The latter includes how different local environments influence adaptive and neutral genomic variation within and among populations, providing insights into local adaptation of natural populations and their responses to global change. Here, under a seascape genomic approach, ddRAD data of 4609 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from 398 sardines (Sardina pilchardus) collected in 11 Mediterranean and one Atlantic site were generated. These were used along with oceanographic and ecological information to detect signals of adaptive divergence with gene flow across environmental gradients. The studied sardines constitute two clusters (FST = 0.07), a pattern attributed to outlier loci, highlighting putative local adaptation. The trend in the number of days with sea surface temperature above 19°C, a critical threshold for successful sardine spawning, was crucial at all levels of population structuring with implications on the species' key biological processes. Outliers link candidate SNPs to the region's environmental heterogeneity. Our findings provide evidence for a dynamic equilibrium in which population structure is maintained by physical and ecological factors under the opposing influences of migration and selection. This dynamic in a natural system warrants continuous monitoring under a seascape genomic approach that might benefit from a temporal and more detailed spatial dimension. Our results may contribute to complementary studies aimed at providing deeper insights into the mechanistic processes underlying population structuring. Background No approved treatment for peanut allergy exists for children younger than 4 years of age, and the efficacy and safety of epicutaneous immunotherapy with a peanut patch in toddlers with peanut allergy are unknown. Methods We conducted this phase 3, multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial involving children 1 to 3 years of age with peanut allergy confirmed by a double-blind, placebo-controlled food challenge. Patients who had an eliciting dose (the dose necessary to elicit an allergic reaction) of 300 mg or less of peanut protein were assigned in a 2:1 ratio to receive epicutaneous immunotherapy delivered by means of a peanut patch (intervention group) or to receive placebo administered daily for 12 months. The primary end point was a treatment response as measured by the eliciting dose of peanut protein at 12 months. Safety was assessed according to the occurrence of adverse events during the use of the peanut patch or placebo. Results Of the 362 patients who underwent randomization, 84.8% completed the trial. PurposeAmid the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), supply chains have faltered. This has influenced operational and financial performance and lead to uncertainty in supply and distribution. Therefore, systems measuring supply chain risk and disruption management performance have gained interest. This study explores barriers to supply chain performance measurement during disruptions such as COVID-19.Design/methodology/approachBased on a survey and literature review, the authors formalise the barriers and rank them using the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) fuzzy Višekriterijumsko kompromisno rangiranje (VIKOR) methodology. A total of 14 experts in 11 countries were surveyed. Performance measurement is based on a balanced scorecard.FindingsFifteen barriers are identified. Based on DEMATEL analysis, the cause–effect relationships among the four scorecard aspects are explored. The customer axis is revealed as the cause, while the financial, internal business and learning/development are identified as the effect of the supply chain performance measurement. Fuzzy VIKOR calculations show that uncertainty of investment, disrupted cash flows and the bullwhip effect are the most critical barriers to measure supply chain performance during outbreaks such as the COVID-19 pandemic.Research limitations/implicationsThe study identifies and ranks general barriers; additional research is required to differentiate barriers in specific industrial sectors.Practical implicationsThe findings may help develop proactive, resilient supply chain performance strategies to overcome disruptions.Social implicationsPolicy-makers and decision-makers in industrial and service firms can explore these findings to inform strategies for robust supply chains that can resist disruption in risky environments.Originality/valueThis research addresses a knowledge gap in barriers to measure supply chain performance in post-pandemic areas. Recently, Panama wilt disease that attacks banana leaves has caused enormous economic losses to farmers. Early detection of this disease and necessary preventive measures can avoid economic damage. This paper proposes an improved method to predict Panama wilt disease based on symptoms using an agro deep learning algorithm. The proposed deep learning model for detecting Panama wilts disease is essential because it can help accurately identify infected plants in a timely manner. It can be instrumental in large-scale agricultural operations where Panama wilts disease could spread quickly and cause significant crop loss. Additionally, deep learning models can be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatments and help farmers make informed decisions about how to manage the disease best. This method is designed to predict the severity of the disease and its consequences based on the arrangement of color and shape changes in banana leaves. The present proposed method is compared with its previous methods, and it achieved 91.56% accuracy, 91.61% precision, 88.56% recall and 81.56% F1-score.

The indoor object tracking by utilizing received signal strength indicator (RSSI) measurements with the help of wireless sensor network (WSN) is an interesting and important topic in the domain of location-based applications. Without the knowledge of location, the measurements obtained with WSN are of no use. The trilateration is a widely used technique to get location updates of target based on RSSI measurements from WSN. However, it suffers with high location estimation errors arising due to random variations in RSSI measurements. This paper presents a range-free radial basis function neural network (RBFN) and Kalman filtering- (KF-) based algorithm named RBFN+KF. The performance of the RBFN+KF algorithm is evaluated using simulated RSSIs and is compared against trilateration, multilayer perceptron (MLP), and RBFN-based estimations. The simulation results reveal that the proposed RBFN+KF algorithm shows very low location estimation errors compared to the rest of the three approaches. Additionally, it is also seen that RBFN-based approach is more energy efficient than trilateration and MLP-based localization approaches.

Background: We aim to assess whether time of day modified the treatment effect in the RACECAT trial (Direct Transfer to an Endovascular Center Compared to Transfer to the Closest Stroke Center in Acute Stroke Patients With Suspected Large Vessel Occlusion Trial), a cluster-randomized trial that did not demonstrate the benefit of direct transportation to a thrombectomy-capable center versus nearest local stroke center for patients with a suspected large vessel stroke triaged in nonurban Catalonia between March 2017 and June 2020. Methods: We performed a post hoc analysis of RACECAT to evaluate if the association between initial transport routing and functional outcome differed according to trial enrollment time: daytime (8:00 am –8:59 pm ) and nighttime (9:00 pm –7:59 am ). Primary outcome was disability at 90 days, as assessed by the shift analysis on the modified Rankin Scale score, in patients with ischemic stroke. Subgroup analyses according to stroke subtype were evaluated. Results: We included 949 patients with an ischemic stroke, of whom 258 patients(27%) were enrolled during nighttime. Among patients enrolled during nighttime, direct transport to a thrombectomy-capable center was associated with lower degrees of disability at 90 days (adjusted common odds ratio [acOR], 1.620 [95% CI, 1.020–2.551]); no significant difference between trial groups was present during daytime (acOR, 0.890 [95% CI, 0.680–1.163]; P interaction =0.014). Influence of nighttime on the treatment effect was only evident in patients with large vessel occlusion(daytime, acOR 0.766 [95% CI, 0.548–1.072]; nighttime, acOR, 1.785 [95% CI, 1.024–3.112] ; P interaction P interaction >0.1 for all comparisons). We observed longer delays in alteplase administration, interhospital transfers, and mechanical thrombectomy initiation during nighttime in patients allocated to local stroke centers. Conclusions: Among patients evaluated during nighttime for a suspected acute severe stroke in non-urban areas of Catalonia, direct transport to a thrombectomy-capable center was associated with lower degrees of disability at 90 days. This association was only evident in patients with confirmed large vessel occlusion on vascular imaging. Time delays in alteplase administration and interhospital transfers might mediate the observed differences in clinical outcome. Concrete is one of the most used materials after water. Largely owing to this, its environmental impact is substantial, although its embodied carbon per unit volume or mass is low when compared to most alternatives. This, along with the broad availability, good strength, durability and versatility of concrete means that it will remain a material of choice, although more efficient ways of using it must be found. Structurally optimized building components are a means to do this as they can save about 50% material. Unfortunately, however, such elements are presently too expensive to produce owing to them requiring non-standard formwork. It is an objective of digital fabrication to propose solutions to this issue. In this con-text, Digital Casting Systems (DCS) have advanced material control strategies for setting-on-demand in digital concrete processing. Thereby, the formwork pressure is reduced to a minimum, which opens possibilities of rethinking formworks as systems that are dynamically shaping, millimetre thin or weakly supporting the material cast inside. In this paper we present a brief overview of millimetre thin formworks and summarize the first realization of concrete elements that utilizes the mechanics of paper folding to make millimetre thin formworks up to 2.5 meters high. Such formworks could initially be flat packed, erected into shape, and eventually peeled-off and recycled in established material streams. This would reduce waste and transport cost, while offering a surface finish that meets the expectations for exposed concrete surfaces.

International audience; Bistable molecules represent a potential miniaturization limit for high-density information technologies. However, molecules exhibit memory effect typically at very low temperatures. This is the case of spin-crossover (SCO) complexes, where the concept of a molecular memory has not been considered due to the fast spin-state interconversion of all previous systems. Breaking this principle, here we report a slow relaxation process found in an SCO iron-triazole polyanionic complex. Multiple experimental evidences confirm the opening of a thermal hysteresis upon solid dilution and even in liquid solution. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal the origin of this unexpected phenomenon to the appearance of an energy barrier that slows down the spin-state relaxation processes at the molecular level. These results show how SCO molecules may store information at room temperature, opening unique opportunities for molecular data storage.

Resumen Introduccion y objetivos Los nodulos tiroideos requieren con frecuencia evaluacion mediante ecografia y puncion aspiracion con aguja fina (PAAF). No obstante, la PAAF no permite la diferenciacion entre adenoma y carcinoma folicular en lesiones de tipo IV segun la clasificacion de Bethesda. Esto provoca numerosas intervenciones quirurgicas innecesarias porque no es posible garantizar el caracter benigno de las lesiones, ni siquiera cuando la mayoria de las muestras corresponden a adenomas o incluso a otras lesiones benignas. El objetivo de este estudio es establecer si hay caracteristicas ecograficas que nos ayudarian a pronosticar el riesgo de malignidad de los nodulos con un diagnostico anatomopatologico de neoplasia folicular para conseguir un abordaje mas conservador de los nodulos sin sospecha de malignidad. Material y metodos Estudiamos 61 nodulos en 61 pacientes (51 mujeres y 10 varones) que se habian sometido a intervencion quirurgica de la glandula tiroides y tenian resultados histopatologicos de adenoma o carcinoma folicular. Se analizaron diversas caracteristicas ecograficas de los nodulos (composicion, ecogenicidad, borde, estado de calcificacion, presencia de halo y sospecha general de malignidad segun el observador) y se establecio su correlacion con el analisis histopatologico. Resultados Observamos una relacion estadisticamente significativa entre el carcinoma folicular y la presencia de calcificaciones, bordes mal definidos y la sospecha o impresion general del observador (definida por sospecha clara de signos ecograficos de malignidad, como calcificacion, borde mal definido y un nodulo solido marcadamente hipoecoico; y signos ecograficos de benignidad, como composicion ecogenica predominantemente quistica y presencia de halo hipoecogenico perinodular). Sin embargo, todas estas caracteristicas han mostrado una sensibilidad baja en el estudio que nos ocupa (30%, 30% y 50%, respectivamente). En cambio, la ausencia del signo de halo ha demostrado una sensibilidad del 100% y un valor predictivo negativo del 100% en nuestro estudio. Conclusiones La presencia de calcificaciones, los bordes mal definidos y la impresion o sospecha general de malignidad se asocian con un riesgo mayor de carcinoma folicular en nodulos tiroideos de tipo IV segun la clasificacion de Bethesda, pero su ausencia no permite pronosticar el caracter benigno de estos nodulos. En cambio, cuando se observa una lesion con signo de halo, deberia considerarse una neoplasia folicular benigna.

Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a common life-threatening condition that must be rapidly diagnosed and treated. However, there is still a lack of consensus regarding treatment, driven to some extent by prognostic uncertainty. While several prediction models for ICH detection have already been published, here we present a deep learning predictive model for ICH prognosis.We included patients with ICH (n = 262), and we trained a custom model for the classification of patients into poor prognosis and good prognosis, using a hybrid input consisting of brain CT images and other clinical variables. We compared it with two other models, one trained with images only (I-model) and the other with tabular data only (D-model).Our hybrid model achieved an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of .924 (95% confidence interval [CI]: .831-.986), and an accuracy of .861 (95% CI: .760-.960). The I- and D-models achieved an AUC of .763 (95% CI: .622-.902) and .746 (95% CI: .598-.876), respectively.The proposed hybrid model was able to accurately classify patients into good and poor prognosis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first ICH prognosis prediction deep learning model. We concluded that deep learning can be applied for prognosis prediction in ICH that could have a great impact on clinical decision-making. Further, hybrid inputs could be a promising technique for deep learning in medical imaging.

Background: We aim to compare the outcome of patients from urban areas, where the referral center is able to perform thrombectomy, with patients from nonurban areas enrolled in the RACECAT trial (Direct Transfer to an Endovascular Center Compared to Transfer to the Closest Stroke Center in Acute Stroke Patients With Suspected Large Vessel Occlusion). Methods: Patients with suspected large vessel occlusion stroke, as evaluated by a Rapid Arterial Occlusion Evaluation score of ≥5, from urban catchment areas of thrombectomy-capable centers during RACECAT trial enrollment period were included in the Stroke Code Registry of Catalonia. Primary outcome was disability at 90 days, as assessed by the shift analysis on the modified Rankin Scale score, in patients with an ischemic stroke. Secondary outcomes included mortality at 90 days, rate of thrombolysis and thrombectomy, time from onset to thrombolysis, and thrombectomy initiation. Propensity score matching was used to assemble a cohort of patients with similar characteristics. Results: The analysis included 1369 patients from nonurban areas and 2502 patients from urban areas. We matched 920 patients with an ischemic stroke from urban areas and nonurban areas based on their propensity scores. Patients with ischemic stroke from nonurban areas had higher degrees of disability at 90 days (median [interquartle range] modified Rankin Scale score, 3 [2–5] versus 3 [1–5], common odds ratio, 1.25 [95% CI, 1.06–1.48]); the observed average effect was only significant in patients with large vessel stroke (common odds ratio, 1.36 [95% CI, 1.08–1.65]). Mortality rate was similar between groups(odds ratio, 1.02 [95% CI, 0.81–1.28]). Patients from nonurban areas had higher odds of receiving thrombolysis (odds ratio, 1.36 [95% CI, 1.16–1.67]), lower odds of receiving thrombectomy(odds ratio, 0.61 [95% CI, 0.51–0.75]), and longer time from stroke onset to thrombolysis (mean difference 38 minutes [95% CI, 25–52]) and thrombectomy(mean difference 66 minutes [95% CI, 37–95]). Conclusions: In Catalonia, Spain, patients with large vessel occlusion stroke triaged in nonurban areas had worse neurological outcomes than patients from urban areas, where the referral center was able to perform thrombectomy. Interventions aimed at improving organizational practices and the development of thrombectomy capabilities in centers located in remote areas should be pursued. The opioid crisis was exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States with alarming statistics about overdose-related deaths. Current treatment options, such as medication assisted treatments, have been unable to prevent relapse in many patients, whereas cue-based exposure therapy have had mixed results in human trials. To improve patient outcomes, it is imperative to develop animal models of addiction to understand molecular mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets. We previously found increased brain derived neurotrophic factor (bdnf) transcript in the ventral striatum/nucleus accumbens (VS/NAc) of rats that extinguished morphine-induced place preference. Here, we expand our study to determine whether BDNF protein expression was modulated in mesolimbic brain regions of the reward system in animals exposed to extinction training. Drug conditioning and extinction sessions were followed by Western blots for BDNF in the hippocampus (HPC), amygdala (AMY) and VS/NAc. Rears, as a measure of withdrawal-induced anxiety were also measured to determine their impact on extinction. Results showed that animals who received extinction training and successfully extinguished morphine CPP significantly increased BDNF in the HPC when compared to animals deprived of extinction training (sham-extinction). This increase was not significant in animals who failed to extinguish (extinction-resistant). In AMY, all extinction-trained animals showed increased BDNF, regardless of behavior phenotype. No BDNF modulation was observed in the VS/NAc. Finally, extinction-trained animals showed no difference in rears regardless of extinction outcome, suggesting that anxiety elicited by drug withdrawal did not significantly impact extinction of morphine CPP. Our results suggest that BDNF expression in brain regions of the mesolimbic reward system could play a key role in extinction of opioid-induced maladaptive behaviors and represents a potential therapeutic target for future combined pharmacological and extinction-based therapies.

Introduction. The objective is to determine the prevalence of potentially inappropriate drugs according to the Marc, STOPP, and PRISCUS lists in elderly HIV patients. Patients and methods. It was an observational, retrospective, and multicenter study. People living with HIV 65 years or older who underwent chronic concomitant treatment were included. Descriptive and multivariate analyzes were performed to study the association between polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medication compliance. Results. A total of 55 patients were included, 81.8% men and a median age of 69 years (IQR: 67-73). The median number of comorbidities was 3 (IQR: 2-5) and the most frequent pattern of multimorbidity was cardiometabolic (62.9%). The predominant antiretroviral treatment was triple therapy (65.5%). Polypharmacy was present in 70.9% of the patients and 25.5% had major polypharmacy. The most frequent polypharmacy pattern was cardiovascular (69.2%). Torrential flows (debris flows and debris floods) are mainly triggered by precipitation and soil hydrological processes. Most early warning systems in torrential catchments are rainfall-based. However, this approach can result in frequent false positives, due to its pure black-box nature, in which soil water conditions are neglected. We aim to contribute to the understanding of the conditions required for triggering torrential flows by considering also in situ measurements of soil water content. Herein, monitoring data of 12 years of rainfall and torrential flow occurrence (2009–2020) and 8 years of soil hydrologic conditions (2013–2020) in the Rebaixader catchment (Central Pyrenees, Spain) are analyzed. The dataset includes more than 1000 rainfall events and 37 torrential flows. First, rainfall thresholds using maximum rainfall intensity (Imax) and mean intensity (Imean) are defined. For the 2013–2020 dataset, which includes 15 torrential events, the Imean threshold predicted 2 false negatives and 73 false positives (positive predictive value, PPV, of 15.1%) and the best Imax threshold predicted also 2 false negatives but only 11 false positives (PPV of 54.2%). However, our observations confirmed quantitatively that the lower is the soil moisture the higher is the rainfall intensity to trigger torrential flows. Then, we combined Imax and volumetric water content at 15 and 30 cm depth to define a hydro-meteorological threshold. This latter threshold reduced false negatives to 1 and false positives to 8 and increased the PPV to 63.6%. These results confirm that soil hydrological conditions are key factors for torrential flow triggering and may improve early-warning predictions.

International audience; A multi-polydentate N-substituted oxamate ligand bearing an additional carboxylato group has been successfully reacted in solvothermal conditions to form the 2D coordination network (TMA) 3 [CuMn(paba) 2 (OAc)]•8H 2 O (1). This coordination network displays a brick-wall type morphology with, thanks to the augmented connectivity of the ligand, a lower than usual metal ion nuclearity for the building sub-unit. Temperature-dependent structural studies indicate that the layered structure undergoes dehydration at 90°C and remain stable up to 200°C. Magnetic characterizations show that 1 behaves as a ferrimagnet, with a Curie temperature of 2.8 K.

It has been assumed that connections between the postparotid terminal branches of the facial nerve are purely motor. However, the nature of their fibers remains unexplored. The aim of this study is to determine whether these connections comprise motor fibers exclusively. In total 17 connections between terminal facial nerve branches were obtained from 13 different facial nerves. Choline acetyltransferase antibody (ChAT) was used to stain the fibers in the connections and determine whether or not all of them were motor. All connections contained ChAT positive and negative fibers. The average number of fibers overall was 287 (84–587) and the average proportion of positive fibers was 63% (37.7%–91.5%). In 29% of the nerves, >75% of the fibers were ChAT+ (strongly positive); in 52.94%, 50%–75% were ChAT+ (intermediately positive); and in 17.65%

During the COVID 19 pandemic, the general population suffered from high degrees of stress, the consequence of which was an increase in myofascial pain syndrome. This inflammatory ailment which affects soft tissues causes pain, muscular rigidity, and modifies posture due to hyperactivity. A state of muscular ischemia leads to structural and chemical changes, and to variations in saliva’s electrical conductivity. The objective of this research was to measure the changes in pH and electrical conductivity of saliva samples, and to use these as biomarkers during therapeutical Maxillary Functional Orthopedics (Planas’ Simple Indirect Tracks and Simões Network 20). All the subjects that took part in the study evidenced changes in the beforementioned biomarkers, as well as clinical improvement of their symptoms.

Worldwide, obesity leads to major diseases in adults. Infants are affected as well, particularly because of growth and development issues. In this article we describe cases of early dental eruption in overweight and obese children, almost 1 year earlier than expected. The relations and mechanisms that cause these alterations remain to be determined.

The percentage of patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and melanoma who benefit from anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (anti-PD-1) is low owing to resistance mechanisms. SABR has a role in oligoprogressive disease and can improve responses to anti-PD-1. This multicenter prospective observational study aimed to determine whether concomitant anti-PD-1 and SABR to oligoprogressive sites enhance tumor response in metastatic NSCLC and melanoma.Patients with metastatic NSCLC or melanoma in progression to anti-PD-1 but continuing the same line owing to clinical benefit were referred for palliative SABR. All patients received concomitant pembrolizumab or nivolumab and SABR to 1 to 5 lesions, maintaining anti-PD-1 until further progression, unacceptable toxicity, or medical/patient decision. Objective response rate-complete responses and partial responses-was evaluated during all follow-up according to Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors 1.1. The abscopal response was evaluated 8 weeks after SABR as a ≥30% reduction in 1 to 2 predefined nonirradiated lesions.Of the 61 patients enrolled, 50 could be analyzed. With a median follow-up of 32.8 months, objective response rate was 42% (30% complete responses and 12% partial responses). Median progression-free survival was 14.2 months (95% confidence interval, 6.9-29 months). Median overall survival since SABR was 37.4 months (95% confidence interval, 22.9 months-not reached). Abscopal response was 65%, evaluated in 40 patients who fulfilled the criteria.Combined anti-PD-1 and SABR in oligoprogressive metastatic NSCLC or melanoma can achieve high rates of response and extend the clinical benefit of immunotherapy by delaying further progression and a new systemic therapy. This approach should be assessed in larger randomized trials.

[Métodos]: Estudio observacional de seguimiento prospectivo (EPA-AS) en 88 pacientes (43 ± 17 años, 55% varones) con SARS-CoV-2 en muestras nasofaríngeas (RT-PCR). Treinta y uno recibieron enjuagues/gargarismos con povidona yodada cada 8 h 2 días consecutivos, 17 con la misma pauta de peróxido de hidrógeno y 40 controles sin enjuagues. Se repitió PCR a los 3, 11 y 17 días. [Methods]: A “non-interventional trial” in 88 patients (43 ± 17 yrs, 55% men) with SARS-CoV-2 in nasopharyngeal swabs (RT-PCR). 31 received mouth rinses/gargling with povidone-iodine (every 8 h, two consecutive days), 17 with mouth rinses/gargling of hydrogen peroxide, and 40 controls. PCR were repeated at 3, 11 and 17 days. [Results}: After intervention the viral load (Log 10 copies/ml) remained similar in povidone-iodine (4.3 ± 2.7 copies/ml), hydrogen peroxide (4.6 ± 2.9 copies/ml; p = 0.40) and controls (4.4 ± 3.0 copies/ml). The percentage of patients with a negative result in the second PCR was 27% in povidone-iodine group, 23% in hydrogen peroxide and 32% in controls; in the third PCR, 62%, 54% and 58% respectively; and in the fourth PCR, 81%, 75% and 81%. This paper deals with 61 taxa, 8 of which are new to the Balearic Islands flora: Bromus macrantherus Trab., Buglossoides incrassata subsp. splitgerberi (Guss.) E. Zippel & Selvi, Erodium neuradifolium Godr., Hedera helix subsp. rhizomatifera McAllister, Misopates calycinum (Vent.) Rothm., Narcissus serotinus L., Orobanche balsensis (J.A. Guim.) Carlón, M. Laínz, Moreno Mor. & Ó. Sánchez and Valerianella locusta (L.) Laterr. subsp. locusta. On the other hand, 8 species [Aira multiculmis Dumort., Aira uniaristata Lag. & Rodr., Oenanthe croccata L., O. pimpinelloides L., Opopanax chironium W.D.J. Koch, Puccinellia distans (Jacq.) Parl., Silene niceensis All. and Tyrimnus leucographus (L.) Cass.] are removed from the list of the Balearic Islands. Moreover, individual island reports are given for several species, 26 of them representing novelty at island level.

Anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (PD1) antibodies, pembrolizumab and nivolumab, alone or in combination with ipilimumab, have become standard treatment for melanoma and multiple other malignancies. Neurological adverse effects are rare and have not been well characterized to date. Patients who developed neurological adverse effects while being treated with PD1, alone or in combination with ipilimumab, were retrospectively identified from 10 cancer centers. Fifty-eight patients were included, and the median time from treatment initiation to development of neurological adverse effects was 7 weeks (range, 1-86.5 weeks). Thirty-seven (64%) toxicities affected the peripheral nervous system. Fifty (86%) patients were treated with corticosteroids, with 22 (37%) patients requiring further immunomodulation including intravenous immunoglobulin (16), plasmapheresis (7), mycophenolate mofetil (4), cyclophosphamide (1), and rituximab (1). Twenty-seven (46%) had a complete resolution of their neurological symptoms, and two (4%) patients died secondary to complications from their neurological adverse effects. The response rate of the cancer to immunotherapy was 78%, and the median progression free survival was not reached. Neurological adverse effects can occur with PD1 treatment, do not appear to impact treatment response, but may be irreversible or worsen in some patients. Management may require immunomodulation beyond corticosteroids.

We proposed an estimator for traffic volumes at signalized intersections using only sparse trajectory data. Each pair of observed trajectories defined a statistical event, from which traffic volume was inferred. The interaction between trajectory stop distances, arrival speeds, and signal plan defined different classes of statistical events, with distinct likelihood expressions. Contrary to recent approaches found in the literature, our method addressed oversaturation and residual queues. We also proposed a method to estimate stopbar location, crucial to properly estimating stop distances and queue lengths. Arrivals were assumed to follow a negative exponential distribution., and the method was compatible with any kind of control. The signal plan was assumed to be known, but an estimated signal plan could also be used. The estimation was formulated as a maximum marginal likelihood problem. We showed the problem to be globally concave and, thus, optimally solvable by standard gradient-based methods. The estimator was first validated by an event-based Lighthill–Whitham–Richards simulation, suppressing any measurement errors from trajectories and uncertainty from driver behavior. The estimator was found to consistently show bias below 10% in low-penetration-rate situations, when the [Formula: see text] ratio was medium to high. Finally, the estimator was tested at a real-world intersection set by the authors in Beijing, China, which obtained a bias of similar of magnitude.

SUMMARY Objectives To analyze the biocompatibility of different desensitizers containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) and fluoride in their composition: MI Varnish (MV), Clinpro White Varnish (3M Oral Care), Profluorid Varnish (VOCO), Duraphat (Colgate) and Embrace Varnish (Pulpdent) on human gingival fibroblast cells (hGF). Methods and Materials Human gingival fibroblast (hGF) cells were exposed to several desensitizer extracts at different concentrations (0.1%, 1%, and 4% eluates). Then, in vitro biocompatibility was studied by analyzing the IC50 value, cell proliferation (MTT assay and cell cycle), cell migration (wound healing assay), cell morphology and F-actin content (immunocytofluorescence), and induction of apoptosis/necrosis (flow cytometry). Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey test. Results The lowest cell viability and IC50 were observed in all concentrations of Embrace Varnish-treated hGFs (p Conclusions The results obtained in this study indicate that hGFs show better in vitro biocompatibility after exposure to Clinpro White Varnish, even at the highest concentration employed, making it the most eligible for topical applications. In contrast, Embrace Varnish exhibited a high cytotoxicity towards hGFs that could potentially delay the healing process and regeneration of the oral mucosa, although more studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis.

Do the regulations for street music in Spain lead urban musicians to break the law? This study focuses on street musicians who sing or play musical instruments in a public space for donations/tips. Currently most of their needs are not covered in the laws relating to of street musicians in Spain, several cities do not have this profession regulated and in the localities that do, they prohibit amplification, the sale of their own music (CDs etc.), limit free movement and the instruments that they can use. These are rules that musicians must break in order to work, leaving the buskers who perform in a legal gap or limbo, without defense against the authorities. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of interconnected physical devices, vehicles, and buildings that are embedded with sensors, software, and network connectivity, enabling them to collect and exchange data. This exchange of data between the physical and digital worlds allows for a wide range of applications, from smart homes and cities to industrial automation and healthcare. However, a key challenge faced by IoT nodes is the limited availability of energy to support their operations. Typically, these nodes can only function for a few days based on their duty cycle. This paper introduces a solution that aims to ensure the sustainability of IoT applications by addressing this energy challenge. Thus, we develop a design of a hybrid sustainable energy system designed specifically for IoT nodes, using solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbines (WT) chosen for their multiple benefits and complementarity. The system uses the single-ended primary-inductance converter (SEPIC) and is controlled using a hybrid approach, combining Harris Hawks Optimization and Particle Swarm Optimization (HHHOPSO). Each SEPIC converter boost the electrical energy generated to attain the required voltage level when charging the battery. The proposed methodology is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink and its performance is measured using appropriate metrics. In terms of efficiency and average power, the results show that the suggested method outperforms previous strategies. Our system powers also many sensor nodes, leading to a high level of sustainability and lowering the carbon footprint associated with traditional energy sources.

This document outlines the training activities that have been completed since the beginning of the grant and their impact. The EOSC-Life training programme is built on the training needs analysis, which was presented in D9.1 Final report of analysis of the training needs of different EOSC-Life users in month 12. EOSC-Life training is aimed at two target communities that have distinct needs and different roles towards establishing a European Open Science Cloud (EOSC): (i) the Research Infrastructures (data) staff and (ii) the end-user of the (data) services offered. The deliverable gives an overview on the wide range of training offers completed, which highlight that EOSC-Life managed extremely well to ensure cross WP involvement and adapted the training to remote offers during the pandemic restrictions. Since the training activities described in D9.2 Review of EOSC-Life training activities, their impact and potential adaptations, our focus has been on developing and publishing the e-learning materials, while activities around courses, workshops and open calls continued. In total, since the beginning of the project we have supported over 1000 participants with in-person/virtual training and over 6000 participants with e-learning. Training in EOSC-Life has been organised in a top-down as well as bottom-up approach; top-down training activities have been organised by the technical work packages in EOSC-Life as well as the training work package, while the Training Open Call process allows for training activities organised by the EOSC-Life community to receive EOSC-Life support. All training activities relate to the needs analysis. Three rounds of the Training Open Call have been completed, in total we received 22 applications and 15 proposals received funding. In conclusion, EOSC-Life training activities were a driver and sustainer of the EOSC-Life community and an important pillar in reaching external audiences.&nbsp

Essential oils are valuable in various industries, but their easy adulteration can cause adverse health effects. Electronic nasal sensors offer a solution for adulteration detection. This article proposes a new system for characterising essential oils based on low-cost sensor networks and machine learning techniques. The sensors used belong to the MQ family (MQ-2, MQ-3, MQ-4, MQ-5, MQ-6, MQ-7, and MQ-8). Six essential oils were used, including Cistus ladanifer, Pinus pinaster, and Cistus ladanifer oil adulterated with Pinus pinaster, Melaleuca alternifolia, tea tree, and red fruits. A total of up to 7100 measurements were included, with more than 118 h of measurements of 33 different parameters. These data were used to train and compare five machine learning algorithms: discriminant analysis, support vector machine, k-nearest neighbours, neural network, and naive Bayesian when the data were used individually or when hourly mean values were included. To evaluate the performance of the included machine learning algorithms, accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score were considered. The study found that using k-nearest neighbours, accuracy, recall, F1-score, and precision values were 1, 0.99, 0.99, and 1, respectively. The accuracy reached 100% with k-nearest neighbours using only 2 parameters for averaged data or 15 parameters for individual data.
