COVID-19 has overwhelmed health services globally. Oral antiviral therapies are licensed worldwide, but indications and efficacy rates vary. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of oral favipiravir in patients hospitalised with COVID-19.We conducted a multicentre, open-label, randomised controlled trial of oral favipiravir in adult patients who were newly admitted to hospital with proven or suspected COVID-19 across five sites in the UK (n=2), Brazil (n=2) and Mexico (n=1). Using a permuted block design, eligible and consenting participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive oral favipiravir (1800 mg twice daily for 1 day; 800 mg twice daily for 9 days) plus standard care, or standard care alone. All caregivers and patients were aware of allocation and those analysing data were aware of the treatment groups. The prespecified primary outcome was the time from randomisation to recovery, censored at 28 days, which was assessed using an intention-to-treat approach. Post-hoc analyses were used to assess the efficacy of favipiravir in patients aged younger than 60 years, and in patients aged 60 years and older. The trial was registered with clinicaltrials.gov, NCT04373733.Between May 5, 2020 and May 26, 2021, we assessed 503 patients for eligibility, of whom 499 were randomly assigned to favipiravir and standard care (n=251) or standard care alone (n=248). There was no significant difference between those who received favipiravir and standard care, relative to those who received standard care alone in time to recovery in the overall study population (hazard ratio [HR] 1·06 [95% CI 0·89-1·27]; n=499; p=0·52). Post-hoc analyses showed a faster rate of recovery in patients younger than 60 years who received favipiravir and standard care versus those who had standard care alone (HR 1·35 [1·06-1·72]; n=247; p=0·01). 36 serious adverse events were observed in 27 (11%) of 251 patients administered favipiravir and standard care, and 33 events were observed in 27 (11%) of 248 patients receiving standard care alone, with infectious, respiratory, and cardiovascular events being the most numerous. There was no significant between-group difference in serious adverse events per patient (p=0·87).Favipiravir does not improve clinical outcomes in all patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19, however, patients younger than 60 years might have a beneficial clinical response. The indiscriminate use of favipiravir globally should be cautioned, and further high-quality studies of antiviral agents, and their potential treatment combinations, are warranted in COVID-19.LifeArc and CW+.

A Dermatite Atópica (DA) é caracterizada como uma doença crônica e inflamatória. A DA atinge aproximadamente 230 milhões de pessoas no mundo e vêm tendo sua incidência aumentada nos últimos anos, de forma semelhante ao que acontece com outras doenças alérgicas. Embora possa surgir em qualquer época da vida, ela se destaca principalmente em crianças, acometendo entre 15% a 25% da faixa etária infantil. Esse distúrbio pode se apresentar como a primeira manifestação em uma cascata de doenças atópicas. Inúmeros estudos demonstram que uma disfunção na barreira epidérmica, a predisposição genética e a desregulação imunológica são contribuintes e fazem parte da fisiopatologia da doença. No que se refere à clínica da DA, o espectro é bastante variável, no entanto, o prurido intenso é um dos principais sintomas, normalmente acompanhado de eczema e escoriações. Além disso, a presença de xerose cutânea generalizada também é comum. A DA pode ser diagnosticada de forma totalmente clínica, sem haver a necessidade de um teste laboratorial definitivo, todavia, testes epicutâneos podem ser úteis para apontar os possíveis fatores desencadeantes da DA. Além disso, alguns critérios como os do Partido de Trabalho do Reino Unido podem ser usados para auxiliar no diagnóstico após a suspeita clínica. O tratamento da doença pode ser feito tanto de forma farmacológica: por meio de corticoides tópicos e orais, inibidores da calcineurina e imunossupressores, como também de forma não farmacológica: envolvendo medidas simples, mas que podem mudar drasticamente a aparição dos sintomas, como o uso diário de hidratantes, banho uma vez por dia na água morna com duração máxima de 10 minutos e uso de sabonetes neutros.

O processo educacional, ao longo dos anos, submeteu-se a várias alterações em sua estrutura, adaptando-se ao desenvolvimento humano e à sociedade moderna. O aprendizado por meio do lúdico proporciona ao discente maior envolvimento e prazer ao realizar as atividades em sala de aula. Identifica-se a importância do lúdico no desenvolvimento da criança, do adolescente, do adulto e do idoso, sem haver restrições de idade ou etnia. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo relatar as atividades e os resultados obtidos com a realização de gincanas de solos na Universidade Federal do Pampa (UNIPAMPA). As gincanas educativas foram realizadas com discentes do componente curricular de Solos, dos cursos de Engenharia Florestal e Gestão Ambiental, da UNIPAMPA. As gincanas tiveram como temas os conteúdos desenvolvidos na disciplina, com o intuito de oportunizar maior entendimento e interesse acerca desses conteúdos, integridade social e prazer nos estudos. As tarefas realizadas nas gincanas foram jogo da memória, mímica com desenho, cruzadinha, qual é o solo e torta na cara. O uso do lúdico no componente curricular Solos apresentou um elevado grau de satisfação, cooperação e recepção entre os discentes.

Introdução: O transtorno afetivo bipolar (TAB) é uma doença mental caracterizada por graves alterações de humor, incluindo humor elevado e depressão, que estão associadas a sintomas cognitivos, físicos e comportamentais. A profilaxia maníaco-depressiva destinada a prevenir a recaída em vários estágios é um dos principais desafios clínicos e de pesquisa na medicação psicotrópica contemporânea. Portanto, o presente trabalho visa promover o conhecimento sobre as abordagens terapêuticas (farmacológicas e não farmacológicas) do episódio de mania no TAB. Metodologia: Para nortear a condução deste estudo, formulou-se a seguinte questão: Quais são os principais tratamentos para os episódios de mania e hipomania no TAB? Para o levantamento bibliográfico deste estudo, foi realizada uma busca online na base de dados - Sistema Online de Busca e Análise de Literatura Médica (MEDLINE) e Literatura Latino-Americana em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS). Essas bases de dados foram escolhidas por conterem publicações nacionais e internacionais. Na pesquisa e levantamento dos artigos, de acordo com o tema em estudo, foram utilizados como descritores os termos Psicose afetivo-bipolar, Transtorno afetivo-bipolar, Transtorno maníaco-depressivo e Tratamento. Resultados: A partir dos textos estudados, foram identificadas duas grandes categorias de tratamentos: abordagens farmacológicas, quatro artigos (55%), e abordagens não farmacológicas, três (45%). Dentre o grupo que trata das abordagens farmacológicas no tratamento do TAB, merecem destaque os artigos que demonstram o tratamento na fase aguda (mania e hipomania) e na fase terapêutica. Para o grupo de tratamento não medicamentoso, existem vários artigos que mostram técnicas e abordagens psicoterapêuticas para redução de sintomas, sugeridas como complemento às abordagens farmacológicas e, por vezes, como ferramentas importantes para melhorar a adesão ao tratamento. Discussão: O diagnóstico precoce e o tratamento de episódios agudos de humor com medicamentos, como o lítio, carbamazepina, valproato, antipsicóticos atípicos e benzodiazepínicos melhoram significativamente os resultados, reduzindo o número de recaídas e dobrando a taxa de resposta ao medicamento. Conclusão: Pesquisas sugerem que a psicoterapia deve ser usada em conjunto com a medicação, pois pode reduzir a frequência e a duração dos episódios de alteração de humor, aumentar a adesão à medicação, reduzir as recaídas e melhorar as impressões clínicas.

Introduction: It is essential for Nursing to value scientific production for the development of an evidence-based practice. The research group is configured as a favorable space for the construction, improvement and development of intellectual skills. Objective: To report the experience of nursing students in founding a study group in the area of injuries. Methodology: Descriptive study of the experience report type about the experience in a group of nursing studies on skin lesions. Results: It was the first group of studies in the Nursing course of the aforementioned institution of higher education, focusing on undergraduate students. Social media were used to publicize the study group, which expanded the scope of the scientific content generated, in addition to exchanging experience with other professionals. The contents discussed in the group meetings were previously thought by the founding members and guiding professors. Active methodologies made it possible for academics to discover new skills, in addition to making them the center of learning Conclusion: The involvement of the academic in the study group allows and facilitates the advancement of knowledge production, which values nursing and allows to go beyond the execution of the technique and allows the action of a reflective practice.

Onions are rich in bioactive and volatile compounds with antioxidant activity. When concentrated in plant extracts and applied directly into food matrices or packaging, they are sensitive to external factors and may have undesirable sensory attributes, such as odors. Therefore, this study sought to encapsulate red onion extract (ROE) in different concentrations (10, 20, 30, and 40%, v/v) into zein fibers by electrospinning. The major volatile compound in ROE was 3(2H)-furanone, 2-hexyl-5-methyl. Adding ROE into the polymeric solutions increased their electrical conductivity and decreased the apparent viscosity, thus decreasing the average diameter of the fibers. The loading capacity of ROE on fibers ranged from 77.3 to 91.5%. The fibers’ random and continuous morphology showed beads at the highest ROE concentration (40%). Fibers membranes showed lower values ​​for contact angles as ROE was added. The antioxidant activity of the fibers ranged from 32.5 to 57.3%.

A partir de uma matriz de análise desenvolvida em estudos anteriores que identificou quatro tipomorfologias das favelas na cidade do Rio de Janeiro – enclave, linha, quadra e malha – este artigo busca aprofundar o seu estudo em cinco momentos, ao longo de 100 anos, de 1922 a 2022, em quatro comunidades da Área de Planejamento 3 (AP3), a Zona Norte, na Cidade do Rio de Janeiro. A abordagem apoia-se em estudos sobre a morfologia urbana da cidade contemporânea onde o entendimento da tipomorfologia se estabelece como matriz síntese das relações entre os processos de urbanização e a conformação do tecido urbano. A metodologia empregada nas análises, que sobrepõe enfoque formal e temporal, se apoia na interpretação das alterações do tecido urbano a partir de mapas oriundos da cartografia oficial da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro e de imagens de satélite disponíveis pela Google. Nas considerações finais argumentamos acerca da relação híbrida que se estabelece entre a urbanização formal e a forma de crescimento da informalidade e verificamos a validade das categorias tipomorfológicas como aproximação sintética e diagramática do fenômeno da favela carioca.

Introduction: Temporal arteritis (TA), or giant cell arteritis, is a systemic autoimmune vasculitis that affects patients over 50 years of age. Temporal artery biopsy is considered the gold standard for diagnosis, although it has low sensitivity. It was shown that TA can lead to irreversible blindness in about 20% of untreated cases. Objective: A concise systematic review was carried out to contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of temporal arteritis, assessing whether a series of patients met the clinical and laboratory criteria for diagnosis, regardless of the biopsy result, as well as whether these results alter the management of these patients. Methods: The research was carried out from December 2022 to January 2023 in the Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Scielo, and Google Scholar databases, following the PRISMA rules for systematic review. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument and the risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Results and Conclusion: A total of 140 articles were found, and a total of 32 articles were evaluated and 6 were included in this systematic review. Considering the Cochrane tool for risk of bias, the overall assessment resulted in 32 studies with a high risk of bias and 43 studies that did not meet GRADE. It was concluded that, regardless of the biopsy result, all patients should immediately start treatment with corticosteroids. Early diagnosis and treatment must be performed to avoid compromising the contralateral eye. In addition, it is necessary to perform other diagnostic imaging tools to increase the sensitivity and closure of the diagnosis of temporal arteritis.

Introduction: In the setting of corneal ectasias, keratoconus (KC) is a bilateral and asymmetrical disease that results in progressive thinning and tilting of the cornea, leading to irregular astigmatism and decreased visual acuity. The condition affects all ethnicities and both sexes. KC prevalence and incidence rates are close to between 0.2 and 4790 per 100,000 people and 1.5 and 25 cases per 100,000 person-years, respectively. For surgeons who implant Ferrara rings, the manufacturer has developed an online nomogram aimed at optimizing patient outcomes. Objective: The present study carried out a systematic review to present the main clinical outcomes of keratoconus treatment using the Ferrara ring. Methods: The systematic review rules of the PRISMA Platform were followed. The literature search was carried out from January to February 2023 in Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Scielo, and Google Scholar databases. Scientific articles from the last 15 years were selected. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument. The risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Results and Conclusion: A total of 60 articles were found, of which only 21 were part of this systematic review, after an eligibility analysis.It was concluded that the insertion of Ferrara rings in keratoconic eyes with previous cross-linking history using the company's nomogram results in significant improvements in visual, refractive, and tomographic results. Corneal densitometry in the anterior layer of the cornea decreases after the implantation of intrastromal corneal ring segments and correlates with corneal keratometry. Over 5 years, Ferrara-type intrastromal corneal ring segment implantation is a safe, effective, and stable procedure for restoring vision in pediatric patients with keratoconus old.

O câncer de mama é o segundo tipo de neoplasia mais frequente no Brasil e é a principal causa de mortalidade por neoplasia entre as mulheres, essencialmente por ser diagnosticado em casos avançados. Faz-se imperativo, identificar as mulheres com maior risco e fazer o diagnóstico precoce, realizado pelo rastreamento mamográfico. No município de Botucatu, embora o número de equipamentos seja suficiente e não haja fila de espera, a maioria dos diagnósticos são feitos em fases avançadas. Levando em consideração a importância da Atenção Primária à Saúde, iniciou-se em 2020 um projeto de extensão universitária que visitou Unidades Básicas de Saúde e Unidades de Saúde da Família da região com o objetivo de promover ações socioeducativas no combate ao câncer de mama mediante rodas de conversa. Esses encontros foram ações integradas e multiprofissionais, contando com as equipes de saúde das unidades, alunos da graduação de medicina, de enfermagem e profissional mastologista. Nas visitas, identificou-se estratégias de monitoramento de cada unidade, bem como dificuldades específicas e comuns da rede. A busca ativa pelas mulheres com idade de rastreio, segundo a Sociedade Brasileira de Mastologia, mostrou-se importante pilar do diagnóstico precoce, destacando o trabalho dos Agentes Comunitários nos territórios. As conversas contribuíram para melhorar a capacitação dos profissionais na identificação de mulheres com potencial alto risco e esclarecimentos da doença, assim como sugestões de mudanças na rotina de monitoramento das unidades. O monitoramento e a busca das mulheres na faixa etária recomendada ou com potencial alto risco devem ser realizados pela atenção primária principalmente por ser a porta de entrada para os serviços de saúde. Assim, ações promotoras de comunicação entre os níveis de saúde devem ser incentivadas para que haja compartilhamento de estratégias visando continuamente melhorar o prognóstico da doença.

This paper considers the steady-state heat transfer process in a fin with a Robin boundary condition at the base (instead of the usual Dirichlet boundary condition at the base). Robin boundary condition models the effect of the thermal resistance between the base of the fin and the surface on which the fin is placed. This work presents an equivalent minimum principle, represented by a convex and coercive functional, ensuring the solution’s existence and uniqueness. In order to illustrate the use of the proposed functional for reaching approximations, the heat-transfer process in a trapezoidal fin considering a piecewise linear approximation is simulated. The Appendix presents a case in which the exact solution in a closed form has been achieved.

Segundo a definição universal, realizada por diversas sociedades internacionais, a insuficiência cardíaca (IC) é uma síndrome clínica composta por sinais e sintomas gerados por uma irregularidade cardíaca estrutural e/ou funcional e corroborada por pelo menos um dos seguintes: elevação dos peptídeos natriuréticos ou evidência objetiva de congestão pulmonar ou sistêmica. O objetivo deste trabalho é expor a função e a importância dos inibidores de SGLT2 no tratamento da insuficiência cardíaca. O presente estudo trata-se de uma revisão de literatura narrativa com o objetivo de analisar a utilização dos inibidores de SGLT2 no tratamento da IC. O levantamento bibliográfico foi efetuado com baseado na seleção de 20 artigos, na base de dados dos sites Pubmed (US National Library of Medicine), Scielo (Scientific Eletronic Library Online) e BJD (Brazilian Journal of Development) no mês de março de 2023. O uso dos ISGLT2 para a IC estão ligados a um efeito de natriurese e diurese osmótica, além de também uma melhora na função endotelial e redução da pressão arterial. Metabolicamente falando, pode ser incluído uma maior cetogênese e aumento de β-hidroxibutirato, maior concentração de cálcio nas mitocôndrias pela inibição da bomba de sódio-hidrogênio do miocárdio, inibição da síntese de colágeno e alterações nas citocinas e tecidos gordurosos do pericárdio.

A aplicação de condicionadores ao solo visa o reforço da estabilidade da agregação (EA) e da sua resistência à erosão. O bagaço de azeitona (BA) húmido, proveniente da produção de azeite em duas fases, pode ser utilizado na compostagem e obtenção de condicionadores orgânicos (CBA). O trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar resultados de ensaio experimental realizado para avaliar a influência de CBA na EA. O ensaio comportou dois solos de potencialmente distinto grau de agregação (1, franco-limoso; 2, franco-argiloso), nos quais se aplicaram três CBA, em três doses. A pandemia do Coronavírus 2019 (COVID-2019), impensável para o século XXI, desencadeou inúmeros desafios a respeito da organização dos indivíduos em seus lares, trabalho e universidades. Por meio de uma revisão de literatura, objetivou-se evidenciar a importância dos projetos de extensão frente a pandemia da COVID-19 e analisar suas estratégias de atuação. Foram pesquisados artigos nas bases de dados Scielo, Pubmed e Lilacs, utilizando os descritores em inglês “extension project” and “pandemic”, e português “projeto de extensão” and “pandemia”, no período entre 2020 e 2021. Os critérios de inclusão foram artigos originais publicados na íntegra sem restrição do tipo de estudo e do ano de publicação. Os artigos fora da temática e os duplicados foram excluídos. Os dados coletados foram avaliados a partir de análise qualitativa. Dos 25 artigos encontrados, foram selecionados 11, onde verificou-se a unanimidade sobre a alta relevância dos projetos de extensão para o combate à pandemia, bem como a importância das ferramentas tecnológicas que vêm sendo utilizadas para o atendimento e o monitoramento ao paciente. Durante a pesquisa tornou-se claro que os projetos de extensão desenvolvidos na pandemia da COVID-19 são ferramentas cruciais para “mover conhecimento”, sendo eficazes no gerenciamento de diversas doenças em áreas mais necessitadas, bem como são capazes de promover a aproximação entre as comunidades acadêmicas e locais.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy in chondrocyte response by in vitro experiments and cartilage repair using an experimental model of osteoarthritis (OA) in the knee of rats. The in vitro experiment was performed with chondrocyte cells, and they were divided into two groups: non-irradiated and irradiated with PBM (808 nm; 0.8 J or 1.4 J). Then, cell proliferation was evaluated after 1, 3, and 5 days. The experimental model of osteoarthritis (OA) was performed in the knee of 64 Wistar rats, and they were assorted into control group (CG), PBM (808 nm; 1.4 J). The results of in vitro showed that PBM 1.4 J increased cell proliferation, on days 1 and 5. However, after 3 days was demonstrated a significant increase in cell proliferation in PBM 0.8 J. The in vivo experiment results demonstrated, on histological analysis, that PBM presented less intense signs of tissue degradation with an initial surface discontinuity at the superficial zone and disorganization of the chondrocytes in the cartilage region when compared to CG, after 4 and 8 weeks. These findings were confirmed by immunohistochemistry and qRT-PCR analysis which showed that PBM increased IL-4, IL-10, COL-2, Aggrecan, and TGF-β which are anabolic factors and acts on extracellular matrix. Also, PBM reduces the IL1-β, an inflammatory marker that operates as a catabolic factor on articular cartilage. In conclusion, these results suggest that PBM may have led to a return to tissue homeostasis, promoting chondroprotective effects and stimulating the components of the articular tissue.

Introdução: Perdas auditivas correspondem à quarta maior causa de incapacitação no mundo, com mais de um bilhão de pessoas com algum grau de perda, acarretando elevados gastos anuais. O déficit auditivo pode ser consequência de infecções, fatores genéticos, ambientais e comorbidades como hipertensão e diabetes mellitus (DM). Apesar de ainda o papel da DM na perda auditiva ser incerto, estudos sugerem que a microangiopatia e neuropatia diabéticas estejam envolvidas. Objetivo: Avaliar o perfil audiométrico de pacientes com DM atendidos em um ambulatório em Curitiba-PR. Métodos: Estudo observacional transversal com avaliação de 41 pacientes diabéticos entre abril de 2020 e março de 2021 quanto a queixa auditiva, presença de comorbidades e grau e tipo de perda auditiva. Resultados: A média de idade foi de 66,3 anos, sendo 63,4% do sexo feminino e o valor médio da hemoglobina glicada (HbA1c) foi de 7,67%. 82,9% dos pacientes apresentaram tinnitus e 68,3% apresentaram hipoacusia. 36,6% apresentaram hipertensão, enquanto 80,5% tinham dislipidemia. Quanto ao controle de glicemia, 65,9% tinham HbA1c ≥ 7%. Conclusões: A DM pode estar associada com perda auditiva, não sendo, contudo, possível constatar uma clara correlação de causa e efeito. Assim, novos estudos, mais aprofundados e com um N maior, são necessários.

Introdução: O glúten é um complexo proteico, em que predominam as proteínas glutenina e gliadina, sendo que a gliadina é considerada como a fração tóxica do composto, pois quando é consumida por indivíduos predispostos geneticamente, é parcialmente digerida, mas não absorvida, desencadeando reações imunológicas como a intolerância, reação autoimune (doença celíaca) e reação de hipersensibilidade. Objetivos: O objetivo do trabalho foi realizar uma investigação laboratorial em produtos industrializados prontos para consumo que possuem o rótulo de “Não contém glúten”, e desenvolver uma discussão sobre os riscos da rotulagem inadequada de alimentos para esses indivíduos com susceptibilidade inflamatória a apresentar “reações alimentares”. Material e métodos: O preparo das amostras foi realizado em laboratório seguindo o manual do teste de imunocromatografia AgraStrip® Gluten G12 produzido pela Romer Labs®, caracterizado como teste rápido em tiras qualitativas, com limite de detecção de 5,10 e 20 ppm. Resultados: A leitura dos resultados foi feita com base na observação da região analítica da tira reagente após o tempo determinado, sendo considerados válidos aqueles em que a zona de controle aparece demarcada, dessa forma, dos seis alimentos testados, todos foram válidos e “não reagentes”. O teste apresentou-se sensível à análise dos alimentos, mostrando a necessidade da rotulagem e da maior atenção no processo de coleta e fabricação da matéria, já que pode haver uma contaminação cruzada, gerando em indivíduos propícios um agravamento em seus supostos quadros inflamatórios. Conclusão: Concluímos que são necessários mais estudos sobre os mecanismos imunológicos envolvidos nas desordens relacionadas ao glúten, além da realização de mais testes para confirmar a eficiência da rotulagem.

The Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation Scholarships (PIBID) is a brazilian policy for improving teaching quality. Students and teachers involved experience a form of supervised internship that allows the experience of pedagogical praxis. Studying of the transmission of hereditary characteristics and relationships of dominance and recessivity between alleles are complex abstract concepts that demand the use of appropriate didactic resources. In this context, PIBID scholarship holders, within the Biology area’s scope, were diagnosed through the observation in the third year classes of the public school in Brazil, the need to use an alternative methodology that playfully approached these concepts. In the present study, the aim was to produce a fictitious species made with modeling clay, so that, from the "mating" of this individuals, students would observe the transmission of characteristics and determine the genotypes and phenotypes of the “offspring”. The learning was assessed using a a questionnaire that was applied before and after the activity. The questionnaire assessed students' understanding of the concepts of genotype and phenotype, dominance and recessivity, homozygous and heterozygous, parental and filial generation, the understanding of Mendel's experimental methods, and the ability to contextualize the content. In general, the average percentage of students who knew how to define the concept correctly increased, and the percentage of students who did not know how to answer decreased for most questions. The results showed an improvement in the understanding of genetic concepts by students. We also observed an improvement in writing expressing and scientifica experimental method comprehension.

The educational process over the years has undergone several changes in its structure, being adapted to human development and modern society. Learning in a playful way provides the student with greater involvement with activities and pleasure in carrying them out in the classroom. The importance of play in the development of children, adolescents, adults and elderly people is identified, without age or ethnic restrictions. The present paper had as objective to report the activities and results obtained with the adoption of scavenger hunts of soil at UNIPAMPA. Educational competitions were held with the students of the Soils curricular component of the courses in Forestry Engineering and Environmental Management at UNIPAMPA, having as their theme the contents developed in the discipline in order to create opportunities for greater understanding, interest in the content, social integrity and pleasure with the studies. The tasks performed in the competitions were called Memory Game, Mimicry with drawing, crossword, what is the soil and pie on the face. The playful treatment in soils showed a high degree of satisfaction, cooperation and reception among the students. El proceso educativo a lo largo de los años ha sufrido diversos cambios en su estructura, adaptándose al desarrollo humano y a la sociedad moderna. Aprender de forma lúdica proporciona al alumno una mayor implicación con las actividades y el placer de realizarlas en el aula. Se identifica la importancia del juego en el desarrollo de niños, adolescentes, adultos y adultos mayores, sin restricciones de edad o etnia. El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo reportar las actividades y resultados obtenidos con la realización de yincanas de suelo en la UNIPAMPA. Se realizaron concursos didácticos con los estudiantes del componente curricular Suelos de las carreras de Ingeniería Forestal y Gestión Ambiental de la UNIPAMPA, teniendo como tema los contenidos desarrollados en la disciplina con el fin de generar espacios de mayor comprensión, interés por el contenido, integridad social y placer con los estudios. Las tareas realizadas en las competencias fueron juego de memoria, mímica con dibujo, crucigrama, cuál es el solo y pastel en la cara. El trato lúdico en solos mostró un alto grado de satisfacción, cooperación y acogida entre los alumnos. O processo educacional, ao longo dos anos, submeteu-se a várias alterações em sua estrutura, adaptando-se ao desenvolvimento humano e à sociedade moderna. O aprendizado por meio do lúdico proporciona ao discente maior envolvimento e prazer ao realizar as atividades em sala de aula. Identifica-se a importância do lúdico no desenvolvimento da criança, do adolescente, do adulto e do idoso, sem haver restrições de idade ou etnia. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo relatar as atividades e os resultados obtidos com a realização de gincanas de solos na Universidade Federal do Pampa (UNIPAMPA). As gincanas educativas foram realizadas com discentes do componente curricular de Solos, dos cursos de Engenharia Florestal e Gestão Ambiental, da UNIPAMPA. As gincanas tiveram como temas os conteúdos desenvolvidos na disciplina, com o intuito de oportunizar maior entendimento e interesse acerca desses conteúdos, integridade social e prazer nos estudos. As tarefas realizadas nas gincanas foram jogo da memória, mímica com desenho, cruzadinha, qual é o solo e torta na cara. O uso do lúdico no componente curricular Solos apresentou um elevado grau de satisfação, cooperação e recepção entre os discentes.

O diabetes mellitus tipo 2 é uma das doenças crônicas não transmissíveis mais prevalentes e o seu controle adequado na Atenção Primária à Saúde evita complicações e o uso desnecessário de outros serviços de saúde. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar o tratamento e controle do diabetes mellitus tipo 2 em Unidades de Saúde da Família de Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo. Trata-se de um estudo longitudinal realizado nos anos de 2016, 2017 e 2018. A amostra foi constituída por cem participantes e coletados dados sociodemográficos, clínicos e laboratoriais. A maioria dos participantes era do sexo feminino (63%) e a média de idade foi de 66,9 anos. Dentre os medicamentos prescritos para o tratamento do diabetes, destacou-se o uso de metformina em monoterapia, seguido de metformina associada às sulfonilureias e insulina associada à antidiabético oral. Verificou-se associação positiva entre o controle glicêmico e idade igual ou superior a sessenta anos, bem como o uso de metformina isoladamente ou em combinação com outros antidiabéticos. Evidenciou-se que, ao longo dos anos, houve aumento na prescrição de medicamentos para o tratamento da doença. Assim, sugere-se o gerenciamento da farmacoterapia pela equipe multiprofissional para a integralidade do cuidado às pessoas com diabetes.

Cardiac tamponade is a potential complication in neonates with central venous catheters (CVC). Cardiac tamponade may be due to infection, a CVC related complication, or parental nutrition (PN) effusion.This is a preterm (30 weeks gestational age), very low birth weight male, admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, requiring nasal continuous positive airway pressure. PN was provided via an umbilical venous catheter. An unexpected cardiac arrest occurred on the third day of life with an unsuccessful resuscitation. Autopsy revealed pericardial effusion composed of PN fluid with cardiac tamponade as the cause of death.Cardiac tamponade due to total PN effusion in the premature neonate may be fatal. The mechanism of the epicardial/pericardial effusion is not known.

This study aimed to produce soluble potato starch ultrafine fibers for the encapsulation of pinhao coat extract (PCE), evaluating their relative crystallinity (RC), thermal stability, antioxidant activity, antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, as well as in vitro biological digestion. In the simulation of in vitro biological digestion, the phenolic compounds release profile was also evaluated. The ultrafine fibers were produced by electrospinning, based on a polymeric solution composed of soluble potato starch (50% w/v) and formic acid. Then, PCE was incorporated at various concentrations (0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5%, w/w, dry basis). The endothermic event of free PCE was not observed in the ultrafine fibers, which suggests its encapsulation. The RC decreased according to the increase in PCE concentration in the ultrafine fibers. The PCE resisted thermal treatments when encapsulated into the ultrafine fibers (100 and 180°C), and the ultrafine fibers with 1% PCE presented the highest amount of preserved phenolic compounds. Feocromocitoma é uma neoplasia rara de células cromafins, localizado nas adrenais que apresenta importância por ter a capacidade de incitar crises hipertensivas potencialmente fatais. Os sinais clínicos estão relacionados com a liberação de catecolaminas. A ressecção cirúrgica é o tratamento definitivo, mas o tratamento clínico também mostra-se profícuo. Objetivou-se descrever um caso de feocromocitoma em uma cadela de nove anos, a qual apresentava hematomas cutâneos e perioculares, comportamento apático, anorexia há quatro dias e polidipsia. A paciente foi recebida no Hospital Veterinário da UNIJUÍ, e após consulta clínica e internação, a tutora optou pela eutanásia e necrópsia motivada pela baixa adesão da cadela ao tratamento. O animal foi encaminhado para o laboratório de Patologia Veterinária da mesma instituição que evidenciou a adrenal direita com proliferação de células vacuolizadas focalmente extensa, relativo a feocromocitoma. Diante disso, o médico veterinário deve conhecer e considerar este tipo de neoplasia.

The objective of this study was to produce renewable aerogels from native and anionic corn starches loaded with pinhao coat extract (PCE) with water absorbent capacity, antioxidant activity and controlled release of phenolic compounds in a hydrophilic food simulant media. Starch aerogels were produced with different concentrations of PCE, 5 and 10%, and evaluated for FT-IR spectra, relative crystallinity, thermal properties, water absorption capacity (WAC), density, antioxidant activity and in vitro release. Thermal stability of the compounds was improved by the incorporation of PCE. The aerogels presented high WAC of 541 to 731% and low-density values of 0.03 g.cm−1. The highest inhibition of DPPH and ABTS radicals was presented to anionic starch aerogels with 10% PCE rendering 26% of inhibition of ABTS and 24% of DPPH. The maximum in vitro releases for native and anionic starch aerogels with 5% of PCE were 28.70 and 29.44%, respectively, and for aerogels with 10% of PCE they were 34.27 and 35.94%, respectively. The anionic starch aerogels had the highest amount of phenolic compounds released when compared to the native starch aerogels. The starch-based bioactive aerogels showed potential to be applied in food packaging as water absorbent and as a carrier of phenolic compounds.

Collagen (Col) from marine organisms has been emerging as an important alternative for commercial Col and it has been considered highly attractive by the industry. Despite the positive effects of Col from marine origin, there is still limited understanding of the effects of this natural biomaterial in the process of wound healing in animal studies. In this context, the purpose of this study was to perform a systematic review of the literature to examine the effects of Col from different marine species in the process of skin tissue healing using experimental models of skin wound. The search was carried out according to the orientations of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA), and the descriptors of the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) were defined: "marine collagen," "spongin," "spongin," "skin," and "wound." A total of 42 articles were retrieved from the databases PubMed and Scopus. After the eligibility analyses, this review covers the different marine sources of Col reported in 10 different papers from the beginning of 2011 through the middle of 2019. The results were based mainly on histological analysis and it demonstrated that Col-based treatment resulted in a higher deposition of granulation tissue, stimulation of re-epitalization and neoangiogenesis and increased amount of Col of the wound, culminating in a more mature morphological aspect. In conclusion, this review demonstrates that marine Col from different species presented positive effects on the process of wound skin healing in experimental models used, demonstrating the huge potential of this biomaterial for tissue engineering proposals.

Objetivos: A princípio, o Diabetes Mellitus do tipo 1(DM I) é considerado uma doença endócrina autoimune órgão-específica, no qual resulta a destruição seletiva das células beta das ilhotas pancreáticas, produtoras de insulina, pela infiltração progressiva de células inflamatórias pelos linfócitos T autorreativos. As manifestações clínicas do distúrbio metabólico surgem quando cerca de 80% das células beta pancreáticas são destruídas. A doença apresenta patogenia complexa, envolvendo a participação de vários fatores, dentre esses a susceptibilidade imunogenética com forte associação aos genes de histocompatibilidade (HLA), eventos ambientais (infecções) e resposta autoimune contra antígenos próprios pancreáticos, presença de linfócitos autorreativos e/ou autoanticorpos, provocando a destruição das células beta pancreáticas, desencadeando as anormalidades metabólicas típicas dessa doença. Contudo, o diagnóstico e o tratamento do acometimento autoimune de outros tecidos, particularmente o tiroidiano, são importantes na redução de comorbidades, assim ao propósito quantificar a prevalência dos autoanticorpos anti-GAD e anti-IA2 e a eficiência do tratamento farmacológico em indivíduos do sexo masculino na faixa etária de 15 a 20 anos. Método: foi realizado um levantamento epidemiológico nas bases de dados dos municípios de Rio Claro e São Carlos – SP, contemplando 30 indivíduos do sexo masculino, na faixa etária de 55-60 anos com diagnóstico confirmado de DM I, contemplando o Grupo DM I (GDMI) e 30 indivíduos do sexo masculino na faixa etária de 15-20 anos, sem diagnóstico confirmado de DM I para os valores de referência do anti-GAD e anti-IA2, sendo alocado no Grupo Controle (GC). Os participantes tiveram sangue coletado no período matutino após 12 horas de jejum, as amostras eram centrifugadas e o soro obtido era separado em frascos para a dosagem de glicemia de jejum, hemoglobina glicada e frutosamida. O soro era congelado a temperatura de -10ºC, estocado a -70º C para posterior dosagem dos autoanticorpos. Após esse procedimento, os voluntários selecionados foram encaminhados a uma avaliação endocrinológica para a prescrição e adequação farmacológica de insulina exógena, no qual foram convidados a retornarem para a avaliação laboratorial sanguínea com a nova prescrição farmacológica após 24 semanas de uso, fator este que permitiu identificar uma relação entre o tratamento utilizado e os valores sanguíneos de glicemia de jejum, hemoglobina glicada e frutosamida. Com isso, foi utilizado uma análise comparativa dos títulos de anti-GAD e anti-IA2 dos dois grupos, sendo empregado o teste t student para amostras independentes. Desse modo, estipulou-se 5% na rejeição da hipótese de nulidade, e para a análise estatística foi analisado o programa de informática SPSS. Resultados: a mediana de idade foi de 17.19 para ambos os grupos. O GC apresentou uma média de glicemia de jejum de 88,7 mg\dL, enquanto GDMI foi de 128,3 mg\dL. Para a análise do anti-GAD, o GC evidenciou valores médios de 0,27 ± 0,29 U\ml. E o GDMI, um valor médio de 1,20 ± 1,35 U\ml. Visto isso, em relação ao anti-IA2, o GC mostrou uma média de 0,24 ± 0,27 U\ml, e o GDMI de 0,40 ± 0,67 U\ml. Em seguida as 24 semanas de tratamento farmacológico com insulina exógena de longa e curta duração foi evidenciado um melhor controle glicêmico, no que tange os parâmetros de glicemia de jejum, hemoglobina glicada e frutosamida Conclusão: diante dos resultados apresentados, foi possível demonstrar que o anti-GAD evidenciou uma maior prevalência entre os indivíduos do GDMI em relação aos indivíduos do GP, evidenciando que este seria o mais importante dos autoanticorpos avaliados, permitindo a detecção de risco para o desenvolvimento do DM I. Vale ressaltar que os resultados obtidos, fundamental para a promoção e prevenção de saúde, visto que demonstram a possível identificação precoce do risco para o desenvolvimento de DM I, junto com o tratamento prescrito realizado de forma adequada, a fim de propiciar a conscientização com menores custos para a saúde pública do município.

A terapêutica com plantas medicinais são o que muitas pessoas e comunidades têm como alternativa viável para tratamento de doenças e prevenção à saúde, em vista disso observasse crescente aceitação da fitoterapia por profissionais de saúde da atenção básica assim como a observação do aumento de seu uso pela população. Dessa forma as investigações etnofarmacológicas e etnobotânicas têm sido a principal abordagem reconhecida por cientistas em todo o mundo, como uma estratégia de seleção de plantas medicinais. As qualidades e eficancia dessas abordagens já foram discutidas, restando poucas dúvidas de seu potencial e impactos biológicos, econômicos e sociais. O presente estudo teve como objetivo registrar o conhecimento popular das plantas medicinais utilizadas pela população do município de Tocantinopolis - TO, verificando a indicações terapêuticas, parte utilizada e o modo de preparo das plantas citadas. A coleta de dados foi realizada de acordo com a metodologia adaptada de Albuquerque & Hanazaki (2006), através de entrevistas estruturadas, abordando indivíduos residentes no município de Tocantinópolis. Foram registradas 34 espécies de plantas medicinais no município de Tocantinopolis, tendo com parte mais utilizada a folha das plantas e modo preparo utilizado chá. Foram relatadas diversas indicações terapêuticas, sendo as indicações de maior prevalência analgésica 17,64%, tosse 11,76%, anti-inflamatório 11,76%, má digestão 11,76%, sendo as demais indicações com menor ocorrência.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the tissue performance of the association of photobiomodulation (PBM) and chitosan hydrogel (Ch), using in vitro and in vivo studies, in culture of chondrocytes and in an experimental model of osteoarthritis (OA) in the knee of rats. The chitosan hydrogel was characterized by pH, gelation time, and degradation rate. For the in vitro study, chondrocyte cells were seeded in the Ch irradiated or not with PBM to assess cell viability and proliferation after 1, 3, and 5 days. For the in vivo study, sixty Wistar rats with OA were randomly distributed: control group (CG), Ch hydrogel injection (Ch), Ch hydrogel injection associated with PBM (Ch/PBM). The characterization results revealed that Ch hydrogels can be controlled precisely by variation of the urea and urease concentrations. The in vitro findings demonstrated that Ch and Ch/PBM are biocompatible and noncytotoxic. The in vivo findings showed that PBM associated with Ch prevented articular degeneration by stimulating anabolic factor (TGF-β) and reducing catabolic factor (TNF-α) and increasing the gene related to components of the cartilage extracellular matrix. In conclusion, the PBM associated with Ch can be used as a cartilage repair application.

BACKGROUND The supplementation of folic acid in food is essential in the human diet. The present study aimed to encapsulate folic acid at different concentrations (5, 10 and 15% (w/w) on a dry basis) in potato starch nanofibers produced through electrospinning. The starch/folic acid nanofibers were evaluated through morphology, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, thermal properties, encapsulation efficiency (EE) and in vitro simulation of the human digestion. The nanofibers were also evaluated based on the folic acid content after thermal treatment (100 and 180 °C) and UVA irradiation (1 and 24 h). RESULTS Folic acid incorporation influenced the morphology of the nanofibers to display a homogeneous and beadless morphology for nanofibers containing 15% folic acid compared with the other nanofibers (0, 5 and 10% folic acid). The mean diameter varied from 75 to 81 nm. Folic acid characteristic bands and peaks were not found in the nanofiber FTIR spectra and thermograms, respectively. The EE was 73, 87 and 95% for nanofibers with 5, 10 and 15% folic acid, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The starch nanofibers protected folic acid from high temperature and UVA irradiation and during in vitro digestion, showing a release of the vitamin at the end of the simulation (intestinal conditions). The supplementation of folic acid in foods can be effectively achieved by its encapsulation into starch nanofibers, to ensure its protection and controlled release. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

This work proposes a convex functional endowed with a minimum, which occurs for the solution of the thermal radiation and natural convection heat transfer problem in a rectangular profile porous fin with a fluid flowing through it. The minimum principle ensures the (mathematically demonstrated) uniqueness of the solution and allows the problem simulation by employing a minimization procedure. Darcy’s law with the Oberbeck–Boussinesq approximation simplifies the momentum equation. The energy equation assumes thermal equilibrium between the porous matrix and fluid, allowing comparisons with previous authors’ models, which accounts for the effects of a porosity parameter, a radiation parameter, and a temperature ratio on the temperature. Results for very long fin and finite-length fin with insulated tip were successfully compared with previous works. Closed-form exact solutions for two limiting cases (no convection and no thermal radiation) are also presented.

Due to the complexity involved in the healing process of full thickness burns, the literature looks for alternatives to optimize tissue reconstruction. The objective of this study was to explore the action of photobiomodulation therapy associated with MSCs in the healing process of third degree burns. A total of 96 male Wistar rats were used, distributed in four groups with 24 animals each: Control Group, Laser Group, Cell Therapy Group, and Laser Group and Cell Therapy. The burn was performed with aluminum plate (150 °C). We performed analysis of wound contraction, histology, immunohistochemistry, birefringence analysis, and immunoenzymatic assay to evaluate tissue quality. Our results demonstrate that the association of the techniques is able to accelerate the repair process, modulating the inflammatory process, presenting a cutaneous tissue with better quality. Thus, we conclude that the use of photobiomodulation therapy associated with cell therapy is a promising treatment in the repair of total thickness burns.

Pinhao coat extract is rich in phenolic compounds. Thus, the present study aimed to encapsulate pinhao (Araucaria angustifolia) coat extract (PCE) in electrospun starch fibers, and evaluate its antioxidant activity and in vitro release. The PCE’ total and individual phenolic compounds were evaluated. Fiber-forming polymer solutions were prepared within 50% of soluble potato starch in 75% of formic acid containing PCE in various concentrations [0%, 0.5%, 1.0% or 1.5% (w/v)] and measured by its rheological parameters and electrical conductivity. The fibers were electrospun and evaluated by efficiency of encapsulation, morphology, size distribution, thermal stability, infrared spectrum, antioxidant activity and in vitro release. The PCE presented high amount of total phenolic compounds (225.32 ± 0.89 μg·g−1) and high concentrations of catechin/epicatechin dimer and catechin. The electrospun starch fibers had encapsulation efficiency values of 62–100% and improved fiber morphology. Encapsulated PCE presented higher thermal stability than its free form and FT-IR spectra showed interactions between fibers constituents. Starch fibers loaded with different PCE concentrations showed antioxidant activity of 28% inhibition, with no statistical difference between the concentrations (p ˃ 0.05). The fibers showed rapid and in low quantities in vitro release, with fibers loaded with 0.5% PCE presenting higher encapsulation efficiency and lower % release. Throughout this study outcome, we can suggest that this biodegradable nanomaterial is applicable as an antioxidant agent in the food industry.

A sepse é classificada sendo uma emergência médica que descreve a resposta imunológica sistêmica do corpo a um processo inflamatório local, podendo levar à disfunção orgânica e à morte. Mesmo havendo uma grande demanda de atualização da conduta médica, a síndrome continua com alta prevalência no Brasil e no mundo. Este estudo trata-se de uma revisão narrativa com o propósito de discutir e descrever sobre a sepse e sua fisiopatologia, como também, demonstrar como esta síndrome afeta a vida pessoal dos indivíduos acometidos. Foi utilizado o banco de dados: SciElo (Scientific Eletronic Library Online) e PubMed (US National Library of Medicine), com dados científicos de 10 de janeiro de 2023, sem restrição de idioma e sem restrição ao ano de publicação. Vários estudos mostram que a sepse é uma alteração do equilíbrio imunológico entre inflamação e anti-inflamatório. Ademais, a regulação das vias pró e anti-inflamatórias diante da sepse leva a uma liberação não local, mas sistêmica de citocinas, mediadores e moléculas relacionadas a patógenos, colaborando na ativação da coagulação e cascatas do complemento. Em suma, a sepse continua sendo um fardo significativo para os sistemas de saúde em todo o mundo. Porém, os avanços feitos na compreensão de sua fisiopatologia nos últimos 20 anos superam tudo o que foi feito antes.

Mestrado de dupla diplomação com a UTFPR - Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná O processo de elaboração de azeite na indústria em contínuo de duas fases promove uma grande geração de resíduos de bagaço de azeitona húmido. Esse resíduo consiste numa mistura de pulpa, caroço e água, o que dificulta a disposição final devido ao alto teor de humidade. Uma das linhas de desclassificação de resíduo a subproduto, conforme nova normativa da Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente (APA), é sua aplicação como composto o fertilizante orgânico, já que o bagaço é um material orgânico com o valor de C orgânico entre 30 a 42%. A matéria orgânica do solo é uma fração importante para assegurar a estabilidade estrutural, a retenção de água e a disponibilidade de nutrientes, entre outros aspetos, pelo que é por outro lado especialmente em solos agrícolas, garantir a incorporação de resíduos orgânicos ao solo. O objetivo do trabalho foi averiguar a capacidade de formação de agregados estáveis de três condicionadores correspondentes a compostos produzidos com diferentes proporções de bagaço de azeitona, fonte de azoto e agente estruturante (condicionador A, B e C), aplicados em três doses diferentes (10 ton/ha, 20 ton/ha e 40 ton/ha), e em duas granulometrias diferentes (fino e grosseiro) para dois solos distintos da região de Trás-os-Montes, o leptossolo êutrico (solo 1) e o fluvissolo êutrico (solo 2). Os tratamentos correspondentes a misturas solo – condicionador (e controlo) foram submetidos a ciclos (1 ciclo = 24h) de humedecimento e secagem aplicados em amostras iniciais de 100 g, ao longo de 30 dias. As coletas foram realizadas aos 3, 6, 10, 20 e 30 dias de ensaio. Após a coleta das amostras, utilizou-se o aparelho estabilizador de agregados, no qual foi realizada a agitação e crivagem em húmido de quatro subamostras de 4g por tratamento. Estas subamostras passaram pelo processo sucessivamente com 100 mL de água destilada e com solução de hexametafosfato de sódio. O processo foi finalizado com a secagem em estufa a 105ºC das frações não retidas no crivo em cada etapa, e pesagem após o período de 24 horas. Os dados coletados foram curados e tratados estatisticamente (análise de variância, ANOVA, e teste de comparação de médias, LSD) para a comparação do efeito dos diferentes tratamentos na estabilidade da agregação do solo. O efeito dos tratamentos na estabilidade da agregação do solo 2 não foi significativo. No solo 1, os condicionadores tiveram efeitos positivos na estabilidade de agregados, embora sem diferenças significativas entre os três condicionadores testados. A granulometria dos condicionadores tem também efeito na estabilidade dos agregados, assim como a sua dosagem, embora, neste caso, se tenham verificado efeitos negativos nas dosagens mais elevadas. O uso de condicionadores à base do bagaço de azeitona proporciona um efeito genericamente positivo nos solos com fraca agregação (caso do leptossolo êutrico- solo 1) no qual o seu melhor incremento foi a dosagem 3 (40 ton/ha) com o condicionador C. Assim, impactando indiretamente de forma positiva na absorção de nutrientes, na redução riscos de erosão e a resistência à seca, além de proporcionar uma alternativa adequada para o destino final do resíduo da produção de azeite e, portanto, para o meio ambiente. The continuous two-phase process of producing olive oil in the industry promotes a large generation of wet olive pomace residues. This residue consists of a mixture of pulp, stone and water, which makes final disposal difficult due to the high moisture content. One of the lines of declassification from waste to by-product, according to new regulations from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), is its application as organic fertilizer as compost, since bagasse is an organic material with an organic C value between 30 to 42%. Soil organic matter is an important fraction to ensure structural stability, water retention and nutrient availability, among other aspects, so it is on the other hand, especially in agricultural soils, to ensure the incorporation of organic residues into the soil. The objective of this work was to investigate the ability to form stable aggregates of three conditioners corresponding to compounds produced with different proportions of olive pomace, nitrogen source and structuring agent (conditioner A, B and C), applied in three different doses (10 ton/ha, 20 ton/ha and 40 ton/ha), and in two different granulometries (fine and coarse) for two different soils in the region of Trás-os-Montes, the eutric leptosol (soil 1) and the eutric fluvisol ( only 2). The treatments corresponding to soil – conditioner mixtures (and control) were subjected to cycles (1 cycle = 24h) of wetting and drying applied in initial samples of 100 g, over 30 days. Collections were performed at 3, 6, 10, 20 and 30 days of testing. After collecting the samples, the aggregate stabilizer device was used, in which the agitation and wet sieving of four subsamples of 4g per treatment were performed. These subsamples were successively processed with 100 mL of distilled water and with sodium hexametaphosphate solution. The process was completed with drying in an oven at 105ºC of the fractions not retained in the sieve at each stage, and weighing after a period of 24 hours. The collected data were cured and statistically treated (analysis of variance, ANOVA, and comparison of means test, LSD) to compare the effect of different treatments on soil aggregation stability. The effect of treatments on the stability of soil aggregation 2 was not significant. In soil 1, the conditioners had positive effects on aggregate stability, although there were no significant differences between the three tested conditioners. The granulometry of the conditioners also has an effect on the stability of the aggregates, as well as their dosage, although, in this case, negative effects were observed at higher dosages.The use of conditioners based on olive pomace provides a generally positive effect on soils with low aggregation (e.g. eutric leptosol-soil 1) in which the best increase was the dosage 3 (40 ton/ha) with the conditioner C. Thus, indirectly positively impacting the absorption of nutrients, reducing erosion risks and drought resistance, in addition to providing a suitable alternative for the final destination of the residue from olive oil production and, therefore, for the environment.

The ocelot is an important Neotropical mesopredator and information on its spatial ecology remains scarce. Here we estimated the ocelot home range in a remnant of Lowland Atlantic Forest in Southeastern Brazil. The data were collected by camera traps installed at eight known ocelot latrines. We estimated the home range both based on the Minimum Convex Polygon (MCP) and the 95% adaptive Kernel density estimator (95%K) to compare with other published studies. We identified 22 ocelots (adult males = 8; adult females = 12; cubs = 2). Six males were recorded at more than one latrine, while all females were recorded at only one sampling point. In addition to male ocelots being recorded at a large number of points, they showed greater intrasexual spatial overlap as they used the same latrines, suggesting larger home ranges than females. The mean home range size for males was 12.1 ± SE 4.4 km2(range = 6.2 to 20.8 km2) using MCP, and 19.9 ± SE 9.5 km2(range = 10.1 to 38.9 km2) applying 95%K. Despite our estimates representing an approximation of the total area used by males, both values are consistent with those reported from other locations. Our data complemented the gradient of vegetation type sampled for ocelots in Atlantic Forest and support the suggestion that this environmental variable and, consequently, its effect on prey availability, influence the home range size of ocelot. Information on population ecology and other spatial ecology data are also presented.

Considerando os resultados obtidos na investigação empírica, o trabalho avança sobre aspectos de disputas arbitrais entre clima e investimento, bem como analisa o acordo que combina as cláusulas já identificadas a meios alternativos à arbitragem. De tudo, ressai a necessidade inafastável de consolidar nos acordos uma visão institucional qualitativa do IED, já explorada na primeira parte da dissertação A partir da vinculação entre o combate às mudanças climáticas e o investimento estrangeiro direto, a dissertação intenta enfrentar a seguinte questão: como pode ser avaliada a interação entre as transformações climáticas e o investimento estrangeiro direto (IED) nos tratados de investimento assinados após o Acordo de Paris? Para respondê-la, as reflexões partem de algumas premissas, desveladas na primeira parte do trabalho: (1) a ciência das mudanças climáticas, que as caracteriza como uma crise mundial; (2) a regulação normativa que aponta para o fomento ao IED de baixo carbono, no marco do Acordo de Paris e da Agenda 2030 da ONU; (3) a economia das mudanças climáticas que introduz o risco climático na agenda institucional do IED destinada ao setor privado e aos Estados. Apesar desta irradiação das preocupações com o clima nas searas jurídica e econômica, os tratados internacionais de investimento apresentam dificuldades natas nesta direção. Assim, a segunda parte da pesquisa examina as pressões por reformas no direito internacional dos investimentos (encetadas na aproximação dos acordos com o desenvolvimento sustentável), as quais coexistem com forças da continuidade (erigidas sobre a concepção histórica dos tratados ligada à exploração de combustíveis fósseis). Dada esta tensão, investiga-se empiricamente o estágio atual da inserção de considerações sobre o clima em acordos de investimento firmados desde a assinatura do Acordo de Paris. No plano quantitativo, extrai se que há uma incipiente, porém crescente, incorporação da terminologia climática nos textos ao longo do tempo. No âmbito qualitativo, à luz das premissas já verificadas, reflete se sobre as funções comuns às cláusulas e seus desafios para que sirvam ao atingimento das metas climáticas. Considering the results obtained in the empirical investigation, the work advances on aspects of arbitration disputes between climate and investment, as well as analyzing an agreement that combines the clauses already identified with alternative meansto arbitration. Above all, a qualitative institutional view of FDI needs to be consolidated in the agreements as it was pointed out in the first part of this work. Based on the link between the fight against climate change and foreign direct investment, the dissertation intends to address the following question: how can the interaction between climate change and foreign direct investment (FDI) be evaluated in investment agreements signed after the Paris Agreement? To answer it, the reflections start from some premises, unveiled in the first part of the work: (1) the science of climate change that characterizes it as a global crisis; (2) the normative regulation that points to the promotion of low carbon FDI, within the framework of the Paris Agreement and the UN 2030 Agenda; (3) the economics of climate change that introduces climate risk into the FDI institutional agenda aimed at the private sector and States. Despite thisirradiation of climate concerns in the legal and economic fields, international investment treaties present natural difficulties in this direction. Thus, the second part of the research examines the pressures for reformsin international investment law (started in the approximation of agreements with sustainable development), which coexist with forces of continuity (built on the historical conception of the treaties linked to the exploitation of fossil fuels). Given this tension, the current stage of the insertion of climate considerations in investment agreements since the signing of the Paris Agreement is empirically investigated. At the quantitative level, it appears that there is an incipient, but growing, incorporation of climate terminology in texts over time. In the qualitative scope, in the light of the premises already verified, it reflects on the common functions of the clauses and their challenges so that they serve the achievement of climate goals.

Transmitted by the virus of the Coronaviridae family – and originating in group II, where the human coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 is also found – bovine coronavirus is present in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract, causing neonatal diarrhea and winter dysentery in cattle adults, also associated with pneumonia. The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is a virus originated in China at the end of 2019, the etiologic agent of Covid-19, which mainly affects the lower respiratory tract in the population. This work aims to review the scientific literature and discuss the differences between bovine and human coronaviruses, making a comparison inherent to the prophylaxis, treatment, symptoms, diagnosis, immune system and transmission thereof, in order to clarify such peculiarities through a bibliographical review on the subject. Este trabalho tem por objetivo revisar a literatura científica e discorrer sobre as diferenças entre o coronavírus bovino e humano, realizando uma comparação inerente à profilaxia, tratamento, sintomas, diagnóstico, sistema imune e transmissão dos mesmos, com o objetivo de esclarecer tais peculiaridades mediante uma revisão bibliográfica relativa ao tema.

The aim of this work was to encapsulate curcumin at different concentrations in capsules and fibers of native potato starch by electrospraying and electrospinning. The best conditions for the production of capsules and fibers were obtained by varying the polymer concentration and resting time of the polymer solution. The best conditions were used for the encapsulation of curcumin. The curcumin-loaded capsules and fibers had an average diameter of 1373 nm to 1787 nm and 108 nm to 142 nm, respectively, and had a high curcumin loading capacity with values ranging from 79.01 % to 97.09 %. Curcumin encapsulated in starch capsules and fibers showed higher thermal stability at 180 °C for 2 h compared to unencapsulated curcumin. The antioxidant activity of starch fibers containing 1 % of curcumin had the greatest ability to inhibit the ABTS radical (45 % inhibition). These materials are promising for use in food or active packaging.

BACKGROUND: Environmental temperatures in the fresh food industry vary from 0°C to 10°C, and go below -20°C for the frozen food industry, representing risk for the health and safety of workers involved. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to evaluate the cold thermal stress risks for workers working in a frozen food industry. METHODS: A total of 27 acclimatized workers (13 male and 14 female) participated in a study which was conducted during 11 working days. The thermal sensation questionnaire and the cold work health questionnaire (CWHQ) were applied to all participants. Additionally, 4 workers were chosen to be fully monitored with a thermometer telemetry capsule for measuring the intra-abdominal temperature and 8 skin temperature sensors. RESULTS: The lowest recorded hand temperature was 14.09°C, lowest forehead 18.55°C, mean skin temperature had variations of 1.10 to 3.20°C along the working period. Highest and most frequent fluctuations were found in the hand and forehead skin temperatures, small changes were found in mean skin temperature. CONCLUSIONS: Answers to the CWHQ increase concern on clinical forms of “a frigore”, and in two cases the mean body temperature decreased below 35.0°C, which is defined in the current literature as a mild form of hypothermia.
