Hotel Marjan is still relevant.
