Summary Chromium(III) (Cr3+)-hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) gels have been applied extensively as blocking agents for sweep efficiency improvement. Previous studies focused on delaying the gelation time and ignored the diffusion of the crosslinkers during the transportation process. The gelation time of Cr3+-HPAM was too long to be controlled. This study systematically describes a novel approach of using thermoresponsive nanocapsules to precisely control the release of Cr3+. The nanocapsules are successfully prepared by a controlled nanoprecipitation of hydrophobic polymers [poly (methyl methacrylate)] (PMMA) and Pluronic® P-123 onto stable aqueous Cr3+ solution nanodroplets. The stable aqueous nanodroplets are obtained by double inverse miniemulsions with oil-soluble surfactant Span® 80. The nanoprecipitation occurs when heating the mixture at 50℃, which leads to the evaporation of solvent and precipitation of the PMMA into the interface of the aqueous droplets to form the shells. Pluronic P-123 is introduced to stabilize the double miniemulsion and enhance the precipitation efficiency of the shell polymer during the fabrication process. The fabricated nanocapsules show a size range from 211.9 to 297.2 nm depending on the feed contents of the Cr3+. The thermoresponsive function of Pluronic P-123 is studied and applied as a temperature-trigger on the shell. Gelation results show that the thermoresponsivity of Pluronic P-123 dominates the release rate rather than the diffusion rate through PMMA, which could be used to shorten the gelation interval time.

Objective. This study evaluated the impact of nursing intervention based on the Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) on pediatric patients. Methods. A retrospective analysis was performed on 120 children admitted to the pediatric respiratory unit of Anhui Children’s Hospital, and they were randomly and equally assigned to the observation group (PEWS-based nursing intervention) and the control group (usual care). The following parameters were compared: incidence of unplanned admissions to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), disease progression, average hospitalization days, hospital costs, time required for nursing assessment and management, nursing record error rate, and medical satisfaction. Results. The incidence of unplanned admissions to PICU and disease exacerbations, mean hospital days and hospital costs were significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group ( P < 0.05 ). Compared with the control group, the observation group had lower nursing care time, time to assess the disease, and an error rate in writing the entire nursing record. In addition, the accuracy rate of nurse assessment and the satisfaction rate of doctors and nurses in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group ( P < 0.05 ). Conclusion. The PEWS-based nursing intervention not only reduced the unplanned admission rate, the incidence of disease worsening, and the average number of hospital days and hospital costs in the PICU but also accelerated the recovery process of pediatric patients in the respiratory unit. Meanwhile, PEWS-based nursing interventions can effectively improve nursing efficiency and medical care satisfaction.

Droplet-based microfluidic technology can be utilized as a microreactor to prepare novel functional monodisperse microcapsules. In this study, a droplet-based microfluidic chip with surface modification, which allowed the one-step preparation of double emulsion microcapsules. An O/W/O double emulsion using polyethylene (glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) solution as the intermediate water phase was prepared by regulating the hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of the chip surface, with PEGDA microcapsules prepared using UV polymerization. And then anti-tumor drug paclitaxel and neurotoxin 6-OHDA were encapsulated in microcapsules for drug and toxicology evaluation, respectively. Compared to controls, drug-loaded microcapsules caused a significant increase in the death rate of PC12 cells. This indicates that the obtained drug-loaded microcapsules could be used in drug evaluation and potentially in drug screening and delivery.

Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a rapid and nondestructive technique that is capable of detecting and identifying chemical or biological compounds. Sensitive SERS quantification is vital for practical applications, particularly for portable detection of biomolecules such as amino acids and nucleotides. However, few approaches can achieve sensitive and quantitative Raman detection of these most fundamental components in biology. Herein, a noble-metal-free single-atom site on a chip strategy was applied to modify single tungsten atom oxide on a lead halide perovskite, which provides sensitive SERS quantification for various analytes, including rhodamine, tyrosine and cytosine. Background Reducing abdominal fat (AF) accumulation and increasing the level of intramuscular fat (IMF) simultaneously is a major breeding goal in poultry industry. Results To explore the different molecular mechanisms between AF and IMF, gene expression profiles in the breast muscle (BM) and AF among three chicken breeds were analyzed. A total of 4737 shared DEGs were identified between BM and AF, of which 2602 DEGs were upregulated and 2135 DEGs were downregulated in the BM groups compared with that in AF groups. DEGs involved in glycerophospholipid metabolism and glycerolipid metabolism were potential regulators resulting in the difference of lipid metabolite accumulation in IMF and AF. PPAR signaling pathway was the most important pathway involved in tissue-specific lipid deposition. Correlation analysis showed that most representative DEGs enriched in PPAR signaling pathway, such as FABP5, PPARG, ACOX1, GK2, were negatively correlated with PUFA-enriched glycerophospholipid molecules. Most DEGs related to glycerophospholipid metabolism, such as GPD2, GPD1, PEMT, CRLS1 and GBGT1, were positively correlated with glycerophospholipid molecules, especially DHA- and arachidonic acid (ARA)- containing glycerophospholipid molecules. Conclusion This study elucidated the molecular mechanism of tissue-specific lipid deposition and poultry meat quality.

Photodetectors with long detection distances and fast response are important media in constructing a non-contact human–machine interface for the Masterly Internet of Things (MIT). All-inorganic perovskites have excellent optoelectronic performance with high moisture and oxygen resistance, making them one of the promising candidates for high-performance photodetectors, but a simple, low-cost and reliable fabrication technology is urgently needed. Here, a dual-function laser etching method is developed to complete both the lyophilic split-ring structure and electrode patterning. This novel split-ring structure can capture the perovskite precursor droplet efficiently and achieve the uniform and compact deposition of CsPbBr3 films. Furthermore, our devices based on laterally conducting split-ring structured photodetectors possess outstanding performance, including the maximum responsivity of 1.44 × 105 mA W−1, a response time of 150 μs in 1.5 kHz and one-unit area –2 mm2. Based on these split-ring photodetector arrays, we realized three-dimensional gesture detection with up to 100 mm distance detection and up to 600 mm s−1 speed detection, for low-cost, integrative, and non-contact human–machine interfaces. Finally, we applied this MIT to wearable and flexible digital gesture recognition watch panel, safe and comfortable central controller integrated on the car screen, and remote control of the robot, demonstrating the broad potential applications.

Background: Detection of genomic structural variants (SVs) in breast cancer was of great clinical interest. Numerous methods were developed to call SVs from third-generation sequencing data, but the results and accuracy of various calling methods differ greatly. Thus, assessing the accuracy of these calling methods became important and challenging especially in the absence of gold standards. This study aimed to compare the performance of two SVs calling methods, denoted by T1 and T2 respectively, without gold standards of SVs. Methods: A total of 155,566 structural variants detected by the two calling methods with third-generation sequencing were collected based on 20 breast cancer patients from Peking University People's Hospital. Utilizing a Bayesian approach that could take account of the dependency between calling results, we assessed the accuracy of T1 and T2 in detecting insertion, deletion, duplication, inversion, translocation, and copy number variant, respectively, in terms of sensitivity and specificity. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate the robustness of the comparison results. Results: The estimated sensitivity and specificity of T2 were higher than that of T1 in detecting different SVs. The estimated sensitivity of T2 in detecting insertion, deletion, and duplication were 0.9438, 0.9440, and 0.9441, respectively, while the sensitivity of T1 were 0.8750, 0.8743, and 0.8843, respectively. Sensitivity analysis showed that the prior information is critical but the comparison results were robust in a certain range. Conclusions: Results showed that T2 significantly outperforms T1 in a general comparison. The proposed model and obtained results are helpful to evaluate and select better SVs calling methods in the absence of gold standards, which in turn will be conducive to identifying new SVs associated with breast cancer or other diseases.

With the development of power systems, the application of energy storage (ES) technology has become widespread. The bi-directional power regulation capability and fast response rate of ES system can effectively assist the cooperative operation of the grid and load. In this paper, a two-stage optimization model for ES locating and sizing considering economic benefits and charging and discharging strategies is established. The optimization objectives are improving the power quality of distribution network and maximizing the revenue of energy storage, respectively. The effectiveness of the above model is verified in a 33-node distribution network. The results show that a reasonable ES locating and sizing plan can improve the utilization rate of ES and the operation optimization of distribution network.

Breast cancer (BC) is associated with hereditary components, and some deleterious germline variants have been regarded as effective therapeutic targets. We conducted a clinic-based, observational study to better understand the distribution of deleterious germline variants and assess any clinicopathological predictors related to the variants among Chinese BC patients using a 32 cancer-related genes next-generation sequencing panel. Between November 2020 and February 2022, a total of 700 BC patients were recruited, and 13.1% (92/700) of them carried deleterious germline variants in 15 cancer-related genes, including 37 (37/700, 5.3%) in BRCA2, 29 (29/700, 4.1%) in BRCA1, 8 (8/700, 1.1%) in PALB2, 4 (4/700, 0.6%) in NBN, 3 (3/700, 0.4%) in MRE11A, 3 (3/700, 0.4%) in TP53 and 12 (12/700, 1.7%) in other genes. There were 28 novel variants detected: 5 in BRCA1, 14 in BRCA2, and 9 in non-BRCA1/2 genes. The variants in panel genes, HRR (homologous recombination repair)-related genes, and BRCA1/2 were significantly associated with the following clinicopathological factors: age at the initial diagnosis of BC, family history of any cancer, molecular subtype, Ki-67 index, and hereditary risk. In conclusion, we further expanded the spectrum of germline deleterious variants in Chinese BC patients, and the clinicopathological predictors of variants were identified to facilitate clinical genetic testing and counseling for appropriate individuals.

This letter presents a new class of High-overtone Bulk Acoustic Resonators (HBARs) with only top electrodes but excellent performance using lithium niobate (LN) thin films on conductive silicon carbide (SiC). The 4-inch single-crystalline lithium niobate thin film on conductive SiC (LNCSiC) substrate was prepared by ion-cutting process. Since the conductive SiC serves as both the resonant cavity and the floating electrode, the HBARs based on LNCSiC with only top electrodes were designed and fabricated. The devices show a wide frequency response span exceeding 2.0 GHz, a frequency spacing of 10 MHz, an excellent f $\cdot $ Q $_{\textit {LAKIN}}$ product of ${9.6}\times {10} ^{{13}}$ Hz ( f $\cdot $ Bode-Q of ${1.1}\times {10} ^{{14}}$ Hz), and a low temperature coefficient of frequency (TCF) of −18.9 ppm/°C. The frequency response shift of the proposed HBAR can be achieved by just adjusting the in-plane orientation of the top electrodes. Additionally, a multi-band filter was numerically synthesized based on the proposed HBARs, showing a spectral spacing of 10 MHz and a passband span of more than 2.0 GHz. Upon further optimizations, the proposed HBARs with a wide frequency response, a high- f $\cdot $ Q , and a low-TCF will be very promising for radio-frequency applications.

An online identification method that can simultaneously estimate the unknown system parameter and the unknown time-delay is proposed. Firstly, with the help of Lagrange mean value theorem, the system with time-delay can be transformed into two terms that can be identified by modified least-square algorithm and one term that represents an approximate error. Then, a modified least-square algorithm is introduced to estimate all the unknown parameters in case of external disturbances. Additionally, an restrain term are added in the covariance matrix to enhance the robustness to deal with the approximate error which is related to the estimated error of system parameter and time-delay. Also, the boundedness of the estimation error is guaranteed via Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, the effectivity of the proposed method is verified by simulations results.

Background Intestinal obstruction can result in inflammatory injury to distant organs, especially the lungs. Stellate ganglion block (SGB) provides sympathetic nervous homeostasis and inhibits the systemic inflammatory response. This study aimed to investigate whether SGB can alleviate acute lung injury by inhibiting phospholipase A2 expression in rats. Methods Thirty healthy male Sprague–Dawley rats were divided into three groups: C group (sham-operated); CLP group (cecal ligation and puncture with intestinal obstruction), and cervical sympathetic trunk transection (CSTT) group (transection of the cervical sympathetic trunk following CLP).Arterial blood samples were obtained to determine the ratio of partial arterial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) to fraction of oxygen in inspired air (FiO2). Venous blood samples were used to evaluate the serum concentrations of chemokines, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-10 using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Following euthanasia, the lungs were isolated to estimate the wet/dry lung weight (W/D) ratio, evaluate the pathological damage to lung tissues on microscopy, and determine secretory-type phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) expression using western blotting. Results Rats in the CLP group showed increased fatigue, decreased activity levels, and coarse, gray hair. The levels of chemokines, TNF-α, and IL-6 in the CLP and CSTT groups were higher than those in the C group. However, the levels were lower in the CSTT group than those in the CLP group. IL-10 levels in the CLP group were higher and lower than those in the C and CSTT groups, respectively. W/D ratios and PaO2/FiO2 in the CLP and CSTT groups were higher than those in the C group, whereas these ratios in the CSTT group were lower than those in the CLP group. No lung injury was noted in group C, and the lung injury scores were lower in the CSTT group than those in the CLP group. sPLA2 expression levels in the CLP group were higher than those in the C group, whereas these levels in the CSTT group were lower than those in the CLP group. Conclusions sPLA2 overexpression in the lungs may be a pathogenic factor in acute lung injury. CSTT alleviated acute lung injury by inhibiting sPLA2 expression.

BackgroundHER2-low-positive breast cancers are reported to have distinct clinical and molecular features from HER2-zero tumors in ER-positive breast cancer. However, the association between HER2-status with response to endocrine therapy is largely unknown. MethodsIn this study, we conducted a retrospective analysis to compare the response of ER-positive breast cancer to neoadjuvant endocrine therapy (NET), neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) and survival according to HER2-status.ResultsPathological complete response (pCR) in primary tumor (ypT0/isNx) is significantly lower in HER2-low-positive breast cancer than in HER2-zero tumors for NET cohort (18 out of 233 [7.7%] vs 9 out of 45 [20%]) but not for NCT cohort (28 out of 204 [13.3%] vs 5 out of 36 [13.9%]). HER2-zero tumors consistently show higher ypT0/isNx pCR ratio than HER2-low-positive breast cancer in all endocrine therapy duration groups including 3-10months, 11-20months and 21-30months groups. Multi-variable logistic regression analyses showed that HER2-low-positive expression is a risk factor for poor response to NET. In patients receiving NET, HER2-low-positve breast tumors has better disease-free survival compared with HER2-zero while no significance difference was detected with overall survival. ConclusionsOur results demonstrated that HER2-low-positive breast tumors was a distinct subtype in ER-positive breast cancers and was associated with endocrine therapy resistance.

In momentum space, the nodal loop is regarded as a ring-shaped band degeneracy and is classified into type-I and type-II configurations depending on the positive/negative dispersions of the degenerating bands. Here, we experimentally observe a new class of nodal loop in the photonic band structure, employing an artificially designed bilayer metasurface. Such degeneracy, termed type-III nodal loop, is formed by the crossing between a resonant flat band and a positively dispersive band and is protected by mirror symmetry Mz, which manifests in the metasurface’s bilayer architecture. Furthermore, the sequential topological transitions of band degeneracy from the nodal loop via Dirac point to gapped phase are demonstrated at the metasurfaces. Such transitions are enabled by the bilayer design and end with a pair of edge states on the domain wall of gapped systems. Our work reveals that properly engineered bilayer metasurfaces offer rich physics and vast flexibility in two-dimensional topological photonic research through assembling and tunning more symmetries and degrees of freedom along the stacking direction.

For course control of ships with unknown control coefficient and model parameters, an indirect adaptive robust controller, in which the parameter estimation law and the control law are designed separately, is proposed. This design method can achieve not only excellent course control performance but also accurate parameter estimates for secondary purposes such as assisting in ship maneuvering decision. Firstly, a Nussbaum function is combined with the adaptive dynamic surface control method to design a strong robust controller which can ensure the stability of the closed-loop ship course control system in spite of parameter uncertainties, unknown control coefficient and disturbances. Secondly, the nonlinear model for ship steering is converted into linear form by using the X-swapping technique. And a modified least-squares identification algorithm is then proposed to estimate the unknown model parameters. The global uniform ultimate boundedness of all signals of the resulting closed-loop system is guaranteed via Lyapunov stability theory. Lastly, simulation results are executed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

Secondary pores are the main reservoir space and transportation channel of oil and gas in reef limestone reservoir. At present, the main method of calculating secondary porosity is restricted by the morphological characteristics of porosity spectrum, regional artificial influence, and accuracy of calculation. We present a new method for calculating secondary porosity of reef limestone reservoir by the nuclear magnetic resonance T 2 spectrum which is calibrated by casting thin section. We begin with analyzing and determining the high correlation between the surface porosity of casting thin section and the total porosity. The objective is confirming the feasibility of the method of calculating secondary porosity by using thin-section information calibrate. Then, we use the surface porosity of thin section as the calibrating data and find the T 2 relaxation time corresponding to the best correlation between the secondary porosity and the secondary surface porosity of casting thin section, that is, the T 2 cutoff value of secondary porosity, through the Monte Carlo method. Finally, we calculate the secondary porosity by using the functional relationship between the secondary surface porosity and the surface porosity. The statistical analysis shows that the method of calculating secondary porosity effectively improves the calculation accuracy of secondary porosity. The secondary porosity calculation results have a high correlation with the reservoir productivity.

To solve the control problem of nonstrict feedback nonlinear systems, a backstepping technique based controller design method is developed by integrating a robust control law with the excellent parameter identification algorithm of indirect adaptive framework. Each of unknown system functions that contain whole states is approximated by adding together a bounded time-varying parameter and a fuzzy approximator related to the current step and previous states only in the backstepping design procedure, which solves the algebraic loop problem existing in nonstrict feedback systems. Then the command filter is combined with the adaptive backstepping to construct the robust control law by which the differentiation operation of the virtual control signal can be avoided. Subsequently the swapping scheme is used to convert the studied system into a linear time-varying form. Both the weight vector of the fuzzy logic system and the bounded time-varying parameter are estimated by a least-squares identification algorithm under relaxed excitation conditions, so that the accurate value of system functions can be obtained. All signals in the closed-loop system are proved to be bounded. A simulation example is put forward to verify effectiveness of the presented method.

Homologous recombination deficiency which is currently measured by the homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) score including score of telomeric allelic imbalance (TAI), large-scale transition (LST), and loss of heterozygosity (LOH) is highly related with sensitivity to platinum-containing drug and PARP inhibitors. DNA helicases are essential components for the homologous recombination repair process in which DNA helicases unwind double-strand DNA utilizing ATP hydrolysis. In our study, the correlation between the expression of DNA helicase genes and HRD score in breast cancer was analyzed. The overexpression in half of the DNA helicase genes was found to be highly correlated with a high HRD score both in BRCA-mutated and BRCA wild-type breast cancer. Moreover, HRD score can be predicted by a linear function contributed by five DNA helicase genes. In conclusion, our study revealed a close relation between the overexpression of certain DNA helicase genes and the deficiency of homologous recombination repair in breast cancer.

Background: Structural variations (SVs) are common genetic alterations in the human genome that could cause different phenotypes and various diseases including cancer. However, the detection of structural variations using the second-generation sequencing was limited by its short read-length which in turn restrained our understanding of structural variations. Methods: In this study, we developed a 28-gene panel for long-read sequencing and employed it to both Oxford Nanopore Technologies and Pacific Biosciences platforms. We analyzed structural variations in the 28 breast cancer-related genes through long-read genomic and transcriptomic sequencing of tumor, para-tumor and blood samples in 19 breast cancer patients. Results: Our results showed that some somatic SVs were recurring among the selected genes, though the majority of them occurred in the non-exonic region. We found evidence supporting the existence of hotspot regions for SVs, which extended our previous understanding that they exist only for single nucleotide variations. Conclusions: In conclusion, we employed long-read genomic and transcriptomic sequencing in identifying SVs from breast cancer patients and proved that this approach holds great potential in clinical application.

Thermochromic glass possesses great potential for reducing the energy demand and providing indoor comfort in buildings. Suitable atomization temperature change points have a great influence on the application of thermochromic glass. Based on energy consumption simulations and theoretical calculations by introducing solar radiation in a transparent envelope, this paper investigates the atomization temperature change point of thermochromic glass in hot summer and cold winter zones in Chongqing, showing that the suitable temperature change point of the thermochromic glass is 39°C with air conditioning and 42.9°C without air conditioning. Furthermore, the results of simulations and theoretical calculations are applied to a test model, revealing that thermochromic glass with the temperature change point of 42.9°C compared with Low-E glass can reduce the temperature of a sunlight room by up to 5°C in the summer and displays a certain thermal insulation effect in winter.

Background Sex differences in depression have been well recognized. However, sex differences in suicidal ideation (SI) in adolescents have rarely been systematically studied. This large-scale sample explored the sex differences in the prevalence and related risk factors of SI in adolescent patients with depression. Methods 1635 patients with depression were recruited. Demographic and clinical characteristics were collected. Suicidal ideation was assessed by an interview. Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List (ASLEC) were used to evaluate depression and stressful life events. Results The prevalence of suicidal ideation in female patients (383/887, 43.18%) was significant higher than in male patients (242/748, 32.35%). There were sex differences in CDI, ASLEC, and all subscales of ASLEC in patients with and without SI. Correlation analysis showed that family depression history and less sleeping time were significantly associated with suicidal ideation in female patients, while the severity of depression and stressful life events were associated in both genders. Further logistic regression analysis indicated that the severity of depression and relationship problems were independent risk factors of suicidal ideation in both sexes; family depression and inadequate sleeping time were significantly associated with suicidal ideation in female patients. Conclusions Our findings show that there are significant sex differences in the risk and clinical correlations of suicidal ideation in adolescent depression patients. Suicidal ideation is more frequent in female patients and is associated with multiple factors in both genders.

In order to obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients that can save cost and meet the accuracy requirements, a new hydrodynamic test platform based on a 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) parallel mechanism is proposed in this paper. The test platform can drive the ship to move in six degrees of freedom. By using this experimental platform, the corresponding hydrodynamic coefficients can be measured. Firstly, the structure of the new device is introduced. The working principle of the model is deduced based on the mathematical model. Then the hydrodynamic coefficients of a test ship model of a KELC tank ship with a scale of 1:150 are measured and 8 typical hydrodynamic coefficients are obtained. Finally, the measured data are compared with the value of a real ship. The deviation is less than 10% which meets the technical requirements of the practical project. The efficiency of measuring the hydrodynamic coefficients of physical models of ships and offshore structures is improved by the device. The method of measuring the hydrodynamic coefficients by using the proposed platform provides a certain reference for predicting the hydrodynamic performance of ships and offshore structures.

A semiactive seat suspension control method is proposed in this study and applied to attenuate the vibration of the commercial truck seat for enhancing its ride comfort. The semiactive seat suspension system with a magnetorheological damper behaves with undesirable nonlinear properties. The proposed controller is a typical nonlinear controller, which takes the ideal sky-hook controller as the reference model and forces the tracking error vector. The controller has achieved great performance of attenuating vibration and is robust to parameter uncertainties and external disturbances. The relaxation oscillation phenomenon and convergence were also analyzed by the contribution of the phase portrait. As the phase portrait depicted, the sky-hook controller, a weakly nonlinear system, could be approximated by the equivalent linear approximate model. However, the proposed controller, the sky-hook sliding mode controller, is a strongly nonlinear system, which could not be linearized by the regular perturbation theory, and the criterion is given by the phase portrait. The experiment results showed good agreement with the simulation results, and some other matters encountered were also analyzed in the process of application.
