Pathological gambling (PG) is a disorder recently conceptualized as a behavioural addiction, because of its neurobiological, neurophysiological and psychological features (American Psychiatric Association. Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders - 5th ed., 2013; Potenza et al., 2012). PG represents both a social and a sanitary cost, in terms of pharmacological and psychological therapies. The aim of this study was to examine the correlation between personality disorders, clinical syndromes and alexithymia levels in a group of pathological gamblers. Furthermore this study aimed at highlighting a relationship between PG and alexithymia, over and above the relationship between personality disorders, clinical syndromes and PG. Sixty treatment- seeking pathological gamblers and 60 healthy controls were included in the study. Psychological assessment included the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS), the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI-III) and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20). Pathological gamblers displayed Axis I disorders, such as anxiety, somatoform symptoms, bipolar symptoms, dysthymia, thought disorders and major depression, as well as Axis II disorders such as depressive, antisocial, sadistic, passive-aggressive, self-defeating and paranoid disorders, and greater alexithymia levels. Alexithymia was detected in PG independently from the presence of other psychiatric disorders. Our data show that comorbid psychiatric disorders have been evidentiated in PG. Interestingly alexithymia is related to PG indipendently from other psychopathological disorders, representing a relevant feature, helpful for assessing PG diagnosis and for orienting to the correct therapeutical strategy. Gli AA propongono una nuova metodologia di analisi dei processi di gruppo attraverso una griglia di codifica ed elaborazione del testo deregistrato dell’esperienza di gruppo, con particolare attenzione ai gruppi analitici che hanno obiettivi di formazione. Il metodo è costruito riprendendo il modello del CCRT proposto da L. Luborsky e alcune categorie di analisi utilizzate dal modello del Conflitto focale di gruppo di Lieberman e Whitaker. Viene proposta una esemplificazione empirica di applicazione a uno stralcio del testo di un gruppo di formazione. L’emodialisi e la dialisi peritoneale, anche se rappresentano (con il trapianto) la terapia sostitutiva d’elezione dell’insufficienza renale, non sempre vengono vissute positivamente dai pazienti, a causa delle rigide prescrizioni terapeutiche e per i cambiamenti che apportano nella vita quotidiana (1,2). Ciò potrebbe incidere negativamente sulla non compliance che è definita, in entrambi i trattamenti, come l’inosservanza parziale o totale della terapia, che può essere associata alla non accettazione del trattamento sostitutivo (3). In letteratura viene stimato che il 50% dei pazienti in emodialisi ed un terzo di quelli in peritoneale abbia almeno una parziale non compliance che nella maggior parte dei casi sfugge all’attenzione del clinico per la tendenza dei pazienti a mascherare possibili “trasgressioni” (4). Questo studio ha l’obiettivo di verificare l’esistenza o meno di alcuni peculiari tratti di personalità e di strategie di coping (tipo di strategie attuate dal soggetto in situazioni stressanti) in pazienti dializzati (emodialisi e peritoneale), analizzando in particolare se vi siano alcuni di questi aspetti che caratterizzano i pazienti non collaboranti. Nella nostra esperienza alcuni pazienti che non si sono adattati alla dialisi peritoneale sono passati in emodialisi con notevoli disagi sia per loro stessi che per l’equipe medica. Per tale motivo i due test psicologici somministrati sono stati utilizzati anche per riscontrare l’eventuale esistenza di alcune caratteristiche della personalità degli uremici che li potrebbero predisporre ad un tipo di trattamento sostitutivo rispetto all’altro.

Studied since late 1800, vermetid reefs are marine bioconstructions of well-acknowledged importance in the Mediterranean Sea. Despite their persistence being jeopardized in the whole basin, recent studies have referred to this bioconstruction as a neglected habitat. In this study, we assessed the neglected status of the Mediterranean vermetid reefs in the scientific literature producing a systematic map through a multi-method bibliometric protocol. Scopus and Web of Science databases were jointly used for data collection. Vermetid reefs publication rate (i.e., number of publications per year) was investigated compared to the other Mediterranean bio-constructions using ANOVA analysis and Zero-Inflated Poisson regression. Later, VOSviewer software was used to perform a bibliometric network analysis and for mapping visualization. The analysis aimed at investigating gaps, patterns, and trends of the vermetid reefs together with the other main Mediterranean bioconstructions (i.e., Astroides calycularis, Cladocora caespitosa and coralligenous formations, and sabellariid and Lithophyllum reefs). The ANOVA analysis of the number of publications from 1966 to 2020 found statistically significant differences between coralligenous and vermetid reefs publication rates in the 2006-2010, 2011-2015, and 2016-2020 timeframes and pointed out a clear before/after-2010 pattern in coralligenous publication rate, which was also confirmed by the Zero-Inflated Poisson regression model. The bibliometric network analysis of the bio-constructions literature revealed the same temporal pattern, with the vermetid reefs poorly investigated and weakly connected to newer research lines and conservation topics. Instead, coralligenous showed strong con-nections with biodiversity conservation and was indicated as a recent research hotspot. Overall, the results of this study confirm previous references of the vermetid reefs as a neglected habitat and, among others, show an increasing research interest in the coralligenous topic.

Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are playing a central role in the achievement of ocean sustainability and, since 2000, their global coverage has increased over ten times. The success of MPAs, and therefore the delivery of their potential outcomes for human well-being and global sustainability, requires multi-disciplinary, holistic, and comprehensive approaches for its achievement. In this study, the global scientific literature on MPAs was quantitatively reviewed through bibliometrics approaches, investigating patterns and trends in its development over time. In particular, bibliometric network and citation burst analyses of keywords were performed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software. The bibliographic search on the Scopus and Web of Science databases resulted in a total number of 5908 and 6036 scientific documents published on MPAs. The network analysis of the keywords co-occurrence produced four main clusters whose connections and overlapping showed a multidisciplinary structure of MPA science, in which the ecological, social, and economic domains of research are strongly interlinked. Temporal analyses showed a recent focus on topics related to the social-ecological systems theory (e.g., ecosystem services, marine spatial planning, governance, and small-scale fisheries) suggesting that newer research lines recognize the importance of integrating the “human dimension” in conservation and sustainability studies. Overall, the results of both the performed bibliometric analyses pointed out the evolution of MPA science from the conventional concept of “marine reserves” to a broader scope integrating ecological, economic, and social aspects. In conclusion, MPA research is timely responding to the identification of MPAs as ocean sustainability tools, opening MPA science to multi-disciplinary research lines by linking the ecological and socio-economic dimensions of sustainability. MPA research is expected to play a crucial role in generating the interdisciplinary scientific knowledge needed to fully contribute to global ocean sustainability and human well-being.

International audience; Characterized by interlinked social, economic, and ecological dynamics, Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are a management tool for achieving sustainability goals in social-ecological systems. The recent increase in their establishment worldwide, fostered by international policies, highlights the need for comprehensive and integrated assessment frameworks able to address the evaluation of their social-ecological effectiveness and management performance, which is of fundamental importance for their adaptive management and decision making processes. Although several indicators and methodologies exist to assess MPAs ecological or social performances, no comprehensive assessment framework currently captures their broad range of objectives, encompassing the ecological, socio-cultural, and economic spheres. In this study, we present a novel quantitative framework (named MPAs Overall Success Evaluation – MOSE) able to assess the overall effectiveness and management performance of MPAs under the perspective of social-ecological systems. The multicriteria framework includes indicators linked to nature conservation, socio-cultural, socio-economic, and management objectives, integrating the multidisciplinary knowledge on MPAs in a single but comprehensive approach. The proposed framework was applied to the case study of Cerbère-Banyuls Natural Marine Reserve (France), the first MPA included in the IUCN Green List. Results showed that a high level of management effort is applied to the investigated MPA, generating several social-ecological benefits. This study showed the applicability of the MOSE framework and its potential usefulness as a tool to inform managers and decision-makers in charge for developing adaptive management strategies.

Gambling disorder (GD) is a psychiatric disease that has been recently classified as a behavioural addiction. So far, a very few studies have investigated the alteration of functional connectivity in GD patients, thus the concrete interplay between relevant function-dependent circuitries in such disease has not been comprehensively assessed. The aim of this research was to investigate resting-state functional connectivity in GD patients, searching for a correlation with GD symptoms severity. GD patients were assessed for gambling behaviour, impulsivity, cognitive distortions, anxiety and depression, in comparison with healthy controls (HC). Afterwards, they were assessed for resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging; functional connectivity was assessed through a data-driven approach, by using independent component analysis. The correlation between gambling severity and the strength of specific resting-state networks was also investigated. Our results show that GD patients displayed higher emotional and behavioural impairment than HC, together with an increased resting state functional connectivity in the network including anterior cingulate cortex, the caudate nucleus and nucleus accumbens, and within the cerebellum, in comparison with the control group. Moreover, a significant correlation between behavioural parameters and the strength of the resting-state cerebellar network was found. Overall, the functional alterations in brain connectivity involving the cerebellum observed in this study underpin the emotional and behavioural impairment recorded in GD patients. This evidence suggests the employment of novel neuromodulatory therapeutic approaches involving specific and salient targets such as the cerebellum in addictive disorders.

Marine and coastal ecosystems are among the most productive environments in the world and their stocks of natural capital offer a bundle of vital ecosystem services. Anthropogenic pressure seriously threatens health and long-term sustainability of marine environments. For these reasons, integrated approaches capable of combining ecological and socio-economic aspects are needed to achieve nature conservation and sustainability targets. In this study, the value of natural capital of the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area (EI-MPA) was assessed through a biophysical and trophodynamic environmental accounting model. The emergy value of both autotrophic and heterotrophic natural capital stocks was calculated for the main habitats of the EI-MPA. Eventually, the emergy value of natural capital was converted into monetary units to better communicate its importance to local managers and policy-makers. The total value of natural capital in the EI-MPA resulted in 1.12·10 21 sej, equivalent to about 1.17 billion of euros. In addition, using Marxan software, the results of the environmental accounting were integrated with spatial data on main human uses. This integration took into account the trade-offs between conservation measures and human exploitation by means of two different scenarios, with and without considering human uses in the EI-MPA. The comparison between the scenarios highlighted the importance of taking into account human activities in marine spatial planning (MSP), allowing the identification of key areas for natural capital conservation. In conclusion, this study showed the importance of integrating environmental accounting with conservation planning to support effective strategies for ecological protection and sustainable management of human activities. The results of this study represent a first benchmark useful to explore alternative nature conservation strategies in the EI-MPA, and, more in general, in Mediterranean MPAs.

La realizzazione di una fermata della linea Alta Velocità in prossimità della cittadina di Grottaminarda, già baricentro del sistema di piccoli centri a ridosso della valle del fiume Ufita, insieme al corollario sistema di mobilità leggera, people mover, si pongono come pretesto per scoprire la cittadina da un punto di vista alternativo a quello proposto dai consolidati itinerari di accesso alla città. Il caso studio di Grottaminarda, nelle modalità attraverso ha rappresentato l’occasione di sperimentare, attraverso lo spostamento dello sguardo, quell’esperienza di riconoscimento e scoperta che, nell’elidere il rischio di reiterare identità cristallizzate ed asfittiche, individua nuove gerarchie che assorbono, generando a loro volta, movimento.

La crisi culturale dell’età contemporanea è, in maniera rilevante e significativa, una crisi delle parole, del loro significato, del loro uso e del loro valore. Esse subiscono una deriva semantica che ne sbiadisce l’intensità e determina una corruzione o una perversione dei concetti che le parole stesse vanno a configurare. Parlare di pace, dunque, oggi pone subito una questione di parole e delle emozioni e dei concetti che esse veicolano. Pensare la “pace” vuol dire quindi richiamare una serie di ambiti differenti ma collegati: interiore, interpersonale, collettivo, spirituale. Nel funzionamento psichico individuale e collettivo aggressività e violenza sono gli aspetti che si contrappongono alla pace. Psicoanalisti di diverso orientamento si sono interrogati su quali siano le forme di esperienza, pensiero e sentimento che consentono una elaborazione degli aspetti più brutali del nostro istinto aggressivo costruendo le basi della pace individuale e sociale. Se la pace e la sua ricerca corrispondono a un atteggiamento attivo e propositivo nei confronti della vita e del benessere proprio ed altrui, la scelta e la pratica di stili di vita sani possono rappresentare l’espressione del sentimento di responsabilità e di cura verso di sé e verso il mondo, che sono la trama della pace come vissuto e della pace come auspicio. Dal pensiero psicoanalitico che riconduce alla responsabilità individuale e alla evoluzione della coscienza individuale e collettiva la creazione delle premesse per vivere in pace, siamo quindi passati alla disamina di tutti quei fattori che, collegando lo stato di benessere ed equilibrio fisico e psichico con gli stili di vita, i fattori ambientali e con gli stati mentali che sono in grado di modificare lo stesso substrato organico che li produce, ci aiutano a considerare la pace in una dimensione molto ampia e integrata che potremmo definire bio-psichica ed ecosistemica.

Il contributo chiude il volume dedicato al fenomeno delle Migrazioni nel loro rapporto con lo spazio costruito e prova ad individuare delle direttrici di lavoro. Nel secolo delle migrazioni, le solitudini sono moltiplicate e riguardano tutti coloro che faticano a stabilire comunicazioni tra paesaggi interiori e che non si riconoscono nelle comunità in cui vivono. Volendo lavorare per superare il contingente senso di straniamento, per favorire interazioni, permettere collegamenti, lo spazio dell'interfaccia sembra indicare una possibilità o meglio uno spazio di lavoro per gli architetti, confermando le suggestioni messe in moto dalla rivisitazione di noti spazi archetipici.

Il contributo intende presentare criticamente alcuni interventi di restauro allineati alla più moderna ed evoluta cultura della conservazione. I due interventi sono compiuti in Sicilia sui resti di due monumenti distrutti dal terremoto che danneggiò la vallata del fiume Belice nel 1968. Il tema della reintegrazione della lacuna nei volumi strutturali degli edifici storici è realizzata attraverso il procedimento per "astrazione volumetrica", con esiti sorprendenti e d'elevata qualità conservativa. The contribution intends to critically present some restoration interventions aligned with the most modern and evolved culture of conservation. The two interventions are carried out in Sicily on the remains of two monuments destroyed by the earthquake that damaged the Belice river valley in 1968. The theme of the reintegration of the gap in the structural volumes of historic buildings is achieved through the procedure by "volumetric abstraction", with surprising outcomes and of high conservative quality. El artículo tiene la intención de presentar críticamente algunas intervenciones de restauración alineadas con la cultura de conservación más moderna y evolucionada. Las dos intervenciones se llevan a cabo en Sicilia sobre los restos de dos monumentos destruidos por el terremoto que dañó el valle del río Belice en 1968. El tema de la reintegración de la brecha en los volúmenes estructurales de edificios históricos se logra mediante el procedimiento de "abstracción volumétrica", con resultados sorprendente y de alta calidad conservadora.

Several treatment options for gambling disorder (GD) have been tested in recent years; however dropout levels still remain high. This study aims to evaluate whether the presence of psychiatric comorbidities predicts treatment outcome according to Millon's evolutionary theory, following a six-month therapy for GD. The role of severity, duration of the disorder, typology of gambling (mainly online or offline) and pharmacological treatment were also analysed. The recruitment included 194 pathological gamblers (PGs) to be compared with 78 healthy controls (HCs). Psychological assessment included the South Oaks Gambling Screen and the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III. The "treatment failure" group (n = 70) comprised PGs who prematurely dropped out of the treatment whereas the "abstinent group" (n = 124) included PGs who completed the treatment regardless of whether the outcome was successful or not. As expected, the presence of psychiatric comorbidities was highlighted as a significant predictor in dropping out of the therapy. Specifically negativistic personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, drug dependence and PTSD were associated with early dropout. These variables were predictive of treatment outcome independently from the typology of gambling, severity, duration of the disorder and pharmacological treatment. Implications for psychological and psychiatric care are discussed.

Il contributo presenta la raccolta degli atti del convegno. Il fenomeno delle migrazioni è proposto come un 'rappel à l'ordre' per gli architetti costretti a rifondare le ragioni di un mestiere e reinverare il ruolo civile della disciplina.

L'idea centrale di questo contributo risiede nella possibilità di guardare alla relazione tra femminile e maschile in termini di movimento del pensiero lungo un continuum orizzontale. Tale proposta, nell'ambito di una prospettiva che non guarda all'esistenza e all'esistente come esclusivamente determinata dal genere pur riconoscendone la rilevanza, potrebbe rappresentare un'utile modalità di approccio ai temi del confronto con l'Alterità (nel sociale e nella clinica) e della specificità del processo di cura in senso analitico, poiché potrebbe configurarsi come una modalità più accessibile di contatto individuale e soggettivo con 'qualità' del pensiero e, dunque, dell'esistere prima ritenute appartenenti esclusivamente a un Altro variamente inteso.

Comorbid psychopathological syndromes are common in pathological gamblers (PGs), but the contribution of alexithymia, as a disorder of affect regulation, has not been fully explored yet. This study sought to examine the association between personality disorders, clinical syndromes and alexithymia levels in a group of PGs and to highlight a relationship between gambling behaviour and alexithymia scores, apart from the relationship between other disorders and gambling behaviour. Psychological assessment included the South Oaks Gambling Screen, Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI-III) and Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) performed on 70 treatment seeking PGs and 70 healthy controls. Statistical analysis on the results shows a greater presence of mental disorders in PGs together with alterations in emotional processing. Moreover, a significant contribution of alexithymia in predicting gambling behaviour has been revealed. In conclusion, even though the assessment of personality disorders and clinical syndromes in PGs should be considered as an essential diagnostical step, alexithymia must be regarded as a relevant psychological feature, in order to produce the most accurate diagnosis available and select the correct therapeutical choice.

Al centro del testo è un tentativo di riflessione sul significato e sul ruolo che le due componenti - archeologia e città - possono avere negli interventi che riguardano la trasformazione dei nostri territori. Il saggio 'racconta' di una esperienza di progetto nell'ambito di un programma di cooperazioen internazionale che ha visto tre team di tre università (Italia, Egitto e Marocco) al lavoro su altrettante aree archeologiche in ambito urbano. Il tratto distintivo del lavoro è nel proporre un nuovo possibile approccio al tema archeologico finalizzato ad evitare il pericolo di creazione di isole o recinti (fisici e funzionali) per poter leggere, invece, l’archeologia come una ‘parte’ da tutelare per il suo valore all’interno di una ‘parte’ più ampia dove cogliere ogni possibilità di modificazione: per provare a far diventare quelli che oggi sono resti talvolta indecifrabili, se non per gli specialisti, elementi cui demandare il compito di veicolare nel futuro anche il nostro presente.

Il saggio a partire dal concetto di "eterno ritorno" di Nietzsche rifeltte sugli statuti dell'archeologia e dell'architettura. Le due antiche discipline si incontrano e si confrontano nello studio e nella trasformazione possibile del monumento architettonico. Il monumento in altri termini è luogo e tramite di questo rapporto e ridiviene il centro di un sistema urbano in cui si iscrive attraverso un sistema di relazioni squisitamente architettonico. L’archeologia ha come obiettivo la conoscenza e lo studio delle trasformazioni del manufatto, l’architettura introduce in esso - attraverso il progetto - nuove trasformazioni, nuove interpretazioni: entrambe condividono il medesimo campo di pertinenza, diversi sono gli obiettivi, ma identico è l’intento conoscitivo.
