Increasingly, uncertainties in predictions from galaxy formation simulations (at sub-Milky Way masses) are dominated by uncertainties in stellar evolution inputs. In this paper, we present the full set of updates from the FIRE-2 version of the Feedback In Realistic Environments (FIRE) project code, to the next version, FIRE-3. While the transition from FIRE-1 to FIRE-2 focused on improving numerical methods, here we update the stellar evolution tracks used to determine stellar feedback inputs, e.g. stellar mass-loss (O/B and AGB), spectra (luminosities and ionization rates), and supernova rates (core-collapse and Ia), as well as detailed mass-dependent yields. We also update the low-temperature cooling and chemistry, to enable improved accuracy at $T \lesssim 10^{4}\,$K and densities $n\gg 1\,{\rm cm^{-3}}$, and the meta-galactic ionizing background. All of these synthesize newer empirical constraints on these quantities and updated stellar evolution and yield models from a number of groups, addressing different aspects of stellar evolution. To make the updated models as accessible as possible, we provide fitting functions for all of the relevant updated tracks, yields, etc, in a form specifically designed so they can be directly 'plugged in' to existing galaxy formation simulations. We also summarize the default FIRE-3 implementations of 'optional' physics, including spectrally-resolved cosmic rays and supermassive black hole growth and feedback., Comment: 26 pages, 12 figures. This study explored the lived experiences of young adults who play tabletop role-playing games (TRPGs) to gain deeper insights into the perceived social impact of tabletop role-playing games. Six young adults (3 men, 3 women) between the ages of 19 and 24 (M = 21.2, SD = 2.6) were recruited from role-playing communities within Nova Scotia, Canada. The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) was used to assess perceived social competence and semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect detailed qualitative data about lived experiences with role-playing games. Responses on the SDQ indicated that participants had typical strengths and difficulties with respect to social competence at the time of the current study. The qualitative description indicated the emergence of four main themes related to role-playing games from the interviews: Content Focus, Social Focus, Creativity Focus, and Identity Focus. The themes present in the interviews are consistent with findings from previous case study research, suggesting that role-playing games may have the potential to improve perceived social competence, and further elucidate the lived experiences of people who play role-playing games in terms of why they engage with tabletop role-playing games.

This chapter discusses the capabilities of extended reality technology in informal learning environments, such as museums and cultural heritage sites. Recent developments in extended reality technologies have led to increased integration into these informal learning spaces and have heightened the need for a systematic investigation into the affordances of modern multimedia representations spanning tangible to virtual mediums. These affordances vary across settings, ranging from personalizing learning experiences, increasing engagement through interactive activities, and augmenting exhibits with rich multimedia content. The chapter critically appraises several affordances of extended reality technologies while expanding on these notions by outlining the cognitive theory of multimedia learning to inform practical instructional design principles. Drawing on case examples from their own research with tangible and virtual museum objects in these settings, the authors explore and discuss how extended reality technologies can serve to both collect and analyze ambient data in real time. The authors claim that ambient data will become increasingly prevalent in such settings and critical to gain insights into visitor experience and promote meaningful and engaging learning experiences. They discuss the implications of their findings for practice and suggest directions for future research.

This chapter outlines a framework for automated detection of student behaviors in the context of virtual learning environments. The components of the framework establish several parameters for data acquisition, preprocessing, and processing as a means to classify different types of behaviors. The authors illustrate these steps in training and evaluating a detector that differentiates between students' observations and functional behaviors while students interact with three-dimensional (3D) virtual models of dinosaur fossils. Synthetic data were generated in controlled conditions to obtain time series data from different channels (i.e., orientation from the virtual model and remote controllers) and modalities (i.e., orientation in the form of Euler angles and quaternions). Results suggest that accurate detection of interaction behaviors with 3D virtual models requires smaller moving windows to segment the log trace data as well as features that characterize orientation of virtual models in the form of quaternions. They discuss the implications for personalized instruction in virtual learning environments.

Better Nights, Better Days (BNBD) is a 5-session online intervention designed to treat insomnia in 1–10-year-old children (Corkum et al. 2016). Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and insomnia commonly occur in children and, after surgical treatment for OSA, it is estimated that up to 50% of children may continue to suffer from insomnia symptoms. Access to insomnia interventions following OSA treatment is limited as there are few programs available, few trained practitioners to deliver these programs, and limited recognition that these problems exist. The current study involved the usability testing of an internet-based parent-directed session of BNBD tailored towards the needs of children (ages 4–10 years) who experience residual insomnia symptoms after treatment of OSA. This new session was added to the BNBD program. Participants (n = 43) included 6 parents, 17 sleep experts, and 20 front-line healthcare providers who completed and provided feedback on the new session. Participants completed a feedback questionnaire, with both quantitative and qualitative questions, after reviewing the session. Quantitative responses analyzed via descriptive statistics suggested that the session was primarily viewed as helpful by most participants, and open-ended qualitative questions analyzed by content analyses generated a mix of positive and constructive feedback. The results provide insights on how to optimally tailor the BNBD program to meet the needs of the target population and suggest that testing the session on a larger scale would be beneficial., Highlights • A new OSA-tailored session for the eHealth program Better Nights, Better Days (BNBD) was evaluated by stakeholders. • Quantitative and qualitative feedback suggests that stakeholders generally viewed the new session as helpful and provided feedback. • The current study assesses the usability of the first eHealth intervention tailored for children with insomnia symptoms after treatment for OSA.

The purpose of this presentation is to discuss photonics technologies' role in enabling electronic warfare (EW) capabilities. Photonics technologies are primed to be a disruptive technology, and are ripe for an S-curve jump in the near-term. Closely monitoring emerging technologies in this domain will provide those with the core-competency to effectuate a strategic technological advantage over their competition.

Progressive rehabilitation has been recognised by the mining industry as a key strategy for minimising mine closure costs and environmental risk, with the rehabilitation of potentially acid-forming waste rock being of particular interest due to the very large liabilities associated with sites where this risk has not been properly addressed. When properly implemented as an engineered solution, progressive rehabilitation of potentially acid-forming waste rock can provide an inherently more robust and lower risk rehabilitation strategy compared with the commonly-implemented alternative of an end-of-life waste dump covers. A case study is presented herein where progressive rehabilitation of potentially acid-forming waste rock has been successfully integrated with ongoing construction of the embankment of a tailings storage facility (TSF). The mine site in question, the Martabe Gold Mine in Indonesia, is thought to be unique in that construction of the TSF embankment at the site will require utilisation of almost all of the waste rock to be produced life of mine. The TSF embankment is therefore a fully integrated and engineered structure addressing both tailings and waste rock disposal requirements for the site. This approach offers a number of key benefits, including minimisation of both waste rock rehabilitation and tailings storage costs, and minimising the risk of long-term acid mine drainage. The progressive mine waste rehabilitation strategy adopted by G-Resources at the Martabe Gold Mine was designed taking into account the inherent properties of the waste rock materials, the run-of-mine waste rock schedule, and the engineering constraints required in order to construct a TSF embankment to exacting geotechnical standards. The strategy has required systematic implementation of outcomes reflective of industry leading practice, including: • Detailed waste characterisation studies. • Development of waste characterisation criteria. • Production of a life-of-mine waste schedule. • Selection of a waste sealing specification based on oxidation modelling. • Progressive implementation of selective waste placement and sealing. • Performance measurement to validate design and implementation. All key technical teams at the Martabe Gold Mine, including exploration, mine geology, mine planning, TSF construction and environment, have played an integral role in the implementation of this strategy, which can be described as an integrated waste management solution in which minimisation of mine closure risk is process that is carried out across the life of the mine.

Structure–activity relationships of 6-(benzoylamino)benzoxaborole analogs were investigated for the inhibition of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 from lipopolysaccharide stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Compound 1q showed potent activity against all three cytokines with IC50 values between 0.19 and 0.50 μM, inhibited LPS-induced TNF-α and IL-6 elevation in mice and improved collagen-induced arthritis in mice. Compound 1q (AN4161) is considered to be a promising lead for novel anti-inflammatory agent with an excellent pharmacokinetic profile.

In this article, we briefly review the etiology of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and describe the most current scientifically supported theory about the nature of this disorder. Based on the research literature, several organizations have established standards of care for its diagnosis and treatment, which involves a multimodal strategy for treatment at the biological, individual, family, school, and community levels. Assessment and treatment guidelines are provided for Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs), and specific areas of competency are proposed for MFTs who are working with children who have ADHD.

Much of modern warfare is conducted in built-up areas. This has created challenges in detecting and tracking potential targets. Because of their size micro-aerial vehicles (MAVs) can be used to get in close to identify and track targets. The ability of MAVs to perform visual surveillance of \over-the-horizon" targets is limited by their range. The MAV’s usefulness can be enhanced by releasing them from small uninhabited aerial vehicles (SUAVs) over the urban area. This paper details the components necessary to simulate MAVs being dropped into urban areas, in teams, to perform surveillance on pre-identifled targets. The mission is explained. After that we describe MultiUAV2, the MAV and SUAV dynamics models, the mission sensor, and the urban terrain model, and the built-up area wind model.
